Chelsea is from Michigan (U.S.A.). She was flown to California where the Specialized Videos SF model was shot by Trevor Spiro, the web-master/web producer sensation from SmokinStyle based in London!
THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK (HONORABLE MENTION) | POST NUMBER 7 (No. 7)
For the Week of 100923-101523
★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ | Four-and-a-Half "Stars"
From vs120shound staff | ★★★★★ (9 total: L)
Tri-Media 8-Post, 27-Pack (Megapost)!
Beautiful Chelsea with Marlboro Lights 100s!
Two worlds collided and when the dust settled . . . when the smoke cleared from our Smoking Darling's lips . . . we were left with this masterpiece that falls shy of perfection only because the inspiration, agreement and execution of this outside-the-"motha phuquing"-box concept was conceived before the advent of High-Def videography!
. . . well, this is one of the prime examples of a collaborative effort between two leading SF websites, each with tremendous followings in the first decade of this century and into the midway point of the next decade, the one that finished at the start of 2020. Chelsea, from Specialized Videos (Michigan, U.S.A.) met with Trevor Spiro, the driving force of SmokinStyle (London, U.K.), somewhere in California. There, the SmokinStyle web-master/web producer, did his magic. Spiro is regarded by many as the pre-eminent cameraman for Smoking Fetish. He was a fashion model photographer among the many roles he's had in his professional career. Pure magic, this! The equipment in the 2000s and into the early 2010s did not feature High Definition (High Def). Just beginning to take root within the photography/videography world after this joint project. Great video scenes captured by Spiro. But we can assume it did not quite go swimmingly for not another shoot was arranged among Spiro, Chelsea and Scott, the web-master/web producer for SV. What a shame! So for as outstanding as this work was -- still is, despite the lack of High Def -- it kind of serves as a teaser to a degree, giving those who marveled about the finished product, it left those fans wanting more. Naturally.
Scott was no slouch behind the camera but he did not have the background to bring SV's quality to a higher, better level . . . anything along the lines of what Spiro was producing on a regular basis. Did not have the training or the ingenuity or experimental nature to try different approaches from the standard way he went about shooting his beautiful SF models. He got the best out of what he could offer on the technical end -- videography, photography (SV had plenty of stills offered for sale on its website, www.specializedvideos.com) -- as well as with editing and production values used. Where Scott stood out among rival web-masters/web producers was his strong, penetrating interview style that he conducted nearly on a consistent basis. And his approach was gentle, not like a journalist grilling a politician. Friendly manner was employed in all of his interviews. He asked all the basics -- how did you start; who was there with you offering advice and support; what was the reaction of friends and family; what has been the history of brands; has there been an attempt to quit smoking yet; have you gotten into trouble by smoking -- and his follow-ups flowed; they did not come from a pre-arranged line of questioning from a list. Actually, our favorite interviewer, and by a wide margin. That style and those methods helped him, we're sure, in developing rapport with his great (beautiful, strong-smoking, personable, down-to-earth, plentiful) stable of SF models.
Chelsea is strikingly beautiful, so pretty. Cute, too. Knockout body but probably never considered entering a "Ms. Boobs!" contest. Warm personality. Friendly. Down to earth. Quite pleasant. Many comments about her videos close to two decades ago often centered around her looks and the belief of many that she could have had a future as a fashion model, if she so chose! We never know what she gravitated towards in her post-SF modeling days. One thing's for certain: She is pushing 40 y.o. by now. Definitely in her mid-30s in the very least. Chelsea is in a different chapter of her life nowadays from her Specialized Videos (and combined Specialized Videos/SmokinStyle) days. That's for sure. Perhaps she's moved into and through various stages of adolescence and adulthood. If she's on the cusp of the Big-4-Oh threshold, then middle-age will be beckoning soon. That's the deal. We just remain grateful she contributed on to the Greater SF World Community scene for as long as she did, with as many videos of her that were produced and distributed! Chelsea rocks!

