The Beginning
Mob!Bucky x Reader, Steve Rogers
Tumblr media
I'd recommend listening to this for this chapter!
Warnings (apply to the whole series): drugging, mafia/gang activity, criminal activity, age gap (reader is over the age of 18), arson, death, murder, coercion/peer pressure (non-sexual), manipulation/brainwashing, parental issues (a.k.a daddy issues), abuse of power.
Summary: When you're forced to move to a new town due to your father's "business trouble," you're likely to be left to fend for yourself, alone, and bored. You should probably try to make some friends.
Your head rests against the window pane of your father's leather adorned S-Class Mercedes Benz, thumping every now and again as he practically raced into the estate. You would have thought he'd take a more secluded approach, perhaps swaying away from using his shiniest car at 75 mph and buying the largest house on the street full in cash. You weren't complaining though. As the car slowed to a halt before the house, your eyes narrowed. This house was smaller than the previous ones - your father must be in serious "business trouble."
Your door opened with a click as you were met with the offer of Matthew's assistance. He was one of your father's favoured men when it came to your protection, but you both know he' hardly get through a staring contest, let alone a fight for your life. You stood, stretching after the 4 hour car drive from Leesville. Exhaustion from being cooped up in the back of the car for so long washed over you like a wave as Matthew lifted your luggage from the boot - one of the many benefits of having burly men working for your father was that you never had to put much effort into doing things for yourself, another being that they could arrange for the house to be fully furnished and cleaned before your arrival.
Your heels clicked against the polished white steps as you reached the front porch, stopping behind your father one of his men unlocked the door for you all. Your parents remained silent as the door was pushed open to reveal the interior of the house. Throughout the entirety of the car journey, your parents hardly spoke a word to one another too, let alone to you. Their love had a soft and strange unspoken nature, one in which many usually mistook for coldness, but your father had always been distant with you anyway. He had wanted a son, an heir to his throne, and as a woman, you could never be such a thing. By the time your mother had healed from your birth, she had grown too old to bear another child safely. Your father didn't detest you, but you knew you'd never live up to what he wanted, and the effect of that knowledge was just as harsh as the former.
As you peered over your parents' shoulders, your eyes widened. Despite the decrease in size compared to your last home, the house was actually gorgeous. The walls were painted a dusted cream, almost sun kissed in a way. The floors were light wood panelling, and the stair case twisted and curved to reach the second floor, which had walls painted a shade ever so slightly darker and warmer in tone than the walls down stairs. The pure and bright interior design was almost curious, considering your father's usual dark and sharp decoration requests. Catching a glimpse of your mother's faint smile told you that this time, the decorating was not per your father's desires, but hers instead. You father's eyes warmed in a way that did so only for his wife as he looked at her. See: unspoken. She needed not to thank him, because the quirk in her lip said enough. You smiled fondly as your eyes looked between your parents, a stab of jealousy rushing through your chest as you wondered where love like that could be found.
When your parents entered the house, you followed behind them eagerly, excited to see what your room would be like. Admittedly, it was a bit embarrassing for a girl of your age and wealth to be living with her parents still, but given your father's work situation, it would be too dangerous for you to live alone, unprotected. Turning to close the door behind you, you momentarily locked eyes with one of the most attractive men you had ever seen. Although he was relatively far away, his features were perfectly defined. His jaw was brushed with the faintest of stubble, his jawline sharp enough to cut open your finger if you dared to touch it. His eyes were a piercing shade of blue, stopping you in your tracks as your grip on the door handle faltered. As your mother called your name, you were snapped back to reality, turning once more to look at the man, leaning against his door frame, hands in his pockets and knitted sweater clinging to his muscles, before closing the door and making your way upstairs.
You hadn't noticed, in your flustered panic, the smirk that fell upon his lips and the darkness that settled in his eyes as he watched you retreat into the house.

When The Party's Over
Here it is, the end of October, Halloween to be exact. Tomorrow many across the Southwestern part of the US and Mexico will celebrate Dia De Los Muertos - The day of the dead. Then, that wraps up the Summer and Fall festivals for another year. And, what a season it has been for me, it was pretty much being somewhere new each week with my inaugural book tour and promoting my historical fiction about my 3rd great grandmother, "Oh! Susannah". All good things must come to an end, so they say.
