#Mother Dairy price cut

‏Hello, I am Iman from Gaza 🍉, a science teacher, a mother of five children: Nada (11), Rahaf (8), Sarah (5), Sham (3), Zeina (9 months). Technology is a beautiful, beautiful life. When the war broke out, everything turned upside down. My school that she uses was bombed, my husband lost his job, our house burned down, and our children lost their schools, clothes, toys, dreams, and future. We lost ten members of the group and lived in a tent that did not protect us from the cold of winter or the heat of summer. We were displaced more than ten times to escape the hell of war and there was no safe place in Gaza! We would flee from another place until we were besieged and miraculously escaped death! Until we set up the tent on the Mawasi of Yu Khanis and lived in it. It was not suitable for human habitation. In the winter, the rain would drown the children and the tent would be flooded with rain, with the lack of stimulants that made my daughters suffer from influenza, colds, and diarrhea. They would shiver from the cold of winter and the winds almost tore the tent apart!! And we stayed in the tent until summer came with its dangerous, scorching sun and its many harmful insects, such as flies, mosquitoes, scorpions and mice. The heat almost melted my daughters' bodies, as they were symptoms of skin diseases, ulcers, hepatitis, epidemic and pollution, all this in a wretched tent that could not accommodate two heads, as it was the kitchen, the one that was gloomy and the one that was high enough for sleeping.
‏We suffer from fetching water long distances on foot, and it is not enough, and if we find it, it is not polluted and not fit for drinking or use.
‏In this tent, my little girl Zeina was born and she left the hospital to the tent under direct health conditions. We suffer from good morning to crazy in terms of selling prices and completing vaccinations and medicines, and my daughter stopped due to malnutrition.
‏Do you think the tent is safe? No, by God, other tents were bombed near us and my children and I were shot at by occupation naval boats while we were on the sea, but we survived!
‏Since the beginning of the war, we have been living on canned food and my children crave water, fruits, meat and dairy products, but they are expensive. They crave sweets that are not simple!
‏As for our house, its walls have been bombed and everything in it, including beds, children's clothes, their clothes and belongings, has been burned. They are always crying, wanting their clothes and their clothes!!
‏We have been suffering from power outages since the beginning of the war (a year ago) and gas outages. My children are working by collecting firewood to cook food in primitive ways. We have been cut off from the outside world for five months, as there were no communications or internet!
‏Save us from the hell of war before it is too late. We are growing slowly every day 😭 Please donate to my children, help us get out of Gaza and escape this deadly war 🙏🥹🍉

the dark reality behind dairy
By World of Vegan.
Within the dairy realm, two narratives intertwine: the plight of the mothers and that of their offspring.
Artificial insemination serves as a harsh introduction to the dairy industry’s cycle of exploitation. Unlike the natural way to get pregnant, female cows within commercial dairy farms are subjected to an intrusive process that blatantly violates their reproductive system.
This invasive procedure forces cows into a perpetual cycle of pregnancies, denying them the right to choose their mates or control their reproductive destinies.
Just like human mothers, a female cow has a nine-month gestation period. And after giving birth, calves typically nurse from their mothers for 6 months or longer.
But in the dairy industry, once her calf is born, she’ll experience a mere day or two of companionship—sometime less—before her calf is forcefully separated from her to prevent the loss of even a drop of valuable milk, which would cut into the profits of the dairy industry. This is the last time the mother will see her baby.
Like most moms, cows have powerful maternal instincts and are extremely distressed when their babies are taken away from them. Their anguished bellows can be heard for up to a mile away. Some cows are so distraught that they will even stop eating.
Post-separation, the mother cows are subjected to mechanical milking—a stark contrast to the nostalgic image of a farmer hand-milking a cow.
As soon as her baby is taken away, the mother will be hooked up to a milking machine to take the milk that her body made for her calf. In natural circumstances, nursing cows produce just 12 to 15 pounds of milk each day and calves nurse all day long.
But in the majority of today’s dairy operations, a mother cow will produce a staggering 50 pounds of milk daily. The pressure of her painfully loaded udder will only be relieved by mechanical milking twice a day, which often leads to mastitis and other excruciatingly painful conditions.
As time progresses, milk production wanes, initiating a vicious cycle of repeated artificial impregnation, bereavement, and mechanical milking.