Then I made my way (in the rain without an umbrella) to Foyles to see if they had it there and, again, they didn't have it."
"he's 6'3"
"I have never been more sexually attracted to a man than Jarvis cocker in the this is hardcore mv. I want to flatten him out with a rolling pin like pizza dough and then smack him against the wall. I am so horny I should be shot."
"Everytime I see jarvis cocker videos or pics I twirl my hair, kick my legs and giggle uncontrollably. Or I bite my arm and scream. I'm so mesmerised by his beautiful doe eyes and his weird dances that often lean very sexual. He's everything"
"the way jarvis' body is built is just extraordinary yknow like his spindly buglike legs"

"need to have car sex with him whilst moving his greasy bangs out the way with my fingers"
"i went all the way to ireland to cure my hyperfixation but im still dreaming about the insect man 😍 i want to do the dishes with him"
"Jarvis is the kind of man that will tell you in explicit detail how much he likes to be pegged"
"currently smashing his sheffildian buttocks"
"I'd like to put my head on his shoulder right by his neck and just stay there, with his somewhat shaved beard making contact with my face and some strands of his hair coming loose and caressing me"
"is it zoophilic of me to say that I'm attracted to his insect looking way"
"Jarvis is everything! 90s Jarvis is a sarcastic smart bitter horny devil. 2000s Jarvis is a romantic fool. Current Jarvis? Lyrically, he is still both the horniest and most romantic and imho has the sexiest speaking voice of his generation. I used to listen to his BBC 6 radio show and when he said my name on air during their listener special I lost my goddamn mind. Celebrate the anniversary of it annually."

