New metal adjustments have been recently added (plus more barbwire on the US side) to the fence that goes along the Pacific Ocean, stretching out through the Tijuana-San Diego area, by border officials to keep migrants from both slipping under and over to the other side of the beach. That afternoon, Number 39 on the list showed up after all, pushing his spot back a bit. He waited the next morning, to wait all over again. “I’m happy, either way,” Bladimir said. “I thank God for the opportunity given to me…It’s almost my turn.” via @longdrivesouth for @lataco. — UPDATE: Since then Bladimir went through a long and rocky journey into the U.S. immigration justice system that had him caged, locked up and transferred to many locations within the States. He described his circumstances as terrible, sad and hopeless, at times missing home. Eventually his lawyer was able to get him a work visa while he waited in New York with his extended family that lives in NYC. He still must check in with his immigration officer and appeal to get refugee status as his visa is only temporary until a decision can be made on his final status or if he will be deported back to Honduras. Currently he is now living in the state of Maryland helping a local christian ministry which provides him with a small stipend for his work, food and living quarters. “They treat me really well here. I am happy to be here. Now I just have to wait and see what is next for me. The Pentagon will deploy up to 5,000 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to prevent members of a migrant caravan from illegally entering the country, a U.S. official said Monday.

About 2,100 National Guard troops are already fanned out across the border under an order from President Donald Trump earlier this year. In recent weeks, the president has been warning repeatedly about the dangers posed by a caravan of mostly Central American migrants, which has swelled to an estimated 7,000 people and is continuing its slow trek north through Mexico.

Administration officials said last week that they were considering a plan to send up to 1,000 active duty troops to the border, but that deployment has increased to 5,000, according to the Department of Homeland Security official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss the plans before a formal announcement Monday afternoon.
