Going to watch a movie with the slashers

Jason Voorhees

- Jason would want to watch a good'ol romantic comedy (bonus points if its a musical)

- so probably Hairspray (2007), a very heart warming feel good movie is just what he wants

- he will sneek in so many snacks for the both of you, and he'll get away with it cause what cinema security guard is gonna stop him?

- anytime he recognises a scene, actor, or line he will point at the screen (like that one meme)

- he'll be ok with talking here and there especially if it's fun facts about the movie

- will become addicted to the popcorn, but in his defence who wouldn't

- he will start watching movies more but only if your there to watch it with him <3

Michael Myers

- he likes his dramatic horrors, or anything that messes with your brain like a psychological thriller

- so any A24 film or the shinning, he likes to think he's got a real sophisticated taste in movies, he probably does

- I don't think he'd be a huge popcorn fan but he will enjoy seeking in candy and boy will he smuggle alot

- and yet he won't share it 😔, unless you two are close then he'll feel bad

- he will watch the movie in total silence and will cover your mouth anytime you try to speak

- he will listen to your ranting thoughts about the movie afterwards tho

Lester, Bo and Vincent Sinclair (its easierto just group them together)

- Lester he is a D.C and marvel fan, he loves all the original avengers and he does have a superman bumper-sticker

- Bo will watch any action or old Western (bonus points if its a comedy) (i dont watch those kinds of movies so idk what to suggest)

- vincent says he likes very sophisticated movies (mainly any movie with Leonardo DiCaprio) but he loves Disney, they're his comfort films (especially wall-E)

- they can never agree on a film so ur best bet is to pick one at random and go with it

- there's a movie theatre in Ambrose so u dont have to worry about trying to sneak stuff in

- Lester is a loud laugher who will throw popcorn at the screen when he dosnt like a scene

- Bo is normally quite but he'll nudge and smile at u when there's an inappropriate scene

- Vincent has alot of body language when watching movies, he'll lean closer when interested and pull back when frightened

- and afterwards they'll talk about the movie for the rest or the day, and refrence it through the week

Ghostface (billy and stu)

- they would want to watch a horror, any super gory movies with alot of cheep jump-scares

- so any of the other slashers films

- Billy won't eat any candy u try to sneak in but he'll still help, he would be more interested in popcorn which he will want to share with you

- Stu sees seeking in candy as a competition to see how much can u smugle in before your caught, he won't even eat it all in the end he just wants to prove he can

- Stu can't sit still for the life of him, he's gonna be laughing, crying, talking to you, poking you to get your attention only to say he needs to use the toilet real quick

- Billy knows the real show is watching Stu annoy you but he'll be upset if means he misses some big reveal or plot point

- afterwards Stu will compare you to the charters with a surprising amount of accuracy considering he was gone for most of the film

Brahms Heelshire

- he wants his Disney/ pixar films, he has the mind set of "if it's not animated I don't want to watch it"

- idk if he would leave the house to go to a cinema, but for the sake of this u were able to drag him out of his crusty manner

- he would try and sneak candy in but fail, the gaurds would notice and confront him but won't force him to give up the candy (Brahms is a scary man)

- he is very touchy when watching a movie, crying into your shoulder when sad, and shaking you violently when there's a twist

- but he's having the time of his life, this is all new grounds for him and he loves it

- but now u have to get him out of the cinema and take him home, this is the real challenge

Freddy Krueger

- man's likes his dirty movies, but he's also a perosn who appreciates the classics

- but he will turn down his horny for u and settle on 'the girl next door' (2004)

- he will point out every sexual innuendo and even make a few

- he is like a dad when watching a movie, he will ask so many questions that are explained if he just watches the film

- he will rat on u sneaking in candy so he isn't caught

- even with his own food he will steal yours

- after the movie he will forget everything that he just watched, is it just to annoy you? Is he just old? No one knows

Thomas Hewitt

- he would like studio ghibli, their movies are sweet enough to be comforting whiles being mature enough to not feel like a kids film

- he won't try to sneak in candy cause he's afraid of getting caught but he won't stop you (so make sure u bring enough for 2)

- he will really like popcorn and constantly getting up to get another box

- he would hush you if you try to talk throughout the film, he will feel bad but he does really just want to watch the movie

- afterwards he will more then happily listen to u gush over the film

- he will get emotional and while he won't openly cry he will hold your hand when it get close to it

Blind Sight - A Retrospective

Includes spoilers for the entirety of Tales of Leonardo: Blind Sight, as well as discussion of suicidal ideation, depression, and other sensitive topics. Some of the panels included might be considered gory as well. I'm also writing this with the assumption that you're familiar with what happens in the story.