BURNA BOY REAFFIRMS HIS GREATNESS ONCE MORE WITH "I TOLD THEM..."
Tumblr media
Ever since the stroke of luck or carefully planned commercial move that was the release of "Ye" in January of 2018, Burna Boy has not stopped rising. The song that led to his meteoric rise was a part of his album, Outside which marked his major label debut. With the success of the album shooting him into universal acclaim, he wasted no time in declaring himself the African Giant with a new album released in 2019. He kept with the pace by releasing his fifth studio album which he named, in true smug Burna fashion, Twice as Tall. Five years and a few weeks after that first alignment of stars, Burna is still steady on his grind and as confident as ever with his new body of work, I Told Them…, his fifth album in six years. The title is no doubt drawn from the same self-assured state of mind that the previous ones were.
Burna's greatness shines through from the very beginning of the album as his unique artistry is put fully on display here. He begins with a palm wine music–inspired, slow tempo song with traditional percussion. "I told them", he says and he repeats it, and his delivery is very much "I told you so". It is a clear payback to all those who didn't believe in him. He sings his own praises, calling himself amongst other things; a genius, a giant, the master. GZA, of the legendary Wu Tang Clan, comes in at the end with a spoken word rendition. Burna's self proclaimed genius is evident not only in this song but in the entirety of the album which is a unique blend of different elements and influences, featuring snippets, excerpts and samples from other musical works, banter with friends and phone conversations all carefully curated to create an inimitable work of art.
"On form" for instance, is both Afrobeat and Afrobeats and he mixes English with pidgin and Yoruba. "E no go tire me, nothing we never see", Burna sings, assuring us that he does not plan on quitting anytime soon. Burna travels through time in the earlier released "Sittin' on top of the world" which features a sample of Brandy's 1998 single, "Top of the world". It is a funky delight and a perfect throwback to the vibes of the late '90s and early 2000s.
Is it really a Burna Boy album if it doesn't feature a bit of political activism in some form?. On "Cheat on me", Burna takes a break from the focus on girls and money which occupied most of the earlier tracks, to pass a message about the prejudiced treatment of Africans by foreign governments; "Make embassy no deny my people visa/ No be Taliban, no be Al-Qaeda". Dave makes an appearance here but the potential of his verse is hindered by what could bluntly be described as lazy writing. He borrows multiple rhymes from Burna; "Believer", "Kilometer" and "Visa", using the last to end three different lines. Dave, also Nigerian, missed an opportunity to deliver a resonant, patriotic verse that could perhaps rival that of Skepta in "Dimension". On this song as well, Burna reworks a sample, this time from English singer Kwabs' "Cheating On Me", though this snippet bears only sonic but not thematic connection to Burna's new album. "Big 7" bears a similarity in rhythm to "Sittin' On Top Of The World", calling to mind early hip hop culture while Burna Boy grittily brags that he's been "Wavy since London, wavy since Berlin", referencing European cities from his tours on his journey to world domination.
But despite all of this, Burna is not forgetting his home and people. He takes a quick trip back home with "Giza", an Amapiano track with Seyi Vibes that is simply perfection, beginning with the ethereal sound of the Ney, the Arabian flute, and followed by rapidly mounting, light percussion. Seyi begins the track with characteristic spoken-word rap, and Burna's deep bass glides so smoothly into the second verse that it might take you a second to notice when the baton was passed. On "If I'm lying" Burna returns to foreign soil, this time somber and sincere. His delivery is assisted only by a few guitar strings and toned down Middle Eastern vocalization that gives a naked poignant beauty to the RnB song. Burna puts on no airs here, baring himself to the world. "Everyday I just dey give thanks for life/ Know how to move 'cause I know sacrifice", he begins. Not long after he promises; "If you need a shoulder to cry, then I'll give you mine".
On the next song however, Burna draws from a completely opposite emotion—anger. "Is this the motherfucking thanks I get/ For making my people proud every chance I get", he begins furiously. Like the Dave assisted "Cheat on me", this song too is about his people, but where he had pled on their behalf for respect from the outside world on the previous song, on this one, he berates them for what he believes to be a gross ingratitude for his many gifts, including his founding of Afro Fusion and being the blueprint for other African acts seeking global fame. He confronts them with their accusations and claps back at their threats, sacrificing melody for message, so that the song is not as appealing as most others. "Thanks" features hip hop heavyweight, J. Cole, whose verse would have served better on one of the grander rap-leaning tracks rather than an Afrobeats track that fixes on a domestic squabble between a man and his people.
I Told Them… had been much anticipated since its announcement, but even more so in light of Burna's recent interview with Apple music where he made some controversial statements about Nigerian music's lack of substance. Ironically, many of the songs on his album centre on hedonistic pursuits - Afropop staples. There was talk of "Azul and champagne" in "City Boys", "Rocking your body" in "On Form" and in "Normal", he makes us know that none of this is excessive in his book. But this is Burna Boy, and flippant and dismissive comments are not a new thing coming from him. And perhaps he could be exonerated on the grounds that he is one of the few artists in the business who regularly ventures out of that banal box to create timeless pieces of art.
With I Told Them… Burna Boy manages to pull off what many African artists have failed and are still failing at; creating a sound that will tie two worlds together. He not only does this effortlessly but even manages to bring in slices of different subcultures - African-American hip hop, Afrobeat, Afrobeats, Reggae fusion, Amapiano and RnB. The album is a patchwork of cultures, it is Burna's journey through space and time collecting bits and pieces here and there for an enduring album. I Told Them… is Burna taking another giant step across continental waters to claim new territory whilst still managing to carry along his already conquered turfs, putting his versatility and ingenuity on full display for the world to see. The African Giant need not try to tell us of his greatness anymore as he has proven it to us time and time again. But knowing Burna, there is no doubt that he will continue to.

