how to start living in your “it girl” era | 2023 🍸 pt. 1

this is just a fun, random list. feel free to start implementing these ideas into your life to make you feel more like you’re in your “it girl” era 🤍 again: this is meant to be fun. no negativity please.

i. when at lounges, casinos, cocktail bars, nice restaurants, etc.

if you’re of age, try ordering more “upscale” beverages at the bar like classic cocktails (the manhattan, negroni, martini, etc.), wine, or champagne.

it’s also more fun to go during the downtime, late night hours on the weeknight (monday-thursday… even though thursday might start getting busy). unless you want to be in a louder environment where everyone and their mom is on top of each other, ordering over your shoulder because the bar is packed, then go at more quieter times. dressing up nicely, going to a nice establishment, and ordering a nice drink when it’s dimly lit, upscale, and there’s only a few people in there is such a vibe.

if you can, try ordering an uber luxe/premium to the restaurant or valet your car. ***make sure to tip***

ii. when at home

lounge in nice quality pj’s. silk/satin shorts and a sleepy shirt work very well. if it’s cold, opt for longer sleeves and pant legs.

drink water or any beverage you have in a glass, not the bottle or the can it came in.

of course, keep your place smelling good and clean. burn a high quality candle (i find that the expensive candles are definitely worth the money). for a home fragrance, lean less towards scents like vanilla, and more towards scents that are more perfume-like.

if you’re in the process of adding decor to your place, a lot of luxe interior designers like to add those random “art” pieces like sculptures, bowls, paintings, and other random decor around. but they like to keep the furniture minimal. the ambience is almost always natural sunlight during the day, and dark, dim, moody lighting during the evening.

iii. your social media

remain mysterious— posting several times a day, everyday is a bit much. unless you’re an influencer, limit posting to a few times a week, if that. “oh she posted again” doesn’t necessarily scream that you have a life.

keep your photos of similar quality with one another. using the same filter or preset keeps everything uniform if social media matters to you.

refrain from posting when you’re not at your best. refrain from posting you venting about something. be mindful of what you post. does it represent you as a person?

iv. your attitude (to others and yourself)

don’t be a rude person. don’t be bitter. don’t be resentful. don’t be negative. don’t gossip about others. don’t participate in the weird trend of self-deprecating “humor”. you should know you’re that girl, and you should move like her too. you should act in a way that you won’t accept nothing but the best, but still remain humble enough to know that it might take a bit of work on your part. raise your standards with men, raise your standards with friends, raise your standards with yourself. don’t compare your journey or yourself to others, even if they’re on a similar journey. be kind, be loving, and keep it moving on a positive note at all times

While the Troll Kingdom in the Hidden AU is a mix of different centuries of the Middle Ages, Mount Rageous’s aesthetic is based on the kingdom of Rosas from Disney Wish, as shown in their outfits. As for Velvet and Veneer, their outfits are jester-themed.

Since Velvet and Veneer in the au are being controlled by Famin Fortune, both their first and second outfits are redesigned to a harlequin’s but they wear split colored tights and Venetian masks. The diamond patterns range from blue and indigo to purple and Veneer wears a jester hat with bells because he was often treated as a clown by Velvet. The two didn’t know that their harlequin looks hides a harsh reality: a harlequin’s role is to serve an audience, a master .. but it’s nothing without a master and no one cares about who they are beyond that.

The monarch of Mount Rageous, Zircon wears a black cotehardie with golden geometric patterns and trim with a fur collar, darker pants and boots with a blue cape and a crown while Princess Cerise’s medieval look is based on Queen Amaya but with her hair being partially loose and she wears a tiara that is similar to her late mother, Quartzine and her aunt Ruby. Both Marvel and Lux’s outfit is based from the concept art of King Magnifico’s outfits while Gloss’s outfit is based on his prologue outfit. Silke’s ensemble is based on Bazeema but with checkers and Cashmere’s dress is designed after Queen Amaya’s storybook prologue dress with geometric prints and a veil to top it off. Glimmer and Shimmer wear matching dresses but the prints and their accessories set them apart. Since Princess Cerise wears a tiara, Silke, Cashmere, Glimmer and Shimmer wear circlets to show their status as members of the royal family.

The second outfit we see Miss Fisher wear in "Murder Under the Mistletoe" (Season 2, Episode 13) is a fetching green embroidered silk jacket atop her white blouse and white silk faille pants.

