Revolutionize Your Butcher Store with Meat Delivery Software
Are you a butcher store owner or involved in the meat delivery business? If so, you’re likely familiar with the challenges of attracting and retaining customers. In a competitive market, finding effective strategies is crucial, and one solution that consistently proves successful is the adoption of online meat delivery software. This robust system is gaining popularity among service providers for its ability to streamline delivery processes, expand customer bases, and boost profits. Read on to discover the ins and outs of this game-changing tool.
Tumblr media
Understanding Meat Delivery Software
Meat delivery software is a sophisticated online solution designed to showcase meat products effectively. Functioning as a virtual storefront, this software allows service providers to display their offerings, receive online orders, and facilitate deliveries through a dedicated team. Customers, on the other hand, can conveniently place meat orders from their smartphones and have them delivered to their doorstep.
The meat industry is expansive, requiring efficient handling of various aspects. Online mobile solutions, like meat delivery apps, cater to the diverse needs of both customers and service providers. Customers benefit from the convenience of doorstep delivery, while store owners can seamlessly offer a wide range of services online. The advantages of utilizing such delivery software extend beyond mere convenience and play a pivotal role in enhancing overall business operations.
How Meat Delivery Software Empowers Business Owners
Effortless Business Management: Traditionally, managing a meat business involved manual handling of tasks such as order processing, inventory management, customer records, and product updates. Meat delivery software simplifies these processes, providing an easy and efficient way to manage the entire business.
Expanding Customer Base: In the modern world, where routines vary, the ability to pre-book meat orders is a significant advantage. Unlike traditional methods that relied on offline advertising, online meat delivery software leverages powerful features to maximize customer reach. Offering promotions and discounts further helps in retaining customers over the long term.
Revenue Boost through Inventory Visibility: Avoiding customer dissatisfaction due to out-of-stock items is crucial. Online meat delivery services address this challenge by showcasing available products with prices on a digital platform. This transparency builds trust, attracting more customers and, consequently, increasing revenue.
In Conclusion
Beyond the outlined benefits, online transactions facilitated by the software provide users with multiple payment options, including credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payment gateways. As the meat business embraces meat delivery software, more entrepreneurs are connecting with these innovative solutions. If you have any queries regarding optimizing your meat business, our experts are here to assist you.

Ah, but Harrow IS coping... her strategies may be both nuclear and far from what we (from our outside perspective) might consider ideal, but she has always been solution based. She problem solves. She survives.
Harrow spent her whole life taking her anger and helplessness out on the girl who was trapped as her indentured servant, to cope. She destroyed her own brain to save her meat pumpkin's soul, to cope. She made soup that doubled as a delivery mechanism for jellied explosives, to cope. It may not be "healthy" coping, but did Harrowhark Nonagesimus, the ghastly chimera of 200 dead sons and daughters of the Ninth, ever stand a chance at being "healthy"?

“Gifts from Medical, coming through!”
Wally barely feels the way Bart whacks him with a spare pillow case, but the whiffing noise is kind of a clue that the teen wants him to slow down. Or, in all actuality, Impulse probably wants Wally to buzz off, but Wally’s got boxes and boxes of tinker toys in his arms and nowhere else to put them down, so there really isn’t an alternative but a direct route to his destination.
“Go away!” Bart complains, and whacks the back of Wally’s head with the pillow case again. Wally hopes it’s one of the clean ones. He’s seen the ones that Bart’s favorite patient has…used. “No adults allowed! Bats said so!”
That's true. Batman had said that. “Well,” Wally says, dodging his way to the curtain to Bart’s clear dismay, “Medical said it was alright, and we all have to listen to them. They also packed gifts for your bud, so…”
Bart grabs onto the back of Wally’s suit and digs his feet into the tile. “Thatdoesn’tmeanyoucanbargeinhisspace!” the kid protests, teeth gritted, as Wally drags him across the floor with nothing but a determined gait and a tiny bit of the speedforce. (Just a little.) “It makes him nervous!! And then he’ll bite you!”
Oh, yeah, the biting. Wally stops at the edge of the curtain, hands on the gross gray fabric. Hrm.