What's the vibe? #40
Tumblr media
News:
Ikoyi is doing a collab with Shake Shack in Covent Garden but only for one day - 13th October.
SSense is collab'ing with 20 creative collaborators as part of its 20 year celebration. "20 ways of seeing."
Tumblr media
We're not going to speak too much about that Sphere in Las Vegas but.....yeah.
Youth in the UK report :)
Even though it may be expensive for retailers, to be inclusive as many beauty brands have found out when expanding or starting their foundation range, it will pay off in the long run to have an image that’s more in line with reality. The average size of a woman in the UK is the size 14-16 so not being able to cater to those customers is just losing money. There’s also a case study to be made on how hard it is to find plus size second hand garments and how it becomes more of an exclusive space in luxury.
I’m also reminded of Christian Siriano, who won Project Runway in 2007 and how because he caters to a wide amount of women (and non-women) and their bodies his brand is associated with inclusivity. That doesn’t mean it’s seen as “cool” to the in group but it doesn’t have to be. Because he has his audience and clientele.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to the thoughts on fashion at large, in the SS24 womenswear season of Fashion Week, 1% of the models were plus size according to The Vogue Business Spring/Summer 2024 size inclusivity report. The conglomerates (LVMH and Kering) are just not representing the average young woman and these leans into quiet luxury and in the cost of living crisis where brands are going back to extreme craftsmanship or their roots, just means more 2000s sleek black pants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also related to the conversation about Sean McGirr becoming the new Creative Director of Alexander McQueen which on Vogue Business was a piece titled Why are so many creative directors white men?. A few quotes from this...
“The call is coming from inside the house, and it’s from the top,” says stylist and Perfect Magazine’s creative director Jeanie Annan-Lewin. “And, the people who are at the top pay very little attention to women and pay absolutely no attention to POCs. And, if you’re a woman and a POC, it’s kind of game over.”
and
"Fashion documentarian and writer Rian Phin believes the homogenisation of fashion is intentional. “Many of the men at the forefront of fashion aren’t unqualified for their positions — they have valid, progressive and thoughtful visions of the future of fashion. But, the active exclusion of the visions of women and creatives of colour may be in order to maintain a singular vision of fashion.” She adds: “Conglomerates may be trying to streamline customers in this way, which may make it easier to organise people into shoppers, but excludes more broad visions of fashion that reflect diverse visions of society. It may also be in their interests to exclude these voices, so that their power and singular storytelling goes unchallenged and unquestioned by people whose work could critique that kind of power.”
This article titled 'I love my midriff': why flaunting your tummy with a crop top in 2023' also goes into the appeal of seeing these very obvious body shapes in ways that we wouldn't have seen in 2010 or 2005.
"In 2023, by contrast, the theory is stomachs can come in all shapes and sizes. Ed Conway, founder of fitness studio Fit As in Leyton, east London, reports that while men feel pressure to have a six pack, many women actively avoid this look."
In the previous years mentioned, the culture, especially British culture was more fatphobic (*this was also class related) and plus size clothing was unfashionable. Now because youth culture is dominated by the internet (with America leading in the Anglosphere), it's pushed British-culture-body-conservatism back.
*I see social media as a powerful force for pushing back against certain things in fashion and in larger society. A lot of people have influence, the fact that anyone can post their body and not be ashamed is not something that could be done in 2005. They would have had had to have been on television exposing themselves to a more hostile society. Today, it can still be hostile but young people can find communities through posting :^)
My blind spots for this were male plus size models, inclusivity in male fashion and beauty. Maybe that's for another time. One of the male models in that Vogue Business SS24 sizing piece did say...
Plus-size model James Corbin says he wasn’t approached to walk any shows in London this season — where both menswear and womenswear collections were presented. "Not many shows were inclusive enough to have a plus-size male model.”

The History of Streetwear in Pop Culture
Hey everyone, it's Adriana.
Welcome back to this week's topic on streetwear in pop culture. Let's talk about how the upbringing of streetwear in the 90’s and how it’s grown into different styles meshed together to normalized clothing worn in streets. We might have seen celebrities start making streetwear trendy in appearances on the red carpet, movies, and music videos. Let's take it back and share some of our favorite moments in pop culture.
New York hip-hop fashion
Aaliyah was a R&B singer from  Brooklyn, New York. She was well known for having a “tomboy” unisex look that made it acceptable to all in the 90s hip hop era of dance and music. She would be seen hanging around artists like TLC, Tupac, & others in what we would identify now as streetwear. Simply wearing casual everyday clothing but with a twist.
Here is a favorite look of Aaliyah in a bandana, oversized varsity jacket and sporty pants with a belt and a long bedazzled chain.

