The story of the Wittebane brothers from The Owl House reminds me of the story of the Bai brothers from Karakuri Circus both in concept and execution.

The entire plot of each series kickstarts when the older brother abandons the younger brother and everything they had pursued together for years for a foreign woman. The younger brother goes mad afterwards, creates a series of artificial beings in the image of a loved one, acquires immortality through immoral means, and becomes the main antagonist of the series. The main antagonist is a foil to the kid hero and possesses or has possessed another human being at some point.

Each series suggests a more complex and sympathetic side of the main antagonist, only to reduce his character to a crazy villain.

In the case of the Wittebane brothers, at least it was a good thing that Caleb unlearned his community's toxic values and the show is so vague on their story that it gives us no idea of what Evelyn's face looked like.

As for the Bai brothers, Karakuri Circus presents their story in a far more visible, albeit equally misleading, manner. Bai Yin nonsencially developed a contempt for his family business after finding out about Francine's tragic background and made that clear to his younger brother while withholding crucial information about his future wife, who had already been good friends with his younger brother, in a moment of callous selfishness. It was Bai Jin who remembered her love for clowns and entertainers even after his descent to madness.

I can't speak a lot about Dana Terrace as I'm only interested in the Wittebane brothers. As for Kazuhiro Fujita, this same manga creator portrayed Lucille, Angelina, and Shoji in a far more graceful manner, so it wasn't like he didn't know better as a writer.

Karakuri Circus thoughts

I just marathoned the last like 8 episodes of Karakuri Circus that I was behind on and that was a feels trip. My emotions work great now from that. So many amazing character moments and the story is getting intense. Love how all the supporting characters are getting back stories and moments. It’s just so amazing and heart-breaking at times. Ups and downs this show really is a circus, in such a good way.

Can we talk about how Karakuri Circus is sooooo freakin' good and yet nobody talks about it x,d I swear I know is just my impression but it feels like nobody is watching it DX and that's actually freakin' saddddd (´•̥̥̥ ᎔ •̥̥̥`)

I started watching out of curiosity after I saw the Masaru being bullied scene (? I thought damn I need to watch this !

I literally stay up til 6 am on Christmas day, just bc I seriously got hooked

I don't watch romance anime ? I know this is not a romance anime That's not my cup of tea, which means that I don't have much knowledge on that area- so I was kinda confused by Shirogane's and Narumi's "relationship" at the begging bc I thought it was a lil' bit too fast. However for me later even that makes sense (?

Of course I haven't read the manga, I'm actually too lazy. And yes, I have seen the complaints in the comment section of my anime page about how there's missing parts form it in the anime adaptation which is honestly not surprising at all ? However I can still understand pretty well what's about 👀

Also I have seen ppl complaining about how it's confusing and honestly I've been just watching not trying to tied everything up- However the other day I was telling my dad something about this series and when I explained everything maked sense. Even tho if u don't pay attention it seems like the story is a mess it actually makes sense ? I mean- the anime hasn't finish yet so I don't want to run my mouth, but til now that's what I see

Note aside I pretty much hate 3d animation at some extend, but I actually don't mind the scenes where some of the puppets are 3d models, I feel like it's well done OwO

Pd; Can we talk about how there's like 6 girls that look the freakin' same and I believe even have the same voice actress yet I can feel them differently DX