This cycle persists yearly until these cows meet a grim fate—slaughtered as adolescents, their natural lifespan of 25 to 30 years cut short. Their bodies, devoid of milk-production utility, are often processed into meat products, most often burgers.
Shifting focus to their offspring, USDA statistics reveal that 97 percent of calves are separated from their mothers within the first 12 hours of birth.
Female calves, like their mothers, confront a bleak fate. Denied maternal nourishment, they are confined in solitary and often cramped pens, where they have no way to find comfort or nurse from their mother.
Replacing mother’s milk with a formula, they endure this existence for 6-8 months, foregoing a natural upbringing characterized by play, bonding, and freedom.
Once fertile, the cycle of forced impregnation, grief, mechanical milking, and eventual slaughter begins anew.
50 percent of the babies born will be male, and a male calf has little financial value to the dairy industry because he’ll never produce milk.
In most situations he’ll either be kept and raised for beef, slaughtered immediately for cheap veal, or sent to a torturous facility to become higher priced veal.
On a veal farm the baby calf will be confined in a small space in which he can barely move and fed an iron-poor diet until he becomes severely anemic. His muscles will atrophy, and at just a few months of age, he’ll be slaughtered. His tender, pale flesh will be sold as veal.
You may be surprised to learn that marketing buzzwords like “Organic, Grass-Fed and Free-range” you might see on meat, dairy, and egg labels don’t guarantee better lives for the animals.
The mechanics remain the same, including the unavoidable separation of baby from mother, painful surgical mutilations without anesthetic, factory-style milking, and premature slaughter.
These terms, designed to attract compassionate consumers, fail to dismantle the core mechanisms of exploitation.
Considering the immense suffering, is the fleeting gustatory pleasure of cow’s milk truly worth it? The array of delicious, plant-based alternatives renders this question obsolete. Opting for both taste and compassion aligns with our evolving food landscape.
Our grocery choices equate to votes for the world we desire. While personal, these choices transcend the individual, impacting the lives of others.
Opting for animal-based dairy entails contributing to a continuum of suffering. Awareness fuels change. Acknowledging one’s past contributions to cruelty ignites a journey toward more humane choices. Armed with knowledge, we navigate a path of greater compassion, for when we know better, we can genuinely do better.

Whatever Keeps You Around (Rick Flag x Eris)
Summary: Based on this prompt, Eris runs into an immortal surprise in a very mundane place. (Title from First Time by Hozier)
Word Count: 2.1k
Tags: Mild jealousy, mild possessive themes, some mentions of violence.
____
"Go see if they have any bread you like, hon."
Eris nodded, ducking past him and half-jogging up to the shelf of artisanal bread in the corner of the store. This was why he'd picked this store, even though it was small and pricey and overly-organic: Eris claimed it was the only place in New Orleans that made bread the right way, whatever they in their mind deemed the right way.
All Rick knew was that it cost about eight dollars a pop and was loaded with spices he couldn't identify, and that Eris could go through three loaves a week if he let them. Usually he did. The one perk to working for Amanda Waller was the paycheck, and that allowed him at least enough wiggle room to buy the right kind of bread.
She jogged back up to him, two loaves wrapped in paper in her arms, just as Rick had finished thanking the deli clerk for his cold cuts and cheeses. Eris tucked the bread into the shopping cart almost delicately and promptly plucked the deli bags from his hands to inspect his selections.
"Oven-roasted turkey? Not the herb kind?"
"Outta stock. I've got thyme and stuff back at the house if it really bothers you," Rick replied, "What kind of bread did you pick out?"
"Honey-rosemary and something they call rustic medley," Eris muttered, "I'll be the judge of that."
"Sounds pretty good," he agreed, "Maybe we can make butter to go with it."
Eris tilted his head, something Rick stupidly misinterpreted as a lack of understanding.
"I saw it online, you just put heavy cream and a little salt in a mason jar, shake it u-"
"I'd be willing to bet I'm more familiar with making butter than you are, Flag." Eris cut him off, sharp as always, "But why?"
"I dunno. Seems like fun."
"You have a real strange idea of fun. And this is coming from someone who lived through tapestry being the popular hobby." they jeered, but tossed a carton of heavy cream into the cart as they passed the dairy case. Rick tried to hide his smile. If anyone was the definition of 'actions speak louder than words', it was Eris.