The tour started on March 4th at a Local Author's event in Canton, Ohio. That giddy beginning had me reminiscing back to my youth, when I was just a little further east on State Route 30, in Minerva, Ohio. Each early summer the "Minerva Homecoming" would occur in Brock Park, situated nicely beside the Little Sandy River; creek actually. Anyway, the rides and concessions would start to arrive late on Saturday night and on through Sunday, with an anticipated "opening" of Monday evening, after the Firemen's Parade. How did they expect kids to wait that long when you could see from the road, just along the creek, a hub of activity. I was never allowed to go onto the park grounds, only viewing from a safe distance on my bike. The anticipation! And, this similar anticipation is what had me eager to start what turned out to be, an eight-month book tour.
My wife and I were traveling to Perryville, Kentucky about three weeks ago, when while at an Ohio Interstate rest stop, I show my wife where my travels this year had taken me. My left arm extended to the middle of the state, and formed the western boundary, while my right arm lie horizontally at the southern boundary of Cadiz, Ohio. Admittedly, we were taken back by the visual of the whole of Northeast Ohio!
Yes, it's been a great tour. I've met so many interesting people who have generously shared their stories and experiences with me. I've learned so much and equally have made every effort to share my knowledge of what it was like to live as a woman in the 19th century. Then, there were all the stories about Susannah's brothers' Civil War service. My hope is that I've given to others as much as they have shared with me. And, in the process, hundreds of signed copies of "Oh! Susannah" have exchanged hands.
It seems appropriate that the last outdoor event, The Algonquin Mill Festival, was held about 5 miles west of where Susannah's story takes place. I have such fond memories of my grandmother, Wilda Beckley, dressing up as a pioneer woman and knitting with all of her other lady friends, mind you in all kinds of weather, at the Mill Festival. I sat through days of rain too as fate would have it.
From the Algonquin Festival, I met people from my hometown and was also introduced to a locally renowned historian, John Davis. Our initial meeting led to John introducing me to Ralph Brackin about a week later. Ralph, who by the way will turn 97 early next year, and John provided me with their knowledge of Union Township, which will be "the home" of my sequel, "A novelization of John Hiram Beckley".
John Davis with the help of another local author and historian, Janice Lane, had me walking through the tree-studded, land-locked property that my grandfather's grandfather, John Hiram Beckley, once owned. Looking at it today, I have no idea how John Hiram farmed this piece of land. It was John Davis' great grandfather who owned the adjacent property directly north of this plot. John told of how his family's land was swallowed up with the creation of the man-made Leesville Lake. Memories came flooding back to me as we pulled into the Leesville boat ramp, the very spot 50 + years ago I had tenuously held on to the rope that kept my grandpa's boat "tethered" while he parked the car and trailer. A quick stop for bait - minnows and maggots - as we grew our own earthworms back then, and we motored off on to the lake with gramp's 5 horse power engine for a day of fishing!
Research, writing and memories have been the foundation and success of my first publication, and now that the fair and festival season is officially over, these very things will provide me the path forward to write my next book.
If by chance you do not currently own your own copy of "Oh! Susannah", you can do so by visiting my website: www.beckleysbooks.com Til next week, when I will blog again, cheers!

Raleigh Apartment Culture
So I'm of the mind that Raleigh is a great place to live. It has my favorite things, my favorite people, and I'm too broke to move anywhere else.
Raleigh works for me, but I recognize it doesn't work for everyone. Some people had less than ideal childhoods and wanna escape the state ASAP, some just want to live closer to their dream jobs or have new opportunities. That's all fine, but what if this describes where you are now?
What if, for the sake of argument, you're outside of NC and wanna move in? Moving is expensive, time-consuming, and risky at the best of times; so you wanna make sure that wherever you're landing is at least as good as where you started 90% of the time
"But RL," I hear you say, "you make Raleigh sound like an idyllic dreamscape populated with parks and a diverse kumbayah of peoples living in harmony"
I do talk about Raleigh in a positive light but, like a life saving medicine flavored like ass, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
So before you spend thousands of dollars on moving vans, boxes, and grits; here's a crash course on what it's like living in a Raleigh apartment, coming from someone whose majority of Raleigh Living (heh) has been in apartments.
