#Marcy in the Boiling Isles
Text
it seems like some people in the owl house fandom still need to hear this
Guys.
The Owl House is not going to end with Luz leaving the Boiling Isles behind and living in the human realm.
Luz has established so much of an actual whole life in the Boiling Isles, none of which can be easily left behind.
Take her relationship with Amity. Remember what Luz said to Amity when first asking to date her? She said "I don't know what my future's going to look like, but it would be so cool if you were in it." Does that seem like it would remotely make sense, after that, for it to just...end? With the two possibly never seeing each other again?
Her learning to be a witch too. It's such a big part of the show, the amount of time that’s been dedicating to her wanting to learn magic, to her finding the glyphs and teaching herself how to use them, developing and honing her skills with them, and that she’s fully enrolled in a school for magic too. It honestly feels very much like a whole life-ambitions thing. It would make no sense for her to just go back to a world where none of the skills she's spent so much time and effort learning can be used and just. Stay there.
The Owl House never felt like it was trying to send any anti-escapism message or anything like that. Luz hasn't treated the Isles like they're just a way to live out her fantasies and escape reality for a long, long time. Arguably since the beginning, even. She said in the first episode that it wasn't the PG fantasy world she'd always dreamed of. And the fact that her life on the Boiling Isles isn't some escapist fantasy has only gotten more and more clear over time, it's been pointed out by plenty of folks in this fandom before.
Honestly, everything Luz has gone through on the Boiling Isles and everything she's been doing there feels like putting down roots and charting out a whole life course there. And The Owl House overall has always been very much about making one's own decisions, deciding one's own future. There've been long text post essays on that. That's what Luz has been doing this whole time, and she's been doing it within the context of the Boiling Isles. It includes her mom, but it also includes everycreature she's come to know and love in the demon realm and everything she's been learning to do there, none of which would be applicable back on Earth.
Not to mention her mom is literally the ONLY thing she’s ever expressed wanting to go back to in the human realm, and we’ve known for a long time she was bullied and ostracized there, and in Thanks To Them Camilla’s nightmare flashbacks and some of Luz’s video diary entries only drove it in even further just how out of place she always was in the human realm. She’s more accepted on the Boiling Isles by now than she EVER was in the human realm. On her mom’s doorstep after the events of King’s Tide, she said “I’m back.” She didn’t say “I’m home.” When she did say “Yeah. I’m home.” after Camilla said she was glad Luz was home, I don’t think it could’ve been much clearer in her voice or her face (which the screen took a moment to fully focus on) that those words didn’t feel true to her.
When Luz DID decide in Thanks To Them that the best course of action for her would be to stay in the human realm, this was framed as being entirely wrong. Partly because it was out of a false belief that she would be of no help and only made people’s lives worse, and partly because it was very much established how she did not belong in the human realm. Camilla clearly knew Luz staying in the human realm wouldn’t be right as soon as she heard Luz say this. Her immediate and wholehearted response was “No, no way in heck am I letting you do that, don’t you even say that. You’re going back there, and now that I’ve seen what you’re up against, you’re taking me WITH you.”
Nothing about The Owl House feels like it’s leading into Luz saying goodbye to the demon realm and going back to living the rest of her life in the human realm. It would make no sense for the show to end like that, and everything about the show feels deliberately built up in a direction that goes completely against ending like that.
So yeah. Anycreature who’s been worrying about this, you can relax.

