It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.

People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.

And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.

If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.

#and ive heard even dumber origins of the cherokee family myth #such as an ancestor having a silly sounding name so the descendents just go 'oh she mustve been an indian!!!'#i was one of the few people who had my ancestry done on the facebook and had genuine cherokee ancestry #[though i had found it before it was just really validating to get it double checked and i started finding cousins (:]#like. i was told once when i was a kid by my grandma that my dad had cherokee ancestry and i didnt believe her. its wild that so many peopl #will make it a Fixture of their identity [or even just smth they bring up ever] with Zero proof #at least for cherokees from what ive seen its usually considered really disrespectful to claim to have cherokee ancestry without #actually having the documentation [like ancestors on the rolls]#and no a dna test doesnt count. nor does 'my dad is Clearly not white!' or 'high cheekbones' or old family photos or anything #i had this discussion with someone recently whose dad had been calling himself 3/4 native but didnt know exactly what nation ???? hello?#and its like... sorry but ur dad is like. italian lol.#[and blood quantum is bullshit anyway im tired of the 'im 1/16 cherokee' comments its dumb #cherokee nation does not have a blood quantum requirement. its pointless bringing it up in the discussion of who is or isnt cherokee]#also mandatory disclaimer that im reconnecting. i didnt grow up connected to the culture of even knowing my ancestry #this is all from my looking into this stuff over the past year or so. i cant claim to be an authority over anything regarding this #this is p much all my repeating things ive heard said by people who know a lot more than i do haha #man. and this isnt even starting to get into the fake tribe stuff. the only legit cherokee groups are the 3 federally recognized bands #cherokee nation of oklahoma. united keetoowah band. and the eastern band of cherokee indians.#any others that are state recognized or not at all arent acknowledged as legitimate by any of the legit cherokee groups #anyway. my final message goodb.ye #cherokee #tsalagi

I never usually get that into the ships in a series and I think reason I'm falling SO far down that rabbit hole with Bungo Stray Dogs is because of the sheer amount of potential for one of my favorite rivals-to-lovers dynamics: "I'm falling in love with that asshole and I'm fucking pissed about it."

(bonus when the dynamic is mutual)

When it's done well, it's so funny. why does everything i get really into always end up being so god damn niche. by the year 2035 i am going to be blogging exclusively about the interpersonal relationships between the pillbugs and snails hiding underneath the bricks lining the flowerbeds in my parent's garden.

#this is going to sound stupid but i cant figure out. how to file a petition to do it.#all the resources just say file a petition and im like ok how. do i just bring the paperwork to the courthouse and turn it in #do i mail it somewhere do i make an appointment. idk #so i have everything printed out and im in town anyway so im just gonna go to the court and ask lol #and im kind of hoping theyll be like yep just give me those papers. but if not at least they will tell me what i have to actually do #avpost #im just nervous bc im gonna look like an idiot walking up like hiii. how do i file a petition here....#everyone i know only changed their names for marriage and divorce and also it wasnt in this county #so since the rules vary so much everywhere they cant rlly help that much.

florist roses having no scent is actually so messed up. we bred the roses to look "perfect" and last a long time and but they have lost The thing that people have loved them for the most for thousands of years. now when u smell a boquet of roses all you can smell is the chemical scent of plant food unless they're actual garden roses. there's a metaphor in here somewhere

#roses are my favorite flower but if anyone ever wanted to buy me flowers i would hate to get roses #bc they straight up smell like chemicals #carnations at least smell nice #but if u want fragrant roses you better be buying a designer wedding boquet or something or grow them yourself lol #insane insane insane #how did we let it come to this #roses went from the most romantic flower to the most boring artificial flower and we just let it happen 😭#nobody even talks abt this but it haunts me #valentine's day always reminds me how much i hate florist roses lol #a rose by anyother name might actually smell sweet <3 #anyway i see a scentless boquet of roses for an outrageous price and im ripping and killing and biting etc #why do we insist this is the pinnacle of romance lol #this has been a shitpost #anyway the reason u can get nice ones for wedding boquets is bc they only need to last a short time #but why dont we prioritize the scent of the others 😭#also im just being nitpicky but i dont like the look of technically perfect roses i think that was made up to favor a less delicate shape #i dont have a solution for this btw besides saying i would rather have roses that smell nice than last longer #and if u couldn't preserve and ship them as far that would actually benefit local growers in more regions instead of importing 99% of roses