“Uh.” There’s gotta be a solution to that. He looks down at Bart’s weird mop-head hairstyle. “Will he stop if I bring gifts?”
“Nah. He’s going to eat you.”
…Great.
“Bossy,” Wally decides, even if this is, in the end, for the alien-kid’s sake. Bart squawks. “Oh well. I gotta deliver these anyway. Hey, stranger; I come bearing gifts from your medical team! Uh…hiss if you get mad, I guess?”
Wally bumps the free-flowing curtain to the side with his hips, showing off the aforementioned pile of toys in his arms before poking his head in.
The cluster of darkness on the bed, being largely a mass of black in the vague shape of a humanoid, says nothing.
Bart crawls underneath Wally’s outstretched pile of deliveries so that he can go straight up to the bitiest occupant of the Watchtower proper. The teen kneels down on the floor, put his chin on the entity’s cot mattress, and leans up on the bed up at the shadowy mass of teenager up above him. “I can tell him to go away if you want me to,” he tells the entity, who sort of…turns? Towards the speedster. “I could beat him up.”
Wally snorts. No he couldn’t.
“…I could get Superboy to beat him up,” Bart immediately amends, which, hey! Not nice!
…True, maybe, but not nice!
The shadow-kid doesn’t get up and leave, and he doesn’t start hissing or throwing things—both things Wally is pretty sure he’s capable of. And, well, Wally has a job to do, and unless the alien entity teen actually discourages him from doing it, Wally’s going to do his best to help the kid out on this one.
“Bart, if you really want to help him feel comfy when I pop this on his bed, get between him ‘n me, please.”
Impulse, thankfully, holds off on sulking. He hops onto the alien kid’s medical cot-bed, carefully tucking in a blanket beneath him as to stay…sanitary.
Wally’s got to admit. It doesn’t smell so hot in here. Maybe he ought to have let medical wrestle him into some hygienic gear instead of zipping straight down. Eh. Too late now.
Wally carefully releases the pile of presents from the kid’s medical team onto the bed— snatching one or two bouncers out of the air before they fall onto the floor.
Bart and the nameless alien kid lean in closer to inspect the colorful packages. “Oh, sweet!” Impulse exclaims, eyes wide. “Hey, look, you got new stuff!”
New stuff is right. Finance lets medical essentially decide their own budget; purchase orders of new physical therapy tools are consistently approved even with oversight. In this case, it looked like the team was more than happy to take advantage of that goodwill with a run to the local children’s educational shop.
There are boxes upon boxes of colorful children’s toys on the mattress. Bart looks like Christmas has come early. The alien kid looks—at attention? At least? His claws gently rake over the rainbow-bright cardboard boxes, turning them this way and that so that he can see.
Wally zips away and zips back with a chair for himself. The cot is gross, yes, but more importantly, Wonder Woman has made very clear in her notes that the bed is part the kid’s perceived personal space. Violating that trust with the alien-entity-kid is largely a non-option. If they want to hold themselves up to the standard that J’onn was able to impart in their brief conversation, they have to be kind, careful, and considerate of his personal space.
The Flash (the second) hops into the chair. “Want to help the kid open the stuff, Impulse? Might be hard with his. Uh. Hand claws. Claw…hands?”
They both look at the aforementioned being’s hands. The claws look like hands and sometimes they look like claws, but they mostly don’t look like anything. If Wally stops paying attention, he legitimately thinks he’s alone in the room with Bart and a stiff breeze.
“…Fingers,” Bart finally decides on. And then he beams. “Yeah! Okay. Hey, look! Let’s open this one!”
The kid-alien-thing mostly seems to respond to the brightly-colored and waving object in his vision and Bart’s cheery tone. Still, react he does. The amorphous form gets closer, tilts forward, and shimmers ever so slightly with attention as Bart begins to narrate his unboxing of colorful grip-shaped silicone toys, with little suction cups on the ends so that they can stick to things.
Bart sticks one to the kid’s side table. It takes the kid a second to observe, come to a conclusion, and then—fumblingly—claw the bright blue sucker off with his fingers until it comes free. The wobbly form of a teenage alien tries, misses, and then tries again to get the suction cup to relatch onto the table. The purr at his own success vibrates quietly through the room. It…the sensation shivers through Wally’s body.