Tumblr media
First off, location. Any realtor will tell you that location is 80% of the sale to sound profound, and as anyone who has lived in the middle of ass-backward nowhere can tell you: It sucks having to drive 30 minutes to go anywhere.
Good news: With the Raleigh Beltline and connecting roads, there are very few places in Raleigh where your trip will last longer than thirty minutes one-way. Bad News: where you set down still matters because cutting down on travel is important for car and mental health.
North Raleigh is different from south Raleigh is different from northwest Raleigh, and the locals aren't the only difference you'll find between locations. Each segment of Raleigh has something to offer, with easier access to some attractions than others and neighboring cities for when you need something outside the RDU area.
Tumblr media
Using downtown as the center of our wheel, people generally divide Raleigh into North and South Raleigh (with distinction given for NW, SE, NE, etc when needed). N.Raleigh is considered generally more upscale, a slice of suburban living interspersed with plenty of shopping centers for families and the moderately wealthy; but it's boring as all hell.
Want some fun? Excitement in the evenings and a more traditional urban experience with bars, night clubs, strip clubs, and more? South Raleigh is your best bet, at the cost of being the "sketchy" side of Raleigh. That kind of place where you'll see a bunch of auto shops that look abandoned but haven't been closed in the past 5 years and there's at least one customer from time to time.
Of course, this is a lot of generalizing but you'll find that it's still mostly accurate. The main exception in this is Capital Blvd, a highway cutting across north and south Raleigh on the eastern half of the city; a high crime corridor that's undergoing some changes in the northern half that have (somewhat) reduced crime but most people will still associate that area with the majority of Raleigh's crime and debauchery.
Tumblr media
More importantly, is the distinction Raleigh citizens put on inside the beltline versus outside the beltline. The I-440 and 540 highways that wrap around Downtown form the mythical beltline, and to a degree what you have access to. Inside the beltline is the majority of workplaces, stores, and shopping centers; while outside you'll still have these things just to a more... dispersed extent.
North Raleigh actually kinda exemplifies this perfectly. Living inside the beltline, you have access to places like North Hills, Crabtree Valley mall, and Triangle Town Center. Live outside the beltline, like I currently am, and you're looking at 10 to 15 minutes to the nearest sheetz for that late night double hot dog fix.
So for point one: How important is it that you're near things? The majority of apartments and rental properties are in or around the belt-line, but if you want to save some cash on rent checks the cheaper properties are gonna extend your trips a bit.
Tumblr media
Next, what can you expect in terms of neighbors? Does Raleigh have a hip party scene full of teens renting cheap apartments and blasting trap music at 3AM?
Depends on where you live
I swear not every point is going to be this, but there's an important distinction this time that affects the type of people your complex will likely have surrounding you; are you in North or South Raleigh?
North Raleigh has a ton of pre-schools, k-12 public schools (Leesville, Hillburn, Lead Mine, just to name a few), and office complexes that make up the job market. As a result the majority of apartment renters in north Raleigh tend to be families with a few small kids or so.
As a result, living off of Glenwood North and Edwards Mill I never had any noise problems from neighbors, the worst being kids playing outside at 3PM sounding like they were being murdered (which apparently is a common thing and I apologize to any neighbors I frightened with ghastly shrieks).
Tumblr media
What I did have a problem with, however, was the typical Karen's you hear people complain about online. Renting a property now, we have access to our neighborhood's NextDoor page and it's hilarious sometimes to go on and read the comments, but living at a certain property we had a sort of mini-Facebook for residents
That thing was always full of either people who were moving out looking to sell their furniture or people passive-aggressively challenging each other/the apartment managers with comments about things happening around the complex.
Once I logged in to see one man accuse another, without ever actually accusing someone specific ("I know who did it and they should be ashamed" type post) of putting glass beer bottles under the tires of his truck to try and puncture them. Everyone acts civil in public, but then online they'll stir the pot harder than a chef with a hand mixer.
Tumblr media
South Raleigh, you have the schools like Shaw University, Meredith, and NCSU; so the people renting down there are typically college kids. You'll see more apartments that cater towards them like University Village or University Woods, but sometimes these places will cater to both college kids and working adults
Avoid these places like the plague, because despite sometimes having a lower cost to live there the neighbors and their shenanigans will drive you up the wall (unless you're the type to join in, then go wild).