Chicano streetwear
Mi Vida Loca (1993) is a drama indie film that portrayed young Hispanic women viewing their lives as gang members in Echo Park, Los Angeles. These women were everyday fighters in the streets of LA watching each other's backs.  In the film, you can view what streetstyle was meant for cholas. These women wore baggy or tight clothing, Nike Cortez shoes, high ankle socks, and big hoop earrings. This style became the norm within hispanic culture, since the film showed the culture of the beauty standards in chola women.

Punk streetwear
Freaky Friday (2003)
A fantasy-comedy film, a childhood favorite. One of my favorite outfits is Lindsay Lohan and her pairing of cargo pants (classic) with a slightly cropped graphic tank, and of course, a choker.

Thirteen (2003)
A film about a thirteen-year-old girl's relationship with her mother is put to the test as she discovers drugs, sex, and petty crime in the company of her cool but troubled best friend. Because of the film's low budget, the girls' clothes are mostly from their own wardrobe. Catherine Hardwick noted that as filming progressed, the girls began to dress similarly without being told to. This film created the idea of young good girls heading toward the direction of rebellion. The punk rock look played a part of the early 2000's. We love to see it now with brands like IAMGIA, Motel Rocks, and Forever 21, bringing back the low rise jeans, suede lace-up vests and body jewelry.

Japanese streetwear
FRUiTS magazine (1997) was a monthly Japanese street fashion magazine created by photographer Shoichi Aoki. Though FRUiTS magazine it covered styles found throughout Tokyo. Aoki captured cool people rocking the Harajuku style and found them to be most fashionable with the expressiveness shown walking in look worthy clothing. We enjoy the double layered graphic crewneck sweater. The plaid midi skirt with a pin, with a large Moschino tote bag ready to take on the day.

Pamela Anderson, she made wearing beach wear look so easy and effortless. Pamela turned beach wear swimsuit "cover up" the normal everyday wear. Typically, her look consisted of sexy and comfortable. Here she's seen wearing denim on denim. A cute button down oversized denim shirt tied to be cropped and cinched to the waist.  The iconic Levis 501 shorts with a cheeky slit near the pocket, and beaded shell jewelry. What a look!

School wear in LA
90210 (1990)
Brenda Walsh, Donna Martin, and Kelly Taylor were fashion icons in the TV series of a group of friends living in Beverly Hills, California as they all transition from high school to college and into the adult world. They always went shopping for clothes that they can afford and put together. During this time, fashion was very experimental while being classic especially as preppy as kids were in the hills. Most girls in the show, wore big t-shirts to school with overalls, blazers with skirts, long button down dresses. Big 90's hairstyles with fringe bangs and attempt to stay on trend.

Skateboarding Youth Culture
Young adults and teens in the 90s featured in magazines like Alloy. Outfits featured in skate magazines redefined the aesthetic in streetwear. They were made for comfort while riding a skateboard in the streets, while also staying on trend. We got muscle tanks, UFO (parachute pants) Tight fitted graphic t-shirts, and chunky sneakers. This style is still being represented and recreated by women to this day even if they don't skate, it's still gives off I am probably wearing my boyfriends clothing core.

Sportswear Princess
Princess Diana (left) became a muse in comfort casual clothing/ sporty chic style in the 90s. This photo is a side by side of two influential figures in pop culture making paparazzi catch photos of them wearing a similar outfit out in public and making it streetstyle. Hailey Bieber (right) making athleisure wear into the street. This kind of an outfit would be considered sporty, although you might just like the look of throwing on an oversized jumper, with some fun sneakers for a quick coffee run or errands.

 Performance wear
Jennifer Lopez (2000) also known as JLO performance is always iconic for wearing avant garde looks when out in public. She has a mix of various looks while performing. This look started a trend in what women aspire to look and dress like. As we see many YouTube or TikTok tutorials on "stealing her style" recreating her throwback looks. Here's an iconic one we could see being brought back. Charli XCX (2016). Performing in Berlin, Germany. We see more of an urban mix of style being introduced by celebrities on stage. Performers have toned it down for on stage presence and more for comfort while still showing style. Charli is from the United Kingdom and her biggest fashion influences are sporty chic, and tumblr girls from 2014 of #seapunk, #pale goth, and #y2k aesthetic.