It feels very, very weird. A little too personal. Like…the sound is embedded beneath his skin. Wally carefully scratches at himself, but the sensation of fingers on his suit doesn’t get rid of the feeling brushing against his muscle layer.
Bart doesn’t even react to the feeling, even if he can tell that Wally’s getting twitchy. “Tim thinks that most of his being is extradimensional. That’s why I can tell what he’s up to more; he zings in the speedforce.”
Wally slowly pushes himself up in his chair. “Wait, really?”
Bart doesn’t look up from his new project: unwrapping the cling wrap from dry erase lapboards. They look like they have the alphabet dotted along them in little spots of blue ink. “Mmhm.”
That’s… “Does Barry know?”
“I dunno.” Bart shrugs. He’s too busy watching his friend watch him unwrap preschool toys to give a clearer answer. “You can text him I guess. I think it’s just a theory, but he’s not biting you for being in his space right now, and he’s hissed at like everyone else who’s been here. Hey, look!! This one’s slime!”
Wally half gets up out of the seat. “Okay, okay, I think that one—“ He’s gone and back in a couple of nanoseconds, a plastic cafeteria tray clutched in his fists. “—That one needs a tray, I think. Don’t mess up the sheets with your new goo just because you’re excited.”
Impulse, teen speedster from the future, and a so-far nameless, bodiless alien teenage entity, share a vaguely textured cafeteria tray as they smush purple and yellow sensory beads around in rough circles. There are other toys that get opened, but are left largely untouched: a clock puzzle with insertable shapes serving as the numbers, and a 3D drawing pad with reusable cords on a velcro backing. The winner of the batch seems to be the colorful sensory beads in little tubs, considering that the two recipients of the stuff seem to gravitate back towards it with every new unboxing.
Of course, the favorite has to be the messy toy. Honestly, Wally should have guessed. Whatever. The plastic and wrapping trash is gone in seconds, leaving the kid’s space nice and clean, since apparently Wally is hanging around to be adult supervision. He might as well help out a bit.
And, apparently, the alien kid has something of a heart in his not-quite-present body; when Wally’s done throwing the trash out, the kid’s projectile of choice to chuck at Wally’s torso is a red block of floam putty sensory beads, matching the red of Wally’s suit.
…Wally’s going to take it as a nice gesture. The kid is purring and playing and generally disarmed, so this is probably an attempt at bonding.
The kid has a toy. Bart has a toy. Wally has a toy.
“Thanks,” he says, and unwraps the plastic on the stuff.
The alien might not have words to respond, but he purrs, and he purrs, and he purrs, and Bart hums right along with him.
And they knead putty together.

Toys for injured ghosts:
Squigz™ Master Set
Squish & Squeeze Sensory Beads
Double-Sided Early Writing Skills Lapboard
Shape Sorting Clock
Rainbow Cord & Picture Pattern Maker
Yes I used real toys and went on a fake shopping spree; I used a combo of Lakeshore and Melissa & Doug, mostly looking for stuff that either aided with fine motor skills, language acquisition, or both. They know Danny doesn't speak English and they know he has trouble with his hands, and at least one of the Medical team has to have or has young kids, and this is what they came up with collectively. Do they resent that Wonder Woman got to him first? No, definitely not. :( They did try to find toys that weren't outrageously condescending, though; no dolls, no fine motor toys meant for, like, ham-fisted babies. The fact that the toys are, like, equally interesting to Bart, is, like...unique to Bart. Maybe Kon, too. I feel like Tim gets to watch Cassie, Bart, Kon, and the alien play around determinedly with the Squigz while he's defrauding Lex Luthor from his laptop nearby lol

Winter Anime 2024 That I'm Watching
The Apothecary Diaries - continuing from last season, I love it and I am obsessed with MaoMao
7th Time Loop - This one actually surprised me with how much I love it. So far it's a fun story with beautiful art and the OPness of the main character actually makes sense. I love an OP character, especially a female OP
A Sign of Affection - THE FEELS!!! SO CUTE!! MY HEART IS MELTING!!!! I am absolutely adoring this love story
Solo Leveling - I am super intrigued by this show, I kind of feel like we are just getting to the meat of it and the whole first 4 episodes were all set up, but I am really enjoying it so far!
