Picture Show
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader
Request: heyyy friend! could you write something where a girl at Hawkins High (who’s sorta in the friend group with Steve, Robin, etc.) decides to go to Eddie’s trailer to either ask him out on a date or maybe to a school dance coming, and she just stutters and acts so damn nervous
Word Count: 0.8k
Warnings: a little bit of fluff, shy!reader, short fic, friends to lovers
AN: this was a request from @laurenandloki thanks for sending this in! I hope you don't mind that it's on the short side, but it's still really cute I promise. Enjoy!
Little side note: after I came up with the title it made me think of a musical I was obsessed with in high school, Bonnie & Clyde. The opening number was called Picture Show and it was a catchy song...basically what I'm getting at is that song is now stuck in my head 😂
Tumblr media
You stood outside Eddie’s trailer, two tickets to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror at The Hawk in your pocket, nervously wringing your hands trying to work up the courage to go knock on the door.
You had the biggest crush on Eddie and had been wanting to ask him out for months, but your nerves always got the best of you. You met him after becoming friends with Steve and Robin. He came into Family Video one day while you were working a shift with them, and you fell head over heels almost immediately. He was confident but not arrogant, surprisingly sweet and considerate, loyal to a fault, the funniest guy you had ever met, and had the best hair (that you would never admit in front of Steve). The two of you had slowly become friends as well, but you had never hung out without Steve and/or Robin present. Steve and Robin had been encouraging you to ask him out, and had even tried to help you a few times, but you always ended up chickening out.
Steve had given you the idea of asking him to go to the movies, and Robin told you about the showing of Rocky Horror, one of Eddie’s favorite movies. You went to the theatre and bought the tickets before you could second guess yourself and then went straight to Eddie’s…but you couldn’t move your feet to go up to the door.
“What if he’s busy? What if he already has plans to go to the movie with someone else? What if I’ve misread every interaction we’ve ever had, and he hates me?” You quietly worried aloud.
“Princess? Is that you?”
You froze at the sound of Eddie’s voice. When you looked up, Eddie was standing at his door, the smile that made your stomach flutter on his face. You immediately looked at the ground and started pulling at your fingers, “H-hi, Eddie.”
Eddie jogged down the stairs of the trailer and walked up to you, “To what do I owe the honor of your company this fine evening?”
“Um, I wanted to – I w-was hoping that m-maybe um, um…”
Eddie stood and patiently waited for you to finish. He knew you were really shy and got nervous over small things and very easily, and he never wanted you to feel bad about it, so he was always incredibly patient with you.
You continued to stammer through your sentence, eventually giving up and pulling out the tickets from your pocket and holding them out to him.
“What do we have here?” Eddie took the tickets from you, “movie tickets?”
You nodded, “Y-yes.”
“Oh my god! Are these for Rocky Horror?!” Eddie exclaimed with delight.
You nodded again.
“Awesome! Who are you going with?” He knew. He knew that’s what you had been trying to ask him, but a selfish part of him wanted to hear you ask him.
“Oh, um, I was – I was hoping, y-you know if you – if you don’t h-have any um, any plans, maybe we c-could go…to-together.”
Eddie smiled, “Like a date?”
Heat bloomed in your cheeks, “Um, m-maybe?”
He took a step closer to you, “You don’t sound too sure about that?” you refused to look at him but Eddie continued, “You know, I would like it if it were a date, but it could also be two friends hanging out and going to the movies together.”
“I would – I would like it to be a date to.” You said quietly.
“Well good!” Eddie stuck the tickets in his back pocket, “since the movie doesn’t start until midnight, why don’t we go get something to eat?”
You looked a him with slight confusion, “This late?”
“It’s only eight. There are plenty of places that are still open. What do you say?”
“O-okay.”
“Great,” Eddie ran back inside to grab his jacket and his wallet and then rejoined you outside. He walked over to the passenger side door of his van and opened it for you, sweeping his arm out and bowing in a dramatic fashion, “My lady.”
“Thank you.”
Eddie helped you into the van and closed the door before jogging over to the driver’s side and hopping into the van himself, “Have any preferences for food?”
You shook your head.
“How about the diner on Main Street? I know you like the milkshakes there.”
“Okay.” You looked at him with a shy smile.
-
*later at the diner*
“Have you ever seen Rocky Horror before?” Eddie asked as he slathered a french fry in ketchup.
You chuckled nervously, “Um…I haven’t actually.”
“Okay,” Eddie picked up another fry and pointed it at you, “I am going to need to explain a couple of things before we get there…so people will be throwing toast.”
“Toast?”
“Yes,” he popped the fry into his mouth and wiped his hands, “so be aware of that.”

Cut the Shit-Delusion, Sweetheart | Cillian Murphy x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: A young actress confesses her feelings to Cillian Murphy, this is how he responds.
warning: This is a much different story than I usually write but I think it's one that we all need in moments of pain and loneliness; to allow ourselves to feel sad and disappointment and hurt. We use people like Cillian to comfort ourselves and give ourselves reasons to be happy and sometimes we need moments to be sad. I was inspired by Fleabag (of course) and an AI edit I saw of Cillian where he turns someone down and its really sweet even though it breaks my heart lol. Age-diff, 1 noncon kiss, talk of infidelity.

Don't interact if you're a Yvonne-hater, please and thanks <3
She hesitated before she knocked on the side-door of Cillian’s trailer. This desperate feeling overwhelmed her and she knew that she couldn’t sleep unless she went to him and confessed how she felt. She’d been plagued by dreams of them together, these beautiful, perfect dreams that poisoned her sleep like melatonin. She loved him and whether or not he felt the same way, she needed to tell him. She exhaled shakily as she dropped her arm back to her side. She was wearing her normal clothes, out of costume finally after a long day of shooting. She lost her sense of security behind the battlements of her gowns and numerous frilly things. She couldn’t hide her feelings behind her character anymore.
The door opened and Cillian leaned against the doorframe in a casual greeting.
“Don’t tell me we have a late night call time tonight, I’m fucking exhausted.” He smiled with his lopsided grin, his wide lips framing his teeth.
“No, but there is some business I need to attend to. May I come in?” She returned his smile and mirrored his posture.
“Sure, come on.” He stepped aside and raised his arm in a welcoming gesture for her to pass through the door. She nodded in silent thanks and stood awkwardly in his trailer which was simple and quaint. Except for the unmade bed, the trailer was neat and orderly.
“Oh fuck I’m sorry, were you asleep when I knocked?” She blushed and squeezed her palms together in an anxious gesture.
“Nah, I was just reading the script for a movie my agent wants me to do next.”
“Oh,” she nodded and turned her attention to the rack of costumes his character wore, “is it any good?”
“It's definitely interesting but I don’t think it’s t’e right film for me.” He sighed and sat on the edge of his bed. Cillian was wearing a plain t-shirt and pajama pants, and seeing the innocent-intimate side of his life made her want so desperately to kiss him. She sat on the small couch he had in the trailer and tried to smile.
“That’s too bad. Is it anything I’d like?” She joked and he nodded seriously.
“Actually, yeh. I’ll send it over once I’m through. I’ve been re-reading it.” He moved his hands through the air as he spoke, so unlike his characters. She almost laughed and he smiled.
“So, what can I do for you? You said you had some business to attend to. Sounds serious. Should I be worried?” He raised his eyebrow and crossed his legs, his hands cupped around the edge of the mattress. She tried to speak and immediately failed. Frustrated and embarrassed tears filled her eyes and she hid them by looking up at the ceiling. Cillian furrowed his brow, concerned.
“What’s wrong?” He leaned forward on the bed and she shook her head, laughing lightly at herself.
“I feel so incredibly stupid now for coming here.” She looked away and the bed squeaked softly as Cillian stood and joined her on the couch. She scooted over to give him some room and picked at the skin on her hands.
“You can always come to me. Whatever it is.” He said softly and the air around them stilled with anticipation.
“Oh don’t say that, Cillian. You’re so kind…” she started to cry and tried to hide her face.
“Fuck, I hate tears, please don’t cry! Did somet’ing happen?” He raised his hands helplessly, holding them over her without being sure what to do with them. She nodded her head slowly and hiccuped pitifully.
“You’ll have to forgive me for my comforting abilities. I’ve never been good on t’at front and I have boys so I’m better at comforting members of the male species.” He shrugged and smiled, trying to lighten the mood. She laughed despite herself and wiped her eyes. She stood and paced the front of the trailer, knowing that it was now or never.
“Cillian, this is such a horrible way to end your nice evening but I can’t continue on set without getting this off my chest. I hope you’ll forgive me.” She dared herself to look at him and he met her eyes, holding her eye-contact with mature resolve.
“Of course.” He nodded softly, wrinkling his forehead, now more concerned with what his costar was going to tell him. He was naive. He assumed she was going to tell him that she couldn’t work with him anymore or that something had happened in their scenes that had made her uncomfortable. He shifted uneasily on the couch, watching her. She tried to speak a few times but exhaled and shook her head. Cillian stood and met her where she was standing. He was a good few feet taller than her and so much older, but having him there beside her made the feelings she wanted to tell him about so much stronger.
“Cillian, this isn’t easy to say,” she looked down at her hands and then up into his clear blue eyes. “I have feelings for you, more than our professional relationship can offer. Working with you on set all this time has… it’s made my feelings so much harder to ignore, Cillian.”
He froze and remembered to breathe, drawing in a startled breath.
“T’at wasn’t what I was expecting you to say.” He ran his hand over his mouth and looked away, his blue eyes moving through his hidden thoughts.
“I know you probably don’t feel the same but I just… it’s driving me mad, Cillian. It’s becoming a form of method acting that isn’t fun anymore.” She tried to laugh lightly but grimaced and put the backs of her hands against her burning cheeks.
“Yeh…” he nodded and sighed, his eyes wide.
She groaned and returned to the couch, sitting on her sweaty hands.
“I can go, Cillian. I can leave if you don’t want me here anymore.” She whispered, tears pooling in her eyes.
“No, no. We need to talk t’rough this.” He said calmly, slowly, and covered his mouth with his freckled hand.
“Oh God, I’ve gone and fucked everything up. I’m sorry Cillian. I knew you didn’t feel the same but I still let myself go to you.” She leaned back against the couch and pulled her hands through her hair and pulled the skin back from her face.
“Stop it. Don’t say t'at.” Cillian snapped not unkindly but sternly and took a deep breath. “See, we need to talk about t’is so we can still work together, eh?” He ran a hand through his own dark hair and looked at her for a moment, thinking.
“How, Cillian? If you knew how I felt about you… it’s maddening. I can’t sleep, Cillian. You’re all I think about as pathetic as it sounds,” she took a deep breath, “I love you. And now you’ll hate me.” She continued and moved her hands, clasped together between her knees.
Cillian sighed and moved abruptly to her side on the couch, opening his body towards her.
“Don’t talk for me, eh? Look, I understand. It’s hard to not develop certain er… feelings when we do what we do, right?” He cocked his head to the side and licked his lips awkwardly.
“I know I’m childish, Cillian, but I can’t help it. I’m suffering without you… without more from you, more than we can do on set.” She whined and rubbed her shoulders as if she were cold. “Can you indulge me? Do you feel even a little of what I do?” She whispered, looking deeply into his eyes. He said nothing for a second before running his hands up and down his face, exhaling loudly into his palms. He put his hands down and leaned towards her on his elbows.
“I’m married, sweetheart. Yvonne is my wife and I love her.” He whispered softly, his hands splitting the space between them.
“But I love you.” She whispered back and leaned in to kiss him. He allowed her to kiss him once and when she pulled away, dejected, he took her chin gently.
“Cut the shit-delusion, sweetheart. You’re young… far too young for me. You may t’ink you love me but you don’t know me.”
He took her face in his hands and smiled sadly as tears rolled down her pink cheeks.
“I know you’ll find someone who truly loves you. You’re a beautiful young woman who has her entire life ahead of her. I’m flattered t'at you feel t’at way about me but we can’t, I can’t. If the roles were reversed and we were married and Yvonne approached me, wouldn’t you want me to stop t’ings before t’ey went too far?” He supported her head as she dropped it slightly to the side. She felt empty of words and so he continued.
“You’re a darling girl but you know we can’t do t’is.” He stroked her cheek with his thumb and wiped away her tears. “You need a boy your age who knows how to love you in the way you need to be loved. I only know how to love my wife… and she’s the only one who knows how to love me.”
“I could have loved you in whatever way you needed.” She whispered weakly and he smiled softly. “I know, sweetheart,” he soothed her like a father, “but you wouldn’t have been happy wit' me. You’re out of my league and you would have gotten bored of me.” He joked lightly and she allowed a pained smile to form on her lips.
“I’m sorry, Cillian. I feel like such a fool.” She closed her eyes and he hugged her close.
“Nah, you’re still a kid. You’re many t’ings but foolish is not one of ’em.” He squeezed her tightly and kissed her head affectionately. “You’re a good kid and a great actress. We’ll be fine, the two of us, eh?” He pulled away and she wiped her eyes dry.
“I’ll try.”
She kissed him briefly on the cheek and rose to her feet. She walked to the door and looked back at the actor with a small smile, the door open in front of her.
“Goodnight, Cillian.”
He nodded from the couch.
“Y/N?”
“Yes?”
Cillian stood and shoved his hands into the pockets of his pajama pants, shrugging his shoulders up to his ears.
“You weren’t the only one.... That is, you weren’t the only one who felt…” he broke off and cleared his throat, “but it's better t’is way, yeh?.... It’ll pass, love. It’ll pass.”
He met her eyes one last time and she nodded sadly yet full of a completeness found in their mutual understanding.
“Goodnight, Cillian.” She said again and closed the door behind her and left the trailer, walking with her back to the wind. Cillian collapsed back on the couch and looked at his watch, wondering if Yvonne was awake. She always answered his calls. She put up with everything, God bless her. She was everything and more than he deserved. He rang her up and she answered after the second ring, her voice ringed with sleepiness.
"Heya, love." He whispered with a smile, "No, everyt'ing's fine. I just wanted to call you. I miss you, girl. Yeah, yeah. Put them on."

i realized that i hadn't said anything here so this is a bit belated but i'm super unhappy with the casting choices of tlou hbo, and just the general direction it's going toward.
in abby's case, it's been well-pointed out at this point her body type is a narrative device, a catalyst for showing just how her dedication and obsession with tracking joel down and killing him. i don't doubt that kaitlyn dever will be working out for this role but i can only imagine she'll end with a sort of lean muscular physique that will hardly illustrate the point of the body type, rather than one that takes fat into consideration. dever is far too small to achieve it, and what's more is, i think it's super unethical to bank on someone working out in order to fit a role. the announcement of the casting came about a month after the trailer for that new kristen stewart movie, the one where she falls for a bodybuilder, came out. there are fully actresses who lift and bodybuilder and have similar body types, and yet their choice leaves us wanting.
dina's case feels a lot more sacrilegious. isabel merced isn't jewish, nor has any of dina's defining features. granted, i'm well-aware that neither cascina caradonna, her face model, nor shannon woodward, her voice actor, are jewish, but i feel like this is what made the casting choice matter all the more. dina's a character whose heritage matters to her character, and there was such a clear chance to have her be portrayed by a jewish actor.
like a lot of people, i think that they chose the more palatable route, considering the massive backlash against both abby's body type and dina's more prominent features, which is both incredibly sad to see but also infuriating. particularly with the issue of neil druckmann's batting for jewish rep under the veil of his allegiance with israel. i obviously can't speak for the feelings of jewish fans but i imagine to pull the rug out from underneath us on a character that he has said is a connection to his jewish like this would be like spit in the face.
the whole thing has just made me disinterested with season 2 of tlou hbo. there are already issues with the games' representation of people of color, and seeing as i could tell there was a small (i cannot stress how miniscule) attempt to "fix it, i'd held out hope prior to this but...no.
IN ALL HONESTY, i'd already been content to not engage with s2. i was skeptical enough from the get-go when it was announced, but truth be told, too many red flags are cropping up. obviously, there's the zionist stuff that i think, right now especially, literally everyone can do without (though i'm sure neil and craig are rubbing their hands together over how the people NEED a great "both sides are bad, completely and totally biased view of the conflict in palestine" story), but even to like pirate is a no-go for me.
all of this to say, since i've already gotten some people asking, you shouldn't expect me to draw or indulge in any of the content from it.

