This is probably a silly thought but I often think about how pure Clark's soul was that he turned Lionel into such a good person (I know he had Jor-El influence but it was still his essence) . Same with Lois, Godfrey (affected by Darkseid) couldn't even corrupt her. He called her, "pure of heart".
So both of these Pure Hearts are the match made in heaven.

lionel’s redemption arc was stupid as hell but sometimes i just think of how much more tragic it makes lex’s story. that he spent years being told he was too soft, too weak, but also goodness isn’t in your nature, lex, you’re a luthor and you’ll always be a luthor and they’ll never accept you, until he finally gives in and decides to embrace it, decides that fine, if no one will let him be the hero then he might as well be the villain… and then after all that, when he finally becomes the perfect luthor, suddenly all lionel can say is clark kent is the kind of son a father could be proud of.

Genuinely hate how something or someone always stops Clark whenever he confronts Lionel about being a manipulative abuser and murderer. "He's on our side." Boy, he is only on your side because it benefits him.
He threatened Lana into marrying Lex, but it's suddenly okay because he says that he was trying to protect Clark? Clark, you're literally at your smartest when you use your critical thinking.
Why would you continue to trust Lionel and look so freaking stupid? This is not how you write a redemption arc and I don't understand how the writers didn't get the memo.
The entire point of the show portraying Lex's origin is that you see him turn from misguided with a good heart to straight up evil because it's a continuous cycle. Lachlan abused Lionel (creating a monster), which turned into Lionel abusing Lex (also creating a monster), which turned into Lex abusing those around him.
Lex does fucked up things because his number one role model also did fucked up things. I'm not a professional television writer, but even I can tell that Lex's turn to villainy won't be a cohesive plot if you give Lionel a redemption arc.
