Honorary Yeti
Frostbite is Leslie Thompkins teacher and inspiration, how this happened? When she was a kid, she fall through a natural portal and ended in Far Frozen, the Yetis were scary until they offered a warm blanket and hot chocolate.
Because she was just a little girl she marveled at everything she was looking at, it seemed so new and shiny. But what attracted her the most was seeing one of the Yetis explaining how to correctly apply a bandage, saving the life of a bright blue being.
Everything was like a dream, with the Yetis starting to teach her everything they did, her learning how to deal with "ghosts" and "liminals", although the latter seemed to be very rare, but no one explained to her correctly what she was learning.
Frostbite was the one who explained everything about medical knowledge to her, and she wanted to be a doctor. However, after waking up in her bed, everything seemed like a dream, and even if she doubted it was, who would believe that her greatest inspiration was a Yeti?
More precisely, this inspired her to learn all possible medical fields, and to become accessible to everyone who needed it.
When the rumored "Great One" she saw in her dreams visited Gotham City with an injury, she was prepared.

"Have fun tonight." Your boyfriend, Theo, smiles, "Call me if you need a ride home."
You lean of the window, pecking his lips with yours, "I will, thank you." You smile and sit back, waving to him at your friend, Kya, backs out of the driveway.
"So." She says with a smirk as she starts to drive, "Seems to be going well, don't you think?"
You shrug, a light blush growing on your cheeks, "You can say that." You shrug, "I mean, these last few months, they've been great, but at the same ti-"
"Don't do that." She cuts you off as she shakes her head.
You look at her confused, "Don't do what?"
"Don't do what you always do. Don't look for things to escape. Theo is a great guy.." she lays her hand over her mouth, muffling her words, "Better than the last."
You laugh as you catch what she says, "Yeah, let's not talk about him." You roll your eyes, trying not to think about him, "Theo is a great guy."
"That - whatever that was.." she blows air, "Situationship.. was an absolute disaster." She tills her eyes, "If I see him, I might just punch him."
"Please. It might knock some common sense into him." You shake your head slightly, "He was just an asshole."
But he wasn't a total asshole the whole time.
You felt like there could have been more, should have been more, but he didn't want labels. He didn't want to 'settle down' as he said.
He treated you like a queen, but only when it was just the two of you.
When you confessed that you were catching feelings, mainly to try and save your feelings, which utterly failed in the end, he turned into someone you never thought he would be.
A ghost, figuratively that is.
You didn't hear from him for weeks after, but conveniently right when word got out that you were seeing Theo, you got a text from him, stating a single, ‘Hey’.
But you ignored it.
You had a good thing with Theo, but at the same time, you weren't feeling the passion, the heat, like you were with him.
You knew it was wrong, but you couldn't pinpoint the exact reason as to why you were suddenly missing him, either.
Maybe because what you and him had was secret?
Maybe because it was mainly about sex, and he was really, really good at it?
Who knows, but you needed to get him off of your mind as soon as possible, especially because you want things to progress with Theo.
"Do you think he'll be here tonight?" You look over at Kya and she shrugs, "Doubt it. He's probably leading on some other bimbo-" she looks at you, quickly following up, "Not that you were or are a bimbo, I just-"
You hold your hand up, "I understand, Ky." You laugh slightly, "But I was for falling for him. I should have known."
"We live and we learn." She parks the car, "Now let's go have some fun." She raises her brows as she pulls the keys from the ignition.
You follow her in through the gate, eyes scanning over the slow growing party.
You smile as you see some of your friends, waving as you dance next to them as you move past to make your way into the house.
"You made it!" Leslie squeals as she runs up to you and Kya, "I'm so glad you're here!"
"Thanks for the invite! We love your parties." You smile and look around. She laughs, "Thanks. I love throwing them."
"I'm going to go get a drink, y/n. You coming?" Kya taps your arm and you look at her, "Yes, please."
.·:*¨ ✘ ¨*:·.
A few drinks and bit of unwinding later, you're sat on the small couch in the corner with a few friends around you.
"Y/n." Leslie nudges your knee from the floor, "How's Theo?" She smirks and the others lean in to listen.
You smile, "We're good. He’s good.." You take a sip of your drink, almost spitting it back into your cup when you see him walk through the door.
"Shit." You whisper to yourself and quickly look around, composing yourself as fast as you can, "Yeah, he's taking me to dinner on Thursday for our five month anniversary."
"That's so sweet." Leslie smiles and lets out a sigh, "I remember when Chase and I first got together, that honeymoon phase never goes away when you're in love with someone you truly love being around everyday."
You kind of ignore them talking. Your focus was mainly on him. You watch as he walks over to the drink area with his friends, smiling that gorgeous smile and laughing that perfect laugh.
He was such a beautiful work of art, and knowing that you couldn't have it actually kind of hurt even more.
You snap back into reality, reminding yourself that you have Theo, and you really liked Theo.
Not as much as him - stop it.
You shake your head, looking over at Kya to try and figure out what they're talking about.
"Isn't that right, y/n?" Kya asks and you blink, "Sorry." You laugh, "What are we talking about?"
"Someone is feeling the alcohol already." She jokes with a laugh, "We were talking about that show that you recommended us. We all love it so far."
"Good Girls? Oh yes. That show is amazing. I'm sad they aren't coming out with another season, they left it with a cliffhanger and I'm still so mad about it." You laugh, taking a sip from your cup.
You finish your drink and rest your arms in your lap, "I'm going to get a drink, anyone else need one?"
"Yeah get me one please." Kya hands you her empty cup and you nod, "What were you drinking?"
"Just get me whatever you're drinking."
You nod and get up, walking over to the drink section. You pour in some liquor, more in your cup than Kya's, before adding some juice.
"Well, well, well."
You close your eyes, taking a quiet deep breath as you set the jug down onto the counter, "What do you want, Colby."
You stay facing away from him, knowing that if you look into his eyes, it'll all go downhill from there.
You tilt your head, thinking that maybe you should. Maybe now's your chance to finally give him a piece of your mind for hurting you.
"Just came to get another drink." He moves next to you and your eyes move over his hand that's rested on the counter as he pours some alcohol into his cup.
"So hey. What's up?" He turns and you look up at him. He chuckles as he takes a sip of his drink, "It's been a while, I know."
"Glad you're aware of that." You raise your brows, picking up the two cups.
"Alright.." he shrugs, ".. Talking about it really isn't my style, but I th-"
You cut him off, "No. no. I'm not.." you sigh, "I have a boyfriend now, Colby."
"I'm aware." Colby sips his drink, "How is Theo, by the way?"
"He's great, actually. I'm super happy with him." You cross your arms, cups still in hand and Colby raises his brows, "Glad to hear it."
You roll your eyes, "what do you really want Colby?" It doesn't occur to you that you already asked him that until it leaves your lips.
"I just thought I'd see what's up, but.." he walks over to you, "I'll just leave you to think about what I really want while I'm lighting up." He winks, taking a few steps away, stopping to turn, "If you still do that, you know where to find me."
"I stopped." You say loud enough for him to hear him. You turn, walking in the opposite direction, "Right when you broke my heart."
You walk back over to your group and Kya sighs, "I was about to send a search party for you. Jesus, I thought you got lost." She sips her drink, groaning as the alcohol touches her tongue, "So good."
"So what did I miss?" You lean back against the couch and look forward, immediately feeling your stomach flip when you see Colby sitting in the patio chair, directly outside of the glass door with the perfect view of you.
Fucking hell.
You pull your phone out, completely ignoring what the girls are filling you in on as you text Theo, Miss you. Wish you were here.
You rest your phone in your lap, crossing your one leg over the other, "No, I seen Janessa the other day, she definitely looked like she had a ring on her finger."
"See! I wasn't the only one!" Leslie says nudging the girl next to her, "Did it look like a big rock?"
You hold your hand out, rocking it back and forth, "Eh. It was a decent size."
Leslie sighs, "All that money and he couldn't afford a decent ring." She scoffs, "I swear if I don't have a big diamond on my hand when the time comes." She laughs, "Kidding. Kidding."
You laugh slightly, running a hand through your hair as your eyes move up to look at Colby again. His eyes are glued on you as he slowly brings the blunt to his lips, inhaling the smoke as he pulls it away.
You want to look away, but this obnoxiously strong hold he - still - has on you, won't allow it.
He tilts his head back, slowly allowing the smoke to leave his lips.
Your phone vibrates in your lap and you tear your eyes away to look down at it. You smile slightly as you read over Theo's text, Miss you too, baby. How's the party going?
You tap the screen, it's alright, just sitting with some friends, nothing too exciting.
You set your phone down, taking a drink. Kya moves in close to you, "I don't.." she clears her throat, lowing her voice to a whisper, "I don't mean to alarm you, but he's here."
"Who?" You play dumb.
She tilts her head, eyes moving in the direction of Colby, "Mr. Situationship." She mumbles through gritted teeth.
"Shut up." You act surprised, "Where?"
"Patio. Smoking with Sam and the others." She lays a hand on your knee, "Are you okay? Do you want to move? Leave? Whatever you want to do."
You lay your hand on hers, "Ky. I'm fine. Promise."
"If you say so." She mumbles moving away. Her attention is quickly taken away by the song that's playing, "Oh I love this song. Come on. Let's dance."
She finishes her drink, looking at you to finish yours. You down your drink, setting it down before standing up.
You couldn't lie, you were feeling pretty good and there was only one person you really wanted to be around right now - And it wasn't the person answering your texts.
Kya takes your hand, lifting them up as she moves her body to the song with a laugh, "I feel so.. happy right now."
"That's the alcohol, my love." You smirk and dance with her, laughing as she dances back to back with you.
Your eyes move to find Colby, who is still sitting on the patio, only this time, his view is blocked by the wall.
You turn away, dancing with Leslie.
For a few songs, you complete forgot about what you were feeling. You felt happy, free, like you can finally breathe for once.
You walk over to the couch, plopping down as you laugh, "I didn't know how much I needed this."
"You deserve it. You've been working hard these last few weeks, you need time to just relax, or take a few shots and party it up." Kya laughs and you sigh, "Is that you saying you want to take shots?"
"Yes!" She laughs, "Come on!"
You get up, following her to the counter. She sits out a few solo cups, only pouring a little bit of liquid in each before looking around to call over Leslie and the other girls.
You knew you were being watched.
You knew that what you wanted to do wasn't good.
But you wanted to get back at him, show him what he lost. Even though your little black dress does a lot, you still wanted to add to it.
"Here's to those who wish us well, all the rest can go to hell." Kya laughs and you all clink the plastic cups together before downing the shots.
"I know I'm working my way to being drunk because that didn't taste as bad as it usually does." Leslie laughs setting her cup down, "Hit us again, Ky."
Your eyes move from the cups, up across the living room scattered with people. But your eyes know who they're looking for, and they find him almost instantly.
Colby's sitting in the chair, calf rested on his other knee. He taps his cup on the arm rest, tilting his head, knowingly getting under your skin.
"It's cold hearted." You mouth to him subtly, hoping he'd pick it up.
And he did, because he mouths back, "what's cold hearted?"
You raise your finger off of the cup Kya gives you, directing it to him, "You."
You turn your attention back to the girls, sighing as you laugh at Leslie gives the cheers this time. You take your shot, closing your eyes as you breathe out, "You picked the strongest liquor?"
"Why not." Kya laughs and wraps her hand around your wrist, "Let's dance again."
"I have to go to the bathroom, but I'll find you after." You sit your cup down, watching as they push their way through the crowd to get to the center of the dance floor.
You laugh, shaking your head as you look around to find the bathroom. You frown, not knowing where they were so you walk up to a random person, "Excuse me.. do you know where the bathroom is?"
The girl smiles and nods, "Yeah, there's one down here, right over there." She points, "..and then there's another one upstairs, second or third door on the right I think."
You smile, "Thank you!"
She gives you another smile before you walk to the bathroom that's downstairs. You knock and there's a girls voice on the other side, "Give me a second."
You could hear giggling, from here and someone else. You sigh, knowing that it won't just be a minute. You turn around, making your way to the staircase.
You walk up, turning to the right and silently counting the doors in your head, "Please be open." You mumble as you bring your hand up to knock.
Before your knuckles can make contact, the door swings open and to your shock, Colby is standing there with a smirk on his face, "So we meet again. Nice."
"If I can just pee in peace, please. That would be nice." You cross your arms, nervous to make eye contact. Colby walks out, motioning to you that the bathroom is all yours.
"Can we talk when you're done?"
You stop closing the door and you look up at him, "Why?" He stares at you, "Because I have some things I want to say."
"Mm. I'll think about it." You close the door, locking it as soon as it latches shut. You rest your hands on the sink looking at yourself in the mirror.
"What am I doing?" You mouth weakly to yourself.
Seeing Colby again, has opening up a new feeling.
Or, reigniting past feelings.
You sit down to pee, mind racing as to what Colby wanted to talk about. You knew you couldn't be alone with him, that's just an ingredient to the disaster recipe.
As you stand up, moving over to wash your hands. As you stare at the water running over your hands, you smirk slightly as your mind starts to replay the last time you and Colby had sex.
You gasp quietly - Theo. You dry your hands, pulling out your phone to see texts from him.
That sounds exciting.
You alright?
I might fall asleep, but just call me if you need a ride home or not. I'll wake up. I promise.
Your slightly drunken heart sinks a little as you tap the screen, Sorry babe, I was dancing with Kya and Leslie. I'll call you when we're ready to leave.
You drop your phone back into your bag and give yourself one last look before opening the door.
Colby is still there, leaning up against the wall. He looks up at you and smiles.
You roll your eyes, "You're so fucking persistent."
"You weren't saying that a few months ago." He smirks and you shake your head, "Colby.." you pause, trying not to let your newly old feelings take over, "I have a boyfriend."
"I know, you've said that already.." He pushes himself off the wall and walks over, "A few times actually."
You shake your head, "It's late.. I need to go."
"Can we just- listen. I'm wired right now, and I just need - look, I know it's late, but I saw your face and got inspired t-"
"Inspired?" You laugh cutting him short, "What does that even mean?"
"Inspired to tell you how I really feel."
"About what?" You chew on the inside of your lip as you look up at him. He moves his finger back and forth from you to him and you nod slowly, "Right, right. But where was this when I told you I how I felt?"
"I wasn't.. I wasn't ready for something serious." He admits.
"You mean, you didn't want to be-" you put air quotes, "- tied down."
He looks at you, moving closer, "Look.. I-"
"Colby." You take a deep breath, batting his rising hand away from your face, "I can't.. do this."
"Do what, y/n?" He asks, tilting his head as he crosses his arms, "Come back to me?"
"I'm past that." You mumble, "I can't just.. I have a boyfriend, Colby."
"You keep saying." He nods, "I'm not asking to fuck. I'm asking to just talk to you. Let you know that seeing your face tonight completely changed how I- well, how I thought I felt about you."
You feel your heart thump in your chest as you don't know what to say. Your eyes search the floor as you sigh, "I have a boyfriend, I let what we had in the past go."
He purses his lips, "Did you?" He chuckles, "Because what you did down there..." he shrugs, "To me, that looked like you wanted my attention."
"I'm just having fun with my friends." You lie with a shrug, "Thats all."
"Well then.." he drops his hands, stepping back as he motions down the hall, "I guess you're good to go, then."
"Mm, like I said. Cold hearted." You go to walk away but he grabs your arm, pulling you back. You scoff and look up at him, pulling your arm away from him, "What the fuck are you doing?"
"Look. Y/n. This is probably going to sound wrong, but just give me one minute .. I promise it won't last long."
You stare up at him, silently giving him a minute to talk.
He slowly moves his body closer to yours, "if we can't go back, you know, to the day that I just-"
"Ghosted me?" You ask raising your brows and he nods, "I just thought you'd like to know something."
You look up and back to him. You should just walk away. Go find Kya and call Theo, but it's like you're frozen in time.
Nothing matters right now but listening to what Colby has to say.
"What?" You slowly look up at him and a smirk toys with his lips, "I just thought you'd like to know that he won't touch you like I would."
You snap your head back, "what?"
He nods, backing you up slowly into the wall, hands on either side of your head, "He won't love you like I would."
"Does he know your body? Because I don't think he truly does." Colby's finger gently drags down over your collar bone and you close your eyes at the touch.
"He doesn't know your body, he don't do you right." He chuckles quietly as he tilts your chin up to force you to look at him, "He won't, he can't."
"You don't know him, Colby." You snap, "You know nothing about him."
Colby's eyes scan over your face, "I just know that he won't love you like I would." His thumb rubs over your bottom lip, smudging your lipstick slightly, "It's okay to want me."
"I ca-"
"Cause I want you." He cuts you off, "I know you've been thinking it over.. you can't lie about that. I know the way it ended wasn't the best, but when we were together, in bed or watching a movie.. it was good. So fucking good."
You tilt your head away, "But I'm through, Colby. I'm through with it. From what it seemed, you didn't want to give me what Theo wanted to. A possible future, public appearances. Fuck, Colby."
You lay your palms on your forehead, "Just. Stop. Stop waiting my time. Stop messing with my fucking head." You move your hands, looking up at him, "That's what I mean when I said you were cold hearted. You have no idea what you do to me."
You duck under his arm, walking towards the steps as you try and fix your smudged lipstick when you suddenly stop.
Your mind racing a mile a minute as you try not to give in to the bad things you know you shouldn't do.
"He won't touch you like I would."
"He won't love you like I would."
"He doesn't know your body, he don't do you right."
"I just know that he won't love you like I would."
You turn around, marching towards him, "where was this three, four months ago when I confessed my love for you? What's was all of this when I was ready to give everything to you?" You're standing so close to him you can smell the liquor on his breath, "Huh!?"
"I-I wasn't ready then."
"But you're ready now? Or ready when you seen that I was done being someone you can booty call at two am when you're lonely and want to get your dick wet. I see."
He stands there, looking down at you as you continue, "all of this.. he won't do this he can't do that like you could, what the fuck. What the actual fuck Colby."
"It's the truth." He shrugs, "I don't know what you want me to say. I'm not lying about it." His hand brushes up your arm and your heads both snap to the stairs as you hear people coming up laughing.
He quickly pushes you against a door, opening it as he pushes you into it.
You stand there, watching as he closes it quickly and quietly, flipping the lock on the knob, "Does he know how much you like to be worshiped?"
You clench your jaw.
"Does he know about the little spot on your neck that you just absolutely love when his tongue runs over it?" He steps closer to you, "does he know that two fingers slipping slowly in and out of that pussy teases the ever loving shit out of you, but you love it so much you can't help but to just endure it?"
He walks over to you, "Does he know how much you love to be bent over, being fucked from behind as you get told how much of a good girl you are for taking him?"
He walks up, tilting your head up to look at him, "Does he know your coffee order? French vanilla with two cream, three sugar?"
You can feel your heart beating faster as your eyes begin to burn - colby did pay attention to you.
"Or what about the movie you can never get sick of? Does he watch that with you every time you come over just to see you smile and hear that beautiful laugh?"
"Do you want me to keep going?" He licks his lips, eyes bouncing between yours, "Tell me to stop, and I'll stop."
You say nothing, curious as to what else he has to say.
"Does he know what little things turn you on?" His hand slides down, slowly squeezing the front of your neck, "Does he know what you don't like?"
He tilts his head, "Your silence tells me that everything I need to know."
"What do you know exactly?" You ask quietly, eyes moving to look at him.
"Exactly what I said." He walks you back wards a few steps and you knees buckle as they hit the edge of the bed, "He don't touch you like I did. Know your body like I do. He doesn't love you like I did, like I do."
You sit down, Colby's hand still on your neck, "Like I said. Tell me to stop and I will." He leans in, slowly closing the space between you.
You rest your fingertips on his cheek, your breathing is rapid, "Colby.." Your voice is quiet, "I-I.."
You so badly want to say no, but you feel like you physically cant, "How do I know you're not just saying these things."
He doesn't say anything for a few moments, his hand releases from your neck as he moves down to kneel in between your knees, "Why would I remember everything about you, the way you liked to be touch, a simple coffee order.. if I wasn't going to try and get you back?"
"All the months, the days that went by Colby.. I just.." you tilt your head back, the burn in your eyes returning.
"I- I loved you, Colby." You look at him, your hand moving to lay on the front of his neck. He tilts his head back, still maintaining eye contact with you as you squeeze slightly, "Why did you make me fall in love with you if you were just going to leave me?"
He places his hands on your cheeks, cupping your face, "I was scared. I was scared to open up completely to someone. The more time I spent with you, the more I let my fear get the best of me."
"You could have just told me that." You shake your head, "I don't.. I don't understand what made it so hard for you to-"
"I don't know either, okay." He says cutting you off, "But I'm telling you now. Right here." He pulls you in, his lips brushing against yours, "Right now."
You close your eyes, "But Theo.."
"Screw him, he doesn't know anything about you." Colby shakes his head, "But I know you."
You knew he was right.
You also knew that he knew what you wanted to do.
"Our situationship ended in a disaster, Colby." You laugh slightly as you look at him, "Maybe not for you. And then the whole, what was it, oh.." you roll your eyes, "yeah, the whole hey message right when it got out I was with Theo."
"I hated seeing you with someone else."
"Why?" Your eyes meet his and he rubs his thumb over your cheek, "Because I wanted you to be with me, you're made for me."
His words have an effect on you, and not the I'm lying just to get into your pants effect, but the so this is love effect.
"Do you want me to stop?" Colby asks quietly as he lays his hands on your thighs.
You lay your hands on his, "Are you going to ghost me again?"
"Never." He shakes his head, rubbing his fingers over your skin, "Never again."
You cup his cheeks as you spread your legs open slowly, "Prove it."
He's quick to act, pushing your dress up to lay around your hips as you lay back. You bring your legs up and his grips your thigh, using his other hand pull your panties to the side.
He leans in, pushing his tongue into you with a groan.
You gasp, eyes rolling back as you place a hand on his head. Your leg goes over his shoulder, pulling him closer.
You missed how good he made you feel, more importantly, you missed him.
"Colby." You moan out quietly as you look down at him. He locks eyes with yours, staring up at you as his tongue moves in and out.
He leans back, "I missed you so much." He moves up next to you, lying on his side as he leans down to kiss you.
His hand moves down your body as he gently rubs two fingers up and down your slit before slowly pushing them in.
You gasp, gripping the sheets of the random bed under you, "I missed you." Your hand goes to his cheek as his fingers move slow, doing what you love.
"What did you miss?" He presses a kiss to your forehead, "Hmm."
"You." Your breath shutters as he pushes his fingers in as far as they'll go, "Everything."
"Like what, darlin'?" Colby watches you, biting his lip as you roll your hips against his hand. You moan quietly, "all the ways.. you make me feel good."
"If you come back to me, I can do it everyday." He leans down, kissing down your neck, "Any time you want."
Your lips part as his tongue runs over the specific spot he mentioned, earning a gasp from you.
He smirks, "See, I know you."
He pulls his fingers out, bringing them up to your lips. You part them, eyes on his as your tongue swirls around them.
"You're so beautiful." He bites his lip, "Tasting yourself off my fingers."
You smile, tilting your head back. He grips your chin, leaning down to kiss you before standing up to shrug off his jean jacket.
You sit up, pulling the straps of your dress down your shoulders, "what are you layering up for winter or something?"
He chuckles, "I came here for one thing, and it wasn't to party." He winks as he pulls off his crew neck, "..so I wasn't really worried about dressing for it."
Your eyes scan over his bare torso, "What did you come here for?"
He chuckles, tilting his head as he slips his fingers into the band of his matching sweats, "I think you know."
"Do I?" You tease and he steps out of them, walking over to you. He leans down, moving his body over yours as you lay back, "Why don't I just show you."
Your lips part as the tip of his cock pushes up against you, "Don't be gentle."
"That was my next question." He smirks as he rests his arm under your knee, holding your leg up as he slides his cock into you.
Your brows furrow as your nails dig into his shoulder, "Fuck, fuck." You clench around him, earning a groan from his lips, "Fuck, I've missed how you feel around me."
He leans down, connecting his lips to yours as he slowly pulls out. He thrusts back in, quickly picking up a punishing pace.
He kisses down your neck, moaning into it as your nails drag up his back, "Colby.." you whimper, wrapping your other leg around his waist, "Fuck, fuck."
Colby bites your neck, sucking in a mark that you most likely find until later.
"You're made for me." He groans lowly, "You belong with me."
"I belong with you." You moan out as you lay your hand on his cheek, "I love you. I've always loved you."
His lips meet yours as his arm drops your leg, his hand moving to wrap around your neck, "You've always been such a good little slut for me."
You moan at his words, "always you."
He leans up, hands gripping your hips as he thrusts, "Fuck, fuck. Roll over for me." He pulls out and you push yourself over, moving your hips up.
"That's my girl." His hands run over your ass, sliding up to grip your hips as he moves behind you. He lines himself up, thrusting into you slowly as he leans down.
His lips plant kisses on your shoulder and across your upper back to the other, "I'm never letting you go again."
You grip the blanket, pulling as he pushes his cock into you. You whimper, pushing your hips back, "You feel so good."
Colby slides his hand up your back, making a pony tail of your hair take with his hand.
Your mouth opens, eyes rolling back as he pulls your head back more, "such a good girl." He starts to thrust, slow and hard, "Taking my cock so well again."
You moan, squeezing his cock as he brings you close to orgasm, "Close.. s-so close."
"Go on baby, show me how good I make you feel." Colby's voice is low, "Let me hear those pretty sounds."
A string of moans leaves by our lips as he pounds into you, guiding you through your high. His hand slips around, tightening around your neck, "that's it, baby."
He nips your ear, "So fucking good." He rests his forehead against your head, "You're gonna make me cum."
He leans up, bringing a hand down to smack on your ass. He runs his thumb over the forming red hand print, "Fuck, fuck."
He thrusts grow sloppy, quickly slowly down as you feel him twitch inside of you.
It's quiet, all but the sound of heavy breathing.
Colby finds something to clean up with, walking over to gently wipe you off, "Are you okay?" He helps you sit up and you smile, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"I didn't mean with us.. I mean.." he purses his lips and your eyes go wide, "Oh fuck, Theo."