I'd like to begin this little think piece of mine with a disclaimer; I'm going to be fairly vulnerable with this, as this is a piece of writing that impacted me greatly for a variety of reasons. Let's get into it.

The beginning to Blind Sight really begins with the 5th issue of the second volume to Tales of the TMNT - Blind Faith. I think it's very bittersweet that the story begins with Leo comforting a small Shadow who's still afraid of the dark, because it's a good way of setting the stage and tone for this story. Phobias and fears are typically irrational, and we're afraid not just of what we can't see, but what can happen because of that. They can control us because we let it fester and grow, losing ourselves to that fear.

When Leo loses his sight in this story, he has to be confronted with the fact that life won't be the same. He doesn't think he can lead or protect his brothers anymore, and he doesn't have control, either. He's very much someone that prefers information to be clear and concise with no punches pulled. He needs facts, and he relies on his senses and logic.

I know Jim Lawson has been praised plenty for making everything monochrome to show how Leo cannot see and no longer remembers what things look like, but his prose doesn't get enough attention, in my opinion.

There's a lot I admire about this entire story, especially the moment in which Leo believes he has taken an innocent life. There's nothing dramatic about it, as Leo isn't the type to have some over-the-top reaction. He freezes, mouth partly agape, as he takes in the fact that this could be permanent and that he has lost the ability to do the only thing he considers himself good at. It's such a subtle display of grief, and I love it.

Really, there's not much I can say about the actual event where he's blinded, and it's not what I want to focus on, either. I want to highlight the aftermath:

This scene really gets to me because we, as the viewer, only have Leo's perspective. There's nothing to see, just a black and white landscape of shapes. I think it's a good display of the dissonance between the brothers here. Mikey's trying his hardest to find some positives, or to at least not make his brother feel different. Leo, however, wants none of it; his grief is narratively blinding him in this story, and this scene is meant to show that. He's saying he still enjoys it up here, but it's a lie. It's a lie because instantly when he's alone, Leo begins to have Thoughts.

With these pages, it's clear that Leo considers himself to be his swords, in a sense. He's a weapon - his whole life has revolved around defending and protecting. After all, Splinter raised them with a single purpose; revenge. But revenge is what led to him losing his sense of purpose to begin with, so even then, what good is he? What purpose does he serve now that he can't fight like he used to? If something is broken, you throw it away; nobody has use for something that can't even do the thing you have it for. At least, this is the idea he's subscribed to here.

Now, Leo is definitely no stranger to depression in the original Mirage series. Hell, I'd argue that Mirage Leo was really the blueprint for IDW Leo, who has a similar goofiness contrasted with these types of melancholic monologue to him. He's so fixated on what he no longer has that he can't even get past it. To him, he's as good as dead. It's harsh to say, but I think he's having such a huge identity crisis that a part of him doesn't even want to try. He's just... So tired.

Of course, I'm sure he'd give everything to be able to fight again, but that's for his brothers. When it comes to people that need control, sometimes the scariest thing is realizing that your control wasn't actually ever needed. He fights for his brothers, but what if they don't need him protecting them? He could fight again, but he wouldn't forgive himself if it hurt and endangered them. He'd also be hurt if they did well without him, though.

After the incident in which they are forced to go to Northampton, Leo isn't in a coma at all. He becomes testy and goes out into the woods to hunt and be alone, scarcely seen by anyone else. He's more closed off here than in 2003 & 2012 and never seems to really talk. He sort of gets past it when Raph ends up being nearly killed by the Shredder, but my point here is that Leo seems to have a lot of identity problems.

He couldn't protect his brothers or April then, so he hunts. What's interesting about that is the fact animals are good at sensing enemies and tracking their prey, similar to how the Shredder herded Leo to where he needed him for the ambush (I wrote a little fic about this too teehee).