#had an issue with a chewy order and got an email saying to call customer service in order for them to ship the order #for like security reasons??#and I was totally expecting to get a robot person not an actual person #so when dude answered the phone and asked what I needed help with I panicked #and I was so nervous and I think he could tell kfjfkfk #cause I gave him the wrong email at first #and when he asked for my name I only gave him my first name at first until he asked for my last name 😭#and the. he asked for my address and I only gave him like my house address not my area code or anything until he asked for it #and I kept apologizing and he was like ‘it’s okay’ in a very nice way which was nice but also awful #and then I hung up too early 😭#like he asked if I needed help with anything else and I said no and thanked him #and then he like kept talking and thanked me for calling and he was gonna say something else but I thanked him again and hung up #cause I thought he was done 😭#this is gonna keep me up at night for the next 3 months jfjfkfkk #personal #tag rant #I think he was gonna say have a good night or something #idk but I feel bad 😭#my anxiety is so high rn lol it’s 2 am 😃#at least I have something to talk about in therapy tomorrow now jfjfjfkfk pls 😭

trying to craft a funger oc like aughhhh i can see him i can picture him in my head right now [image of the most off putting little man possible]

#he does not have a name yet but he DOES have a vague concept. author from the eastern union who got drafted into the military and--#--met another guy during the 1 week he had b4 getting shipped out to basic training. they immediately develop a WAY intense relationship--#--and constantly send letters to each other. author is a total chickenshit and comes to cope w the violence of war thru--#--alcoholism and a complete retreat into his obsession w the other man. gets a couple wires crossed and has his lust morph into more + more #--violent fantasies that the other man plays along w bc its Fun+Wild (at its core its the authors desire for CONTROL. if hes the one--#--bringing the pain then hes safe. even better if its with the single person in existence he feels like he can trust during that--#--period of time). manages to live throughout the rest of the war and rushes back to his lover. spends a slowly degrading week w him where-#--the man comes to realize what he thought of as simple metaphor+exaggeration was TRUE desire from the author + the author flounders--#--without the then expected+familiar terror day in and day out. culminates in the man demanding the author leave and never try to contact--#--him again (saying their romance was wild and exciting and unlike anything hed ever experienced but the only good way it couldve ended--#--was if the author died out on the front and forever left him Wanting without the actual reality of those desires realized) and the--#--author either tries to shoot himself or the man (fails to do so. lol) b4 running off to the first train out of town. worlds messiest guy #ya it leans a bit into samarie territory but hes fun. his theoretical ending b would probably have smth to do w sylvian worship + marriages #even more vague idea for his moonscorched form is a sopping wet pathetic red wolf ('red wolf' being one of the mans terms of endearment--#--thru their wartime love letters) w its legs tangled up in barbed wire so it has to drag itself around. red bc its incredibly--#--thin skin (<-- do you get it .) splits and bleeds thru with every movement. a lot of whining and incoherent babbling as it hesitates to--#--ACTUALLY attack anybody. should have some cock horror element but ive no ideas on that front LOL #skill ideas are persistence predator (more melee damage dealt the less mind hes got- a backstory choice where he focuses entirely on the--#--love letters rather than splitting focus on his on-pause career with short stories) and an unnamed one playing into his terror/lust deal-#--where he gets a buff to either melee damage or speed when his phobia is active. want to come up with at least one more though #mmmaybe him being an author doesnt play that well into his concept as a whole but hes my strangeguy so whatever