Deadly Inferno {A Patrick Hockstetter Fic}
Part 2 - Hockstetter Kind Of Girl
Word Count: 1537
Warning: Mature Themes
I twirled my pencil between my fingers as absolutely no one was doing any sort of work. Today was the last day of school and well, it was a waste to even worry about school work. My Polaroid camera sat neatly on my desk, having been out most of the day taking random pictures of Bev and I smoking, Vic and I tormenting Henry. And my last picture for the last day of school, was a surprise photo of Patrick sitting behind me with his usual slouched demeanor, his eyes directly focused on me. I smirked at him before I turned around, the photo coming out as I shook it to help it develop. Before I could even place it in my bag, his hand twirled around my hair and yanked my head back so hard I thought he would snap my neck.
"What the fuck Hockstetter?!" His smirking face was the only thing I saw before he suddenly let me go, a portion of my hair lingering in his hand that he purposefully yanked out. He suddenly smelled it, his eyes practically rolling in the back of his head from the immense pleasure he felt course throughout his entire body. Finally, the bell had rung before anything else could be said, putting my camera away and the photo of Patrick I took in my bag I usually carried around with me. My cigarette pack was calling my name and I was ready to get out of here for the summer.
"Hey Leslie! Want to hang out later? I don't feel like being home honestly." Beverly Marsh was the best girl friend I've ever had. Smart, cunning, and always fun to be around, we had two dads that were the absolute worst. Except hers was a total creep. Mine was just an abusive asshole. So any chance we could get to stay far away from home, we took it.
"Duh. By the way, those pictures turned out great. Except I'm giving you the one where smoking is evident because I don't trust my dad to stay out of my bag." She laughed a little before taking the photo from my hand, placing it in her pocket for safe keeping. That's when she noticed the picture of Patrick firmly in the pile of photos, smirking a little in knowing. She loved teasing me about him.
"Hockstetter huh? I knew you were a Patrick kind of girl." She winked at me with a little smile in place as we walked down the hall, just as I saw them lingering in their usual spot against the wall where they can mock and laugh at people walking by. Patrick was being bold by showing his obvious intent with me by licking his lips and winking at me once we walked past. Henry simply eyed me with Beverly and it felt completely awkward. They did things together in the past, things that felt weird to even admit considering that's my brother and she's my best friend. He never lets her forget it either. Like me, she's considered a slut. Especially by Greta. She comes after both of us unfortunately. Except before I lit her hair on fire with a zippo lighter Patrick had given me for my cigarettes last year around my birthday. My dad was less than thrilled when the school called him about the incident, confiscating the zippo immediately once I got home. But I simply found it once he was black out drunk one night in his shirt pocket. He completely forgot about it. But I didn't forget the belt I got to my back over and over again. Patrick of course was proud that I even lit someone on fire.
"I guess I've decided I'm tired of being told what to do by Henry and my dad. They are on a mission to keep me away from Patrick. My dad doesn't even realize that I ride with them to school everyday. They hide me until we are out of the driveway. Same thing going back. But usually he's not home after school." Bang up job they're doing huh? I'm constantly around Patrick. Because I'm usually always with Henry. Henry wasn't always the way he is. He used to be different. Until mom left at least. Now he's a pompous asshole who bullies kids younger than him who can't really defend themselves against them. By them I mean his entire gang. Because usually he doesn't go at it alone. Sometimes.
"Don't worry about them, okay? I know it's hard to when they constantly threaten you. But you clearly like Patrick. Even if he is a creep...." I playfully slapped her arm as I drew a cigarette out of the pack from my bag and lit it up with the infamous zippo that nearly burned Greta alive, careful to see if any snitches were around that would report back to my dad. Thankfully, no one was. I inhaled on the cigarette in pure bliss, exhaling softly into the summer air, leaning against the school building.
"Yeah well.... I guess I'm fucked up then huh?" She did the same as I, not really caring if anyone saw, simply smiling at me. She never judged me. She just wanted me happy. We both wanted each other happy. But, not everything was sunshine and rainbows.
"Nice frisbee flamer!" I rolled my eyes and stubbed my cigarette out against the wall behind me before bolting towards the guys now heading towards the trans am, Patrick tormenting Stanley Uris as usual. Stanley is Jewish, and he always gets picked on for it. Honestly, they just pick on all of them to just do it.
"Patrick! Come on, don't bother that kid." Stanley had time to stand while I distracted Patrick, his attention solely on me now as he walked right towards me, his long legs taking long strides until he was directly in front of me.
"You're such a softie for these losers huh? Don't go getting all lovey dovey with them though. I wouldn't be too nice about it." I simply rolled my eyes, noting Beverly standing in place further away with a roll of her eyes before she waved at me, walking away towards the back of the school to our usual spot. A spot close to my house that no one knew about except for us. And well, Patrick. He found me there once because he was stalking me of course. I always go there when things at home are rough. Which is all the time.
"Oh Pat, how many times do I have to say you're it for me? Oh baby, oh baby." I softly nudged his arm as I went past him towards a now pissed off Henry of course picking on Bill Denbrough. Bill had been through a lot this past year, losing his brother Georgie. Georgie was a sweet kid. I used to babysit him, surprised the Denbrough's even trusted a Bowers around their kids. But I wasn't like my brother. And they seemed to be happy with that. They didn't seem to listen to rumors around town either. Thankfully. Otherwise they'd probably think I'd do something with Bill. The only interest I have, is Patrick. And I won't lie about it.
"Come on Henry. Leave him alone, alright?" Henry's eyes now engaged with mine and they were spitting fire. He roughly grabbed my arm, just as he noticed something behind me, already knowing it was dad from when I was walking away from Patrick. Dad was constantly patrolling the school because of the missing kids. He let go of me, but not before going past me and slapping a spit filled hand against Bill's cheek.
"Don't get in my way ever again Leslie. Or else." He simply stalked away as I glared after him, anger coursing through my veins. I mouthed a sorry to Bill and the others before I walked away towards the trans am, Patrick following closely behind.
"You know I'm sick of some scaredy cat bitch sticking up for a bunch of losers who all seem keen on getting in your pants. If they haven't already....." Henry's words actually stung a bit, but not long enough because once I climbed my way inside the trans am, I roughly slapped him against the head, igniting an all out war where he tried to grab for me, but Patrick pulled me onto his lap and held me all the way back against him, his arms holding me down firmly.
"Fucking asshole!" I went limp against Patrick, tears threatening to spill from my eyes. Of course Patrick's happy ass was digging into my shorts and I knew it wouldn't be long before someone did actually get into my pants. Patrick. Because I was tired of fighting to stay away from him in fear of what would happen. I shimmied across his crotch, knowing it would drive him absolutely insane, feeling him hardening even further, If that's even possible. I pretended it was an accident. But he knew I was toying with him, feeling his fingers toying with the hem of my shorts. He was losing his mind. I was playing a dangerous game. And I loved it.

~~~
You grabbed the water on the table, moving to the side and out of the camera to quickly take a few sips. You could hear the rest of the group still yelling about the previous game. You laughed quietly hearing Peter and Rae yell at each other.
Looking over at chat you hummed as you took  in the questions.
"How much longer am I streaming?" you read out the question.
"Probably a few more games. Maybe like 30 more minutes. I wanna go get dinner soon." you mumbled as you kept on scanning the chat.
A random question caught your eye.
"Do I sing?" you read out with a laugh.
"Wow, that's such a random question oh my god. Um, I used to want to be a singer when I was a kid," you started leaning back in your chair. You looked at the ceiling reminiscing and chuckled when you remembered the concerts you used to throw for your parents.
"I used to get my parents to be the audience and I would sing all my different songs for them. When they weren't free, I would do it for all of my plushies on my bed. Oh my god, I probably have old videos in the basement or something."
You smiled wistfully, looking back onto the screen.
"Those were good times," you muttered.
Looking back onto chat, your eyes widened at the amount of  "SING FOR US" messages.
"Woah guys, calm down, that was when I was a kid. I don't sing seriously you know that right?" you questioned, laughing at how fast the chat was going.
"Okay okay," you said smiling when they didn't stop. "Lemme ju- Oh wait" you cut yourself off seeing the words "IMPOSTER" light up your screen.
"LETS GOOOOO" you yelled, turning your mic on again for the game. Everyone's voice slowly faded as people went different ways. You  stuck with Lily, both of you going straight to medbay.
"Lilyyyyy" you said dragging her name out.
"Y/N" she said doing the same to you.
You giggled, and asked her if she had med scan.
"Nope, I have the inspecting the sample one."
"Ohh okay," you said getting on the med scan and pretending to scan. You watched as Lily finished her task, saying a quiet "bye" and rushing off to the next task.
You sighed, moving off the scan and starting to walk towards weapons. "Lily's so nice, I'm so glad I got to meet her through this. Like, she's the absolute sweetest I swear, I'm hoping that I get to m-" you got cut off by a body being reported.
"Already?" you asked, others echoing. You gasped when you saw who was killed, immediately whining about how someone could kill Sykunno, while playfully glaring at Sean's name, who was the other imposter.
"Okay, so the body was at reactor," revealed Rae.
"I was in the cafeteria, going towards weapons. Me and Lily were in Medbay before but she left before me," you said leaning back.
Lily confirmed this, also stating that she was in weapons now.
Sean, Corpse and Felix all said they were in Electrical, and Poki said she'd been in storage.
You looked at the chat again, not saying anything while the rest said where they were.
The chat was still spamming "Sing please!" and you looked back to the game without giving an answer. If you were being honest, then what you had said before was a lie. You still sang. Hell, it had been your dream to release your songs ever since you started writing at 15. You had started singing by singing for your parents. Ever since their car crash though, you couldn't even think about  performing for anyone else. If you couldn't even  perform for them, then what was the point? For some reason, whenever you thought of  singing in front of someone, you couldn't even get the words out.
You sighed and skipped voting as the timer ticked down. No one was ejected and you started humming slightly as you moved away from everyone.
"Hmm should I sing you a song everyone?" you asked your voice very low. You breathed deeply reminding yourself that technically no one was in the room with you, and it was only your fans watching, a small community of people who were the sweetest you had ever seen.
Going into reactor and moving down to the very end so that no one could see you, you breathed in deeply and started singing lightly, noticing that the lights were off, the blinking arrow in the corner of your screen.
"I think we could do it if we tried
If only to say you're mine
Sofia, know that you and I
Shouldn't feel like a crime
You know I'll do anything you ask me to
But oh my God, I think I'm in love with you
Standin' here alone now, think that we -"
"Y/N what the fuck your voice is -"
You screamed before the person could even finish what they were saying, hitting the "kill" button without even realising, and letting out a gasp when you saw the black body flop over.
"Oh god, oh my god, what did I do?" you whispered staring at Corpses body, half of your brain freaking out over the fact that he had heard you and the other freaking out what to do. You quickly vented, coming out in electrical and pretending to do the download.
"Oh my god, guys!" you whispered furiously, playfully glaring at the camera. "This is all your fault, do you see what I did, I killed someone with my singing... I just got so scared because he came out of absolutely NOWHERE, oh my god guys." Leaving electrical, you heard someone yelling and headed closer to them laughing nervously when you found Toast and Sean yelling at each other.
"Hey guys," you said voice being unnoticed because of all the yelling and you moved into comms pretending to do a task there.
Just as you did that, Pokis body was found, and you gasped as you realised that Sean had killed three people so now there were 5 left. Toast was dead, which means that he just died, which left Sean, you, Rae, Lily and Leslie.
There was a stunned silence for a second as everyone took in the 4 kills and then Rae immediately  attacked.
"Ahh, the body was in cafeteria. Like bottom cafeteria."
"Um, So I just wanna add something, I was coming from the electrical right, and I was walking to comms, and Toast just passed in the middle of storage. I came into comms and Sean is here as well.
"Yup, shes right, toast just left and she came in." confirmed Sean.
"Well, I saw Leslie at the start of the round, we stuck together and then I was with Poki for a bit."
"Yeah okay, but where were you?"
"Well, I went to weapons then I went down into comms and storage and then I went electrical when lights were called and everyone was ther-" she said cutting herself off and gasping.  “Guess who WASNT there? Y/N wasn’t there!”
“Well yeah, I just thought someone else would do it” you replied. “I was all the way in upper engine and I couldn’t be bothered. You all did lights and I was doing my tasks in reactor and then I went to electrical and then I was waking to comms, and then I saw toast and then I got into comma and saw Sean. Even if I was the imposter and killed Toast, I definitely couldn’t have been able to kill Poki.”
“Yeah no, I still think it’s you,” said Rae after a pause, Leslie and Lily both giggling at her.
Lily chimed in then as well, “Yeah I haven’t seen y/n this whole round at ALLLLL, so I think its her as well."
Ignoring your protests, they all voted you out, and you shrugged at the camera as your character was thrown off the  ship.
"I think I'm okay with that guys, I was way too nervous to still play," you muttered, now looking at the chat.
"Guys," you whined suddenly remembering. "I was only meant to sing for you, I didn't want anyone else to hear it, Corpse literally came out of nowhere. I hope he wasn't deafened by my screeching," you grimaced.
The word "Victory" came onto your screen and you huffed out  a laugh as the lobby exploded with noise.
"Lily! I told you it was Sean!" exclaimed Rae.
"Sean was on a killing spree," you added in, sipping your water. "I only killed like two people cuz I was distracted, I swear he literally carried the whole game.”
“He backstabbed me!” said Sykkuno and you could hear the smile in his voice. “I was doing upload while he was right next to me and we were talking about how great this group was and he just killed me right there!”
Suddenly all the attention was on Sykkuno as everyone started cooing.
“Awww, Sykkuno, did you just compliment us?” Rae yelled, lots of other chiming in to tease Sykunno and him ending up stuttering because he got flustered.
“Alright guys,” you said when everyone quieted down. "I think I'm gonna go now."
"NOOOOO" yelled Rae, everyone else echoing her.
You smiled and quickly said your goodbyes, logging off the game and quickly saying bye to the viewers and ending that as well.
Slumping into your chair, your breath quickened. "Oh my god," you whispered, the realization creeping up on you that you had just sung in front of nearly ten thousand people and that Corpse had heard you sing. You and Corpse had met through Among Us with Toast inviting you to the lobby. You had fun playing with him and you'd both followed each other, but most of your interaction was in games. Like sure you'd messaged each other a few times but those were only brief conversations! and sure, maybe you had a small tiny crush on the guy but like WHO WOULDNT? He was sweet, nice and you related to him a lot. The point was, you were absolutely not ready to sing in front of him. You stood up from the chair and went to the kitchen, pouring yourself a glass of water to calm down.
Your phone rang and you grabbed it from the counter, choking on the water as you saw that it was from Corpse.
He had never called you before. Like you said you simply weren't that close.
Coughing out a "What the fuck?" you answered the call, grabbing onto the counter for support.
"Hey," you said, confused when there was no sound.
"Uh yeah, Hi Y/N. Its Corpse."
"Ah yeah, I see." You facepalmed yourself, rubbing your forehead. What the fucks was wrong with you.
"Um yeah, so uh I just- You know in the game? Um I kind of - well - I kind of heard you singing, um um, that song."
You stilled, not a breath coming out of you.
"Your voice, its -" he paused, letting out a huge breath. "It's absolutely beautiful."
You opened your mouth not even sure what you were gonna say but he continued talking.
"I just, I cant get it out of my mind. Have you heard some of my music?"
"Um yeah, I-I listened to it when I first heard about you. Your songs are so good!" you exclaimed, finally being able to move your mouth
"Do you think maybe we could do a song together sometime? Your voice would be absolutely amazing on one of the tracks I'm currently working on, its a chill one that I have, kind of like Agoraphobic," he asked, rambling through the sentence.
"Um, Oh my god," you muttered, still confused on if this was actually happening. "Yeah, Yeah definitely that would be so cool."
"Oh. Oh that's great, I-I didn't think you'd agree, that's great, I can send you a sample and the lyrics but -"
"Um," you started cutting him off. "If I'm being honest," you muttered, shoulders coming up to your ears. "I'm actually really conscious about my singing. Like this was the absolute first time I ever even sang on stream, so like sorry- I'm ruining it, but this is just a bit overwhelming for me. It's a great opportunity, and if you want I can definitely try but please don't have big expectations of me okay?" you asked biting your lip slightly. "I'm not that great."
There was a second of silence and then he whispered lightly, "Even if you don't believe it, just from those 30 seconds, I could already tell how amazing your voice was."
Your breath caught but a second later he had already moved on.
"If you want to, we could do a few singing sessions together? Just mess around have some fun? That way you can get a bit more comfortable and have some fun," he suggested, voice changing to a shy one that you hadn't ever heard from him.
~~~
"Yeah sure," you agreed, smiling. "Lets try that."
3 months later, you guys finally released your song. Titled "For Them", you sang about your parents who you had loved dearly, and he sang about his parents and their distant relationship. It showed two different perspectives, two different stories, two different lives, and you both loved it so much.
The song was a success, with fans pouring into your channel and small community and well, your life. Most importantly though, along with all of it, came a mask-wearing man, who held you on the days that it was hard for you, and who you held on the nights that were hard for him.

