Prompt #2403
“Remember that all-important favour you owe me?” [Supervillain] smiled, long and slow. “I’m here to collect.”
- Prompt courtesy of @gingerly-writing
31 hours later...
The Hero slipped from the shadows and the Supervillain let out a startled laugh.
The Hero narrowed their eyes, tugged uncomfortably at the ski mask over their face. They had traded their typical garish costume for an alarmingly accurate version of a henchman's uniform, all black Kevlar and flat military style boots.
"You didn't think I was going to do... whatever this is as me, did you?" they said breezily. But their body language was tense, braced for attack from any angle.
"That's a good look on you," the Supervillain purred, eyeing their rival head to toe. "I have to say I like you in my colors."
With that, the Supervillain opened the passenger-side door of their town car. The Hero looked taken aback. But they braced themselves and ducked under the Supervillain's arm to slide into the leather seat. Supervillain shut the door firmly on them and took the driver's seat. The Hero folded their hands and directed their gaze forward.
For a moment they both sat in silence.
"Your behavior suggests you think this is some kind of a trap," Supervillain said mildly.
The Hero shrugged, still not looking at them. "You'd be disappointed if I didn't suspect you of some nefarious purpose. Do you want to tell me now what it is we're doing tonight?"
The Supervillain tsked their tongue. "And ruin the surprise?"
The Hero crossed their arms and didn't respond. The Supervillain pressed the ignition and fired up Verdi's Requiem on the car's speaker system. They drove without a word between them for an hour.
When they pulled up in front of the long-abandoned nuclear power plant, the Hero tilted their head in interest. It was the first movement they'd made since getting into Supervillain's car.
"Doesn't seem like your type of place," the Hero said casually, inviting explanation without asking.
The Supervillain smirked. "A place of power is a place of power." They grabbed their go bag from the back seat and floated off, leaving the Hero to mutter under their breath and follow as best they could on foot over the barbed wire fence and through the rubble on the ground.
In the sunset light, the grey cement walls of the old plant glowed pink against the rusty stains dribbling down the walls. The side door was freshly broken down.
The Supervillain led Hero down through ankle deep green sludge to the long-empty core shaft. At the bottom, they could just see the ritual circle already set up. The Supervillain pulled the harness and long cable from their bag.
"Nuh uh." Hero was already backing up. "I'm not going down there."
"No you aren't," Supervillain agreed and started buckling themselves in. "I'm going. You hold this-" they tossed the cable over a rafter and handed the other end to the Hero- "and pull me up when I'm done. And then we're square. Favor repaid."
The Hero stared in outright disbelief. "That's it?" They looked back and forth from the Supervillain down to the ritual circle in near-panic. "What ritual is this?!"
Supervillain clicked their tongue again, doing one last check on their harness. "A simple re-powering. Relax, hero. If you feel like this isn't enough of a favor, you can always owe me another one."
And with that Supervillain stepped out into thin air. Behind them the Hero lunged for the other end of the cable - and the Supervillain fell into the tempest of a pure magical nexus.
2.5 Hours Later
The Supervillain slowly came back to themselves on a soft but far too cramped surface. Their car. The Hero had moved them into their car and they were dripping green sludge all over the lambskin seats. "Thanks a lot," they muttered fuzzily. "Gonna have to reup... reupholster..."
The Hero was standing over them in a flash, awkwardly crouching at the open car door. "What in the hell did you do!" they hissed, but their eyes through the mask were wide with worry, not anger. Typical Hero. "When you hit that thing you were screaming for a good ten minutes! And then you went limp - I thought you were dead!"
Supervillain reached out with their mind and felt a satisfying thrum of new power added to their own. "It's over," they said out loud. "And I have no more use for you." They reached out with their new power and the car roared to life. The Hero leapt backwards, but the Supervillain only tapped the in-car call button. "My people can take it from here," they said. "They're on their way. Your favor is repaid. I suggest you start walking now, if you want to get back to town before dawn."
The Hero was staring. "Wait. Hold on. One, I'm not leaving you alone after you almost died." Supervillain swung the car door shut. The Hero caught it and swung it back open. "Two, what do you mean that's the favor? Hauling your unconscious body out of a 20 foot hole? Any one of your people could've done that, instead waiting til now to call them..."
The Supervillain mustered up a tired smirk. "One: I assure you, I'm more than a match for anything and anyone now, with this place's old power added to mine. And two..." The Supervillain lurched up to their feet, sparks crackling in their hands. The Hero danced back, guard up. The Supervillain sneered. "Only someone like you would be stupid enough see me unconscious, undefended, and still consider yourself bound by some kind of honor to let me live."
The Hero's eyes were still wide behind their mask. Surprise and... what was that? Oh. Pity. The Supervillain could see the implications sinking in, and the Hero had the goddamn nerve to be standing there looking at Supervillain like they were the pathetic one. It made Supervillain want to blow something up.
"Go!" they screamed, and flung a fireball into the abandoned compound. Hero staggered from the concussive blast. "Consider that a preview for the next time we meet."
The Hero gave them another watery look. Then they turned their back and started walking.
It was a long 60 minutes of waiting alone in the smoldering ruins before Supervillain's real henchmen showed up to drive them home.

Time to upgrade your office chair? Find out how to recycle, reuse or donate it!