We are not making sense at all
written for the Spicy Six Winter Fanworks Challenge by @thefreakandthehair
Rating: General Relationship: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson Prompt: Warm Soup WT: Pre-relationship, sickfic, sick character(s), Christmas 1985 WC: 5108
Tumblr media
Christmas was never Eddie's favorite holiday, it always reminded him how lonely he was: no family to spend the holiday with, only Wayne who usually worked at Christmas for the double pay. A few times Gareth parents have tried to invite him but he always declined the invitation and buried himself in his trailer, watching silly Christmas movies, eating chips, and drinking beer on the couch like his old man. What a legacy, right?
But this time is even worse: not only he is home alone, but he is also sick. The metalhead has done his best to hide it from Wayne but now that he is finally alone he can’t stop coughing and sneezing and the floor of the trailer is covered in crumpled tissues that he is too tired to throw in the bin, while his neighbors are celebrating playing some Christmas music so loud that the trailer is almost vibrating. He can’t really complain, after all, he is used to playing metal music so he assumes he can endure hearing Jingle Bells for the umpteenth time: what he really can’t stand is the phone that keeps ringing. It seems that every person who knows him has decided to call him to wish him a Merry Christmas, which is probably fair, it’s Christmas after all, but all Eddie would like to do is nap on the lumpy couch while watching some stupid movies about Santa Claus or any other Christmas Miracle. His favorite movie is Little Lord Fauntleroy: even if he is too old to still indulge in such fantasies, he still dreams that one day a rich parent will reach out to him, telling him that he searched for him for years and that he is actually super rich and he can leave Hawkins whenever he wants.
He will take Wayne with him, of course, and he will miss the Corroded Coffin and the Party, but the Corroded Coffin are destined to split up as soon as Gareth and Jeff go to college so he doesn’t feel too bad at the idea of abandoning them.
But that’s just a fantasy.
Eddie coughs again, while the stupid phone keeps ringing; when he finally gathers the strength to stand up and get to the phone, Dustin’s happy voice wishes him Merry Christmas, asking him how is he going to spend it and telling him that if he wants he can still join him and his family.
Eddie sighs, Dustin doesn’t have a huge family either, it’s just him, his mum, and probably Steve Harrington, and not only he doesn’t want Dustin’s pity, but he is pretty sure he doesn’t want to spend Christmas with Harrington either. And he is sick, which is the perfect excuse to finally shut up the little shrimp.
“Thank you Dustin, but I’m feeling a little bit under the weather, I don't want you to catch any of my germs.” He says, coughing for good measure.
“Oh no! Being sick at Christmas is the worst! One year I got sick and I had to spend Christmas in bed, it was awful! Thankfully Santa still brought me some toys and I could play a little in the afternoon when I felt a little bit better, but waking up with a fever on Christmas day is no fun!” he tells him “Do you need anything? I could ask Steve to drive me to the trailer! I have a few comics that you haven’t read yet.”
“Don’t worry, I’m good, I just need to sleep a little and I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure? I’m sure Steve will not mind.”
In which world Harrington will not mind getting to the Freak’s trailer on Christmas to bring him some comics?
Eddie chuckles, pretty sure that not only he would mind but he would be really pissed, even if probably he’ll do it if Dustin asks him to. It’s incredible how that little shrimp has both of them wrapped around his finger like two stupid puppets, but no, thanks, Eddie still has enough self-respect “I’m good, I swear. Thank you for offering.”
“If you are sure…” Dustin finally agrees, even if he doesn’t sound one hundred percent sure about it.
After the call Eddie decides to unplug the phone and gets back to his couch, ready to spend the rest of the day napping and watching television.
***
He must have dozed off for longer than he thought because when he opens his eyes he doesn’t even know what he is watching on the television and the room is way darker than it was. For a moment he wonders if he woke up on his own, but then he hears the insistent knocking on the trailer door and finally gets up to open the door.
“Did you forget the keys, old man?” Eddie asks, convinced that Wayne is the one knocking, but he freezes when he sees that the person on the other side of the door is nothing less than Steve Harrington, fallen school king, ex-jock and richest boy in town.
“Hi.” He says, smiling, holding a Tupperware in his hands “Henderson said you are not feeling well.” But when Eddie doesn’t move he chuckles “Will you let me in or what?”.
Eddie moves from the door and lets the Harrington’s boy enter his trailer. As soon as he turns toward the living room he understands that there is no way he can hide how messy he is: there is a pile of tissues all over the floor, and the remains from his breakfast are still on the kitchen table.
“I… I…” he tries to come up with an excuse but Steve simply smiles.
“It’s ok. You are not feeling well.” He replies, getting closer to the kitchen “Can I have a pot, please?”
Eddie nods and gives him the only clean one that he finds and, even if it’s way bigger than needed, Steve takes it and pours the content of his Tupperware into the pot.
“Claudia made it?” Eddie asks, smelling the tasty soup that Steve is heating.
“Nope. It’s my nonna recipe. It’s a foolproof method against the cold.” He tells him.
“Your nonna made it?”
“Well, the recipe is her, but she died almost ten years ago so I’m the one who actually cooked it. I’m sorry it took a bit, but you can’t rush perfection, right?” Steve smirks and Eddie stares at him, astonished.
“That’s really kind but… why are you doing this?”
Steve shrugs “You know Dustin, right? He was worried about you and made me promise that I would check on you and I agreed.”
“And the soup?”
“It does wonder, you’ll see.” He promises, stirring the soup while Eddie sits on the chair, watching Steve move around with ease: the trailer’s kitchen is really small but Steve seems to find everything he needs even if he has never been there before.
“How can I help you?” Eddie finally asks, feeling like a guest in his own room.
“Can you give me a couple of bowls?” Steve asks, then turns, bushing “Sorry, I just assumed it was ok with you if I eat here but I just realized that I should have asked.”
“No… it’s fine. You cooked, so the least I can do is offer you a bowl and a spoon.”
If the smell isn’t enough, the taste is absolutely delicious, and Eddie is very vocal about how much he likes it, singing Steve’s praises.
“It’s just a warm soup.” He tells him, avoiding Eddie’s stare and preparing a bowl for Wayne to reheat in the microwave.
“It’s absolutely delicious!” Eddie insists. Wayne is a kind man but he is no cook and all they are used to eating are pre-made dinners that he heats in the microwave, so eating a magical soup that will nurse him back to health is something really special to Eddie.
“I’m glad you liked it.” Steve says, cleaning the bowls and what was left from breakfast before Eddie can stop him.
“Would you like to watch a movie with me?” Eddie proposes, then he suddenly feels ashamed “Sorry, I’m sure you have better things to do than staying here with me. You already brought me the soup… and I don’t want you to catch whatever my illness so please ignore me… I don’t know why I asked you…”
“It’s fine. I have a very strong immune system and I don’t have anywhere to be, to be honest: Robin is at his Uncle’s home and I told Dustin that I was coming here so my choices are watching a movie with you or at my place.”
“No date for King Steve?”
Steve chuckles “No, no date Eddie.”
It’s the first time Steve calls him Eddie and it sounds nice.
They sit together on Eddie’s little couch, their knees bump when they sit and Eddie laughs awkwardly, embarrassed to be so close to King Steve “All the movies I have are either western or horror movies, I fear.” He says, kneeling on the floor to look at the pile of VHS.
“It’s fine, I work in a video store, and I’m used to watching every kind of movie.” Stevee replies, making himself comfortable.
They are halfway through an old western when Eddie turns toward Steve, his profile is lit up by the black-and-white movie on the screen.
“Hey, Steve.”
“Mmh?”
“Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.”
***
Somewhere between the second half of the movie, Eddie must have fallen asleep, because when he opens his eyes he is lying on the couch and there is no trace of Harrington anywhere.
For a moment he wonders if he might have dreamed of him, but his Tupperware is still on the kitchen counter and Wayne is eating the soup.
“Nice boy.”
“Uh?”
“Steve, I think? Chestnut hair and kind smile?”
“Oh, yeah. He came because he knew I was sick.”
Wayne nods “As I said. Nice guy. And good cook.” He concludes, eating his soup.
Eddie nods, getting up and going to sit next to Wayne.
“Are you feeling any better?”
“Much better, actually. Steve said it’s the soup. It has some magical properties.”
“Bet it does.” The old man replies, ruffling Eddie’s hair “You know you can tell me anything, right boy?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
Wayne nods and turns to clean his bowl.
“What? What are you implying?” Eddie asks, confused.
“Nothing. I’m going to bed, do you want to keep watching the television?”
Eddie shakes his head and goes to bed, still wondering how was it possible that King Steve came to his rescue.
***
Two days later Dustin is at Eddie’s door.
“What?” Eddie asks annoyed, he is not used to waking up so early when he doesn’t have to go to school, that’s what holidays are for: sleep.
The boy gives him a very serious look before saying “It’s Steve.”
“What about him?”
“I called him and he didn’t answer.”
Eddie sighs “Dustin, he is a young boy, he is probably dating someone and he slept at their place, that’s what older boys do. Now go home and don’t bother me again.”
“No. Not Steve.”
Eddie snorts “If there is someone who is going on dates is definitely your friend Harrington.”
“You don’t get it, Steve always answers. Always. Especially if I call him on the walkie! But he didn’t! Neither yesterday nor today.”
Eddie sighs, pinching his nose “And what do you want me to do?”
“I want you to go to Steve’s house: you can pick a lock, right?”
“What?! I’m not going to risk two years for break and enter because Harrington fell asleep after fucking someone!” Eddie protests, crossing his arms and glaring at the kid.
“It’s not like that! We just have to be sure he is fine! Robin is not here or I would have asked her! Steve doesn’t have anyone else: just the two of us.” He says seriously and Eddie can’t suppress a smile.
“You are serious, aren’t you?”
“I definitely am.”
Eddie sighs “Ok, I’ll go check on your babysitter, but I want you to go back home, ok?”
“What if he needs help? He had two concussions in the past, I know how to help him and…”
“If he needs that kind of help I’ll drag him to the hospital, but I’m sure he’ll be out with some pretty girl and if you really want me to pick the lock of the richest house in town I don’t want any kid around, is that clear?”
“But…”
“Is that clear?”
Dustin nods, unconvinced, and then glares at Eddie “You call me the moment you find him, ok?”
“I’m telling you he won’t be there.”
“I’m telling you he will be, I checked and his car was parked in front of his house!”
Eddie raises his arms with a sigh “Ok, fine, I’ll call you, ok? Now go, and don’t bike here again! It’s dangerous.”
Dustin nods and gets back to his bike yelling “Call me, Eddie!” one more time before biking back toward his home.
Eddie sighs, gets back inside, puts on his leather jacket, and takes the van keys before driving toward Harrington’s house.
When he gets to Loch Nora he sees Steve’s BWM parked right in front of the house, as Dustin said.
Eddie rings the bell and knocks on the door until his knuckles hurt but none comes open.
“Harrington?” he calls, moving around the house to find an easy way to get in without breaking a window or picking a lock in the middle of the day. He tries every window until he sees that one window on the second floor is ajar. Cursing himself for his poor gymnastic skill, somehow he manages to climb toward the window and get inside, landing on the floor with a loud thump.
The room he is in is definitely Steve’s, even if the boy is nowhere to be seen and the bed is still perfectly made. Eddie moves around the other rooms but Steve is nowhere to be seen, so he gets to the living room to call Dustin to tell him that Steve is probably outside, having the time of his life, when he sees a figure wrapped in so many blankets that looks like a cocoon.
“Harrington?” he calls, and a pitiful voice answers him back.
Eddie runs down the stairs and gets closer to the boy “Hey, Harrington, are you ok?” he asks, but he can feel how hot Steve is even under all the blankets.
“Fuck. I think you got my virus.” Eddie curses, and Steve sneezes as a confirmation “Ok, don’t worry, I’m going to take care of you, ok big boy? Do you have some fever medicine somewhere?”
“Bathroom…” Steve murmurs in a small voice, and Eddie runs upstairs to the bathroom and comes back with a few medicines and a thermometer.
He takes Steve’s temperature, which is way too high, and tries to suggest calling a doctor, but Steve is adamant he doesn’t want to, so all that Eddie can do is help him sip some water and take a few pills.
When Steve falls asleep the older boy calls Dustin, informing him that Steve is sick but that he doesn’t have to worry because he will take care of him and he does, the metalhead helps him drink some hot tea, go to the bathroom and finally convince him to go to sleep in his bed and not on the couch.
“Can I call your parents?” Eddie asks, changing the wet towel on Steve’s forehead.
“They are in Paris. Or Rome. Don’t remember.”
“I can’t leave you alone like that.”
“I’m fine.”
“No, you are not. Tell me who I can call to keep an eye on you or I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
Steve murmurs something that sounds like “Hopper” but Eddie knows that the chief died in the fire at the mall a few months before “I’m serious, Steve. You can’t be left alone like this.”
But the boy is already asleep, so he sighs and goes back to the living room to call Wayne.
“Hey, Wayne.”
“Kid? You ok?”
“Yeah. I’m at Harrington. I think he got my virus but much worse. Do you mind if I keep an eye on him? He is home alone.”
“Not at all, just pay attention.”
“I got sick before, I’m not going to get sick again.”
“That’s not what I’m talking about.” Wayne whispers and Eddie frowns, confused, but doesn’t comment.
When he gets in the kitchen to make himself a sandwich he sees Steve’s nonna recipe on the kitchen table and decides to try to make it.
Eddie has never cooked before in his life, but the instructions are pretty easy: he follows them step by step, and an hour later the same smell of warm soup fills the air. He takes a couple of bowls and gets back to Steve’s room.
“Steve? Wake up. Stevie, come on. You have to eat something.” He tells him while he gently shakes Steve to wake him.
“Mum?” the boy asks with feverish eyes.
“Just me, Eddie.”
“Oh. Eddie. Sorry.”
“Nothing to be sorry about, you were probably dreaming, am I right?”
The younger boy nods, then looks at the bowl that the metal head is offering him “Is it…?”
“It is. Or at least I think it is. I followed the instructions step by step.” He replies, helping Steve sit up and giving him the spoon, but the boy is shaking so much that Eddie quickly resolves to spoon-feed him, slowly.
“So much for your strong immune system, uh?” the metalhead mocks him, cleaning Steve’s lips with a napkin.
“I’m sorry…”
“Stop saying you are sorry. You are sick and you need a little bit of help, it’s ok to need help sometimes, you know that, right?”
“Shouldn’t. I’m a Harrington.” He replies, covering his eyes with an arm.
“What the hell does that mean? Sorry to break it to you, but you are human, like everyone else.” Eddie tells him, tucking his blankets.
“It’s just a cold.”
“Yeah, I don’t think so, but even if it was you have the right to feel like shit and have someone take care of you.” Eddie insists, giving him some water and a couple of pills to lower his fever “And if by tomorrow you are not feeling any better I’m going to call a doctor, even if you don’t like it.”
“I had the soup. I’ll be alright.” Steve replies convinced, his eyes half closed, and Eddie lets him fall asleep, he is not sure Steve will feel better in the morning, but even if he doesn’t he is not going to let him be alone in that big house, he will probably call Dustin’s mum, or Wayne, or some other adult that really knows how to take care of a sick person, for the moment he sits on the floor of Steve’s bedroom, watching his chest rise and fall like and hawk.
***
Maybe it was the soup, as Steve insists, or maybe Steve’s fever just broke on his own with the help of a few pills, but the next day the rich boy looks way better than the night before.
“Told you. That soup is magic. Thank you for  cooking it for me.”
“I guessed your mum cooked it for you every time you got sick, uh?” Eddie asks, giving him the cup of tea he already prepared for him. No coffee or milk after you have been unwell, it’s a core part of Munson’s doctrine.
“Nah. Just my nonna. But she was Italian, so she wasn’t around often.” Steve replies, thanking him for the tea, and sipping it slowly.
“Well, my mum wasn’t around either, but Wayne did his best to make up for it.” Eddie replies, eating some eggs.
“He seems like a good man. We had a little chat when you were feeling under the weather.”
“I’m surprised he didn’t try to scare you away with his rifle.” Eddie snorts.
“He actually did. Or at least he threatened me that he would have taken the rifle if I didn’t leave, but after I clarified that I wasn’t a thief and that there was some soup for him he became really nice.” Steve sips some more tea and then he asks “How did you know I was feeling unwell?”
“Henderson. He can be really annoying, or persuasive, it depends, in any case he insisted that someone had to check on you. He actually asked me to break into your house! Luckily for me, there was a window ajar in your bedroom and I got in from there.”
Steve smiles “Yeah, Dustin can be annoying but I love him, and don’t laugh at me, I know he is just a kid, but he is like a little brother to me.”
“Yeah. I get it, I think I feel the same, even if I must confess that I was fucking jealous of Steve Harrington. You have no idea how many times he mentions you every day! Steve did that, Steve said this, Steve is going to drive me here and there… Every day he talks about you! You are his fucking hero!”
Steve scoffs, blushing so softly and Eddie can’t avoid wondering if he would blush so sweetly even under the sheets “Dustin and I have some history. I helped him with some… projects. That’s all. I’m not the super cool Dungeon Master that plays his stupid game.”
“Hey! That’s not a stupid game! It’s really hard to be a good DM!” Eddie complains, crunching another cookie and letting the crumbles fall everywhere.
Steve’s hands twitch, getting a towel to clean the table, but in the end, he desists and keeps drinking his tea.
“I don’t doubt it. Dustin tried to explain it to me but I’m too stupid to understand it.” Steve says, avoiding Eddie’s stare, but the metalhead reaches for his hand.
“Hey, you are not stupid. The game it’s complicated, but if you want I can teach you.”
Steve chuckles “Thanks but if I couldn’t understand it on a good day I doubt I’ll understand it today.”
“Still feeling shitty?”
“Not too bad but, yeah, I think I have been better.”
Eddie clicks his tongue “Do you think you’ll be alright if I get back to the trailer? I can be back in the evening but I don’t want Wayne to worry.”
“There is no need for you to come back tonight, I’m feeling so much better.”
“And renounce the opportunity to see cable television on such a huge screen?” Eddie smirks and Steve nods.
“Ok, you can hang out at my place for the holidays if that’s what you were thinking, but I’ll have to go back to work tomorrow or Keith will definitely fire me.”
Eddie agrees, but before leaving he reminds Steve that he is going to get back in the evening “Do you think you’ll feel good enough to have some pizza tonight? There is a new pizza place, Garreth says is sick but I have never been.”
Steve smiles and Eddie can’t help but smile back at him “Pizza sounds good, but no beer for me.”
“Got it!” Eddie replies, getting in the van and driving home.
***
In the evening Eddie goes back to Steve’s house with a couple of pizzas and a six-pack.
“Thank you Eddie but I told you that I wasn’t going to drink beer.”
“Oh, that’s for me.”
“All of them?”
“Yeah, are you judging me, Harrington?”
Steve shakes his head while they sit at the table.
“How was your day?” Eddie asks, taking a slice of pizza from the box with his hands and starting to eat it straight away.
“I dozed off on the couch and watched some old movies.” Steve replies, taking a plate to eat his pizza and Eddie feels immediately ashamed for his manners.
“Sorry…” he mumbles with his mouth still full but Steve just smiles.
“You are just like Dustin. I like that.”
“You like my lack of manners?”
“I like your freedom.” He replies, cutting the pizza with fork and knife, before eating a little piece “My mum was really fond of etiquette, I learned what was the right fork for each food before I was tall enough to get to the table on my own. I would have loved to eat some pizza with my hands, getting my face dirty with tomato sauce or whatever.”
“Oh… we can fix that.” Eddie replies, taking another piece and offering it to Steve “Come on, take it. Take and eat it: with your hands, as a huge fuck you to your family. How does it sound?”
Steve stares at the piece of pizza for a long time and finally takes it from Eddie’s hand, giving a tentative bite, and immediately covering his mouth with the other hand “It tastes better if you don’t cover your mouth.” Eddie winks and Steve lowers his hand, showing a little smudge of tomato sauce on the side of his lips that Eddie cleans with his thumb, before licking it without even thinking about it.
It’s only when he feels Steve freeze that he realizes what he has done and whitens “Fuck. I’m sorry. Wayne used to do it with me and…”
“It’s… it’s ok.” Steve replies, blushing, then he changes the argument “The pizza it’s tastier like this.” He confirms and Eddie beams.
“Told you. That’s part of the sacred Munson’s doctrine.”
“Tell me more about this doctrine.” Steve asks, while he takes another piece of pizza with his hands and Eddie talks about everything: about the game he loves so much, about the Theatre Room where they play, about his opinion on jocks and laundry baskets players “Present company excluded, obviously.”
“Obviously.”
The more Eddie talks with Steve, the more he finds out that the other boy is not half bad. They spend the day chatting and when it’s time for Eddie to get back to the trailer Steve offers him one of the guest rooms “It’s not safe letting you drive after all the beers you drunk.”
“That’s nothing, weren’t you the Keg King?”
“Once, now I’m a big brother and I worry. It’s part of the job description.”
“I’m older than you.” Eddie points out but Steve shrugs and guides him toward the guest room.
“Choose whatever you want.”
Eddie nods and chooses the first room he sees, but when Steve comes into the room to give him towels and toiletries, Eddie grins “Hey, Steve?”
“Uh?”
“What do you think Dustin would say if we became friends?”
“He will be happy, I think?”
“Maybe at the beginning… but I’m sure you know a lot of embarrassing stories about him, and I know a few too, so… what do you say if we exchange intel and we gang upon him?”
Steve smirks “Are you suggesting we torture the little shrimp? Together?”
“He deserves it!”
“He definitely does. He keeps mocking me for my beauty routine.”
Eddie snorts “Do you have a beauty routine?”
“Fuck you, Munson. I don’t want to exchange anything with you.”
“Sorry. Sorry. My fault. I will not mock you, pinkie promise.”
They share a look and then they shake hands.
“Come, sit here. I have so many stories to tell you.” Eddie says, scooting over to make space for Steve on the bed and the chestnut boys lies with him, exchanging stories about how Dustin lost his cat and somehow convinced him to search for it in the woods, while Eddie recalls the first time he saw him in the cafeteria with his signature thinking cap.
“That boy is something, isn’t he?” Eddie asks, and when he doesn’t hear a reply he turns toward Steve, only to find him asleep and gently snoring. He brushes some hair away from his face, covers them both with the blanket and falls asleep in Steve’s comfy bed.
***
One week later none expect it when, on the first day of school after the holidays, Steve goes to pick up Robin and Dustin, and the the jock and the metalhead hug in the parking lot as if they were best friends who haven’t seen each other in years.
“What the hell is happening?” Dustin asks, darting his eyes between the two of them.
Eddie puts an arm around Steve’s shoulder with ease “You wanted us to get closer, didn’t you, Dustin?”
“Yeah but…”
“Well, we did.” Steve concludes “Now get in the car before Robin and I lose another job!”
They are halfway toward Dustin’s house when Steve asks “So: is it true that you farted during the last campaign and you tried to pretend it was the chair?”
Robin snorts and Dustin freezes “It was the chair! And how do you know… oh no… oh no!” Dustin exclaims, his eyes wide with terror “Please, tell me that’s not true! Why did you have to talk about me!”
“You are the only thing Eddie and I have in common, we bonded thanks to you. Aren’t you happy?” Steve winks and Dustin is still grumbling something when Steve leaves him at his house, before driving Robin toward Family Video.
“So. You and Munson, uh?” the girl asks in a cautious way.
“Yeah. It’s nice to have a friend my age, you know?”
She punches Steve’s shoulder “I’m your age, dingus!”
“But you are a girl! He is a boy! It’s different.”
Robin glowers at him “Steven Joseph Harrington, did you replace me with Eddie the Freak Munson?”
“Never! You are my best friend. Eddie is just… different. It’s easy to talk with him, you know? And he is very funny, he makes me laugh a lot and we have a great time together.”
“Talking, uh? And what about Heidi?”
“Oh, we were supposed to go out on a date but Eddie wanted to hang out and… what? Don’t look at me like that!” Steve complains, turning into the Family Video parking lot.
Robin sighs, gets their uniforms from the back and sighs“I’m glad you finally found a special friend.”
“Come on. I just made him my nonna’s soup when he was sick. It’s not like it means something.”
Robin takes her uniform, but before closing herself in the bathroom to change she turns to say to him “If you are going to be kissed by a boy before I get kissed by a girl I’m going to be super pissed!”
And Steve stares at the bathroom door, confused, that’s not what it is! It’s just a friendship! Right?