Oh god now that toh ends with luz being able to travel between worlds ppl are using that to dunk on amphibia. And now that belos died ppl are using that to dunk on su.
They are different shows people! They have different themes! Amphibia is a classic take on isekai as escapism! Marcy went to amphibia to avoid her real life and while she had fun she didnt mature until after she accepted she needed to embrace change in her life! Anne matured in amphibia bc she always recognized that she has her own life to get back to! Sasha matured after realizing that too! Leaving amphibia for good means to embrace the step out of childhood! Something thats inevitable for everyone!
The owl house is about finding a community in midst of ostracization! Luz stayed in the boiling isles because she found people who accepted her quirks! The boiling isles was in danger from a bigot and luz helps her new community defeat him! Its a very queer story! Community is the center of the story so it makes sense for luz to be able to go back to the boiling isles since shes maintaining her place in the community!
Steven universe is about choosing to be kind! Its that everyone has their own specific traumas that they can overcome with the right support! Its about surviving in a world of bigots at any cost, even if it you have to work with the bigots to carve out a space for the people you love! Because people like you exist and theres nothing anyone in power can do about it! Its also a very queer story! The diamonds can never stamp out the off colors because they will always be there! Steven works with the diamonds not because he likes them but because they can improve the world for his family if only he could get through to them! Hes rewarded for choosing to be kind with success because the theme of the show is hope! Hope that anyone can change! But even though the diamonds stop being fascist steven still doesnt like them because its not about forgiveness! Its about fixing things! Stevens just polite about it!
The owl house starts off with the assumption that everyone can change but its not about the potential its about the willingness to change! The focus is on belos, whos had every chance to turn his life around but will never admit that hes wrong! And the show posits that if someone isnt willing to change theyre not worth helping! Its not about whether or not the character is fascist its about if theyre willing to stop being fascist! Several characters stop being fascist and are welcomed by the characters with open arms belos just wasnt one of them! Several characters clean up their acts but dont adequately address the previous harm they did and are STILL fully forgiven eventually! For toh forgiveness is paired with fixing things you just need to give it time!
And theres an argument that some of these shows didnt do their themes well. If you wanted to portray amphibia as an escapism world that the girls need to leave behind to get to their richer futures then having them get such caring found families go against that by giving them a potential of a good life in the isekai world. Steven universe uses the diamonds as metaphors for mental illness and relationships but its hard to stick with that when you also need to consider the countless other gems they hurt. I think its also fair if people prefer one theme over another.
But a lot of stuff i see comparing these shows just go over surface similarities? Like oh shit! These two shows have the same character archetypes! They have the same inciting incident! This must mean that theyre exactly the same in everything but names and artstyle and are trying to say the exact same things! Like. No. Sometimes,,,,,two stories,,,,,,can talk about two different things,,,,,,,

me and my friend are obsessed with our own crossover 😭🙏
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
why is he such an embarrassing amount of short?
vague explanation:
since the music box in Amphibia is charged by the 3 calamity stones
this music box would be charged by the power of the moonstone and sundrop
like, every dimension has a music box that takes them to and from another specific dimension
or just a magical item, since in Amphibia, the owl house and gravity falls are technically connected
so in the owl house, the item would be the door/suitcase thing
and in gravity falls, it would be? something. but gravity falls, which is Earth, maybe the item would be literally Bill or the rift globe thingy idk
and when one of these items gets lost in another dimension, when activated, it will lead to the dimension it's from??
like, the music box is from Amphibia, so it leads to Amphibia
the door is from the boiling isles, so it leads to the boiling isles
the rift is from Earth, so it leads to Earth
and after Marcy finds it with leftover power from the moonstone and sundrop, after opening it, it takes her to the tangled verse
before everything in tangled happens
so around episode 8 Marcy appears
she and Varian become besties😝
then Queen for a Day occurs.
and because i’m too lazy to type out the full thing rn
Marcy basically takes Varian to Amphibia to escape the law and get newt therapy‼️💞 (hence the Amphibia Varian design)