Anyway, it's clear that Leo prides himself on maintaining order. Any setback can cause him to spiral because of his need for control.

I think that's why this conversation scares Mikey so much, basically insinuating to their other brothers that he's genuinely afraid of Leo killing himself, directly or passively it doesn't matter. His fears aren't unwarranted, either.

Now, it's revealed that this ^^^ is just an intrusive daydream of Leo's, but still. Up on the radio tower, he imagines what it would be like to fall off, his own weapon piercing through him. This, to me, is very deliberate. He's the weapon, defending his family, but also ruining the lives of others, bad or not. His sword blinded the one that retaliated and blinded him back, which may as well have sealed his fate and killed him. Also, doesn't this seem a tad bit similar to seppuku? In that he's killed by his own blade? Seppuku is seen as the only way to regain honor in the afterlife...

The resemblance is meant to be there, I think, because what are the odds his katana is able to break through the concrete with the force of its fall and be blade side up long enough for him to be impaled by it? I suppose it can happen, but I think it just shows how Leo isn't his usual, rational self right now.

(I think it's also interesting in his little daydream that he doesn't imagine himself jumping off. He can't quite bring himself to do it, so instead of stepping off himself, he goes out of his way to picture one of the rungs snapping, leading him to fall. Now, on a meta level this could be a bit of a diversion tactic to scare you and make it feel real, but ehh. I think it can go both ways).

Anyways, he imagines his death in gruesome, visceral detail, to the point he wonders if his death would cause the death of his family as well. His leaps in logic are irrational. Because really, what are the chances there's a special mineral from the sewers embedded in his feet, leading to government agents finding the lair and killing his family?

This is the scene I really wanted to talk about, as I find it to be one of the most brutal and realistic depictions of depression. Later on in this series, Leo basically implies that there's plenty of ways he can die, and they're all preventable. All he needs is a reason to do so (keep them from happening), but he currently doesn't have one.

I think it's the same thing here.

He's looking for a reason to step off the tower - either to jump, or to walk away and go back home. He doesn't need some grand sign, he just needs a reason. So, he considers what it would be like, to die. But he can't even go through with it all the way because then he imagines Raph dying because of his decision. This is what finally causes him to snap out of it, choosing to abandon his katana.

Even when contemplating death, his family is still the reason he keeps going. He needed a reason to live, and imagining his brother(s) dying is what did it. He weaponized his own intrusive thoughts to live. His own death didn't scare him, but his family did.

Yet, a piece of him still clearly dies, as depicted by him throwing away his sword. He doesn't want to be the weapon anymore, but he's not too sure what he is without it. He wants to make a point that he's more than the weapon. However, you can read him dropping his katana as him giving up, thinking he only kills and is no longer worthy of trying to protect. Not after killing an innocent man.

He doesn't directly kill his brother, but I don't think that matters to Leo. Not when he internalizes mistakes.

Never before have I seen intrusive thoughts depicted this way, or even suicidal ideation, really. It's....not quite comforting, but makes me feel seen, you know? Sometimes it's not really the happy thoughts that keep you going, but your own fear twisted in a way that fits your narrative.

The fact the first issue just ends with this ^ page is also so.... We don't get to see him actually step off, because a part of him never leaves. It's still there, not sure which direction to go.

Self-blame is both a canon and widely fanon aspect to Leo's character. By that I mean the portrayal feels a bit fanon, as I don't think Leo's perfectionist personality is really explored until Vol. 2 of the original series (although there is the Northampton arc...) It's definitely there, don't get me wrong, but it's more like his self-blame comes from a place of grief and fear. I think this panel might make it clear what I mean?

These deaths were because he lost his autonomy, blindly killing without being able to do a thing to stop it. He blames himself for everything, but I don't think he trains relentlessly to be perfect or to necessarily protect people the best he can. I think he's scared of doing the opposite. It takes more control to not kill a person than it does to do so, in a way. Anyone can kill another, but having the skill to pull back and merely disarm an enemy whilst protecting yourself and others is marginally harder.

But he's having a hard time knowing if it was worth it, pulling his punches. If he had killed the Foot soldier that blinded him, he wouldn't be feeling like this now. He wouldn't be unable to help his family (as he has been blind for months by this point I believe?) like he currently feels like he is. He was trained since birth to kill the Shredder, just to suddenly have to save people. That's a very different thing!

