Tumblr media
A town populated by sailors and anglers, Bastia was established in 1378 by the Genoese lead representative Leonello Lomellini. Anchor your yacht in the marina and stroll along one of the numerous potential agendas of Bastia, in the North of Corsica.
You could walk around the verifiable focus as far as possible along the border of the tight promontory of Cap Corse, visiting beautiful towns like Pietranera and Erbalunga, or on the other hand, in the event that you honestly love journeying climb on Mount Stello and partake in the magnificent vista from the top.
While yachting in the north of Corsica, visit the little Roman town of Centuri renowned for lobster fishing. Cap Corse is a suggestive land including little towns ignoring the ocean, harbors, a horizon specked with Genoese pinnacles and beautiful streets wandering aimlessly through old villages.
Bastia flaunts an Ethnographic Museum and a Museum of the Sea. Holy person Nicolas Square, which owes its name to an old, presently obliterated, church, is home to the sculpture of Napoleon and to an intriguing number of widespread developments including the noteworthy firecrackers of 14 July.
Prior to withdrawing from Bastia go through a day at Plage de Loto, one of its top sea shores. This beguiling site that flaunts additional fine sand and straightforward waters is situated toward the finish of a few stroll along Sentiero dei Doganieri. Being outside of what might be expected, it offers a very objective away from the more packed spots of Northern Corsica.
What to eat at nightfall, when the ocean assumes the warm tint of the sun? We suggest having a glass of the commonplace Cap Corse aperitif at the verifiable shop established by Luigi Napoleone Mattei, the one who developed the beverage over a long time back.

Flaunting old back streets, verifiable structures, and normal bistros, this site worked during the Genoese control, is the image of the town. Track down our proposals for an excursion to Calvi's best spots in our article with a schedule of Western Corsica.
In the wake of visiting the town jump back on your sanction and sail further north, towards La Balagne. The plantations, fig trees and beguiling vistas of blue ocean and sky of this piece of coast, one of the most famous ones of the island, procured it the name of "Corsica's nursery".
Find the well known and pressed Napoleon ocean side in the marine area of L'ile de Rousse. Other top attractions are Bodri and Ghjunchitu. The two sea shores gloat a practically tropical air, white sand, and completely clear waters, while their isolated position makes them ideal disconnected objections in the high season.
Wild vegetation and marvelous scenes are Corsica's particular look… however presently it is the right time to head out toward the south on our agenda of the south of Corsica.

Undecided from which Greek island to sail next summer? Choose Milos and discover the Cyclades archipelago by a boat!
Due to its volcanic origin, Milos is considered a rarity among the Cyclades islands. Its coasts made of rocks where splendid beaches and cliffs overlook the sea, combined with Greek typicality, its history, and traditional white houses, make it an island sought after by thousands of tourists every year.
The island navigation is also particularly convenient thanks to the protection provided by its gulf, a huge natural harbor that provides shelter and therefore welcomes a large number of boats all year round.
CONTACT US FOR YOUR CHARTER FROM MILOS
Where is Milos located?
Milos is an island of Greece and is located in the Aegean Sea. It is in fact part of the famous Cyclades archipelago, composed, among the numerous islands, also by the famous Santorini and Mykonos.
In particular, Milos is the inhabited island of the Cyclades located further west, symbolically placed halfway along the sea line that separates Athens (Greek capital) from Heraklion on the island of Crete.
How to reach our destination?
It is not possible to reach Milos by direct flight as the island has only a small domestic airport. To arrive on the island by air, it is, therefore, necessary to make a stopover in Athens and then take a direct flight.
A valid alternative to the local flight is the numerous ferries that connect Milos daily with Athens or with Santorini, which also has an international airport.
SEND NOW YOUR ENQUIRY FOR CHARTERING MY BLU SKY, BASED IN MILOS
What is Milos’s main marina?
The main tourist port of Milos, also the destination of the many ferries that arrive on the island every day, is that of Adamas.
The marina of this small town is located in the shelter of the Gulf of Milos, a natural inlet embraced for three quarters by the coasts of the island and therefore, an ideal place to sail.
The Adama’s marina offers 50 berths up to 50 meters long and a maximum draft of 5 meters.
Here are available various services such as water supply, ATM and car rental. The marina also offers a bar and a restaurant but our advice is to taste the typical Greek cuisine in one of Adama’s restaurants.
What attractions to see in Milos?
The most important village on the island is Plaka, characterized by classic narrow streets with whitewashed houses and colored doors and windows. It extends on the sides of the hill overlooking Milos and on the top of which stands the wonderful Venetian castle of Plaka, a must to enjoy a breathtaking landscape.
Among the archaeological finds of Milos, its catacombs stand out. Built around the first century AD and rediscovered in the 19th century, they were used as Christian cemeteries during the Roman domination. It consists of three catacombs interconnected through hundreds of narrow corridors.
On a hill not far from the catacombs stands finally the ancient Roman theater of Milos. Built and used by the Romans, it still resists although the signs of the passage of time are clearly visible on it. Even today it is used by the inhabitants to host various cultural events.
VIEW ALL THE BOATS BASED IN THE CYCLADES ISLANDS
What are the beaches not to be missed in Milos?
Their volcanic characteristic makes Milos beaches particularly unique, thanks to the extraordinary colors and interesting rock formations that surround the coasts.
Sarakiniko beach is probably the most famous and photographed on the island. Don’t expect to find classic sand or pebbles here. It is in fact a very suggestive almost lunar landscape made of long horizontal rocks that stretch towards the sea.
Tsigrado bay, southeast of Plaka, hides a small sandy beach surrounded by huge cliffs and bathed by enchanting waters.
A short distance from Tsigrado is Firiplaka, a small and long beach with soft sand, also surrounded by huge rocks.
What could be an itinerary to discover the Cyclades?
Your Boat Holiday organizes for its customer’s different types of charter boat itineraries in Greece and in the Cyclades islands. For example, here is one of the possible 14-day routes:
Day 1: Arrival in Milos and acquaintance with the crew;
Day 2 – 3: We set sail! Let’s circumnavigate the beautiful Milos island;
Day 4 – 5: from Milos to Santorini island;