How We Met
Summary: Jack and Bitty talk with their tablemates during a benefit dinner about how they met.  Short and sweet.  Also on AO3...
“Did you two date in college?”
“Well, sort of?” Bitty said as he placed his hand on Jack’s.
They were sitting at a fundraiser dinner for childhood strabismus (a cause near and dear to Jack’s heart), and all Jack could think was Thank god Bitty can talk to anyone!
If there was one thing that Jack tried to avoid at all costs, it was small talk. He avoided benefit dinners like the plague because of the impending chit chat. Normally, he would have just cut a check and been on his way, but the foundation convinced Jack to introduce the keynote speaker.
“We were on the same hockey team in college, but didn’t start dating until Jack graduated.”
“You two seem like you were soulmates from the start,” the woman (Lisa? Leslie?) who sat to the right of Bitty said.
Jack snorted, which caused everyone at the table to look at him as Bitty smiled and shook his head.
“It was a bumpy start,” Bitty replied, “but we found our way.”
“One of the first things I said to him was that he should eat more protein,” Jack said as he moved his salad around with his fork.
“And not in a saucy way, either,” Bitty side-whispered, much to the delight of everyone else at the table.
“Oh, Eric! He didn’t,” the woman sitting next to Lisa/Leslie said.
“Imagine this one: 23, handsome as all get out, and Mr. Grump-Galore,” Bitty said as he spread his hands dramatically, palms facing the group, across in front of him.  “He thought little ol' me was too malnourished for his damn team.”
“I was worried you’d get hurt,” Jack interjected with a grin.
“Any-hoo! He got on my nerves too, so it was all good.”
“I did?” Jack asked.
Bitty laughed. “Boy, come on.  You know you did! That wild crinkle you’d get in between your eyes.  You were so uptight and annoying—but it was mutual, so it’s okay.”
Lisa/Leslie said, “Well, the way you two look at each other, and how you seem so comfortable with one another, you never would have guessed.”
“I was thinking the same thing, Liesl,” the woman next to her added.
Liesl! Jack thought.
“Well, soon enough, those sour puss faces gave way to friendship,” Bitty said.
He took a slow sip of his wine and smiled at Jack.
“I realized he was a good player who just needed some extra help.”
“He helped me with my hockey, and I helped him not be such a jackass.”
Bitty winked at Jack who grinned.
“Some say Eric short-circuited my wiring,” Jack said, mostly to Bitty, more than anyone else.
It earned him a surprised laugh from Bitty that made Jack preen. Bitty placed his hand on Jack’s knee under the table and gave it a quick squeeze.
“And then we took a class together--”
“Women, Food and American Culture."
"--and that was the beginning of the end.”
“The end?” Liesl asked.
“It was over for the two of us,” Bitty said.
“We fell hard,” Jack said, almost surprising himself with his candor.
“But I thought you said you started dating after Jack was done with school?” someone else asked.
“Oh, yeah, that. Right,” Bitty replied as Jack nodded.
“Technically, I was done with school.”
“This one,” Bitty said as he jerked his thumb toward Jack, “didn’t ask me out until his graduation day.”
“I’m pretty sure I did more than ask you out,” Jack said.
“Again, not in a saucy way,” Bitty said.
Bitty locked eyes with Jack, and suddenly, it was like Bitty was the only person in the room.
“He ran across the quad, in his graduation gown, and showed up to my room, and kissed me. And right then, I knew.  I knew Jack Zimmermann was the one.”
Everyone at the table awww'd as Eric cupped the side of Jack's face and Jack in turn kissed the inside of Eric’s wrist.
“And now, we'd like to bring up someone who has been a great supporter of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus for years to say a few words and introduce our keynote speaker,” the evening's host called out from the stage.  “You may know him as Captain of the Providence Falconers, but at the foundation we just know him as our friend, Jack Zimmermann.”
The audience applauded. Jack quickly took a sip of water, and pulled his note cards from his jacket pocket.
“Here we go,” he said. He looked at Bitty and bared his teeth. “Do I have any salad on my teeth?”
“No, you're perfect,” Bitty said.
Jack smiled and made his way toward the stage as Bitty clapped and threw out a hearty, “Woo!”

Found Footage Films that Find My Footage
Oh, found footage. The most maligned of all sub-genres. I’m here to tell you there’s a lot of gold here that people don’t seem aware of. Because they’re not willing to dig. Like any other storytelling trope or trick of the trade, found footage can be used to make great things or terrible things. I’m gonna help you find the cream with this list.
Obvious good ones we all know about: The Blair Witch Project, The Last Exorcism, Grave Encounters, The Houses October Built,  As Above So Below, and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Watch those if you haven’t. Now let’s get into the stuff that might be a little more buried.
Mr. Jones | Found footage gets a lot of mileage out of folk horror. Probably because mixing technology with it and showing how folk horrors are stronger than tech feels just right to scare an audience full of people with smart phones in their pockets. In this case, it’s used in an especially effective way. When you get to the part of the movie where you’re asking yourself, “who could possibly be filming this?” KEEP WATCHING. That’s part of the bit that will explode your brains.
The Final Prayer (AKA The Borderlands) | Found footage also lives and breathes on twists. This one is quite the kiss to the old chef. The turn it takes that fully explains the extent of the shit these people have gotten themselves in... Well, I dare you not to have an existential crisis about the infinitesimal nature of man a la Lovecraft.
Devil’s Due | I love possession movies and Rosemary’s Baby knockoffs. Throw in some found footage, and you’ve got yourself a winner in my book. This one in particular makes excellent use of the format. Some of the effects they use look especially incredible when you’re viewing them from a first person perspective, and it becomes a kind of roller coaster spectacle.
Noroi: The Curse | What if you want a slow burn? Something that feels like an investigatory documentary. Where someone’s pursuit of the truth at all costs makes them slowly become the center of a horrifying story. One which, as more details are revealed, becomes increasingly sickening and foreboding. Nothing will fill you with dread the way this movie does. If this were a structured list, it would be number one. If you don’t watch anything else, please watch this one.
The McPherson Tape | People thought this was real. Does that feel a little ridiculous? I won’t say it doesn’t in hindsight, but I love that this has the distinction of being a film that was circulated as a true, caught-on-tape case of alien abduction. Enjoy how kitch that is, please. Also, if you like it, watch Alien Abduction (2014). It has a bigger budget, but it plays on the same fears.
V/H/S Series | All of them. Every movie. Not necessarily every segment, but each movie has at least one segment that blows the doors clean off. Some of them have more than one, and that’s truly a gift. There’s way too much to cover here other than to say some of the wildest examples of found footage I’ve experienced are in this quadrilogy. I recommend WNUF Halloween Special if you’ve already exhausted this series, because it has the same, good vibes.
Searching | No one talks about this one, but it’s an example of excellent creativity. We follow a search for a missing person via webcams, chats, phone calls, and files on laptops. The information we receive is sporadic and colored by heavy bursts of emotion. The way it would really be if you couldn’t find a loved one and were on a desperate search.
Hell House LLC | Do you like Grave Encounters? I do, too, but this one’s slightly better. Because it doesn’t blow its wad or show its hand too much. It holds back a lot. The scares are minimalist, with things moving when you aren’t looking. Someone suddenly being in the corner when they weren’t before. But it has you checking every frame of the film, gasping at sudden movement, and feeling paranoid as fuck. Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is a Korean version of this kind of movie that I call “hubris-filled assholes go into an obviously haunted place and play games with demons that could eat them for breakfast.” Highly entertaining.
1974: La Posesión de Altair | I want to explain the fascinating thing this film made me realize, but I can’t without spoiling it. There’s a twist that happens right at the end of this film, revealing that what we thought was happening was a different kind of attack all along. And it bent my mind in a wonderful way. I love twists that rewire the entire movie in hindsight, and this is a great one.
Apollo 18 | And last but not least, the hill I will be dying on. This movie is good. Shut up. It’s good. What if there was a final journey to the moon, but things went SO SIDEWAYS, it was hidden from the public? This is that mission. And sideways it does go. Moon rocks will never be the same for me.
I have not watched every found footage film. I still have a lot I want to get to. But this is a solid list of personal favorites for the moment.

Love of an Irish heart 12 - … shall reap the whirlwind
Tumblr media
Paring: Kelly Severide x Female Reader

Kelly's gaze was fondly on the two most important women in his life. The two of them were laughing and having a good chat.
One was his better half, his sister, his family.
The other his girlfriend, his future, the great love of his life.
He never would have thought that there would ever be someone he would love so much. But then you stepped into his life and changed everything.
You changed him.
A few weeks ago everything was different. If Kelly thought about it, he had been no different from Susan in his wild years. He too had probably slept his way through half of Chicago. But since you came into his life, there was only you.
You were the only woman who still existed for him. Your love was all he needed, all he wanted.
He never would have thought that he too would be lucky enough to find that one person who would suddenly change his whole world. That he would find the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Nothing and no one could change anything about it.
From now on it was just you two against the rest of the world.
You were the one great love of his life. He was sure of that.
"I never understood why the two were friends at all," Lucas pulled the tall firefighter out of his thoughts, "I mean, they are even more different than day and night."
“(Y/N) is someone who only ever sees the good in a person. That is exactly what makes her so special."
“Yes, but unfortunately (Y/N) is always exploited and injured as a result. This girl is just too good. "
"She's perfect," Kelly concluded in a whisper to herself.
"But we did an elegant job with Susan," laughed Lucas before taking a sip of his beer, "we won't see her again anytime soon."
"Hopefully."
Kelly was still looking over at the two women and could hear your bright laughter while you were talking to Shay.
"Well Kelly," said Lucas, patting him on the shoulder in a friendly manner, "we two will have to take good care of our little one in the future."
"We will."
You didn't hear about the Susan thing. You were standing at the bar, whiskey in hand, talking to Leslie Elizabeth Shay, the woman you thought was Kelly's girlfriend for a while.
She was so much more than that, she was his family. The only family he'd had so far.
You liked the blonde woman and were glad you finally got the chance to befriend her. Except for this one meeting at the lake, you haven't really run into each other yet.
Shay was funny, friendly, gracious, and always up for a laugh. You two had a great conversation. You were on the same wavelength and slowly Shay understood why Kelly liked you more than everyone else before you.
The blonde paramedic is now convinced that he had never loved anyone before you as much as you.
Kelly had called Shay when he finally managed to convince you to meet your friends at Flanagans. He had asked her to come along in case Susan should show up, and Shay had immediately said yes.
She was your moral support, so to speak, and you were more than grateful for that.
Leslie was also happy to finally get to know you better. After all, she had never seen Kelly as happy and balanced as he was with you.
You were just the yin to his yang.
“Incredible, no wonder Kelly wasn't exactly comfortable facing your family. I mean, how many are you?"
"Not so many. My parents, my siblings, their partners, the kiddies," you began, counting with your fingers, "all in all ... with me .... twelve."
"Twelve? And you claim you are a small family? Dear, small family means mother, father, child…. so three, not twelve!"
Shay was almost speechless, now she understood Kelly's reaction to his compulsory attendance at this weekly family brunch.
“Believe me, we're really small for an Irish family. After all, I only have two siblings. My cousin in Dublin has five. "
"Well, I imagine Christmas to be funny," Shay said sarcastically and took a sip of her beer.
“First of all, imagine if I were in her place,” you interjected, “she only has brothers. What do you think, what kind of minefields Kelly would then have to overcome. Thank god I only have one. "
"And your mother."
"Oh yeah. Poor Kelly, she won't make it easy for him,” you laughed.
"Doesn't she like him?"
"What? No, I do think she likes him. But apart from the fact that I'm the youngest of my siblings, Mum didn't make it easy for Mike and Debbie either when they were brought in by my siblings. But now Mum looks at them both like their own children. Even if she sees Kelly differently at the moment, she accepts him by my side, and that's worth a lot. "
---
Susan couldn't believe what had just happened. This firefighter had dumped her as ice. She had expected something like this from Lucas.
But not from Kelly.
How on earth could it have happened that this little Irish girl was with him again. Your reaction a few weeks ago when this story began was more than straightforward.
Susan would never have expected that her action would backfire so badly.
But that was clearly you at that bar.
You were by the side of this man again, whom Susan still desired.
But now this blonde witch wanted revenge much more than Kelly. She wanted to see Kelly suffer.
Susan knew of Kelly's wild past, also that he had already stood before the internal affairs. At the time, a paramedic had accused him of rape.
Surely it would still be possible to capitalize on that.
His reputation was already scratched and given his previous way of life, who would ask exactly? That she would destroy not only his life but yours as well was a nice bonus.
Revenge was sweet after all and whoever laughed last laughed best, as is well known.
Deep in her own thoughts, she ran down the street looking for a taxi. That day clearly seemed cursed because there wasn't any of those damn things to be found anywhere. Susan was getting angrier, at Kelly, at you, at herself, at the rest of the world.
Angry at everything and everyone, she just kept going. At that moment she was so hungry for revenge, she would have sold her soul to the devil just to make this fireman and his little slut atone.
How on earth could it have happened that she was now a loser? And was exposed to the laughter of the others on top of that?
The blonde woman went on and on.
Desperate for a taxi, she hadn't noticed the shadow that had followed her since she'd left the Flanagans.
The man followed her constantly at a distance of ten meters, watching her every move. He waited. That one long-awaited moment would come soon, this night, this hour.
An inexpressible anticipation flowed through every single cell of his body and left a wonderful tingling sensation.
He had been looking for her for so long, but now he had found her. This woman he wished he had never met. This damned femme fatal, with her long blonde hair, this stunning figure and her very special way of wrapping everyone around her finger just so she could get what she wanted.
Not so long ago she had wanted him and got it. It should have been a harmless adventure, nothing more, nothing less. Just one night in which he could forget everything that had made his life so difficult at that moment.
It should have just been lust, passion, sex.
Without obligations.
He had enjoyed it, every minute, every inch of her body. But if he had known what curse had lain on that one night and what the consequences would be, he would never have got into that taxi with her. Then he would never have come into her apartment.
She had taken everything he had owned, everything he had ever loved. He had lost everything. His wife, his children, all of his possessions. Now it was his turn to take what she loved.
Her life.
He clutched the knife tighter and tighter in his jacket pocket. He had bought it especially for the occasion. In the little gun shop on the hundred and third.
It had been recommended to him. For hunters it was the best knife currently available on the market.
He had bought it without hesitation, after all he was a hunter too; and this blonde woman in front of him is his prey.
When Susan stopped at the big intersection near the Riverwalk, she had given up hope of a taxi for good. Still mad at God and the world, she rummaged for her cell phone. Then she just had to order a car through UBER, why else had she installed this app? Just a few clicks later and a driver from this service was on the way to her.
He had watched her typing on her cell phone.
Time was running out.
Now or never.
Slowly he stepped out of the shadow of the house wall and approached the woman whom he hated more than any other woman who walked in this world. She had taken everything from him, now it was his turn.
He was still clutching the knife tightly as he slowly took it out of his jacket pocket. A moment later, he pressed it against his thigh to soften the tremor in his hand. The adrenaline was pulsing through his veins at that moment and he felt absolutely intoxicated.
Would that be the anticipation of what would follow?
Step by step he approached this blond devil until he was right behind her. The smell of her perfume rose slowly into his nostrils. It was the same as that damn night that had cost him everything.
He inhaled her scent deeply, he wanted to savor every single second of this encounter. The outcome of this meeting was as inevitable as the sunrise on the morning of each day.
Only then did Susan realize that someone was right behind her. Abruptly she turned to this man and took two steps backwards to put some distance between the two of them.
"Get lost, you ass," she hissed at him, she was far from having any desire for beggars, junkies or other scraps.
But the man, who was not much taller than herself, didn't move a muscle.
He wore a black hoodie with the hood pulled down over his face and dark jeans. Over it he had pulled something that was vaguely reminiscent of a US Army raincoat.
Susan didn't think about it any further. If this guy didn't want to go away, he might as well be used as a victim on whom she could vent all her pent-up hatred.
This guy would soon wish he had never run into her.
She couldn't have guessed that he really wanted that.
"Do you remember who I am," he asked in a calm, almost whispered voice.
"If you are not the lottery fairy, you can leave right away!"
"Were there so many that you can't remember me?"
"What do you want? Leave! My evening was shitty enough without you,” Susan replied angrily and her anger could be heard in every single word she said.
"But I can remember you, every little thing,” the stranger whispered.
"Well, who cares."
"Me."
"But not me, so piss of!"
"You little whore took everything I ever owned from me," said the dark figure gloomily and threateningly.
"Whore? I think I misheard", Susan screamed and her voice cracked, "you little wimp. You can disappear right back into the hole you crawled out of!"
That was enough.
In one jump he was next to her and slowly sank the polished, glistening silver blade into the flesh of this young woman.
The feeling he had at that moment was indescribable, as if it wasn't the knife, but himself, who just went deep into her. It was impossible for him to put these sensations into words as he inhaled their scent and he felt a satisfaction that he had never thought possible.
Even his lips escaped an almost lustful moan.
Susan hadn't expected any of this.
She stood there and tried to understand what was happening here.
The pain in her stomach was hard to describe, like someone pouring liquid fire into her.
What was happening here?
She stared into those black eyes that seemed familiar to her from the depths of her subconscious. It took a few moments before she could move again, look down, and see where this searing pain was coming from.
It could only be a bad joke now.
Was it all really happening right now?
Slowly she took a step back and saw how the man opposite her was holding a knife, the blade of which was now slowly leaving her body.
No, it just couldn't be true.
Just before she slumped, she saw a victorious smile that graced the lips of this still unknown man. One that the men only gave her when they experienced this special moment between Susan's heated thighs.
---
Even though it was well after nine, Erin still had that damn paperwork to deal with. She had no choice. Tomorrow, punctually at ten o'clock, the whole file had to be at the prosecutor's office to finally get this damn rapist where he belonged.
In a four-square-meter cell in Stateville.
Luckily for her, Al had agreed to give her a hand, otherwise she wouldn’t be finished with the file by sunrise. The others in the Intelligence Unit had long since left for the evening. So the two detectives were alone in their rooms on the first floor of the 21st district.
Even Hank Voight had left the office before them today, something that was very, very rare, but Erin and Al knew why. After all, the two of them knew their sergeant better than anyone else, having been friends for years, they were like family. Therefore, the two of them knew about this young woman, who came into his life a little more than six months ago and has since become more and more a part of his life. She had achieved something that no one had done since Camille. She had won the heart of that old growler, and faster than Hank had probably realized himself.
The two detectives were processing the files in silence when Erin's phone rang loudly.
"Detective Lindsey !?"
Al glanced up from his paperwork and immediately noticed the change in Erin's facial expression. Today they couldn't handle that damn paperwork anymore.
"Understood, we are on our way," she ended the phone call and immediately turned to Al, "a young woman has just been found, a stab wound in the stomach."
"Well then, let's go."
"I'll call Hank."
Al looked at his colleague in amazement. Not sure if that was such a good idea.
“Didn't he want to meet his new girlfriend tonight? He will not be enthusiastic about this disturbance!"
"Do you want to skip Hank, Al? No problem just let me know!"
"So that he is mad at me then? No way, "Al laughed briefly, while Erin had already grabbed her cell phone and dialed the number of her sergeant.
"Hank? Sorry to bother you, but we have a case. A young woman was stabbed near the Riverwalk", Erin explained as she followed Al down the stairs to her car, "okay, yeah, see you at the scene."