Y/N still remembers the day she got the job offering to be a make-up artist with Marvel, it was such a big career move she even moved to New York City to be able to take it. Once she arrived on the set, she found out she would be the main make-up artist for both Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan, who she had both seen in a few movies before. The only thing that did really worry her, was the fact that she had a stutter, usually people didn't react to that all too well. Despite this, she decided to give this a chance because this could be the change she needed so bad in her life.
The first time you met both Sebastian and Chris was an absolute delight, they were incredibly nice. ''Hi g-g-guys, my n-name is Y/N, and I w-w-will be your makeup a-artist for now.'' you said, and your cheeks immediately turned a deep crimson color, and you really wished you could just run out of the make-up trailer and hide forever. ''Hey, I'm Sebastian!'' he said, and he decided not to comment on your stutter, he actually found it pretty cute. ''Hi, I'm Chris, it's really nice to meet you. I'm sorry and I don't mean to overstep, but do you have a stutter? It's completely fine if you do ofcourse!'' he asked, and you nodded, not wanting to embarrass yourself even more.
You did the boys' makeup and they were incredibly grateful, they asked all kinds of questions like where you are from, if you have siblings, stuff like that. ''W-w-well, I'm from a small t-t-town in Florida, w-where I lived with my ex b-b-boyfriend for a few years, and now I l-live here in New Y-York City, by myself. I s-s-sadly don't have siblings, but I h-h-have a three year old son n-named J-J-James.'' you said with a big smile on your face, thinking about your little boy. You don't see his dad anymore because he left after he found out you're pregnant, and he didn't want any of the responsibility.
''Want to know a little secret?'' Sebastian asked you, and you nodded. ''My character in these movies is also called James. I have a feeling this is completely meant to be!'' he said with a smirk and he let out a chuckle, you laughed as well. You have a feeling you would get really get along well with Sebastian, as well as Chris, because they both make you laugh and feel good, so you don't have to worry about your stutter. ''A-A-Allright guys, you're both ready. Have a good d-d-day on set today!'' you said and you started cleaning up your makeup kit for now, so you would have a clean space to work off of if they needed to be touched up.
The next few weeks were great, and you got to know both Chris and Sebastian pretty well, but there was this undeniable friendship between you and Sebastian. He never said anything about your stutter, but always carefully listened to what you had to say. He never interrupted or finished your sentences, which is something you absolutely hated, and it felt like a relief that he didn't do it. ''S-Seb? I want to say thank y-y-you for being so patient w-with me and my s-s-stutter. It is a r-r-relief that you don't interrupt me or fill in w-what I want to s-say.'' you say with a little flush on your cheeks. ''Ofcourse doll, I know how much it bothers you that people do that, but it doesn't take much effort to just be patient. Besides, I love hearing what you have to say!''
You were so grateful to hear him say that, it felt great to have someone in your life who didn't fill everything in for you, you can think and talk for yourself thank you very much. By the time the end of filming rolled around, you really got close with Sebastian, and you often ended up talking in his trailer for a little while before going home, where you talked about everything and nothing, the good and the bad. James was usually at daycare, but when he got very sick during the day, you had to go there in a hurry. By the time you got to your car you found it had a flat tire, and you didn't know what to do. ''Want me to drive you? I'm done shooting for today anyway!'' Sebastian offered and you happily agreed.
''Oh b-b-baby, what's going on? Are y-you okay?'' you asked James when you saw him. He was very pale and warm, definitely spiking a fever. ''He ate his lunch, but sadly he didn't keep it down and he got sick. He has been spiking a fever for a little bit, but it doesn't seem to go down. We're so sorry we had to call you out of your work!'' the lady at the daycare said, but you said it's fine. ''Hey buddy, are you feeling sick?'' Sebastian asked, looking worried at your son. He nodded slightly and he started crying, so you really had to go to the pharmacy and pick something up in order to bring down his fever. ''I'm s-s-sorry, but we really need t-t-to go now. H-Have a good day!'' you said. ''Yeah, you too and again, I'm so sorry!'' the lady said.
Both you and Sebastian hurried back to his car, you sat in the backseat this time, with James on your lap trying to comfort him a little bit. ''It's o-okay buddy, we'll get you s-something for your fever, and you'll f-f-feel better in no time!'' you said to him, softly stroking his cheek while giving soft kisses on his head. ''Sebastian w-w-will drive to the pharmacy and get you s-something to feel better, okay?'' you said, with tears welling up in your own eyes, because you hated to see him in this much distress, you absolutely despised seeing how bad he was feeling. Most of all, you hated the fact that you had to go through this alone, since your ex left you during the pregnancy.
Sebastian arrived at the pharmacy and went in after you told him what to get for James, so you could stay with him in the car. ''Here you go, James!'' he said when he came back, and he brought some of your favorite snacks as well, to make you feel a little better. He drove all three of you to your apartment, and you invited Sebastian in. ''Oh no, it's okay, really! I should really go, if I come with you I'll only be in the way of you taking care of this little guy.'' he said when he softly stroked James on his back with his big hand. ''It's okay S-Seb, really. I could use t-t-the company!'' and he agreed.
After a few hours you finally managed to get his fever down, and Sebastian was making dinner for the both of you so he was able to help. James didn't feel like eating yet, so you could always make him something simple later. ''Allright doll, dinners ready.'' he said, and he put down a delicious looking pasta salad, and your mouth started watering at the sight of it. ''Wow, i-it looks delicious!'' you say and you immediately put some on your plate. You realized you hadn't ate anything since breakfast, because it was hectic at work and when you got the call from the daycare, you completely forgot about lunch.
A few days later, you suddenly notice a lot of notifications on Twitter and Instagram, but you don't understand what it is all about. When you open Twitter, the first thing you see is '' Does Sebastian Stan have a new girlfriend? '' and you click on it. There are a couple of paparazzi photos of you, Sebastian and James from when he was sick, and Sebastian was there to help you both out. You get really nervous because of this, and decide to call Sebastian. ''Y/N? Is everything okay doll?'' he asked when he picked up after the second ring. ''S-S-Seb, have you seen the p-p-photos yet?'' you say and tears start to prick in your eyes. You were afraid that if he saw all the things they said, he didn't want to be friends anymore, you knew he didn't want a relationship for a while. Even though you were definitely not together, those thoughts still crossed your mind.
''Ah, you mean the ones where they say you're my girlfriend?'' he says with a sigh, he was hoping you wouldn't find out what the paparazzi said, since he knew how you felt about those people. ''It's okay doll, I have already put out a statement that I'm not in a relationship, but that we're just really great friends, that's all.'' he said, and you felt a bit relieved when he said that. You thank him and he asks how James is doing, since you had a few days off to take care of him. ''He's really d-d-doing great, and he has b-been asking about you! H-H-He wants to know where m-mommy's friend is, and asked i-i-if you wanted to come and p-play with him.'' you said with a smile, thinking about when James asked for Sebastian. ''Oh, I would absolutely love to come by later today. Is that okay? Maybe we can all go out to dinner together if he's feeling better!'' Sebastian suggested and you accepted his offer.
The three of you were on your way to dinner, and Sebastian got recognized by some fans who wanted to take a photo with him. He looked at you apologetically and asked if it was okay with you. ''Yeah, o-o-ofcourse!'' you said to him and stepped to the side with James, so you could give them space for a few photos. When the fans walked away you could hear them saying something about you stuttering, and you started to feel very self conscious again. ''Seb, m-m-maybe we should just reschedule. I'm s-sorry.'' you said, and James noticed the tears falling down your face. ''No mommy, no cyring! Mommy can't be sad!'' he said while wiping the tears away, which made you smile through the tears. ''Doll, it's okay. There's nothing to worry about, they don't know anything about you. If you want to go home that is okay and I will come with you, but if you still want to go to dinner I would love to go with the both of you.'' he said, holding your face in his hands. He gave you a kiss on the cheek to make you feel better, and you decided to go to dinner.
When it was time for the premier for Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian invited you to come along as his plus one. You gladly accepted, you could really use a night out for a change. The babysitter was more than happy to take care of your little bundle of joy, and you got to spend some quality time with Sebastian and the rest of the cast, who you've grown to love during the shooting of the movie. ''Hey Chris! H-how are you?'' you ask when you see Chris, you haven't seen him since the last day of shooting. ''I'm doing really great. I'm kind of nervous ofcourse, but I'll be fine! How are you and James doing?'' and you tell them about how we was sick a little while ago, but he is back to his old happy self now, and really growing up way too fast.
When it was time for the red carpet, Sebastian gently guided you there, and you both posed for some photos. ''Sebastian, how does it feel to have a girlfriend now?'' some people ask, and you are finally done with it. ''He's n-n-not my boyfriend! We're j-j-just really good friends!'' you say and you get angry, but instead of them stopping, they just started laughing and making fun of your stutter. ''Oh please, why would anyone listen to you? You can't even talk like a normal person!'' someone said, and this is what drove Sebastian over the edge this time. ''Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? There's nothing wrong with her stutter! She can't do anything about it, and it makes her special! It's too bad assholes like you can't seem to get that into that small brain of yours!'' he yells at the guy, and he storms off the red carpet with you closely behind.
''S-S-SEB, WAIT!'' you say, only earning more laughs behind you. You start walking slower and tears are streaming down your face, Sebastian then stops when he hears you sobbing. ''Oh god doll, I'm so sorry for what just happened. I know how you feel right now, and I am so sorry that happened to you.'' he said, and he wrapped his big arms around you to comfort you. ''I-I-It's okay, I'm used to it.'' you say in between your sobs, but it still hurts that they make fun of your stutter. ''No doll, it's not okay, and someone had to set the record straight. I think you're absolutely perfect, and you didn't deserve that. No one deserves to be treated like that.'' he said in your hair whilst he kept holding and soothing you.
''I-I-I'm sorry. I should just go h-home...'' you say and you let go of Sebastian, but he doesn't want to hear any of it. ''Doll, how about we get you cleaned up in the bathroom real quick, and we will just enjoy the rest of the evening with our friends? You really deserve a night out, and those assholes can just fuck right off to where they came from!'' he said, earning a light chuckle from you. ''Okay, b-b-but you can't c-come into the bathroom w-with me!'' you say and the two of you make your way over there. Whilst you walk into the bathroom Sebastian goes to get you a glass of champagne and hands it to you when you walk out of the bathroom. ''T-t-thank you again, Seb. This m-means the world to m-m-me.'' you say and you give him another hug, and this time you give him a light kiss on his cheek, making him blush a little where your kiss just touched him. ''I love you, doll.'' he said. ''I l-l-love you too, S-Seb.''