Phryne's gorgeous jacket is a luxe green silk with an incredible detailed scene depicted in white thread along every part of the fabric. Large sets of hills and mountains decorate the lower half of the back and sleeves, gradually including trees and then a flock of birds in flight below the sun. Smaller versions of the hills and birds line the notched lapels and the folded collar.

She wears the loose tie of her blouse around her neck and with one tail over her shoulder, and paired with her wide leg silk faille pants. It's the same blouse that appears twice in 2x07 as well as in 2x12. A familiar companion to her white pants, Miss Fisher wears her art nouveau nurse's buckle, seen six times in season one (1x01, 1x03, twice in 1x06, 1x07, and 1x09), but only twice in season two (in 2x11 and here) . The authentic 1920's silver buckle features a woman reaching up with one hand amidst decorative leaves and scrolls.

She finishes her look with green jade earrings (seen in the center of the exhibition photo), and grey strapped suede heels.

When Jinx woke up, she panicked. She wanted to return to that dream, the one where Lux spent the night by her side. Her hands searched through the comforter, and found warmth. Reality settled in, and when she realized that Lux was there, actually there, she let herself relax.

Lux was still asleep, facing her, hair mussed against the silk pillow. Her lips were parted just slightly, breath lifting her shoulders and the comforter draped over them. She slept on her stomach, Jinx noticed.

Jinx reached over and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. At the touch, Lux hummed, waking fully. Her eyes opened, and she smiled through her sleepiness. “Good morning.”

Jinx shared the grin. “Morning.”

“... Your breath stinks.”

“Thanks, I did it just for you.” Jinx exhaled loudly.

Lux giggled as she rolled to the other side. “Ew!”

Jinx cinched her arms around Lux’s waist and pulled her close, ignoring her grumbled protest. She spooned Lux, burrowing her nose into her shoulder. She just held her, enjoyed her.

There was a loud buzzing sound from Lux’s phone. When Lux checked her messages, Jinx only saw a flash of the screen, enough to see it was full of missed calls and texts. Lux made a soft, “Ugh,” before turning the phone over, facedown on the nightstand. Jinx was relieved when she did so: they could pretend just a little longer.

“Are you hungry?” Jinx asked. “I can order some room service.”

Lux nodded.

Usually, the hotel staff would spend as little time as possible near Jinx, their eyes averted as they passed on the food or drink. But today, the attendant offered to set up the tray of pastries on the bed, neck craning around the corner to see Lux. But Jinx wasn’t in the mood to show her off anymore. Now, she wanted her all to herself.

She ordered way too many pastries. They almost overflowed on the tray, crumbs all over the comforter by the time they were finished eating. Jinx put on a sitcom, something mindless and funny while they enjoyed breakfast together.

The whole time, Lux’s phone kept buzzing on the nightstand, the sound growing angrier and angrier. Eventually, she sighed at the alarm clock. They slept in well into the afternoon. “I should get back to the mansion. I’m sure Caitlyn and Vi are worried.”

Jinx wanted to tell her no. No, you’re staying here forever. You’re mine, forever. But she knew better than to deny anyone their freedom. Then again, she could delay reality. Just a little while longer. “Mind if we make a stop first?”

Only when they stepped through the doors of Jinx’s private studio did she start to feel insecure. She and Viktor had created quite the mess, the clutter of genius. But Lux didn’t seem to mind: in fact, she was fascinated.

“I like your artwork,” Lux said, indicating the graffitied walls. Jinx had never thought of the jagged, neon lines that way. They always felt more purposeful than an expression, a way to reclaim her space. It was like calling a spider’s web ‘art’.

“Thanks.” Jinx fell into her chair, spinning in a circle with her braids trailing around her. “This is where the magic happens, doll.”

“I can see that,” Lux giggled. She traced her fingers over the equipment, the scattered papers. They secured one set of lyrics, and Lux read, “‘Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy… baby’? What’s this one?”

Jinx snatched it out of her hands. “Nothing. It’s stupid.”

“It’s not stupid,” Lux insisted, settling into the other chair. “Can you sing it for me?” When Jinx hesitated, Lux took her hand and asked, “Pleeeeaase?”

Ah, what the hell. Jinx pulled up the tracks, murmuring, “It’s not finished yet. But here.”

The song began with a poppy beat. Jinx’s pre-recorded voice sang,

Her own vocals backed her up,

Lux was captivated, listening intently without judgment. She nodded her head along to the beat, foot tapping in time.

It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me At tea time, everybody agrees I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror It must be exhausting, always rooting for the anti-hero

Jinx kept her eyes downcast, not wanting to see Lux’s reaction to the rest of the lyrics. In this moment, in this song, she was more vulnerable than she had ever been before. These were her deepest thoughts on display. Not even Viktor had heard it yet.

