lin manuel miranda as hermes is incredible actually. i think it was valid some people were unsure about his casting at first, since he's such a recognizable (and heavily memed) celebrity, but that man can act. his delivery, the intensity behind his eyes... he was immersed and in character every single moment he was on screen. imo he was really great and believable as hermes, and i really enjoyed his performance

showing us from the start- from the very fucking beginning- that hermes KNOWS that he’s a shit father, KNOWS that he fucked up with luke, KNOWS that none of it is fair- is goddamn cruel, and the writers fucking know it.
because here’s the thing, right? hermes knows all of this shit, acknowledges that it isn’t fair, even says that the other gods know it isn’t fair- and yet they all dismiss it because that’s parenting. they know they’ve royally screwed the system, oh yes, but that’s just life, you know? what can you do? they’re all-powerful beings- but feelings and mortals are hard, bro, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t make them see things the way you see them. hermes made a mistake, a HUGE one, and when confronted, he offers nothing but excuses. because that’s what the gods are. immortal, unbreakable beings, who, in their moment of failure, ignore it.
that’s not a casual character flaw, that’s rick waving a red flag under our noses and calling it a mild foretelling.
and you know what the real kicker is?
hermes told percy and annabeth this because he thought they were going to forget. he couldn’t even own up to his own actions under anything but false pretenses.
the gods, people.

Three reasons not to use AI to write spells
Large language models generate text based on probability. This means that whatever spell you try to generate would be extremely similar, if not identical, to the first results that would come up if you searched DuckDuckGo.
The creators of large language models are unlikely to care about enough about cultural appropriation and environmental harm to ensure that all of the spell components are ethical on these matters.
Generative AI uses an absurd amount of resources to operate and contribute to pollution and water shortages. This might not be the case forever, but it's how things are right now. And there is simply no reason to have an LMM write a spell for you when you could just search DuckDuckGo.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is in my fucking walls.
I could be watching a show about a greedy duck and "oh what is this familiarly awkward high voice?" IT'S LIN FUCKING MANUEL.
I'm watching this super cool cop show and "oh poor Amy her brother sounds slightly pretentious" DAVID SANTIAGO IS LIN-MANUEL FUCKING MIRANDA.
This well beloved book of a lot of people's childhood based off Greek mythology is getting turned into a show "lemme check the cast of the gods in this show, I kinda like Hermes he seems like a fun god-" IT'S LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA BITCH.

the pjo tags are heavenly right now. either people are finally admitting lin manuel miranda is a good actor despite their personal dislike for him (about damn time), or they're whining mad that he's on their screen and can't escape him (cope)

Hamilton had way more slant rhymes and they were quite bad.

Reblog for a bigger sample size - for bonus points tag your favorite musical(s) that didn't win this decade but maybe should have!
Polls for other decades
---
A second attempt at this poll since in my first one I accidentally skipped Gentleman's Guide and made the duration 1 day when the others were 1 week. So for science we're trying this one again.
Also to clarify since I've gotten some shade about my choices on these polls: these polls are specifically about winners of the Tony Award for Best Original Musical broken down by decade, not some arbitrary shows I'm picking. Anyway, I have one for each decade so go vote in all of them! :)