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - Solid isekai
Doctor Elise - This one feels a bit like it is lacking substance, especially when it is sharing a season with 7th Time Loop. But it's cute and I am enjoying it so far. The whole advanced medical instruments in a medieval setting is a bit suspect though
Cherry Magic - Cute romance with actual adults in the workforce *gasp* shocking. I love it, it's cute and I am totally shipping the main couple, KISS ALREADY
The Witch and the Beast - Loving the vibes and characters, not entirely sure what is going on yet and they definitely don't give you enough clues with the mystery so it always feels like they are pulling the solution out of their ass but I am enjoying the ride enough to overlook that flaw
Villainess Level 99 - Not really sure where the plot is going but I'm enjoying it
The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey to Pick Up Trash - MUST PROTECT! The main character is so sweet and I want to see her and her slime buddy grow up safely
Tsukimichi season 2 - The season is off to a slow start, but I enjoyed season 1 so I will give it a chance
Shows I Have Already Dropped
The Strongest Tank's Labyrinth - Why did he have to be a siscon? The show had a promising first episode and then episode 2 was all siscon and random childish looking girls fawning over him. DROP
Mr. Villain's Day Off - I may have kept watching this show in a less packed season, or a season where I had too many serious shows, but with it's slow pace and repetitive humor I decided it didn't make the cut when stacked up against shows like A Sign of Affection of Cherry Magic
The Demon Prince of Momochi House - Interesting concept, subpar delivery, DROP

Dear MagISoWo,
Hello! I really appreciate all of the good work you do for our community! My three-year-old daughter just started this year at our town's public preschool program and is the only faun in her school. She does qualify for the free school breakfast and lunch program and it's been a godsend for me as a single dad on a delivery driver's wage, you know? Anyway, you might or might not know that fauns need significantly more of certain minerals such as sodium as compared to humans. Most of us, if we're eating human-style food, add a supplemental mineral mix -- salt mixed with granular forms of the other minerals we need. Given my daughter's young age, I arranged with her teachers to have her minerals added to her food when they give it her, and as of the time she enrolled none of them indicated that this might be a problem. However, the other day she came home from school with a stomachache and mentioned that her substitute teacher had told her that she wasn't allowed to have her minerals. I went to the principal hoping to get this cleared up, and apparently this was the first he'd heard of our arrangement, and he stated that the substitute had acted correctly in his view, and that her regular classroom teachers would also no longer be allowed to serve her the food with the mineral mix now that he'd been made aware. Apparently their nutritional guidelines forbid serving food with added sodium because of the health risks for human children, and they would be at risk of losing their federal food program funding. They told me that if I want to have more control over what my daughter eats at school I'm always welcome to send packed lunches from home, but grocery money is tight as it is and it would be a financial challenge to pull her out of the free meals program. Do I have any recourse here? Are there protections for magical children in situations like this?
Thank you

Hello,
We're very sorry to hear that you ran into trouble at your child's school. The School Meals program is meant to make life easier, not more stressful and it is definitely not meant to exclude non-human students. Providing this kind of service on a national schale is relatively new, however, and a lot of schools still have some trouble with the practical implementation. We hope your principal has simply misunderstood the regulations of the program, because there is definitely room to adapt meals according to a child's personal dietary needs.
Sadly there is not one clear statement in the program's terms we can point to for an immediate solution, because different solutions are suggested for different situations. Some children require very different food than their fellow students. (Such as uncooked meat, blood, coal, raw honey, etc.) And schools cannot be expected to provide meals suitable for every single diet.
Some children, like your daughter, only need small changes to a meal. Like eliminating a certain ingredient or adding a supplement. The School Meals program encourages schools to accomodate these students by having the parent or guardian of the child to provide an explicit instruction on how their child's meal is to be changed, and to sign this document to give the school permission to do so. We will enclose the link to the government page on the School Meals program where this suggestion is explained. If you provide such a document, plus the supplements your child needs, we expect the school will comply.
