YIPPEE I GET TO TALK ABOUT NICK!!!

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Seeing pictures with Amber’s mother in them. I haven’t mentioned this yet but Amber’s mother actually left them both one night 2 years before the events of The Labyrinth™️ (for seemingly no reason.) He has any pictures of her in the house laying face down, or he just tears her out completely. Even photos of Amber as a baby he still can’t quite look at, because now the memories behind them have become…bitter. He constantly thinks about what went wrong, what he did wrong, what caused all of it. He spirals and in order to stop he distracts himself with his interests, and throws himself into fiction and fantasy- and inadvertently causes a divide between him and his daughter, who needed his support the most. 

Also cooking. He has gathered a lot of recipes from his family over the years. He finds peace in cooking, and the memories of helping his mom in the kitchen create a very safe environment for him. Plus, when he makes his mother’s recipes he can sort of relive the good memories of his childhood.

H) What trait do you admire most?

Other than being able to fuck Jareth, something that I think makes the dynamic work is how…grounded Nick is. He knows what he wants, and he knows his boundaries, and will not settle for anything less. Jareth’s (let’s face it) seduction of Nick in the Labyrinth doesn’t work. Nick rejects him at first, which is something I could never do. He’s kind enough to Jareth to know that he could be better, that he could be better- but he has the fortitude to say no, even if it means sacrificing his dreams.

Even during their relationship, Nick doesn’t live in the castle. He stays in the human world with Amber until she moves out for college, because he knows how much she needs him now- and how important it is to be someone she can depend on and look to for help.

backstory:

grew up with undiagnosed ADHD and dyscalculia; though much of her childhood was otherwise pleasant, she has very vivid memories of her overachieving parents getting frustrated with her for struggling at school. she was finally diagnosed when she was 11

over time her parents have gotten better. they’re not perfect but she isn’t afraid of them or of failing around them anymore, and she willingly spends time with them any chance she gets

going to school to study theatre; works at the bookstore part-time because it gives her a sense of accomplishment. she befriended jareth when he started working there, too

has grown up reading comics, manga, and graphic novels because they were easier for her to read than prose fiction; draws her own comics and characters in her spare time, self-taught, has gotten pretty decent at it but still feels like she has a long way to go

only recently came out as aromantic to her family and had to explain what that meant; they’re a little confused, but they’ve got the spirit!

has been into theatre since middle school, when she tried it out to see how it would go and because she wanted to make friends. though they were treated like losers by much of the student body, el always looked up to the drama club and wanted to be just like them. theatre and art have been important coping mechanisms for her for a long time