He stayed close to Rick's side as they wandered the store, occasionally tossing things into the cart on what looked like pure whim. Cans of tomato soup, the ones Rick remembered mentioning were his favorite because they reminded him of his childhood, made their way in alongside pretzels and peanut butter and bars of high-cacao baking chocolate. It was far too bitter for his tastes, at least in anything other than baked goods, but Eris could snack on it like a Hershey bar. She liked it for the same reason she liked the artisanal bread, he thought. Nostalgia, or the closest thing to nostalgia they could find.
"Lasagna tonight? Or should we just find something to stick in the oven?" Rick asked, frowning at the prices of the pasta boxes on the shelves. Eris was back at his side in a moment, moving so quickly and silently that he would have jumped if he wasn't used to it.
"Hm. Neither. Make your pot pie." he decided, and Rick felt him lean in against his side, "I have a taste for it."
His mother's recipe, the one he'd tried so hard to get right after her death, now lived on as a favorite in the mind of a centuries-old metahuman.
That one made him feel good.
He knew Eris wasn't one for public affection, but he still couldn't resist wrapping his arm around their shoulders and pressing a kiss to the top of their head. He pulled back quickly, before Eris could wriggle away or complain about looking soft, and waved a hand at the produce aisle they'd left in their wake.
"Go grab me a bag of baby carrots and some green beans, then," he said, then paused and corrected, "In a bag. Not just loose green beans."
"I know that, smartass." Eris huffed, rolling her eyes at him as she walked away. Rick suppressed a chuckle.
There was someone else in the produce aisle, apparently trying to decide between a starfruit and a cherimoya. They were half a head taller than Eris, with wavy brown hair halfway down their back and a flowing blue sundress swishing around their knees.
Rick didn't pay them much mind, and was about to turn and grab a can of biscuits when Eris froze in his tracks.
"Julius?"
The taller figure whipped around so fast it must have given them whiplash, and their eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. Rick could see, even from afar, that their features had the same strangely archaic look as Eris' own, though perhaps a continent and a few centuries apart.
"Oh my- Eris?" they stammered, then gestured vaguely at themself, "And it's- er, Wisteria now. Wisty."
"Wisty." Eris repeated, as if testing out the name, "You're... very not dead, for someone three hundred years old."
"Made a deal with a witch a while back. And you're... very tame for how I remember you."
That made a grin flash across Eris' face, quick and sharp and promising only dark things.
"Try me."
But Wisty didn't flinch. She just smiled right back, though this one was nostalgic, almost soft.
The thought struck Rick like a bolt of lightning.
Eris had a type.
Underneath the flowing fabric of her dress, Wisty had to be at least as tall as Rick himself was, and just as stacked with muscle. Old scars littered what bare skin was visible around her clothing, like she'd been a fighter in a past life- or perhaps still was. And she knew not to flinch at those shark-smiles Eris threw at her. Just like Rick did.
The thought made something strange bubble up inside him. He wasn't sure he liked it. As strange and twisted as Eris' affections could be, he'd never before had competition for those affections. It was actually one of the best things about being with them, knowing they'd always drift back to him at the end of all the chaos.
It wasn't Wisteria's arrival alone that had him so tense. What really got him was the set of Eris' posture as he spoke to her: leaned back slightly on his heels, shoulders loose, head tilted ever-so-slightly in curiosity. Casual. Relaxed. The only time he'd ever seen Eris truly relaxed was when they were alone with him.
"We should catch back up." Wisty decided, a smile slowly growing on her face, "Go... spar like the old times or something. I'm a lot tougher than I used to be."
"I don't doubt it." Eris said, their spine automatically straightening at the promise of a good challenge.
He deserved this, Rick thought. This was some sort of cosmic payback for those two years he spent pushing her aside in favor of June, for snapping at all the times they suggested making him into a metahuman like them - it was all to keep him safe, to keep him around.
Well, here was someone who'd stuck around. Who'd played the long game, the centuries-long game, the way Rick was always so afraid to commit to. Who could hold their own against Eris, when she still had to pull her punches against him.
"What do you think? My lance and your spear, or hand-to-hand?" Wisty asked, playfully throwing up her fists with a broad grin. Eris returned the gesture, bouncing on his toes a little.
It was like he'd forgotten Rick was there, just ten feet back. And even as much as he wanted to call out, to remind them... he couldn't move. All he could do was watch it all unravel before him, the can of biscuits still held tight in one hand. Suddenly his mom's old recipe didn't seem to matter much.