Chapter Six (Jennifer Barkley x Reader)
Tumblr media
Previous Chapter
The entire day, nay week leading up to Jen's arrival was fraught with tension. Time went all too quickly, yet dragged simultaneously. By Friday you were brimming with so much unnecessary energy that your productivity at work was comparable to that of Leslie, who's determination was currently your source of frustration. Had she not been so resolute about giving Jen a 'personal Pawnee tour', than you would've reunited at 5 rather than 9.
Admittedly, it was also your fault for not calling out her lengthy lie, but those extra four hours you had to suffer through were compensation enough.
In an attempt to pass the extra time, you tried to stay at work for longer, but Fridays were your half day and Ron demanded that you go home immediately, lest you do any extra government work. Reluctant to return to an empty house, you'd asked around if anyone wanted to hang out, and were met with a series of rejections.
Except for Ann, who upon being enlightened about the situation, insisted she help you get ready for your date (initially you refuted the title of 'date', but by the second hour of your evening it became tolerated). Her company, though unexpected, was more than welcomed. Having someone to share your excitement with made the increasing tension almost fun.
"Y/N?" Ann waved her hand in your line of vision, catching your attention. "We going in, or just spending the night in the car?"
"Don't tempt me." You muttered, grudgingly dragged out of your thoughts.
In front of you the queue to the The Snakehole Lounge was gradually growing. The sheer amount of people gathered outside was intimidating, so you dreaded to imagine how packed it'd be inside. Staying at home would've been preferable, but it seemed that time alone with Jennifer was not a luxury presently granted to you.
"Come on." Ann nudged you with her elbow. "You've been going on about this all day and now you're going to wuss out?"
You twisted round to face her, illuminated by the flickering multi-coloured lights beaming out the club's windows. She was watching you closely, trying to gauge how you felt based off expression alone. Despite all that was rushing through your mind, you were at a loss for words. How could you even begin to convey what you were currently feeling?
"Stop overthinking it." She said. "There's no way of knowing what'll happen when you see Jennifer again, but only you can change that, so just roll with it."
You paused to consider her suggestion, coming to the conclusion that she was more observant than you gave her credit for.
"You're right." You admitted, grateful that she'd knocked some sense into you. "Thanks." Awkwardly, you leant across the centre console to hug her. You didn't know Ann all too well, but needed some way of showing gratitude for her sensibility.
"This is nice." She relaxed into the embrace, then unwound an arm to glance at her watch. "But we're five minutes late so I'm pretty sure Leslie will be sending out a search party soon."
You chuckled, separating from Ann to glance at the building once more. Jen was somewhere inside waiting for you. She'd voluntarily returned to Pawnee, and to one of its less than fine establishments of all places, just because she wanted to see you again. The very notion had your heart racing.
"I'm ready."
---
The atmosphere of the club was as intense and unruly as expected. By the time you'd adjusted to the blinding lights and deafening music, Ann had already slipped away, replaced by Tom.
"Welcome this evening's esteemed VIP." He thrusted a disturbingly bright neon beverage into your hand. "Drink up."
"What is it?"
"Sweetums Fizz. My go-to drink for when I'm tryna get lucky." He winked. "But if it doesn't work out, feel free to give her my number."
Coming from Tom, that was the closest you would get to his blessings. So, unenthusiastically you took a sip of the dreadfully sweet drink , screwing up your face as you forced it down. Trying your best not to grimace at the taste, you smiled at him in thanks before he dispersed into the mass of people.
Next to approach was Leslie, who engulfed you in a crushing hug while spewing unintelligible nonsense about her trip. Usually her overly affectionate manner was too much, but this time you pulled her closer. If all went well tonight than you would be forever indebted to her.
Removing yourself from her grip, you interrupted her endless talk. "As much as I'd love to hear about Washington," You yelled over the obnoxiously loud music playing. "I can't hear a word your saying."
"Right." She nodded. "Wrong time, wrong place." There was a pause as the both of you were happy enjoying each others company. Since Jen's exit, Leslie had been so supportive and you'd missed her while she'd been gone.
Although, now wasn't the time for acknowledgements. "Have you seen Jen anywhere?"
"Oh, yeah." Leslie swivelled around and gestured in a general direction. "I think she said something about staying near the fire escape. Said this entire building was probably a hazard."
"That sounds like her." You grinned, spotting the green glowing fire exit sign. "Wish me luck."
"You don't need it." She patted your back, smiling reassuringly as you shuffled past.
Navigating through the crowd while keeping an eye on your target was a challenge. Several people bumped into you, their drink nearly spilling as they pushed past without an apology. However, nothing else mattered as you drew closer to the sign. Nothing else mattered except finding Jen.
Only she wasn't there.
As you struggled through the final row of people, you were met with yet another group of strangers. You sighed, absentmindedly swirling your glass as you resigned to return to Leslie. You then raised it to drink while turning round, though the necessary libation never reached your lips as you collided with someone.
The casualty gasped, stepping back as the cocktail spilled down the front of their dress.
"Shit." You froze, surveying the damage. "I'm so sorry-" You finally glanced up to face the woman and apologise again, but halted upon realisation.
Of course it was Jennifer. You just couldn't catch a break.
"I was going to surprise you, but looks like you got there first." She joked, scanning the vicinity for any kind of napkin. You joined the search, eventually spotting a couple abandoned on a table.
"Again, I am so sorry." You repeated, watching as she scrubbed at the stain. The attempt was futile as it didn't take long for the paper to be completely soaked through, and with little improvement to her dress. "Come on." You grabbed hold of her hand as she discarded the napkins, eager to try and improve this disaster of an event.
You maneuverer through the club with much difficulty while dragging Jennifer, who had an iron grip on your hand. Invigorated by the embarrassment, you arrived at the bathroom a mere minute later, all but shoving her inside one of the cubicles. Under the blaringly bright lighting you could assess the damage in greater detail.
"You know what?" She casually leant against the wall, waving her finger around. "I'm having some serious Deja-vu right now." You looked at her questioningly, pleased to see she didn't look too upset with the state of her dress. "Us together in a public restroom, you staring at my chest..."
You scoffed, reaching past her to grab the toilet paper. "Don't flatter yourself." You wrapped several layers around your hand, creating a makeshift towel. "Completely different circumstances."
"Same outcome though?" She raised an eyebrow suggestively, taking the bundle of paper from you.
"We'll just have to wait and see."
"I think you owe me." She scrunched up her face. "Or is throwing your drink over someone a traditional Pawnee welcome? Because that would explain the mess back there. Pretty sure every surface was sticky."
"Maybe you should wear one of those plastic ponchos next time." You muttered, nervously fidgeting with your hands.
The familiar anxiety from earlier seemed to have reappeared, you were unable to drag your eyes away from where they were fixated . Under the sobering bathroom light, everything had suddenly become very real. It had been years since you'd pursued any kind of serious relationship, and Jen was hardly the easiest person to start with. You tried to think about what Ann would say if she were here.
Probably something astute like "All the best things in life are worth fighting for." Too cheesy.
It'd be more "Nothing good comes out of running away from what you want, even if it's hard." Not inspirational enough.
Possibly "With great effort comes great gain." Nope. You'd definitely plagiarised that one from somewhere.
Maybe she'd-
"Y/N?" Jen ducked into your line of vision, bringing you back to reality. "Lost you there for a second." She smiled cautiously, resting a hand against your arm as if tethering you to the present.
"Sorry. I was thinking about something a friend said." You admitted sheepishly, placing your hand atop of hers. "Or would say if she were here."
"Oh yeah?" She carelessly threw the wad of paper behind, her full attention now on you. "And what would she say?"
You'd finally settled on what Ann would suggest. She'd say "Kiss her, idiot."
And you did.

Superman & Lois S1 Review
Damn this really has been my favorite piece of live action Superman media since Smallville ended.
Tumblr media
Pros
Hoechlin is by far the best actor for Clark since either Welling or Reeve depending on your tastes. He's certainly the first one in ages to put any effort into portraying the Clark/Superman divide. As Clark he's a huge dork without being a cartoon, as Superman he's kind and caring without coming across as a caricature. He can be intimidating, such as when he's staring down the troops after getting shot with kryptonite, or funny, such as when he smirks at Lois after she suddenly realizes he can hear her gush about how she prefers Clark Kent over him. He's intelligent (demonstrated by him knowing multiple languages), and is idealistic without being naive in how he deals with Sam. You get how this guy could be Superman and what drives him, and it's great!
Tulloch is also rapidly climbing up the ranks of my favorite Lois actors, right now she's tied for second with Durrance behind Kidder. She's tough as nails and will verbally rip you apart if you try to cross her, but she's also amazing at those tender emotional moments such as when she is talking to her therapist about her miscarriage, or admitting to Jon that maybe she went too far in how she berated him. She's scary and also lovable at the same time in a way that is just so Lois Lane.
Both Clark and Lois are incredibly competent in their careers as hero and reporter respectively, but both struggle with being parents in a way that strikes such a great balancing act.
We finally get another live action John Henry Irons and holy shit is Wole amazing in the role. Irons is competent as hell from the start and he doesn't lose that competence once he sides with Superman. Wole does such a great job of portraying Irons' emotional intensity through his facial expressions and acting, I feel like he really helps to elevate the show with his presence. His tech was also cool as hell, from his war suit to his warhammer (red solar lamp attachments!) to his guns, that episode where he robs the truck carrying Kryptonite was awesome. I'm so glad they went with him as Steel instead of an alternate Luthor as was originally the plan apparently. Fingers crossed this leads to Steel getting more love elsewhere (give me a comic mini DC)!
The CGI overall is pretty damn good. Fight scenes obviously can't compare with the DCEU, but they feel like a major step up over the rest of the Arrowverse
Jordan really grew over the course of the season and I'm interested to see where he goes from here
The Cushings managed to be pretty damn interesting, Kyle was a pleasant surprise in that he managed to keep walking that tightrope between being sympathetic while also a screwup. I liked Lana and Lois becoming friends. Sarah is really great as well.
Chrissy was a lot of fun, starting out as a Lois fangirl but ultimately calling Lois out when she waffled on her integrity
Sam Lane was great, was worried how they would handle Clark and the military working together, but I think they did a good job handling the portrayal as tense with Clark making it clear there are lines he won't cross working with them. Sam failed as a dad to Lois and I enjoyed seeing him get called out on it
Really liked the actor who portrayed Edge, I thought he did a great job, he clearly seemed to be having fun
Cons
Jon is an extremely likeable character who feels completely ancillary to this show. As someone else I talked to pointed out, it feels like the show was made with one son in mind, but then they split the one son into two because "Jordan" offered them more freedom characterwise. Jon has basically been a support role to Jordan's plots this whole season, and with the arrival of Nat, I'm not really sure what his role will be going forward. The biggest problem is that Jon is so well-adjusted that if he gets powers, he's basically primed to take over for Clark already, so he won't get powers I think until that changes.
I think they didn't really have enough plot to justify adding more episodes frankly. The finale was solid, but felt a bit underwhelming given we already saw Clark break free of mind control with the power of love, and Eradicator-Edge was just making another failed attempt at what he already tried
Speaking of Edge why is he still alive? I'm not sure what he offers anymore at this point, his purpose in life is gone, and him knowing Clark's secret identity feels like something they can't just sweep under the rug, especially with Sam no longer running the DOD. Ditto for Leslie
All in all this was very satisfying for me personally. I rate S1 as an 8.5/10, and I'm really eager to see how Natalie showing up is going to shake things up. Thankfully it's been said we won't be getting another Kryptonian bad guy next season, and there will be more "Killgrave" smaller side villains. Really excited at the prospect of seeing more obscure Superman Rogues, although I personally would love it if Brainiac was the S2 big bad.

ESC 2021 Preshow: 08. France
Barbara Pravi - “Voilà”
Autoqualifier
youtube
France going from 3rd last on my ranking / likely last place in the finale to 8th place in the ranking / probably top 3 in the Grand Final. 😍 WHAT A GLOW-UP.
So, “Voilà” is epic, obviously. Yeah I will skip the theatrics, each and every one of you know this song and we all know it’s probably the best French entry in ages.
Funnily enough, I didn’t care for “Voilà” when I first heard it lmfao. It felt similar to the song Patricia Kaas went to Eurovision with and while “Et s’il faillait le faire” has its fans, I was never one of them. Worse, the internet immediately resorted to refering to “Voilà” as a “masterpiece” which is probably the pretentious statement you can make about Eurovision songs. Guys, it’s an Edith Piaf-inspired tribute act. Calm the eff down. Still, even at this early a stage I was instantly charmed by Barbara’s introspection and pluck even if I didn’t care for the music at first. After all, Barbara was the mastermind behind jesc HITS “Bim bam toi” and “J’imagine” and if she wants to bring a song that puts HER SELF at the forefront, she’s perfectly entitled to do so. About fucking time. On top of that, I thought the ending was sublime, even in studio version. “Why can’t the entire song be like that”, I thought. And then, E:CVQD arrived and Barbara SERVED, OUTSOLD, SLAYED, etc every superlative under the sun.
Tumblr media
So remember when I aired my critique regarding Gjon? “Tout l’Univers” is an “Objectively Strong” composition in that it employs music theory to conjure up a song that sounds impressive on first listen. But behind that academic skill lies virtually nothing of interest. I cannot connect with it beyond a base level because what does it tell me about Gjon or his story? Technique without a heart or a soul is merely pretense. But I suppose it can sound sophisticated to someone who doesn’t know what “sophistication” is.
Barbara, however. Her personality just SPRINGS FORWARD on an approachable level from the first note. “Voilà”s’s technical expertise and Barbara’s own perfomance talents carry this vibe, this SERVE of personality, through the full three minutes without ever getting boring or tedious and they leave me craving for another listen. ALL OF THESE ARE AMAZING TRAITS IN A EUROVISION SONG. And this is just from the studio version, the live stage show makes it even better.
So yeah, homeboy’s got his work cut out for him because if this is his competition he’ll have to graft hard for his victory.
NF Corner -  C’est Vous Qui Décidez
In what would become a running theme amidst countries this year, France led the charge in a personal project called #OperationForget2020, in which every trace of last year would be subsequently memory-holed. To acheive this, they revived their NF, gave it a new name and pretended it was ~The First NF of Its Format~ (so basically doing what Lithuania did last year when they rebranded Atranka into PiN).
INCIDENTALLY, this would also wind up the best NF of the year, pretty much by default because France had the most to win. Even though Barbara was the obvious winner from the instant the songs were revealed, the French had some excellent back-up options in their arsenal. Let’s rummage through them shall we?
LMK - “Magique”
youtube
R&B Trap wench <3 “Magique” starts off pretty and cute for fifteen seconds, before whiplashing hard into kick-ass tropical house territory. Her Slovene spirit mothers Raiven and Lea Sirk are so proud of her <3 She definitely deserved much better than the result she got (being NQ with the audience O_O), but lol it’s France, they ain’t NEVER crowning a sexually confident sassy woman, let’s not kid ourselves.
Céphaz - “On a mangé le soleil”
youtube
This Hat God had me at that title. “We have eaten the sun” 😍😍😍😍. More songs should adopt a fatalistic environmental angle by using consumption-related metaphors à la “we’ve devoured out planet :burp:, MOAR”, and then set this suuuuper cynical and depressing text to an upbeat and optimistic soundtrack <3 The “Hey ya” tease of it all. 😍
Amui - “Maeva”

So cheerful it turns a surly cretin such as myself into a blundering mass of uwu. It’s like a nillies Eurovision semi NQ’er suddenly wandered into the set, so derivative and repetitive and tacky but SO fun and happy-go-lucky <3 The entire premise of “Maeva” is basically like: “VISIT FRENCH POLYNESIA, WE ARE THE MOST HOSPITABLE PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH” <333 using this message in the middle of a worldwide viral pandemic <33333333 Normally fun-trash like this would be murdered at first sight by any jury, but whoops “Maeva” turned out a massive televote hit HEHEE 😛 and finished third in the televote despite being last or second last with the jury. Those Tahitian diasporia votes coming through <3
Adriamad - “Allélujah”
youtube
TACKY EUROTRASH <3 Lol when I think of it, did I like this NF because it was good or because it was so fun-trash. Anyway, this display of diversity would normally be on my shitlist but it’s honestly SO OTT in its ~People Of The World Of All Colours Are Equal~ message it circles back into funny. The eye gimmick, the hammy choreography, the obnoxious fusion of several cultures into a nondescript ethnotrash hodgepodge, the fucking LYRICS everything is so funny and so entertaining it’s giving me LIFE. 😍 I’d say it deserved better but “Allélujah” stranding in the demifinal (not a typo) is honestly a much, much more satisfying result <3
Predicted Journey - France
Barbara is going on that Mahmood trajectory, I see. Early fave who gets near unanimous critical acclaim, rules solely on top until the other contenders show up and is then put on the backburner because she’s an autoqualifier and therefore isn’t a part of the “who will qualify?” discussions. Then, the rehearsals will happen and everyone will remember “hey, that French chick we almost forgot about is actually REALLY good” allowing her to pick up momentum again, catapulting her into the top five. So it is written, such it shall be.
The question is... Can she win?
The answer is: yeah, possibly? At this point we have three potential contenders: Gjon for Switzerland and Destiny for Malta are the main rivals and I’d say Barbara has one big advantage over Gjon and Destiny: She already has a great live performance to back up her potential winner status. In fact, Barbara is a fave to win because we know what she’s going to bring in Rotterdam.  Gjon and Destiny could theoretically still bomb if their staging is off (and both are getting theirs done by Sasha Jean-Baptiste, soooooo) and their contenderness is based on things such as hype and expectation. Barbara meanwhile already had her baptism by fire when she competed in E:CQVD, which she handily won.
The problem though is Gjon Muharremaj. For the average eurofan, France and Switzerland have similar entries and it will result in a tug-of-war between which of them has the better song. Either could win this televote bout, and whoever does could beat Malta.. .but that would require Malta to have a disappointing televote result and with each passing day this is starting to look less likely. (Jury results matter less because they’re probably the top 3).  Personally I don’t really have a preference between Barbara OR Destiny as a win for either would push Eurovision in a better direction (A Gjon win though... I am TERRIFIED that may result in a 2022 contest filled with Vincent Bueno’s and Vasils), but if these three are indeed the top three, Barbara’s position is the most secure although she’s probably also the least likely one to actually win. Pray that I’m wrong though and we can all meet at her flat in Montmartre for a covid-proof afterparty.