Why, out of GF, Amphibia, and TOH, only Luz didn't have to leave her new world behind:
I've seen people complain about Amphibia and to a lesser extent, Gravity Falls, for having their series end with a goodbye; the main characters having to leave their found families and this world they've grown to love and return to regular life. But the thing is, the three shows all have MASSIVELY different morals, that each fit in with how the goodbyes (or lack thereof) work into the finales.
Gravity Falls has a large theme of temporary goodbyes and reconciling. Stan and Ford being the primary example. But there are others: Soos and Melony, Wendy and Robbie, even Dipper and Mabel to an extent. The show builds upon this with Gravity Falls being a VACATION, they aren't trapped there, they could theoretically go home at any time. Episodes such as Summerween and Dipper and Mabel Vs. The Future also build on the tone, telling that it's okay to both grow up and move on, but you don't have to leave behind what you once loved in doing so.
The final conflicts (Wierdmaggedon) are caused because of characters not being able to let go. Stan couldn't let go of Ford, Mabel couldn't let go of Gravity Falls, Gideon couldn't let go of Mabel.
Gravity Falls teaches the viewer that even if you love something, you have to let it go, and eventually it will return. In the words of Bill Cipher: "We'l meet again. Don't know where, don't know when. I just knew we'll meet again, some sunny day."
Tumblr media
Amphibia has a similar theme of Gravity Falls, but it takes it further. Amphibia tells you that if you don't let go, sometimes things will only get worse. The primary example for this is the show's catalyst event: Marcy getting Anne to steal the Music Box. Marcy chose to go to Amphibia, rather than move away, and she dragged her friends into it with her. Instead of having a long distance friendship with Sasha and Anne, she took them to an alternate dimension in order to spend eternity on a massive adventure, and it got her killed. Marcy and Anne died and Sasha tried to kill herself.
And that's only Marcy. Sasha was a control freak that bordered on yandere at the height of her villain arc. Sasha couldn't accept that Anne was beginning to move on from the toxic friendship that the Calamity Trio had locked themselves into.
The trio were horrible to eachother, pre-character arcs, and they needed to focus on self improvement before they could even hope to be good friends. In the time between 'All In' and the epilog, the Calamity Trio would not have actually been able to be good for eachtoher. They say they forgive eachother, but that was forgiveness given during a WAR. Post show, the real feelings would start to bubble up. Anne's resentment for the betrayals, Marcy’s abandonment issues, Sasha's definite self hatred. The trio HAD to split up to have any semblance of a friendship.
Amphibia tells its audience that not all good things can last, and if you obsess and force it to stay, it can destroy you.
Tumblr media
The Owl House has a completely opposite moral. It tells you to find your people, and fight for them.
Luz lived in the Human Realm, but it was never her home. Her home was with Camila and Manny, but when Manny died, Camila and Luz's relationship began to falter. That world wasn't her home. When Luz found the Boiling Isles, she was always supposed to be able to leave. This wasn't a summer trip she didn't want at first, or a one way portal. The Boiling Isles was HER choice.
Luz picked Bonesburrow. Luz picked Hexside. Luz picked The Owl House. Her home was always meant to be The Boiling Isles. She only started trying to find a way back to Earth because the choice was taken from her. Luz no longer had the choice to go back to the Human Realm. In fact, the only time Luz chose Humans over Isles was when she was PUNISHING herself for helping Belos.
Luz got to stay in the Boiling Isles because TOH tells its audience that where you start isn't where you should always stay. Find your place and find your people. And when you do, hold it dear and never let go. "Us weirdos have to stick together."

If both luz and marcy both went to the boiling isles when they were younger and competed for amity, who would amity chose ?
As lovable as Marcy is, I think Amity would still go for Luz.

( I got a lot to ramble about after reading the Amphibiland pitch bible, but I'll start with Marcy) I have not been able to stop thinking about how Marcy is described in it. SHE WAS IN A TRAVELING TROUPE OF PERFORMERS?? HSHDHJEHF
my headcannon is If she never went to Amphibia, she would have become a more joke-y person to rebel against her family's high expectations as described here (she did in canon post Amphibia by becoming a webcomic artist, maybe without Amphibia she'd have become a performer who knows) (but also that's just my tendency to always tie the concept art and the actual show together, Beta Luz is 100% older Luz if she found the Boiling isles at like 16 rather than 14 in my head)
and are you KIDDING like how interesting would it be to have a show where Sasha is desperately trying to keep their group together, while Marcy is already kind of mentally checked out of their friendship... THE DRAMA. THE GROWING APART PAINS OF IT ALL. The first thing that comes to my mind is just how cool it would be to have a scene where Marcy realizes the other girls are not at all ready to grow apart, meanwhile she's been in the process of doing that this whole time (a one sided codependency? or, 2 sided in this case) it's just so interesting, seeing as she was the one trying to keep them together in the show