SEOKJIN:
The whole time you'd been on the red carpet Jin had been practically jumping up and down on the spot waiting to go inside so that the two of you could watch the movie together. Ever since you'd started filming you'd kept the entire thing a secret from him until the trailer dropped, he'd had no idea you were going to be playing a character that was a complete badass.
When you finally emerged from the cinema Jin's mouth was hanging open and he was shocked by everything that had happened on the screen.
"You doing okay? Was it bad?" Your insecurities got the better of you as you took his silence in a bad way but Jin shook his head and stared at you,
"Bad?! The only thing that was bad was that it ended!" He yelled out excitedly making you giggle a little as he began to list off all of his favourite scenes that you'd been in and then he began to tell you how much he loved it.
"I'm going to buy a ticket for every night this week," He tells you with a smirk, going to the counter and order tickets for each night while you groaned at him not to.

YOONGI:
Whenever Yoongi had a chance to come and visit you on set he would, he didn't want to pass up an opportunity like this to see his partner in action.
"I suggest you take a giant step back," Your voice was stern and cold and it made Yoongi smirk, seeing you acting so out of your own skin but it was completely hot and captivating to see.
"And if I don't?" Your co-worker asked while smirking at you, within seconds you retrieved a gun from your thigh garter and pointed it in his direction,
"I'll show you right between the eyes," You smirked before the guy took a step back, you pulled the trigger and a small popping sound sounded and the director yelled cut. As soon as the cameras were off you began laughing softly and rushing straight over to your boyfriend and wrapped your arms around him,
"Your duality is incredible." Yoongi chuckled as he kissed your cheek softly, you pulled away slowly and smirked at him.
"I thought you couldn't come today?"
"I wasn't going to miss you acting like a bad guy in a movie." He whines out as you both head to your changing room on set as he asked you to do some more scenes like that for him so that he could watch.
Tumblr media
HOSEOK:
Hoseok had been completely supportive of your acting career when you first told him that you wanted to do it and he'd even helped you get your first role. It wasn't anything big but you were doing a major action scene for one of the scenes you were included in and Hoseok was with you day in and day out helping you practice every line that you had until the time came for you to be on set.
"You ready?" The director asked with a small smile playing on his lips, you'd just walked over to him after getting into your costume and makeup and you were nervous but ready for this more than anything else in the world. If it wasn't for Hoseok you didn't think you would be ready for this,
"More than ready, Hobi has been helping me for weeks." You admitted as you glanced over to your boyfriend who was smiling proudly at you from the sidelines,
"Can't wait to see what you can do." The director chuckled before you headed onto the set and began to get ready for the first scene, you let out a nervous breath and searched for Hoseok who nodded at you in a silent sign of encouragement. With him, you knew you'd get through all of this with ease.
The whole thing had left Hoseok completely stunned, while you'd practised together he'd never been able to get the full effect until now and he was stunned by how fantastic you were at everything.
Tumblr media
NAMJOON:
Namjoon loved every single role that you took on in your acting career and you had always been cast in loveable romance dramas, you'd never had a chance to show people another side of your acting but this was finally your chance and it had left everyone shook. Namjoon hadn't been able to shut up about it since he'd watched the film and he was completely left god-smacked after one of the scenes in particular.
"So, how did you do it?" Namjoon asked as you sat across from him at the dinner table one night, you frowned wondering what they were talking about and your eyes locked onto your husband who showed his phone screen to you. Sitting on the screen was your face in one of your favourite scenes,
"I was attached to a bunch of strings and harnesses," You let out a small laugh at the thought of it all. It was one scene where you had to be kicked out of a glass window only for your character to land on top of a jet that was coming to save them.
"Was it a real jet? Did you actually get to film scenes on it?" Namjoon was like a kid close to Christmas constantly asking his parents what he got for Christmas and it made you smile to know he wanted to know all of the details.
"The jet wing was real but the rest of CGI and a greenscreen," You admitted before grabbing your phone and showing him some of the behind-the-scenes photos you'd taken whilst on set some of the days.
Tumblr media
JIMIN:
Jimin constantly bragged to everybody he could find about how incredible you were in the drama. It wasn't a major role but you had been cast as one of the main bad characters within a drama and you'd had to film a lot of scenes where you were evil. Including one scene where you'd had to pretend to kill someone,
"My favourite part," Jimin yelled out as your scene came on, your character stood inside a dark room with someone tied up in the chair in front of them before your voice called out to the main character of the show.
"Love is overused, so many people throw the word around when it means nothing to them," Jimin said along with your character on the screen before loud and dramatic music sounded and your character was covered in blood. As soon as the scene ended Jimin quickly replayed it making everyone inside the room groan at him, and you didn’t blame them since he’d replayed it about six times.
"Jimin baby, I think they've had enough," You whispered while kissing his shoulder and making him pout a little, all he wanted to do was show how much he loved your acting.
"I want them to love it as much as me," He admits before you let out a small giggle at the thought of it. It was incredibly sweet of him,
"Its' sweet baby but if you love it that's enough for me." You told him before he kissed you softly and sweetly.
Tumblr media
TAEHYUNG:
Taehyung had asked for a copy of your script weeks ago and you had no idea why until right now, you'd just walked downstairs and he was smirking over at you.
"Taehyung?" You questioned slowly, wondering why your boyfriend was suddenly smirking at you so much.
"You should know my name by now. We've been working against one another for a long time now Alex." A shiver ran down your spine at the way he said your characters name and you instantly knew which scene he was acting out with you,
"Carlos! How did you find me?" You did your best not to giggle as you moved closer to him, your bodies stopping close to one another.
"It's not that hard to find someone like you," He chuckles deeply, putting his hands on your hip and drawing you into him so that you were chest to chest with each other.
"You're supposed to be in prison," You hissed out, slapping your hands away when they began to reach down to your ass. Within seconds Taehyung was pressed against the wall behind him with your hand against his throat - not doing anything just in a place where a fake knife would be for the scene.
"Is this why you wanted the script?" You questioned while laughing, stepping away from Taehyung who was now blushing a deep red colour and nodding his head at you.
"I thought it could be fun and it was." He admits before bringing you close and kissing you deeply.
Tumblr media
JUNGKOOK:
Jungkook wanted to learn everything you had been training to do for the last year and a half. Ever since you'd been cased in a movie where your character had to use a sword you'd been training with professionals so that you didn't end up hurting yourself or others that were going to be on set even though the ones you were using weren't going to be real for fighting scenes.
"You have to keep your back straight the entire time, you need good posture." You told Jungkook as you gently ran your hand over his back to help him straighten it and get into position. As soon as he was ready you smirked and stepped away from him, drawing out your wooden sword and holding it up for him.
"You ready?" You asked, arching your eyebrow as he nodded his head at you.
"More than ready," He chuckled before the two of you began to play fight with the swords, moving around the garden as you did some of the twists and turns you had to do on set until it ended with you "stabbing" Jungkook - When in reality you had put your wooden sword between his arm and his side and he dramatically died on the floor in front of you.
"See, that was fun." He laughs looking up at you as you stood over him laughing to yourself.
"I felt like captain hook and peter pan." You admitted, helping your boyfriend to his feet before the two of you went again.