CHICAGO FIRE – FIREWORKS (S01E18)
                                            [car door shuts]
Gabby Dawson: Hey, Chief. I just thought I’d… catch you before
                            shift started.
Chief Boden: You caught me.
Gabby Dawson: Uh, good morning, first of all.
Chief Boden: Morning.
Gabby Dawson: So obviously I heard what I heard last night. And I
guess I’m just trying to figure out what to do about
it now that it’s kind of out in the open.
Chief Boden: It’s not out in the open.
Gabby Dawson: Well, I mean it’s out in the open for me, because I
don’t know if you’re aware or not, but Pete and I
                            are dating.
Chief Boden: I’m aware.
Gabby Dawson: So you may also be aware that Pete’s become
increasingly convinced that people are keeping
secrets from him about his dad, vis à vis…
Are you gonna tell him what’s going on before he
                            hears it from Kelly’s dad?
Chief Boden: Benny Severide is not gonna be coming around 51
                       anymore.
Gabby Dawson: Still, Pete is gonna keep digging until he finds out.
Tumblr media
Chief Boden: Gabby, your dogged inquisitiveness…is one of the
qualities that makes you such an effective paramedic.
But it is of no use to you in this matter, which is a
                       private one.
If you care about Mills like I think you do… drop it.
I’ll see you back at the house.
                                           cutscene
                                  [food sizzling in pan]
Benny Severide: Hey.
Kelly Severide: Morning.
Benny Severide: Morning. We got scrapple and we got eggs.
Grab a seat. There you go.
Kelly Severide: Thanks.
Benny Severide: So, um… Whoritsky’s offered me a teaching post,
and I’m-I’m thinking about doing it. Figured I
could come down and see you ever couple
weeks, hang out. What do you think?
Kelly Severide: Sounds good.
Benny Severide: Will probably have to spend one more shift at the
house. Kind of re-familiarise myself with a couple
of things. So why don’t you tell Boden I’ll be there
                             about noon.
Kelly Severide: What the hell’s going on with you and Boden?
Benny Severide: Look, Wally and me, we go way back. He and I,
one minute we’re at each other’s throats and-and
the next I’m helping to put a new deck on his
house, okay? This is nothing new.
Look, I promise you, I-I’ll be a choir boy, okay?
                             A mute choir boy.
                                                  cutscene
Chief Boden: Keep that 2 ½ on the roof line. I don’t want a flare-up
                       spreading to other buildings.
Kelly Severide: Oh, hey, sir, sir. You’re gonna want to stand back,
                           okay?
Man 1 (Owner): It’s my restaurant, are-are my employees safe?
Kelly Severide: (into radio) Hey, Casey, you got a search status?
Matt Casey: (into radio) Building’s clear, just opening up the ceiling.
Pop a couple of these tiles.
                                               [tiles breaking]
Kelly Severide: Building was empty, your people are out.
Man 1 (Owner): Son of a bitch said I’d pay. I never thought he’d go
                           this far.
Kelly Severide: Yeah?
Man 1 (Owner): Ten years without a grease fire. I opened four
restaurants in the union, suddenly he sees money.
I refused to sign. They send this thug!
Kelly Severide: Sounds like you’re gonna want to talk to CPD.
Man 1 (Owner): What good would that do? This guy’s not gonna
stop until I’m-I’m ruined or dead.
Lady 1 (Owner’s Wife): [sobbing]
Matt Casey: (into radio) Okay, Chief, we’re almost done. Send in
                      engine for the wash down.
                                            [ceiling crashing]
Firefighter: Whoa!
Joe Cruz: Casey!
                                                   - title -
Peter Mills: Lieutenant!
Tumblr media
Joe Cruz: Mills, get out of here!
                 [grunts]
                                     [glass shattering]
Joe Cruz: [groans]
Chief Boden: Hit him with the hose!
Joe Cruz: Come on!
                                     [water spraying]
Joe Cruz: Lieutenant!
Tumblr media
Matt Casey: [grunts] I’m okay [pants]
                      Thanks, Cruz.
                                        [water spraying]
Matt Casey: Seriously, it’s fine. It didn’t burn through my gear.
Leslie Shay: Then what’s this?
Matt Casey: Ow.
Gabby Dawson: Hold still. It’s just a first-degree burn.
Will you give me that bandage?
Couple more seconds of whatever that was that
dumped down on you, it wouldn’t have stopped
                            at the jacket.
Leslie Shay: [sighs] It smells like fuel.
Otis Zvonecek: That’s ‘cause it was. Homemade gasoline fire
                           bombs in the ceiling.
Lady 1 (Owner’s Wife): [sobbing]
                                                  cutscene
Matt Casey: Back door was kicked in. It’s not like whoever did it
was making an attempt to hide it was arson.
Man 2 (James Whoritsky): CPD said they’d back seat to my office
                                             on this one.
Kelly Severide: On that union rep who was threatened by the owner
                           of the diner?
Man 2 (James Whoritsky): Yeah, your owner, Stuart Tuxhorn, filed a
complaint against a, uh, Lou Krinsky
last month. We’re checking it out, but
with a case like this, the evidence is
                                              circumstantial at best.
Kelly Severide: [chuckles] Yeah.
Man 2 (James Whoritsky): Did I say something funny?
Kelly Severide: Yeah, this union guy, if he’s connected to city
politics, you can’t tell me that someone isn’t
already trying to get this buried.
Chief Boden: Look, we’re good here. Just keep us posted.
Kelly Severide: Can I talk to you a sec?
My old man wants to come by the house again.
Chief Boden: Kelly, I don’t think that’s a good idea.
                                            [door closes]
Kelly Severide: Whatever business you guys got, that’s your
business. But he said he’ll be a choir boy and
                           it’s-it’s one more shift.
Chief Boden: Here’s the deal, Kelly. I don’t know what your dad
                       has told you…
Kelly Severide: He hasn’t told me dick.
Chief Boden: Some guys when they retire and they come back
around the job, for some reason, they gotta tear
it down. I’m no psychologist, but your dad, he’s
always been really adept at tearing things down.
So that he’s the only one left standing. He has a
take on how Peter Mills’ father died, and it’s
untrue. And that would hurt Pete if that were
thrown in his face. I will not allow your father to
do it. So it would be in everybody’s best interest
if you were to meet your father in another house.
So… you can tell him. Or I could tell him.
                                               [cell phone rings]
Benny Severide: Hey.
Kelly Severide: Hey. Uh, my buddy Jason Baseden over at Squad
                          One, you remember him?
Benny Severide: Yeah, sure, I remember Jason.
Kelly Severide: Well, he heard you were in town and he was…he
was…he was, like, “get your old man over here!”
It’s a newer house, all the latest bells and whistles
and I can stop by later if we don’t get a call. So…
so stop over there, okay? Jason’s expecting you.
Benny Severide: Yeah, sure, of course. No problem.
                                               cutscene
Gabby Dawson: Hey.
Peter Mills: Hey. Um, hey, don’t be jealous, but, uh, Dolores down
at the records department of the academy… I sent her
a gift basket of cookies and brownies, just trying to
butter her up to try and get information on the fire my
dad died in, and… it worked. She sent me over the
Battalion Chief’s original report. And I am starting to
see why Boden and Kelly’s dad don’t want to talk
about it. Two firefighters dying and the other
fire-fighter’s wife was pregnant with her first child.
Gabby Dawson: Tough to relive through, you know?
Peter Mills: Yeah.
Well, Dolores is still searching, she’s gonna send me
                      anything that she finds.
                                              cutscene
Joe Cruz: [growls]
                                       [dog growling]
Leslie Shay: Hey, guys, what does ‘ebullient’ mean again?
Joe Cruz: No idea.
Mouch: Bull-like. To resemble a bull.
Otis Zvonecek: Means cheerful and energetic.
Mouch: Or that.
Leslie Shay: All right, thanks.
Otis Zvonecek: Why?
Leslie Shay: One of these guys used it to describe himself.
Matt Casey: Any guy that describes himself as ebullient, you don’t
                      want his sperm.
Leslie Shay: Yeah, right. Thanks.
Mouch: How much longer you gonna be on this donor kick?
Leslie Shay: Until I find the right guy.
Mouch: And you can just look at ‘em on your computer.
Leslie Shay: Mmhmm, like I’m doing right now. Correct.
Mouch: I admire your gumption. Most other people would, you
know, keep that behind closed doors.
Leslie Shay: Every time Cindy gets pregnant, Herrmann plasters her
sonogram images all over the fridge. And what? I’m
supposed to hide in a corner?
Mouch: I said I admire your gumption.
                                      [phone vibrates]
Leslie Shay: Well, thanks.
Matt Casey: Hey Heather.
Heather Darden: I was in the neighbourhood.
Matt Casey: Great.
Heather Darden: Hey, um, did you notice an earring in your truck?
                             I’m missing one.
Matt Casey: Uh, I didn’t see it, but I can… I can take a look.
Heather Darden: Thank you.
Oh and by the way, Saturday the kids are staying
with my parents and I was planning on having
dinner with one of my girlfriends, but her dad’s
not doing so hot so she had to fly out to
Jacksonville. But I’ve already got that night free
so I was thinking, why don’t we grab dinner?
                                            cutscene
                                         [alert beeps]
Benny Severide: (over PA) Smoke eater in the house!
Kelly Severide: God damn it!
Benny Severide: Donut man in the house!
                            Donuts, everybody! Donuts!
Firefighters: Oh, hell yeah!
                              [indistinct shouting and cheering]
Benny Severide: Come and get it!
Kelly Severide: Hey, what happened to going to Squad one?
Benny Severide: I didn’t want to.
Come on, you guys, let’s get a donut.
                             Hi, Wally.
You know, I used to bring those to the ladies
in arson all the time. One of them, Ruthie,
she didn’t have anything personal in her office.
I mean, nothing. Not a family photo, nothing.
All she had behind her desk, right in the middle
of her tack board was this quote, “If you can’t
do anything about it, don’t worry about it.” And
I am, like, “Man, this Ruthie is locked into some
                              higher level stuff,” right?
Chief Boden: Benny, can I talk to you real quick?
Benny Severide: Yeah, just a second. So anyway, Ruthie retires
and I go in to say goodbye and I look at the
board and the quote is still there. And I say,
“Hey Ruthie, you forgot your quote.” And she
says, “That’s not mine, that was here when I
                              moved into the office.”
                                                   [laughter]
Benny Severide: All this time I thought she was like this oracle
or something, you know? Anyway, I kept the
quote. What the hell? Couldn’t hurt.
                             Lead the way, boss.
Chief Boden: You’re not welcome here.
Benny Severide: Yeah? Is that why you have my son hustle me
                             down the road?
Tumblr media
Chief Boden: You are not welcome here.
Benny Severide: 25 years on the job, 15 of them in this house.
Nobody tells me when I can come and go!
Kelly Severide: Whatever you two are trying not to bring attention
to, guess what? You’re bringing attention to it.
Benny Severide: We got this, Kelly.
Kelly Severide: No you don’t!
He wants to stay here one more shift, that’s it.
Can you keep your mouth shut while you’re
                          here?
Benny Severide: Who the hell are you to tell me to…
Kelly Severide: It’s a yes or no question!
                                       [knocks on door]
Matt Casey: Lou Krinsky, restaurant workers local 553 is here.
                     Looking to talk to us.
Chief Boden: We’ll be right there.
Matt Casey: Do I need to turn the hose on you guys?
Chief Boden: We’re good. We’re fine. We’ll be right out.
Hmph. You always had all the answers.
But I’m gonna tell you, this is your only shift. You
try and show up again for a second, I will put an
ass kicking on you 20 years in the making.
Benny Severide: Ooh! You still got it, Wally. I was starting to think
all those bugles had turned you into a big
                             marshmallow.
It’s the way it’s always been with me and him.
Kelly Severide: You didn’t own this house. You rented it. And I’m
here now, so show me some respect.
                                            cutscene
Man 3 (Lou Krinsky): Just curious why a report coming from this
house has the arson department trying to
finger me for burning down a restaurant.
Matt Casey: That report conveyed the owner’s statement to us,
                      that’s all.
Man 3 (Lou Krinsky): Oh, okay. Well then, I would like to make
a report. Tuxhorn… rapes baby seals.
Put that in the report, have him have to
                                     defend it.
Chief Boden: This is between you and the fire investigations.
Man 3 (Lou Krinsky): Yeah, and it got that far because you
guys took the word of some sweatshop
owner over that of a fellow union brother.
Why don’t you show some courtesy, talk
                                       to me first.
Kelly Severide: We’re not talking about a busboy who got fired,
                           Lou, this is serious business.
Man 3 (Lou Krinsky): I know. I’m being accused of starting it!
Kelly Severide: We just wrote down what we saw and heard.
Man 3 (Lou Krinsky): [scoffs]
Matt Casey: Guy’s a skull cracker.
                                            [door closes]
                                               cutscene
Leslie Shay: You’re awfully quiet? Everything all right?
Gabby Dawson: All right, let’s… let’s say that if you knew
                            something… What?
Leslie Shay: Nothing.
Gabby Dawson: No, no, no. Don’t give me that. What? What
                             is it?
Leslie Shay: Um…
                      [chuckling]
Gabby Dawson: Ohh… ohh…
Mouch: Oh, goodness gracious.
Leslie Shay: I’m not here to judge you.
Mouch: [stammers] I didn’t… see, that… when… when the…
              what?
Leslie Shay: I’m not here to judge you. I just want to know how
                      it works.
Mouch: Who else knows?
Leslie Shay: No one.
Mouch: Dawson?
Leslie Shay: Just Dawson.
Mouch: Oh Shay.
Leslie Shay: Don’t worry. She’s sworn to secrecy. But, Mouch, I
                      gotta ask. Six foot? 175?
Mouch: I aged out. It was my understanding they were gonna
              take that down.
Leslie Shay: Fine. Look, I got a million questions I’m gonna ask
                      you. Can I? Please?
Mouch: [sighs] Okay, I’m ready.
Leslie Shay: Great. First off, the sperm. Did you…
                                [fire alarm buzzes and blares]
Mouch: Oh!
(Over PA): Truck 81, Ambulance 61. Restaurant fire.
                                          [sirens blaring]
                                          [horn honking]
Kelly Severide: Mr Tuxhorn.
Man 1 (Owner/Tuxhorn): I never should have told you ‘cause
                                           he’s gonna bury me now.
Kelly Severide: Stay back.
Lady 2 (Bus Driver): I’m the one who called. I was making my
stop and I saw a man on fire running
                                   through the restaurant.
Chief Boden: Okay, no one goes in. Hit it from the window. Quick
takedown. If that driver’s right, this is gonna be a
                       recovery.
                                         [water spraying]
Matt Casey: (into radio) Cleared the dining room and bathrooms.
No bodies. Moving into the kitchen.
Kelly Severide: Guess I don’t need to remind you to keep your
                           eyes on the ceiling.
Matt Casey: That’s exactly what I’m doing.
Kelly Severide: Hey. It’s the same entry point as the last fire.
Matt Casey: Wherever he is, he’s long gone.
(into radio) This is Casey. Building’s clear.
                                         [door swings open]
Kelly Severide: Uh Casey…
Matt Casey: (into radio) We need a medic.
                                      [indistinct radio chatter]
Gabby Dawson: [grunts] Let’s turn him over.
Leslie Shay: [grunts]
Gabby Dawson: Agonal breathing. Fire may have scorched his
                            lungs.
Matt Casey: How bad?
Gabby Dawson: I don’t know. Airway looks pretty fried.
Leslie Shay: His arms are burned. Can’t get a line in. He’s got
                      minutes at best.
Gabby Dawson: We move him or lose him. Give us a hand?
Leslie Shay: On three. Very gentle. One, two, three.
Gabby Dawson: (into radio) 61 to Main, let Lakeshore know we
are two minutes out with a burn victim.
Leslie Shay: Dawson…
Gabby Dawson: (into radio) 61 to Main. Cancel that. Victim is
DOA. We will transport from scene for safety.
Dispatcher: Copy that 61… [continues indistinctively]
                                               cutscene
Man 2 (James Whoristsky): Well, we verified it. Krinsky’s alibi
clears him from the second fire.
Matt Casey: Come on, he’s union muscle. He could have had
one of his knuckleheads torch both places.
Man 2 (James Whoristsky): I’m not arguing with that. But as
of now, we don’t have actionable
                                               evidence.
Chief Boden: I got a drawer in the morgue full of evidence. I
don’t care if the man inside is homeless or a
CEO, he didn’t deserve the death he got.
Man 2 (James Whoristsky): Oh, and I think he did? Come on,
                                               give me a break.
Kelly Severide: The guy who owns these restaurants is fearing
                           for his life.
Man 2 (James Whoristsky): We need proof. Do I really need to
                                                explain arson investigation to you
                                                guys? It take a while.
Kelly Severide: Let’s go back to that second fire and look around.
Matt Casey: Yeah. All right.
Kelly Severide: Cool?
Chief Boden: Yeah. Take your dad with you.
Kelly Severide: Chief, he gave his word that he’d keep his mouth
                           shut around here…
Chief Boden: I know he’s a pain in the ass, but he’s a hell of an
                        arson investigator.
Kelly Severide: Oh yeah.
                                           [door closes]
Peter Mills: You know, I could cook you up something if you’d
                     like.
Benny Severide: Oh, that’s all right. Thanks, though.
Peter Mills: I didn’t know that you and my dad were on Squad
together. And um… the other firefighter who died
                    with him.
Benny Severide: That’s right. Ross McGowan. Two years on
the job. About your age. Had his whole life
ahead of him. Never got to meet his daughter.
                             A real shame.
Peter Mills: Yeah, I’m sorry to bring that up. I know it must be uh,
                     really hard to relive.
Benny Severide: Yeah. Never should have happened.
Peter Mills: How do you mean?
Benny Severide: Well, like you said. It’s hard to relive.
Peter Mills: Respectfully, Mr Severide, I get the sense that there’s
something you really want to tell me.
Kelly Severide: Hey. Let’s take a ride.
                                           cutscene
Leslie Shay: So, like the pamphlet says, you just…do it in a cup?
Mouch: No, uh, a…a gossamer-winged stork flies down and…
Leslie Shay: [sighs]
Mouch: Yes.
Leslie Shay: And have you had contact with any of the…
Mouch: With the kids? God, no!
Leslie Shay: Because…
Mouch: I’m Father Flanagan? No way! I treasure my privacy.
Leslie Shay: Damn. It just… seems so impersonal.
Mouch: Let me just stop you right there. My cousin Ted and his
wife, Patty, they tried for a long time, couldn’t conceive.
They decided to go the AI route, that’s shorthand for
              artificial…
Leslie Shay: I got it.
Mouch: Okay. So now they have a lovely daughter Elsa who is
the light of their lives. And that family is filled with
nothing but love, despite the clinical origins.
Leslie Shay: That’s beautiful. I…Is that why you became a donor?
                      Because of them?
Mouch: No. The cash. 125 a pop. That’s what they call a renewable
              resource.
Leslie Shay: I don’t know, man. Might have to figure something else
                      out.
                                            cutscene
                                         [door closes]
Benny Severide: So, Matt, was that Andy Darden’s widow I saw
you with at the academy dinner?
Matt Casey: Yeah, Heather. That was her. She just needed a ride.
Benny Severide: It’s good to see you guys haven’t turned your
                             back on her. That’s important.
Matt Casey: Yeah. Absolutely. I’ll take the back.
Kelly Severide: Both buildings were broken into from the rear
                           entry. Gas accelerants were used.
Benny Severide: Okay.
I don’t know about this teaching gig.
Kelly Severide: Why not?
Benny Severide: Job’s changed too much.
Kelly Severide: It’s almost exactly the same. It’s just better gear.
Benny Severide: Well, the people have changed is what I’m
saying. Back when I came up, you fought a
war at 18. You had kids by the time you were 22.
You’d live a life. You were a man. Now these kids
are coming straight out of their parents’
basements to the firehouse. What the hell can I
                               teach somebody like that?
Hadley: [indistinctive chatter]
Benny Severide: Like him.
Hadley: [laughs]
Kelly Severide: Who? Hadley? He’s fine.
Benny Severide: Yeah. Okay.
Kelly Severide: They still have wars. People still pop out kids. I
don’t know why you gotta piss on everything.
Benny Severide: Rubber. From the sole of a sneaker. That bus
driver was right. Somebody was on fire and
running through here. What was the homeless
                              guy wearing?
Kelly Severide: He had boots on.
Benny Severide: Then we’re looking for somebody else. It
                             wouldn’t be him.
Hadley: So this thing collapses and knocks us down… [laughs]
Kelly Severide: Hadley.
Hadley: Yeah?
Kelly Severide: Quit playing grab ass, would you?
Benny Severide: Look at this. You see that? Pry marks. This door
wasn’t breached from the outside. Somebody
had a key. The owner or somebody he hired.
They let themselves in the front door and then
they pried this open. Make it look like it was
                              broken in from the outside.
Kelly Severide: You gotta be kidding me.
Benny Severide: Inside job.
                                               cutscene
Chief Boden: Thank you. Appreciate it.
15 minutes after the second fire was call in,
18-year-old kid walked into an urgent care unit
five blocks from the scene. He had second and
third degree burns. Claimed it was a barbecue
mishap. Memorial went and picked him up.
                        He’s there’s now.
Kelly Severide: I want to head down there and check it out.
Chief Boden: Kelly…
Kelly Severide: I don’t like getting lied to. I don’t like getting
worked. And if someone other than that union
guy got that homeless man killed, I want to
                          know.
Matt Casey: I got him covered.
Chief Boden: Hit it.
                                     [door closes]
                                  [knocks on door]
Tumblr media
Kelly Severide: What’s up, Omar? Lieutenant Severide, CFD.
Teen 1 (Omar): Oh geez. Damn barbecue. Didn’t know the gas
was on and boom. Lucky I’m alive.
Kelly Severide: Where were you standing?
Teen 1 (Omar): Right in front of the grill, trying to light it.
Kelly Severide: Then how’d you burn your legs?
Teen 1 (Omar): I don’t know. It was a big ol’ fireball, though.
Kelly Severide: Those aren’t barbecue burns, Omar. I’d know.
I’ve responded to 20 of them.
Teen 1 (Omar): I-I swear to God…
Kelly Severide: And they’re gonna test the shoes you were
wearing against the rubber fixed to the floor
in that diner and it’s all gonna go south.
Teen 1 (Omar): Why? For what? I-I didn’t do nothing.
Kelly Severide: A guy was killed in that second fire.
Teen 1 (Omar): No. No, no, no, man.
Kelly Severide: Look, I’m not a cop. I just want to know
what happened and I’ll help you any way I
can before the cops get involved. And
                          they’re gonna get involved soon.
Teen 1 (Omar): Okay. All right, mayb… there’s one thing
maybe you can help me with.
Kelly Severide: I’ll try.
Teen 1 (Omar): It was an insurance scam. Tuxhorn and his
wife wanted two of the diners to go down
and they was gonna lay it off on some union
dude who he was beefing with. And he
asked my dad to help him do it. My dad
owes him a lot of money, so he said he was
in to settle up. But my dad, he got a knee
replacement surgery last year and he ain’t
too quick. So I said I’d do it. I was pouring
the gas… I don’t know. Maybe the fumes hit
a pilot light or something. And I was just
running through the restaurant all on fire and…
Tuxhorn put me out and he took me here and
he said to say it was a barbecue accident.
Look, man, I’ll take the ride for it. I just gotta
leave my dad out of it. Can I do that? Can I
leave my dad out of it with the cops?
Kelly Severide: Don’t bring up his name.
Teen 1 (Omar): Okay. Thank you.
                                              cutscene
Mouch: Did somebody change his food, ‘cause there is
              something going on here.
Peter Mills: Where’s Herrmann?
Matt Casey: Bar management seminar.
                      You guys close to opening?
Gabby Dawson: Uh, a few weeks…hopefully.
Joe Cruz: Hey, uh, Shay, where’s your iPad?
Leslie Shay: Put it away for a bit.
Joe Cruz: Did you find a donor?
Leslie Shay: Regrouping.
Joe Cruz: So you’re not going the whole sperm donor route
                  anymore?
Leslie Shay: What is this, an interrogation? I told you, I’m
                      regrouping.
Otis Zvonecek: So, um, who asked who out? I’m just
                           curious.
Gabby Dawson: [laughs]
Peter Mills: Um, wait. You did, right?
Gabby Dawson: What?
Peter Mills: Yeah, you asked me to dinner that one night.
Gabby Dawson: Oh no, that-that wasn’t a date.
Peter Mills: Damn.
Gabby Dawson: What’s up?
Peter Mills: Dolores from Records, she sent me an email
earlier. I just… I can’t open it on my phone.
I’m… I’m gonna try it in there.
                                        [typing]
                                   [tense music]
                                      cutscene
Chief Boden: Hey, Kelly, great job.
Kelly Severide: Hey, thanks, Chief.
Chief Boden: You too, Benny.
Benny Severide: Thank you. I appreciate that.
How about I get a cup of coffee before
                             I take off?
Kelly Severide: All right.
Leslie Shay: Hey, you got a second?
Kelly Severide: Yeah.
                           What?
Leslie Shay: So how are you?
Kelly Severide: Um, what’s-what’s going on?
Leslie Shay: So here’s the deal. You know I’ve done
                      thorough research on this whole
insemination thing. And today I got… well,
I guess, uh, accidental window into how
the whole process works, and it really left
                      me feeling… hollow.
Kelly Severide: Okay.
Leslie Shay: And you know, I’ve been searching for the
perfect guy to be the father of my baby.
                     Someone honourable, strong, good looking
[chuckles] I mean, sue me. And maybe even
someone who would want to be part of the
child’s life. And someone who would want to
celebrate, you know, how beautiful it could be.
With me… a cool chick who’s not gonna freak
out and they’ll never have to worry about, you
know, me wanting a divorce or trying to take all
their money, or be a bitch or… [exhales] Kelly I
want to know if you’d like to have a baby with
                     me.
Kelly Severide: Look, Shay, I…
Leslie Shay: No, no, no. Let me finish. And we’d go through
                      the insemination process…
Kelly Severide: Um…
Leslie Shay: And… and yeah. Okay that’s it. I’m done.
Kelly Severide: I don’t… I don’t… I don’t know what to say.
Leslie Shay: That’s okay. I just… I just want you to-to think
                      about it.
Kelly Severide: I…
Leslie Shay: Thank you. And listen, if the answer’s no, I mean,
there won’t even be a hiccup between us. It…
it’s okay. It-It’ll be solid Always you and me.
                      Okay?
                                         [kissing sound]
Kelly Severide: Uh…
                                             cutscene
Benny Severide: Okay, that’s it. I’m outta here.
Mouch: Great to meet you, Ben.
Benny Severide: Good to see you again.
Joe Cruz: Such a pleasure.
Benny Severide: Good to see you.
Otis Zvonecek: Thanks for the donuts.
Benny Severide: Yup.
Matt Casey: Take care, Benny.
Benny Severide: Hey.
Peter Mills: Hey. Mr Severide, can I talk to you in private.
Benny Severide: Actually, I’m just taking off. It was nice
                             meeting you.
Peter Mills: Yeah, please… I really need to talk to you.
Benny Severide: Can you make it quick?
Peter Mills: Sure.
Um, the Lambert Tree Award. It’s the highest
award awarded to a firefighter. My father was
nominated and everyone up the line signed off
on it… except for you. Just curious to why.
Benny Severide: Some other time, kid, okay?
Peter Mills: Is this what you’re trying to say to me? Do you
feel bad about not signing off for it? That even
though my father was a hero… and even
                    though he gave his life…
Benny Severide: It’s an award for valor!
Chief Boden: Benny.
Benny Severide: He wants to hear it. I’m gonna tell him.
In the middle of that fire, your father
panicked and pulled off his mask, which
would have been his business, except
another guy died trying to save him. So,
no, I didn’t sign it. Because I could not in
                             good faith reward someone for
                             demonstrating cowardice…
Tumblr media
Firefighters: Whoa!
                      Come on, man!
                      Hey! Hey!
                      Come on!
Benny Severide: Unh!
[panting] You want to know why Boden
thinks your father wasn’t at fault? Do ya?
‘Cause he’s an optimist, I guess.
I’ll see you back at your house.
Chief Boden: Mills… You are off duty until further notice.
Get your gear. Wait for Benny to get off site,
and you go home and you’ll wait to hear
                       from me.
Rest of you, get back to work.
Gabby Dawson: Hey, you okay?
Peter Mills: No.
Gabby Dawson: Look, I totally get what lead up to that
and I am so sorry, but you can’t just go
                            around punching people.
Peter Mills: My dad wasn’t able to defend himself. So I did.
                                  [locker door slams]
Peter Mills: [sighs]
                                         cutscene
Chief Boden: We were all real close. Henry and me. Benny.
Our wives. Then Ingrid and Henry, they
separated. My wife left me. It was during that
time. It just happened. Then I realised that
Henry might have still had feelings for her,
and I may have moved too quick, so I
stepped back just to see. And I was right.
Henry moved back in after a month. Ingrid
always says I broke her heart. So if you
think that there’s something that Peter needs
or wants to know, I’ll go to his place after shift.
                        I’ll tell him.
Gabby Dawson: Is what Benny said true?
Chief Boden: Not from where I was standing.
                                        cutscene
Heather Darden: Matt?
Matt Casey: Hmm?
Heather Darden: You have like, two utensils in this kitchen.
Matt Casey: Yeah, it’s on my to-do list.
Heather Darden: You’ve been busy, huh?
Matt Casey: Yeah, it’s been one thing after another lately.
Heather Darden: Have you been dating? Since Hallie?
Matt Casey: Uh, there was someone for a minute, maybe
                      less. Wasn’t the right time.
Heather Darden: Sorry to hear that.
Matt Casey: What are you gonna do? Damn that smells
good. First home-cooked meal I’ve had
                      since… I don’t even know.
Heather Darden: It sucks having to come home to an
                             empty house, doesn’t it?
Matt Casey: Yeah.
Heather Darden: We don’t have to be alone. We don’t
deserve to be. We’re good people.
                             Why can’t we be happy?
Matt Casey: Heather… I’m really glad you’re here. And
if it was under different circumstances,
believe me… but Andy was one of my best
friends. And he was your husband, and… I
                      think we should honour that.
Heather Darden: You know what? You’re right. Let’s just
                              count our blessings
Matt Casey: Dinner and a movie. Let’s get the movie ready.
                                           cutscene
                                     [knocks on door]
Gabby Dawson: Hey, bruiser.
                                        [door shuts]
                                     [kissing sound]
Peter Mills: What’s the word? You heard anything?
Gabby Dawson: Yeah. I, um, spoke to Boden briefly.
Peter Mills: What did he say?
Gabby Dawson: Well, he hasn’t heard from Benny so
the hope is that he doesn’t raise a
stink. If that’s the case, then hopefully
this thing will stay in house. Boden
says to just sit tight for now.
Peter Mills: That’s all he said?
Gabby Dawson: That’s all he said to me.
Peter Mills: Okay, look… can I just say that even though
                    I’m… maybe in a jam right now, I feel… I feel
lighter. ’Cause since forever I’ve been carrying
around this weight of not knowing. And I could
always just tell that there was something out
there that wasn’t being told to me. At least now
                    I can… I can move on.
Gabby Dawson: Hey… what Benny said isn’t true.
Peter Mills: I don’t want to talk about it anymore, okay?
Gabby Dawson: Baby, it’s not true…
Peter Mills: Look, I-I don’t want to talk about it anymore
                    [exhales]