I've had friends stay at places like University Village and The Proper (formerly The Vie, formerly Wolf Creek) who've shared horror stories. 3AM parties ending in property damage or vomit in inconvenient places, drug deals not even trying to be subtle, and maintenance workers doing nothing because regardless of the apartment conditions; no school's gonna pull their contract with them unless news articles start getting written.
http://www.technicianonline.com/news/article_898ddf34-82f5-11e7-b3d8-07059d248619.html
https://www.wral.com/vie-at-raleigh-residents-finally-able-to-move-into-clean-units/16887833/
http://www.technicianonline.com/news/article_ea8ed7aa-a092-11e8-a2af-e70af36566d0.html
Otherwise, south Raleigh apartments are largely like north Raleigh apartments; except the crime rate tends to be a little higher and you'll run into more singles and people working full time.
Tumblr media
Otherwise, Raleigh apartment culture is like apartment culture anywhere else in the country. You have a mix of apartments catering to those just looking to live versus more ostentatious luxury apartments with fancy pools, exercise facilities, and tech packages to draw people in.
If you're renting in Raleigh, however, do try to get a roommate or two if you can manage. Even with a decent job paying 800+ on a one bedroom one bath apartment can be exhausting at best, but with even one other person that can functionally halve your expenses
Tumblr media
So if you're a young professional, or a student, or even if you have a small family, I can safely recommend renting in Raleigh. There's plenty of places that'll accommodate you, and cater towards your needs.
But what about everyone else? Are there people who shouldn't rent in Raleigh?
No
But there are groups who I'd seriously ask to consider their other choices before picking Raleigh as a destination for their new home.
Tumblr media
For instance, are you a member of the LGBT community? A trans or non-binary individual? Well then, first off, I want you to know that you're loved and valid. I'm accepting of who you are and appreciate everyone's right to identify how they choose, but I'm not everyone.
Raleigh's bluer than other parts of North Carolina, as I've stated in other blog write-ups, but it's still part of North Carolina unfortunately and as a result, you'll face some challenges.
I doubt anyone's gonna burn a cross in your yard or knock over your mailbox, but Raleigh doesn't offer LGBT protections for housing, jobs, or credit/lending discriminations according to the Movement Advancement Project's website.
We have support organizations for LGBT and NB individuals, plenty of high schools and colleges have Gay-Straight Alliance clubs, and there are numerous businesses downtown that cater specifically to those individuals... but we're also the state that got into a lot of hot water because of a stupid bathroom bill, and our politicians are trying to pass anti-trans sports legislation (because they now magically care about the integrity of womens sports).
By that measure, but to a lesser extent, if you fall outside the Liberal/Conservative political spectrum then be prepared to have no one to discuss your politics with outside of a few sparse networks like the DSA.
Tumblr media
Additionally, if you don't have someone to room with or a significant other to split costs with; you may want to try searching somewhere a little cheaper.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Raleigh housing prices aren't terrible for a major metropolitan city, but we're not the best prices in the world.
You can get prices on apartments and rentals lower than say, California or New York. However, compared to other parts of NC like Greensboro or Garner; rentals are still a bit much.
On average, a Raleigh apartment can run you about $900 for a single bedroom and a single bathroom. You can find cheaper, but often times there's some risk associated (Crime levels, quality of the room, quality of the property manager, etc.) Looking for a two bedroom? Then your average price is gonna jump up to around $1,200, and this is all before utilities and cable come into play.
It's true a lot of companies around here will pay more than the $7.25 minimum wage, but most low-skilled jobs will pay around 10-11 an hour.
I guess though, that's kind of an obvious statement. "Don't live in Raleigh if you can't afford to live in Raleigh."
I might expand on these thoughts at a later time, but hopefully for now I've given you some food for thought; or at the very least an entertaining read for a few minutes.
I love my city, and I love the friends I've made in it, but the sad truth is that nowhere is perfect for everyone; leastways Raleigh. If Raleigh sounds like the kind of place you'd like to live in, at least take a day trip to come visit and see how things go that way. Visit some stores, meet some locals, and form an opinion off of more than travel blogs and youtube videos.