There are plenty of reasons to get rid of your old office chair. They seem to break easily, which can cause a safety hazard. Over time the fabric on the back, seat or arms can wear out, leaving you with an unprofessional looking seat. Using an unstable or poorly designed office chair (or one that is not the right height) can lead to a sore back or aching neck. Many people have switched to yoga balls or desks that allow them to stand, meaning they do not need their old office chair anymore. And even office furniture goes out of style over time, so your old office chair may need to go if your company upgrades its furnishings. When it comes time to dispose of an old office chair, what are your recycling options? Unfortunately, there aren’t many. Office chairs are made of many different materials that are hard to separate out when the chair reaches the end of its usable life. It is not a very cost-effective process, which is why not many places recycle office chairs. You can always take apart the chair yourself and recycle some of the components. Or, if your chair is in usable condition, you can find a person who would like it for their office at home or work.
HOW OFFICE CHAIRS GET RECYCLED
Office chairs are often made with plenty of metal, which is easy to recycle. It can go to a scrap metal dealer who will melt it down and turn it into other products. Most communities will have a metal bin at the recycling center. Everything else in a chair, including the wood, plastic, leather and fabric, is likely to go to a landfill or incinerator. The wood is typically treated or a composite like chipboard, which means it cannot be recycled. The rigid plastics that make up office chairs are one of the toughest categories to recycle, and there is no good way to find out exactly what type of plastic is in the chair. Markets for used waste textile material are few and far between – and again, there’s no good way to know if that textile material is cotton, polyester, a combination of both or something else entirely.
WHO RECYCLES OFFICE CHAIRS
There are a of couple companies out there that recycle office chairs. Wichita Hauling Junk & Moving in Wichita Bellevue Papillion Elkhorn NE, takes old office chairs for recycling (along with strollers, weight training equipment and other hard to recycle items). Price Moving Hauling Wichita will also pick up and recycle all kinds of office equipment (although many of the materials in office chairs end up going to waste-to-energy plants, which is not really recycling). Entities that recycle office chairs are very tough to find, however. If you really want to recycle your old office chair, you may have to disassemble it and recycle the metal yourself. Most of the other items, including the seat and the back, will need to go in the trash unless you can find a creative use for them (see below).
Sell or donate old office chairs
Assuming your office chair is still in good shape, you can probably find a way to reuse it. There are lots of companies that will purchase used office equipment (including office chairs). Nationwide Office Liquidators, Office Furniture WICHITA are a few examples. Some of them sell office furniture as well. Check them out the next time you are in the market for an office chair or any other type of office furniture. If you work for a large institution such as a university, find out if they have office equipment recycling and reuse program. Many of them will take people’s unwanted office furniture and get it to people who are looking for new items. Some thrift stores will take office chairs that are in good shape, but others find them difficult to sell and will turn them down. Check with your favorite local thrift store to find out their policy. You can also try to sell your office chair on your own through a website like Craigslist.
HOW TO REUSE OFFICE CHAIRS
Keep in mind that you may be able to reuse your old office chair in a creative way. If the only problem with the chair is that the covering is worn (or boring), consider reupholstering it using these instructions from About.com. Several people have turned old office chairs into cat toys or cat beds, like this creative person on Makezine.com. If the whole chair cannot be salvaged, see if you can repurpose some of the components around the house. A post on the blog Sew Many Ways details how the author removed the wheels from an old office chair and attached them to a shelf, giving her a nice rolling cart for storing tools and other supplies. The wheels can be spendy, so getting a set for free is a great deal.

Upholstery Oshawa near me
Seat covers in Oshawa Ontario are a significant if marginally neglected part of each vehicle. The part makes drivers and their travelers feel good, while carrying them to every one of the places they need to visit. Car Engines achieve the carrying part, yet they absolutely don't make you feel comfortable. Similar to the case with seats and couches, the material covering your seats wears out, which implies that in the long run you need to change it. Notwithstanding, in contrast to furniture, you can't push a vehicle seat to the side of a room; you need to fix it. Car seat upholstery comes in numerous varieties. Certain fabrics are about durability and simplicity of cleaning, while others are progressively about style and comfort. Picking the correct upholstery can have a gigantic effect as far as driving satisfaction is concerned. Along these lines, before you pick the next coat for your current seat or purchase another vehicle altogether, see what every fabric brings to the table. Here are a couple of well known types of upholstery to look over:
Tumblr media
Vinyl
At the point when we consider vinyl, we think "record players." While those don't actually sound agreeable, yet the material we know as vinyl can be shaped and utilized for some, various purposes, including vehicle seats. Vinyl is easy to clean, long-lasting and dependable (more than ten years). While leather tends to get softer throughout the years, vinyl gets harder, which can makes things somewhat less comfortable. Another normal analysis with vinyl is that comfort isn't ideal for hot days or cold climate. That being stated, quality vinyl might be a reasonable choice to leather since it feels fundamentally the same as.
Faux Vinyl
Made as impersonation of vinyl, faux vinyl shows qualities of leather also. It's anything but difficult to clean and has the shine that huge numbers of drivers love. Faux vinyl costs considerably less than a large number of the other options and the explanation is strength – or lack thereof. It doesn't take long for faux vinyl to break and wear away. Subsequently, you may need to reupholster your seats sooner than you'd like.
