currently reading: Romans na receptę - another one of few books by Monika Szwaja that my mum borrowed in our local library. I like her style and it breaks my heart that she died being only 65🥺 There's always so much hope and friendliness and support in the world that she's depicting. And, fascinating enough, there's usually AroAllo woman representation somewhere and depicted in the positive way! Of course it is not called "aromantic" by a polish writer born in 1949, more likely for the main male character to call that "AroAllo" woman character a "robot" who "uses him as as a sex toy"🤭 - BUT nevertheless even the male protagonist really likes her, appreciates her skills as loyal assistant, treats her as good friend to confess his problems to and genuinely wishes her all the luck!👍 In other books you can expect other queers occasionally too (like a teenage son who turns out to have a boyfriend), but it's always in sympathetic and realistic yet bringing-back-faith-in-humanity kind of way🫠

" which lead to the idea of john in a cloak covered w/ yellow flowers, the idea being like. you can grow out of your past, but it still has its impacts on you. and then i drew flowers for 9 hours

flower symbolism is like, semi-intentional; i mostly just tried to stray from flowers that have strongly romantic connotations (<- queerplatonic at most jarthur truther), but didnt Really pay attention/research too heavily? anyw here's the reasoning for most of the flower choices + their symbolism (according to this google sheet smone sent me in the midst of making this <3 (note: i will be picking and choosing and ignoring symbolisms as i see fit (looking at you yellow tulips))

pale pink rose at the cloak clasp thing: based on the time kayne referred to arthur as "[their (john and kayne's)] english rose" (grace, joy)

marigolds: kayne nickname LOL (cruelty, grief, pain, other similar negative meanings LOL; note: marigold i referenced is the type you use for day of the dead, so im also saying mourning :3)

lemon blossom: kayne nickname as well - "lemonhead" <3 (discretion, fidelity in love)

yellow tulips: space filler and pretty KGJSHKD (hopeless love)

black-eyed susans: space filler and flower meaning <3 (justice)

✿~Favorite hobbies, skills and talents

• Daniel Robitaille is a talented and very detailed artist. He always seeks to do the best in his paintings. He likes to put passion into everything he does.

He has loved painting since he was young, which is why he studied at the best schools of his time to create magnificent works. He enjoys learning and applying new techniques to his arts.

• In addition of learning the best painting techniques, he also learned to behave like a polite gentleman in the society, learning to dance, speak several languages and play an instrument.

Not that he needed to prove something to someone, but to challenge himself. He likes to learn new things.

• He knows how to lead a waltz like no one else. He is a gentleman from the 19th century, and at that time, if you wanted to conquer and impress the most beautiful women in the ballroom, you needed to know how to dance. And Daniel is the best in terms of charm and elegance when dancing.

• He is bilingual, knowing how to speak French perfectly and a little bit of German. He knows how to speak other languages such as Greek and Spanish, but due to lack of practice, he remembers very little of the lessons from his time.

• One of his favorite hobbies, besides painting, is literature. He loves romance and poetry books. His favorite type of romance is those that end in tragedy. For him, there is something poetic about death and love. If you mix the two in the right amount, it's a perfect dramatic love story.

• He was taught to play instruments such as piano and violin, but he was not very interested in learning that. He is more of a listener than a musician.

• He loved going to concerts and theaters when he was alive, his favorite type of music is serene, sweet as honey. And his favorite type of theater plays are mainly dramas. But he loves a good comedy.

✿~Favorite foods and colors

• Daniel Robitaille loves good food (and who doesn't, right?) He loves roast meats, savory pies, cakes and any type of sweet.

• He loves shortbread cookies accompanied by good coffee sweetened with honey. After all, he loves sweets and sugary things.

• His favorite type of sweet pie is lemon or cherry. He loves chocolate and strawberry cakes.

• He is also a fan of good wine. He likes the ones that don't have a very strong flavor more.

• He loves colors like yellow or red (he looks good in red.)

✿~Love, sexuality and relationships (and a little of lore)

• Daniel Robitaille was and IS a very charming, seductive and charismatic man. So much charm that he could have the most beautiful girls he wanted... And the most beautiful men too.

Daniel has been interested in many women of his time, even men, but he can never date or seem interested in any man, oh no. Never!

