Byler this, wheelclair that, “Will is Mike’s best friend”, “no it’s Lucas”… they’re just different relationships. Lucas is Mike’s bro, Will is Mike’s baby. And Dustin is chopped liver apparently because nobody talks about him

I've had an unfathomably stressful weekend among my right-wing maternal relatives. Naturally, I'm celebrating my escape with a poll!
I like to headcanon a bunch of my faves as ace or grey-ace, sometimes with reasons that make sense to other people, sometimes out of pure projection (I'm a grey-ace lesbian myself, and this bleeds out into my fandom tastes!).
REMINDER that this isn't (necessarily) a vote for your favorite character, or even your personal favorite-of-all-time ace headcanon. Vote for the character on this list that you would most enjoy imagining as asexual or grey-ace. Feel free to add details about your headcanons for your choice, though!
Details for mine specifically:
Luke Skywalker - aro-ace, misunderstands his natural rapport+psychic bond with Leia as attraction in part because he's never actually experienced real attraction and never will.
Charlotte Lucas - ace lesbian.
Men in Tolkien - grey-ace or ace, depending on the instance (I was tempted to exclude a very few specific individuals like Finwë, Samwise Gamgee, and Eöl, but it was inconvenient, and honestly, I still feel the Tolkien default for dudes is grey-ace).
Spock - gay grey-ace outside of pon farr scenarios (he hates the prospect of pon farr with T'Pring for multiple reasons! he's also aggressively disinterested in Mudd's women, the lady sexbots in "Shore Leave," etc, for ... uh, also multiple reasons).
Romana I - grey-ace.
Athena - very aggressively 100% aro-ace, can and will strike down anyone who doubts this.
Anakin Skywalker - Padmésexual.
Fitzwilliam Darcy - grey-ace, has been slightly attracted to people before, but rarely and not very strongly, until Elizabeth upends his entire experience of sexuality in the space of about 2 weeks. His own feelings only get (far) more intense and foreign to him from there.
Emelye - aro-ace. Rarely have I more strongly wished I could free someone from the story they're trapped in.
Tar-Telperiën - aro-ace, will bring the full weight of royal power to bear on anyone who has a problem with it (following the example of her lesbian great-grandmother Tar-Ancalimë, but refusing to marry at all. goodforher.jpeg)
Moiraine - grey-ace & lesbian. Yes, I know Jordan wants me to believe she's into Thom. je refuse
Cassian Andor - grey-ace, and near the "fully ace" boundary. He's mostly into Jyn and very surprised (and initially dismayed) about it.

Fandom stop using nonsense from TCW as a gotcha re: Prequels characters for once. Not everybody views that show as canon. It’s perfectly legitimate to have interpretations of the Prequels and Original Trilogy as a standalone story, especially since they were created to function in that exact manner. TCW is superfluous and often completely OOC for all saga characters involved. Nothing compels anyone to view it as legitimate canon, and honestly my intelligence feels insulted whenever I see people using that series as some kind of ‘proof’ for their negative views, particularly of Anakin and Padme’s characters and relationship, but also just in general.
Like, we’re talking about an animated tv series that was made in an entirely different (often totally slapstick and unserious) style and tone than the PT x OT films. It is also overtly moralising in patronising ways and tends to shove characters in contrived situations just to make a condescending and captain-obvious meta commentary on the main saga.
If I wanted supplementary material that is more in line with the PT films, there are a number of novelizations, books, and comics from that era to choose from. And Lucas’ involvement in TCW doesn’t mean it’s obligate canon. In the pre-Disney era, ‘canon’ was tiered and only the PT x OT films were the final word. TCW is a ‘what if’/missing moment fanfic and/or self-aware commentary at best. And no, Disney doesn’t get the last word on what constitutes canon either. No matter how hard they push their ‘new canon’ on everyone.
The Skywalker saga was completed with the release of Revenge of the Sith in 2005.
It would be nice if people stopped acting as though self-contained, fully completed stories don’t exist just because some soulless franchise decided to pretend otherwise in order to make maxim profits.