Matt Casey: Heather.
                          [orchestral music playing on TV]
                                       [TV turns off]
                                          cutscene
Benny Severide: He’s just like his old man. It was Henry
Mills against the world. The guy always
had a problem. So if people want to
knock me for being arrogant or
whatever, let them. At least I was
un-conflicted. And in this job, you
better damn well have that going for
you, or you and your buddy’s badges
will end up on the wall at the academy.
Kelly Severide: Well, I didn’t know his old man, but I
know Peter. And from what I’ve seen,
the kid has heart. He has courage.
Benny Severide: Yeah, well I’ve seen your squad. Maybe
you’re not the best judge of character.
                                              [bag zips]
Benny Severide: Look, Kelly, I…I really did come down
here to spend time with you. I didn’t
mean for any of this to happen. And if
anything I did reflects poorly on you,
I’m sorry about that. I guess your old
man is just a guy stuck in his ways. But
hey… if you can’t do anything about it,
                             don’t worry about it.
                                         [door opens and closes]
                                                   cutscene
                                             [knocks on door]
Kelly Severide: Hey.
Peter Mills: Hey.
Kelly Severide: Listen, I know it’s been on your mind
and, uh, I think you’d be a really great
addition to squad. You’re gonna want
to take Hazmat Tech “A”, Vertical
Rescue and Building Collapse One. If
any of them are full, you let me know I
                           can…I can pull some strings.
Peter Mills: Really?
Kelly Severide: Really. Let’s push it, see what happens.
Peter Mills: Okay.
Kelly Severide: Great.

He Doesn’t Deserve You
Pairing: Lin x Reader
Request: “Hi! Could you do a Lin x reader where y/n gets cheated on and he comforts her and it’s friends to lovers and super fluffy?🥺🥰👉🏻👈🏻” - @brian-mayonnaise
Word Count: 2.1k
Warnings: Cheating and sooooooo much fluff
“Alright I’ll see you tomorrow. Make sure you actually go home and get some rest” I said. I was currently at the Richard Rogers Theater. We had just finished a show and I was talking to my best friend, Mr.Lin-Manuel Miranda. He had a tendency to work too hard, so I was always bugging him to make sure he had time to rest.
“Thank you for your concern. I promise I’ll get some rest. Just for you” he said giving me a hug. I smiled at him and then left his dressing room.
Lin and I had been friends since In The Heights. He pitched the idea of Hamilton to me and I thought it was brilliant. Then he insisted that I play Maria Reynolds. I could never tell my best friend no, so here we were.
Granted, it was a little weird having to kiss my best friend every night. Especially since I had had a crush on Lin when we first met. I quickly realized it would never happen and then I met my current boyfriend, Ryan. Ryan was a great guy and he was charming, but he would never be Lin.
I unlocked my apartment door and I walked inside. “Babe, I’m home” I called out. I heard some commotion in our bedroom. The door was closed and I panicked thinking someone had broken in to the house.
I grabbed the pepper spray that I kept in my purse. I listened closely trying to hear what was going on. Then the door quickly opened and out came Ryan. He shut the door right behind him. I jumped at how suddenly he came into the room.
“Oh it’s just you” I said, with a soft smile. I put my pepper spray back in my purse. I let out a sigh, thinking about how I’d overreacted. I saw that Ryan was just in a robe. “Oh were about to take a shower? I might have to join you” I said, with a smirk and walking toward him.
Then our bedroom door opened again, and a girl walked out. She was also wearing a robe, my robe. “Is this a friend of yours babe?” The girl asked.
I stood their in shock. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I didn’t know whether I should be angry or sad. “You have to be kidding me. You are such an asshole” I yelled as I ran out the door and slammed it shut behind me.
As soon as the door shut, I felt the tears streaming down my face. I had trusted him, we had dated for a year. And he decided to cheat on me.
My mind raced with questions. How long had this been going on? Was this a one time thing? Were there other girls he had been with?
I decided to run to the one person I knew would always be there for me.
I got to Lin’s apartment door and I knocked. I waited and there was no answer. “Of course, he was still at the theater. He is such a workaholic” I thought to myself. I sat down in the hallway and put my head in my hands.
It was then that I lost control of the tears and I just started balling.
I was so embarrassed that I was so upset about this. Ryan didn’t deserve any reaction from me.
Then I heard someone say “Oh my god Y/N?” and run toward me. I looked up and saw Lin kneeling in front of me, with a concerned look on his face.
“What’s wrong?” He asked me, grabbing ahold of one of my hands to comfort me. “I went home and Ryan was with another girl, Lin. What do I do? Did I do something wrong? Was it my fault?” I asked him.
“I am so sorry Y/N” he said as he pulled me into his arms. “None of this is your fault. If Ryan did that, then he is a moron who doesn’t how lucky he was to have you. He doesn’t deserve you and he never did” Lin assured me, as he rocked me back and forth.
So here I was, sitting on the floor outside Lin’s apartment as I balled in his arms and he comforted me. Once I stopped crying as hard, Lin said “Let’s go inside, I’ll make you some tea”.
He helped me up off the ground, and brought me inside. I sat down on his couch and he brought me a blanket and went to make some tea. I wrapped the blanket around myself.
I decided to check my phone. I saw countless texts from Ryan with phrases like “it wasn’t what it looked like” “please just let me explain” and “you’re the only one”.
I threw my phone onto the floor, I couldn’t stand to read the lies. I couldn’t believe I had wasted a whole year of my life dating him.
Lin walked in the room with two cups of tea. He handed one to me and I gratefully took it. “Thank you, I know this isn’t how you thought your night would go” I said. “I’m always here for you” he said to me with a smile.
“Speaking of, you can stay here as long as you like. And if you want time off the show, you can have it for as long as you want” he assured me. Lin has always been so thoughtful and caring. It only made my feelings for him stronger.
I guess I didn’t have to suppress those feelings anymore, since I was no longer in a relationship. That didn’t change the fact that Lin definitely didn’t like me though.
“Thank you, truly. I don’t know if I can go do a show tomorrow. I’ll start with one day off and see how I feel” I told him.
“Like a wise woman once said, “you need to get some rest”. So I’m going to bed and I’ll let you get some sleep” he said, kissing my forehead and going to his room.
I set up the couch that folded into a bed and I heard my phone buzzing on the floor. I figured it was Ryan, but I picked it up anyway. I looked at it and saw it was the Hamilton cast groupchat.
Lin had sent a message in the groupchat saying that I would taking a few days off. There were a bunch of responses, mostly saying get better. Everyone was assuming I was sick, because why else would I not show up.
Then I saw a private message from Pippa. It read “Y/N, I saw Lin’s message. I know you would only not do a show if you were deathly ill. So what’s going on? Are you okay?”. I decided I could tell her the truth.
Y/N: Something happened with Ryan
P: Is he sick?
Y/N: He cheated on me Pippa
P: Oh my god I am so sorry Y/N. Is there anything I can do to help?
Y/N: I don’t think so, I’ll be staying with Lin for the next few days
P: Okay, I’m always here to talk if you need it. I love you sis
Y/N: Love you too, goodnight
Pippa was my closest friend besides Lin. Her, Renée, Jas, and I were all like sisters. I knew my secret was safe with Pippa. I didn’t want everyone in the cast to know. Then, they would all just feel bad for me and I didn’t want their pity.
I put my phone down and fell asleep quickly, tired from the day’s events.
For the next three days, I stayed at Lin’s apartment and missed the shows. Pippa had come over once and brought me icecream and we talked for hours. Our cast mates had been becoming more and more worried. I decided that I was going to do the next show.
Both Lin and Pippa made sure I really was okay, and reassured me that I could take as long as I needed. I knew I had to get back in a routine eventually.
So now I was sitting in my dressing room getting my hair and makeup done for the show. I was blocking out anything I could possibly be thinking about. I wasn’t thinking about Ryan, I wasn’t thinking about my feelings for Lin, my mind was blank. I knew I would get too emotional if I thought about anything like that for too long.
I heard a knock at my door. I looked up and saw Lin peeking his head in. “Oh hi, come in” I said with a smile. “How’re you doing sweetheart?” He asked me, concerned. “I’m feeling ready, hoping this time off won’t make me forget the words” I joked, lightening the mood. “You’re going to do great, okay?” Lin said as he gave me a hug. Then he kissed my forehead before leaving.
I was standing in the wing, getting ready to go on stage. Pippa was standing right next to me and gave me the biggest hug before I went onstage.
We started singing Say No to This, I was doing it completely on autopilot. Still trying to block out all those emotions. We got to the middle of the song and it finally dawned that this scene was exactly like what happened to me. I don’t why it took me so long to connect the two. I realized I was playing the other woman.
Then, I starting thinking about Ryan and how he broke my heart. I knew within seconds I was going to breakdown. I locked eyes with Lin and he knew right away what was happening. I could see his mind spinning, thinking about ways to improv and get me off the stage.
I was holding it together and then all of a sudden, I fell apart right on stage. Leslie was on stage with us at that point. He ran over to me and ushered me off the stage with him. I could hear Lin doing improv and it was actually going well.
Pippa was waiting right there in the wings. She pulled me into her arms and Leslie rushed back on to the stage. “Shh it’ll be okay” she said as held me in a hug. She brought me down to my dressing room and I changed out of my costume, so that my understudy could take over. I assured Pippa that I would be okay so she could leave to go finish the show. I was laying on my dressing room couch in sweatpants and a sweatshirt.
I listened to the whole show and when it got to Burn, I was a complete mess. It completely captured how I had been feeling. Somehow I got through the rest of the show. I heard the show end, then within a minute Lin was in my dressing room.
Within seconds, he had enveloped me in a hug. “I knew doing a show would be too much, I should of stopped you” Lin said into my hair as he hugged me. “I thought I could do it” I told him. “That’s okay, no one expects you to be Wonder Woman and not let emotions affect you. You’re human, it’s bound to happen” he reassured me.
We pulled away and I was transfixed staring into Lin’s eyes. Throughout all of this mess, he had been a constant source of support. He meant so much to me, and everyday I spent with him as I stayed at his house, my feelings only grew stronger.
I couldn’t resist, I found myself leaning in toward him. I realized that he was leaning in too, did this mean after all these years that he liked me too?
Eventually, our lips met and it was magical. I poured all the love I had for him over the years into the kiss. It was like we were both trying to make up for lost time. We both pulled away and just smiled at each other.
Then his smiled faded. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t of done that. You’re going through a lot and I took advantage of that” he apologized quickly. “Don’t you get it Lin?” I asked him. He just had a look of confusion. “It’s always been you, since before Ryan. He was just a distraction. But you’ve always been the one I wanted” I confessed.
“Really?” He asked me. I nodded and before I knew it, he was leaning in to kiss me again. This kiss was shorter, but was just as magical.
“Come on let’s go home, I believe lots of cuddling is in order” Lin said as he grabbed my hand and stood up.