Eternity passed, and the song ended. As the last notes faded out, Lux rubbed her fingers over Jinx’s knuckles. “That’s so beautiful,” she murmured.

Her instinct was to deflect. “Ha! It’s something. Like I said, it’s not finished yet.”

Lux rose, settling gently in Jinx’s lap. Her fingers danced around the cut on Jinx’s temple, careful not to touch the wound. She pressed her lips to the top of Jinx’s head, arms resting around her shoulders in an embrace. “Powder? Can I say something?”

“Depends on what it is,” she said, though not unkindly.

“I feel like… you think you’re unlucky, and maybe you are, but that’s not your fault. Just because bad things happen to you, doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.”

Jinx leaned her head against Lux’s chest. She spread her fingers out against Lux’s waist, her thigh. She never wanted to let her go. “I’m glad you think so, Starlight.”

Lux’s phone buzzed again. Jinx wished she could smash it against the wall.

Lux squeezed her one more time, then stood with a grimace. “I really need to get home.”

“Yeah.” Jinx followed her, flipping off the studio’s lights. “Time to face the noise.”

When Caitlyn came down for her morning cup of tea, she was surprised to hear the murmur of her mother’s voice from the kitchen. Cassandra usually only took home meetings in her office. But as Caitlyn drew nearer, she recognized the other voice.

“Ezreal?” Caitlyn asked from the doorway.

He looked rough. His hair was unwashed, bags under his eyes. Usually, he greeted her with a crooked smile, but today he only offered a jerked nod, sipping at his black coffee.

Cassandra pierced her with her gaze. It was a look she reserved for when Caitlyn was in serious trouble, though she hadn’t the foggiest idea what it was she’d done to deserve it. “Caitlyn,” Cassandra said. “Do you know where Lux is?”

The way she asked made it sound like she already knew. Caitlyn hated that game, but answered honestly, “Isn’t she in her room? She didn’t come out with us last night.”

Ezreal’s voice was a hoarse mutter. “Someone hasn’t checked socials.”

Bewildered, Caitlyn pulled out her phone. When she searched ‘Luxanna Crownguard’, her hand clapped over her mouth at the results. Blurry images and videos flooded the feed: Lux and Jinx linked arm in arm, dancing in the neon lights of a club, taking shots at a bar. In one of the pictures, Jinx had Lux pinned against an alley wall, hands dragging down her waist as she kissed her. Caitlyn closed her screen, not wanting to see any more.

Cassandra’s lip twitched, and Caitlyn knew what would come next. “I’ve spent the entire morning doing damage control, fending off calls from Lux’s mother. I promised that I would protect her daughter, that you would protect her. So perhaps you would like to return her calls, explain why a Crownguard is snogging some manic popstar in a filthy sidestreet!”

She kept going, but Caitlyn had shifted her focus to Ezreal. He wasn’t meeting her gaze. She interrupted, “Ez, you were the last one to see her. What did she say to you, exactly?”

“... I don’t know, she’s- she’s acting different. I think something’s wrong, maybe she’s sick-”

Caitlyn prickled at his words. “What. Did she say?”

After a pause, he finally made eye contact, mouth twisted into a scowl. “She broke up with me. And she said she was going out. She didn’t say who with, though.”

So Lux had followed through. At least she wasn’t being unfaithful: that would have been an entire other thread to untangle. Then again, it was hard to appreciate the silver lining when she had created such a mass of storm clouds.

Ezreal added, “That’s why I think something’s off with her. We’ve been dating since high school, you know, we have no problems. I don’t know why she would want to break up-”

But Caitlyn shut him down. “No, Ezreal. I’m sorry to tell you, but this isn’t coming out of nowhere. She has been mulling it over for quite some time…” She thought back to girls’ night. Lux’s crush. Someone she met online. Her memory traveled back farther, to Jinx running out of the dressing room. Where Lux had been all alone.

Fuck. She should have pieced it together. Some detective she turned out to be.

The doorbell rang. The housekeeper answered with a muffled greeting, though Caitlyn was able to pick out the words ‘Miss Crownguard’.

Cassandra hissed, “Finally!” She made for the door, but Caitlyn blocked her path.

“Let me talk to her first,” Caitlyn insisted, but Ezreal had already escaped on her other side.

His voice echoed in the foyer. “Lux!”