Harry Styles was playing a show in Los Angeles that night and, like anyone would have imagined, a bunch of famous and very well-known people came to see him, including Y/N Y/L/N. She was the moment, a celebrity whose face was currently everywhere, and her status was the one that helped her meet Harry a few months back.
Both of them got invited to the same Gucci event and after some talking, a lot of wine and giggles, they hit it off. They exchanged numbers, texted for a while and, when they both happened to be in the same city a couple of weeks later, they went on their first date. After that one came many more, until they made it official: Harry Styles and Y/N Y/N/L were now a couple, but that was a secret only their families and close friends knew about.
Neither of them wanted the public to know, at least not yet. They were well aware of the media attention they would start getting if that happened, and neither of them were very into that anyway. So for the public, they were just two successful and talented people who occasionally were seen hanging out together with the same group of friends.
They even had to pretend that night, when her and some other celebrities were backstage with Harry as he greeted them and got ready to perform in a few minutes. Although, to be fair, neither Y/N nor Harry had to try hard to ignore each: just a couple of hours before, they had got into an argument they hadn't been able to solve just yet.
The tension between them was palpable to those who knew them; for the rest of the world it seemed like they just didn't have much in common to talk about now that they were in the same room together, which was definitely far from true.
Harry's jaw immediately clenched the moment he saw him, out of all people, entering the room and approaching her, his hand in her back as he leaned in to kiss her cheeks.
"This has to be a fucking joke," Harry groaned to himself, deadly staring at Tom Hiddleston for the way he was talking, smiling and touching Y/N.
The main reason of their argument was now in the same room as they were, and Harry had to pretend to be fixing his outfit to try detach his gaze off of them both and keep his fists busy; he wanted to clench them so bad from the anger he was feeling.
Y/N was about to start filming a new movie and Tom was her co-star. Harry had seen the way he looked at her and shamelessly flirted with her every time she and Tom were together; he could sense his intentions even from afar. Hiddleston wanted his girl, and even if Y/N denied it, Harry knew he was right.
Of course he wanted her, she was just something else. Definitely out of this world, and he was scared anyone could come into her life and take her from him. Not that she was his property, but he was very into her and couldn't imagine losing her.
When the argument started just a few minutes before people started coming into the backstage, Y/N was talking about how excited she was for filming to start and how incredibly unbelievable was that she was starring in a movie alongside Tom Hiddleston. Harry started getting grumpy and didn't match her energy at all, which caused her to get pissed at him and accused him of not being supportive of her and her work, specially since she had been thrilled for all his success from the moment he released his third album and the trailers of his upcoming movies came out.
Harry wanted to show such excitement because she deserved nothing less than that, but whenever he thought of who her co-star was, he instantly felt sick to his stomach.
His last straw was the moment Tom passed an arm around her shoulders right in front of his eyes. She couldn't be that oblivious, could she? She had to be doing that on purpose.
Harry loudly cleared his throat, which made Y/N look in his direction right away. She frowned, and when Harry didn't move his gaze away from her, she caught on what was happening. She then subtly slipped off Tom's grasp and bit the inside of her cheek. Maybe Harry was right and she had just not been noticing his intentions.
Harry shook his head; his eyes showed how hurt and betrayed he felt. Y/N cursed herself, before dismissing herself to go to the toilet, wishing she could just grab Harry's hand and drag him with her to put an end to their quarrel now that she had finally understood the reasons behind it: Tom, Harry's jealousy, and how she hadn't really realised her co-star had been slowly getting closer to her until her and Harry got into an argument because of it.
“Fuck, fuck. fuck.  I’m sorry about everything I said earlier, Harry. I managed to sneak into your dressing room. Can you come, please? I really want us to solve this. I shouldn’t have said those things... I’m so fucking sorry,” she texted him.
Y/N nervously bit her nails, walking from one side of the room to the other, mentally slapping herself for not having been aware of the situation sooner.
She was impatiently waiting for Harry, her eyes constantly checking her phone to see if he had replied to any of her messages. But it seemed like he hadn't read them yet, and she wasn't sure if it was because he didn't have his phone on him or because he was ignoring her, which, being completely honest, he had every right to do.
How could she had been so blind to not even sense Tom's intentions? Probably because she had been so starstruck by the thought of making a film with him, an actor she had admired for so long, to even think he wanted something more than just co-work with her.
She was about to text Harry again when the door opened and he appeared through it.
"Harry...," she started saying, but stopped right away because she didn't know what to say or how to commence.
He looked directly at her; his face and body muscles were not longer tensed, at least not as much as a few minutes back. As soon as Y/N got away from Tom he didn't feel so threatened anymore. Instead, other emotions had taken over him.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she quickly spoke, shaking her head as she squinted her eyes closed.
She could only imagine the things that ran through Harry's head every time he saw them together. Had she been in her boyfriend's position, she would have probably lost her mind. Another woman trying to flirt with him? Yeah, no, thank you.
Harry stared at her a few seconds, before taking the steps that separated them and grabbing her by her waist.
His lips furiously pressed against hers without a warning, making her eyes go wide the moment she felt them. His free hand rested on her cheek as the kiss only intensified and his tongue asked to slip inside her mouth, the kiss soon turning into a makeout session. Their tongues fought each other as their hands ran up and down their bodies, somehow making sure the other knew who they belonged to. When it ended, Harry rested his forehead against hers and momentarily clenched his jaw, pulling her closer to him as they both caught their breaths.
"Why didn't you tell me?," she mumbled, and moved her face up just enough to properly make eye contact with him.
He closed his eyes and sighed, before passing a hand through his hair and tucking at it. Y/N took that sign as the cue to grab his hands between hers as she pleadingly looked at him.
"Fuck, I don't know," he frustratedly admitted, "I guess I didn't want you to think I was overreacting or trying to sabotage you."
She quietly nodded, and sweetly squeezed his hands before entwining her fingers with his and lifting their hands to his chest. In other circumstances Harry would have just kissed her in front of everybody or wrap his arm around her to let them know she was actually taken.
But that was the thing: they weren't able to prove it unless they wanted the secret to be out.
They were together, yes, but nobody really knew that. In everybody's eyes Y/N was single, meaning men and women had a chance to hit on her, which made Harry uneasy every time he thought of it.
"How come you didn't notice?," Harry mumbled, frowning his eyebrows and lips, "He has clearly been trying to steal you from me."
"Hey," she quickly replied, a couple of wrinkles forming on her forehead due to the way she was frowning it, "No one's gonna take me from you, okay? We're together, and whether they know it or not it doesn't matter. You know why? Because at the end of the day I'm the person you kiss good night. Only I get to taste those lips of yours, and same goes to mine, Styles."
She softly smiled at him, showing him how hard she actually meant those words.
He nodded, biting his upper lip, before sighing again, "Sometimes I think it's better if we make it official, just to avoid these situations."
She nodded, understanding what he meant. However, deep down they both knew the cons were actually longer and heavier on the long run than the pros.
"I only have eyes for you, though," she assured him, "I don't ever wanna hurt you, you know that, right? I would never ever put myself in a position to lose you. I'd be damned if I did."
"I know you wouldn't, baby," he caressed her cheek with both his index finger and thumb, "It's them I don't trust."
He then pecked her lips, and for a moment they both dreamt of an alternative universe where they were able to show their love to the public without being judged, stalked or criticised for it.
One day, maybe one day.

The great Ethan Hawke once said “I’ve always had a thing for Westerns.” I, too, have always had a thing for Westerns. And a thing for Ethan Hawke. And, for the past year, a thing for Pedro Pascal. And next month all of my things are combining into one big thing. A film called “Strange Way of Life”, a Spanish western (anti-western?) about two former friends (lovers?) reuniting after 25 years apart.
To celebrate this momentous collaboration of all my "things" I would like to submit to this website a small collection of Westerns I believe would be helpful to watch before the release of Strange Way of Life next month. I’ve tried to give each film in the list a summary and a small explanation of why I included it in the list.
Some of these I’ve included simply because of how wonderful they are, some because I believe they’re going to inform Strange Way of Life in one way or another, and one because I, no lie, watched it in a movie theater with Ethan Hawke himself at a film festival he put on.
(@the-ginger-hedge-witch hi! I hope its okay to tag you the western queen in this! I thought maybe you would be interested in this western love fest.)
Without further ado:
Westerns I believe would make wonderful companion films to Strange Way of Life:
Red River
How does one delicately say….the scene in which Montgomery Clift meets John Ireland is so homoerotic and so sexy it’s almost unbearable. Have you ever wanted to watch two cowboys compare the weight and size of their dicks by trading guns? Well you’re going to love this film! To put it simply, as a wonderful youtube comment said, “give me one heterosexual reason for this scene. SPOILER there isn’t one!!” Exactly. This film has been hailed in film history for 2 things: the first being that Montgomery Clift burst onto the scene in this movie with a new way of acting (the method) that was so incredible it changed film acting forever. Literally. FOREVER. The second being, this is one of the gayest westerns ever filmed and has been viewed as one of the brightest examples of how homosexuality always found its way past censors. Clift and Ireland were lovers in real life and wow does that come through in every second of this film. Yes, sadly, John Wayne is in this film, but please don’t let this deter you. It’s simply incredible.
Summary: A father (John Wayne) and his adopted son (Montgomery Clift) feud over the management of a cattle drive from Texas to Kansas.
Unforgiven
What happens when one of our greatest Western actors ever, Clint Eastwood, thinks "actually Westerns promote an unrealistic black and white version of history and a kind of violence that is unrealistic at best and actively harmful to our society at worst"? You get THE Western to end ALL Westerns. (Note: please heed trigger warnings for this film!)
Summary: After a sex worker is assaulted, William Munny (Clint Eastwood) comes out of retirement to take one last bounty job and must finally confront the violent and reckless past he thought he left behind.
The Wild Bunch
One last job goes bad trope? Check. Men who have aged just enough they cant understand the modern world that now surrounds them? Check. Men driving themselves to madness after they violate their code of ethics by betraying a friend? CHECK. This film has it all, and it's why its considered one of the greatest Anti-Westerns ever made. And, as I've now mentioned twice before on this site lol, the wine scene in the Strange Way of Life trailer is, I believe, a direct retelling of a scene in this film.
Summary: An aging outlaw gang on the Mexico–United States border plan to retire after a final robbery but find themselves having to adapt to the changing modern world of 1913.
Hud
Paul Newman is HUD! Would you believe I added another Anti-Western to this list?? A father and son fight after their cattle falls ill. Thats the simple summary. My summary: What happens when masculinity becomes so toxic it's like a disease infecting everything and everyone around it? HUD is what happens. This is one of the films I watched at Ethan Hawkes film festival, Paul Newmans West, earlier this year. It's staggering. Hawke has clearly spent a long, long time thinking about Newman, Westerns, and his own life and career. Its hard for me to imagine he didn't carry at least a piece of this performance with him into Strange Way. (Note: please heed trigger warnings about this film as well!)
Summary: Honest and hard-working Texas rancher Homer Bannon (Melvyn Douglas) has a conflict with his unscrupulous, selfish, arrogant and egotistical son Hud (Paul Newman).
The Power of The Dog
ANOTHER gay anti-western?? Yes. YES. One of my favorite films. Loneliness and internalized homophobia destroy, we all know that, but it feels like it's never been said more powerfully or put more fully on display than in this film.
Summary: A domineering rancher (Benedict Cumberbatch) responds with mocking cruelty when his brother (Jesse Plemons) brings home a new wife and her son, until the unexpected comes to pass.
Brokeback Mountain
The film that started it all! Almodóvar famously turned down directing Brokeback Mountain in 2004 because he felt the studio would stifle his vision. “(Strange Way of Life) could be like my answer to Brokeback Mountain."- Almodóvar  What more is there to say? A watch (or re-watch) is imperative.
Summary: In 1963, rodeo cowboy Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and ranch hand Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) are hired by rancher Joe Aguirre as sheep herders in Wyoming.
Extracurricular Films
Westerns staring Ethan Hawke:
The Magnificent Seven
In a Valley of Violence
The Kid
The Good Lord Bird (miniseries)
Westerns staring Pedro Pascal:
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Triple Frontier
The Mandalorian (series)
The Last of Us (series)
Films shown at Ethan Hawke's Film Festival, Paul Newmans West:
The Left Handed Gun
Hombre
Hud
The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean
Buffalo Bill and the Indians or Sitting Bull's History Lesson
Highlights from Pedro Almodóvar's directing career:
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!

