• #lifeasmrsyeocooksorganization • Once upon a time, I used to have a rather big service yard, considering the size only gets smaller as they plan the layout for new HDBs (I wonder why, they think people don’t wash clothes anymore is it?). One day, my 9 years old washing machine I brought over from the previous house decided it had enough of my abuse. So Mr and Mrs Yeo went shopping for a new washer and decided to get a bigger and better washer hoping we can cut down the frequency of washing per week and wash everything at one go (yay!). Turned out, washer and dryer of a different brand cannot be stacked together (what?? 😱). Dryer has to be drilled down to the washer (as of my older ones of the same brand due to safety reasons). No one (including the company from my washer and my dryer) is willing to do stacking up service for me because warranty will be voided if so, well unless both machines are of the same brand and to be done by their own servicemen (you get the idea). In the end, we had to forgo stacking up and place the washer and the dryer opposite each other (there’s no space for them to be next to each other) and so I ended up with this mess on one side and I want to cry when I see the other side 😭 The service yard looks brighter now because more light could shine through but there’s no way 2 people can be in the service yard at the same time now. Courtney: The struggle of unfucking.

So as you read previously, I've been having some trouble. Making a routine has been next to impossible; but that's not the point. The point is that I'm calling shenanigans on my depression and unfucking something today.

The hard part was deciding what to unfuck. On top of every thing else, I'm generally lazy and easily distracted. However, something's better than nothing so I settled on the laundry area. My laundry area is very small so it's very easily cluttered. There are tons of left over fabric softeners, dryer sheets, and detergent (which aren't low enough to justify throwing away.) There is also a mirror, pieces of a metal bed frame, a box I haven't unpacked and an overflow dirty laundry.

With the heaviest of sighs, I set to work on my unfucking task of the day.

First, I folded the towel in the dryer. This was easy enough; fold the towel, put it in the closest that's less than two feet away and we're done. I had so much fun doing that, I decided to start a load of laundry involving one of the two quilts in the floor. I then decided that I wasn't having enough fun and sorted through the unpacked box that we discussed earlier.I tossed the things I didn't need, put away the things that I did need and attempted to find a place to put the stray box or something to put in it.

I then began clearing off the shelf above the washer and dryer so that it could be dusted. After dusting, I place the bottles of detergents, stain removers, bleaches and fabric softener on said shelf. After that I proceeded to dust off the mirror (that will remain stationary for the time being) and get the rest of the clothes up and out of the way in the area.

In the end, I didn't use a timer. Once I got going the unfucking provided a task and a much needed distraction. Just because I didn't use timers, doesn't mean that I didn't obey the rules. Once i started feeling fatigued (which was usually after about 15 or 20 minutes anyway) I took a rest for as long as I needed to. I made one big task into a lot of smaller tasks which made it much easier to visualize a goal and get it done. I now have a functional laundry area and am one step closer to the bigger goal of unblocking the back door.

P.S. I also cleaned the tops of my very dirty washer and dryer with a magic eraser. I believe that their primary ingredient is voodoo and witchcraft but will also be purchasing more soon.
