Omg how are you watching Maple Town?? I've been looking for it foe ages!
Yup! I watched only the first 26 episodes, alas.
I'm Saudi and an Arabic speaker, it seems the Arabic dub is not lost media. It's probably a redub of the English dub, as it also stops at episode 26. Before the Venus Centre (which fully dubbed the sequel series Palm Town from Japanese to Arabic, all 44 episodes!), there were no Arabic dub companies dubbing directly from Japanese.
This dub isn't as good as Venus Centre's Palm Town dub, but it's still serviceable and it looks like fans attached the audio to a higher-quality Japanese/raw video.
Unfortunately, for the English dub, much of it is lost media, there are a few official casette/VHS releases, but not of all of the 26 dubbed episodes (of the original Japanese 52 episodes, most were not dubbed...), there are fan-made collections that include otherwise lost episodes. I saw a lovely effort on YouTube to edit the English dub audio of A Baby Comes to Maple Town to a new, high quality Japanese raw video.
The person who was subtitling Maple Town to English only managed 17 episodes and the subtitles were... often inaccurate in places and seemed to be a dubtitle (they used some cynical jokes/gags that sounded more like the English dub or completely missed obvious/easy Japanese, so I think the person was subtitling based on either English dub scripts or a redub fo the English dub), then, they gave up, due to harrassment, it seems, unfortunately.
I saw the English subtitles on animebee, but they're also up on 9anime[dot]gs and 9anime[dot]to
Note: the subtitles were originally made available without being attached to a video, whoever uploaded them to anime streaming websites mistakenly used the raw video/audio for episode 6 for both episode 5 and 6. So when you watch episode 5, you see the subtitles for episode 5, but the video/sound is episode 6. ^^;;;; Other than that, they're serviceable!
It's such a sweet, tender-hearted show and so beautifully animated. I hope someone continues subtitling the rest, especially all of the parts us dub-watchers never got to see! The language is actually fairly simple, too, for the most part!

Anybody watched the Maple Town anime?
Was there an episode where the characters had a fight cause they were designing a Merry-go-round ride and couldn't agree on what the seats should look like? I think I loved this show as a kid but I'm not sure if I'm not remembering wrong, all I can remember is a bunny girl character named Patty in a cute pink dress.
I look up the images for this show and the nostalgia doesn't quite hit, so I'm iffy it I'm not mixing it up with some other show. Maybe it was the Shin Maple Town Monogatari: Palm Town-hen spin off, as I remember a more city vibe than rural town.
If I could see that Merry-go-round episode I think my brain would stop looping back to it again and again. Does anybody know if it's even this show it's from, or even the name of the episode?

favorite piece of lost media?
to start off thank you for asking this i love you. secondly i apologize for the amount of exploding im about to do.
!LONG POST AHEAD!
my Favorite piece of lost media is the series Maple Town!!
Tumblr media
consisting of the original Maple Town Stories anime, two 30 minute films, and its sequel New Maple Town Stories: Palm Town Chapter.
while not entirely lost, the full original series is not very easily obtainable if youre an English speaker. ive yet to find a (working) torrent but i know there have been some out there in both Japanese and French. (JP rip of original 52 MTS episodes HERE! no subs) an English dub was originally planned to broadcast in the US for 65 episodes, only 39 of which aired, and from there only about 28 episodes ended up available thanks to a fan made DVD compilation. very few of the Saban dub were actually officially released on VHS.
personally i have yet to buy the DVD but i would really like to considering i still cant find rips of more than a few episodes. most fan projects ive seen involving dubbing/subbing the series have unfortunately fallen through afaik :( though there is a subbed version of the 30 minute Palm Town film available on youtube!
you may actually recognize this series from THIS video that went a little viral in 2018!! the clip originates from the Palm Town Chapter!
or perhaps their Maple Friends figures Tonka released to its US audience! (not to be confused with Sylvanian Families!!!)
Tumblr media
it had its fair share of figurines & playsets made and sold from the late 80s to the early 90s. of course there was Japanese merch as well! i havent come across much but it ranges from cameras, to play sets, to this cute bag!! vvv
Tumblr media
im actually a VERY proud owner of two pieces of Maple Town memorabilia which i hold very near and dear to my heart <333
this thermos (that i have since cleaned) produced by Tonka in 1988

and THIS animation cel of Miss Deer which i keep framed and ready to hang! :]
Tumblr media
the reason i even initially discovered this series was because of the roller skating clip from Palm Town- which i sometimes still see reposted on twitter. i think the reason i fell so in love with it aside from the art was just the fact that it found me at a really dark time. it was something i could dedicate my time to, searching for episodes and browsing forums, and something that brought me so much joy that i almost started feeling nostalgic for it despite not even being born when it aired. the familiarity of it all made me feel a sense of comfort, and the thrill of unearthing content id never seen would reel me in time and time again. thankfully after all this time i still feel that way even if i find im not as invested in my searches as i was before.
to put it simply, for me Maple Town Stories is the warm hug of a fireplace after a very, very long walk home in the rain.