Splinter literally started their ninja training the second they began walking and copying his movements. He trained them for revenge, just for them to have to be vigilantes as the time calls for it.

I think what I'm really getting at here is that he's more than just angst; he can be silly and bossy just because, too (Leo is such a bossy older brother). But his fear manifests in the urge to do his best, and really a lot of his angst is self-made.

It's not just "I have to be perfect", or "I'm trying to keep you safe." It's something more, though I lack the proper words to describe it... It's almost like he wants to bear the burden in the case a scenario just like this one happens. If being the best means facing the worst, so be it. Hopefully that makes sense...

I want to get more into how IDW Leo and Mirage Leo feel very one-in-the-same to me, but I think that's an essay for another time. It's just very important to me for you to know that Leo often questions his devotion to Splinter in the original comics.

Not only does he say things like this, but in this story, when Splinter pushes him down the hill in the woods and forces him to find his way back home while blind, all Leo says is: "I knew it." He didn't expect his father to outright help him or to offer sympathies. He just accepted that he was going to have to look inside himself and solve this psychosomatic matter. Just another example of Leo internalizing the idea that hurt is all in his head...

He stated "You think I'm crazy." when Splinter suggested he was keeping himself blind, as well. It wasn't a question, and that, to me, really showcases that all Leo's have daddy issues /hj.

Anyways, sorry that this was mostly incoherent and didn't serve too much of a purpose. I really just wanted an excuse to get people to read Blind Sight... well, and to talk about the scene in which Leo imagines endangering his family because of his actions.

The media the 87 turtles like both as a whole and as individuals says some really interesting things about them. Things which I'm about to overthink.

First off, when it's all of them the media of choice is monster movies. Kaiju, creatures and aliens all included.

They seem to identify with the monsters more than the heroes despite being fairly heroic themselves. They have a special fondness for turtle-monsters and avoid any monsters that remind them too much of their enemies (The Brain from Dimension X for instance).

Which makes sense! They remember being helpless animals, the fantasy of being huge and powerful and scary to humans is a valid one and it gives them a chance to let off some steam in their imagination when they wouldn't hurt anyone in real life.

Donatello really likes Film Noir, at one point quoting Dirty Harry, and reads an expy of The Dark Knight Returns (The MidKnight Crusader).

Donatello's a turtle with a lot of aggression that he tries to keep at least somewhat buried. He's often too blunt or indifferent without intending to be so he tries not to be deliberately mean as well. He also stays within the lines for dealing with enemies but against enemies where it's less clear what the lines are he can be ruthless - throwing lit dynamite after a nightmare spirit, torturing an AI for information, and leaving an energy being to be eternally bounced between two satellites.

It makes sense that he fantasises about people who don't have to try to tone themselves down to be part of a team. Lone wolves who do what needs to be done and get results.

Raphael likes game shows and stand up comedy, but also art films. At one point he teases Michelangelo that he'll have to get into opera since he can't get the comic series he wants, which might or might not imply an interest in opera.

Raphael's preferences for media are eclectic, but it strikes me that the things he watches on his own don't really contain violence. He's happy to watch monster movies alongside his friends, but on his own that's not what he goes for. (He also responds to Leonardo feeling sick during a gory dinosaur movie by assuming that's what's causing it and teasing Leonardo, which makes me think maybe he's the one that finds it a bit much.)

He's willing to fight when necessary (as long as he's sure it's necessary) but on his own Raphael doesn't care much for physical violence.

Michelangelo does go for monster movies on his own, even if they sometimes give him nightmares. He's had to be torn away from a couple he was watching by himself. He's also the only one who seems interested in a series where the focus is on the hero fighting the monsters and the monsters are regularly defeated - Michelangelo is the turtle who most likes humans and is happy to identify with them.

He reads a lot of comics, which seem to be more traditionally heroic as opposed to Donatello's interest in the grittiest Batman take, although his favourite one is about Bugman who could be considered a mutant like them, or at least like Splinter.

There's also a mean chat show focused around putting people the host doesn't approve of "on trial", which has vibes of "Michelangelo, why?" but I guess he likes to sit back and watch the drama.