San Francisco to Seattle
17 May - 5 June 2021
I thought it might be good to provide a summary of my recent 20-day ride from San Francisco to Seattle. Each day resulted in its own entry (linked below), but I wanted to provide a broader overview. (LINK: post about gear and bike setup).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My route covered 1187 miles over 20 days (I-5, by car, is 820 miles). I averaged 62 miles per day, not counting my rest day (daily miles ranged from 32 to 88). I chose to take an inland route, in part because the roads were less trafficked and in part because I have a fondness of the wide open spaces of the interior. If I had been riding north to south, I might have opted for the coast, but there was no way I was going to add persistent northerly headwinds to an already very hilly and heavily trafficked (but very scenic) route.
Here are the links to individual days:
Day 1. 5-17. San Francisco to Petaluma. Pacific Ocean. Golden Gate Bridge. Dinner with M.
Day 2. 5-18. Petaluma to Clearlake. Santa Rosa. Chalk Hills. Ida Clayton Road. Middletown.
Day 3. 5-19. Clearlake to Williams. Clear Lake. Bartlett Springs Road. Leesville Grade.
Day 4. 5-20. Williams to Browns Valley. Sacramento River. Sutter Buttes. Central Valley.
Day 5. 5-21. Browns Valley to La Porte. Uphill, all day. Log trucks and wet snow.
Day 6. 5-22. La Porte to Quincy. North Sierras.
Day 7. 5-23. Quincy to Bogard. Spanish Fork. Taylorsville. Moonlight Pass. Westwood.
Day 8. 5-24. Bogard to Fall River Mills. Old Station. Hat Creek. Cassell Road.
Day 9. 5-25. Fall River Mills to Lava Beds. Bieber. Lookout. Tionesta.
Day 10. 5-26. Lava Beds to Klamath Falls. Lava. Tule Lake. Oregon.
Day 11. 5-27. Klamath Falls to Mazama Village. Klamath Lake. Crater Lake NP.
Day 12. 5-28. Mazama Village to Davis Creek. Crater Lake. US97. Cascade Lakes.
Day 13. 5-29. Davis Creek to Bend. Sun River. Deschutes River Trail.
Day 14. 5-30. Bend to Santiam Pass. Sisters. Lost Lake.
Day 15. 5-31. Santiam Pass to Sublimity. Detroit.
Day 16. 6-1. Sublimity to Portland. Silverton. Oregon City. The Willamette River.
Day 17. 6-2. Portland. Rest day.
Day 18. 6-3. Portland to Kelso. US 30 along Columbia. Longview.
Day 19. 6-4. Kelso to Yelm. Castle Rock. Chehalis. Tenino.
Day 20. 6-5. Yelm to Seattle. Spanaway. Puyallup. Green and Duwamish Rivers. Downtown.
The following is a link to the entire route in RideWithGPS. Note that this is a close approximation of the route, but not necessarily exact. The day-by-day posts above link to the actual ride data, which show enough detail to capture wrong turns, side trips, and exactly where I stopped for food, camped, or pulled off for a view.
My steepest climbs were Ida Clayton Road in Sonoma County on the second day and Bartlett Springs Road east of Clear Lake on the third. My longest climb was on the western slope of the northern Sierras, which rose from near sea level to over 6500'. Day 5, from Browns Valley to La Porte, resulted in a total climb of almost 8800’, the most I’ve ever done in a day. Other notable, but easier climbs included Moonlight Pass north of Taylorsville (Day 7), the climb to Crater Lake (Day 11), and the ascent of Santiam Pass (Day 14). The highest point on the ride was 7600’ along the west rim of Crater Lake (Day 12). I crisscrossed the Pacific Crest Trail numerous times in CA and OR.
Geologically, this was a very volcanic route. Lots of lava. Lots of cones and craters and calderas. I saw Sutter Buttes, Lassen, Shasta, Medicine Lake (Lava Beds), McLaughlin, Mazama (Crater Lake), Thielsen, Diamond Peak, Newberry (Paulina Peak), Bachelor, The Sisters, Washington, Jefferson, Hood, Adams, St Helens, and Rainier. Some were closer than others, but they were all around me.
