Rock insect and rock animal headcanons

>Names

Rock insect names are so weird because they're remnants of a now-extinct rock human language.

The rock human language has been functionally dead for several thousand years, since rock humans tend to either live in or near human society, and just use the local human language to communicate with each other.

The main way the language survives today is through the names of rock insects and rock animals. Humanity doesn't know about them, and therefore has no words to describe them, so their names never got replaced by human language names.

Personally I think rock insects/animals and their abilities function more like stands/stand users rather than set species. Like, there isn't a strictly defined species of Ob-la-di Ob-la-da that all look like that, it's part of a vague grouping of reproductively compatible rock insects. Kind of like how there are vague groupings of stands, a lot of variation, and some stands that function/look similar to others.

>Usage/Domestication

Rock insects aren't *rare*, they're certainly not common but if you know where to look you can probably find one. Most rock humans don't bother interacting with them though. They aren't intelligent enough to be trained, and the ones with dangerous abilities are a pain to catch. For the vast majority of rock humans, they;re more trouble than they're worth, it's just easier to use their stand to defeat an enemy. Like yeah you could technically go out and catch a venomous snake and throw it at your enemy, but why do that extra work and risk harm to yourself?

Rock animals are the rarest of the three rock organism subspecies. Rock dogs are just Dogs But Worse since they need to hibernate, so rock humans that need working dogs usually just use regular dogs instead (also regular dogs are much easier to obtain). The taming of rock animals isn't unheard of, it's just such a pain in the ass that very few actually bother with it. Kind of like falconry in a modern context, rock humans are aware that it's a thing they can do, but very few of them want to put in the time/money/effort to find and domesticate a rock animal when modern technology has outmoded a lot of working animal jobs.
