Discovering Your Perfect Match: Tips for
Choosing a Fashion Photographer in NYC
Tumblr media
Starting Your Search
In the fashion capital of the world, finding a photographer who aligns perfectly with your brand’s vision isn’t just about luck; it's about strategy and insight. Whether you’re launching a new collection or revamping your brand’s image, the right New York City photographer can make all the difference.
Define Your Style and Vision
The first step is to clearly outline what you envision for your photoshoot. Are you looking for an edgy urban aesthetic or a classic elegance? Understanding your own needs will guide you in selecting a photographer whose artistic style matches your brand’s personality. For example, a luxury jewelry brand might seek a photographer who excels in capturing the intricate details and luxury feel, perhaps through a portfolio featuring close-up shots of exquisite pieces against the city's architectural backdrop.
Scrutinize Portfolios
A photographer’s portfolio is your window into their world. Evaluate their work for diversity, attention to detail, and storytelling ability. Look for photographers who not only have technical prowess but also a clear style that resonates with your brand. Consider a scenario where a fashion startup specializing in streetwear collaborates with a photographer known for their vibrant, street-style portraits, effectively capturing the essence of the brand’s youthful and bold designs.
Leverage Social Media and Networks
Social media platforms offer a live portfolio of a photographer’s most recent work and client interactions. Instagram, particularly, is rich with insights into a photographer's ongoing projects and style evolution. Additionally, tapping into your network for recommendations can lead to discovering photographers who have proven their ability to deliver outstanding results.
The Personal Connection
After narrowing down your choices, meet with potential photographers to discuss your project. This meeting is crucial—you’re looking for someone who isn’t just skilled but also easy to collaborate with. Their enthusiasm for your project and creative ideas can significantly influence the shoot's outcome.

Yvette Heiser : Chosen For Event Photography? Here Are a Few Tips To Follow
Regularly shooting extraordinary events isn't the glitziest task in photography, yet when a client hits you up searching for a photographic artist to shoot on an occasion, you take the work. At some point, you find yourself in a place extraordinary like the floor of the NYC Stock Trade, different times you're in a little, dim, dull occasion space with just 20 individuals making the best of the circumstance. No matter what the size or area of the occasion, your responsibility is to make a few incredible pictures. There is a great deal of seemingly insignificant details that can make jumping into exceptional occasion photography a lot more straightforward or a lot harder on yourself, beneath are a couple of thoughts on how to plan and execute your next photography event. For more tips, check out Yvette Heiser talks about-How Photography Has Evolved Over the Years
Tumblr media
1. Dress Like You Have a place There
As a photographic artist, there are a lot of times when you walk up in casuals, after all, your clients are not watching what you really do after creation. While capturing an extraordinary occasion in any case, you ought to dress like you have a place there and mix in with the group. This doesn't guarantee to mean formal attire each time, or that a coat is essential for ladies, yet slacks/dressy jeans, agreeable, relaxed, dark shoes, and a decent shirt/pullover as a rule are an unquestionable requirement. On the off chance that it is a high-end shoot, you men ought to make certain to wear formal attire while ladies ought to wear a jacket if they feel it is fundamental. On the off chance that you're uncertain of the proper clothing, and consistently decide that you are over-dressed, you can remove the coat and still be comfortable during the entire photoshoot.
2. Make Pre-occasion Efforts
While it could be a reconsideration for your client, the event organizer liable for dabbing the I's and the t's will cherish that you got shots of the venue preceding the visitor’s appearance. Not exclusively will it be something they can involve in to promote their services, but later on, it will likewise permit them to list the set-up on the off chance that they have fundamentally the same sort of occasion in the space once more. This will demonstrate significance to the client and ought to be how you start any occasion. Also read, Yvette Heiser - Beginners Guide To Taking Perfect Wedding Photographs.