KELLY SEVERIDE
Good to be back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Requested: yes
Prompts: none
Warnings: none
Authors note: Sorry for dissappearing! Writers block is an absolute b and it still isn't gone but I guess it's enough to get me back on track. Much love everyone! 💕
"Good luck sis." Your older brother says behind you. The deep breath you tried to hide pushed through and makes you exhale loudly. After turning your body to face him you make your way to hug him once more.
After a decade of being away from the magnificent city of Chicago, the one you were born in, you finally came back.
Firehouse 51 looks intimidating as you stand before it. "Alright. I'll see you at home."
Your brother leaves you be by entering the car and driving away. With your duffle bag thrown over your shoulder you start walking towards the massive house.
You see several vehicles parked in the driveway, one of them being your new ambulance vehicle. Your eyes roam around your surroundings.
"Hey can I help you somehow? I'm Joe." A good looking man comes up to you. His dementor is friendly and he makes you relax instantly.
"Yeah... Um actually I'm here as the new PIC. Ambulance 61?" You state, unsure if you actually came to the right house.
"Y/LN right? Yeah Chief told us. Come let me show you to his office." He starts walking rapidly fast while talking about all the rooms and people at the house. You struggle to keep up with the information so you decide to just watch and memorise the rooms.
"This is Connie. Connie this is our new PIC." He instructes you to the lady that sits at the desk. She looks really intimidating. She just shoots Joe a look and says, "I know. Hello Y/N. Welcome to firehouse 51."
When Joe tries to open the door Connie stops him, "He's busy right now. But he'll be done in a minute and th-"
Her words are cut off by the office door opening. Two men stride out wearing dark blue shirts meaning that they're lieutenants. The man that comes out second makes your heart beat faster instantly. He just seems really fimiliar to you.
When Kelly exited the office, the last thing he thought he would see was you. Literally the last thing.
"Y/N?" His mouth worked faster than his brain. All it took to get your mouth on the floor was him recognizing you after a decade.
He changed. A lot. He wasn't the boy you saw 10 years ago anymore. He grew up, handsomely too.
"Hey Kelly."
"Casey let's go I need to talk to you." He stated monotonous, acting like he didn't even know you anymore. Your name felt bitter in his mouth and you knew it.
As soon as the duo dissappeared Joe didn't try to hide his discomfort, "Well that was...wierd."
Joe wanted to comment more but his words were cut short by the bataillon chief. "Y/LN you can come in. Thank you Joe for showing her the way."
With a small salute Joe took this as his cue to leave. He wondered what was up with Severide, he never acted like that towards anyone new. When he saw him sitting at the squad table he debated whether to press him to get information or just stay put.
"Please Y/N take a seat. Make yourself comfortable." You couldn't really get comfortable until you got the green light from everyone...but after seeing Kelly you knew that wasn't going to be possible.
"I will keep this short. Leslie Shay is going to help you get settled in the ambulance but I'm sure you'll have no problem."
"Ambulance 61, truck 81, squad 3. Truck collision. South Clark 56."
Just great, you thought. Still not fully trusting your orientation in the firehouse you make your way outside with the chief. Once you spot Kelly next to the squad truck you hesitantly smile at him but he breaks contact and jumps inside.
"Hey I'm Shay? You okay if I drive?" A pretty blonde comes up to you. Your eyes are still locked on the squad truck and so the words slip just slip out. "Yeah sure."
"Oh my God! Finally someone with some sense," She rambles on happily while you sit in the passenger seat. "I mean it might take a while for you to get used to this... But take the wheel whenever you want! Or don't. Please don't. But I mean you can. Obviously..."
Fits of laughter overcome the nervousness in the ambo. "I'm Y/N."
Her eyes flash with something unknown to you. It's like she's trying to remember something... Or someone.
"Well nice to meet you partner." She smiles and makes a turn. "A little heads up. Collisions aren't that bad here in Chicago. We just have to squeeze into the vehicle. But don't worry! The guys make sure nothing happens to us."
Aren't that bad, she said.
Her words were proven to be false when you arrived at the scene. It was a terrible sight.
Two big loaded trucks smashed right into each other. The bigger truck now hanged over the cliff with the driver in his seat.
"Squeeze in you said Shay." You repeat her words and exit the ambo.
Where you lived you never had calls that big. You now doubted your abilities. Especially because you don't know anyone to ask for help except for Kelly who gave a honest impression that he doesn't like you anymore.
"Okay squad, truck, let's get them out!" A man who's uniform read Casey announced. You grabbed the jump bag and followed them. The man that didn't hang from a cliff seemed to be lost in his thoughts when you came to him.
"Y/N I got him." Shay suddenly appeared beside you. "They need you there."
Confused about her words you told her, "But I don't know them or how they work."
"You're the PIC though," She held the man's head to protect his neck. "Look I know about you and Kelly and trust me when I say that he'll come back to his senses soon. But you can't let that affect the job. Go!"
You didn't have to be told twice as you detached yourself from the truck and ran towards the huddle. "Where do you guys need me?" You asked. To your suprise Kelly ignored the tension and walked towards you.
"We need you inside with him he's in pretty bad shape." He explained and grabbed the ropes, his rough hands and strong arms connected you to his ropes securely. No matter how much you tried you couldn't ignore the different type of connection that was growing between you.
"I'm sorry I left Kelly." You spoke truthfully.
He glanced up at you before putting his hand behind your back and walking you through the plan. "Just be safe."
***
"Sir stay with me okay?!" You were trying to keep him stable while Kelly connected ropes to him as quickly as he could. He won't be able to make it unless you get him out now. "Kelly we don't have a lot of time!"
"Done! Cruz get him out now!!" Both squad and truck were trying hard to get him out without putting too much weight onto the hanging vehicle. After they get him out the two of you were next and until then you were stuck inside.
"You know I didn't have a choice?" You tell him. You want him to know you didn't just abandon what the two of you had.
"Y/N now is not the time."
Words were forming in you brain but before you could say them the weight of the truck shifted and the two of you sank with it. Before you could grab onto the rope your body shifted backwards and you almost flew through the broken window.
"Hey!" Kelly reached out and grabbed you. The look of fear in his eyes was evident and made you realise that this is the right time.
"You do realise we're only going to say what's on our mind not that we're closer to death than life?" Your words are meant to be a bit sarcastic and you voice is supposed to sound light but it turns out to be none of those things.
"Stop joking," Kelly sighs and helps you settle back in as carefully as possible. "You wanna know why I'm acting the way I am?"
You only nod.
"Because you left me when I wanted to tell how much I love you."
You're so struck by his words that you forget where you are.
"And because you left and made me think that I did something wrong."
He tries to avoid your eyes by looking back at the rest of the firefighters that are getting the patient safely on the ground.
"Kelly..."
"No forget it." He waves his hands but you aren't letting it go. Instead you do what you wanted to do for years and years. You lean in and kiss him.
With that one careful kiss you apologise for everything that happened.
You're scared Kelly will pull away but he only returns the kiss. He pulls away only when the other ropes arrive gives you his famous smile that made you fall for him all of those years ago.
"We're not done yet." He starts connecting more ropes to your body and the tension is higher than it ever was before. "You still have a lot to apologise for."
You wonder how to do it and smile.
Six words: It is good to be back.

Saturday an overarching day that's both conduit and shelter for souls in transition.
Thoughts of the more disturbing kind and their covert operations intrude even in our leisure time.
Little did I know what lay ahead.
All these scenarios flashed across my mind as the wheels of my car screeched to a halt.
Shafts of radiant sunlight revealed an embroidered placard.
A cryptic but apocryphal question -
Going somewhere?
Light green brush strokes and entwined leaves garnished the borders of this plaque.
A hitchhiker appeared with the most expressive eyes.
Like shining windows openly admitting the rush of a golden dawn.
A rippling nuanced voice spoke.
“Hello, I'm Lelia. Life is a series of stops
and strange encounters.
A journey of some kind.”
Thought-provoking stuff!
She extended her supple skin right hand.
“Hop in.
I'm Joshua King. Going anywhere in particular?"
I enquired archly after the ritual handshake.
"Besides going somewhere or nowhere in particular.”
I continued.
"In one sense I'm not sure. But there is this place we should all go to.
You'll know what I mean later.”
Lelia mysteriously.
"Not to worry.
Travel is therapy for me."
What made me, Joshua King , say that?
The mind can be overpopulated with figments.
Frustrated figments waiting for that freedom dash.
Some have the seeds of alternative visions.
A svelte lady wearing an azure blue padded jacket and sea blue denims glided gracefully into my car.
Hatha yoga asana entry.
My pinstripe attire seemed conventional.
It was at odds with this philosophical journey man.
"Love the aroma ....air freshener.
Orchard in a vehicle tantalising nostrils.
Symbol of attempted purge."
Her voice dropped a few keys to a lower register.
Redolent of metaphysics classes I had to abandon.
I was naive enough to believe that attending these courses would fix my “issues.”
They were more than just momentary bugs.
They couldn't be spray canned away.
I was, however, adept at avoiding their resolution.
Draft dodger or fugitive adept.
My “issues” were other "selves.”
I called them timid, anxious, fidgety, scrupulous withdrawn.
“What’s more I chat to them.
Under my breath. These chats I call the "whispers.”
Will Lelia notice?
Will she spot them?"
My twin brother Jonah, a twin in every sense could point out my tendency to flee.
We spot each other’s flaws with aplomb.
The twinning of tortured psyches.
Banter between mirror images of real selves!
Jonah was an integral part of these "whispers" too!
All these thoughts were doing hula hoops in my head as Lelia made herself comfortable.
In the process peculiarities surfaced which seemed more than the usual passing quirks.
"I'm Lelia, again. Don't forget. You probably won't.
This place I alluded to is but a distance from here.
Distance is a gulf whose magnitude is shaped by it's smoothness of passage.
Or the fate that awaits one at journey’s end.
My destination is another world altogether."
A lady who could structure her sentences with the adroitness of a cryptic crossword clue setter.
Tapping me on the shoulder at the most obscure angle she extended her hand again.
Her fingers and thumb spatially arranged with the tutored
stillness of a TM Guru.
Was that repetition a neurotic oddity or a symptom of a deeper malaise?
I nodded to the said hand gesture.
We both brushed this bizarre incident off as it had no instant moment.
It seemed as if I was talking to someone quite out of the ordinary.
The spot on asides and the strict avoidance of that verbal litter referred to as small talk suggested as much.
Pauses. They did surface periodically.
The silence was then punctuated by a sudden remark.
"All those conifers. Look at how they reach out to the sky.”
This was just the start of one of Lelia’s poetic observations.
“They seem so close yet isolated.
There is something almost within their grasp.
Almost.”
Lelia nonplussed.
“See the adjoining fields. The green is but a cover. They are as neighbours in a high rise flat.
One could say they are both connected and disconnected at the same time.
As for those dips in the valleys? Well, they could signify some sort of rise and fall."
Lelia resting her case momentarily.
“A resurrection. After the fall.
Oh the Lazarus within us all."
Joshua deadpanned.
“I'm a bit of a writer and maths researcher.”
I proffered.
"Recluses some say.
Oh, I didn't mean you
Necessarily.”
Ouch, said my shattered Id.
Lelia, archer of the scar inflicting verbal.
Bow and arrow baroness of stinging broadsides.
This offshoot to our conversation was infused with a wry allusion.
Insight on a whim. Fleeting.
We both laughed at the incongruity of a conversation that had become very elliptical in form.
Tangents cropped up as impetus to the other person's willingness to reveal themselves.
Lelia didn't exactly volunteer her vocation but left clues.
“You didn't say what you did?
Student ...essayist ...author."
Me sounding Lelia out.
“Oh no children….dashing right across the road in front of us.
Squealing with delight. Whoops of innocent joy? They are sticking out their tongues now!”
Hair-raising moment I hadn't anticipated.
I spied Lelia sticking her tongue out at those reckless varmints.
She stopped the minute I noticed.
“Children …….sometimes you have to act like a kid when dealing with kids."
Straight and to the point from this hitchhiker.
She now resumed the thread of an earlier topic.
“Work ….you asked about work.
I sort of work and play with the mind.
Play act too.”
A retort of sudoku like complexity.
As I digested lelia’s response it dawned on me how much like people my "selves”were.
Even when driving I "dialogued” those various aspects.
“You've an interesting face. The face is like a map, I say.
Heard you mutter about your "selves."
Leslie being cheeky..
Silence as challenge started to creep in.
Russian roulette within the rules.
“Watch your driving, there." Lelia in a more down to earth tone.
Her different voices now somersaulting..
“Very quite aren't we, Josh?"
Josh mark you!
Sounding me out like an interrogator trying to crack a stubborn suspect.
Without a word of warning Lelia raised her voice and got into a tantrum.
“What's the matter ….lost something ?”
Joshua said anxiously.
A curious search resembling a scrum ensued.
Then more silence..
I craned my neck and spotted an uncanny regression.
Lelia talking to herself in a child like manner and then changing tack..
“Don't worry. Found what I was looking for.”
Another void.
A tense lull. A little lockjaw appears when the juice runs out of discourse.
I squinted in the mirror once more.
This time Lelia was talking to her palm..
Staring vacantly at it she kept repeating the name Linda.
Lelia continued oblivious to what I saw or might be thinking.
She hummed this strange lullaby..
Suddenly my "selves" surfaced in an uncontrollable flurry.
I tried to suppress them but failed abysmally.
The "whispers and selves" started to have a life of their own.
This car is getting a bit crowded.
It's being converted into a train with fantasy passengers on board.
The sort one hears late at night hurtling through the countryside with dim lights flickering.
Both inside and outside this vehicle a tumult of events was taking place.
Out of the blue the rain poured heavily.
“The gods or the elements must be cross or something.” Lelia opined.
“Let’s get introduced to my playmate in a palm.
Linda, these are Joshua’s true other selves.”
Lelia chuckling.
A comic situation arose where I changed my voice for each of my "selves" by way of introduction.
My great powers of concentration helped while driving.
"Pleased to meet you, Linda.”
Lelia altered her voice when teasing all my "selves."
She had some experience as a ventriloquist.
But Lelia was having this hypnotic effect too.
I was being manipulated.
One by one my highly personalised complexes were being extracted and subject to a rigorous grilling.
This was some hitchhiker.
Was this car journey now becoming a high rent farce or a mock therapy session from an amateur shrink?
The rain continued to lash and my other "selves" felt like the last sting of a dying wasp.
A certain lightness ensued.
Almost as if my “aspects” were floating away.
For the first time my "other selves“ didn't seem to have this grip on me.
But deep down I knew I wanted to keep a little of them.
Although they were a burden they did have their positive aspects.
“Jonah … he still bugs doesn't he.
He’s almost like one of those "other selves!"
The "whispers" I heard earlier … I've a very delicate ear.
Those under the breath "whispers" gave the game away.
The names and complex relations between them."
Lelia now probing very deeply.
The wind howled and the rain splashed across the bonnet like seafront waves.
There was a warped synchronicity..
As my complexes receded so did the thunderous weather.
They were working in tandem.
“Wash it all away. Come on, come on
See me waving my wand.”
Lelia chanted.
The Exorcist film had nothing on this.
Before his very eyes Joshua's "reticence" and the other "selves" were disappearing virtually.
Against the backdrop of all this inner and outer ferment Lelia kept looking out the window.
Was that this home she mentioned earlier getting closer as Joshua was
"going home” to himself?
“Windows are amazing.
They show us the world but sometimes screen us from it.”
Lelia wiping
fog from the car window.
“Trees and branches swaying. Clouds darkening.
Thickening ominously.
Exodus of pedestrians seeking answers.”
Her voice penetrating Joshua.
“Am I being cleansed of what they call inner demons?"
Joshua panic stricken.
"This other worldly person has me spellbound.
There's a chessboard in this moving vehicle.
A total stranger has me in her palm.” .
Lelia assumed various postures.
As Joshua was the driver she didn't want to send him to sleep.
Lelia's voice was either a hypnotist's drone or excited sports commentator.
Joshua could never forget this encounter.
“Don't forget Jonah too. Joshua wherever he might be.”
Her sinister tone rising.
“The name on your credit card.
I found it earlier when searching for my script.
Joshua Jonah king.”
Joshua confessed he was an only child.
“Am I a prisoner?.
Must button my lip.
I'm being freed and incarcerated by this person, the likes of whom I've never met before.”
Joshua felt this final therapeutic process coursing through him.
Very little was left of his "selves", “whispers.”
Joshua drove through a stoically preserved area whose haunting nature was blurred by this encounter.
“Terrible to have all these half worlds revealed with such clinical accuracy.”
Joshua to himself.
Lelia's voice gradually lost its domineering tone.
At this point by accident or design the tense atmosphere eased.
“You are probably wondering where this is all going to end.
Maybe I have whispers, Jonah's and selves to face too.”
A casual Lelia random comment.
On this occasion a composite of adult confidence and infantile charm.
“Oh here we are, this place.
She stated.
Joshua had undergone a sea change catharsis due to the “selves” and “whispers” being evacuated.
“Should I thank this lady or what? I’ll never be the same again but is that for the right reason?
Jonah my make-believe twin. Don't really need him do I?”
Joshua pondered.
“Back to earth my dear.
This is where we shake hands and part.”
Lelia again.
“Better change the name on that credit card.
Keeping stuff like that from credit card companies could land you in trouble.’
A cackle from Lelia this time.
“See that building. That's what I meant early on.
It's called Another World School of Acting.”
Lelia alighted and pointed to this centre.
"Acting is therapy. That's their motto.
Therapy in every sense!
But you don't want to take every word I say literally do you?
Forgot to mention they are auditioning for a play.
It's called “Inside The Split Mind." She said.
"Wonder will I get the part?”
As she leant over to shake hands her eyes had a certain lost look about them.

even death won’t part us now (2/?)
Tumblr media
Summary: Two covens, both alike in dignity, / In fair New York, where we lay our scene, / From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, / Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes / A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life; / Whole misadventured piteous overthrows / Do with their death bury their sires’ strife. (Captain Swan + West Side Story + vampires. But not as sad. Probably.)