25 best resorts in Croatia
New Post has been published on https://tripsterguru.com/25-best-resorts-in-croatia/
25 best resorts in Croatia
Tumblr media
More than 1,000 islands and nearly 6,000 kilometers of coastline characterize Croatia, located in the heart of Europe. Mountain ranges descending to the water’s edge, beaches washed by the crystal clear sea, national parks, healing thermal springs and rich cultural heritage make the sunny country on the Adriatic a favorite destination for travelers. Whether you dream of turquoise gentle waves, whether you want to explore famous sights, many of which are under the protection of UNESCO, or are looking forward to meeting with snow-capped mountain peaks – the best resorts in Croatia are able to fulfill the dreams of any tourist.
Dubrovnik
Tumblr media
The unique city, as if woven from the rays of the sun and ancient stones, is the pearl of the Adriatic. Dubrovnik, whose history began 14 centuries ago, still retains the medieval charm of cobbled streets, magnificent palaces and churches. The view of the turquoise expanse of the sea, the fortified walls crowned with 16 towers, and the red roofs of old houses will always be remembered and makes you come back here again and again.
Greeks, Romans, Venetians … Many peoples left their mark in Dubrovnik reflected in famous sights. Nature boasts national parks, waterfalls, snow-capped mountain peaks and dense forests where bears, wolves and lynxes live. The coast attracts with crystal clear water, Blue Flag beaches and a variety of hotels: from five-star complexes to budget apartments.
Split
Tumblr media
The unofficial capital of Croatia is located on a picturesque peninsula in the heart of Dalmatia. From the sea side, Split is adjacent to the islands of Brac, Solta and Dugi-Otok, the mainland is surrounded by green slopes of the mountain range. The city, whose origins date back to the III century, today attracts tourists with its bright turquoise sea, pebble and sand beaches, hotels of various comforts, cultural events and a rich nightlife.
The main attraction of the resort is the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, built in 305. It would be more correct to call the grandiose building a complex that encloses the entire historical center of the city. It includes fortress walls, ancient temples and ancient buildings. In addition to historical monuments, Split is famous for museums, theaters, summer scenes and art galleries.
Porec
Tumblr media
The appearance of Porec is impressive – the city is located on an elongated cape overlooking the open sea. This small resort in northwestern Istria is proud of its two thousand year history and monuments of ancient architecture. Before the eyes of travelers, long-gone centuries come to life, reflected in the Ephrasian Basilica of the 4th century, the Roman Pentagonal Tower, which celebrated its 600th anniversary, and Marafor Square with columns preserved from pagan temples.
In summer, dance lovers flock here until morning – the largest night club in Croatia, Byblos attracts DJs from all over the world to Porec. Those who come to the resort for a relaxing holiday by the sea will also not be disappointed. For the cleanliness and excellent quality of water, most pebble beaches are awarded the Blue Flag. The best on the coast are Brulo, surrounded by vegetation, the ravishing Green Lagoon and the rocky Doni Shpadichi.
Umag
Tumblr media
The westernmost point of the country – located in Istria Umag – offers travelers a successful symbiosis of beach holidays and an interesting excursion program. Back in the days of the Roman Empire, a port city existed in the harbor of the Adriatic Sea, which later belonged to Byzantium, Italy, Austria and Yugoslavia. As a result, the multinational population and historical monuments representing different eras. The proximity to Venice (50 miles) provides an opportunity to make a day trip to the canal city.
The 45 km long rocky coast of Umag cannot boast of comfortable beaches, the vast majority of which are covered with concrete platforms. However, this does not interfere with exploring the wonderful world of Neptune or dissecting the expanse of water on a shortboard. With the sunset, life at the resort continues. The promenade and the old city invite you to take a romantic walk, and discos offer you to immerse yourself in an atmosphere of fun and carefree.
Makarska
Tumblr media
In the central part of the country, south of Split, Makarska is waiting for guests. Placed in the arms of majestic mountains and the emerald sea, the city captivates with an atmosphere of comfort and harmony. Those who decided to spend a vacation in this resort will be rewarded with the fragrant air of pine forests, developed infrastructure, familiarity with the historic buildings of the city center and the opportunity to visit the nearby islands.
The coast of the resort is divided into two parts by Cape St. Peter. The east side is used as a city port and marina. Fans of the sea and the sun have chosen the western bay. Along the coastline is a promenade full of shops, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. For children, there are playgrounds and an area with attractions. The promenade borders well-maintained beaches covered with small pebbles. The water here is warmer than in North Dalmatia, and the swimming season lasts until October.
Baska Voda
Tumblr media
Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and the impressive mountains of Baska Voda, it is located about 50 km south of Split and is part of the Makarska Riviera. The former fishing village, which was first mentioned in the XVIII century, has preserved archaeological sites of the time for posterity, at the same time turning into a popular resort, which includes tennis courts, diving centers, bars and discos.
White pebble beaches await bathers. The most popular and comfortable of them is the city of Nikolina, over which the Blue Flag flutters. In the evenings, life is concentrated here on the palm-fringed Riva embankment. Restaurants and taverns overlooking the sea offer to enjoy a glass of excellent wine and taste the local culinary delights: grilled fish, seafood and Burek meat pie.
Tucepi
Tumblr media
The second famous resort of Makarska Riviera – Tucepi is an ideal place for a family vacation. The Biokovo mountain range approaching the sea, covering the coast from strong winds, and lush pine forests form a mild climate, creating excellent conditions for a beach holiday from early June to late September. On a pebble-strewn 4-kilometer coast, few hotels are concentrated, but almost all of them have professional children’s animation.
Tucepi will also love active tourists – SKATINA Sports Center is equipped with tennis courts, a football field, badminton, handball and basketball courts. Bicycle, catamaran and diving equipment rental is available. Fans of nightlife will be bored here – the resort has no discos and noisy events.
Rovinj
Tumblr media
Walking through the labyrinths of white-tiled streets of Rovinj, you can forget for a moment that you are in Croatia – the romantic old town looks like a fabulous Venice. The pearl of Italy is also reminded of houses descending to the very edge of the water, and the 62-meter bell tower of the Church of St. Euthymius, surprisingly similar to Campanila of St. Mark’s Cathedral. Around the sights, life is in full swing: souvenir shops are selling, fashionable restaurants and traditional taverns are inviting customers, the old Trevisol Street is teeming with tourists.
The coastline of the resort extends for 67 km. Here you can find areas with small pebbles, and picturesque secluded bays, perfect for families with children. The best beaches of Rovinj are the city of Monte, the small-pebbled gentle Lone and equipped with Kuvi sports fields.
Pula
Tumblr media
The Istrian peninsula is one of the most popular holiday regions in Croatia, not only because of the famous beaches. Here is Pula – the oldest port city, combining historical monuments from the time of the Roman Empire, modern hotels, nightclubs, diving centers and picturesque sea bays. The coast here is mainly covered with concrete platforms or covered with pebbles. Therefore, going to the resort, do not forget to put special swimming shoes in a suitcase. If you come to the country with children, then choose hotels located near the sandy beach of Biyets.
Travelers value the city for the sixth largest Roman amphitheater, also known as Pula Arena. The grandiose building was erected in the 1st century BC. e. Over a centuries-old history, it has witnessed gladiatorial battles, and wars, and city fairs. Today, during the summer months, concerts and colorful shows are organized outside the 29.4-meter-high exterior walls.
Medulin
Tumblr media
If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle and want to spend your vacation exclusively on the beach, then welcome to Medulin, located on the southern tip of Istria, 10 km southeast of Pula. The resort is surrounded by dozens of small islands, chosen by lovers of sunbathing naked. There are all conditions for a carefree vacation. Great beaches, deserted bays and a turquoise calm sea await you.