Tumblr media
While there were some great (rough, difficult, but sometimes wonderful) gravel segments, a vast majority of the ride was on pavement. The most memorable gravel was on Bartlett Springs Road and on Moonlight Valley/Old Town Road between Taylorsville and Westwood. The Deschutes River Trail was a great dirt ride, mainly easy single track, but made me glad I was riding a gravel bike with a bike packing setup and not my touring bike with panniers. The Ida Clayton Road north of Santa Rosa and Hill Road east Lava Beds National Monument were paved, but badly, and should probably count as gravel!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I stayed in motels when I could and camped when I needed to. Motels are often generic and uninteresting (not always) and expensive, but they have running water and hot showers, outlets for charging, a place to wash out and dry clothing, and are much warmer when you get up in the morning. They are usually near stores and restaurants and usually have WiFi and cell service (not always). Camping is more rewarding and more immersive. Cold nights. Full moons. Misty lakes. Wildlife. Noisy birds. There were a couple of regular campgrounds and a bunch of wild camps or primitive sites that were nearly wild.
Tumblr media
Highlights are always tough (and often the highlights of bike trip are moments not spent on the bike). The Golden Gate Bridge. Dinner with M on her birthday along the Petaluma River. Dropping down the Leesville Grade. Indian Valley and Young's Market in Taylorsville. The view of Lassen and Shasta over the Hat Creek Valley. The patio at the Fall River Hotel. Crater Lake. Riding into Bend along the Deschutes River Trail. The morning mist on Lost Lake west of Santiam Pass. Coffee at Dragonfly and breakfast at Besaw on my rest day in Portland.
And then there are the people and the conversations. The volunteers at the randoneuring check point in Quincy. Scott and Barb and Les in Fall River. Tom at Lava Beds. The guy in the coffee shop in Klamath Falls. The family at Crater Lake. Another family at the coffee shop in Sisters. Many others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, what impacts me the most is the notion of riding alone through a vast landscape. The surroundings change slowly because you are moving slowly. But they do change, and rarely do you go half a day without finding yourself in a very different kind of place. Over almost three weeks there are mountains and desert and lava and forest and city and ocean. The remoteness and the solitude is both a compelling attraction and a big source of stress. It’s wonderful, scary, and a little overwhelming, which is probably why it is so powerful emotionally. I enjoy the challenge, the anticipation, and doing something that's a little more difficult in a life that's otherwise remarkably easy. Of course, when I'm doing it, I often wish I was home, going out for the routine coffee, sitting in the back yard, and puttering around the house.
Tumblr media
There are always what-ifs. I discovered and fixed a loose derailleur on the second day before something disastrous happened. I had no flats or other mechanical problems, other than constant issues with a drive chain desperately in need of a cleaning. If it had been colder AND wetter, things might have gotten unpleasant, but as it was, weather was pretty ideal most of the time. If my periodic toothache or my sore peroneal tendon had gotten worse, there might have been a reckoning. I was passed by thousands of cars and trucks, but if they were texting or on their fifth beer, I didn’t notice (but I did think about it). Hypothermia and dehydration should always be concerns, but I brought proper gear and planned my route carefully and flexibly, making those outcomes highly unlikely. Ultimately, I suspect the most dangerous aspect of this kind of ride is my own inattention. It’s hitting something, catching the edge of pavement, or sliding in loose gravel, and taking a bad spill.
COVID impacted the trip in the same way it affects our broader lives these days. Rules, attitudes, and adherence varied from place to place and not always in the patterns you might expect - but that's true about a lot of things when traveling. The biggest issue was that places I normally rely on weren't always available - from fast food dining rooms to bathrooms. It was harder to get out of the sun, refill water bottles, charge batteries, or find WiFi.

Where is Bambi?
Bambi Brantley (25) has been missing since October 22, 1986. That night she went to a convenience store in Leesville, Louisiana, and purchased a fountain drink. She then used the payphone outside the store to call the restaurant where her brother Roddy was, but couldn’t reach him, so she left a message: “If you see my brother, tell him to come home.”
Bambi and Roddy (then 38) shared a home in a trailer park about one tenth of a mile away from the store. Bambi was originally from Memphis, but she moved to Louisiana with her brother after a breakup. She was described by her family as a loving person and sheltered girl, who was working in a car dealership at the time of her disappearance.
It’s believed that Bambi walked back home after making the call, because the fountain drink she bought was found inside. But when Roddy arrived, shortly after receiving his sister’s message, she was already gone. And no one has heard of her since then.
Is the reason why Bambi wanted her brother home connected to her disappearance?