However, schools do have the option to refuse adding supplements or medications to children's meals, if they deem it too difficult a procedure to carry responsiblity for. It does not sound like this applies in your case, but if they choose to go this route you can always apply for Grocery Cards instead. These are also provided by the School Meals program, and function as coupons that can be used in most super markets, bakeries and farmers markets. They are mean especially for everyone who wants to ensure their children eat well, but cannot easily make use of the meals provided at their school. We will enclose a flyer on how to apply for them, should you want to look into that option. Considering your current situation, you should already qualify.
Best of luck and please don't hesitate to come to one of our local after school activities if you could use a hand with anything else!

oh right.
if food is too much trouble.
I just.
don't eat.
which is not great.
the solution is to have ingredients for, like, three easy recipes on hand that I know take almost no time, taste good, and contain nutrients.
my current favorites are
lemon zucchini chicken pasta (make a simple sauce by melting about two tbsp of butter with equal quantities flour and letting cook until a blondish hair kinda color, then whisk in your milk and bring nearly to a boil before letting it simmer till THICC. While it's doing that, boil your pasta and brown your zucchini and chicken (not at the same time! also ground chicken is cheap and easy to use here). Once those two are done, combine them in a pan and add some garlic -- powder is fine, I usually use freeze dried. Pour your sauce over the chicken and zucchini and add a small handful of parmesan cheese, about half a lemon's worth of juice, and all a lemon's worth of zest. Stir in the pasta once it's done. )
shwarma bowl (turmeric rice, some kind of meat cooked with shwarma spice blend, tomatoes, optional cucumber, and a drizzle of thinned sour cream with garlic powder and a wedge of lemon for both flavor and garnish)
mushroom pasta (chop up a container of mushrooms of your choice, two green onions separating greens from whites, and about a fist's mass of tomato(s). Cook meat if desired in a skillet with a little oil -- ground turkey is good, chicken is also good. Set meat aside and cook the mushrooms with a little more oil in the same pan used for the meat. Once they're brown, add onion whites and two tbsp of butter, two tbsp of flour. Cook til the butter is meltered and the flour is incorporated. Add milk to cover and maybe a tbsp of cream cheese. If you have it, add about a tbsp of mushroom stock concentrate or use mushroom stock to thin the sauce -- it'll need it -- and a small handful of parmesan cheese and garlic to taste. Cook til it looks like sauce, then add your tomato and pasta and stir to combine. Truffle powder is a good addition, so use it if you got it.)
chicken pot pie is also good but it takes longer. These all, I've timed it, take about half an hour. They contain vegetables in a way I'll actually consume them, and aside from the pasta amounts (you want about 6oz for two servings, 7oz tops or it will not fit in a small-to-medium skillet!), the butter-to-flour and the rice-to-water ratios (you want 2/3 as much rice as water) nothing is very measurement-picky.
so.
my weird brain will not let me stick to any kind of routine for long, which is why I have meal box delivery stuff, but hopefully reminding myself that these are options will ensure I like. actually eat food.
which is apparently something I am kind of bad at doing, especially since I have kind of a weird schedule as part of my new job.

The Art of Building Meat: Bioprinting Techniques in Cultured Meat Market Production
Tumblr media
Introduction:
The future of food is taking shape in bioreactors and 3D printers. Cultured Meat Market, also known as clean meat or lab-grown meat, emerges as a revolutionary solution to the environmental and ethical concerns surrounding traditional meat production. This article delves into the fascinating world of bioprinting techniques, a key component in creating complex, delicious cultured meat products.

Cultured Meat: A Sustainable Disruption
Traditional meat production carries a significant environmental burden, contributing to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water pollution. Cultured meat offers a promising alternative, growing meat from animal cells in a controlled environment.
Here's a simplified breakdown of the process:
Cell Collection: A small sample of muscle stem cells is obtained from an animal through a minimally invasive procedure.
Cell Culture: These cells are multiplied in a nutrient-rich medium within bioreactors.
Differentiation and Maturation: Controlled growth factors in the medium stimulate the cells to differentiate and mature into muscle tissue.
Bioprinting: This innovative step allows for precise arrangement of the cells to create the desired structure and texture of meat.
Maturation and Processing: The bioprinted meat undergoes further maturation and processing to achieve the final product.