She didn’t respond. Caitlyn and her mother exchanged glances. Cassandra mouthed, “Dining room.” They could hide there, eavesdrop out of sight. It was a strange and hastily formed alliance, especially since Cassandra had been so quick to attack when Caitlyn first walked in. But they took their positions on either side of the dining room doorway, facing each other as they listened in.

Ezreal said, “I was really worried about you, are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Ez.” Lux sounded different. Her tone lacked her normal gentle nervousness.

“Did she hurt you at all? We thought she might have kidnapped you or made you take drugs-”

“She didn’t. I chose to go out with her.”

There was a long pause. Ezreal muttered, “Why? Why would you do that, Lux? You realize it’s all over social media. Everyone saw. Not just here, but everyone in Demacia.” His voice began to steadily rise. “Your parents have been calling me all day, Garen’s freaking out. There’s tons of posts and articles about what happened, people accusing you of cheating on me, theories about her ulterior motives, what this means for Progress Day and the contest. Damn, Lux, have you even considered how much damage this is going to do to the band, to our reputation?”

“Are you serious,” she said in a low voice. “God, this is so typical, Ez, all you care about is the way other people see you.”

Cassandra’s eyes widened at Caitlyn. In any other situation, her mother’s shocked expression would have made her laugh. But Caitlyn only raised her eyebrows in acknowledgment.

He let out a light scoff. “Uh, yeah, in this case, I do. We are literally in a popularity contest, Lux. This kind of behavior could tank our numbers. I mean, what were you thinking?”

“Well, maybe I wasn’t, Ez! Maybe I’m tired of thinking.” Anger crept into her tone. “Maybe I’m tired of being perfect, of always doing what everyone else wants me to do, behaving how everyone else wants me to behave! How you want me to behave!”

Cassandra pressed her fingers to her lips, sharing a look with Caitlyn. Not once in Lux’s entire life had they heard her speak with such ferocity.

Ezreal yelled, “Hey, everything I’ve done was in your best interest!”

“Oh give me a break,” she huffed. “This has always been about you and what you want. You want a perfect little doll that could stand onstage with you and hold your hand. You want a love that’s marketable, demure, aesthetically pleasing. But that’s not what I want, Ezreal, that’s never what I wanted! I want adventure, I want chaos, I want passion and honesty and I don’t care how messy or dark it is, I don’t care what other people think!”

“Lux,” he said, desperate now. “Open your eyes. She’s using you. She’s just trying to get ahead in the contest. She’s ruining your reputation on purpose-”

Her voice dripped with venom. “Not everyone thinks like you, Ezreal. Jinx cares about me, and I care about her, too. That’s it.”

A soft sound came from the top of the stairs. “What?”

Caitlyn’s blood ran cold. Both her and Cassandra came out from their hiding spot to affirm what they already knew. Lux didn’t notice them, though. She, too, was staring up at Vi, her mouth open, guilt in her expression. “V-Vi, I- it’s not-”

Ezreal muttered, “Fuck this. I’m out.” He threw the denim jacket over his shoulders.

Caitlyn said softly, “Perhaps that’s best, Ezreal. Get home safely.”

“No.” He turned on them all, sneering, “I’m out of the band.”

“... What?” Vi was descending now, confusion mingling with the hurt. “No, Ez, what’s going on? Lux, what-?”

“You haven’t heard?” he scoffed. “She’s sleeping with the enemy.” And he slammed the door behind him.

The silence of the house consumed them. Caitlyn noticed Lux was wearing a turtleneck: just above the fabric, a small bruise was poking out.

“Is that true?” Vi asked. “Is that… is that where you were last night, Lux? You were with Jinx?”

Lux said nothing, but it was more than an answer.

Vi huffed softly, feet thudding as she stepped off the stairs. “I see.”

“Vi, I can explain-” Lux tried.

“Forget it.” Vi snatched her red jacket off the coathanger, brushing past her towards the door. “There’s nothing to explain.”

And she was gone.

Lux crossed her arms over her body, holding back tears. Caitlyn went to her, hugged her.

“Luxanna.” Cassandra stood at the edge of the room, considering what to say. “... We’re glad you’re safe, darling. I’ll let your mother know you made it back home. I’ll… I’ll tell her you’re alright, but in no condition to speak to her yet. She’ll listen to me. And if she doesn’t, well… I’m a politician, I’ll make her listen.” She clearly wanted to continue, reassure her in some other way, but she settled for, “Caitlyn, she’s shaking like a leaf. Make her some tea.”

When Jinx returned to the hotel, she decided she didn’t want to be alone, not right now. She threw open the door to Viktor’s room, calling, “Dobroye ultro!”