In 2018, the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department decided to reopen Bambi’s case in the hopes to finally solve it.
Link to other cases?
Bambi’s disappearance has some similarities to other unsolved cases in the area during the 80s, women who had features like Bambi, but whose remains have all been found. All these cases have been reopened along with Bambi’s:
Mary Darlene Howard (15, second picture) went missing on April 15, 1980, while running an errand for her grandmother. Her body was found 12 days later in the woods, stabbed and possibly sexually assaulted, although it couldn’t be confirmed because of the decomposition. In this particular case, police think her killer could have been someone she knew.
Pamela Miller (23, third picture) was last seen alive the night of May 9, 1989, using a payphone at a gas station. Her remains were found by a hunter at a remote location six months later.
Tammy Call (15, fourth picture) disappeared in February 1990 from Leesville Highschool and her remains were discovered seven years later.
There’s one more interesting case that happened in Vernon Parish, and that could hold the key to solve at least some of these. On November 21, 1988, Karen Hill (21, fifth picture) was abducted from her job at a convenience store in Leesville. Her body was later found 10 miles away, tied to a tree. She had been raped and shot in the eye. It took police nine years to identify and arrest her killer: Samuel Galbraith, who’d been a 19 year old soldier at the time of the murder. Galbraith (pictured sixth) confessed to the murder, called it a fulfilled fantasy and said he’d wanted to “feel what it was like” and pled to manslaughter and was sentenced to 71 years.
In April of 2017, to the outrage of many, Galbraith was granted parole for good behavior, after only serving 20 years of his sentence. But then, news reports surfaced saying that the police and the District Attorney believed Galbraith might be a serial killer, involved in at least two other “similar cases” (Pamela Miller’s and Tammy Call’s), which made Governor John Bel Edwards intervene. Galbraith had his parole rescinded, although the parole board said it was because Karen’s mom hadn’t been properly informed of the hearing. They gave Galbraith a new date for August 2017. However, he declined to attend and sued Louisiana for treating him like a “political football.”
Galbraith couldn’t be considered a suspect in Darlene Howard’s murder, since he was only 10 years old when it happened. He would have been around 16 when Bambi disappeared, and police seems to believe that Karen was his first victim, but still, the eerie connections are lingering there.

Why Endurance Athletes Necessity Toughness Instruction (And.
I enjoy this competition because that gains a trail I managed countless kilometers on when I was collaborating with ILOG, first in Mountain Viewpoint, after that in Sunnyvale and before we received acquired by IBM. Buying a new vehicle, be it a car, ford, or truck is much more than just choosing the right make and model. Even if you've decided to buy a specific model, there are many more things, such as choosing the right dealer that you need to do before purchasing a new or used vehicle. Moving forward, here are a few simple steps that will help you to make things easier.
Start With The Inventory
One of the best things about good dealers is that they have a long list of vehicles in their inventory. And this is what you need to search for - the stocks available in the inventory. This will highly help you to make your task easier and smoother. Additionally, a vast inventory will help you discover more options by which you can save your money and get your hands on the right vehicle.
Make sure you check out both new and old vehicles. This will help you discover the model that will suit your needs and your pocket. Feel free to check out the inventory of Hixson Ford Leesville, LA. 2. Check Reviews & Ratings
Just like other online purchases, you need to check the reviews and ratings of the online dealership. Make sure you check the reviews on the dealer's website as well as on third-party sites. This will help you to get an idea of what kind of vehicles they supply. Additionally, it's good to check both negative as well as positive reviews. If you find a few negative feedback, consider it ok. But if they are more than usual, it's better to steer away from the dealer and look for another one.
3. Check Financing Options
Next, you need to check out the financing options available on the dealer's website. This will help you to have a sense of what kind of service they are offering. Some ample dealers can provide you with the best quality vehicles at affordable prices. It's good to research some good and reputable online sites like Hixson Ford Leesville LA, ready to offer you the best quality services at reasonable prices. Alternatively, if you can't find the financing options on the website, consider it a red flag. Rather than selecting them as your trusted partner, it's a wise idea to kick them out of your shortlisted companions.
4. Consider Easy Access
Buying a vehicle may be a one-time task, but you need to contact them from time to time for help. Therefore, it's a good idea to choose a dealer that is easily accessible. For instance, if you have a question about the vehicles before or after purchase, the dealer must be good enough to reply to you in real-time. Remember, a good site like Hixson Ford Leesville LA will have a good team and will provide you with unparalleled service.