"It'll be like before. You and me," Wisty said, "The old war god and the king's footsoldier."
Then there was a different kind of tension in Eris' posture. The shift was sudden, her chin lifted and her shoulders drawn back, all joviality transformed into something more guarded.
"I'm with someone." he said, each word crisply spaced, and brushed past Wisty with smooth, disciplined steps. They grabbed a plastic bag and shoved a handful of green beans into it, pausing only to pluck a few wrinkled and undesirable vegetables from the lot and toss them back. Wisteria turned, fixing them with a tilted expression.
"You told me you wouldn't love another. You told me love was too painful. You told me... that I was the last one."
Eris snatched a bag of baby carrots, holding them tight in her hand as she turned.
"I was wrong." they said, chin set and eyes blazing, "And if you do a damn thing to him, if you hurt him thinking that'll bring me back to you, I'll kill you where you stand. And I will feel no remorse."
With that, he stormed his way back to Rick and tossed the vegetables into the shopping cart.
"You were staring." they muttered, taking the can of biscuits from his hand and dropping it into the cart alongside the rest of the groceries. Then, to his surprise, they folded their fingers into his own. For Eris, that was the equivalent of a public strip tease. Rick gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"Yeah, I know. Couldn't help it." he admitted, knowing better than to try and duck around it, "First time I've ever seen one of your old friends. Didn't realize there was anyone else... like me."
"She wasn't like you." Eris huffed, ducking around his arm to give the cart a brisk shove, "Nobody's like you."
"It's alright if she was." Rick argued, "I know I'm not the only person you've loved, doll. That's okay."
Eris opened his mouth to respond, then reconsidered and shook his head. It must've been a lot to explain, or something they couldn't bear to speak in such public company. Their posture was still tense, shoulders stony, and they didn't spare so much as a single glance back at the produce aisle.
"Nobody's like you." she just repeated, even more set and sullen. Rick decided there were two ways he could take that: a sign that this love was real, or a sign that the pattern would end up repeating itself in a few years. He decided to take it as the former. The latter, true as it might be, felt far too pessimistic.
"Rome!" a voice called from behind them, and finally Eris turned. Wisteria had caught up, and fire a glance between the two of them. Rick met her eyes calmly, and found something strange swimming there. She returned her gaze to Eris, unflinching. "A hundred years. Rome. Then we'll have our fight."
Rick could hear the other half of her words: because he won't be around by then. Maybe he should have been offended by the implications. He didn't bother. He'd always known there would be someone after him. He didn't expect to meet that someone, but... this was life with Eris. He'd learned to get used to things like this.
"Fine." Eris agreed, though the firm look never left her eyes, "I will meet you on the steps of the Colosseum in one hundred years exactly. We will have our fight."
Their grip tightened on his hand unexpectedly, right on the verge of being painful. Wisteria's eyes fell straight to it, and she frowned a little. Eris must not have been any more affectionate in their prior life.
"But you will get no love from me then." they concluded, "They will bury my heart when they bury him."
Rick saw hurt bloom across Wisty's face, a shocked and helpless sort of pain, but Eris just spun and gave the cart another brutal shove towards the checkout lanes. Rick found himself pausing an extra moment, looking into Wisty's shockingly crestfallen eyes and debating an apology.
In the end, he just shut his mouth and trailed after Eris, leaving Wisty where she stood. He had a sense that speaking to her would only make things worse. It was better just for him to be, in her mind, some speechless nameless thing at Eris' heels. It was probably safer for the both of them.
He caught up to Eris just shy of the checkout lanes, right as they set a rotisserie chicken in the front basket of the cart. She glanced up at him as he approached and offered him something like a smile. It was a little pointed, a little irritated, but he didn't mind that too much.
"You're mine." she muttered, possessive like a wolf to its mate, "Until they put you in the ground, you're mine."
"I love you too, wartime."

I am not a farmer... I am just a silly businessman who bought two struggling farms for all the wrong reasons! But, I am learning.
In 2007, following a military exercise on Salisbury Plain I accepted an invitation from a British Army General to join him for dinner at his Dorset home.
I immediately fell in love with the area. It was like stepping back in time without the aid of a TARDIS!
The General took me to a local pub. After a lovely meal, he introduced me to a local farmer, also named John who was sitting at the bar, looking very tired and emotional. I got chatting with Farmer John... He told me that he was struggling to cope with his workload and wanted to retire. But, his wife loved farm life so much that he felt he could never leave the farm, even though they were struggling to make ends meet.