Bioprinting: Engineering the Future of Meat
Bioprinting takes cultured meat production to a whole new level. Here's how it works:
Digital Design: A computer-aided design (CAD) model is created to define the desired structure of the meat product, such as a steak or a burger patty.
Bioink Preparation: A biocompatible material, often containing a mixture of cells, nutrients, and scaffolding materials, is prepared for printing.
3D Printing Process: The bioink is loaded into a bioprinter, which uses computer-controlled mechanisms to deposit the bioink layer-by-layer, replicating the designed structure.
Cell Culture and Maturation: Once printed, the bioprinted cells are allowed to mature and grow within a bioreactor, mimicking the natural development of muscle tissue.
Benefits of Bioprinting for Cultured Meat
Bioprinting offers several advantages in the production of cultured meat:
Complex Structures: Bioprinting allows for the creation of complex, multi-cellular structures that mimic the texture and marbling of traditional meat cuts. This is difficult to achieve with traditional culturing techniques.
Fat Distribution: Bioprinting enables precise control over fat distribution within the meat, allowing for the creation of leaner or marbled cuts as desired.
Customization: Bioprinting paves the way for personalized meat products tailored to specific dietary needs or preferences.
Vascularization: Bioprinting can potentially be used to create vascular networks within the cultured meat, promoting cell growth and mimicking the natural delivery of nutrients and oxygen.
Types of Bioprinting Techniques for Cultured Meat
Several bioprinting techniques are being explored for cultured meat production, each with its own advantages and limitations:
Extrusion-based Bioprinting: This common technique uses a pressurized system to deposit bioink through a nozzle, creating a filamentous structure. It's suitable for high-viscosity bioinks but may have limitations in resolution.
Inkjet Bioprinting: Similar to an inkjet printer, this technique uses a jet of bioink droplets to create a patterned structure. It offers high resolution but may be limited in the types of bioinks it can handle.
Stereolithography (SLA): This light-based technique uses a laser to solidify layers of bioink resin, building the desired structure layer-by-layer. It offers high accuracy but may require specialized biomaterials.
Challenges and Opportunities in Bioprinting for Cultured Meat
While bioprinting holds immense promise, some challenges need to be addressed:
Cost Reduction: Bioprinting equipment and bioink development are currently expensive, requiring cost optimization for large-scale production.
Bioink Development: Creating bioinks that are biocompatible, support cell growth, and allow for precise printing remains an ongoing area of research.
Scalability: Scaling up bioprinting processes to meet commercial production demands requires further advancements in technology and infrastructure.
However, these challenges offer exciting opportunities for innovation:
Advancements in Biomaterial Science: Development of affordable and efficient bioinks specifically tailored for cultured meat is crucial for large-scale adoption.
Bioprinter Design and Optimization: Improvements in bioprinter design can increase printing speed, resolution, and efficiency for cost-effective production.
Collaboration Between Researchers and Industry: Collaboration can accelerate research and development efforts to overcome technical hurdles and improve bioprinting techniques.
Conclusion: A Bite of the Future - Bioprinted Cultured Meat
Bioprinting represents a transformative leap in the world of cultured meat. This technology holds the potential to create delicious, sustainable, and ethical meat alternatives, replicating the textures and flavors we crave.
While challenges remain in terms of cost reduction, bioink development, and scalability, ongoing research and collaboration are paving the way for advancements. Bioprinting paves the way for a future where:
Cultured meat becomes readily available and affordable for consumers.
Bioprinting techniques can create a wider variety of meat products, from steaks to sausages.
Consumers can enjoy the taste and texture of meat while making a positive environmental impact.

Whoa-oh we’re halfway there
Whoa-oh what’s your podcast player...
NaClYoHo is halfway through! This morning set my projection screen up to watch movies this evening, measured one of my tables because I want to replace it, and dismantled the smaller cat tree so I could measure their favorite scratching post for a replacement. I removed and replanted the aerogarden herbs, then thoroughly cleaned the tank and lid, ran it with dilute vinegar water, then rinsed again and replanted. I’ve got poppies, petunias, sage, and thyme growing.