It will be boring here for active travelers. Medulin has diving centers, tennis courts, a golf club and a riding school. Evenings can be spent on the city promenade, which attracts bars and traditional taverns.
Opatija
Tumblr media
The atmosphere of luxury and carefree life reigns in Opatija – a small town in the northern part of Istria. The modern resort combines a well-developed tourist infrastructure and historical charm. Originating 500 years ago, Opatija was a favorite vacation spot of the Venetian nobility and the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was here that in 1886 the first elite yacht club appeared on the Adriatic. Due to the many attractions and the availability of luxury hotels today, the famous resort is called “Croatian Nice.”
The coastline of the city is divided into several well-equipped beaches, many of which are marked with the “Blue Flag”. Here you will find trampoline parks, playgrounds, sports areas, cafes and summer scenes. The promenade stretching for several kilometers is an ideal place where you can enjoy sea views and try the delicacies of national cuisine in numerous restaurants.
Cavtat
Tumblr media
About 20 km south of Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful places in South Dalmatia. Due to its proximity to the airport (5 km), Cavtat is one of the most popular resorts in Croatia. Its history goes back over 2 thousand years. The city experienced many historical events that were reflected in unique architectural monuments representing the styles of Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic and Classicism. The most famous of them are the Church of St. Nicholas of the 15th century, the Princely Palace, a stone staircase leading to the hill and the mausoleum of the Racic family.
Cavtat cannot boast of having entertainment centers and night clubs. People come here for a relaxing holiday. The tiny resort is rich in picturesque parks, cozy harbors, suitable for fishing or scuba diving and, of course, magnificent beaches. At the disposal of tourists there is a well-equipped city Underground Gose, surrounded by pine trees, pebble Punta Rata and two-kilometer Vela Plaza.
Sibenik
Tumblr media
The charming old center with cultural and historical sights, narrow streets, shops, cafes and a spectacular promenade make Sibenik a worthy place to relax on the Adriatic coast. For the first time, the resort of North Dalmatia was mentioned in documents of 1066, which gives the right to call it the oldest city in the country. Built as the residence of the king of Croatia, for centuries Šibenik belonged to Venice, Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia.
During military conflicts in Turkey, it served as the pillar of Christian civilization, as evidenced by the fortress that has survived to this day. Those who come to Sibenik for the turquoise water area should pay attention to the small-pebble beach Banj, suitable for families with children, and one of the best sandy beaches in the country – the 4-km Solaris.
Lovran
Tumblr media
Lovran is one of the first settlements in the north of Istria, already in the early Middle Ages serving as an important shipbuilding center. The city turned into an attractive resort at about the same time as Opatija, located 6 km away. Since the mid-19th century, tourism has been a major industry in the local economy. The mansions, formerly owned by Austro-Hungarian aristocrats, now offer guests of Croatia comfortable rooms with excellent service.
Lovran is attractive to travelers all year round. In summer, tourists expect clean beaches, framed by lush subtropical vegetation. With the onset of autumn, the time comes for theme festivals, and in the winter a sailing regatta and a traditional carnival will take place. An important direction of the resort is a wellness vacation. The Wellness Medical Spa Center complex offers thalassotherapy sessions, massages and therapeutic mud treatments.
Rab Island
Tumblr media
Shrouded in legends, Rab, caressed by the sun for 2,499 hours a year, is located in the northern part of the country, in Kvarner Bay. You can get here by ferry leaving the port of Yablunytsya. New arrivals on the island it seems that it consists entirely of bare rocks. But it is worth getting to know this land better, as it opens its guests to dense vegetation, fertile fields and blue lagoons.
The island is small – an area of 93.6 km2 can be bypassed in one day. During this trip, you will get acquainted with the capital of the island – the city of Rab, famous for its medieval monasteries and churches, small villages, and, of course, a picturesque coastline. The island offers beaches for every taste, but the most popular is the sandy Rajska plaža, loved by both families with children and active tourists who are fond of water sports.
Brioni Island
Tumblr media
The Brioni Archipelago, comprising 14 small islands, extends along the southwestern coast of Istria. These places are familiar to mankind since the Bronze Age. For centuries, the lands washed by the Adriatic Sea were owned by the Celts, Romans and Byzantines. The powerful of this world have always appreciated the mild climate and colorful landscapes. Brioni was the favorite resort of the Emperor of Germany, William II, and the party leader of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, built here a summer residence immersed in luxury.
Modern Brioni is famous for its National Park. A visit here can be compared to an exciting journey through the jungle. Conveniently located in the wagons of a tourist train, you will get acquainted with the inhabitants of the reserve (elephants, antelopes, zebras, llamas), study the ancient exhibits of the archaeological museum and swim on a wild beach.
Island of Ciovo
Tumblr media
A quiet oasis in the Adriatic Sea, remote from the noisy Split for 30 km, was chosen by families who came to rest in Croatia with children. Beaches with snow-white smooth pebbles washed by warm transparent waves are perfect for kids’ games. Locals advise coming to the resort from July to September – at this time you can safely step on the seabed without fear of prickly hedgehogs.
It’s a pleasure to spend free time from swimming and sunbathing while exploring local sights: the Monastery of the Holy Cross built in the 15th century and the monastery of St. Mary. If this does not seem enough, then go on an excursion to nearby Split, Dubrovnik or Zadar. Tired of masterpieces of architecture? Then you will find the underwater world of the Adriatic Sea, which will be studied by the trainers of a modern diving center.
Brac Island
Tumblr media
Green hills and impregnable cliffs, cozy villages and the ruins of ancient buildings offers tourists Brac – the third largest island in the country. In Croatia, there is no better known beach than Zlatni Rat – similar to the giant tongue of the cape, covered with sand and tiny pebbles. All the possibilities for a varied vacation are created here – a paradise offers you to ride a jet ski, paraglide, explore the inhabitants of the sea day and master windsurfing.
If you are tired of relaxing on the beach, then visit the Blaz Monastery carved in the rock, the Annunciation Church, the mysterious Dragon Cave, the 16th century Kerinich Castle and the ruins of St. Vida Church, located at an altitude of 778 m above sea level. And you can pass the evening in one of the many restaurants. A dinner consisting of regional dishes is complemented by local wines, national music and the vibrant atmosphere of one of Croatia’s best resorts.
Island Krk
Tumblr media
The largest island of the country, the images of which most often appear on advertising tourist photographs, offers its guests the opportunity for both beach and sightseeing vacations. On its territory are concentrated medieval cathedrals, ancient walls and mysterious caves decorated with stalactites. The coastline of the island of Krk is ideal for travelers with children – sand and pebbles will not hurt their feet, and a gentle slope is safe even for the smallest swimmers.
The treasure of the island is a national park blinding with its variety of landscapes, which is not inferior in beauty to the legendary Plitvice Lakes. On an area of 109 km2, covered with green hills, dangerous gorges and dense forests, about 850 representatives of the fauna live. Here you will find the ruins of the Roman Forum, as well as the Orthodox and Franciscan monasteries of the XIV century. A find for photographers will be waterfalls. The largest of them – Skradinsky beech – brings down its waters from a height of 46 m.
Hvar Island
Tumblr media
According to Forbes magazine, Hvar, located in the southern Adriatic, is recognized as one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. But this is not the only reason that annually attracts thousands of tourists to the island, in whose ranks Beyoncé and Tom Cruise were noticed. What attracts travelers to the picturesque coast, caressed by the sun for 2 720 hours a year? Ancient history that began in the III millennium BC. e., left contemporaries many architectural monuments. The nature of the island also charms.
The fields of the eastern part in June are colored purple and fill the surroundings with the heady aroma of lavender. Local beaches are also beautiful – the coastline washed by turquoise waves is suitable for lovers of a relaxing holiday (Dubovitsa beaches), divers (Amphora) and active youth (Hula Hula). In the evenings, Hvar attracts with its fish restaurants, chic clubs and bars. And the most romantic sunset can be seen in the picturesque fortress of the 15th century, from where a breathtaking panorama of the sunny island of Croatia opens.
Losinj Island
Tumblr media
If you ask one of the 8,000 inhabitants of Lošinj what their island is famous for, then they will probably answer: “The pristine nature”. People come here to take a break from bustling cities, enjoy the beauty of pine forests, rocky bays, as well as gain physical and mental strength in health centers practicing aromatherapy. The local coast is rich in quiet bays, and a colony of dolphins lives in the water area, whose members can be greeted while walking on a yacht.
Planning along the streets of one of the cities of the island – Veli – you will feel the atmosphere of Italy. Ancient basilicas, Renaissance buildings and pastel-colored houses for a while turn the life of tourists into the coveted Dolce Vita. The second settlement of Mali is proud of a unique relic – an antique bronze statue of an athlete, raised from the seabed in 1996.
Kolocep Island
Tumblr media
If you are tired of the ongoing noise of megacities and car exhaust, then pay attention to Kolocep – an island located 5 km from the popular Dubrovnik. On an area of 2.4 km2, 160 residents live, whose houses are located in two small villages. Cars do not drive here, local transport is represented by electric cars, bicycles and donkeys. Century pines, fragrant oleanders, crystal clear sea and coral reefs dominate on Kolochep.
The sights of the island are early Christian temples erected in the period from the 19th to the 11th centuries, the Blue Cave and the Botanical Garden. Tourists arriving at the resort are waiting for the only hotel – the three-star Villas Kolocep hotel located on a sandy beach. You can only get to it by boat leaving the port of Dubrovnik.
Korcula Island
Tumblr media
The lush vegetation and centuries-old pine trees exuding a breathtaking aroma frame the picturesque coast of the island of Korcula, located in southern Croatia. The resort is known for the Kalos Rehabilitation Institute, which offers mud-based wellness treatments. No less famous is Lumbarda – a picturesque fishing village, in the vicinity of which sandy beaches rare for Croatia are located.
According to legend, the ancient city of Korcula was founded in the XI century by the warrior Antenor expelled from Troy.
The modern resort is rich in attractions that have come down to us since the Middle Ages. The tourists are always interested in the powerful fortress walls of the VIII century, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Gothic Cathedral of St. Mark. The island is rightfully proud of its famous son – the traveler Marco Polo. Here a museum is dedicated to him, opened in the father’s house of the legendary Venetian merchant.
Mljet Island
Tumblr media
An island in southern Croatia, whose coast is only 48 km long, is one of the most popular tourist destinations. On a small plot of land, you will find traces of ancient structures (the ruins of a Roman palace of the II century and a basilica built in the V century), and idyllic sandy beaches, and unsurpassed cuisine, and sunken ships, and a rich underwater world, attracting diving fans here.
The main attraction of the island is the National Park, hiding in its heart two huge salt lakes, narrow channels connected to the sea. On one of them you will find an island on which a 12th century Benedictine monastery crowned with a defensive tower rises. Today, a restaurant is open on the territory of the former monastery, serving its guests grilled meat and fish dishes.
Vrsar
Tumblr media
The medieval Vrsar, washed by the waves of the Gulf of Liman, was created for leisurely relaxation and contemplation of natural beauties. The picturesque coastline, lovely bays and lush vegetation invariably captivate guests of the city. In the middle of the XVIII century the legendary heartthrob Giacomo Casanova fell in love with this place, whose house today is a famous attraction of the resort. In addition, in July there is a festival named after the great ladies man – a holiday dedicated to eroticism and love.
Vrsar’s beaches, covered with pebbles or concrete platforms, are equipped with the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay and playgrounds, making the hearts of young travelers beat faster. Coastal reefs and sunken ships attract divers here. On one of the 18 islands spreading off the coast of the archipelago, the largest European hotel complex, Koversada, is famous for its secluded nudist beach.
Resorts with sandy beaches
Tumblr media
The Adriatic coast is recognized year after year as one of the cleanest in Europe. And contrary to prejudice that the local coast is covered only with concrete slabs and large pebbles, several resorts in the country are ready to offer their guests beaches covered with soft golden sand. The island of Brac is known to travelers not only as the most picturesque place in the country. In its southern part is the pearl of Croatia – strewn with sand and the smallest pebbles Zlatni Rat spit, resembling a 634-meter wedge that cuts through the azure waters. The coastal zone is unique – its shape changes depending on the direction and strength of the wind, so it seems that the beach is made of liquid gold.
Generous on the sandy coast and the island of Rab. The best beaches are stretched here near the village of Lopar. The most famous of them is Rajska plaža – a 1.5-kilometer strip, offering many picturesque bays and a gentle entrance to the sea. Sandy areas also hide among the usual pebble shores of Central and Southern Dalmatia. Those who like to go into the water without fear of being hurt by sharp stones will find it suitable for an active holiday in Bacvice in Split, surrounded by the pine forests of Uva in Dubrovnik and Punta Rata in the resort of Makarska.
What to choose for a holiday with children
Tumblr media
The mild climate, a short flight, the gentle sea and the amusement parks that turn vacation into a real adventure make Croatia an ideal country for families with children. Parents traveling with babies should pay attention to the islands of Krk and Rab. Here are quiet bays and the best sandy beaches of Croatia. The resorts of Split, Sibenik, Makarska and Baska Voda are also suitable for families with children. These sections of the coast are equipped with playgrounds, and giant pine trees provide natural protection from the sun.
Families with teenage children will enjoy resorts combining beach vacations, an extensive excursion program and the opportunity for active games and sports. One of the best resorts for the younger generation is Dubrovnik with its picturesque coastline, ancient buildings, an old port and a spacious aquarium located within the walls of the fortress of St. John. If your child is interested in history, then visit the medieval Porec, where you can combine sea vacations with fascinating walks around the city, carefully preserving the architectural masterpieces erected during the Byzantine and Roman Empire.
Istria, located in the north of the country, will also be interested in teenagers, offering young explorers to visit the Dinosaur Park and find themselves in the amazing cave of Baredina. You can relax from the exciting walk through the world of prehistoric dinosaurs and explore the mysterious dungeon on the beaches of the resort of Medulin. Pine groves give a shadow that reliably protects from scorching sunlight, and a stretch of the beach stretched for several kilometers, strewn with fine pebbles and sand, invites you to soak up in sun loungers and go windsurfing or diving.
Ski resorts
Tumblr media
Croatia, which many associate with the bright summer sun and warm sea, is ready to offer excellent conditions for winter holidays. A few kilometers from the Adriatic coast in December begins the season, which lovers are eagerly awaiting to storm the snow-capped mountain peaks. Ski resorts in the country are attractive for their low prices, professionally equipped pistes, picturesque landscapes and a friendly atmosphere.
Slame is the most famous place among slalomists in Croatia, located on the mountain of the same name with a height of 1,033 m. The 4 tracks laid here with a total length of 4,150 m are suitable for both those who take their first steps on the track and for professionals. The resort has hotels, cafes, equipment rental, chairlifts and ski tows. Belolasitsa is not only a popular resort, but also an Olympic center. For the attention of those who are familiar with skiing firsthand, 2 red (1 200 and 1 700 m) and black (1,540 m) tracks are offered. Children and beginners are not forgotten – short and gentle descents are prepared for them. Evenings in Belolasice can be spent at the restaurant or bar.
Tumblr media
Platak, known in summer as a leisure park, is transformed in the winter into an actively developing ski resort. Here you can take advantage of seven tracks, one of which is illuminated at night. For lovers of racing from the side of the mountain on a sleigh there is a separate descent. The highlight of Plataka is the panorama of the Adriatic Sea, which opens from a height of 1,363 m.
Best time to travel
Tumblr media
The tourist season lasts in the country all year round, so everyone chooses the best time for a vacation in Croatia based on their own interests and preferences. Lovers of swimming and golden tanning visit the Adriatic resorts from May to September. The hottest month is August. Air warms up to +33 ° C, and water – up to +25 ° C, however, the sea breeze characteristic of the entire coast makes it easy to tolerate even midday heat.
With the advent of autumn, tourist life in the resorts does not freeze. The absence of sweltering heat and a comfortable temperature (from +15 to +20 ° C) create excellent conditions for a therapeutic holiday in Croatia. The healing air of pine forests, the abundance of wellness centers, mud and thermal springs are located to it. In the heart of the country, not far from Zagreb, is the city of Ivanich Grad, famous for the naphthalan deposit – a thick liquid that has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and stimulating effects and is used to combat skin problems, diseases of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system.
From December to March, guests of Croatia are skiing fans. At an altitude of 1,000–1,700 m above sea level, the air temperature drops to -10 ° C. A stable cover is provided by artificial snow generators.