this is called giving Live Action Avatar a fair chance
the Netflix live action Avatar has always been a strange beast. it's a thing no one wanted after the disastrous 2010 movie. public perception of it was extremely low after Bryke walked out on it because of creative differences (disheartening as well as concerning). people tore apart the teaser stills and completely thrashed the early trailers. the news that Sokka's sexism plot was being altered had fans frothing at the mouth. the show seemed to be caught in this limbo where it had an incredibly low bar to rise above, in terms of trouncing The Last Airbender Movie, and infinitely high bar it would be impossible to reach, in terms of the original A:TLA.
now. if i can't go into a live action adaptation with an open mind, i will not watch it. live action Yu Yu Hakusho came out several months ago, and the vibes I got from trailer were not what I wanted, so I shelved it. if I'm going to sit down and watch a re-telling of one of my favorite pieces of media, I'm going to do my damnedest to go in with as open of a mind as a I can bear, because I like to have a good time and I can't do that constantly dogging on something.
so. my rule of thumb is generally this: treat any live action adaptation as fanfiction. if i can recognize the characters and recognize the plot, that's fine. i'm not looking for anything crazy, just interesting fanfiction. that's the level of closeness to canon i'm expecting. bar is on the floor.
and in terms of Good Television, my expectations are also incredibly low. good TV has 1. good writing 2. good acting 3. good action/SFX. for adaptations the best i'm looking for is ONE out of three. the lower my expectations, the more fun i get to have.
i'm explaining all of this because, while I have not seen reviews of Netlix Avatar yet, I know just how brainless the masses can be and i need you to know that THESEEE are the expectations you should be having when going into these things. Avatar: The Last Airbender is hailed as an example of a nearly PERFECT show. if you are expecting that kind of excellence from an adaptation you are simply deranged and I will not be reading your bad faith interpretations of the show.
with these expectations in mind, it's easy to see why i'm loving Netflix Avatar so much. why? because it cleared one of my very low expectations. the bending in the show looks pretty good! the writing of the show is average! some of the actors are quite charming! i am pleased!
i have seen 3 episodes so far ("Aang" through "Omashu", and yes these episode titles DO suck, I'll concede to that)
so, now that i've gotten that little manifesto out of the way, let's get into some actual Thoughts So Far:
-the way the first episode was structured was very cool. i like that they didn't throw us in at the same spot we started in A:TLA. and to avoid the horrible exposition dump the movie gave us, instead they just showed us the start of the war. i like the tactical inclusion that Sozin let word get out that the Fire Nation would attack the Earth Kingdom first to throw the Air Nomads off his scent. i also thought it was cool so show us a day in the life at the Easter Air Temple. the setting was gorgeous and I loved seeing all the monks doing their own thing. it made you feel so attached to the Air Nomads and their kindness and gentleness, so when they were attacked you truly felt for them.
-Monk Giatso's actor was fantastic. i was gagged that they had my crying less than 20 min into the first episode, what the fuck
-Gran Gran reciting Katara's opening speech line by line was funny, hokey, and exactly what I wanted. loved that for her and loved that for ME
-i like the change that Katara has to waterbend in secret for her own safety, not simply because she doesn't have a master
-it felt appropriate that they made Sokka take his warrior/protector role more seriously. the "i gotta go potty" bit from that like 6 year old in the original is hilarious but I don't think that sort of humor would have translated well to live action. i like that Sokka really was a leader to the ragtag group of kiddos and like one teenage boy. and him asking Zuko to duel with him one and one!! a very sweet early act of bravery
-in general i'm just really liking how they're approaching Sokka's character. all the fuss over "they're taking out Sokka's sexism" arc felt idiotic to me for weeks because like of course they did?? let's be SO real here, if you have never seen the original and are watching Netflix Avatar blind for the first time, are you going to rock with the protagonist who makes "girls' only jobs are cooking and sewing" jokes? in 2024? in this sociopolitical climate that shit would NOT fly and people would drop the show for stuff like that. no one would wait to see his character growth, people's attention spans aren't long enough for that these days. plus, for all the naysayers boohooing because that's Sokka's whole character arc, it's literally not! that nasty personality trait sticks with Sokka for FOUR episodes. having his character arc revolve around his identity as a warrior is much more in-line with Sokka's ACTUAL arc. he can skip the "sew my pants" jokes so we can get to his real root of his conflict, being a non-bender and a novice warrior in a world of extreme violence and feeling inferior because of it
-i don't mind that they made Zuko less aggressive. again, with the bar of the original A:TLA being SO fucking high, ESPECIALLY because of Zuko, Netflix was never going to reach that level of excellence. so I'm okay with this Zuko being a little more level-headed and more of a mindless Fire Nation Greatness truther because it's a decent interpretation of his character, for fanfiction. consider everybody on planet earth know that Zuko will eventually be a Good Guy, we don't have to go out of our way to show that he's a giant asshole. we already know he's a good boy.
-on that note I love the bait and switch with the Jet introduction. seeing a cute boy flirting with Katara, I couldn't immediately tell if that merchant boy was just a one-off kind character, or maybe Haru because of his clothing and the way his hair was styled. to have him turn out to be Jet was FUN because it showed me that despite knowing the original canon forwards and backwards, this show can still find ways to surprise me. i had been talking with my sister about whether or not they were going to include Bumi (and his shenanigans) because that's a plot twist that worked when the show originally aired, but wouldn't hit at all in an adaptation where we all know who Bumi is already. where I'm currently at in the show I'm still not sure if we'll see his inclusion or not, but i still appreciated that new bait and switches are possible.
-this meant basically all the Omashu episode was very fun. they way they wove the Freedom Fighters and Mechanist's stories together was very interesting and i liked how fresh it felt
-Suki's actor is incredibly gorgeous. with and without the make-up. that needed to be it's own point because oh my god
-i love that she gave Sokka and fan and i'm DYINGGG to see him use it in a battle
-THEY INCLUDED KYOSHI NOVEL LORE AND I SCREAMED
-they included AVATAR KYOSHI FIGHT SEQUENCES AND I SCREAMED
-i probably should have mentioned this way sooner but Aang's actor is such a little cutie. he's doing such a great job capturing Aang's energy. both wise and playful and so so sweet. i love him
-i found it hilarious that they waited three episodes for Katara to bring up her dead mom. we all know that the super generic and boring critiques of Katara are 1. too much dead mom talk 2. too much hope talk 3. too motherly. i feel like the show intentionally waited two and a half episodes for Katara to bring up Kya and that's so funny to me. they also have only let her mention hope like twice lol. my girl is being STIFLED
-special effects are honestly really good? some of aang's flying is a little wonky but the firebending and waterbending so far as looked fantastic. i haven't seen much earthbending so far besides that opening sequence but i was impressed by that too. and Aang and Zuko fighting in Omashu with Zuko not using his bending? SO much fun. the choreo was awesome, i loved the set piece of fighting amongst all those scarves.
-building off that, Appa and Momo are very cute. the creatures al look pretty good too. ostrich horses look great
all in all, lots of really good stuff so far. i only have minor criticisms, and they're mostly things I can deal with. Iroh's acting is weird to me. it sounds like it's putting on a silly voice instead of speaking how he normally would, so it scans as off-putting. also in terms of costuming, Iroh's wig is WIGGING so much more than other cast members. it looks so glued on and shaped with hairspray. Mai and Ty Lee (one seen them for a moment so far) also just look like random cosplayers who wandered on set. and i guess both Monk Giatso's reveal of Aang being the avatar, as well as Gran-Gran's immediate understanding that Aang is the avatar, both happened extremely fast.
but yeah! those are my thoughts so far. again, I have no idea what public perception of this show is. i'm trying to avoid reviews and probably won't be back on tumblr until i've at least made it to episode 6. then maybe i'll come back and write more if my opinion drastically changes or I think the world will need another stern talking to about what to expect from an adaptation

I’M GOING TO SPOIL STUFF.
I’m also going to tag as best as I can but we never know if Tumblr is going to fuck things up and better safe than sorry so. In this post there are going to be:
Screenshots from the first dune part 2 trailer
Informations you get from the book, either in the first part or the second part.
Maybe informations from the Messiah book? Not sure.
If you’re not sure, better not read and quickly scroll. But if you don’t care and would like to see my endless rambling about the trailer, and if you haven’t read the book and would like a bit more detailed context about the Dune universe, sit down with me for a minute 💜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll never never never be tired of watching the desert shot by Denis. This is so smooth, so calming, so satisfying. My soul is happy 😌
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the first shot of the trailer that made me go ohmygod. I'm not sure what's going on exactly in this scene but I find these few seconds SO POWERFUL for some reason. I'd wish Herbert would have done more with Lady Jessica in the whole story (even if her not being really present gives more room to other very interesting characters) but I can't wait to see Lady Jessica in this part 2. The glimpses we see in this trailer are exciting (to say the least).
Tumblr media
When the talk was all about Florence vs Anya, I thought Anya was closer to what I had physically in mind for a character like Irulan. Seeing the trailer now, I think Florence's smartness, attitude and personality might be a very good thing for Irulan. Good move, Denis, good move.
Tumblr media
I love this shot and I love it even more because it could look like something form The Messiah. Or even the Children. Incredible. I love that Timmy's account used it for promotion.
Tumblr media
AH. That's where all the problem start. And the spoilers. I'm not sure what will be said in the movie so, maybe I'm not spoiling much but, still. Anyway.
If you don't know, this is Feyd-Reutha. He's the Harkonnen Baron's nephew and his heir. While Paul is the Baron's grand son. In the Bene Gesserit's plans, Paul was supposed to be a girl and marry Feyd. Their kid was supposed to be the Bene Gesserit's Kwisatz Haderach. As you must now from the first movie, all of this was fucked up because Lady Jessica gave Duke Leto the boy he wanted. In the book, Feyd is supposed to look a lot like Paul, to be a charismatic figure like him and everything. I'm not sure choosing to make Austin look like what they decided all the Harkonnens should look really serve this idea? I get that it's a good idea for cinema and a movie targeting the largest audience possible that Harkonnens all look similar so everybody can quickly understand the different sides, families and who's good and who's bad. (Truth is, everybody is bad in Dune. Except the mouse. The mouse can stay.) But, I also think that nothing looks more powerful and dangerous than a bad guy looking like a good guy (in narration standards). If I remember correctly, Feyd can be read as a bit of a mirror for Paul's character and I would have like to see a bit of this physically? I don't know. I want to be convinced because I am not really right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love sci-fi and fantasy universes exactly for these aesthetics. Mysterious items. It fascinates me probably because I would have no idea about how to write these kind of things myself.
Tumblr media
I clearly remember the moment I've read how Paul's skin was supposed to look like after 3 years living in the Arrakis' desert. And I remember thinking how the hell they're going to make this happened how Timmy's skin of all people. Like the guy would probably managed to burn in Glasgow so, I was doubtful. I still am since he still looks silky smooth for most of the trailer but i like the way his skin looks here. That being said, they seem to have made some kind of arrangement with the timeline of the story. I'll have more thoughts about it after seeing the movie.
Tumblr media
It might be just me but this piece of scene didn't sound very clear to me, even with memories of the book. Like, we don't know what looks like a normal worm ride so, are we supposed to understand what's going on and what's fancy? Plus what Paul's doing doesn't look fancy at all, it looks more like he's struggling sooo? It's not smooth, but not fancy either, so idk. Unless they're is a meaning of fancy that I don't know of, i'm a bit confused by this part. But this,
Tumblr media
this is genius. Perfect midway between admiration and fear. Exactly what is needed to look at Muad'Dib.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder why some parts are in black and white. Seems a bit easy for a vision and wasn't used in the first movie so it would be odd but i have no other theory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm a bit upset because if it's the scene I think it is, it was very different in my head. Maybe I don't remember correctly, but for me, in this scene Paul is talking to a couple of hundreds people top and is very close to them and for me it suits the Muad'Dib effect better? It's kind of hard to explain, especially in English, but for me, Muad'Dib doesn't really scream directly to thousands of people who can't barely see him to send them to war. I see him as a figure who will talk to the couple of hundreds people he's with and be so close to them you can see his reflection in their eyes. He's a legend in the sense of a belief. It's the idea of him, his words spreading from person to people and from people to person that make Muad'Dib who he is. I guess it would have been less impressive for a film like Dune but I was impatient to see this scene, a sort of prophetic version of his speech in the King, and now I'm not sure. I hope they did good but and that he's delivering his speech in a other scenery and then going there rather than having to shoot such a powerful moment in front of nothing and with no other possibility than to yell everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After thought was to wonder if Timmy learned to radiate such confidence (especially in the scene of the second screenshot) for Paul or if Paul taught him to feel confident. Life as an actor must be so so weird.
Long story short, I know the movie is going to be fantastic but I have just a few interrogations about how certain things look. And last but not least, the work that the music does for this movie is PHENOMENAL, even if it's nothing that we haven't read before. Hans is a genius, I'd offer him my first child without a second thought. (i don't have kids. I don't want kids, so it's a way of saying, chill out.)

PLEASE WRITE FLUFF ABOUT CHRIS PONTIUS PLEASE I CANNOT FIND ANY FICS ABOUT HIM !
i’m glad you asked bc i’ve been thinking about something all day, kinda like this
hospital visits w/ chris
Tumblr media
maybe during the filming of jackass 3D
one week, you already caught a cold
runny nose, nasally voice, painful coughs
chris is the one who stops by your trailer the most, not scared to catch it from you unlike the other guys
he’d bring you soup and tea (he knows you don’t like coffee, and that lemon balm tea with ginger is your favorite)
extra blankets left in his trailer that he insists he’s not using (even though it’s insanely freezing in north dakota), and kleenex
sometimes he grabs your head and shoves a tissue up your nose, telling you to blow in a very bizarre old lady voice
“c’mon dear, you can’t expect to get better if you don’t blow it out!”
“ouch, chris, you’re pushing it too deep” “no woman i’ve ever been with has ever discouraged that before”
a couple of days go by and you’re feeling much better, the last of your sore throat being taken care of by crystallized ginger candy pontius kept in his pocket for you
you are in bad luck, however
it’s not even your stunt, bam and dunn are stalling the filming of ‘winter fat fucks’ bc the former has to pee
you’re distracted reading something on your phone when jeff tells one of the snowboarders in the fat suit to surprise tackle you
your phone flies from your hand onto the snow, and you wish you could trade places with it
instead of just dropping to the ground, you end up rolling downhill fast and a snow-covered rock is what stops your descent
the first thing you feel is a shooting pain in your back, the guy’s real body weight along with the suit’s weight pressing you against the rock
then, your head bounces off the thick snow and you don’t feel anything anymore
you’re out for just a few seconds, but when you come to everyone is surrounding you with a ‘wtf just happened’ expression on their faces
chris tells you not to move, crouching down next to you after jeff calls for medics
“how do you feel?” “is it too late to confess i never thought fat suits were funny?”
he rides in the ambulance with you, of course, busy drying your phone
“chris, leave it” “no, i don’t have mine on me and i really want to take a picture of how cute you look immobilized” “that’s a red flag if i’ve ever heard one”
at the hospital, you have to run through a battery of exams, including the x ray that confirms you have a fractured rib
chris waits outside of all exam rooms he’s not allowed in, bouncing his legs and crossing his arms
turns out, they are keeping you there for the night due to your concussion, but there seems to be no danger
at this, chris says he’ll be right back
when he does, you’re eating flavorless hospital food in your room, scrolling through your phone which is about to run out of battery
what you see makes your heart swell
he begins pulling out things from a backpack
first, toothbrush and toothpaste
then, a change of clothes for tomorrow since yours are still pretty humid
some chocolates, a phone charger, deodorant
and lastly, his laptop
“why didn’t you just get my toothbrush if you stopped by the set?” “i can’t treat my favorite girl? you know you love hannah montana”
yes he bought you an electric brush and a toothpaste tube with miley cyrus’ face plastered all over it
“and your laptop? i didn’t know i was interrupting your incessant grind, mr. all business” “we’re watching a movie, and i don’t care that you’re in pain, i’m picking”
maybe he really doesn’t care, because he forces you to move on the hospital bed so he can join you, having a really tough time fitting in comfortably
laughing is incredibly uncomfortable even after all the pills, surely not helping the soreness you’re feeling, but it’s inevitable with chris around
he takes a safe bet and presses play on the breakfast club
“first disney channel and now john hughes? are you sure you’re not a teenage girl stuck in a grown man’s body?” “ok, A, stop undermining my inner sensitivity. B, that’s not a joke, it’s the plot of The Hot Chick” “i think you would’ve done a lot better than rob schneider, for the record”
(truth is, he remembers when you told him years ago that it was a comfort movie)
midway through the film, he has to lift the computer from his lap and get another blanket because you’re shaking uncontrollably
he looks very worried, insisting on calling a nurse to check on you
it’s not like you can put up a fight, but apparently you have a fever, so he was right for that
the nurse gives you medication to lower your temperature and you go right back into watching the film
when he lays back, you pull the blankets up to your nose and cling to his side, hands around his bicep and cheek flush against his shoulder
it feels more right than anything in your lives
the meds do their job and you fall asleep before judd nelson can put his fist in the air
trying to leave and take his place on the armchair, your grip grounds him
you’re still shaking a little, and he feels like he could probably watch you better if he was in the bed with you, just in case
so he sets the laptop haphazardly on the small bedside table, hoping no disasters happen, and snuggles closer to you
he does not sleep, not really
constantly checking if your skin feels too warm or too cold, if your breathing is normal, if your heart is beating
in the middle of the night, you finally turn the other way, groaning with the movement
he jolts up, ready to run through the hallways screaming for a doctor if anything seemed out of place
instead, you search for his hand unconsciously, snaking it around your waist
he freezes, unsure of whether doing this when you’re asleep means it’s more or less genuine
your fingers intertwine loosely around his, tugging him forwards like a cartoon character floating in the air with heart eyes, following a pretty woman
now laying on his side, he uses his other hand to rub your back up and down, hoping it could somehow ease your tiny shakes/spasms to a stop
the repetitive movements lull him to sleep, finally
in the morning, you wake up to a nurse reprimanding chris for taking space in the bed when you’re the injured one
it gets worse when he breaks out of the layers of blankets and has to apologize for his ‘morning wood’, as he calls it
the look on the older woman’s face is that of dejection, excusing herself to get the doctor who was taking care of you
still curled in the bed, you look at his blushing cheeks and laugh so hard you feel nauseous
after being discharged and showering, chris helps you change
he nearly suffocates you with the spray of deodorant
(his deodorant by the way, claiming he smells better than you, which is a complete lie)
a coughing fit is very painful for someone with a broken rib, so you have to steady yourself by holding onto his shoulders
his hands are on your bare hips, clad only in low rise jeans and your bra
there’s a moment, when he asks if you’re good, looking so intently into your eyes
it’s just a moment, your chests moving in synch, your hands feel feathery-light
you nod, feeling your mouth is dry, asking for the hoodie instead of the extra blouse he brought
chris helps you lift your arms and pull the comfy fabric over them, promising to be more gentle than he has been
you chuckle, and your exposed chest vibrates with you, and he has to really focus on the task at hand unless he wants to be outed as a creep for staring too long
in his car, you thank him sincerely for being there
“how could i ever repay you?”
your joke is met with a surprisingly shy laugh
“how about breakfast?”
grinning, you agree, “sounds good to me”
he speeds off, toying with your nerves
(whether your stomach is twisting because of the dangerous driving or the crazy dude behind the wheel is unclear)