3. Do not overshoot
The separation of over versus under photography seems like it would be very hazy, but it truly isn't. Assuming you are capturing an extraordinary event, you need to recall that even though incredible photographs are vital, the participants living it up is the main concern. While it is adequate to photo the participants, both truly and presented, make certain to give careful consideration of who you have captured so you're not going to similar gatherings again and again. Alongside presented shots, if the lighting considers it, knock up your ISO and shoot candid pictures with encompassing light. When you move past the drinking hour and into a gathering, hold your focus on the stage. Candid pictures or group shots are decent to a great extent, yet a decent guideline is that once the individuals are eating, keep your camera pointed away from the table and shoot decently.

Online Dating Photographer Near Me: Capturing Your Perfect Profile
In the digital age, online dating has become one of the most popular ways to meet new people. With numerous dating apps and websites at your fingertips, the competition for attention is fierce. One of the most critical aspects of making a great first impression online is having high-quality photos on your profile. This is where an online dating photographer comes in. If you're searching for "Online Dating Photographer near me," you're on the right track to enhancing your online presence and attracting more potential matches.
The Importance of Professional Photos
When it comes to online dating, first impressions matter immensely. Your profile photo is the first thing potential matches see, and it can make or break their decision to swipe right or left. Professional photos can significantly increase your chances of attracting attention for several reasons:
Quality and Clarity: Professional photographers use high-end cameras and lighting to ensure your photos are clear and well-lit. This helps highlight your best features and makes your profile stand out.
Professionalism: A professionally taken photo signals that you are serious about finding a match. It shows that you have invested time and effort into presenting yourself in the best possible light.
Variety: Photographers can capture a range of shots, from casual and candid to more formal and posed. This variety allows you to showcase different aspects of your personality and lifestyle.
Authenticity: A skilled photographer knows how to capture genuine expressions and moments. This authenticity can make you appear more approachable and relatable to potential matches.
Finding the Right Online Dating Photographer Near You
When searching for an online dating photographer, consider the following tips to find the right fit:
Portfolio: Look at the photographer’s portfolio to ensure their style matches what you envision for your profile. A diverse portfolio with various settings and styles is a good sign of versatility and creativity.
Reviews and Testimonials: Check reviews and testimonials from previous clients. Positive feedback can give you confidence in the photographer’s ability to deliver high-quality results.
Experience: An experienced photographer who specializes in online dating photos will understand the nuances of capturing shots that work well on dating platforms. They will know how to direct you and make you feel comfortable during the shoot.
Location and Convenience: Choose a photographer who is conveniently located or willing to travel to a location that suits you. This can make the process more enjoyable and less stressful.
Pricing: Consider your budget and find a photographer whose rates are within your range. Remember, this is an investment in your dating success, so it’s worth spending a little more for quality results.
Making the Most of Your Photo Session
To ensure you get the best photos possible, follow these tips for your photo session:
Dress Appropriately: Choose outfits that reflect your personality and make you feel confident. Avoid overly flashy or distracting clothing, and opt for solid colors that complement your complexion.
Be Yourself: Authenticity is key. Relax and be yourself during the shoot. A good photographer will help you feel at ease and capture your true essence.
Communicate: Discuss your goals and preferences with the photographer beforehand. This ensures they understand what you’re looking for and can tailor the session to meet your needs.
Variety: Aim for a mix of shots, including headshots, full-body shots, and lifestyle photos. This variety gives potential matches a well-rounded view of who you are.