Farmer John was quite intelligent even in his inebriated state, and had calculated that he needed to work 27 hours a day in order to bring the harvest in before the rain that was forecast. I volunteered to help.
The next day I had to go to Dorchester to buy some clothes (I only had an overnight bag). I then drove to the farm. To cut a very long story short, I ended up staying on the farm for three weeks.
I had been there a few days before I had the chance to talk to the farmer's wife on her own. She wanted to get away from the farm, but thought that husband John loved the farming life so much that he would never leave.
Husband and wife both wanted to leave the farm, but thought their partner didn't! This gave me a headache!
Ignoring my business and financial advisors, I made an offer to buy the mainly arable farm.
Both Farmer John and wife Barbara were a bit surprised at my offer... but, it forced them to talk honestly to each other, and they agreed to the deal in principal. In exchange for a reduction on the purchase price of the farm, I bought them a new luxury apartment on the outskirts of Dorchester... and they still live there today.
Ten years later in 2018... The neighbouring dairy farmer told me that he was selling up. They only had 67 cows, and they were all nearing the end of their productive life. All of the cow sheds needed renovating, or replacing. BUT on the plus side... the dairy farm had a huge amount of unused land, and also had a terrace of eight cottages (which also needed renovating.)
My mother had recently passed away... and she loved cows. I had to make an offer on the dairy farm (on my mother's behalf), or risk the site being sold to property developers. (MY financial advisor shook his head in disbelief... again!)
It cost me a fortune to renovate the dairy, and the cottages. But the extra land has allowed us to increase our crop production.
Both farms are now returning profit... albeit small. Our dairy herd has increased from 67 to 327. The anaerobic digestor makes both farms self-sufficient for electricity, and we are constantly working with researchers and universities to develop new ideas.

What the ongoing egg crisis really means for Las Vegas locals
Vegas citizens are struggling to acess eggs, a staple food for families across the city

Bird flu, shipping problems, inflation, the pandemic, all of these are excuses given for the recent egg crisis. But what is really happening? What does it say about how Las Vegas treats its businesses over the people?
The last few months in Las Vegas regular citizens have reported having a difficult time finding eggs. When they do, they are grossly overpriced.
Once reliable local grocers; Walmart, Target, Smiths, La Bonita and others can’t seem to keep eggs in stock. Bird flu and inflation have been cited as the main causes for the crisis, but some doubt that as the truth.
Bird flu, or avian influenza is a disease that primarily affects birds but can also infect humans.
The disease spreads from their bodily fluids and can infect humans if they make enough unprotected contact. In poultry the symptoms can range from minimal to deadly and it can spread to an entire flock in 24 hours. It was this that caused it to spread quickly across farms in the US, killing over 50 million birds, cutting short the supply of eggs.
This shortage in turn caused the inflation in the price of eggs. Inflation is when goods and services in an economy vastly increase in price over a short period. CNBC says the price of eggs has increased over 70% in the last year. What was once three dollars is now seven.
In reality what this recent situation has revealed to the people of Vegas is special treatment given to the major businesses and a lack of care for local citizens.
“This crisis will go on for a while. I don’t think it’s going to get better. Businesses will abuse this excuse to charge high prices for eggs. I’m going to buy them anyway, because I need them” said Bertha Perez, a single mother of six living in Las Vegas.
Her economic situation has varied greatly, from enough to buy her own home to living on food stamps. As such she knows a lot about how the treatment given to everyday citizens from the city actually affects them.
Perez has lost a lot to the pandemic. Having lost her husband to COVID-19 a year prior her world turned upside down, she’s learned how to do what she has to to survive. Doing that and taking care of her children starts with eggs.
She has had to go to several stores regularly just to find eggs like Walmart, Savers, Costco, Smart and Final, and La Bonita. Though she notes she has not yet tried Business Costco.
With her kids and all their different breakfast schedules, she relies heavily on them for a quick and easy meal. It is a staple of everything she cooks. For bigger families, it’s easier to buy in bulk.
That’s become harder and harder to do. That is because Vegas doesn’t care about its people. It cares about businesses, they get major preference.
On average they spend more money than regular people, having to buy in bulk and stay well supplied at all times. They give these businesses that rely on eggs many ways to keep bread on the table.