Leonardo loves Samurai movies and remains convinced that everything they do was possible in ancient Japan (although circumstances seem to prove him right). He's the most interested in their Japanese heritage through Splinter and always interested in martial arts.

He also wants to watch kickboxing, making him the only one of them interested in watching sports.

There's also literature with Leonardo the only one of them to seem interested in reading much - starting with The Three Musketeers. Once again it's about swords. I suspect it's also about the intense friendship, fighting alongside one another, and "all for one" element. These turtles don't think of themselves as brothers, so Leonardo doesn't quite have a word for what they are. I can imagine he's looking at the musketeers going "that's us! we're that!" when he didn't have a model for it before.

Beep boop another idea:

A Tmnt story based off this that is far more gory and grim dark than most of the other iterations. Basically an ‘evil turtle’ AU where Splinter raised the turtles as ‘true ninja’ (ie evil assassins with no empathy or compassion) and this is the evil that transpired. Splinter raised the turtles in merciless attitude and together the clan not only killed the shredder, but took over the city. Splinter became too powerful and eventually abandoned the turtles (not seeing them as sons in this world) and became an evil lord ruling over New York. Karai, after escaping the city, tries to retire in peace but is brought back by Leonardo, her close friend, asking for help to take down Splinter and return the city to stability. She helps him, and they kill splinter only for Leonardo to betray her and try to take over the city himself. Karai ends up killing Leonardo, but not without being blinded in one eye and lashed across her face with twin katana. Raphael, not knowing what his brother did (not being present) vows vengeance on his brothers killer and hunts down karai and tries to kill her. A disabled Michelangelo (seizures, wheel-chair bound, missing a leg) stops Raphael from doing so, only for karai to end up killing Raphael and fleeing, leaving Donnie and Michelangelo to flee back to the city while karai vows vengeance on all those who helped Leonardo back in the city, though she feel mercy for Michelangelo for freeing her. Returning to the city, she takes her vengeance at the cost of the city and Donatello ends up dying in the crossfire. Mikey, now a lone and and broken hearted child (14/15) is adopted by Jennika and Leatherhead, who guide mikey in taking down Karai.