Filming in New York: In, On and Under the Water
More film productions are shooting on the water in New York State, and for good reason—there’s lots of it: more than 7,600 freshwater lakes, ponds and reservoirs; 1,600 miles of Long Island coastline; and 315 miles of Hudson River shoreline. And there’s more, including the Erie Canal, two Great Lakes, 2,000 waterfalls and cascades in pristine natural settings Upstate. New York’s plentiful water locations, plus the state’s deep pool of talent, production resources and film tax credits have all contributed to a rise in seaside (riverside and lakeside) shoots.
Tumblr media
“Filming on the water, like filming in general, has grown so much in New York over the past several years,” says Chris Barnes, owner of The Stunt Dept. Inc. and a marine coordinator for productions that include Elementary, Pose, Blue Bloods, The Deuce, Ray Donovan and Law & Order:  SVU.  “I used to get calls for filming on, in or around the water maybe once a month. Now I get a call a week,” says Barnes, an industry veteran of more than 25 years. “That’s good not just for me and my company, but for all the other people—divers, boat captains, boat rental companies, support people—we hire to work with us on those shoots.”
For the new Starz series Hightown, about a National Fisheries Service agent on Cape Cod who gets caught up in a major drug conspiracy, New York State doubles almost entirely for the series’ Massachusetts setting. Barnes says the village docks and marinas of Westchester and Long Island can match the look of Cape Cod, and he can aim the camera out on Long Island Sound to make it look like the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. With scenes on or around the water in all eight episodes of the show, now in post-production, Barnes had to call on his extensive list of contacts for everything from securing live lobsters in bulk to renting camera barges and commercial fishing boats. “I pull together a lot of experienced captains, divers, boat owners and suppliers on these shoots,” he says. “The last shoot day on the water, I hired two local dive shop owners, two local commercial fishermen along with their boats, a dock building company and their barges, and one local marine mechanic. Filming on water brings business to a lot people who might not ordinarily think of themselves as being in the movie industry.”
Barnes described another recent shoot in Upper Manhattan involving 60 dancers doing a choreographed routine while standing waist-deep in a pool for the Warner Bros. film adaptation of the hit musical In the Heights. “It wasn’t quite the Atlantic Ocean,” Barnes says. “But anytime you’re putting people in the water, you’ve got to have trained safety people on hand.”
Another on-the-water New York location is the 100-year-old yacht Ventura, a cutter rig sloop berthed in downtown Manhattan’s North Cove Marina that is mostly hired out for charters and corporate events. Owner-partner James Brooks of Sail New York says the yacht recently hosted filming of an episode of the CBS show God Friended Me and hopes to bring aboard even more film and television shoots. Ventura is also a favorite backdrop for promotional videos, photo shoots and TV broadcasts, including those for Harper’s Bazaar, Adidas, Nautica, Brooks Brothers, Macy's and ABC's Good Morning America.
The Coast Guard gets about 10 to 15 film requests a year for film shoots in New York Harbor or on commercially navigable waterways like the Hudson River, says Petty Officer First Class Ronald Sampert.  Those projects range from features like Sully (Warner Bros.), starring Tom Hanks, which to recreate American Airlines Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger’s 2009 emergency landing of plane on the Hudson River required a floating airplane set and had actors swimming in the Hudson off midtown Manhattan. The indie film Crypto involved throwing a “body” off a tugboat moored under the Walkway Over the Hudson bridge, which is a New York State park.  “We needed a permit from parks to attach lights to the bridge,” says Crypto Unit Production Manager Brian Papworth. “We had three boats on the water—the tugboat, a camera boat, and a chase boat with safety crew—so we needed a permit from the Coast Guard. Ulster County police had jurisdiction over the shoreline—bottom line it involved several different agencies, but it was all reasonable and with help from the state and local film offices, we got it done.”
Regardless of the production or scene-setting specifics, film and television producers know that New York State’s abundant watery locations, experienced crew, unmatched resources and incentives make it a great place to make waves in front of—or behind—the camera.