Tumblr media

This is supported by Carlos Benitez, son of the owners of local breakfast restaurant Eggscellent. “Businesses are definitely getting preference. The city has provided options for us and been very favorable." He would know better than anyone, with his family running a successful egg based business.
Eggs are the foundation of everything they are at Eggscellent. He says “It comes down to how manufacturers make money. They make more money off of businesses, not people."
The citizens of Vegas may not like to admit it, but this is the truth. It is a common sentiment expressed by many, including Perez. “Business Costcos are more important. They buy more, so they pay less." She assumes the city treats business retailers better than grocery stores like Walmart. The amount they buy makes a difference.
“We buy in bulk, so it’s been hard to notice the egg shortage,” said Benitiz. “Business got better after the pandemic” because fewer restaurants were open. These closures and shortages actually benefit many businesses.
Tumblr media

According to an article on Squareup.com called ‘Direct to Consumer v. Wholesale: Pros, Cons, and How to Balance Both’ it depends more on the kind of business whether customers or wholesale buyers matter more to them. Regardless, there can be many cons to both.
We don’t know for sure how Costco, or Walmart, or any other bigger business in Vegas really feels about the egg crisis. They like to make money, and this crisis gives them a good way to do that.
These businesses can charge as much as they like for eggs with the excuse of a shortage and spreading bird flu. Even when supply begins to return to normal, which it has already begun to do, they were given a reason to have high prices, and why would any profitable business want to change that?
That is a fact. So why wouldn’t they care more about businesses in a shortage of supply? This benefits them. To the point that rumors are spreading the crisis was artificially created to charge higher prices for eggs.
Perez claims she’s seen videos saying the government has provided a kind of food that changes egg production.
She and some others, like many videos across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are saying that it is the government’s fault for manufacturing the shortage. Sources CBS, USAToday, and Politifact say otherwise.
Though there is some real conversation around the idea that it is not a government conspiracy, but simply the improper conditions that can be found in many egg farms around the US. The most frequent example for this given by users across the internet is insufficient and low quality chicken feed provided by the government.
Regardless of who’s causing it, and who makes more money, it is affecting everyone in the city. It is hurting people and it’s just going to keep going.
“This crisis is going to go on for a while. I don’t think it’s going to get better. Everything is going to increase” says Perez.

Mother Nature Is a Tease
She pops out for a day, shows a little leg, smiles demurely, and disappears again, leaving her anxious suitors to suffer through more cold and wet. It’s hardly any wonder that the symbol of weather should run hot and cold, but sheesh – enough is enough. The stupid groundhog predicted an early spring, but he didn't say it would come all at once. What is a groundhog, anyway? It’s a big rat. Set a trap, somebody. Even more than usual, our weather pattern looks like a heartbeat on an EKG. It reminds me the old days, when I walked to school barefoot, in a raging blizzard every morning and a blistering heat wave in the afternoon. (Uphill both ways, blah blah blah.) I really should get around to admitting I only lived two blocks from school. As a result of the bouncing weather, some people say they'd rather it just stay cold all the time. Their brains are still frozen. Saying cold all the time instead of warm some of the time is like saying that, since you can’t eat 24 hours a day, you’d rather just starve. To carry the heavy comparison further, I’d rather weigh 300 pounds but be alive than be the first member of my family to voluntarily starve to death.
Tumblr media
Most of my best winter photos are taken from inside. I care less about glare than I do about frostbite.
Summer now goes by much more quickly than it used to, and winter – strange as our recent winters have been – lasts much longer. When I was a kid, the average summer lasted eighteen months. Seriously. I would go out to play after breakfast, and wouldn’t come in again for three days, just in time for lunch. The summer when I turned nine lasted for over six years. It’s a science-fictiony mystery, but there you go. We went down to Kentucky for a two week vacation that lasted so long we had to cut down trees to get the car back on the road. And it never got hot. Kids could wake up in the hospital with two IV’s in their arms to rehydrate them, and have no idea they were ever overheated. Then they’d go home and run back outside again. Sure, most of us didn’t notice the cold, either, but we sure noticed when we started getting feeling back into our limbs. It was like getting a power pinch from our least favorite aunt – all over.
Tumblr media
Isn't this fun? SO much fun. Later I'm having hot chocolate and a good cry.