Research from Peer Review
Nan Goldin
Tumblr media
(Above) Three Queens on Stage - Toon, So and Yogo, Bangkok , 1992
Im midway through my 1st experimental phase and now deep into my FMP. I decided to have a date to host a peer review session on zoom where I went over all the research and experiments I have so far done asked for peer review as well as peer ideas. I was given quite a few helpful suggestions, New avenues of research I hadn’t been aware of before. One that stood out to me quite prominently is that of the photographer Nan Goldin. I was suggested this artist by a student who mentioned her work featured a lot of androgyny, drag and explicit sexual freedom. I first search for a books however to buy even secondhand it was extremely expensive. I spoke to the student who originally suggested this photographer and she mentioned she may have a copy of the book and she would send me some photos from it, i’m yet to receive fees so I will discuss how it was I decided to overcome this problem. I searched online for a website, after surfing through a few on helpful sites I came across Artnet. This site featured a very full and detailed portfolio of Goldins work all thought the 20th century. A lot of the work spoke to me, A few of pieces you can find inserted below. Goldins photography is very experimental and strongly carried messages of gender and sexual freedom and androgyny. Her work is very similar to photography I have looked at in my past research this was quite reassuring as it’s told me my understanding and path was on track. At my stage in my experiments I am planning on creating fashion and illustrating profession onto plainly dressed models, in the past I’ve always drawn straight from my photos so this is quite an interesting experiment to me. Although I’ve already created free fashion designs I am planning on using key elements from Goldings work in my fourth illustration. This includes the see-through top and cone brass feature below. It has also inspired a future experiment composition where I will draw a person with a very feminine face and very masculine body and a very masculine face paired with a very feminine body, this is inspired also by one of the photos below.

Below is a YouTube video interviewing Goldin, it was sent to me by one of the students who watched my zoom peer review meeting. I watched it and created a note pad full of notes which I will post below. The video and the knowledge I developed watching it has really aided my development and understanding of Androgyny and the messages I want to convey.

Can we talk about how hard it is for people with shoe size 10 and up to find heels? I guess women are supposed to be delicate flowers with tiny ass feet. For anyone who knows the struggle all too well, I’ve made a list of brands who carry big sizes.
At age 10 I was already wearing size 10 shoes, As she forces my feet down a 9.5 my mother would say “ fòk ou mary on kòdonye wi!” (you need to marry a shoemaker). Back then, I was never into heels or proper shoes so I wore sneakers. However, as I entered my 20’s, my fashionista side came out.  In addition to struggling to find size 12 heels, wearing a prosthesis also limits the kind of heels I can wear:
Nothing higher than 3 inches
If they are boots , they need to have zippers
No thin or toothpick heels
I’m no expert but after 10 years of struggling, here  is a solid list of places to shop for beautiful statement heels.
For the shopper on a budget:
Payless: Can’t expect to get great quality shoes from them but sometimes you find statement shoes and it’s great for a last minute go-to.
Zappos and 6pm: have to spend countless hours looking but the prices are decent.
Target: Which I always pronounce with a French accent, (nothing but respect for my president.) you would be surprised by how many cute shoes they have, quality is not the best but for a last minute event, it can be a savior. (the kitten heels below are from Target)
Tumblr media
Amazon is a gem if you use the right search term you will find something. I recently bought 4 pairs (red, yellow, blue & orange) of colorful gogo boots, which go up to a size women 16 btw, UNHEARD OF. (pictured below)
Mid price range:
Banana Republic goes up to a size 12
Nine West: they never have my size in stores so I never bothered checking out their website until recently when I spotted the boots below. Goes up to a 12
Shoes from Nine West
Shoes from Nine West
DSW: if you scroll long enough you will find a couple of statement shoes like the one im wearing in the photograph below.
Tumblr media
Shoes from DSW
Able to splurge:
IRINYC carries several unisex platform shoes, I currently own 2 pairs and I love how comfortable they are.
Tumblr media
Miista unfortutaley carries up to a size 11 but I love their minimalist yet sttaemtn designs
Shopbop: a third party website that carried several brands
Syro: a  gender neutral shoe brand  created with queer folks in mind. They go up to a size 14 men (16 women)
Luxury:
The real Real, is great for second hand luxury shoes they carry heels up to a size o13 but they go fast so if you see something jump on it.
Stuart Weitzman not my top favorite but they carry up to Size 12
Maison Margiela: goes up to a size 11, I’m currently obsessed with their signature cow toe boots in red. Good news is that they have heels for men that go up to a size US men 13 aka US women 15
Current favorites in size 11
Transparent  Sandals from Zappos come in black or silver up to size 11. Snake skin or white booties from Zappos. These flowery boots are definitely a head turner, weather you’re heading to a sunflower field, road tripping down south or simply Autumning in NYC. These half teal half brown boots and these to-die-for Calvin Klein. and finally these classic pump, from Miista.