It was a difficult time for a black person, imagine a black and queer person. Bisexuality was something abominable in those times. Many desires were repressed, forcing him to hide in the shadows. But he found safety in the lips of his beautiful muse and beloved Caroline.

• Daniel loved Caroline like he never had before. His passionate young heart was emotional, and full of affection. The two loved each other very much and swore their love every day and night. For him and Caroline, their love was strong and not even that prejudiced society could separate them. Even after their deaths.

• Daniel after spending years wandering throughout the afterlife like a ghost, waiting for someone to summon him again, he found a shelter in the underworld so he could rest while waiting to be called again. There, he sympathized with a hideous demonic creature not receptive or pleasing to people's eyes, but to his, he was the most beautiful in all of hell. The Hell Priest Pinhead

• It took a while for the cenobite's heart to soften, but he was unable to resist Daniel's charms. The two fell in love and live off the pleasure of each other's love, the comfort in each other's arms. Daniel loves his beloved Pinhead intensely, just as he loves him just as much. Intense, pleasurable.

• Daniel can finally explore his sexuality, discovering new things about his own body and mind. Feeling and satiating every bit of what Pinhead had to offer him. Intensifying the love he felt for Pinhead and his pleasures. He loved him. He loved him so much that he chose to remain in hell with his beloved for all eternity. Even if someone summoned him again, and he went to the world of the living, he would always return to his beloved.

• Daniel loves cats. He always wanted to have cats when he was alive, that's his favorite type of animal. He acts tame when around kittens, always wanting to pet them and play with them.

• He also really likes birds, he likes to hear their serene singing when he is in the world of the living.

• He also likes butterflies, they are his favorite insect. He likes how their wings are colorful and have different patterns. It gives him a lot of inspiration to paint when he see one flying.

• He doesn't get along very well with dogs, they are too noisy and agitated for him, so he avoids them.

• He loves flowers, all kinds of flowers. He likes their colors, their smells. They are all beautiful to him. Red roses, lilies, hyacinths and chrysanthemums are his favorites.

Through The Ages Collab - Sam (Assyrian Empire 932-612BCE) and Ponk (Persian Empire 550-330BCE)

DEFINITELY didn't panic and decide to completely redo my project as a painting the night before 😖👍

Here, they're both dressed as (hyperbolic) kings of their time.

(Pay no notice to the fact that the time periods are in direct succession and the Persians *definitely* didn't conquer the Caldeans and Ponk *definitely* wouldn't have killed Sam they're besties okay nodders)

Ponks outfit looks like red, white, and black, but it's actually red, white, and (very dark) blue! In ancient Persia, each class wore a different color - the priests wore white, the military wore red, and the farmers wore blue. The king wore a combination of the three for the combination of social classes that he represented!

Sam is wearing a felt mitre(fancy hat) with fringed woolen lapets (that's what's coming over his shoulder, they're attached to the hat) and a tiara with carnelian (cough redstone) inlays. His staff is also meant to have a "redstone" head, and the head of ponks is meant to be a lemon! All noblemen had a staff that would be carved full of things to represent them.

The robes or drapery you typically think of when thinking of ancient Mesopotamia are called "Kaunakes". The longer your kaunakes, or robes, are, the higher class you are (because you can afford more fabric!) I really meant to make Sams kaunake even longer, but eh details get lost sometimes.

We tend to think of "ancient clothing" as having been threadbare and brown. This is mostly because of the few representations we have (figurines and wall carvings, etc, because almost no clothing survives from that period), all the paint has come off! In reality their clothing (the high class at least) was extremely colorful, and tended to be full of bright patterns, to the piont that we would think of it as extremely tacky today.

Basically all "ancient Mesopotamian fashion" is Drapes+Gold+FRINGE!!!=high class. They like. REALLY liked fringe. And Gold. And draping. But otherwise the combinations were honestly quite endless! Especially with the Persians, they were well known for adopting any adjacent cultures clothing into thier fashion, so Persia had a particularly diverse range of clothing styles!

I really liked doing this project, I was kinda shocked with how much I learned! There's a surprising amount of information and also a surprisingly little amount of information on ancient Mesopotamian clothing, mostly because like. None of it survives lol.