A/N: I was going to post this update yesterday but *life*. We really get into the story, though—I hope you enjoy it! Thanks again to @optomisticgirl for being an awesome beta; to @thesschesthair for her amazing art; and to @kmomof4 and @cssns for putting this event on and pushing me to continue this story!
say what you will about Glee, but Darren Criss’s version of this song is amazing
part two— the air is humming, and something great is coming...
2020
The sun was setting on another day, just like it had for the last 5000-plus. At least, Emma figured the number was up there; she’d stopped counting around day 4,588. Which was really an absurdly long time to count considering her days were no longer numbered, but old habits died hard, even if she never would.
She’d accepted that fact somewhere around day 4,040, which ironically was her 40th birthday. But instead of dealing with gray hairs and wrinkles and aching joints, she was still in her 28-year-old body, fairly spry and with exactly one white hair blended into her blonde. (Not that she could see it in the mirror anymore—or, you know, anything—but she knew it was there and that was all that mattered.)
She knew she’d finally settled into her new life when she was looking forward to drinking the deer blood she had at home and not longing for chocolate cake like she had the past several birthdays. Well, she still wished she could eat it—real food didn’t digest properly anymore—but the blood sounded just as good.
“It probably took me about that long to come to terms with it, too. Longer for your dad,” her mom had told her about the revelation.
That had been another epiphany: that the kindly undead couple she’d somehow ended up on the doorstep of—David and Snow Nolan—were her parents. Her actual birth parents. You know, the ones she’d been looking for her entire mortal life? (Had once dreamed would save her from one shitty foster home after another until she finally gave up hope, and instead turned to counting the days until she moved again?)
As it turned out, they’d been attacked and turned shortly after she’d been born—which apparently had been in a backwoods cottage in Maine that her grandparents had owned—and were taking her to the hospital for checkup after the fact. They didn’t trust themselves to face their new reality while also in charge of an infant (an infant with delicious-smelling blood, no less—creepy, but true) and so finished the journey to the hospital, but left her there alone.
Coming to terms with that had taken 1,187 days. There would have been lots of tears, were any of them able to cry; but instead, there was just a lot of emotion, which Emma had never dealt well with. But she was getting better. Who knew the kind of personal growth one could achieve after death? And it was a good lesson in how to handle (or not handle) things should the son she herself gave up ever manage to track her down.
(She looked—once, before she was turned. All she’d been able to find out was that he ended up in the foster system, too. She just hoped he was having a better time of it than she did. Well, had—he’d be an adult by now, wouldn’t he? Damn.)
So. Anyways. Sunset. Which Emma was watching from the roof of their building, which had become something of a refuge for her over the past 15 years. She had her own bedroom, but after so long on her own, being an adult suddenly under the same roof as her parents (who, despite being physically younger than her, still acted like her parents) was a bit stifling at times.
It wasn’t much, but it was her own space: she’d cobbled together a tent with some reclaimed tarps, filled with gently-used cushions, and on nice nights, would bring out a sleeping bag and let the lights and sounds of the city wash over her. It had been overwhelming at first—she kind of envied that her parents only had to deal with forest smells when they turned, and not the incredible everything of New York—but it had dulled over time, which she probably should have expected; it had only taken her a week or so to get used to the smell the first time, right?
That’s to say—the overwhelmingness did; she learned to tune things out and let them fall to the background. But her senses themselves were the sharpest they’d ever been, consequently making her even better at her job than she’d been pre-death. Having ethereal beauty compared to a mere mortal easily drew in most of her targets; her preternatural sight, hearing, and strength made it pretty simple to track them down and subdue them (she loved it when they ran); and she’d found out they were extra willing to comply with her demands when they were down a bit of blood. (It probably was connected to the whole your-sire-can-control-you thing but it didn’t last once they’d recovered from the blood loss and it kept her from murdering random ne'er-do-wells on the street; the lower a body count a vampire kept, the better.)
On a normal night, she’d be getting ready to catch another skip: either gussying up for a honeytrap, revving up her old Bug for a stakeout, or trying to track them down on Tinder while binging Netflix in the background (they kept up on technology...for the most part; she still wasn’t sure what a TikTok was). One thing a lot of the stories leave out is that it takes a long time to build up the kind of wealth and decadence you see with old vampires; even Emma’s parents still had to work, 40-odd years into this thing (David was an after-hours vet and Snow taught night school) and their townhouse was not rent-controlled.
Of all the vampire media out there, their existence was far more What We Do In The Shadows than Twilight.
(Emma had always preferred comedy anyways.)
God, she was really getting sidetracked tonight. Anyways. No one was working because it was the anniversary of her being turned—her rebirthday, so to speak—and her mom was very much Leslie Knope when it came to anniversaries, but especially this one, given that it marked them finally coming together as a family.
That, and they were all going to get drunk.
“My class is a bunch of assholes this semester—I need this,” Snow had gushed earlier that week, grading papers behind their blackout curtains. (Vampires didn’t sparkle, thank god—at least, not without the help of glitter—but they were dangerously susceptible to sunburns, so the whole pale thing was accurate.) “And David—you’ve worked every weekend the last month; they can definitely operate without you for one night.”
“I put in for it a month ago, dear,” he tutted as he gathered the laundry, placing a kiss on her cheek as he went.
They were definitely one of those nauseatingly cute couples, so it was a good thing Emma’s gag reflex was dormant. And, though she’d never admit it, she was a bit jealous that they’d been able to find—and keep—something that had evaded her her entire mortal life, and likely would for her afterlife, too.
Every now and then, a flash of blue eyes blinked into her vision; the same pair she’d seen on the night she transitioned. She still wasn’t sure they were real, and her parents genuinely knew nothing when she’d asked, so she never did again. The fact that she hadn’t ever seen them again, despite knowing just about all the vampires in this part of town (for better or worse), had her pretty convinced it was a mania-induced hallucination. But damn, was it a good one.
“Emma, are you ready?” Snow’s voice pulled Emma from her daydreams (nightdreams?). “It’s time to go,” she shouted—not loud enough to annoy the neighbors, but enough for Emma to hear.
“Coming,” she replied, then took one last glance at the night sky. Maybe there was something different in the stars? She didn’t know; she just had this feeling that something was going to change tonight.
She brushed her hands down the skirt of her light pink dress; it wasn’t what she’d usually wear, but since this wasn’t her typical honey trap, she’d borrowed a dress from Snow. It was definitely sweeter than her taste, with its pastel color and A-line skirt, but just cut low enough to not be demure. Her high ponytail fell somewhere in between. Her fangs would probably take it in another direction, but it’s not like she was going to pose for photos—she only just showed up in those.
In a moment, she was back in the house, grabbing her purse and joining her parents (who equally straddled the line of sweet and seductive; it was a vampire thing).
Out of nowhere, a flash of light blinded her. “Seriously?” she cursed, blinking away the temporary blindness, only to see her mother holding a Polaroid camera. That was the one thing that could document them; thank god the hipsters over in Greenwich Village had clung to them.
Snow just grinned and shook the picture while David lectured, “It’s not like we got to see you off to prom or anything.”
“Yeah, but are you going to do this every year?”
“Yes,” Snow stated matter-of-factly, smiling at the photo before setting it aside. “Now come on; there’s a bloody mary calling my name.”
“Where are we going?”
“That new underground club at 43rd and 10th. Figured we should try it, and it should be trouble-free.”
‘Trouble’ meaning the Aurum coven. Emma still hadn’t figured out the reason for this centuries-long blood feud, but she did know that she’d been dragged in on the side of Coroza, under a woman named Cora; turns out Walsh had been one of her cronies. And it normally wouldn’t affect her, save for the fact that her parents were turned by someone in Aurum (led by the mysteriously mononymed Gold) and that had dangerous implications, not to mention the rising tensions between the two groups as they began to encroach on each other (and each other’s feeding grounds) on the Upper West Side.
“You sure? That’s awfully close.” 43rd had become an arbitrary border between the two factions, and there had been more than a few skirmishes while people were on the prowl for a midnight snack. She’d had a couple close calls of her own while tracking down skips in the part of town, but had somehow managed to evade notice.
“It’s on our side of the street,” her mom shrugged in response and grabbed her purse.
(Why one side couldn’t just move to another part of town, Emma didn’t know, but she was definitely aware of how stubborn vampires could be. And she wasn’t going to move; there’s no way they’d be able to get a place like this anywhere else for a reasonable price.)
She’d hardly gotten out the door when a familiar scent caught her nose—and not necessarily a welcome one: Graham.
“Uh, hi, Emma,” he stammered, while giving her a shy yet adorable grin.
“Hey,” she answered back, not meeting his eyes—and instead finding Snow’s, who was intently studying the sky. Snow had been trying to get the two of them together for at least 10 years, and while Graham was a great guy, a good friend, and handsome to boot, Emma had never been attracted to him like that. A fact that seemed to keep falling silent on Snow’s ears despite her enhanced hearing.
(His blue eyes were pretty, but they weren’t the pair that kept haunting her.)
Given the sudden awkwardness that settled over the group—because that was apparently something you had to deal with whether you were dead or alive—it was up to Emma to break it. Not that she had any skill in that department.
“Alright, uh, let’s go,” she said with little confidence, and set off towards the club, with the others falling in behind her; Graham stayed close and if she wasn’t mistaken, attempted to put an arm around her, but she walked a bit faster to avoid his reach. The bar was only a few blocks away, which they could normally cover in less than a minute, but they had decided to blend in with the crowd tonight; it was nice to be normal every now and then.
But still—every now and then, the hairs on the back of Emma’s neck rose, and it had nothing to do with Graham’s proximity. Something was coming; she just didn’t know what.
That wasn’t for her to worry about tonight, though. Tonight was for fun and drinks and dancing. And once they got to the darkly-lit club, that’s what she focused on for the next hour or so—
—Until her gaze locked with the blue eyes from her dreams.

Killian took a deep breath as soon as he exited the jetway—and immediately regretted it. He didn’t know why he expected LaGuardia to have changed at all in the past 15 years. Despite all the reconstruction, it still smelled the same: of old coffee, questionable sushi, and stale humans. (The latter was a double-edged sword: despite eating shortly before he got to Heathrow, there had been a few delays before takeoff and he was feeling rather peckish now, although nothing here seemed appetizing. Which was probably something he had in common with mortals at the moment.)
He didn’t know why he’d assumed that he might have been routed through JFK this time—why would he think Gold would care enough to properly welcome home his best operative from abroad after 15 years?—but he tried to push that ire to the back of his mind as he summoned an Uber.
At least the delays meant he landed just as the sun was setting; his previous plan had been to hang around the terminal until dusk, so at least this prevented any awkward encounters with some overtalkative Midwesterner on their way back to Cleveland. Signs pointed him to the ride share lot, and a gentleman named Marco was waiting to take him home.
On the ride into the city, he marveled at how New York always seemed like a living, breathing thing, constantly evolving and changing. He could still sharply remember the dusty bustle of the town more than 200 years ago, the sound of carriages running over dirt and cobbled streets. He’d watched as the city grew, sprawling both across and beyond the Manhattan island and up into the sky, the smell of horses and people and sweat replaced by the acrid stench of exhaust (although, even his extra-sensitive nose had gotten used to it in short order).
So it was both surprising and not to see how much the city had changed even in the last 15 years, most noticeably in the skyline: the Twin Towers were still fresh in everyone’s memory when he’d left, so to see the new One World Trade Center in their place was a bit jarring. But the sun still glinted golden off the skyscrapers the same way; pedestrians still hardly waited for the crossing signals to give the okay to go; and though he wasn’t in a yellow cab, a language barrier still lay between him and his driver.
Cash tips were understandable to all, though, which Killian handed over once they’d arrived at his apartment building on 34th—the Chelsea side. He’d owned his flat since the building was constructed, which was fairly impressive, but did require him to occasionally change the name on the paperwork lest anyone notice anything suspicious.
(Someone had figured out at some point that it was helpful to have an ally in both the Social Security office and the DMV; Archie and Jefferson traded off every 20 years or so in order to help create revolving identities for the members of the vampire community. The name on his ID at the moment was Kyle Johnson, and during the past 100 or so years since he’d been required to have one, he’d also been Killian James, Ian Joseph, and—though he had to admit, he’d picked this one just to see if he could get away with it—James Hook.)
And thankfully, he’d had a reliable roommate for the past 80 years. “Honey, I’m home,” he called out after braving the still-shaky lift to the top floor.
“About bloody time,” Robin called back from the couch. “You know I had dinner ready for you before you left?”
“Ha,” Killian answered. “I’d hate to see what that looks like after all this time.”
“Oh, I let him go. And good thing, too—he ended up writing Hamilton.”
Killian had barely poked his head into his musty bedroom before he returned to the living room. “You didn’t actually have Lin-Manuel Miranda in here, did you?” To most people’s surprise, Killian was a bit of a theater nerd; the West End was great, but he was looking forward to catching up on Broadway again.
“No. But maybe that’s a good strategy if we want to get tickets.”
“I’ll keep it in mind.”
His stomach grumbled in agreement.
Robin chuckled. “There’s a bottle in the fridge you can have; figured you’d be hungry when you got back.”
Killian tossed his luggage in his room and emerged again. “Have I ever mentioned that I love you?”
“Maybe a few times over the past several decades.”
He downed the bottle quickly; the black blood market never gave the best stuff—considering the type of mortals who would be willing to sell their blood for money and didn’t qualify to sell plasma—but it hit the spot in a pinch, and every now and then had something good. This definitely wasn’t, but it sated his thirst long enough to take a shower and wash the airplane off of him.
As he stared at the fogged mirror with nothing looking back at him, rubbing his palm over his permanently well-trimmed scruff, he realized he hadn’t yet checked in with Gold. Even if he’d spent the last decade-plus doing the man’s bidding from abroad, it was still easy to forget about him.
Well, mostly—until he glanced back down at his blunted left wrist. Then it just brought ancient memories to the surface, as fresh as the day they’d happened, no matter how many centuries had intervened.
Which reminded him: he was still missing something. He shot off a quick missive to Gold as he pulled some clothes out of his depressingly dated closet (having left anything more modern in a consignment shop in London), managing to put together something vaguely timeless. But before he dressed, he turned his attention on the nightstand drawer.
He slowly pulled it open, though he knew what would be inside: his hook, as sturdy and sharp as ever, with its well-worn leather brace. Sure, he had a fairly modern prosthetic hand—one that TSA didn’t mind so much—but the hook had come first, and was definitely his preferred artificial appendage. He hadn’t meant to go so long without it, but then again, he hadn’t expected his London assignment to take so long.
(Although, 15 years to him was roughly the same as 2 or 3 to the average mortal.)
Slipping on the soft leather was like greeting an old friend (well, another one, albeit he’d known this one longer than Robin). And snapping in the hook settled a part of him that he hadn’t realized had been adrift all these years. It didn’t fully still the odd sense of anticipation he’d had ever since he landed, but he definitely felt more at ease.
With that settled, he finished dressing and then headed back to the living room and flopped on the sofa next to Robin. “When did we get a new couch?” he asked indignantly, inspecting the unfamiliar upholstery.
“As soon as you left.”
“And what was so wrong with the previous one?”
“It was from the 70s! It was hideous and uncomfortable and you know it.”
Killian could only sigh; Robin was completely right.
“Anyways,” Robin continued. “We’ve plenty of time to argue about furniture but very little to decide what we’re doing tonight.”
“Why? What’s tonight?”
“You arrive back in North America for the first time in a decade and a half and you think that’s not a reason to celebrate?”
“Well, I was in Toronto a few years ago.”
“Still the Commonwealth. Doesn’t count. What do you want to do? There are quite a few people anxious to see you.”
Well that’s good for them, he thought, but he wasn’t so sure of the same. The time away in the UK had definitely made him reconsider some of his connections back here in the States; getting away from the drama with Coroza had made him realize how petty he found it all. Though he’d never be completely extricated given that Gold was his sire, he’d definitely be alright with staying distant from the other frivolous disputes.
(And after spending a bit too much time in Brighton—particularly with some headstones bearing the name Jones and some rather divy taverns that were still somehow open all these centuries later—he wished more than ever to be free of Gold’s influence. Alas.)
He supposed he could placate them for one night, though; it’s not like he was going to sleep anyway. “Are there any new clubs to check out?”
“For you—plenty. For all of us...aye, there’s one that’s just opened up about...10 blocks away? Ish?”
“In which direction?”
“Up, but kind of midtown so it should be in the clear.” Meaning no one from Coroza would be there.
“Sounds fine, then,” he replied; after so many years, every club started to feel the same, but he was willing to give it a shot.
It wasn’t long before he found himself dressed in a waistcoat and slacks that were trendy a decade ago, hoping his hair was styled appropriately (he stopped caring about 130 years ago), and waiting outside the apartment building of Robin’s girlfriend Regina.
“Jones, it’s the 21st century; why do you still have a fish hook on the end of that arm?” she greeted when she emerged from the tower, with a young vampire behind her.
“It’s nice to see you too, Regina,” he tossed back. They’d known each other for well over a couple hundred years and this was just how they communicated. Nodding at the young man, he continued, “Who’s this?”
“This is Henry; he’s new.” The statement was matter-of-fact enough that Killian knew she wouldn’t say anything else. But he seemed friendly, albeit nervous, and Gold never complained about new vampires on their side—just Coroza.
It didn't take much for him to immediately think of Emma. His thoughts had drifted to her more than he cared to admit over the past years, wondering if she’d acclimated or if she’d burned out. It was definitely odd that such a brief encounter had left such a lasting impression, but at the same time, it had taken him well over 250 years to get over his first love; he was a romantic at heart, even if that heart no longer beat.
He of course said nothing about it as they continued on; if no one had discovered what he’d done that night by now, he was content to leave it that way. There were other ways of him finding out if she was still around, such as—
—Such as the green eyes staring at him from the other side of the club, barely a minute after he’d entered it, freezing him in place.