Leather
There is a ton to like about leather vehicle seats. As a matter of first importance, leather presents a refined look that displays toughness. The style can work for any vehicle and will outlast material fabric when appropriately kept up. Leather car seat covers Oshawa Ontario additionally has a flexible design that allows it to be soft or firm depending upon the vehicle owner's decision. Despite the fact that Leather costs more than cloth upholstery, the cleaning procedure isn't so hard. Essentially wipe the seat down with vehicle upholstery cleaner, vacuum and afterward wait for the leather to dry normally. Leather conditioner is a smart choice on the off chance that you need to ensure the fabric.
Faux Leather
Faux leather conveys all the attractive attributes of leather without the significant cost. The most widely recognized kind of Faux leather is made out of plastic, subsequently the term "pleather." It's adaptable in the manner in which that you can basically get any plan you need in light of the fact that no animals are ever hurt simultaneously. Faux leather is very much easy to clean and is extraordinarily tough. In any case, in compare to real leather, faux cowhide doesn't have a similar gloss. It doesn't smell or age a similar way either, which is a disgrace.
PVC
PVC (or Poly Vinyl Chloride) is a soft and adaptable vinyl material. As a result of its structure, it tends to be effectively manipulated into any shape, however it needs comfort thus. PVC is a bad decision in hot climate since the texture can without much of a stretch stick to bare skin. Accordingly, wearing shorts in a PVC-furbished car can be a terrible experience. By the by, the texture is anything but difficult to clean since plain old water and light cleanser are frequently enough. PVC is a modest choice for the individuals who need to reupholster their vehicle seat, yet need more money to bear the cost of higher-grade decisions.
Nylon
In the event that you need durable upholstery that is likewise accessible in numerous colors and patterns, at that point nylon is the decision for you. Capable for enduring UV beams and everyday wear and tear, nylon is outstandingly resistant to stains and is very much easy to clean. Nylon is likewise waterproof, which settles on it a prevalent decision for the individuals who have pets. That being stated, while reasonableness settles on nylon a decent decision, it lacks in comfort.
Each time you take your vehicle out for a round, it gradually aggregates dust, dirt, grime, and grease. A portion of these will appear in clear places like the wheel wells or along the windshield; however the harm can likewise be discovered crusted into the fabric of your vehicle seats. Car owners will in general give unquestionably more consideration to the motor, exterior, and paintwork than to the seats and leather trim. In all actuality keeping your vehicle's upholstery perfect and new is a key component to keeping up the vehicle's general beauty, yet in addition its usefulness, comfort, and cleanliness. All things considered, your vehicle won't look all around great if the stuffing starts to stand out of the seats, or if the fabric gets worn, frayed, and stained.
While it's constantly great idea to call in the experts for expert vehicle care and car upholstery services, you can pick to go for inexpensively advantageous approaches to carry out the responsibility all alone. Reupholstering your vehicle seats is certainly not a troublesome assignment once you arm yourself with the correct information and tools. You can find the expert near you if you want professional upholstery and car seat covers Oshawa Ontario services which can make you vehicle look good.

princess diaries 2 au where yurio is mia, otabek is devereaux, victor is clarisse, and yuuri is joe. mila is bff lily and phichit is unproblematic photographer prince
my jus d’orange asks, and i must deliver. s/o to @forovnix and discord peeps bc i lov u all. note: yurio is like, probably nearing 21 in this ficlet because who the hell is going to let a 16 year old onto the throne
“I can’t believe PM Feltsman thinks I have to get married in order to assume the throne,” Yuri groans as he lounges on the bed. Over on the settee, the King’s chief of security, Yuuri Katsuki, looks up from the paper.
“PM Feltsman may have ulterior motives,” he remarks.
“And who’s Lord Altin, anyway?” demands Yuri, rolling up the parliamentary meeting agenda and chucking it at the ceiling. It barely glances off the fresco ceiling and lands on his face. “Sounds like a bore. Why does he suddenly care about me becoming King?”
“Well, there’s the stuff about the succession,” says Katsuki. “You’re the ward of King Viktor, whereas Lord Altin is connected to the House of Nikiforov via marriage –”
“But Viktor named me his heir,” Yuri points out. “I shouldn’t have to jump through additional hoops just because I’m adopted into the Royal Family. Besides, I went to Georgetown. I’m probably more qualified to be king than Lord Altin.”
“I’m not questioning your qualifications, Your Highness,” Katsuki replies drily, though there’s a hint of a flustered blush in his cheeks. “I’m just restating what Parliament thinks about the situation. Petersburg law clearly states that adoptive heirs of the House of Nikiforov must marry prior to assuming the throne.”
“It’s a stupid law,” mutters Yuri. He tosses the agenda up again, and catches it this time. Katsuki turns the page in his paper, humming in agreement.
The door to the bedroom swings open, and His Majesty King Viktor Nikiforov of Petersburg strides in, his loyal poodle Makkachin hot at his heels. Yuri groans at the way his guardian’s eyes light up at the sight of his chief of security – honestly, he’s still here in this room; couldn’t they wait until he was out of it before they start sending goo-goo longing eyes at each other?
“Yurio!” exclaims Viktor. Yuri rolls his eyes.