Highlights of the 5 glowing Greek Island chains finest visited by yacht constitution
With over 6,000 Greek islands sprinkled over the azure Aegean and Adriatic Seas, one is spoiled to decide on precisely which islands to go to and by which island chain; both the Cycladic, Saronic, Ionian, Sporadic or Dodecanese Islands. With out a yacht, one is restricted to solely the islands with airports, after which just one island, except one hires a non-public jet; because the home airways in Greece all fly from Athens to an island and again to Athens, with out business home flight service between islands. There are ferries and hydrofoils between a number of the islands; nevertheless, this isn’t a luxurious mode of journey, and in some situations could not even qualify as a average mode of journey. Finest to find and benefit from the 5 completely different island chains in Greece by non-public yacht constitution, an unsurpassed method to see, discover and benefit from the Greek Islands the best way you wish to and by yourself schedule.
Cycladic Islands
Santorini and Mykonos, islands that resonate with nearly everybody, anchor the Cycladic Island chain. Nonetheless, there are such a lot of different particular islands within the Cyclades that do not need airports, however do have beautiful harbors that any yacht can slip into. It’s the location of the islands, sitting within the heart of the Aegean Sea, and being semi-arid that influenced the event of the distinctive Cycladic structure of white cubist buildings outlined in cobalt blue, and wonderful whitewashed church buildings with cobalt blue domes. Utilizing whitewash on the skin of buildings was a necessity to replicate the brilliant summer season solar to assist hold constructing interiors cool. Clumping the buildings altogether, generally one on prime of the opposite with little strolling streets, protected the islanders from the winter winds, and the summer season Meltemi Winds. Listed below are a number of of our favourite lesser recognized Cycladic Islands.
Folegandros Island solely has round 700 inhabitants and at eight miles lengthy is among the smallest of the Cycladic Islands and steeped within the traditions of yesteryear. Cruise into sleepy Karavostasi, the primary harbor, the place whitewashed homes with blue doorways lined in rambling bougainvillea line the harbor entrance, and colorfully painted fishing boats bob on the blue inexperienced harbor water. Up within the cliffsides, constructed right into a medieval fort is the primary city of Chora, constructed to be hidden away from marauding pirates within the 1500’s. The three little most important squares surrounded by tavernas, bars and outlets kind the middle of Chora the place every single day conventional Greek island life is alive and nicely.
Iraklia Island, tucked between the a lot busier islands of Naxos and Ios, is a haven for peace and quiet, stress-free and simply having fun with Greece. Mountain climbing and swimming are the primary actions and every day life facilities across the very native tavernas. With few automobiles, touring across the island could be by donkey or mule, nevertheless, is finest by yourself two toes. Panagia, the primary village is tucked up excessive within the mountains, once more on account of pirate assaults within the 16th century. Close to Panagia, reached by an hour hike on a marked climbing path is the Cave of St. John, the most important cave within the Cycladic Islands which is stuffed with stalactites, stalagmites and columns. St. John’s icon is alleged to have been discovered within the cave by a shepherd, therefore the identify. Visiting this cave is spelunking within the tough, as the doorway to the cave could be very small requiring one to wiggle by way of, and flashlights are a should as there isn’t any inside lighting.
Saronic Islands
That is the closest island group to Athens with islands operating alongside the Peloponnesian Peninsula the place there are additionally beautiful ports. With structure of a extra Venetian and Baroque really feel, these Greek Islands replicate shades of Tuscany within the coloured stucco exterior of the buildings. Listed below are a number of of our favourite Saronic islands.
Dokos Island, sitting between Hydra and Spetses, is a good yachting vacation spot given the bays with good safety from any winds, and delightful clear very clear water. Solely round 18 folks stay on this island yr round, most of whom are sheepherders, so peace and quiet prevail except for the occasional bleating sheep. Dokos and the waters surrounding the island have been designated as an archeological park as sitting on the underside of the water alongside the sting of the island is alleged to be the oldest found shipwreck on the earth.
Angistri Island is simply off of the coast of Aegina, and really near Athens. Agistri is tiny, and it takes simply ten minutes to drive from the northern village of Megalochori to Limenaria within the far south. In between is unpopulated terrain the place wild oregano, figs and lemons develop amongst the pine forests. Agistri’s coast is rocky and stuffed with cliffs and a dense woodland that marches proper right down to the coast. There are beautiful anchorages which can be secluded which is terrific as this island is so near metropolitan Athens.
Ionian Islands
It’s on the smaller Greek Ionian Islands the place Greek conventional life nonetheless prospers. The place older girls are dressed all in black, Greek Orthodox Clergymen scurry together with robes flapping to minister to their flock as everybody on the island is Greek Orthodox faith, and kids play within the city piazzas below the watchful eyes of grandparents sitting knitting, mending, taking part in backgammon or bocce, or having fun with octopus and ouzo in entrance of the Taverna. Behind partitions, citrus and pomegranate timber flourish, whereas bougainvillea grows wildly with shiny hued flowers. Within the small harbors, colorfully painted little fishing boats bob, whereas the fishermen mend their nets on the marina. As an added bonus, the Ionian Islands are stated to have the most effective seashores in Greece. Following are two favourite Ionian Islands.
Meganisi Island was as soon as a middle of Mycenaean life, with excavations taking place in the present day on archeological websites throughout the island. Maganisi is a singular vacation spot for many who wish to chill out and mix into conventional native Greek Island life, and mingle with the locals who love and hold their traditions alive. Right here the ladies are nonetheless making handcrafted embroideries utilizing the standard Lefkada hand-stitching method.
Antipaxos Island is a tiny island simply off of Paxos Island, with just some homes and tavernas, nevertheless the island has beautiful seashores and delightful chalk-white cliff stretches of shoreline in to that are carved caves and grottos which can be fabulous to discover by the yacht’s tender. Throughout the caves and grottos, the water displays in stunning shades of blue relying on the quantity of daylight inside. Ashore there are not any roads, and the island could be very inexperienced lined with pine timber, olive groves and a big winery.
Dodecanese Islands
Located alongside the west coast of Turkey, these islands have shared a historical past with their shut neighbors on the Turkish mainland, albeit not at all times a relaxed historical past. Dodecanese, actually which means “twelve islands”, was a reputation derived from historic occasions, because the Dodecanese Islands are literally a bunch of 15 bigger plus 150 smaller Greek islets of which 26 are inhabited. When cruising the size of the Dodecanese Islands, the next two islands to not be missed.
Patmos Island is claimed to have been the house of John the Apostle whereas writing the “Ebook of Revelations”. The Monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse have now been named as UNESCO World Heritage Websites. In 1983 the island was proclaimed a Holy Island by the Greek Authorities and in the present day Patmos is an island of pilgrimage for these of assorted non secular beliefs. As soon as thought-about a Northern Cycladic Island, Patmos is among the few non-Cycladic Islands with the Cycladic whitewashed buildings with blue cobalt trim. Sprinkled across the island are stated to be not less than 364 church buildings or chapels; one for every single day of the yr.
Symi Island, for a lot of, is a favourite Greek Island, with Venetian model structure within the villages, whereas the countryside is redolent with the smells of assorted wild herbs. Want to visit French Riviera and Sardinia on the same holiday? It’s easy! Check our yacht itinerary and do your luggage!
We are about to take you aboard a beautiful catamaran chartered for the occasion. We will set sail from the Principality of Monaco, we will skirt the Côte d’Azur, stopping off in the best French locations, and then we will dive into the Tyrrhenian Sea until we reach the beautiful Sardinia, the Italian’s golden beaches region.
GET THE BEST DEALS FOR YACHTING IN SARDINIA AND SOF
If you’re looking for dreaming a little, follow us on this 14-day itinerary among exclusive locations, enchanting beaches, and a fabulous sea:
How to choose the right boat for French Riviera and Sardinia yachting itinerary?
We at Your Boat Holiday operate charters throughout the Mediterranean Sea as well as in exotic destinations such as the Caribbean Sea and Southeast Asia. Our experience has led us to know how to advise our customers on the right boat according to their needs, depending on whether they want to prefer luxury and comfort or an adventure holiday and maybe even more sporty.
In the first case, the choice falls on a yacht. There are various sizes but in general, they offer large spaces, luxurious interiors, and a wide range of entertainment such as water games, slides, and beach clubs.
Catamarans and sailboats, on the other hand, are slightly less comfortable, especially in terms of living spaces, but at the same time, they offer a more authentic seafaring experience. They are also very suitable for eco-sustainable holidays and have an eye on the environment by using the wind instead of engines.
Whatever your choice, what to do if you are not an expert skipper? Not being familiar with how to steer a ship is actually not a big problem. All rental boats offer the possibility (and sometimes the obligation) to have qualified onboard personnel who take care of everything related to the management of the ship: from navigation to cooking and cleaning.
Relying on their skills means spending a relaxing and safe holiday.
What is the best time for such a trip?
The summer season is certainly the ideal one to plan to navigate the Mediterranean Sea. In particular, the Tyrrhenian Sea offers its best between May and September, when the days are longer, warmer, and sunny and the sea temperature is very pleasant.
What will our yacht itinerary between French Riviera and Sardinia be?
Here is a brief summary of which destinations we are going to visit during our 14-day tour:
Our embarkation marina: French Riviera, Principality of Monaco;
Day 2: French Riviera, Cap d’Antibes;
French Riviera, Cannes and Lerins Islands – day 3;
French Riviera, Saint Tropez – day 4;
Sardinia, Stintino La Pelosa beach – day 5;
Sardinia, Maddalena archipelago – days 6, 7 and 8;
Sardinia, Porto Cervo – day 9;
Sardinia, Tavolara island – day 10
Sardinia, San Teodoro – day 11;
Sardinia; Cala Luna – day 12;
Sardinia, Villasimius – day 13
Sardinia, Cagliari – the last tour spot;
Everything’s ready? Make yourself comfortable, the journey begins:
Among the many places that are worth a visit on a sailing holiday on the Côte d’Azur, the most popular is certainly Monaco. A small autonomous state, or better, a small kingdom that extends for a few kilometers along the French coast.