I don't know why I stay up late at night thinking about this but:
Headcanons for how the girls dealt with periods in their magical adventures
Anne is a trans girl. therefore, she doesn't have a period.
Sasha is one of those late bloomers who hasn't had her period yet and gets it at 14 when the whole Amphibia thing is already over. poor girl has a complex about being a late bloomer and seeing her classmates already getting periods.
Marcy already had a bunch of pads and/or tampons on her backpack when she appeared in Newtopia and, when she started to run out, she showed the newt servants how to make new ones for her. they were disgusted but they cooperated.
Luz also had a bunch of pads and/or tampons on her bag because she was heading for a few months of summer camp. and, even though witches have a bit of a different anatomy than humans, they do still get pregnant so they do still get periods so there must be some weird, magical way they deal with periods on the Boiling Isles too. so, when she started to run out, she just started using whatever magical method the afab witches of the Demon Realm use.
I don't know why I felt the need to do this. but I do spend a lot of time wondering "how the fuck?" and I guess now I have a headcanon.

Oooooo, that design for the core is super cool, I love them being a fucked up olm thing. I wonder, were they “created” already being an olm, or was some olm used as the body for them to inhabit when the core was created? I just noticed the note about their current host being an olm kicked out of proteus lol nvm …Do they still have a reason to use Marcy as a host like in canon, if they already have a host in that olm? Also, do they have a “true” form, or are they simply formless without a host?
Other questions, can all humans use magic if they know how in this au, or did the calamity stones unlock the ability in the girls when they absorbed their power? What kind of magic do you think Anne’s parents would learn, if they could?
So you mention Marbles the moth was made as a way to communicate with the core… does it have a mind of its own, or was Marcy unknowingly always communicating with the core when she uses Marbles? …Actually wait, I might be making an assumption there that Marbles would work like a Palisman from the Owl House. Is Marbles animate? Or is it just a staff shaped like a moth?
Thank you! I got inspired by a design for the Core I saw online that was olm shaped so I used that idea haha. This olm essentially sacrificed themself to become the body for this artificial god, its mind being absorbed into the core like all the rest. So the olm is pretty much their “True Form.” The Core uses Marcy’s body to begin its plans, as it can possess beings while still being asleep. Marcy falls victim to this because she finds Marbles and has the wit gem’s power embedded into her which ends up awakening Marbles.
As for humans using magic, if they had access to the ingredients in Amphibia they could, but the magic is unique to Amphibia and its resources. It’s like Luz in the Boiling Isles: she herself has no magic but she can use the magical resources around her. The stones are what gave the trio their powers, as the box was unused for a long enough time that a bit of their power will always be embedded in them until the box gets destroyed. If Anne’s parents could learn magic I think Mrs. Boonchuy would learn fire magic and Mr. Boonchuy would learn electric magic (I’ve actually been considering if they decide to go with her to Amphibia in this au cuz I always thought that’d be cool.)
Marbles does work similarly to how a Palisman does in the owl house, but it can’t detach from the staff. It gains its own personality when the wit gem’s power is infused into it, but this is also what gets the Core’s attention. I wrote some stuff down about Marbles here:

As always, you are welcome to ask more questions! They are very fun to answer :D

Okay information on the Calamity Trio in my Amphibia TOH AU, because I felt like info dumping and because I've been thinking about the Owl House a lot lately. (Though I will probably post a more polished version of this once I complete some art pages for the AU, and some details may change in between that)
Anne (Luz Equivalent)
She first came to the Boiling Isles with Sasha (trying to find Marcy), only to be separated due to a combination of weird magical forest shenanigans and the start of a conflict brewing between them.
Lived in a forest near the Plantars' home for about a week until Sprig found her.
While she does encounter glyphs very early on she takes a long time to learn them (only actively practicing when it becomes very clear that the Plantars are in trouble).
Before she learns to use glyphs though she instead relies mostly on team work with Sprig and the later on the other witches that she has managed to connect with.
Enters Hexside as a single track student (hasn't fully settled on which track she would go in though). Though she mostly joined because of Sprig.
Sasha (Amity Equivalent)
Following her separation from Anne, she made her way to a Bonesborough.
Immediately she encountered the same issues that Luz of being in a hostile world except without the protection of a powerful witch. Additionally she found herself in conflict with the Emperor's coven. This lead to a strong distrust towards most witches. (Added with the fact that she just isn't a very trusting person overall
An early protection measure that she took was stealing a low power concealment stone to disguise herself as a witch.
Eventually through a series of complicated events ended up in partnership with Head Witch Grime and enrolls in Hexside as a bard track student. She has fairly consistently maintained the role of Top Student since then
Was given a Heron palisman by Grime to assist in falsifying her ability to use magic.
First reunites with Anne at Hexside, with a scheme that leads to Anne being banned from the school. This is later followed by a more tense reunion during the Covention mostly due to Grime and Sprig's involvement.
Marcy (Hunter Equivalent)
Arrived in the Boiling Isles before Anne and Sasha did (though not by much) and through a series of unknown events was found by the Emperor's Coven.
Despite very clearly maintaining her nerdy personality and fascination at pretty much every aspect of the Boiling Isles, her memories of the human realm appear to be completely gone. (The cause of this is complicated because I didn't want to fully go into the Grimwalker route, because... well you may not know this but I like Marcy and I'm not doing that.)
"Artificer Rogue" similar to canon Marcy, and has become incredibly involved with developing and improving on magically infused technology, various gadgets, and potions.
She rarely leaves the castle both due to the requirements of her position and general loyalty to Andrias. If traveling she generally goes with Lady Olivia which brings her to some important events (likely how she reunites with Anne).
Has access to her uncharged phone along with a bag containing some of her belongings.
A few other notes
The equivalent to Witches Before Wizards is an episode in which Anne is tricked into going on a quest to save Marcy and Sasha. And not going to lie a tiny, probably concerning part of me really wants to draw that ending.
Magically infused technology is significantly better developed though still quite rare in this setting. (Reasoning actually had nothing to do with Marcy but was great for establishing her role).
The equivalent to Understanding Willow/Hollow Mind is probably going to involve traveling into Marcy's mind, though I'm still settling on how that will play out
Anyway, this was a really random collection of details. I'll probably update more later, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Another Dumb Idea of Mine
I just finished watching every episode of Gravity Falls with my brother and I thought of another crossover idea.
For now, I'm gonna call it "The Next Summer Together."
The premise is that it's the summer after the events of Gravity Falls and Mabel and Dipper are back. But the town has attracted all sorts of other weirdos looking to spend their summer in Gravity Falls.
Gravity Falls but with all the other Disney Television Animation characters. Or at least, the ones that I like/remember. Like...
The Owl House: Camila decides to take the kids out for a nice, safe, normal vacation since they've all been so hard at work trying to rebuild The Boiling Isles. But when they get there, they discover that King and Eda have stowed away. (Cast: Luz, Eda, King, Camila, Willow, Gus, Vee, Hunter, and Amity.)
Star vs the Forces of Evil: (slight AU) After erasing the magic of the Butterfly Family and choosing to stay on Earth with Marco, the Diaz Family goes on vacation to Oregon. But even without magic, Star still manages to cause/find trouble. (Cast: Star, Marco, Angie and Rafael Diaz.)
Amphibia: After the events of Amphibia, Anna, Sasha and Marcy go on a camping trip together. But all roads lead to Gravity Falls. (Cast: Sasha, Anne, Marcy, Mr and Mrs. Boonchuy.)
The Ghost and Molly McGee: After winning a contest, the McGees go on vacation for the summer. Scratch seems to be drawn to something in the town, but doesn't know what. (Cast: Mr and Mrs McGee, Molly, Scratch, Libby, and Darryl.)
And I thought of a few episode ideas like:
Luz has to prevent Dipper from catching King and trying to stream him online.
Mabel starts crushing on Marco. Dipper tries to tell her that Marco already has a girlfriend, but Mabel won't listen.
Dipper, Marco, Hunter, Gus, and Luz play a game of Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons.
Grunkle Stan and Eda have an awkward reunion, and Mabel thinks she can hook them up back together.
Star and Marco go on a double date with Luz and Amity, but it turns into a competition to be the cutest couple in Gravity Falls.
In an attempt to make more money, Gus teams up with Grunkle Stan to have illusions be an attraction at the Mystery Shack.
Luz asks Dipper to help make sure that her mom's nature hike is as normal as possible.