Even the bad things about summer are proof that summer is good:
Bugs? Hate ‘em. But why do they come out during the spring? Because during winter they’re dead. Everything’s dead. It’s a dead season. Mother Nature is dead – the first lightning storm of the spring is like a giant defibrillator, starting her heart back up. No lawn mowing during winter. Why? Grass is dead. No poison ivy during winter. Why? Dead. Snakes? Dead. No spiders during the winter. (Spiders are not bugs. Bugs are just bugs – spiders are evil.) Even spiders know dead when they see it, although many think it looks like the bottom of my shoe. Hot and humid is unpleasant, I get that, but nobody's car ever slid into a snowbank because the sun was shining too much. No poor match girl ever froze to death under a shade tree during an Independence Day celebration.
Tornadoes? Terrible things, mile-wide vacuum cleaners. But blizzards have covered half the friggin’ country. Besides, no matter how strong it was, no meteorologist ever mentioned “tornado” in the same sentence as “wind chill”. Winter even smells dead – spring smells of fresh cut grass, and lilacs, and that earthy scent that comes with a warm summer rain. And yes, it also smells of hot asphalt, and dairy farms, and sweat, but that’s a small price to pay for driving down a country road with the window open and breathing deeply as you pass a cornfield.
Tumblr media
Pretty, isn't it? And DEAD.
Almost everything’s green, with patches of other bright colors like spotting a forgotten twenty dollar bill. Green is life. Winter has no color: It’s black and white and dead all over. I could also go for the cliché and mention the sounds – birds, frogs, insects, all more relaxing than the sound of sleet on siding, or furnaces kicking on. Finally, lest we forget, the feel of walking around in shorts and shirtsleeves, without the accompanying frostbite. Warmth makes everything a little better. Sure, you can’t store your frozen goods on the back porch, but that’s a small price to pay for opening the window and breathing real air. So come on out, Mother Nature, don’t be a tease. And don’t bother bringing your winter coat.

Japanese Butcher Store Specialised In Wagyu And Natural Meats
Wagyu is particular to four breeds of Japanese cattle – Matsusaka, Kobe, Yonezawa, or Mishima. Here in Canada, Wagyu beef is crossed with an Angus cow to create our very own Canadian Wagyu beef. Steven Velthuis is one of some farmers within the province elevating Japanese Wagyu beef with the assistance wagyu beef canada of a descendent of a small variety of purebred animals that arrived in North America in the Nineteen Nineties. Browse our online butcher store for a mouthwatering number of one of the best beef Halifax has ever seen.
And that old vegetarian rallying cry, “Meat is murder,” will not be an open-and-shut case. New MacDonald has a laboratory, an extruder, a 3D beef printer and the backing of venture capital. The price for this product is ready by the individual retailers and varies amongst them. Each retailer has a pricing coverage that could wagyu beef canada be discovered on that retailer's page. Please click on each retailer to see that retailer's value for this product. Authentic Kobe is a really specific animal raised in the Kobe Precinct of Japan, of pure Wagyu inventory, and treated to a wide range of particular feeding and husbandry techniques . More ranches are anticipated, so the value is more probably to come down. There are only about about 200 breeders in North America. In reality, this is similar bloodline used in Kobe, Japan to raise world well-known Kobe Beef.
The CBGA Board of Directors is comprised of industry representatives together with cattlemen, cattle feeders, packers and retailers. According to historians, for their first 2,000 years in Japan cattle have been used solely for labour as results of a Buddhist edict that prohibited the consumption of animal milk or flesh. Because of this, generations of Japanese cattle have been used virtually completely as draft animals, largely in mining, forestry, and rice farming. This modified in 1867 when sweeping social and political reforms launched by Japanese Emperor Meiji lifted the national ban on eating animal flesh. To hear Alberta rancher Dana Lammi inform it, the history of Wagyu beef and its unlikely path to high-end North American dinner plates has all the elements of a great thriller novel.
This beef is coveted by award-winning chefs and served in top-rated restaurants throughout the world. Snake River Farms beef includes a buttery texture, complicated flavorus, subtle sweetness and a lingering end. To get into butchering technicalities, the Rib Eye muscle is the continuation of the identical muscle as the Blade, however it's cut between the 5th and twelfth ribs which is a bit of the beef that does little or no work . Thrive Provisions has tapped into the advantages of Wagyu and has optimized their Wagyu bars for the on-the-go shopper, weekend warrior or health-conscious individual wagyu beef canada looking to feel and carry out at their best. Produced with the nutrition-seeking shopper or mindful father or mother in thoughts, Thrive bars are also gluten-, nut-, soy- and dairy-free, keto-friendly, and contain over 12 g of protein. If you might have been looking at getting into the Wagyu breed, you most likely have seen that it can be quite costly in comparison with different breeds.

