So LinkedIn is automatically opting-in everyone to "use your personal data and content you create on LinkedIn to train generative AI models that create content." Jerk move on their part.
You can opt-out at this link: https://www.linkedin.com/mypreferences/d/settings/data-for-ai-improvement
You can delete your profile at this link (since their default opt-in suggests no respect for our personal data): https://www.linkedin.com/mypreferences/d/close-accounts

Hello! I’ve just changed industries and I’ve changed to a big one (music industry but the business side) and I need to do networking, mostly via LinkedIn since I’m my city this industry is mostly death. Do you have any tip or advice? Because every time I open LinkedIn I start to doubt myself since I’m 30 changing from an industry to another one with not experienced. I’ve studied a master degree but for personal reasons (taking care of my parents) couldn’t change industries before and it gives me more anxiety, so the motivation to network is nonexistent. Thank you 🖤
Hi love! So exciting you've made an industry change you've been hoping to make for years. Congrats!
Here are some tips:
Optimize your LinkedIn profile around your new industry and job/career aspirations (this will optimize your profile for searches and incline more people in your industry to trust your profile/read & hopefully answer your message)
Do your research on your prospects and share your similarities/similar interests. Make it clear why you reached out to them specifically (some position they held, working at a certain company, an article they shared, etc.) and how it aligns with your career experience/goals to communicate why you two should connect
Once you get a warm lead, invite them to get a coffee (digital gift card) for a virtual informational interview about said experience, industry focus, career path, similar interests/field specialties, etc.
Ask thoughtful questions. Genuinely listen to their opinions, perspectives, interests, and expertise
Reconnect with old contacts/existing network; Catch up and see if they have any (new) industry-relevant connections
Connect your old/new connections with each other. Being known as the social connector among your existing network/within your new industry can only open doors to many immediate and future opportunities
Build authority and a strong personal brand by sharing industry-relevant articles and commenting on those shared by others; Create/answer polls and questions prompted by those new to your network and leaders in your industry
Hope this helps xx

I'm a huge fan of low-stress social media outlets that don't Matter
I post absolute nonsense on tumblr. people nod solemnly, agreeing with that nonsense, and reblog
I pop in on discord and chat with old friends, on a server named after a decade-old TTRPG in-joke. someone replies with an equally arcane reference via a gif reaction
I send out a snap of a cool thing I bought today, but to only my private story. a handful of people see it. It vanishes tomorrow. That's fine; the thing I bought was little but fun
I don't WANNA optimize my LinkedIn profile I don't WANNA carefully curate algorithms I don't WANNA. I just want to share the cool rocks I found, and have other people nod along and show me their own cool rocks

this might be an abnormal take but i consider youtubers tweeting about how they’re looking for people to work for them to be unprofessional at best and downright exploitative at worst
#tbh i’m even being a bit generous with giving the at best bit#bc i do wanna believe that these guys are good people and don’t want to exploit anyone#but it’s still shitty#bc who are the people who r going to see these tweets? their fans#and obviously there’s always going to be an imbalanced power dynamic between an employee and their boss#but if the employee is a fan then it tips that unbalanced dynamic even further#they’re almost definitely gonna let the youtuber get away with a lot of stuff bc they’re a fan#and like i’m not even talking about shit like grooming even tho that does set up a perfect environment for it#like i wanna believe that these youtubers have good intentions#but they may not understand stuff like how much money is reasonable to pay for these jobs and stuff like that#and get away with it#and the most common thing i see this for is like thumbnails and video art#so u could argue that they want someone familiar with their videos or something#but then they should mention that in the job description#or go out and find someone like look through fanart tags and find an artist to commission#which would definitely have its own set of problems but i think that would be better than a tweet at least#and like the problem here isn’t necessarily just tweeting about hiring ppl#like companies tweet that they’re hiring all the time and then the tweet has a link to like a linkedin page#or the job page on the company’s website#don’t get me wrong linkedin and indeed and other sites like them are shitty and annoying to use#but they do a lot to legitimize a job posting and set up a professional experience from the start#(looking at u quackity studios)#mcyt#minecraft youtube#discourse#qsmp#posts from the ocean#minecraft yt#youtube#tag rants

If you ever think people don’t notice you-
There was a guy in my orientation for my coding school program. I interacted with him maybe twice during orientation. He never showed up to class when the quarter started a few weeks later.
For a while, I assumed maybe he decided that programming wasn’t for him, so he changed his mind and dropped out after orientation
End of the quarter rolled around a couple months later... and he randomly DMs me like “Hey I deferred my start date to summer session, anyway do you have any advice now that you’ve been through the first quarter” and I was genuinely SO EXCITED to hear from him. This guy I talked to TWICE like three months ago.
Strangers notice you. Strangers remember you. Strangers like you. Strangers get excited to hear from you! And also strangers like feeling helpful and being asked for advice so there’s a hot tip for conversation starters!