“That’s not my name,” he grumbles.
Viktor ignores him, like he did the first several thousand times Yuri told him that. “They’ve finished remodelling your rooms. You can move in now!”
“Good,” says Yuri, injecting a little extra sullenness into his tone. “Finally I won’t have to listen to you sighing through the walls about Agent Porker here.” And he swiftly rises out of the bed, ignoring Viktor’s gasp of mild offense on his way out the door.
Whatever disappointment Yuri might have felt at seeing how stuffy his bedroom still looks after the remodelling – it’s like they only reupholstered the furniture to be leopard print and just didn’t bother touching anything else – is more than mitigated by just how cool his new closet is.
Each of the drawers and doors are remote-controlled, sliding out and back at the click of certain buttons. He’s got a lot of suits and tuxes and military-style outfits for official appearances and balls, but he also has lots of cooler clothing, too – leather jackets, jeans, vintage-looking punk band t-shirts –
“Surprise!” Mila shouts.
Yuri most definitely does not scream like a little girl in response to that. He claps a hand to his mouth and jumps back, glowering at his friend as she emerges from behind a rack of blazers.
“Don’t do that, Baba!” he hisses. “What if Agent Porker finds out?”
“Agent….” Mila cocks her head at him.
“Head of security.”
“Oh, Yuuri! He’s cool. He let me in.” A pause. “After an extensive background check and a heavy pat-down from a cute security guard named Yuuko, at least.”
“Of course you’d be hiding in my closet, with comments like that,” grumbles Yuri, but he steps forward and briefly clasps her in a one-armed hug. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to visit you! What’s going on?”
Yuri groans. “I’m supposed to get married.”
“You’d think it’d be a little counterintuitive to force someone adopted into the Royal Family to marry before they can be counted in the succession,” remarks Mila. “Was it usually to encourage them to marry someone in the family?”
They’re currently sitting in the palace’s private theatre. Katsuki is leaning over Viktor’s chair, talking quietly with the king. Yuri feels like gagging at the way Viktor keeps looking at his bodyguard like he hung the stars and moon.
He forces himself to concentrate on the various faces and names on the screen of potential candidates instead. “According to the law, it has to be someone of noble or royal birth,” he grumbles. “Especially if the adoptee was a commoner.” And he can’t help the cold shiver of resentment at that comment. He’d thought it’d be enough when King Viktor chose him as his ward and heir. But according to some antiquated law, apparently not. Apparently in the eyes of Petersburg’s Parliament, he had to ‘ensure the nobility of his line’ through marriage before becoming King.
If he ever finds out who created such a patently idiotic idea, he’ll hunt them down and kill them. It doesn’t matter if they’re already dead; he’ll resurrect them, and kill them again.
“What do you think of Duke Jean-Jacques Leroy?” wonders Mila.
Yuri looks up at the picture of a young man with a dark undercut and the most obnoxious grin on his face. “No,” he says.
“He does sound a little full of himself, even in a profile like this,” Mila agrees, changing the slide. “What about Duke Seung-gil Lee?”
Yuri squints. “He doesn’t seem friendly.”
“You’re hardly Miss Congeniality yourself,” Viktor remarks from behind them.
“Viktor,” chides Katsuki. Yuri rolls his eyes. The slide changes.
“How about Prince Christophe Giacometti?” wonders Mila.
Yuri’s eyes go wide. “Fuck, no,” he hisses. “He has habits.”
“And thank god he’s got a boyfriend willing to indulge him in said habits,” agrees Katsuki from the back row. Yuri grumbles and changes the slide.
“Too young,” says Viktor. Another change. “Too old.”
Another. “Arrested too many times,” says Katsuki.
Finally, they arrive at a picture of a young man with dark hair and skin, and the brightest smile as he holds a camera in his hands. “Phichit Chulanont, Prince of Thailand,” remarks Mila. “I hear he loves photography; he runs a very popular Instagram account.”
Yuri looks at the other parts of the dossier. Prince Chulanont sounds like he’s dependable and friendly, and might be fine with their very political alliance.
“Yeah,” he says, shrugging. “I guess he could work.”
Yuri gapes. Lord Altin – no, wait, ‘Just Otabek’ – waves at him from where he’s standing with Prime Minister Feltsman in the foyer.
And then everything happens all at once. Yuri would claim for years after that it had all been heat of the moment, accidental. PM Feltsman would claim that it had been a deliberate provoking.
But Yuri simply glides up to Lord Altin, fire in each step, each move of his body. “Lord Altin, hm,” he says, careful to keep his voice even. “I’ve heard a lot about you lately.”
“You have?” wonders Lord Altin. He flushes just a little. Yuri nods.
And then he stomps on the man’s feet and sweeps from the room in high dudgeon.

Las Vegas Hauling Junk & Moving in Las Vegas Bellevue Papillion Elkhorn NE, takes old office chairs for recycling (along with strollers, weight training equipment and other hard to recycle items). Price Moving Hauling Las Vegas will also pick up and recycle all kinds of office equipment (although many of the materials in office chairs end up going to waste-to-energy plants, which is not really recycling).
Nationwide Office Liquidators, Office Furniture LAS VEGAS are a few examples.

With the recent Demuro video, I thought I'd share my dad's 1981 Fiat Spider.