I really didn’t have trouble finding size 11 so let’s see some 12+ finds.
Current favorites in Size 12+
These beaut  with 3 1/4 heels in maroon. These 4in heels come in black matte, flowery red and fur and guess what they? go up to a size 13
These Sandals with amazing print currently have 13. If you have the luxury to splurge or a sugar daddy or two these Balenciaga boots could prob raise the dead. The gogo boots I previously mentioned come in a gazillion colors and go up to a size 16, I think they run a bit small, I bought size 12 and plan on exchanging for 13.
If you can wear heels higher than 3 inches, bravo,  your options will be wider than mine.
Tips:
Mama ain’t raise no fool so when you shop online, always filter by size that way you don’t get disappointed.
If you are delusional enough to go shop in stores, don’t waste your time looking around, ask someone who works there what’s  the biggest size they carry, they will probably say 10, say thank you and make a graceful exit.
ALWAYS check the men’s section. They are often more comfortable and if you happen to go to a party I guarantee no other woman will have the same shoes.
When you finally find your size don’t overthink, take it and go, you can always return them.
A brand might not have your size on their website but might sell their big sizes through a third party website, so  if you see shoes you like but not in your size google  style name + brand + the size you are looking for.
Don’t. sleep. on. Amazon
If you wear size 12, look for brands that cater to trans women or make gender neutral shoes or heels for men.
Don’t look for shoes when you need them. Women with big feet don’t have the luxury of going into random stores to find shoes last minute, therefore constantly look online and when you find a gem …refer to tip #4
Don’t be afraid to stop strangers  with big feet and ask them where they got their shoes.
Know your foreign sizing especially  Europe/Italy , UK and France. Several European brands wether it’s ASOS or luxury brand like Gucci and Maison Margiela carry big sizes. Problem is, they always have limited big sizes, by the time you’re googling the size conversion chart, someone has already clicked the purchase button. I know I sound dramatic but if you wear size 12 and up you know everyone your size is just following tip #4
Lastly, if you have some favorite places you get shoes from or more tips, comment them below or on my instagram under the picture announcing this post.
-Mama Cax
No country for boring shoes Can we talk about how hard it is for people with shoe size 10 and up to find heels?

13 Off-the-Beaten-Path Things to See and Do in Paris
Tumblr media
Posted: 6/24/2019 | June 24th, 2019
Paris is filled with famous attractions: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Versailles, the catacombs, the Pantheon, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre-Coeur. The list goes on. There are so many amazing sites here that you could spend days (heck, even weeks) just seeing the main, most well-known ones.
But there’s more to Paris than the sites that attract thousands upon thousands of visitors each day. While I was living Paris the past few months, I made it my mission to see some of the more unusual, lesser-known (but equally awesome) attractions (that didn’t coming with the aggravating crowds that make so many of Paris’ attractions unbearable).
And, while some of the things on the list below might not be “super secret” attractions or activities, they do fall into the category of “over looked attractions” so I included them.
Here are some of the best off-the-beaten-path things to see and do in Paris:
1. Le Manoir de Paris
This is where macabre museum meets haunted house. Numerous rooms highlight some of the more unsettling aspects of Paris’s long and often dark past, such as the Phantom of the Opera, vampires, or the crocodiles in the sewers. Using real actors as well as animatronics, the city’s gruesome and unsettling history is brought to life in an interesting way. In addition to their museum, they also have escape rooms as well as different levels of intensity depending on how scared you get!
18 Rue de Paradis, +33 6 70 89 35 87, lemanoirdeparis.com. Open Fridays 6pm-9:30pm and weekends 3pm-6:30pm. Admission is 29 EUR for adults and 20 EUR for children 10-15.