"Looking forward" to the shit-tier intercinine discourse sure to sprout up around "Queer" (it's pretty good, I enjoyed it: sets an excellent mood. Meanders a lot, but that's par for the course with Burroughs' writing - the man was made of heroin and bad decisions). Not the "should straight actors play gay characters" but "this is problematic because Burroughs, and the character is a dick" discussions and the speed-running of popular opinion. Dudes, we can throw this shit around in castles all day, debating "bad Versus no representation", but down there in the shitty cesspits of society, people are barely evolving beyond the branch of "gay people exist? Eww!". A lot of this discourse is going to be monkeys looking at monoliths. Anyway, my Universal Soldier sequels arrived today, fuck yes!

I think my favorite background detail in Challengers is the gay middle aged married couple at the motel, cranky/horny debating if they should invite Patrick to a threesome.

I read someone saying that mike dragged Lucas along to will in s3 post rain fight but Lucas seemed just as determined to be there
Mike prolly just went to grab his raincoat to follow and Lucas was like “hell yeah let’s go apologize to our friend” because he adores will too yall and cares about mike (who is known to make impulsive bad decisions + they are collectively haunted) and was like “can’t let this guy bike alone in pouring rain Christ)

Edit: Adding a note because I'm noticing the correction by @crypticsposting isn't being included in reposts, I'm aware Wes Craven wasn't a writer on the NOEM reboot. He was credited despite having no direct involvement in the film. It was written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer. It doesn't really effect my point so I'm not gonna go back and edit the entire post but I'm just noting here now, I know about the mistake.
BAD PEOPLE CAN BE CREEPS.
People on this hellsite seem to forget this very often when it comes to fictional characters but a villain being a creep doesn't mean the writer is pro-creeps. Infact, the fact they made the villain a creep implies quite the opposite.
Like back when that Nightmare in Elmstreet reboot that everyone hated (and that I think was actually pretty good) came out and turned the subtext of Freddy being a pedophile into domtext some people acted like that meant Wes Craven is a creepy weirdo? Because he decided that the horrible man who murdered kids is also a horrible man who touched kids? No one claimed that him making the original movies means he's pro-child murder. Why does him making Krüger, the exact same character, a pedo (or at least making it much more clear he's a pedo) mean Craven is a pedo?
The cognitive dissonance is so strange.
And to be clear, whether it makes Craven a creep and whether it's a good decision are separate issues. I personally don't mind the change but I understand why people find it unnecessary and a'little weird. It fits the darker and more serious tone of the film but that doesn't mean you have to like the decision. But, whether or not you do, I don't feel it reflects on Wes Craven as a person.
Now admittedly, the people saying that choice makes Craven creepy were a very small but vocal lot. I'm saying this because that sentiment is one I see a lot, especially on this site. That anytime a writer makes a character do a thing, that means the writer support whatever that thing is, even though obviously that's not generally true. I don't think George Lucas is pro-planet-explodination after all.
Just a very strange trend that makes me really hate the writing discourse this site sometimes.

Where is the fandom that only views the Prequels and Original Trilogy as canon? Where can I go to escape the constant onslaught of terrible hot takes that are clearly influenced by Disney's attempts at 'reframing' the saga through their unending stream of churned-out content? Is there anyone left who not only still likes but also still UNDERSTANDS the real Skywalker saga? Who sees the PT x OT as the only true canon and the rest as just optional (and thus not having any requisite bearing on characterisation, plot, themes, etc), and just sees it as the glorified fanfiction that it is?
And especially... where are all the OG Anakin x Padme fans who actually understand the characters and their relationship? Did they disappear? Get fed up with tumblr? Recently, I even went looking for some old Anidala fan vids from the 2000s and early 2010s, only to see those had been deleted, too. It's like a ghost town out here...
Almost everyone I used to connect with over (the real) Star Wars seems to have disappeared over the years and I'm left adrift here in this sea of awful misinterpretations, which I blame mostly on Disney but also on the general obtuseness of tumblr fandom culture.
Ahhhhhh. I'm so tired of it all.