I’m signed up, with my farm share, to receive meat about once a month, and I’m due for another share next Wednesday, so I also got the chuck roast from last delivery out of the freezer, thawed, and processed it -- trimmed it off the bone, ground the lean beef, and boiled the fat and bone to make a stock.
I also attempted to remove a lamp in the kitchen, only to find it is hard wired into the wall. It’s got to come out and I’d like that wire capped or converted to an outlet, which is beyond my current ability, so I’m going to put in an order with the building. We have a guy I’m pretty sure can do electrician work, but if they say they can’t I might call the Mystery Spirit who installed my dishwasher and ask if he’d do it. He did a great job last time and already knows my real name. Also I know he takes Venmo.
Listened to “A Market Solution To The Climate Crisis” by The Indicator, “The Downfall Of A Sneaker King” (FASCINATING piece about sneaker resale) by The Journal, and parts 1 and 2 of “The Last Cup” which is on my feed via Embedded, but is presented by NPR and Futuro Studios. It’s the story of Leo Messi, one of the best footballers ever to play professionally, and how this is likely his last shot at a World Cup for Argentina; it’s told through the eyes of an expat who left around the same time he did, and is as much about the pain of leaving one’s homeland as it is about football. (Paulo Dybala is also on the team this year, so I’m rooting for Argentina in the cup, and kind of excited to watch Messi and Dybala potentially play together live.)
[ID: Three images; top image is an Aerogarden hydroponic garden, cleaned, lit, and with fresh pods inserted. Lower left is an image of fat, gristle, and bone boiling away merrily on the stove; lower right is the result, a beautiful golden stock with a layer of fat floating on top.]

Sam and Max Save the World Retrospective: The Mob, The Mole and the Meatball (Comissioned by WeirdKev27)
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy freelance police and welcome back to my retrospective look at Telltale Sam and Max! We're onto chapter 3!
Chapter 3…. is my faviorite so far of the four chapters i've played so far. (And I didn't skip one i've simply played ahead a bit into Abe LIncoln Must Die! ), having the bets ballance of the truly amazing writing with gameplay. I rarely had to turn to a guide, with most puzzles being the right ballance of challenging while still being fun to figure out. So join me under the cut as our heroes have to play some wack a rat, fake a murder, and join the mafia to find a mole.
Chapter 3 opens with our heroes getting their usual assignment from the Chief: his mob in the infamous toy mafia , a bunch of standard mafiso who wear teddy bear heads, has gone missing so our heroes head to Ted E. Bear's Mafia free playland and Casino.
Part of why I love this chapter so much… is the setting. The combo of a chucky cheese with a casino (having a slot machine and poker but also using tokens, having a buffet (that's of course closed), and having a wack a rat machine) is genius and the singing heads offer it. There's also the fun easter egg of pulling your gun.. which naturally gets every gun in the place trained on you.
There's also the fun of a simple gag: your code words are "does the carpet match the drapes?" which naturally gets a lot of great responses and somehow dosen't get our heroes hit in the junk.
What's fun is the activites are two simple but fun ones: the first is a mini game wack a rat which while challenging, most of it is from the fact i'm playing on switch and the game wasn't reofrmatted from being clearly meant for mouse. It's still hilarious.
The meat though is a showdown with cardsharp Lenoard Steakcharmer whose just.. a delight. From his obviously shady apperance, to his relationship with his dead mom, Leonard is eaisly the highlight of the chapter. The trick with this puzzle wasn't figuring out how to beat him, you get an ace in your office, so it'eas easy enough to see that's how.. the question was how. The dealer refuses to use it as they already have five and there isn't an option to let Max jam it down lenoards throat and steal his ten million tokens. The actual solution though is awesome: ther'es a reflective clowns nose over the entrance, tha'ts not only how lenoard can see your cards, but how you beat him: you slap the ace up there, he assumes you have one, and thus folds…. netting our heroes their prize and leonoard some therapy. Everybody wins!
The next challenge is getting in which is easy due to Leonoards close compettition, the bug.. which being bosco is a LITERAL bug. Bosco has also installed an anti-delivery system as the toy mafia keeps trying to put things in. Gee I wonder if that'll be important later.