Photos first: http://ift.tt/2CcJ2X7
I rarely see any posts of Fiats here on /r/cars, so I thought I would share with you guys my father’s 1981 Fiat Spider 2000 Pininfarina 50th Anniversary Edition; the epitome of all known Fiat stereotypes, especially the infamous “Fix It Again Tony” phrase. My dad purchased this directly off a Fiat showroom floor in 1981 in Miami after cross shopping other typical 80s sports cars, including a Datsun 280zx. Before he even got it home, the car had issues; the top leaked and one of the power windows wasn’t working properly. Much to my grandfather’s dismay, he kept the car and thoroughly thrashed it for the next 10 some ought years until the birth of my sister. He took it on numerous trips down to Key West with my mother, whom he married just five years later (yes, the car has been in his life longer than 30+ years of marriage with my mom), a saltwater fish tank breaking in the backseat, and even cramming four grown adults into the car. Flash forward to 2010, my dad and I towed the car nearly 800 miles to Asheville, N.C., where we participated in the 2010 Fiat Freakout and drove a large portion of the Tail of the Dragon.
After my sister and I came around, the car wasn’t driven, or abused, as much as he would’ve liked, but nevertheless the car was garage kept throughout its entire life. I would say in the past 13 years or so, he began restoring it back to its original glory, which included sorting out some of the problems it carried over from the factory in Italy.
Now, the backstory out of the way, we can get to the good stuff. The car commemorates Pininfarina’s 50th anniversary of sales in America, which prompted Fiat to create 1,000 champagne gold cars worldwide, each with an assortment of features that distinguished them from the other thousands of spiders sold. Aside from the paint, the car came equipped with power windows, identifiable Pininfarina badging (visible near the door panel) with a number ranging from 1-1,000, a brown steering wheel and other minor features. As she sits, the car has over 168,000 miles, all put on by my father and even more shockingly, all on the original clutch which is cable driven. The car has been painted about three different times, one of which she was keyed the day after she got out of the booth. After installing a few performance upgrades, including headers, an Ansa exhaust, stiffer springs and an upgraded starter and alternator. The car has Wilwood four piston calipers in the front, which he installed after having little to no working breaks for roughly 10 years. After squaring away the performance issues, of which there were many (to this day she has a slight oil leak to which even our mechanic cannot locate the origin), he began working on restoring the interior/exterior.
He has had the iconic Cromodora wheels reshaped and restored to their original glory. The front and rear seats, as well as the door panels were recently reupholstered from leather he sourced from a wholesale shop in Austria. The top (not pictured) was just redone as well as the entire carpet. He is getting to the point where the car is complete enough where he can still take it out on the weekends and ride the hell out of it without worrying about being stranded on the side of the road as it used to do when he was dating my mom all those years ago. While the car used to fit the stereotype of “Fix It Again Tony,” she has gotten a bit more placid in her older age and doesn’t surprise my dad as much as she used to (knocks on wood). Is it fast? No, not really. But she has enough get up to put a smile on your face and handles like it’s on rails. I look forward to the day the car is bequeathed to me and I can continue to romp the hell out of her and scare people with her very Italian sounding horn. Feel free to ask any questions about her or her history.
P.S.: All photos taken by me with a Nikon D3400, either with a Tokina 11-16mm or Nikon 35mm prime. Post done in lightroom.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram I can’t tell you how happy I am for sharing Molly’s, of @mk_interiors_, new home. I’ve known Molly and her beautiful work at MK Interiors for some time now. In fact, we have been talking about featuring her newly-built home even before it was built, so you can imagine how much I waited to share this post with all of you on Home Bunch. Keep reading and you will see why it was worth the wait to tour Molly’s home! “Hi, I’m Molly Kay and here is a little bit about me and our home! My husband is a general contractor who builds custom homes, does additions, and remodeling. He is also a master woodworker. Having him build our current home has been a blessing for us as he has built homes for several others and we had always hoped to have him build for us in the near future. We designed our home together and one of the highlights of my life is getting to work with my husband on projects. We each own separate businesses and have our own clients but sometimes we are hired as a team and we love that! We have been married 20 years and have 3 children. We live in the beautiful rolling hills at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains in Northern Virginia 45 minutes west of Washington DC. We love our rural small town and love living on a one lane gravel road on 5 acres. We also love being able to be close to a big city and really having the best of both worlds! I am passionate about interior design and love making all things beautiful! I feel so blessed to of always been able to stay home with my children and run a successful business as an interior designer. I hope you enjoy this glimpse of our custom home! It was a definite labor of love and still a work in progress!” Beautiful Homes of Instagram I didn’t have a covered porch in our last home so it’s something I really wanted in this one! This is just one side of the porch and this was taken shortly after we moved in before we painted the porch floor or took down the construction fence! Indoor/outdoor rug by Mohawk. Siding is Hardie Plank concrete siding by James Hardie in Night Gray. Foyer My entryway I kept simple but elegant with the grid board and batten paneled walls and