WE HAVE LOST THE POLL TOURNAMENT BUT THAT'S OKAY. anyway, now that the ship tournament is over, i'm sharing some art i drew of these two <3 i'll reblog the final post once the reveal happens, but yeah! thanks to everyone who voted for my goobers and put up with me being a little annoying about the whole thing, haha <3

anyway! here are the bastards themselves. left is iliris (he/him), right is twice (he/they/it). the vaguely goth cowboy and the cannibal cultist have fallen for each other! whatever will they do? (so much violence. that's what.)

The dialogue of LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE was nuanced, subtle, wicked, I wonder what male author has also sustained that continuous level of repartee? At the amusement park towards the finale of WOMAN ON THE RUN, the life-size Laughing Sally made me think it was San Francisco - am I mistaken?

In WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS Scalise keeps administrating what appears to be a nasal spray, but from my memory of Le Chiffre in James Bond isn’t it likelier that it is Benzedrine he’s inhaling?

I recently watched David Lynch's brilliant LOST HIGHWAY for the first time in several years and for the first time the very noir elements really stuck out for me. Is there another neo-noir with such strong sci-fi elements?

Lightning Flight has the phrase, "Don't trust lightning that doesn't strike twice." The phrase is akin to 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' and with Lightning citizens being so used to multiple, rapid succession lightning strikes due to the multitude of metal spires, each bolt is met with anticipation for the one that usually follows. Outside of Lightning this phrase isn't popular, due to the previous.

twice/iliris is a fun ship to me because, when you look at their first meeting, you probably wouldn't immediately predict how things turn out.

when they first meet, twice is actively trying to kill iliris and only stops because he manages to hit just the right nerve while begging them to stop. (and then he flusters and confuses them into letting him go by flirting with them hardcore.)

and then iliris ends up being the toxic one who refuses to work on himself when they actually get together romantically later on

There's a deep irony in Berserk being so admired by people who really really hate what Berserk is about on an emotional level, but especially when writers want to take influence from it. Because Berserk is very strong thematically, and someone who can't acknowledge subtext is going to whiff on emulating anything good.