Getting lost among the palaces and boutiques is very easy for those who visit it for the first time such as being bewitched by the splendor and luxury that inhabit this place. In the Montecarlo district, the heart of the city-state, typical examples are the casino and the renowned harbor with its luxurious docked yachts.
Antibes is a village famous for being an inspiration for the great Picasso. It houses a museum dedicated to this huge artist. Not far from there is the Cap d’Antibes promontory, dotted with small coves and crystal clear water beaches. A boat tour here is worth an entire vacation. It is a small peninsula that extends for a few kilometers towards the sea and offers remarkable landscape views. It owes its name to the very chic village of Antibes.
Cannes, famous most of all to be home to one of the most important movie festivals in Europe. It is a perfect town for boutiques and good food lovers. You can not miss a visit to the castle from which enjoying a breathtaking panoramic view of the shoreline.
The Lerins Islands, on the other hand, are a small archipelago made up by two major islands located a few kilometers off Cannes bay. The largest, Sainte-Marguerite island, houses the remains of a fort used as a prison where the famous “man with the iron mask” was imprisoned. The second, Sainte-Honorat island, is home to the Lerins abbey.
Saint Tropez, is a luxury and opulence synonym that sometimes results in ostentation. Examples are the numerous yachts docked to their quay seeming to compete with each other in size and color. This town is also famous for its clubs and nightlife as well as well-known beaches such as Bouillabaisse, Caneliers, Salins, Tahiti, and Pampelonne.
Often considered among the best beaches in the Mediterranean and even in the top ten of the most spectacular in the world, La Pelosa is one of the Sardinia symbols in the world as well as the place that made the town of Stintino famous, transformed from a fishing village to a renowned tourist resort, above all thanks to this natural masterpiece. Located in northern Sardinia, it is a must on a tour around here. It looks like a painting and a natural swimming pool made of white and very fine sand and Caribbean-colored water that just reaches visitors’ ankles for tens of meters.
The Maddalena archipelago is located on the north-northern coast of Sardinia, off the Costa Smeralda, in the stretch of sea between Sardinia and Corsica known as Bocche di Bonifacio. It consists of 7 major islands (La Maddalena, Caprera, Budelli, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Spargi, Rizzoli) and several smaller islets, bathed by a wonderful and transparent sea. One of the most evocative landscapes in the world due to its naturalistic value is under the protection of the Maddalena Archipelago National Park. Born in 1984, it extends over land and sea for hundreds of square kilometers.

The inlets create a myriad of landings, the colors of the sea are unique and the seabed is a diving paradise. Simply unmissable.
Porto Cervo is located in the north-eastern corner of Sardinia and is the realm of luxury holidays. It is an exclusive seaside village nestled among natural beauties where, during the summer, social events, parties, and sporting events follow one another attracting the international jet set. It’s easy to find yourself shopping with VIPs and celebrities here.
The marina, built in the 1980s, is today one of the largest and best equipped in the Mediterranean with about 700 berths, and home to the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, a prestigious club that organizes international sailing regattas.
Not far from Porto Cervo is Tavolara, an island that emerges from the sea like a granite colossus dotted with greenery and Mediterranean scrub. An excellent destination for climbing lovers, Tavolara is a mountain 560 meters high, four kilometers long, characterized by impervious rocks and splendid chromatic shades like the green of juniper, rosemary, and mastic, in combination with the blue and emerald green of the waters around. The island is the fulcrum, as well as the characterizing symbol of an unforgettable spectacle: the marine protected area of Tavolara-Punta Coda Cavallo.
San Teodoro is a sunny Gallura village made up of elegant villas and flowery streets overlooking the turquoise sea of the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. Here you will be spoiled for choice among its splendid beaches: La Cinta, a thin and long stretch of golden sand embraced by the blue and crystalline sea, Cala Brandinchi, a white coast and waters similar to tropical paradises renamed, not surprisingly, Tahiti or the magnificent Marina di Puntaldia with its modern marina.
One of the wonders of the Orosei Gulf and the whole Mediterranean, Cala Luna is an inlet carved into the cliffs with an 800-meter strip of fine golden sand in the center that plunges into the clear blue sea. Its bottom, shallow in the first meters, quickly becomes deep and is appreciated by snorkeling, diving, and underwater fishing enthusiasts. The cove is protected by steep cliffs overlooking the sea, 300 meters high and bolted in some points, the destination of many climbers. To the north, the cliffs are dotted with five large caves: inside, as well as enjoying the shade during the hottest hours, you will see the sea enclosed in an ampoule.
Villasimius is the pearl of southern Sardinia, a dream tourist destination, whose population multiplies in the warmer months with the arrival of thousands of tourists. Its coast is made up of a ‘crown’ of beaches, interspersed with small cliffs and the Capo Carbonara promontory. On the eastern side of Villasimius, you can discover enchanting beaches like Porto Giunco, with the Notteri pond behind it, the habitat of pink flamingos, and other rare species of birds. From the top of the promontory that dominates the beach, where an ancient Aragonese tower stands, you will witness a panorama that you will hardly forget.
Glimpses of historic districts overlooking the sea, shopping streets, and panoramic terraces, including the inimitable bastion of Santa Croce, where you can spend romantic evenings after burning sunsets. Cagliari is the main and most populous city on the island, in the center of a 430,000 inhabitants metropolitan area as well as a gateway to Sardinia and a cruise hub in the Mediterranean.

Yacht Delivery Chronicles: Running from a Blow and Black Marble Showers
Season 5 Episode 99: Finding Safe Harbor at Fort Bragg
On this weeks episode we motor through the day and night and come into Fort Bragg ahead of an approaching blow. No marinas were able to accommodate a boat our size so we found the only dock space we could in the channel and tied up. The Captain made the right call as soon the winds were blowing a gale with gusts over 40 knots.
Camille and myself went to explore the harbor village and the shoreline in the blow which made us very happy that we were on land for the event. Once we returned to the boat Camille took advantage of the black marble shower onboard MV DRAGON LADY, a feature our 30' sailboat is lacking. We edited this scene with some James Bond-esque music for your amusement :)
If this is the first Yacht Delivery Chronicles video you have seen heres a little bit of background of what this Season and miniseries is all about. This new season follows James and Camille on a delivery onboard a 74ft Power Yacht they were hired to crew on under then command of Captain Dave Stovall.
The delivery which was planned for 9 days took 16 days due to failing boat systems and rough spring weather on the coast of the Pacific Northwest.

Essex, Conn.: A Small Town Where History Lives On
Before moving into their Federal-era home in the river town of Essex, Conn., Pam and Tom Carroll demolished an addition in back and gutted the interior. The three-bedroom house, for which they paid $500,000, fronts Main Street in Essex Village and has backyard views of a cove off the Connecticut River. But it was in “sorry shape” when they bought it, said Ms. Carroll, 57, an interior designer.
The renovation took a year, and the Carrolls frequently drove up from their home in Southport to check on the project. But it wasn’t until after they moved in, in 2017, that they realized their neighbors on and around Main Street had been watching the construction with more than passing interest.
“They say they just hold their breath when any of the historic houses on Main Street change hands, because really there’s nothing on the books that makes it a historic district that says what you can and cannot do,” Ms. Carroll said.
Essex is known for its old New England Main Street, lined with homes dating to the town’s heyday as a bustling center for shipbuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries. The street ends at the town dock on the banks of the Connecticut River, which flows down from Canada, through four states, and into the Long Island Sound.
The Carrolls’ home still fits right in — they kept the original front facade intact. And they’ve quickly found community by joining the Essex Yacht Club, a short walk from Main Street.
“Essex is a really good location for boating: It’s very protected because we’re up the river a little ways from the storms,” Ms. Carroll said. “But it is so easily accessible to zip right down to Long Island Sound, and a super easy run over to Shelter Island, Sag Harbor and the Hamptons. On the river, there’s Hamburg Cove, just opposite Essex. People go in there and drop anchor, hang out and barbecue, paddleboard.”
Nancy Tela is hoping to take crewing lessons now that she owns a home in the village. A real estate broker in Manhattan, Ms. Tela grew up boating and is familiar with much of the Connecticut coastline. But she only recently began exploring Essex as a possible remote-work getaway when a “quirky” three-bedroom house with river views came on the market last winter. She dashed up to the open house.
“It was kind of perfect,” Ms. Tela said. “It just clicked.”
She closed in May for $600,000, in time to enjoy the property’s wildflower gardens in full bloom.
“The area is incredibly bucolic,” she said. “It’s got a little bit of everything. And you get so much bang for your buck.”
What You’ll Find
Covering 12 square miles, the Middlesex County town of Essex is small, with a population of less than 6,700, but encompasses three villages: Essex Village, Centerbrook and Ivoryton, each with its own ZIP code.

