Happy birthday to Riley Parra! Six years ago, the webseries based on my novels premiered. I still can't believe how lucky I got with this adaptation. To have Riley played by someone who is SO RIGHT for the character, and to have Liz Vassey take control of her love interest, and Priest... AHH PRIEST. I had no idea how they'd find the right person, but they did. Somehow they did. 😁

Huge thanks to the Filmmakers Podcast for highlighting Riley Parra Better Angels!
I’m just so in love with that image. I’m such a lucky author. First adaptation of anything I’ve written, and I get Marem Hassler and Liz Vassey as its faces. Dream come true. 😁

Bizarre lost/found pilot I just found out about
youtube
This is a pilot for a show called "Martin and Claudia" that was uploaded by the reputable Media Garage youtube channel that also initially uploaded the Gibby pilot. Unlike the other pilots on his account, there is little-to-none information on the show's production online and it is under none of the actors' IMDB accounts.
The show was seemingly produced as The WB's (for most people these days, the network is known as The CW) alternative to the NBC sitcom Will & Grace. This can be easily be shown by directly comparing the two shows apartment sets, among other surface similarities such as the name of the show's pilot and the basic premise (girl lives with guy roommate, unsure if Martin is meant to be gay like Will is though).

Martin and Claudia
The other only known information about Martin and Claudia is that it starred Liz Vassey, Michael Weatherly, and Arden Myrin. The pilot was written by Shana Larsen. It was potentially directed by Will McKenzie. Other actors potentially included: Romany Malco and Dylan Neal. The pilot was produced in 1999.
Yeah...there's not much out there of this pilot at all. It's quite the intriguing mystery! One theory put in the comments was the pilot cut uploaded was created before network and producer feedback, which is why it is surprisingly decent compared to most sitcoms. As for why it wasn't picked up? Another comment states the pilot was simply lower priority and slipped through the cracks before it even could become a show.
I think differently, I'd like to enter with a more tinfoil hat approach cause I think at times it can create a more interesting story, even if the above is more plausible.
There are two theories I'd like to delve into
The "too similar theory"
This was my first thought. Since Martin and Claudia is a pilot that was created as an alternative to Will and Grace, it borrows many similar elements. However the elements are too similar, from set, to premise, to characterizations. Perhaps picking up Martin and Claudia was deemed too risky by the network and instead of reworking the show to be less similar, the network decided instead it would be more simple to simply just not pick up the show and bury everything about its creation. This to me best explains not only why the show wasn't picked up, but why there was/is barely any internet information prior to Media Garage's upload of the pilot.
2. "Too different theory"
My other theory is somewhat interesting, but a little less interesting than the above. At the time the pilot was filmed, the WB's flagship shows were Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's spinoff Angel, Beverly Hills, 90210, Charmed, Ally Mcbeel, and Dawson's Creek. Basically a bunch of teen dramas and fantasy/sci-fi series. Thus, the network didn't pick up Martin and Claudia because it didn't fit in with the rest of their lineup. Boring but makes a lot of sense.
In a world where Martin and Claudia got picked up, what would it's reputation be? Would it be remembered like Friends, a show that despite seeming like a clone at first glance, ends up just as successful, if not more successful than it's contemporaries? Would it have been remembered as a cult classic that didn't get a chance? Or would it have been remembered as a clone that couldn't hold a candle to the original? This and the lack of info on it is why I find Martin and Claudia so interesting, despite being an unaired clone of a much more well known show, it somehow manages to still stand out on its own.

Throwback to my first time seeing the real-life people who would going to play a couple I created. And I was lucky enough for those people to be Liz Vassey and Marem Hassler! Ten years of casting my novels, of writing dozens of couples, and suddenly here they were in the flesh. So lucky. 🥰

#about me
People I want to get to know better:
Fun!  Thank you to @clintbeifong for the tag (and apologies for the slow response)! 💛
Last song: “Remember Me As a Time of Day,” by Explosions in the Sky, which is the last song on my private iTunes GSR fic playlist (the public, WIP version of which can be found here).  You can also access the public (Spotify) version by searching my username (same as this one).  My private version is up to 171 songs (and is still, always, growing); the public version currently has 114 tracks.  (On Spotify, I also have a fun early ‘90s playlist for the soundtrack to my ficwip 5k AU story from this summer, “One Life Stand.”) 🎵
Favourite colour: All sorts of variations of the colour blue. 💙
Currently watching: I am currently doing a very distracted re-watch of early seasons of The X-Files.  (I really don’t want to be abducted by that ‘ship, too, though.) 👽
Last movie: The Apartment (1960) with Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine.  (Highly recommended, if you like that sort of thing!  I was watching for the first time, but it’s also beloved by Liz Vassey, if you don’t want to take my or the Academy Award-voters’ words on it!) 🎞️
Sweet/savoury/spicy: Oooh, my favourite is really the sweet/savoury combo—e.g., splitting brunch foods (something with whipped cream and maple syrup and something with hollandaise sauce), pineapple in/on savoury foods (yes, this includes pizza if it’s American-style not Italian), salted chocolate (or salted chocolate chip cookies, or salted chocolate rye cookie ice cream...), etc.  I love them both, but I think, if I had to choose one item to be the last I ever ate, it would be a big bowl of chocolate mousse with whipped cream and strawberries, so I’ll have to go with sweet. 🍫🍓
Relationship status: Single. 💁‍♀️
Current obsession: Like you have to ask.  The online expression of my GSR love may be on a semi-hiatus, but the love itself is still very, very real.  (Also I’m about to start another CSI re-watch, but I’ve been putting it off because I think I’m going to drive everyone around me insane.) 💕
Last thing I Googled: I’m trying to learn how to make a Tumblr gif-set properly (with zero Photoshop experience), so I’ve been reading Tumblr tutorials and googling various things about that. 💻
I’d like to get to know everyone better, so, if you would like to participate, please consider yourself tagged! 💛
Finally, this last bit has nothing to do with the above (it’s not part of the tag game!), but I made this in the summer after @clintbeifong posted one, and I never got around to posting mine, so I am sharing it now for the cuteness.  (It’s so cute! 💛🐶)

Last Thursday, June 22, the writers of CSI (past and present shows) got together to picket in front of the Paramount Studios. They were joined by some actors like Marg Helgenberger, Matt Lauria, Lex Medlin and Joel Johnstone.
Writers have been on strike since May 2 and actors may start their own strike next week.
You can find more infos on the WGA website and this short article from AP about the strike reaching 50 days.