2. Musée Édith Piaf
Édith Piaf is perhaps the most famous French singer from the 1930s to the 1960s, and know around the world for her song La vie en rose and Non, je ne regrette rien (which appeared in the movie Inception). She lived in a little apartment in the Ménilmontant district at the start of her career, which has been turned into tiny museum dedicated to her. You get a glimpse at her life through her gold and platinum records, photographs, clothing, letters from fans, posters, recordings, and sheet music.
5 Rue Crespin du Gast, +33 1 43 55 52 72. Open Monday-Wednesday 1pm-6pm and Thursdays 10am-12pm. Admission is free, but you’ll need to make an appointment. You’ll also want to either speak decent French or go with someone who does.
3. Musée Curie
Tumblr media
Marie Curie was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize (and the only woman to win it twice) for her research into radioactivity (a word that she invented). She was the first female professor at the University of Paris as well as the first woman to be entombed in the Panthéon on her own merits. Located in the 5th arrondissement, this museum, in her old laboratory, highlights her radiological research. It’s insightful and eye-opening for anyone unfamiliar with her historic discoveries.
1 Rue Pierre et Marie Curie, +33 1 56 24 55 33, musee.curie.fr. Open Wednesday-Saturday 1pm-5pm. Admission is free.
4. Archives Nationales
Tumblr media
Opened in 1867, the National Archives houses thousands of historical documents dating back to 625 CE. One of six national archives in the country, the museum sheds light on France’s turbulent past, providing nuanced historical details and context through permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Built by the order of Napoleon I, the building itself (known as the Hôtel de Soubise) is absolutely stunning. It is in the late Baroque style, embracing long columns and lots of statues and sculptures. It features immaculate grounds and gardens as well. They always hold a lot of good exhibitions too.
59 Rue Guynemer, +33 1 75 47 20 02, archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/en. Open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm. Admission is 8 EUR per person.
5. The Gallery of Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy
Tumblr media
Opened in 1898, this museum is home to over 1,000 animal skeletons from around the world, including complete skeletons of elephants, large cats, and even dinosaurs. It’s as interesting as it is unsettling: all the animals are facing the same way, making it look like you’re in the midst of some undead stampede!
2 Rue Buffon, +33 1 40 79 56 01, http://bit.ly/2B0lruZ. Open daily 10am-6pm (closed Tuesdays). Admission is free.
6. The Vampire Museum
Paris has a long history with the esoteric, one that is brought to life in this fascinating (if not macabre) museum founded by an eccentric scholar to showcase his knowledge of the undead and esoteric. Here you’ll find vampire-killing kits, rare texts on demonology, and mysterious ancient relics. It’s a busy, eclectic, creepy museum that’s a feast for the eyes and one worthy of a visit if you’re at all interested in more obscure (and fanciful) tales. It’s a fun little, kitsch museum.
14 Rue Jules David, +33 1 43 62 80 76, artclips.free.fr/musee_des_vampires/MuseeVampires1.html. You’ll need to make an appointment in advance by phone. (Don’t worry if the voicemail greeting is in French — the curator speakers perfect English).
7. Petite Ceinture
Tumblr media
In use from 1862 through 1964, the railway circling Paris was abandoned when the city expanded beyond its limits. It’s mostly hidden behind buildings and covered in wild plants and grass now, though some sections are now officially open to the public. You’ll find all sorts of flowers and street art along the tracks.
While some sections are illegal to visit, near Parc Georges Brassens you’ll find a section of the tracks known as the ‘Passage de la Petite Ceinture’ that is both free and legal to visit. It’s located in the 15e arrondissement.
8. The Salvador Dalí Sundial
Tumblr media
This surrealist sundial was created by world-renowned artist Salvador Dalí. Located on Rue Saint-Jacques, it’s is a mix of a human face and a scallop shell (the symbol of the Camino to Santiago, since the street is named after the saint). While the sundial doesn’t actually work, it’s nevertheless an easy way to see a piece of artwork by one of the most famous artists in the world.