Essex Village grew up around the shipbuilding trade — and continues to support a cluster of marinas, yacht services and boating clubs — while the other two villages were fueled by industry along Falls River, which crosses the town from west to east.
Now primarily residential, Essex is “one of the few places where you don’t have a main city at the mouth of the river, so it stays very clean and picturesque,” said Colette Harron, a real estate agent with William Pitt Sotheby’s and a longtime Essex resident.
The town’s population skews older, with a median age of 53, compared with a statewide median of 40, according to census data.
Centerbrook is the more commercial section, with a supermarket, service stations and pizza parlors. The center of Ivoryton, once a hub for the manufacturing of ivory products, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as “a well-preserved example of a company town.”
Historic district protections for the town have been discussed in the past, but have never received broad support, said Melissa A. Josefiak, the director of the Essex Historical Society. Yet those who appreciate history often choose to live in Essex because of its historic architecture, and voluntarily “maintain their properties in keeping with the historic character of their neighborhood,” Ms. Josefiak said.

What You’ll Pay
The median single-family home price for the year ending in May was $380,000, roughly the same as the previous year, according to information provided by Ms. Harron.
About 80 single-family homes and 15 condominiums were on the market as of July 7. The least expensive single-family house was a one-bedroom ranch on 1.69 acres for $125,000; the most expensive, at $2.995 million, was a renovated four-bedroom Victorian on Foxboro Point with expansive river views.
Condominium prices ranged from $150,000 for a one-bedroom unit to $539,900 for a new two-bedroom townhouse. One of the more popular developments is Heritage Cove, on River Road, Ms. Harron said. Although it is an older complex, all of the condos and townhouses there have water views. “People buy them and redo them,” she said.
Historic homes with preserved exteriors and fully updated interiors tend to sell quickly, especially if they have water views, said Joel Lucas, an agent with Coldwell Banker.
Buyers from New York City are plentiful, particularly because “the property taxes are practically free,” Mr. Lucas said, compared to what you might pay across the Sound on Long Island.

Essex Station Luxury Rentals, which opened last year, is the only rental complex in town. The 52 one- and two-bedroom apartments there are fully leased, at rents ranging from $1,595 to $1,895 a month, with 40 names on the waiting list, said Penny Parker, an agent who works with the developer.
“It was tough to get through zoning, because Essex isn’t used to apartments,” Ms. Parker said. “But it’s been very well received.”
The Vibe
Essex Village draws tourists to its Main Street shops and restaurants, including the well-known Griswold Inn, which has a Colonial-era tap room with live music and an all-you-can-eat brunch called the Sunday Hunt Breakfast.
Other attractions include the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat in Centerbrook, operated by the Valley Railroad Co., and eagle-watching cruises that depart from the dock at the Connecticut River Museum.
In Essex, most any holiday is an excuse for a parade, including the Fourth of July, St. Patrick’s Day and Groundhog Day. Ms. Carroll recalled wrapping holiday presents at home one day in December when she heard music in the distance and opened her front door to find a fife-and-drum band marching up Main Street playing Christmas carols.
Professional theater productions can be seen year-round at the Ivoryton Playhouse, a 250-seat theater that dates to 1911. A farmers’ market is held on summer Saturdays on the adjacent Ivoryton Green.
The Schools
Essex is part of a regional school district that includes the towns of Chester and Deep River. Each town has its own elementary school and board of education, and a fourth board oversees the regional district.
There is a regional preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 at Essex Elementary School, which has about 340 students in preschool through sixth grade.
The regional John Winthrop Middle School, in Deep River, serves about 265 students in seventh and eighth grades. Students can learn how to grow and harvest vegetables in an extensive campus garden. Since 2008, the New England League of Middle Schools has recognized Winthrop as a Spotlight School for its record of “effective teaching and learning.”
Valley Regional High School, serving ninth through 12th grade, is also in Deep River.
The Commute
The Amtrak train from the neighboring town of Old Saybrook to Penn Station in Manhattan takes about two hours and 15 minutes. One-way fares start at $42.
Shore Line East trains run regularly from Old Saybrook and Westbrook to New Haven, where commuters can catch a Metro-North train to Grand Central. The ride takes two to three hours; a one-way ticket ranges from $24 to $30, depending on the time of travel and method of purchase, and a monthly pass is $573 to $589.
Driving the roughly 110 miles to Manhattan on Interstate 95 can take as long as three hours, depending on traffic.
The History
During the War of 1812, Essex shipbuilders specialized in building privateers, privately owned warships used to prey upon British merchant ships. On the night of April 7, 1814, British troops attacked Essex and destroyed 27 of the ships, causing one of the greatest financial losses of the war. The event is commemorated annually with a Burning of the Ships Day, featuring a parade and re-enactments.

The Pleasures of Newport Beach Harbor Save more with Innlinkr
The largest small craft harbor in the United States, Newport Beach Harbor in Newport Beach, California is not only picturesque, but also full of recreational boating opportunities, from taking a harbor cruise to renting a kayak. It’s even enjoyable from land, whether strolling around Balboa Island or along the bayside of the peninsula.
Newport Harbor is in the lower section of Newport Bay in Newport Beach, California. It is about 4 miles long, running parallel to the Balboa Peninsula and the ocean. The harbor is filled with everything from pedal boats to large ocean vessels. There are over 9000 boats berthed here.
Within Newport Beach Harbor there are 7 islands, mostly filled with lovely houses and flowery porches. The boater can leisurely take a self-guided tour of these homes from the water.
On the other side of PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) the Newport Back Bay and Upper Bay extend well inland.
THE ISLANDS IN NEWPORT BEACH HARBOR
The biggest island is Balboa, accessible by bridge from Jamboree Road and Pacific Coast Highway, or by car ferry from the Balboa Peninsula near the Balboa Fun Zone. This charming little beach community has a scenic walkway that encircles the island, with the picturesque homes on one side and small sandy beaches and boating slips on the waterside. Boutique shops, restaurants, and two stands famous for their balboa bars and frozen bananas (both dipped in chocolate and rolled in the topping of your choice) line Marine Avenue.
The other islands consist of Lido Island, Little Balboa Island, Linda Isle, Collins Island, Harbor Island and Bay Island.
The other major island for visitors is Lido Island. Here you’ll find Lido Marina Village, with shops, art galleries, boutiques and boardwalk cafes.
THE BALBOA FUN ZONE
This historic little area on the peninsula side of the bay offers a small Ferris wheel, carousel, arcade and even bungee jumping. The Balboa Pavilion, which used to be a Big Band showcase is a restored local landmark dating from 1905. Today it houses special events and wedding functions. Catalina boats leave from here daily (less in winter). Call 800-830-7744 or 949-673-5245.
BOATER’S INFORMATION
Whether you are renting a boat or visiting with your own yacht, the following information may be of use. The speed limit within the harbor is 5 m.p.h.. Fuel docks can be found next to both ferry landings on either side of the bay. A boating launch ramp is located at in the Back Bay.
There is a Harbor Department guest anchorage dock near the Harbor Patrol and Coast Guard Base. For marine weather updates, including surf and water reports, call 949-673-3371.
DINING AROUND THE HARBOR
For dining in Newport Beach Harbor, there are several restaurants on Lido Island. More can be found near the ferry landing on the Balboa Peninsula. Balboa Island has restaurants on Marine Ave. (which are not on the water). For waterfront restaurants with outstanding views, check out the area of Pacific Coast Highway that lines the inland…

The strains of island-infused top 40 hits floated across the bay as my husband mixed a batch of piña coladas and the sun dipped below the horizon, spinning the clouds into cotton candy. Two of our three daughters skimmed by on a paddleboard, delighting in losing their balance and splashing into the clear, blue sea. Cocktails in hand, we watched as a few stragglers motored into the peaceful anchorage, laying claim to the last remaining mooring balls.
“Do you know what this is?” I asked our oldest daughter, who had joined my husband and me on our catamaran’s flybridge. It was a question I’d asked repeatedly over the past couple of days and the girls had come to understand that the requisite answer was simply, “the life.”
“The life, Mom,” she obliged, smiling.
Yup. This was the life.