Weirdly specific sad headcanon time! >:D
So for whatever reason last night, I started thinking about what kind of diet the gun boys would have while under military control. And I came up with some fun and painful stuff.
For some context, my mother is a registered dietitian. I checked all of this with her, so I can officially say it's nutritionally sound! I'm aiming for a structure that'll properly sustain a human body in this setting, but is about as cheap, simple, and miserable as it gets.
I'll also note that this is meant to be for fresh, on-base meals, not MREs or food required for those settings.
Info below the cut!
1. Basics
The very basic, most important things to think about here are adequate levels of protein and calories. Two of the cheapest, yet still nutritionally reliable, sources of protein are beans and eggs. For carbohydrates and quick calories, some form of simple grain covers that— most likely rice, since the combination of beans and rice fulfills all of the amino acids necessary for a complete protein. Eggs are complete on their own, so that's a beneficial addition.
What this looks like as a meal is going to be a mixture of plain, cooked beans and rice with whatever amount of whole eggs mixed in during the cooking process. Simple and incredibly dull to eat day after day, but surprisingly nutritious!
2. Nutrients
To cover things like vitamins and minerals, the quickest and easiest way amounts to what's done for cats and dogs with "homemade" food— as in, a scoop of nutrient powder containing the necessary amounts for function, dumped right into the above-mentioned meal. It likely makes the consistency at least a little gritty and gross, but it's a simple and cheap way to ensure bodily function, so it works.
3. Produce
While the necessary nutrients for functioning would be supplied by the first two points, produce is still a good idea. And in the case of not-people, what better way to offer that than by taking advantage of things humans don't want to consume? In this case, we're looking at the world's most awful salad, composed of leftover bits and pieces of whatever produce didn't make the cut for human meals. Nothing toxic or unsafe, of course, but things that are less than desirable.
Things that are a little too ripe, or not quite ripe enough, or perhaps slightly spoiled. Leftover bits from food processing that didn't make it into the soldiers' meals. For example, bananas that have gone brown, potato skins, carrot peels, fruit that's a little too squishy, over-ripe tomatoes, wilted lettuce— just all kinds of things that humans would pass up, this mixture is mockingly referred to as "Compost".
4. Liquids
In the military, the amount of water you drink is monitored for adequate consumption. And thanks to massive amounts of physical activity under harsh conditions, one needs a lot. Hydration is vital, so they're going to be downing plenty of plain old water.
In addition, though, an awful equivalent of a sports drink is given. Approximately the consistency of a thick, vaguely gritty broth, this drink is a mixture of water, more nutrient powder, and added electrolytes, and is meant to provide both additional nutrition and a quick, efficient means of hydration under extreme conditions. In terms of flavor, it's either going to be mostly tasteless, or vaguely resembling a faint, fruity, chemical-y sort of taste.
5. Animal Products
Foods like meat and dairy are rare occurrences. Between price, easy spoilage, and simply being considered too high-quality to waste on weapons, they don't make many appearances in the typical diet. When they do, it's cheap, simple proteins like chicken or white fish, cooked blandly, and even that's considered a special treat.
6. Others
Other foods, like many of the "favorites" we know in canon, are either going to be stolen or offered as special rewards. Belga's liking for cola, for example, would have started either from a hand-me-down from a soldier or something he managed to steal from whatever source. Cheap snacks can be offered as rewards of some form, but this varies for each gun. Some of them (the more important ones) may have been taken to events where they got to try more refined foods— and that's the kind of thing that leaves a lasting impression. Others may be given better meals as rewards for particularly good behavior, often tying into some form of abuse.
MREs and more processed foods are offered under either combat conditions or when someone is deemed undeserving of better meals. Things like 89 and Hachi's instant ramen are likely the result of not wanting to bother with feeding them properly, granted by those who don't want to bother dragging them out of their rooms, or sometimes "earned" for particularly good behavior. Even these basic, unhealthy meals are considered treats, and proper, good-tasting foods are basically unheard of, constituting very special occasions.