crisp white paint. Foyer bench is from Joss & Main. Other inspiring options: here & here. Pillows are custom. Lighting I wanted my chandelier by Hinkley Lighting to take center stage! You should of seem the amount of scaffolding and people it took to hang it! It was love at very first sight for me! Grey Doors Interior door color for all of my interior doors in the entire house is a custom mix of Stardew, Uncertain Gray by Sherwin Williams with a little Wales Gray by Benjamin Moore. Entry set crystal doorknobs from Grandeur Hardware. Wall Paint Color Paint color is All White by Farrow & Ball. My grandmother’s desk from the 1940’s was made over by me with 2 tone Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paris Gray and Pure White and it fits perfectly there. Hardwood Floors Floors are Dream Home X20 laminate in Misty Morning Oak from Lumber Liquidators. Mirror The geometric frame and golden finish mirror is from Joss & Main. Dining Room Our dining area is open to the family room and kitchen. I did not want a separate room that no one would ever go in. I also chose not to have an eating area in the kitchen which is just steps away. I wanted this room to be where we ate and gathered unless we were at the island which has plenty of room for the 5 of us! I had my husband do more of the paneled wall boxes in here and kept them white for the time being knowing it would be easy down the road to paint that wall a color should I decide I want a change. Paint color is All White by Farrow & Ball. Crown Molding is Ultra Pure White by Behr. Table was purchased at an antique shop and is refinished in Annie Sloan chalk paint. French Linen and Pure White. Chairs were an antique store find about 16 years ago. I got 6 of them for $50! I had my husband take them apart and re-nail them to make sure they were sturdy. He then painted them and I reupholstered them. I want to get new chairs soon but these have been great for many many years and certainly worth well more than the price I paid! White cane end chairs were also an antique shop find and I painted them and reupholstered them. The pair for $20! Christmas sign by Signs of Hope. Chairs flanking sideboard from Restoration Hardware. Lighting My husband made the sideboard which used to be our media console in the old house. Chandelier by Hinkley Lighting from Lighting Design Company. Lamps by Horchow. Kitchen I could not be happier with how our kitchen turned out! I put less expensive materials in other places so that I could make sure to get the things I wanted in the kitchen. Because it is quite large, even when being very budget conscience with choices, it can quickly add up because you need so much! I definitely knew we couldn’t afford commercial appliances or very high end ones. I did a ton of research as we had a cut and dry number that I could not go above for all of our appliances in our house. I chose the Fridgidaire Gallery line and so far so good! We have an induction cooktop and I really love it. Kitchen Island & Hood Range Hood made my husband. He also made the island and did the same X detail on island ends, side of fridge, and built in doors in family room. Pendant lights by Golden Lighting. Island is 10 feet long by 4 feet wide. Countertop Counters are white Carrara marble which I knew I had to have even though they can get a bad reputation. I knew nothing else compared to the look of marble so I am fine with a little more maintenance. Sink & Faucet Sink is by Kohler. Faucet is American Standard. Pulls are Hickory Hardware. Backsplash Backsplash is Arabescato Carrara marble in a herringbone pattern. Counterstools Acrylic barstools by Gabby Home. Open Layout In our old house, the family room was separated from the kitchen by a wall that we couldn’t take down so another must have for this house we built was having the kitchen and family room together. Because of that design, it was important the 2 rooms flow and have same design elements. Family Room Sofa by Craftmaster – similar here. Rug by Nourison from the Kathy Ireland collection. Custom pillows by Cruel Mountain Designs. Built-ins The built-ins with x door detail and the shiplap backs were made by my husband and painted our house trim color: Ultra Pure White by Behr. Satin brass hardware can be found here. Chandelier by Crystorama designed by Libby Langdon. Brass swing arm sconces by Savoy House. Gold and glass table from Home Goods. Chairs White Chairs are from Lamps Plus. Ottomans Blue X leg ottomans from Joss and Main. Barn Door A grey barn door conceals a modern farmhouse-inspired mudroom. Mudroom I didn’t have a mudroom in our previous home that we lived in for 16 years so it was first on my list of needs for this home! I wanted the blue built-ins my husband made to really stand out so I kept the walls the same crisp white as the rest of the house. That paint color is All White by Farrow & Ball. I also wanted a fun patterned tile and I wanted durability so I chose a patterned porcelain tile by Merola that I bought from Wayfair. Chandelier by Hinkley Lighting. Satin Brass door knobs from Baldwin Hardware. Grey Doors: Custom mix of Stardew, Uncertain Gray by Sherwin Williams with a little Wales Gray by Benjamin Moore. Master Bedroom Our master bedroom is one the main level. It is part of a bump out in the rear of the house with amazing views. Our house is on 5 acres and we have beautiful fields, woods, and rolling hills all around us. We chose to put mainly windows on the whole back wall for this reason. I wanted a very bright airy room so I chose to use the crisp white paint in here. If you didn’t already know, I love white!! White walls make me happy and draw your attention to furniture pieces and art. We still need to add molding to this room as part of my design plan from the beginning but some things we just haven’t gotten to yet! Custom upholstered headboard from The Tufted Frog. Bedding from Linens and Hutch. End of bed leather bench from Joss & Main. White Tree from Joss & Main. Custom pillows from Cruel Mountain Designs. Table lamps from Home Goods. Brass chandelier from Lamps Plus – similar here. White fabric Roman shades from Blinds.com – similar here. Rug by Surya