CH98 & CH18 collide: Macy is the daughter of Prue (+ Cleavant Wilson) & Maggie is the daughter of Paige (+ Mason Cowan). Mel doesn't exist because she's the worst. Kaela is the daughter of Phoebe (+ Reece Davidson) &, oh, look Phoebe (+ the Seer) have another daughter named Jada (long story... don't ask... it was Leo's fault maybe) & they live over East but visit sometimes. Piper is the loveable aunt who never got to have babies of her own... but her AU sons Wyatt & Chris visit her occasionally.

not the mel slanderrrr you're not like wrong tho and i think i might actually have macy be the daughter of prue and gordon franklin (making max franklin her half brother). i also really love maggie as a daughter of paige that feels so inspired honestly i also really like witchlighter maggie phoebe and reece is also a really fun pairing i actually never watched s4 so i can't talk to her personality at all and i'm gonna throw in a wild card for jada specifically and say leo and ariel (the witch from prewitched in an au where she didn't die). ooh and you know what? a seer/cole child. the seer was lowkey sexy like!! she was sick as hell like i won't recant! idk who their seer/cole kid would be tho... not parker bc he was kind of a flop character. that being said, grooming him to be the source would really fit.... maybe seer/cole kid as macy given her demonic heritage....

Okay, so I finished episode eight (Bug a Boo) and thoughts (actually tracked through the episode this time):

my sister said that Jada gives off Bianca energy and I vibe with it. she also is questioning my sexuality bc I said Jada was hot, which. mostly bc I wanna look like her tbh, one of my ideal style categories is "witch" sooo. But also Jada really is just cool as hell, I like her.

this whole dating app plot would be great for a Cupid girl, tbh. Like there are a couple of plot points or episodes that'd been great for a next gen kid, but I think that one of the Cupid-witches getting a plot with a dating app would be really cute.

Maggie and Parker have been dating for like. five minutes. why the fuck are they talking about spending the summer together?? y'all don't even know if you'll still be together, what the fuck

Hunter sticking up for Parker thoooo. I'll be honest, demon bros relationship is actually really adorable and funny. It's definitely a highlight of the episode.

Why are they two different kinds of demon though?? Hunter is a shapeshifter and Parker is a shadow demon, like. Their dad doesn't seem to be either kind either, how do demonic genetics work

👀 okay but Julia and Macy's relationships possibly paralleling Elise and Phoebe's relationship in the original? Older female boss takes on a slightly more maternal role to the witch who never had her mom?

Their powers are already really fricking strong, idk how they're supposed to advance when it seems so easy for them already

The argument between Charity and Mel about helping in mortal affairs seems very similar to the discussion Paige and Henry had in s8 of the original, but uhhh Mel is dumb (shocker) and fundamentally misunderstands what the Elders and the S'Arcana told her. No one told her to just stand by and do nothing when bad things are happening right in front of her, even using her magic to do it. (I mean, the original sisters never just let bad things happen in front of them bc they didn't want to use their powers.) The difference is that the S'Arcana want to go out of their way to aid in mortal affairs that aren't directly happening in front of them, aka a proactive and direct role, while the Elders want to stick to magical affairs. Mel manages to fundamentally misunderstand both groups, bc she is dumb.

Oh, God, I hate that bug demon, it's fucking horrifying.

Why are all of the Elders dressed in white? (I get the no faces thing, but uhhh, that definitely hits nightmare fuel for me.) It's kinda. on the nose, man, bc at least the og Elders were all wearing the same type of robes so it was more of a uniform. This just feels cultish.

Why does Macy like Galvin? Babe, you can do so much better, this man is boring af.

Did a season 1 rewatch of Charmed (2018) a few weeks ago (thanks to my local library), and oooh boy.

Admittedly, it annoys the hell out of me that the opening credits for the reboot have "Created by Constance M. Burge". I KNOW they have to credit her for legal reasons, since it was her show they stole while acting like the original never existed, but she had jack shit to do with the development of the reboot. I'm also annoyed that the pilot for the reboot gave her writing credit, when uh…. that's a lie. There's the second network draft of the pilot script floating around that solely lists Jennie Snyder Urman, Jessica O'Toole, and Amy Rardin. Burge's name is nowhere to be found. Everything about the reboot states that it was developed by Urman; Burge had nothing to do with it.

Even if they seriously wanted to credit her, at least do it a different way? At least credit her with "Based on the series Charmed created by Constance M. Burge" or something like that?

Back to the main point: it really does feel like they packed 4 - 8 seasons worth of material into one season. Sometimes 3 seasons' worth of material into 1 episode.

Gods, this show is a mess, and what's sad is that season 1, compared to what comes later, is the best season of the reboot (and that isn't saying much, because man does season 1 have its problems). Like… maybe 15 episodes in and it still feels like the writers don't know these characters at all, which means the audience doesn't either.

They never know what to do with Mel (who comes across like a total dumbass when dealing with both the Elders and the Sarcana), Maggie is incredibly self-centered, Macy is the smartest out of the three (and also the only one that actually gives a shit at finding out anything about anything), but good grief.

The only thing Maggie cares about all season is getting into the Kappa sorority and her half-demon boyfriend Parker. Meanwhile I'm wondering why the hell she wants to be in this particular sorority so badly, because it is portrayed in the most stereotypical way possible and Kappa leader Lucy is such a shallow, vapid party girl bitch whose voice grates on my ears. (This is supposed to take place in Michigan, 2 hours away from Ann Arbor, so why does Lucy sound like she's from Orange County in California? I get that out-of-state students exist, but the actress's voice she uses for this particular character annoys the hell out of me.)

Another thing: Mel doing the history rewriting spell to protect Niko turns out to have been completely unnecessary because 1) Jada points out there’s another spell she could have used to protect Niko that didn’t involve rewriting her personal history; and 2) Mel ends up telling Niko anyway that she’s a witch. Because Niko ends up back in Mel’s life anyway as a PI investigating the Sarcana for Jada’s adoptive parents, and Mel cannot stay away from her (despite Niko being engaged to Greta in this timeline—the very same Greta she initially cheated on with Mel in their original timeline).

I still don't like how Macy's virginity is Such a Big Deal to all the other characters and how her love interest Galvin has more of a reaction to her being a virgin than he does to her being a witch. Even her sisters make a Huge Deal out of the fact she's still a virgin at 28, which Macy is visibly annoyed by because it's not that big a deal to her.

I'm still in my abimel feels and wondering how the hell mel/ruby lasted as long as it did when it was the stalest, least convincing romance (f/f and f/m) in the entire series. mel/niko (sweet), mel/jada (so cool), and mel/kat (if only it hadn't been handled so strangely) were all better.

like, you literally could NOT see the happiness and love mel/ruby kept prattling on about.

and, of course, abimel was fire from the moment they first interacted. immediate spark. I'll have to settle for believing that it would have happened had there been a season 5.