We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.
Propaganda below the cut (spoilers may apply)
The Seeker: The Dark is Rising:
Painfully generic-dumbed-down-fantasy-action trying to channel better film franchises instead of the atmospheric, mythopoetic and lyrical children’s book it is technically based on. Bonus points for the open contempt people involved had for the source material, both in how they treated it and what they said about it.
BAD. Bad bad bad!! They completely changed Will's character. In the books he does get frustrated sometimes, but is mostly kind and patient and really makes you believe that he is both an ancient being and an 11 year old boy and in the movie they changed it so he's like really mad and angsty and just the total opposite of his actual character!! Absolute butchery. And they cut the Wild Hunt! And changed a bunch of other plot stuff and it overall just sucked.
where do I even begin. they made the main character American for no reason (this is perhaps the most egregious change), aged him up to 14, and added a straight romance subplot. they were so indecisive during production that they CUT AN ENTIRE MAIN CHARACTER in the time between the trailer and the actual film release. they completely fucked up all of Will’s family stuff. in pursuit of “relatability” they got rid of everything that makes the book good and put in THE most generic, poorly written, poorly acted (except Christopher Eccleston, who did okay), and poorly produced garbage. it was in theaters for like…less than a week; we were supposed to see it for my birthday but it was already gone. it doesn’t even have, like, half-decent special effects. it is an insult.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children:
While Miss Peregrine was one of my favorite books as a kid and incredibly unique in the way the story is written (The author basically took a box of weird antique photographs and created an underlying story behind a handful of them) the movie is incredibly boring. Like seriously I can't remember a single goddamn thing about the movie besides my extreme disappointment with it after leaving the theatres. It's probably because the original is a trilogy but they didn't want to make it a trilogy for the movie so they just scrapped the ending of the first book and rewrote a shitty climax where they threw snowballs at the nightmare child eating creatures or something. I remember THAT scene perfectly because it was so, so dumb. It was so stupid oh my God- ALSO, thank God I have a copy of the book from before the film came out because new copies don't have one of the photographs that the actual book uses as a base anymore and instead have the shitty movie poster! We truly do live in a society.
Changed way too much so it doesn't feel like the same thing. The main characters are these kids with different abilities (called peculiarities) and the movie switches around their powers and changes almost everyone's age. Emma and Olive switch powers so that Emma now floats (they also added that she can kind of control air to some extent) when she's supposed to have fire powers to match her fiery personality. Olive can make fire now and she's also aged up from an eight year old to a teenager and put her in this weird romance with Enoch. Enoch is also aged up from a grumpy thirteen year old to around the same age as Olive. Bronwyn, one of the older kids in the book and sort of a motherly figure to the younger kids, is now one of the youngest kids. Hugh and Fiona are aged down and basically have no interaction at all in the movie, even when their book counterparts had such a good relationship. The only one they didn't really change was Horace and Jacob. They also added these gorgon twins that do like two things. The antagonist in the movie is Mr. Barron who honestly isn't super memorable and isn't in the books whatsoever. The ending of the movie is weird too because they manage to turn back time somehow so Jacob's grandfather isn't dead and then he hops through loops so he can be with Emma and the other peculiars. I guess the problem of wights and hollowgasts is magically eliminated and we do not have to deal with the consequences. It took six books to fix everything. I appreciate that the movie engaged me enough to read the series but once I did, I could not believe they did my kids that dirty.
Yikes where to start. The 3 girl characters are all mixed up. There are 2 teens, one who's super strong and has a brother (I'll get back to him) and one who controls fire and is the love interest named Emma. The third girl is a child called Olive who floats. She's lighter than air.
In the movie, strong girl is the child, olive is now the fire girl and is for some reason super introverted, and Emma the love interest floats and gets given a super breath??? Power?? Like she rises a sunken ship by blowing in and keeps a man blown against a wall by blowing air at him. He makes a remark that she'll run out of breath eventually, which happens here because plot convenience, but not when she's blowing in the sunken ship.
The enemies in the book are terrifying Hollows. Creatures who have lost themselves and devour souls of those with powers... The movie decides they eat eyes now. And turn human again. And get busted up in a fair for the final act of the movie. Ugh.
The movie also decides randomly that time travelling through the loops is a thing; a loop being a pocket of time that replays the same day over and over. But apparently this means Main Character can travel back in time and stop his grandfather dying??? What?? His grandfathers death is the whole start of the movie and motivation for the character.
The movie undermines many of things that made the book amazing and even decides it's not a trilogy anymore!! Fuck the other 2 books, right?!
Tldr; it is terribly hollywood-ised and t tim Burton ruined a franchise by trying too hard to make it quirky and fun when the books already had a brilliant sombre and interesting tone to them.

So I just got back from a midnight showing of the Mario Movie!!! AND I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT IN DEPTH (BEHIND A CUT OF COURSE, NO SPOILERS FOISTED UPON ANYONE UNLESS THEY WANT THEM)
If you are just looking for a general impression of whether I thought it was good/bad and some things to keep in mind before you see it yourself (I do want to offer a helping hand in setting expectations for people who are afraid they've hyped it up too much), you can read that part FIRST and then I will provide a clear warning/a ton of space where you have to scroll further to get to the actual spoilers so you can back out! But I AM going to spoil things after I provide that warning, so please don't read further if you don't want to know.
(Also if you don't want to read through all the spoilers but you DO want to know if something specific happens/doesn't happen, feel free to message me! I don't mind answering.)
LET'S-A GO
MY GENERAL, NOT-SO-SPOILERY THOUGHTS:
As someone who has loved these characters for a very long time and has always longed for more media with them, I really, genuinely did have a wonderful time watching the movie. Now that I'm home, I'm realizing that my face actually ACHES from smiling too much, haha. I think everyone who has that built-in affection for the source material will have a good time with it and not regret seeing it, and the movie seriously FLIES by because you're just so busy enjoying it and being along for the ride!
ALSO, IF YOU WERE WORRIED ABOUT THIS (NO SPECIFICS, WILL GET INTO IT MORE BELOW), MARIO AND LUIGI AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS, BY FAR AND AWAY, THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE, THEY ARE SO UNBELIEVABLY ADORABLE EVERY MOMENT THEY'RE TOGETHER, WHICH IS NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH TIME BUT OH WELL. GIVE ME A MOVIE WHERE THEY'RE TOGETHER THE WHOLE TIME RIGHT NOW, I DEMAND IT
THAT SAID....
I do think that if you are someone who has spent a lot of time theorizing about potential scenes/conversations between characters and hoping for meaningful interactions and a lot of emotional resonance and payoff (like me!), you need to bring your expectations WAY, WAY, WAYYYYYY down before going in. Bring them incredibly far down, and then bring them down a little lower, even. Trust me on this.
I saw in a review before I went in that "you can tell pretty immediately when watching that this is meant to be an extremely surface-level movie for children" and I wasn't sure what that meant, but after seeing it...yeah. yeah, I do see what they meant. There is just a lack of depth here that's pretty glaring (even for a children's movie!) and I think the short length of the movie is what really, REALLY hurts it. I just desperately wish it was 10 minutes longer and every scene had another two minutes added on where the characters could just TALK to each other. The characters almost never get to just talk to each other about anything that isn't servicing the moving of the plot forward at a breakneck pace, which is sad!!!! As much as I loved seeing all the characters together, it all just felt...a little empty. And that stinks, really.
Also, a good thing to know: if you have watched ALL the trailers/TV spots like many of us have, you have seen a VAST majority of the movie already, like 65% at least, I would say. Everything but the first 10 minutes and the last 15-20 minutes, basically! And while there are additional shots/pieces of dialogue in those scenes, of course, several of the scenes from the trailers where people were like "oh boy, can't WAIT to see the rest of that scene" - uhhhh, you basically already saw the whole scene, I'm sorry to say. That was definitely a bit of a disappointing realization for me, to realize that a scene I'd looked forward to from the trailers was here and - oh, it's already over, we're moving on. :( (And I can write a list of which scenes those were down below, if you want to know.) The movie really, REALLY needed some time to breathe, for goodness sake! This is probably the most frustrating thing, just not understanding why it had to be so SHORT and why every scene is paced like lightning.
ALSO: a couple of lines from the trailers that people really loved are not in the movie at all!?!?!?!?!?! I WAS APPALLED. WHAT HAPPENED THERE? WAS THE SCENE CUT OR DID THEY JUST RECORD LINES WITHOUT SCENES ATTACHED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE TRAILER????? (I will also list these below!)
All in all, I do want to be clear that I am NOT majorly disappointed! A little disappointed, sure, but I'm still smiling thinking back on the movie and I don't regret seeing it at all! I think people will enjoy it a lot if they just manage their expectations going in!!! But yeah...I think there's going to be a LOT of "fix-it fic" that comes out of this movie, whether that's people elaborating on the scenes or simply writing a better, longer, more emotionally resonant version of the plot (which honestly I might dabble in, LOL)
AND NOW LET'S GET INTO ACTUAL SPOILERS
FIRST, MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: DO MARIO AND LUIGI GET TO HUG WHEN THEY REUNITE????? SCROLL DOWN TO FIND OUT