Tell me about that one book/movie/tv show you know all the words to. OOOH okay SO theres this book called Just Ash by Sol Santana, and the main character is intersex!! ive only ever once seen an intersex character in a piece of media, and that was 7 years ago. Just Ash kinda details the struggles that some intersex people can go through, and i learned a lot because of it (i didnt even know that salt wasting was a thing before reading this book). Just Ash also inspired me to start doing research on disabilities that arent as well-known throughout the world, such as scoliosis or ostomy.

Oh, this is easy peasy lemon squeezy. If you’re an autistic person with a love of lore and stories, there’s no better match for you than Guy, our resident storyteller!

One, we love an A4A relationship, and Guy has got to be the dictionary picture of an AuDHD dude, you know? I’m not gonna lie- I don’t super know what this song means, and neither would Guy. I do know that it’s fun, it’s a love song, it’s indie rock, and it’s a classic. This strikes me as the type of song that Guy knows all the words and can perform without a second thought, thus he loves turning it up and singing it at you whenever it comes on in the car.

Runner-Ups:

David is a runner-up for you because I love A4A pairings, and David is my favorite Redacted boi to headcanon as autistic after Guy. last movie/show: I watched Princess Mononoke two nights ago (rent me asunder), and I've been catching up on the capaldi/whittaker years of doctor who since i want to watch the new season

flavor: i really like citrus across all categories, lemon and lime and orange specifically. which i guess is like most of the citrus options lol. and for savory stuff i also like it sour, i cook with a lot of lemon/lime juice and vinegar. also sriracha my beloved i like spicy stuff

Ayo yo drop the recipe that looks absolutely delicious

oh shit UHHHHHHH okay i'll try but I'm a bad teacher so I can't promise good results

Things you'll need:

Rice

Lemon

A neutral flavor oil (I use Canola but your vegetable oil of choice is fine)

Soy sauce

Yakisoba sauce

So first you're gonna make like glutinous/sushi/idk fuckin sticky rice. Dry shit ain't gonna cut it, you gotta have it hold shape. I use Nishiki typically but your brand of choice is fine? I guess? If you can't make rice there are tutorials for that online, please use those

Once the rice is done, scoop some aside so it'll cool more quickly. You want it warm but not steaming before you handle it so let cool. When it comes to forming the rice balls.... There's tutorials for that too. Sorry this isn't helpful, I just take this shit for granted and don't know how to explain it. If you wanna put stuff in it you can but you can just do plain rice for a snack.

ANYWAY.

While the rice is cooling, wash a lemon thoroughly and cut it in half. Using a zester/fine shredder, zest some of the lemon peel (this is why you wash since you'll be using the exterior).

Okay this is where the measurements aren't exact so you may need to adjust to taste.

Combine... 2 tbsp soy sauce, and a splash (maybe a teaspoon?) Of yakisoba sauce. Put some of the zest into the mixture (not like all of it, but enough to be evenly dispersed). Cut a couple slices off the half lemon, then squeeze the juice of what remains into the sauce mixture. Mix well. Set to the side. Also if you have a brush for sauces get that shit out you'll want it. Silicone preferred but not required.

In a pan (make sure it doesn't have stuff burnt on the bottom, the rice will stick to burnt shit, happened to a friend of mine and it's honestly just sad), put... Idk a half tablespoon? Of canola oil and set to a medium heat. Take your formed riceballs and set in pan. You don't want to turn them too often or else you might break shape. I use chopsticks to move them, but gently using tongs is probably fine? Anyway, fry each side until it gets a goldeny color.

Once each side has a bit of a golden crust to it, turn the heat to low. You're gonna grab your sauce mixture and silicone brush, and brush on the sauce til all surfaces are coated. Continue to turn in the pan until you get a brown crust on all surfaces(this is why I use the yakisoba sauce, it cooks down nicely imo)

Once satisfactorily cooked, set aside. If you want to add seaweed for holding now would be the time to do that. Or don't I'm not your boss.

Use the slices of lemon you cut off earlier for garnish/ squeeze over top if you want idk

Texture should be crispy on the outside and normal rice on the inside, should have kind of a salty umami flavor but the lemon does brighten it up so Larry was not completely full of shit.

I have no idea if any of that made sense but it's how my brain does cooking 😎👍

Figured I might as well dump my ideas out here, if anyone wants to steal these, so here goes:

TMNT ideas (inspired by music) that I don’t have time to work on, looking for a good home ✨

1. A Raph crossover animatic set to Wrecking Ball by Mother Mother

All the Raphs join up and go to a wreck room, or an old building they can thoroughly obliterate.