Rugs. Master Bath Our master bath is another space where I chose to scrimp on other bathrooms so that I could put the materials I wanted in here. We chose to pare down the size of the bathroom to allow for a larger closet for me which is through that pocket door. Again, my love for cool white and gray marble ruled all of my decisions. Floor is Carrara marble 12×24 tiles laid in a herringbone pattern. Counters are Mont Blanc marble and are 9 feet long. I used square undermount sinks. Wallpaper by York Wallcoverings. It’s a raised textured paper. Turkish towels by Olive and Linen. Chandelier by Artcraft Lighting. Details I wanted to use a mirror that covered the entire wall so I chose to have my sconces mounted to the mirror. Lucite and polished nickel sconces by Savoy House. Faucets are American Standard. Cabinet hardware in polished nickel from Amerock Hardware. Stool from Joss and Main. Shower Shower floor is Carrara marble hexagon tile and walls are Carrara 3×6 subway tile. Shower seat is a solid slab of Mont Blanc marble. Daughter’s Room My daughter is the only girl so we are all about making everything girly for her! The wallpaper in her room takes the focus so I wanted to leave her other 3 walls crisp white. I chose to do the ceiling in a blush pink – Intimate White by Sherwin Williams. It adds some fun to her ceiling. Her bed, nightstands, and bench are all french antiques. Bedding from Beddy’s. Pillows from Home Goods. Wallpaper by York Wallcoverings. Chandelier from Pottery Barn. 8×10 Rug from esale rugs. Same flooring upstairs as we have downstairs. Daughter’s Bathroom My only daughter gets the bedroom with the ensuite bathroom. Her counter is Quartzite. She also has the only bathtub in the house. I chose white 3×12 elongated subway tile laid in a herringbone pattern for her shower walls. Antique chair I painted the ceiling color – SW Intimate white (which oddly enough is a blush pink). Walls are like her room All White by Farrow & Ball. Floor tile is 12×24 tile from Home Depot. All cabinetry in the house from J&K Cabinetry. Shower curtain from Home Goods. Chandelier from Wayfair. Oldest Son’s room My oldest just so happened to get the largest of the kids’ rooms. In our last house, all of their bedrooms were about 10×10 so it is so amazing having so much space! His room is about 13×17. Lucky Kid! He also has the largest of the closets. I did gray painted walls in his room. Paint color is Seattle by Sherwin Williams. One wall is wallpapered in paper from MK Wallpaper designed by Jullian Harris. Bed, nightstand, and desk are all refinished antique shop finds. Gray braided chair from Lamp Plus. Leather butterfly chair from Home Goods. Task Lamp from Home Goods. Light fixture from Lighting Design Company. Tommy Hilfiger drapes from Home Goods. Middle Son’s Room The 8×10 rug by Mohawk. Bedding by Beddy’s. Light fixture from Lighting Design Company. Wood planked wall from Stikwood. Antique lockers are salvaged and bought at a flea market. Bed was also a flea market find and I repainted it. Wall color is Kentucky Haze by Benjamin Moore. Pillows by Summed Classics. Meet the Homeowers Make sure to follow Molly from @mk_interiors_ on Instagram and stop by her website to see more photos of her beautiful home! London Perfect: A Traveler’s Sanctuary
When traveling across time zones, the reminder of how important quality sleep is becomes readily apparent. As I plan my travel itinerary, I have placed as a high priority upon deplaning a cozy vacation rental and an ease of arrival to that sanctuary. And of course, most importantly, a luxurious beckoning bed to combat as much of the jet lag as I possibly can.
For my recent trip to England, I had the opportunity to work with London Perfect Vacation Rentals. Knowing about their business in Paris (Paris Perfect), I was confident I would be in good hands, and indeed I was correct. (They also have vacation rentals in Provence, Italy and Bali.)
From the pick-up at the airport with a luxury car service they have partnered with for nearly twenty years, I exited the arrivals door to immediately find my driver holding a sign with my name on it. From that moment, my luggage was out of my hands enabling me to relax in the back of the leather-interior detailed BMW sedan.
Upon arrival in London, near Kensington High Street, I was greeted by a London Perfect staff member Will who was utterly delightful. Walking me through the flat, he answered all of my questions, showed me how to work the locks and entry into the apartment building and made sure I knew what the wi-fi password was (important details for us bloggers, non?).
The flat in which I stayed was a one bedroom, ground level apartment located on a quiet alley lined with luxury shops of men’s clothing, women’s hats and shoes as well as the neighborhood church with is approximately 20 steps away St. Mary Abbots. The walkway provided a quiet night’s sleep as no cars zoomed past, and with a primely located Undergound station (Kensington-High Street) just across the street once you make your way through the alley, the ease of getting around London to explore was ideal.
As you will see in the images below, the accommodation is filled with natural light in the living spaces as well as every other room throughout the flat (the bathroom as well as the kitchen which looks out over the alley way). Having been recently completely remodeled, The Gordon is a new accommodation that was just added to London Perfect’s selection.
No detail was left unattended. With brilliant English tea, shortbread biscuits, champagne and milk in the refrigerator, I cozied right in after taking a few hours to poke about the area (see a few images below) until my eyes could not be kept open any longer, sipped on a hot cup of tea and snuggled into my luxuriously plush queen bed. Oh, yet another detail that made the flat feel like a sanctuary: Whole Foods is also on Kensington High Street, so I popped inside on my walk home (two blocks from the flat), picked up a simple, yet comforting dinner, and with the well-stocked kitchen, had a lovely dinner before watching an episode of Miss Marple while I finished the following morning’s post for the blog.