THEY DO!!! AND IT'S THE BEST
I'm not even joking, it's my favorite moment of the movie by far, absolutely no contest, would watch it 1,000+ times on repeat and die happy, LOL. It comes and goes quickly like all things in this movie does but they DO get a few beats to themselves and just - their faces!!!! their body language!!!! THE RELIEF AND HAPPINESS AND LOVE FOR EACH OTHER IS SO PALPABLE, JUST IN ALL THE LITTLE WAYS THEY REACT AND TOUCH EACH OTHER!!! I would have to see it again to really get all the little details, I'm sure I missed things in the moment, but the highlights are Mario cupping Luigi's face in both hands REALLY sweetly and also going in for a second quick hug where he lifts Luigi off the ground. And then there is some light ribbing from Luigi about what the heck he's wearing (he's still in the Tanooki powerup!) XD
Unfortunately, no one cries or gets teary (at least not that I noticed? I could be wrong and there was a super quick moment of it) but other than that, it was truly a lovely, little moment and this what I cared most about in the movie by far, SO I CAN REST EASY NOW. I think I saw someone say "I want their reunion hug to be good enough that it's featured in ALL Mario & Luigi hug compilations" and ohhhh, trust me, it WILL be!
(If you are curious about context for their reunion, here you go: there is unfortunately no jailbreak or anything like that, Luigi is still in jail when Bowser decides to SACRIFICE ALL HIS PRISONERS BY DROPPING THEM, CAGE AND ALL, INTO LAVA to prove his love for Peach!?!?! Peach herself manages to temporarily stop the cages from lowering but then Luigi is the lowest hanging cage and basically gets most of his cage EATEN AWAY BY LAVA but manages to crawl out and try to escape, only to fall! BUT THIS IS WHEN MARIO IS FIRST GETTING THE TANOOKI POWERUP AT THE SAME TIME AND HE SWOOPS IN AND SAVES HIM, IT IS GREAT AND SUPRISINGLY TENSE)
I will get into more detail about the rest tomorrow in a follow-up post when it's not almost 4:30 in the morning, but here are some more spoilers/things I liked or didn't like!
LIKED:
Pretty much everything in Brooklyn! I will write a more specific list tomorrow of all the sweet Mario & Luigi stuff but it is all EXTREMELY good, to the point that I started to actively dread the separation :(
PEACH GETTING CAPTURED AND GOING THROUGH WITH A WEDDING TO BOWSER TO SAVE HER PEOPLE BUT THEN KICKING ASS AND TAKING NAMES ALL BY HERSELF???? SHE SAVES HERSELF, NO MARIO NEEDED, AND IT'S FANTASTIC AND UNEXPECTED
Mario and DK's rivalry is SO juvenile but SO funny. All their little sniping at each other is cute XD
Bowser is also SO funny??? Everything with him pining after Peach and his SONG and all of his minions being EXTREMELY confused about his plan made me laugh more than anything else (BIG Mario Odyssey visual references for the wedding, btw XD)
I'M SORRY, I GOTTA SAY IT AGAIN....JUST MARIO AND LUIGI IN GENERAL. EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE PERFECT LITTLE MEN WHO LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH. ALSO, VINDICATION FOR ME BECAUSE WHAT MARIO SAYS TO LUIGI IN THE WARP PIPE IS "nothing can hurt us as long as we're together" (which is then repeated later at a critical moment) and nobody believed me that he was saying that but he IS!!!!!!! I KNEW IT
The whole "why is Peach the only human here?" question getting EXPLORED???? AND SHE HAS A BACKSTORY WHERE SHE ESSENTIALLY IS FROM MARIO & LUIGI'S WORLD AND WAS FOUND AND RAISED BY THE TOADS???? It was VERY interesting and i was EXTREMELY intrigued
Stuff that was disappointing:
There was essentially nothing about Mario and Peach and Toad's teamup & journey that you didn't already see in the trailers/TV spots :( There's maybe a COUPLE of cute, new lines but that's it.
Other scenes where you basically saw it all if you saw the trailers/TV spots - the fire flower fields scene (other than Peach's backstory! But no more talking about Luigi from Mario, waaah), the Bowser + Luigi interrogation (a tiny bit more to it but barely anything and they do not directly interact again, SORRY FANS OF THEM), Luigi in the Dark Lands, and the threesome traveling to different lands. :(
THE LINES "I'm not afraid! I'd do anything for my brother" and "I hope you told your brother how much you loved him because you're probably not gonna see him ever again" ARE NOT IN THE MOVIE (UNLESS I BLACKED OUT OR WAS DISTRACTED AND MISSED THEM) AND THAT IS ACTUALLY A CRIME!!!!!! I AM GENUINELY KIND OF UPSET ABOUT THIS AND DEMAND MORE INFO. HOW THEY COULD RECORD THE FIRST LINE IN PARTICULAR AND NOT INCLUDE IT???? SHAME, SHAME, SHAME
Again, just....a lack of characters getting to have conversations/connections in general. Mario and Luigi's relationship and closeness is the only one that you really BELIEVE. Mario and Peach just don't get time to TALK, and neither do Mario and Toad. Honestly, Mario and DK's relationship felt more fleshed out in the end, and even that was just by a tiny bit.
Speaking of...no Mario + Peach romance in the least, sorry. :( They get ONE scene where DK makes fun of Mario for "flirting" with her but that's basically it. They don't even really get a scene with any romantic undertones other than just general smiling/warmth at each other?
ALSO: no Rosalina, no Daisy, no Wario/Waluigi, no Bowser Jr or the Koopalings, no real cameos of any sort that I picked up on EXCEPT you do see King Boo and some other notable villains at Bowser and Peach's wedding, which was neat! But Daisyyyyyyy. ;____;
Lumalee literally plays NO actual role in the movie and there is no sacrifice for a 1-up or anything like that. The character is just there to be morbid comic relief, which is kind of a letdown!
I HAVE TO SLEEP NOW, but quick thing about the ending (I will elaborate in another post) - the final battle is truly BONKERS. It's NOT a classic Mario VS Bowser battle at all, which is what I originally wanted, but jury's still out on whether I liked it or not? Will have to sleep on it. XD
WILL FOLLOW UP WITH ANOTHER POST TOMORROW WHEN I'M NOT ACTIVELY FALLING ASLEEP

You didn’t ask, probably don’t care, and likely haven’t watched the movie, but if I may scream into the void that is your inbox about Damsel… I would greatly appreciate it. I will not spoil it for you, but if you would like to watch the movie and not waste time, may I suggest the trailer?
The makeup for this movie was so bad. God awful. Made me want to jump out of my one story window and on to a cactus.
Tumblr media
This is Elodie at the start of her day. She’s just been married, her makeup is on point (not at all historically accurate, but I will forgive it because this is ✨fantasy✨), and she is beautiful.
This is Elodie days later after she’s been bleeding, burned, sobbing, screaming, climbing, falling down, rolling around, etc.
Tumblr media
Tell me why she still looks fine.
This is the end of the movie. Where the character should look horrid. She should look like she’s been to hell and back. She should not look like she is in a weird “express ur inner beauty 🐉 ⛓️ 🥀“ commercial.
Elodie should be covered in filth. Her makeup should be running down her face, surrounding her eyes and making her look like a raccoon. She shouldn’t be any semblance of clean in this moment.
Additionally, her hair should be messed up! Just before this scene she’s cut it herself with a knife to make use of it. At best, she should have strands of hair that are different lengths. Most accurately, she should have one piece of hair which is short while the rest remains long. (I realize this one is more on the costuming department, but I must point it out nonetheless.)
All of this really takes away from the end of the film where such a contrast is needed. Towards the end, there’s a very important part where she is next to characters who are incredibly clean and pristine. These people should be looking at her with horror due to her appearance, but she looks fine and therefore the impact is lessened greatly.

The image on the left is just before the big battle scene while the image to the right is the very end of the film. She really doesn’t look all that different and I’m! So! Disappointed!
..
Thank you 😔 also I am sorry for my grammar if you read this far.
You weren't lying like the entire movie is in that 3 minute trailer. That's both impressive and disappointing. Impressive because wow, we learned so much so quickly. Disappointing because you mean to tell me there's only 3 minutes worth of stuff. However. will say there may be info missing from said trailer and I'm being hasty
anyway. it's amazing to see how that final battle was so intense and scary and hard that it literally curled and styled her hair. most stories leave that detail out, so it's nice to see it included <3
wait are those. are those dragons on her crown? even if not now I'm thinking about dragon crowns. ozzy I love dragons so so much. the things I would do for a dragon. just to see one...
anyway. this is an excellent ramble about how women's beauty (and the western stereotype of beauty more specifically) and aesthetics are prioritized in media/life over the truth/reality of their experiences. they're not allowed to be real people, they have to look nice when they struggle, to be poised and appealing when suffering. a very frustrating trend.
i appreciate the rant, thank you for sharing :)

Some random opening weekend predictions for animated movies for the rest of the year and maybe some 2025 ones, too...
THE GARFIELD MOVIE - Somewhere around $30m-45m. The only thing we can kind of base this on is the live-action GARFIELD from 2004, which did okay at best, wasn't really all that big back then. Whereas this is all-animated and much more recognizably Garfield & co., which I think will help it open above your typical post-COVID outbreak animated movie. It's the first all-new animated picture since KUNG FU PANDA 4, though not the first kid-friendly movie, as IF will open the weekend before it. Still, it's Garfield. Well-known, decades-old character. I guess the only other comparison here would have to be THE PEANUT MOVIES, which opened w/ $44m back in fall 2015. So yeah, somewhere in that ballpark.
INSIDE OUT 2 - Over $100m. The first INSIDE OUT opened with $90m back in 2015. Adjusted, that's definitely higher than $100m now. Anxiety was a huge hit upon the teaser release last fall, too. Could be a Grogu-esque character for the film that gets everyone in droves to check it out... So yeah, easy $100m opening. Will sit up there with THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE ($146m) and SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE ($120m), as grand champion animated openings post-March 2020. Could even make a play for the record, which currently belongs to the 2019 LION KING ($191m). If we don't want to count those kinds of CG movies, then... INCREDIBLES 2, with $182m.
DESPICABLE ME 4 - Over $60m. MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU opened to a great $107m back in 2022, being the first movie in this franchise in five years (it had been delayed from its original planned summer 2020 release date), and it also helped that the DESPICABLE ME franchise was over ten years old by that point - the first movie having turned 10 in July 2020. I think that definitely helped MINIONS 2, and out of nowhere came that whole meme with people dressing up in fancy suits to see the movie. That's a sort of thing that can't be engineered, and can't happen again... Thus, I expect DESPICABLE ME 4 to perform a little more closely to DESPICABLE ME 3 (that opened to $72m back in 2017) and open above $60m. Could be anywhere between that and $80m, really. Maybe higher, if there's something of a nostalgia rush for it like there was for MINIONS 2.
TRANSFORMERS ONE - Over $25m. Tricky, given that this is an all-new take on Transformers and all-animated no less. I'll compare this to fellow Paramount animated film TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM. That movie came off of two live-action takes on the characters (released in 2014 and 2016), and prior to that there was a single animated movie in 2007 that made an okay amount of money, and there were the three live-action movies from the 1990s, the first of which being iconic... MUTANT MAYHEM opened with $28m last year, so I expect a similar turnout for TF ONE. Especially coming a year after RISE OF THE BEASTS (opened with $60m). With no footage out yet, it'll have to make a real impression the way MUTANT MAYHEM did in order to not get fully dismissed as "Oh, a TRANSFORMERS cartoon now?" Keep in mind, the first SPIDER-VERSE got that kind of reaction in 2018, and opened w/ $35m.
THE WILD ROBOT - Over $30m. I sense a real hype for this one, unlike most non-sequel animated movies released over the past couple of years. And even before COVID, honestly. The trailer really, *really* made an impression. At the movie theater I work at, between co-workers and guests commenting on the poster? Yeah, I think this one possibly scores the biggest opening for a DreamWorks non-sequel since THE BOSS BABY ($50m) all the way back in 2017. The bar isn't too high, for CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS, ABOMINABLE, and THE BAD GUYS grossed between $20-25m on their respective opening weekends, while RUBY GILLMAN came and went. This one, I think, will surprise.
THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP - Over $10m. It's Looney Tunes, yes. It's 2D, also. I don't expect a huge opening for it, given how the tides often flow. No doubt fans and those who have been keeping track of its existence will show up. Not sure how GFM goes about marketing and advertising this one, but I'm basing this on how a lot of non-anime 2D films - whether they're based on pre-existing franchises or not - did over the past 15 years.
MOANA 2 - Over $100m. The first MOANA opened with $56m back in 2016 and legged it up to a $245m+ domestic gross. Pretty solid run in theaters... But on streaming? E-X-P-L-O-D-E-D... It continues to be one of the most streamed movies of all-time, every year. Something about it, really keeps it atop the tidal wave. The post-theatrical life for this movie is ROBUST... Thus, I think this sequel will be a massive opener.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM - Over $10m. Being an anime take on LORD OF THE RINGS, I think this will largely be ignored on its opening weekend, looked at as just "a LORD OF THE RINGS cartoon". With some diehards and animation fans such as ourselves showing up. Could be a leggy surprise thereafter, though.
MUFASA: THE LION KING - Over $30m. Whenever a sequel/prequel/whatever to a Disney remake crops up, it usually doesn't do great. ALICE IN WONDERLAND (2010), for example, was a billion dollar smash. Six years later came ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, which didn't make half of what the first Burton movie made worldwide. It did pitifully domestically, opening with $26m, waaaaay down from the first one's $116m opening take. MALEFICENT 2 had a similar trajectory, though not as harsh as a come down. That opened with $36m domestically, down from the first's $70m opening. I think LION KING prequel - coming off of the first, which opened with $191m - has a similar fate. It'll also have SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 to compete with.
DOG MAN - Over $10m. Basically a milder CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS. Looking at the likes of MIGRATION and such, it'll be a teens opener, probably having spectacular legs afterwards.
THE SMURF MOVIE - Over $10m. Kinda hard to gauge. A little while ago, Sony Animation did SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE in 2017, which opened with $13m. That came off of two relatively recent live-action hybrid movies. In 2025, it'll have been almost 10 years since LOST VILLAGE, so maybe that helps it? Maybe the new approach helps it? Remains to be seen, this is based on what little we know of it... But we already had three Smurfs movies in the 2010s, so it seems like it'll only do alright.

playlist for my beloved redacted babies [2]
kinda had a hard time making these but i have just made asher and geordi! + ivan and an imperium playlist
emo punk asher
really likes paramore and fall out boy in all honesty. also let’s say this playlist is all the (music) phases he has been in ever since he was a teen and now compiled with his current music taste!
him in the 2000’s was like hell for david because asher had this jukebox that he plays emo music with full volume sometimes.
david listens to ash ramble about the new blink 182 album coming out when they were young LOL and sometimes davey can’t admit that he likes some of the songs ash plays in the car.. (david’s playlist says so)
ash had loads of piercings (nipples, bottom lip, septum, etc) and those spike accessories but now took most of them off which made the holes close up :’)
loved to lie about his fake tat
geordi (kin???&:&-)
take it or leave it, this is just geordi’s (aka mine) spiralling anxiety and the playlist is just a brainrot of him
he gets one of my favourite genres and the funny haha songs that makes your brain shut off because he’s depressed and overstimulated like that
this adds to the fuel for cutie because fuck geordi’s a really tender guy and seeing how his mind works?? unfiltered? that’s just hell especially for geordi’s way of deep thinking. i see geordi as me really. but i see myself as cutie too.
mm literal brainrot
sadism’s hold ivan
hoho..hohohooh i’m fucking proud of this one
i felt a little happy and some morbid concern here but i think i did a pretty good fucking job idk
his disturbing vibe during vega’s manipulation is just fucking incredible to me. he is what my pinterest looks like.
caravan adds a nice touch to this playlist (if you watched whiplash)
ivan i love you, you my bbg but holy fuck you’re complex and i’m so attracted to it
but anyway
laplace’s angel (hurt people? hurt people!) by will wood could be his song mwa mwa + moon age for some disturbing touch!
imperium album
okay i literally have no idea why i made this but i just let it be because why not, you know??
idk what to say…LMFAOO
this playlist could be disturbing to some people so i have to put it out there to be careful!
if imperium had a trailer, i’d make abbey by mitski as the trailer soundtrack just like the ‘smile’ movie trailer, random thought but oh well
——————————
but that’s actually it, it’s nothing special! just wanted to add a little more characters that i’m familiar with and i plan to add more (vincent maybe? and all other characters) when i know more about the lore and stuff.
it’s totally fine if you don’t feel my song choices the way i do ykyk, it’s my music taste after all!! nothing wrong with that but if you do enjoy it, i appreciate you so much ^^
but yeah! you can follow my spotify to see more playlists in the future or the current ones i have aside from redacted. i hope you have a wonderful wonderful day
ps. i have a migraine so i might come back here to edit the grammar stuff so my apologies if i’m bad at the english here… xoxoxooxo