But he wasn’t there. Jinx almost left, but as she scanned his mess, she noticed a small electric engine on top of a stack of papers. Curiosity got the better of her. She picked up the object, diagnosing its wires and knobs. Her finger pressed against a metal part, and a spark shocked her. Jinx gasped in surprise, dropping the engine. She cursed as she bent down to pick it up.

And froze when she saw the bottom of the desk drawer. It was deeper than it should have been, almost like the drawer had a false bottom. Her assessment turned out to be true, and she removed a weird, clunky laptop and set of headphones.

Jinx chuckled to herself as she opened the laptop, wondering what kind of strange content she would find. She made quick work of the password, frowned at the list of files. The vast majority were video files. All from the same application, one she didn’t recognize. She found the application’s icon, and clicked on it.

A live feed of Silco’s office. From several angles, she discovered. He was there now, perched on his desk while Sevika spoke to him. Jinx’s fingers trembled as she picked up the headphones, and listened.

“- gave us some trouble, but he’s been taken care of,” said Sevika.

Silco examined a vintage telescope, running his bony fingers over the brass. “Good. Such a shame. It’s difficult enough finding talent. Not to mention his shares in the company. But violence against me or my family cannot be tolerated.”

Sevika agreed with a nod. “Speaking of… you heard about her date last night?”

“I did. I was… displeased that you didn’t go with them.”

“I had other priorities,” Sevika huffed.

“Jinx should be your top priority, every time,” he said.

“I tracked the chauffeur through the whole night. They made it back safe, and the girl is already gone.”

“The girl,” Silco murmured. “I still don’t understand why Jinx hasn’t said anything. Surely she knows I can add her to the deal. Especially since a vacancy just opened up for Shimmer’s lead guitarist.”

Sevika said sourly, “You don’t have enough riding on this contest?” He gave her a questioning look, and she immediately backed down. “Sorry, that was out of-”

“No. Clearly something’s weighing on your mind. Be honest with me.”

She took a deep breath, and said in a low voice, “They won, Silco. They actually won a round. You made it sound like this was an easy cash grab, like we would mow them down, but they pulled through. And now… I know why he had to go, but he was the most experienced out of all of us. I mean, you’re telling me you’re not a little worried? Especially with your kid on the line?”

Jinx held her breath, as if they could hear her.

Silco shook his head. “We won’t lose, Sevika. I never lose. They’ll never take her from me.”

“You’re the one who offered her up in the first place. I know you want to take down Medarda, but is it really worth the risk?”

“I defined the risk.” He set down the telescope, rising to pace around the room. “Other than Mel, you and I are the only ones who know about our little… side gamble. And it will remain that way until we defeat them. Mel will lose, her little energy empire will crumble, and we will emerge victorious in a new Zaun. Jinx never has to know what was really at stake. It’ll be worth it, in the end.”

The plastic creaked as Jinx slammed the computer closed. Her shoulders heaved, her breath sharp and angry. The combination of Viktor and Silco’s betrayals swam in her mind, clouding her thoughts.

She would have to deal with them one at a time.

The Connection between the Creator and Their Interiors

An innovative exhibit of more than 70 garments from female fashion designers including Jeanne Paquin, Robe à la Française, and Madame Hardy, showcasing how and why the aesthetics of interior decoration influenced their brands.

In the late 19th century when interior decoration became a possible profession, female designers constantly used French interiors to influence their own styles and designs to enrich their brand leading to an influx number of women starting haute couture houses in the fashion capitals of the world. Ultimately, these fashion creators devoted themselves to their luxe or modest interiors at home as they also carefully crafted their couture salons with their garments serving as testaments for the art of decoration.

The Museum at FIT showcases this connection, between the female creator and their interiors, as it dives into the different eras in fashion and how specific trends in interior entered into design. In the 1890s during the Belle Époque, luxurious silks dominated inside the home which translated to garments where a dramatic and overly feminine design was then produced and vice versa. Jeanne Paquin, who opened her couture house in 1891, rose to fame during the luxurious Belle Époque where she created innovative designs that epitomized the era by using silk taffeta and silk chiffon. Her success led her to become a powerful figure in fashion as the location of her couture house, on rue de Paix, reflected the exclusivity of her brand which later took abroad in London. Her couture shop in Paris was decorated in a modern and elegant way with a rococo revival style as she loved interiors and modern furnishings and was influenced by them like many female designers in her time and there on after.

During the 1890s to 1970s, many female designers felt that "the interior of a home is a natural project of the soul," as Coco Chanel herself stated.