The Bug is fucking great, having apparently been to nam.. and look if I have two comedic weak spots it's cocaine and people having been in nam, so of course I loved him. He's also the funnest item to use so far as he's versatile, able to copy dialouge from people, and thus it makes his use trickier in a fun way: you have ot figure out both where to plant him and who to have himc opy. It comes into play more next time but given most other items are just "use them whent he plot says so" it's a nice change of pace.
With him we can get into the back office and Don Ted E. Bear is impressed with our work, and thus gives us a few assignments before we can join the family, none of which are plesant and two thirds of which threaten our friends: whacking Sybil and delivering the hypno bears from last chapter to bosco. You also find the one from last chapter in your closet which is .. there. It'd be werid if I didn't mention the closet but after last chapter's trophy and especially with the next one, it's a bit underwheming as a souvineer. The third chapter is the titular meatball: the mafia's treasured hoagie has been stolen.
I tackled the last one first as it was the easiest to figure out: they mentioned the theif would be fencing it… and in a nice chekov's gun that for once isn't as obscure, we naturally only know Jimmy.
What did suprise me was who was selling it, Lenoard, who I was delighed to see again and have a tense standoff with… only to find out his gun is a pop gun and thus Max easily solves it with a violence. Seriously finding out of all the options that was the one that solved it was hilarious. The game uses the fact you expect something more complicated.. only for the simpliest solution to be the easiest, thus making all the time attmepting ot talk him down funnier. We leave Leonoard beat up and thus have our first item.
Next is Sybil. Her new career is witness for hire, which unrotuantely means the mob wants her dead and has her monitored. The how is complicated as she refuses to fake her death, but figuring it out was satisfying: she constantly lifts a mug.. which is interactable. So you simply steal it for a second, fill it with ketchup at boscos and then shoot it, making it look like they got her. Bloody hilarious. Career wise it's the weakest so far, so not much to say. Same with french bosco, which really speaks to how fun the ted e bears setting and the actual puzzles are this time: our two allies aren't at their best but what we have to do is so fun and clever it dosen't matter.
For Bosco it's simple: use a magnet we got earlier on his camera afte rdistracting him. Simple stuff but still fun to pull off and his bafflement at them delivering while his back was turn is great. Also with Btads now focused on merch entering, you can shoot up the place, which is always fun.
So with all three jobs done, we get inducted into the mob.. and get a shocking twist I should've seen coming from a mile away: THE MOB'S HEAD IS THE MOLE. And of course he's a literal mole. Unfortunately this outs us to the mob's head, and thus we end up having to run. This leads to a fun chase sequence as WE'RE being chased this time. After taking out the mob behind us with some obstacles.
So it's onto the final puzzle: dealing with the mole himself in his spooky factory, where he's making about 80 dozen teddy bears to ship out and brainwash the populace. The good news is his main weapon is brainwashing our heroes to work in his factory.. and both our heroes are immune.
(Wah wah)
Sam because of his hat and Max.. well originally I was just going to shrug but the more I thought about it the more I realize there is a solid answer: Max's mental state is so erratic and deranged brainwashing has no effect on him. I mean think about it: his reaction to most horrors he faces is "again again". Some things truly creep him out, sure, but his thought processes can sometimes be so alien that the hypnosis would likely have to be specifically catered to him to work and even then i'm not sure tha'td be possible unless the person desinging said hypnosis was someone on Max's level of psychosis… like say the Joker.
Anyways this leads to a fun bit where you have to fake max's death (using Lenoard's popgun, a nice literal chekovs gun) then figure out how to destroy the machines. The solution.. is clever: you get a screwdriver and previously the one armed bandit slot machine I almost forgot to mention , that gives no prize and only gave one when used as a hiding place for the meatball sub, and use it to alter one of the bears and thus use the Mole's hypnosis plot on him, causing him to wreck the factory and our heroes to exscapte the twisted burning wreckage as they do every tuesday. OUr heroes pat themselveso n the back but like last time it's clear this sin't over as one of the mafiso bears takes off his head and calls the mysterious mastermind behind all this to trigger plan B.
Next Month: Our heroes must be bad enough dudes to stop the president, then presidential canditate the lincoln memorial… by having Max run for president, a classic case of the solution being far worse than the actual problem. Until then thanks for reading.