Some interesting potential occurred to me. (Bits of it already occurred before, but the Owl House finale really added something interesting.)
Within three-four years of the main events of Season 3, Gus has set up an exchange program between the Demon Realm and the Human Realm. So humans can have the opportunity to visit and learn about the Boiling Isles while witches and demons can do the same for Earth.
Marcy moved to Hopkinton, MA after the end of the Amphibia adventure. (And it is pretty much canon that The Owl House and Amphibia share a universe.) Imagine if she heard about the opportunity and drove out (a few hours away to Gravesfield, CT) to sign up and check out this new fantasy world.

idea: crossover
toh & amphibia are canonically linked, even if the creators meant it mostly as a joke. so we are in the future, probably 10years after everything (due to the calamity trio only meeting again after 10yrs, the end of marcy's journal, etc), the characters find themselves together or separated but gradually meet each other, maybe marcy in the boiling isles or everyone is in a third separate dimension, so hexsquad and calamity trio meet, maybe the boonchuys meet camila at one point, sprig meets king, idk. but yeah so these characters meet, and the cartoon will be in a different animation style because well the original shows both have such different styles so making a secret third style to fit both of them makes the most sense, also the cartoon is darker in themes because both shows originally had that planned and also they're all adults now so of course that'll work out (and sashannarcy will be canonised finally of course of course), and luz & co will be very close to their beta designs (only because i love those so much so y'know, obviously that'll happen too) and it'll be awesome queer funny cartoon horror with deep themes and cool shenanigans and lots of episodes maybe like 10seasons, enough time to get everything told and have all the awesome fillers we love and the ideas that never got to fruition will have place to shine here and also at some point we get back to the boiling isles and also amphibia and we get those backstories that never got to surface for example caleb & evelyn and maybe the hooty & hunter episode and the beach episode and the aftermath of amphibia building itself up again and a yunan & olivia wedding and there will be no loose ends and it will be amazing and the show will never get cancelled ever who's with me??? i want this so bad. i want this sooo baaaaaad.

ALRIGHT, OWL FANDOM, LISTEN
I may be slightly delusional and just praying to whoever above for more TOH content. HOWEVER, in 'Elsewhere And Elsewhen', Luz mentions she has a journal, which she could've possibly started when she first arrived on the Boiling Isles. Maybe at the start of S2?
Tumblr media
SO, could we maybe, possibly, hipotetically get 'Luz's Journal' to be a thing. Like, an actual book that we can just own. Similarly to Journal 3 or Marcy's Journal? (Wow, Disney TVA shows really like journals, huh?)
Again, might be delusional, BUT does the possibility exist?

[late teen Luz and Marcy are sharing a booth at a local con. A customer is looking over Luz’s art]
Customer: So how much for the pins?
Luz: Those are 3 for a Snail.
Customer: um, “Snail”?
Luz: Sorry, I mean 3 for a dollar.
[The customer picks pins, pays and leaves. Luz groans as she covers her face in embarrassment]
Marcy: “Snails”?
Luz: It’s the main currency on the Boiling Isles. Their coins, not actual snails by the way…then again I’m not sure if they weren’t at some point. Still, it’s so embarrassing that I forgot the word “dollar”.
Marcy: It’s not that bad. My girls and I still say “Frog”.
Luz: “Frog”?
Marcy: Yeah, I didn’t get a chance to do that in-depth research but I can only imagine that the Amphibians on Amphibia worship a frog-like deity and so instead of how we say “God”, they say “Frog”. So we would say things like: “Oh my Frog”, “Frog-dammit” and “I swear to Frog”.
Luz: That is the cutest thing ever (don’t tell Amity I said that).
Marcy: Although considering that we went to a catholic school you’d think that we would know better than to take the lord’s name in vain.