Related: The Caribbean Island That's Quietly Luring Americans Away From the 50 States
My family and I were on the second night of a weeklong boating adventure in the British Virgin Islands with the Moorings, the region’s first, and most established, charter company. By luck, the trip coincided with the April full moon and I’d finagled our itinerary to include an overnight stop in Trellis Bay, a popular live-aboard artists’ community on Beef Island near the easternmost tip of Tortola. The bay has long played host to a well-loved full moon celebration and as night fell, the beach in front of us became illuminated by the glow of floating fireballs, hand-cut steel spheres crafted by local artist Aragorn Dick-Read.
On shore, the crescent of sand along the bay was full of revelers — locals and boaters, families and couples — the spicy scent of roti in the air. Brightly costumed Moko Jumbies whirled high above the crowd, bending and swaying rhythmically while balancing on impressively tall stilts. Friends gathered around beachfront bonfires, kids scampered by in the sand, and visitors flowed in and out of Aragorn’s shop, admiring sculpture, pottery, and silk-screened t-shirts — artwork that barely escaped annihilation by the large sailboat launched onto the beach last September during Hurricane Irma’s violent wrath.
The water is the first thing you notice when coming in for a landing at Tortola’s Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport — deep indigo seas that lighten to lapis, turquoise, and finally ultramarine as they near the shore. But after that, you notice the boats, one after the other, wrecked on the beach of neighboring Trellis Bay. Tipped on their sides in an unnatural fashion, there they lie, heavy on the sand, unable to move. Hulls smashed, masts broken, sails ripped.
Related: As the Caribbean Rebuilds, Now Is an Important Time to Visit
With paint and a brush, Aragorn had transformed the boat that crashed just feet from his studio’s walls into a sort-of temporary installation piece, but he prefers the beach sans shipwreck. “There’s only so much art you can do with fiberglass and crappy aluminum,” he joked, when I asked him about the green swirls decorating the boat’s hull. “I painted on it for a while but then I tired of it. I’ve been living in hope that it will go. It’s a bit of a grim reminder, really, and I think we have enough grim reminders around here.”
Nearly six months to the day after a double-header of record setting, category five hurricanes tore through the Caribbean, vestiges of the storms — "Irmaria," as the two are now called locally — were visible everywhere. Cars sport makeshift windows fashioned from thick plastic and duct tape. Island hillsides, while beginning to robe themselves in fresh, verdant foliage, remain covered in a gnarled tangle of twisted limbs. Once-lush palm trees stick out like telephone poles, stripped of their shady fronds by the hurricanes’ savage winds.
It’s heartbreaking to imagine what people endured during the storms and the hardships they continue to deal with in the aftermath. Most lost everything they own. Still, travelers shouldn’t think twice about returning to the idyllic tropical archipelago. Power has been restored throughout the islands and clean up and recovery efforts are in full swing everywhere you look. And as BV-Islanders love to say, the water is just as blue, the sand is just as white, and the rum is just as strong — they don’t call them Painkillers for nothing.
Those infamous nutmeg-dusted cocktails aren’t the only things making a comeback. The British Virgin Islands have long been celebrated as being the sailing capital of the Caribbean and the territory’s loyal yachting community has begun returning in droves, indicated by the flotillas of gleaming white monohulls and catamarans dotting the turquoise waters when we were there this past spring.
In early April, colorful sails billowed in the islands’ famed tradewinds during the 47th-annual BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, the first international event to be held after the hurricanes. Throughout the week, guests lounged on the decks of catamarans, mooring balls at popular anchorages were full of boats, and the rum flowed liberally at everyone’s favorite beach bars. “The marine industry was without a doubt the first to make a comeback,” Judy Petz, the Regatta’s director, told Travel + Leisure. “Holding the event gave the whole community purpose. People kept signing up to race — even people who had never come down here before.”
Though a handful of hotels and guesthouses have reopened recently, the best way to visit the region sooner rather than later is on board a charter yacht. Earlier this year, the Moorings, which continues to be the islands’ biggest charter company, added 130 new boats to their fleet, an investment of $66.5 million. On top of that, the Moorings’ boat resuscitation efforts continue to move forward at full steam. A big team of fiberglass experts is hard at work getting vessels back on the water and soon the entire fleet will be at or very near pre-hurricane numbers.
Local restaurants, shops, markets, and well-loved watering holes have been revived as well and the entire industry desperately needs the support of tourist dollars to help continue rebuilding both infrastructure and their livelihood. Fortunately, island hopping through the archipelago offers an easy and gorgeous way to spread the love — and the wealth.
“It’s like coming back to the old days,” Petz said of sailing in the BVI right now. “The waters are as pristine as ever but there are far fewer boats out there. It’s almost like you have the islands to yourself. The beauty that surrounds you — that’s what it’s all about.”
Here’s our guide to what’s happening in the best-loved anchorages of the British Virgin Islands.
Gina DeCaprio Vercesi
Getting There
Several U.S. cities offer direct flights into Cyril E. King airport on neighboring St. Thomas. The Road Town Fast Ferry travels between Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and Road Town, Tortola (where the Moorings is based) three times a day — twice a day on Sundays. Since it is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, U.S. citizens don’t need a passport to fly into St. Thomas, but a valid passport is required for entry into the British Virgin Islands.
Alternately, several smaller airlines along with private charters operate flights into Tortola’s Terrance B. Lettsome (Beef Island) airport from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Where to Stay
Right now (and even after the territory’s full recovery), chartering a sailing or power yacht is the absolute best way to visit the British Virgin Islands. Your accommodations are covered, you’re positively guaranteed a 360-degree water view, and there’s no shortage of services available to boaters. Mooring balls remain plentiful in every anchorage — and fewer boats for the time being means less jockeying for space — dingy docks are solid in most bays, and provisions, which are abundant in Road Town, are becoming more readily available at smaller island outposts in Trellis Bay, Scrub Island, Leverick Bay, and Cane Garden Bay.
If terra-firma is more your style, options expand daily. Cooper Island Beach Club, an eco-resort with its own on-site nano-brewery, reopened with aplomb on April 1 and guests would be hard-pressed to find any evidence of the devastation that existed just a few months earlier. Settle into one of 10 beachy-chic cottages overlooking picturesque Manchioneel Bay, which is especially popular with sea turtles.
Although Virgin Gorda’s much-loved North Sound suffered some of the storms’ most devastating destruction, luxurious Oil Nut Bay, tucked into a pristine cove in Eustatia Sound, has both private villas and ocean view suites ready to receive guests. Meanwhile, just across the water from Trellis Bay, Scrub Island Resort and Marina has several rooms in their Marina Village available along with a newly refurbished, multi-tiered pool, and a diverse menu of watersports.

Where to Drink (and Eat)
Bars and restaurants throughout the BVI exude the ultimate in laid-back island vibes and many of the territory’s favorites are open for business. Standing at the helm of the post-hurricane recovery ship is the Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke — the infamous White Bay watering hole was one of the first in the region to reopen after the September storms, inspiring plenty of others to do the same.
In Jost’s Great Harbor, island icon Foxy Callwood’s namesake Foxy's Tamarind Bar is serving up their famous barbecue once again and the Calypsonian crooner himself will likely be there singing his now-famous post-Irma ditty.
Meanwhile, on Norman Island, Pirates Bight is in full swing, delivering cold beers and delicious roti. And though the recently announced (and quite controversial) relocation of the legendary Willy T from the Bight to Peter Island may redirect diehard loyalists across the way to the barge’s new home in Great Harbor, Norman will likely remain a popular first night stop on the charter circuit.
It will be quite some time before the Bitter End Yacht Club — which is near and dear to pretty much everyone’s hearts — rises from Virgin Gorda’s North Sound wreckage, but Leverick Bay has been doing a great job of bringing boaters to the area. The resort’s open-air restaurant on the second floor overlooks the entire bay, which twinkles after the sun sets. Kick off the evening with a cocktail of rum and laughter at Michael Beans’ popular Happy Arrr show by the shoreline.
For a bit of glamour, island style, Restaurant (yes, that’s its name) at the Cooper Island Beach Club serves a gorgeous menu featuring a bounty of local produce, fresh fish, and innovative cocktails by the sea. After dinner, spend some time sipping spirits sourced from the Caribbean and beyond in the resort’s new Rum Bar, where over 100 varieties are on hand for tasting and mixing.
On Land and Sea
Snorkeling and diving the prolific reef systems spread around the 60 islands, islets, and cays that make up the British Virgin Island archipelago remain one of visitors’ favorite activities and in early April, the majority of the popular reefs we explored were in sound shape. Beyond the best-known spots — Monkey Point on Guana Island, Norman Islands Caves, The Indians, Cistern Point on Cooper Island, The Dogs — your charter captain will be able to take you to all sorts of hidden coral gardens teeming with colorful marine life.
Beaches throughout the territory continue to inspire expat dreams, despite the absence of the lush, jungle-like setting provided by abundant palms and sea grapes. Still new trees are being planted all the time; even Sandy Spit, which has been reduced to a true spit of sand, has a tiny grove of baby coconut trees in its center. Secluded swaths of shore await, some of the most sublime, even with a bit of storm detritus, being Deadman’s Bay (Peter Island), Devil’s Bay (Virgin Gorda), Prickly Pear Island (across from Leverick Bay), and White Bay (Jost Van Dyke).