Rise Raph originally supervises, like “hah thank goodness I don’t have issues like this, I can just be the responsible one and make sure no one gets hurt”

And then he proceeds to have a flashback to when he was krang-ified and couldn’t fight against it and almost killed his brother. And he joins in

And all the other Raphs cheer because they get to watch him use his ninpō

They all go to therapy afterwards 👍

2. A Rise Leo animatic/songfic based on Lie a Little by Confetti

Not much to say here, guy’s repressing his trauma

I will say that I discovered this song through an Undertale animatic and now I feel everyone is sleeping on Rise Leo clearly being a Sans kinnie

3. 2k3 Mikey and Leo bonding moments with Mr. Blue Sky playing in the background

Mr. Blue Sky, in my brain, is such a “from Mikey to Leo” song — it’s the youngest sibling going “well that’s fuckin ridiculous stop being edgy” and the oldest sibling going “oh. Maybe that is a little ridiculous” and they get to be funny together

I think maybe the song follows Leo through all the times he’s gotten messed up, and then pans over to Mikey, trying to cheer his brother up

4. Rise Apritello animatic/AU based on Hot Wings (I Wanna Party) from the Rio movie

AU where Donnie doesn’t know the other turtles and neither does April. Possibly a Separated AU? Do whatever you want <3

Somehow, Donnie and April, two strangers, end up chained together. They now have to find a way to break the chain and go their separate ways.

It’s Donatello, so to prevent the plot from being resolved immediately by his genius, let’s say the chain is magically indestructible in some way. Maybe it’s Draxum’s villainy or whatever

They end up dragged off into the city’s underbelly by friends they make - other mutant turtles - and a big friendly guy named Raph who they originally go to for help breaking the chain brings them to a club where his brothers work. Mikey is the DJ, Leo is a singer (and a drag queen. You know I’m right)

They party and have a good time, and perhaps fall in love <3

The important bit about this to me is colors. Mikey has that one jacket with splotches on it from Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle, everything and everyone is neon and the perspectives are a little tilted at all times!

5. 2k3 Donnie & Mikey concert, they sing Bang Bang by Green Day

That song is just viscerally a tmnt song to me okay

Specifically Donnie and Mikey because I think they’d vent about their brothers through this song

Speaking of them, we start the song by Mikey and Donnie playing the instrumental opening on drums and a guitar, and we see snapshots of Leo and Raph in the city, about to get into a fight

We cut to Mikey for the start of the song, he is INTO IT, he’s singing the main lyrics!

Elsewhere, Raph and Leo get into a fight. It progressively gets harder and harder as it progresses while Donnie and Mikey continue playing, perhaps to an audience? Perhaps there’s people and this is on stage

There is a melody at about 2:15 in the song where I think Mikey summons his dragon spirit, just for the effect of it, just for the drama.

Raph and Leo see the light of it from all the way across the city, and start heading there, jumping over rooftops, racing each other with smiles

Donnie sings the “hoorah” while Mikey interrupts with “BANG BANG!” in the background

6. Silly goofy Rise Mikey set to Eighth Wonder by Lemon Demon

Genuinely just a Mikey tribute. I think this song very well describes him as a cryptid and a mutant but still as a very neat little guy

He celebrates being the way he is, and it rubs off on his brothers as well. He’s a sunshine :)

Honorary mentions:

Infinitesimal by Mother Mother — a Donatello crisis. About what and which Donatello? Yes.

Teenagers scare the shit out of me by MCR — just turtles kicking ass and someone (possibly one of the villains) realizing that they’ve been just kids this whole time.

The pitiful children from Be More Chill — 2k3 Oroku Saki trying to convince Leo to join him, in that one early episode. Bonus points if Leo does join him or someone else gets messed up during the song.

Family by Mother Mother — honestly just a massive crossover of the turtles defending each other, brother or not. They all have to stick together.

Trying Too Hard (specifically the Thomas Sanders cover) — 2k3 turtle angst. Everyone is stuck in their own head and sad. That is all.

You’re Not Welcome by Naethan Apollo — unhinged 2k3 Donnie or 2k3 Mikey. I think there should be more art of them being threatening, as a treat!
