Btw I suspect Mappa isn't telling us something in relation to Ice Adolescence's cancellation. JJK 0 was made in four months -which is an absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable crunch for the creators working on it- if they wanted the movie done it would've been done years ago instead of delay after delay then eventual cancellation. Something is fishy

Ice adolescence being cancelled is like the ultimate betrayal by mappa. Mappa's first BIG big hit, its magnum opus, was never jjk or csm or aot. It was Yuri on Ice. It's time they remember their roots, for those roots are gay.

Logically I know that ice adolescence probably got cancelled because Mappa didn’t want it to look like they were releasing Russian propaganda amidst their ongoing conflict with Ukraine which is totally valid but THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE IF THEY RELEASED IT 8 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED

*Takes a drag from my cigarette* Seven years. Seven long years I’ve been waiting for you, and here you call me and say you won’t be showing? All this time- all this fucking time- *My voice breaks. I pause and take another drag*
I’ve been waiting for you and you abandoned me. You promised me, but here you are, sending me a message saying that we’re over? That your cursed fighting side bitch is more important than me? The one who got you where you are today?
When you remember the nights we shared making AMVs, just know, I won’t even be thinking about you. *It’s a lie, I know it’s a lie, I’ll never forget. I’ll never move on.*

I've seen some people try to tie the cancellation to the events in Russia and claiming anyone disappointed are just selfish and should know MAPPA would never want to anger world tensions by having a queer Russian character in a movie. But last year, the cancellation was explained and foreshadowed with MAPPA's "reason" (excuse) that YOI didn't sell well for them so the movie's progress would be unlikely. They considered YOI small and insignificant and there probably is a homophobia more than "concerns for Russia" considering how they can just easily pump out popular IPs than take a risk with something not based off a shonen manga and that has queer themes (if only as allowed as they were in the first series).
Absolutely.
Way before the Russia - Ukraine war they had already sidelined YOI, which leads me to think this was not the main factor, even if it might’ve played a part in the decision to put out the announcement.
Also YOI was huge when it first aired and it definitely helped Mappa grow as a studio, they definitely could’ve put something out between 2019-2021, but, from the moment the studio got bigger projects, namely the shonen animes, and took in more projects than they could handle, they basically gave up on YOI.
Mappa has been a mess of a studio for a while now and this just solidified it.

Back in 2016, when I was in school, I used to be obsessed with Yuri on ice, the characters, the animation, THE MUSIC. 7 years I'm a Uni student now, but my love for this anime and Victuuri has still not changed. I'm saddened by MAPPA's descision, but they will always hold a special place in my heart.