Roads Less Traveled
Ah, the open road. The quick spin. Tooling around. As Americans,  we’ve always taken real pleasure in getting out of our houses, hopping into the cars we’re so attached to, and having the world unfold before us.
One of the real pleasures of driving around is discovering things like there really is a Tobacco Road (it’s in Wilson, NC), or finding yourself heading down Bubba Boulevard in Greenville, NC, or cruising around with your baby on Pinchumslyly Road (north of Bishopville, SC). Other byways can be a little more sobering. Poverty Lane in Lexington, NC, is a place you don’t want to wind up, nor do you especially want to stumble onto a Devil’s Backbone (in Aiken or Leesville, SC) or a Devil’s Racetrack (Eau Claire or Simpson, SC, or Seaboard or Bentonville, NC) without being in full control of your faculties. It’s too easy to make mistakes in places like that, and the Dark Forces are waiting.
But it’s being willing to take a few risks that makes it so tempting to get off the four-lanes and head toward the skinniest lines on the map. You’re a lot more likely to see something that hasn’t yet been packaged and price tagged for mass consumption. If you’re on the hunt for a little strangeness of that sort, lets us help you find it.

Sales to Dealers

If the Leesville used cars, they sell do not satisfy acceptable quality requirements, state laws hold dealers liable. These are known as implicit warranties, which are unstated, unwritten commitments made by the seller to the buyer. In most states, however, sellers can erase implied warranties by using the phrases “as is” or “with all flaws” in a written notification to consumers. Implied warranties do not have a time limit attached to them.

 • Drive the automobile in a variety of situations, including hills, freeways, and stop-and-go traffic.

 • Inquire about the car’s maintenance history. Contact the dealership or repair business where the majority of the work was done if the owner does not have copies. You may have access to their files.
 • Speak with the prior owner, particularly if the current owner is unaware of the vehicle’s history.
 • Using an inspection checklist, inspect the vehicle yourself. Many magazine articles, books, and websites dealing with the purchase of a secondhand car include a checklist.

Top Rated Local Moving Companies Leesville LA Offer Tips For Relocating With Pets
By Deborah Bell
The process of moving is both stressful and challenging. The complexities you are bound to encounter can easily double if you have a pet in your home. Furry friends are wonderful companions, though they could disrupt the smooth flow of activities like packing, loading and unpacking. Fortunately, there are top tips that could be helpful if you are a pet parent. During research for reliable local moving companies Leesville LA could offer you a decent number of highly regarded professionals. The most important thing to do when planning to move is to visit your vet. You want to make certain that your furry friend is in excellent health and any health issues are addressed before the date of moving. Your vet can also provide sedation options if necessary and also keep your pets health records in order because you will need to hand them over to your new service provider. When packing, you should leave one room untouched. Keep your pet in the room in question because it will still look familiar and this will help in reducing anxiety. Both cats and dogs are intelligent creatures and sudden changes in their surroundings may upset them or leave them overly anxious. Allowing your cat or dog to wander would not be ideal. Because of all that is going on, it could get scared and opt to run away. To avoid this, move it from the untouched room and lock it in its crate. Choose to travel with it in your car because seeing a familiar face will be helpful. You need to pack an overnight bag. The idea is to ascertain that your first night in your new home will be as comfortable as possible for your furry companion. Make sure that it will have its meals and entertainment as usual. Some normalcy in its routines will again assist greatly in arresting needless anxiety. There is much that you need to put in your overnight bag. Some of the items you must pack include the food, toys and bedding of your cat or doggy. Anything that is familiar to your pet will come in handy after the move and this should give you some peace of mind. It remains essential to get your canine or cat out of the way once you begin unpacking. This can be done by preparing one room that it can use as you get other items arranged. Again, create an environment that seems familiar and also provide toys that the pet can play with as you deal with other chores related to the move. Gradually introduce your pet to one room after another. The need to find dependable movers should not be taken for granted. The right experts will take a lot of stress off your shoulders and generally ensure that your transition is as smooth as possible. Before hiring any company, ascertain that it is legally in business and adequately insured. Movers who are worth their salt will also have a good reputation within your area.