Pistoia, il Festival del Giallo torna quest’anno per la sua XIII° edizione

Pistoia, il Festival del Giallo torna quest’anno per la sua XIII° edizione   Il XIII° Festival del Giallo a Pistoia, dal 14 al 17 aprile prossimo, ha come tema “Raccontare il crimine, raccontare la legalità”. Tanti ospiti, quasi trenta scrittori, del panorama letterario italiano, ma anche con presenza dall’estero. I luoghi del Festival del Giallo saranno a Pistoia, con eventi al Teatro Bolognini, al Teatro Manzoni, nella Sala Maggiore del Palazzo comunale, nell’Auditorium Terzani della Biblioteca San Giorgio. Il Festival si aprirà venerdì 14 aprile, alle 9.30, nella Sala Maggiore del Palazzo comunale, con una tavola rotonda dal titolo “Raccontare la legalità”, moderata da Antonella Mollica, giornalista del Corriere Fiorentino, a cui prederanno parte il magistrato Christine Von Borries, il presidente della Fondazione Caponnetto Salvo Calleri e l’avvocato Andrea Niccolai del Foro di Pistoia. Nel pomeriggio di venerdì, Walter Veltroni, politico, giornalista, scrittore e regista, alle 17.30, in Biblioteca San Giorgio, sarà intervistato da Luca Crovi, scrittore, redattore della Sergio Bonelli Editore. Alle 20 al cinema Lux a Pistoia ci sarà la proiezione di “Quando”, il nuovo film di Walter Veltroni, tratto dall'omonima opera letteraria dello stesso regista, anche autore della sceneggiatura insieme a Doriana Leondeff e Simone Lenzi, distribuito da Vision Distribution; interpreti principali Neri Marcorè e Valeria Solarino. Walter Veltroni interverrà alla proiezione per salutare il pubblico in  sala. La stessa sera di venerdì, alle 20.30 è in programma una cena con gli ospiti del Festival al ristorante di Villa Cappugi, aperta al pubblico; per le prenotazioni il telefono è 333 7350637. Altro ospite attesissimo Lirio Abbate, giornalista antimafia, caporedattore di Repubblica, autore di cinema, radio e tv. Combatte da sempre per la legalità attraverso le sue inchieste giornalistiche; sabato 15, alle 10, in Biblioteca San Giorgio, parlerà sul tema “Crimini e comunicazione” insieme a Antonio Fusco, funzionario del Ministero dell’Interno e scrittore. Domenica, con inizio alle 10, in Biblioteca San Giorgio si svolgerà il Laboratorio di fumetti a cura di Igor Beneforti e Raffaele Posulu, è la seconda edizione di Yellow Kid per ragazzi da 10 ai 15 anni e per partecipare occorre prenotarsi con una mail a corsi.sangiorgio@comune.pistoia.it Sabato 15 aprile, alle 21 al Piccolo Teatro Bolognini, a ingresso libero sarà in scena lo spettacolo teatrale: “Le panne” di Friederich Durrenmatt” con protagonisti la Compagnia Teatrale Il Rubino per la regia di Dora Donarelli. Domenica 16, dalle 10, si procederà alla premiazione del concorso tra tre autori di romanzi gialli, sottoposti ad una giuria di giovani lettori; nella stessa mattina avrà luogo anche la premiazione del concorso “Investigatori a scuola”. La giornata conclusiva di lunedì 17 vedrà, al teatro Manzoni, un incontro organizzato con la Consulta Provinciale degli Studenti, sul tema “Riflessioni e parole contro le mafie” aperto agli studenti e alla cittadinanza, a cui prenderanno parte il dottor Gian Carlo Caselli, il professor Enzo Ciconte e il Tenente Colonnello Edoardo Marzocchi della D.I.A. di Firenze. Il Presidente del Consiglio Regionale Antonio Mazzeo interverrà alla manifestazione per portare un saluto.   Da martedì 11 e fino al 29 aprile è allestita nella Biblioteca San Giorgio una mostra per ricordare Luca Boschi, pistoiese, esperto internazionale di fumetti, scomparso circa un anno fa e curata da Pierluigi Gaspa. Titolo della mostra “DA PISTOIA A PAPEROPOLI... E RITORNO!” Figura di spessore internazionale, Luca Boschi ha mantenuto un rapporto costante con la sua città (e dintorni), realizzando disegni e campagne sociali, partecipando a incontri e convegni, e operando anche nella scuola. La mostra presenta alcuni esempi di un'attività che si è svolta nell'arco di un quarantennio. Nei quattro giorni del Festival, il loggiato del Palazzo Comunale in Piazza Duomo sarà illuminato con il colore giallo, per ricordare l’evento. Sono oltre 40 le aziende del centro storico che hanno aderito all’iniziativa, promossa in collaborazione con l’Amministrazione comunale e con Confcommercio Pistoia e Prato, di collocare nell’interno o in una vetrina, un espositore che presenta il Festival, unitamente ad alcuni romanzi gialli.   «Questo evento si dimostra sempre più un festival per la città, con la città – sottolinea Gabriele Sgueglia, assessore alle attività produttive del Comune di Pistoia -. La novità di quest’anno è il coinvolgimento delle attività commerciali del nostro territorio, che aiuteranno ad avvicinare le persone alla lettura e a promuovere la manifestazione, i libri e le realtà più giovani coinvolte nelle attività. It is an experimental film that uses live shots processed through digital technology to echo the graphic work of Viani, painter, sculptor printmaker whose etchings exhibit a rare expressive power; it tells the story of Angelo Bertuccelli, who was born in Via Pinciana in Viareggio in 1850. Small of stature with a strong and proud character trapped in a deformed body. Sailor, like the majority of the inhabitants of the Viareggio of those days, who escaped the gail-winds aboard the “Dedalo” and swore never to return to the sea. The “sailor of the Ocean” spends his days in increasing isolation far from the pettiness of people who laugh at his grotesque appearance. In a whirlwind of desperation and rebellion the dwarf with the heart of a giant will end his days overcome by the tides of madness, a man drowned in a deep sea “a man of water” as prescribed by a hostile destiny. Based on the novel “Angiò uomo d’acqua” by Lorenzo Viani.