Upon waking from truly the best night’s sleep I’ve had after a transcontinental flight, I discovered another wonderful fact about the location of the Gordon flat, just around the corner from the brick lined alley way through lovely garden sitting areas for the public was The Ivy Kensington Brasserie. Opening at 8 am for breakfast and serving dinner until 11pm, for the Francophile in me, I was thrilled to be in proximity of everything I might need (to cook or to dine out) right outside my door.
~the entrance of The Ivy Kensington Brasserie decorated for the holidays~
Without a doubt, my trip was off to a great start and it was in large part due to the accommodations offered by London Perfect. In full disclosure, my room was complimentary for writing a review of my stay, but as I planned my trip, I sought them out as a luxury vacation rental I would wish to stay in and had hoped to be as pleased as I am. In fact, the accommodations and especially the service, surpassed my expectations, and if you too choose to travel to London, you will be in good hands.
Be sure to check out their special offers as well as last minute reservation discounts to enjoy the city of London in ideally located flats throughout the city. Explore the entire list of rentals here available at London Perfect and take a look at The Gordon through my experience below.
~the footstools above were throughout the home, reupholstered to fit each room (one in the bedroom was used at the dressing table). A lovely detail that enables more comfort and more seating if necessary for guests.~

Details to ensure seamless travel from the airport:
~For the car service, London Perfect makes all of the arrangements for you. You are only responsible for payment of the service in cash (which was about 60 pounds).
~If your luggage is delayed in its arrival as mine was (two hours), they will patiently wait for you, but make sure you contact either London Perfect or the driving service directly immediately to avoid additional payment.

I Bought A Sewing Machine And I’m Really Excited About It
I’m a dweeb, but I don’t care because now I can make sh*t.
As I tend to do with any big purchase, I research extensively, sit on it for a few months, rinse and repeat. I’ve been wanting to tackle some upholstery projects, dabble in making clothes, and fix existing clothes for a while. I just have a very Depression-era way of handling money and I hesitate to spend money on myself.
Then I got a bonus and thought: to hell with it. (I did responsible stuff with half of it, the rest was for fun.)
I still sat on the idea of buying a sewing machine until earlier this week. I was just having a very bad day, and I tend to treat bad days with either sleeping or retail therapy, mostly the former.
It was a rage purchase, but a useful one
As soon as I left work, I went to a fabric wholesaler, that also happens to house a sewing machine dealer and repair business in the front. In my extensive research, I read (in the comments) that most sewers preferred doing business with an independent dealer rather than a big box store. I’m jumping on that bandwagon because my experience at Mr. Sewing Place was awesome.
I met a woman named Patricia, who asked me about what I wanted to make and what my budget was. She steered me to a Babylock BL9, a brand and model I hadn’t heard of. I don’t remember the sewing machine I used in my 7th grade sewing class, but my mom owns a really old Singer. Unfortunately, I had read the new Singers weren’t so hot, and the spool pins loaded from the side, which meant I could only use small spools of thread in order for it to fit.
Patricia explained the advantages of the BL9 to me, what she liked about it, and even showed me how to not only load the bobbin, but take it apart whenever it jams. After a 45 minute conversation, in which we talked about home flipping, horses, and city living, I had the Babylock, a zipper foot, and new bobbins in hand.
I’m literally geeking out
I carted a big box home and my husband, JR said, “oh dear,” or something to that effect. I started playing with the BL9, while he kept saying “be careful” over my shoulder. It was kind of cute.
Here’s what I like so far:
It’s mechanical.
The thread loads on the top, and I can push the spool pins down to travel.
It’s really easy to thread in general, from bobbins to the needle.
It has all the stitches I need, and none of the extraneous stuff I don’t understand.
It’s light, but sturdy. I live in a 700 sq ft apartment, so I don’t need something huge either.
Here’s a range of stitches the Babylock BL9 can do, including blind stitching and stretch stitching. Obviously I can’t sew in a straight line.
As of now, I’ve got a growing list of projects to tackle. Searching through Pinterest can be frustrating at times, because I don’t need useless little sewn trinkets. I donated or sold half of my belongings prior to getting married in an operation I nickname “The Great Purge,” so I’m not trying to accumulate clutter.
Here’s a couple of things I hope to work on in the near future:
A tortilla warmer. I can’t find a fabric tortilla warmer that doesn’t have chilis or sombreros printed on it. SO STEREOTYPICAL, STOP IT.
A cover for my sewing machine. Naturally.
Reupholstering our living room sectional and armchair. Yikes. I got a couple of professional quotes for the armchair in $500 range, so I was like, nope. We paid $30 for the armchair and the leather sectional was free, courtesy my neighbor’s front yard. I’m ordering an upholstery book and obsessively watching Sailrite’s tutorials.
Curtains, probably. My siblings and I joke that all my mom knows how to sew is curtains. (She knows more than that.)
A simple pattern, like this top.
And because I’m a spreadsheet geek, I’m going to try to track how cost-effective sewing is over the long term. I only took one math class in college though, since it’s not my strong point, so we’ll see how this goes.