27 Rue Saint-Jacques. Open 24/7 with no admission.
9. Montmartre Cemetery
Tumblr media
While the Père Lachaise Cemetery is the largest and most popular in Paris, for a more secluded stroll, check out the Montmartre Cemetery. Plenty of people visit the top of Montmartre for Sacré-Coeur and the view, but few take the time to wander this cemetery sitting at the foot of the district. It opened in 1825 and is home to many cobwebbed mausoleums, as well as a handful of stray cats. You won’t see many people here, so you can explore in peace.
20 Avenue Rachel, +33 1 53 42 36 30, paris.fr/equipements/cimetiere-de-montmartre-5061. Open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm, Saturdays 8:30am-6pm, and Sundays 9am-6pm.
10. The Museum of Counterfeiting
Tumblr media
Opened in 1972, this museum is home to counterfeit items that have been collected by France’s customs agents and police (as well as donated items from brands and consumers alike). There are over 500 items in the museum, ranging from counterfeit art and luxury goods to more mundane items, like cleaning supplies. While some knockoffs are impressive in their duplicity, it’s also funny to see just how bad some counterfeiters were!
16 Rue de la Faisanderie, +33 1 56 26 14 03, musee-contrefacon.com. Open Monday-Saturday 2pm-5:30pm. Admission is 6 EUR per person for adults and 5 EUR for students and seniors.
11. Promenade Planteé (Coulée verte René-Dumont)
Tumblr media
This tree-lined walkway is a greenbelt that extends almost 5km along the old Vincennes railway line. The railway line ceased functioning in 1969, with the park being inaugurated a few decades afterward. Until New York built their High Line, it was the only elevated park in the entire world. (And, honestly, this is way nicer the the NYC High Line). You’ll find lots of trees, flowers, ponds, and places to sit along this long path that stretches from Bastile to the edge of Paris. It’s al ong really easy and beautiful walk. You won’t find many people here. Even on a nice day, it’s rather empty. It quickly became one of my favorite things to do in Paris and I can’t recommend coming here enough!
1 Coulée verte René-Dumont (12th arrondissement). Open daily from 8am-9:30pm. Admission is free.
12. Canal Saint-Martin
Tumblr media
Stretching 4.5km, the Canal Saint-Martin is a man-made waterway commissioned by Napoleon. Construction finished in 1825, connecting the Canal de l’Ourcq to the Seine via both above ground locks and underground tunnels. While not any secret spot (on a nice day, you’ll find the canal lined with people), it’s mostly a spot for locals who want to have a picnic and relax. So, say no to the Siene, and come have your outdoor picnic along the canal. It’s more relaxing and there will be fewer people!
The canal starts at Place de Stalingrad and ends at Quai de la Râpée. Canal cruises last 2.5 hours and cost around 16 EUR per person.
13. Museé de Montmartre
Tumblr media
Founded in 1960, this museum is located throughout two building that date back to the 17th century. Over the years, the buildings were home to many famous writers and painters. The gardens of the museum were actually renovated to look more like the gardens in Renoir’s paintings (there is also a vineyard nearby that dates back to the Middle Ages but it makes horrible wine). The museum’s permanent collection includes a wide variety of paintings, posters, and drawings.
12 Rue Cortot, +33 1 49 25 89 39, museedemontmartre.fr/en/le-musee. Open daily from 10am-6pm (7pm in the summer). Admission is 12 EUR for adults, which includes an audio guide. Discounts are available for students, children, and persons with disabilities.

While the main sights in Paris are always worth checking out, but if you want to be more than a tourist and develop a greater appreciation for the City of Light’s unique and complex history, visit these unconventional and unusual attractions in Paris.
Book Your Trip to Paris: Logistical Tips and Tricks
Book Your Flight Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner or Momondo. They are my two favorite search engines because they search websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is left unturned.
Book Your Accommodation You can book your hostel with Hostelworld. If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com as they consistently return the cheapest rates for guesthouses and cheap hotels. I use them all the time. Some of my favorite places to stay in Paris are:
St. Christopher’s Canal – Comfy spot on the canal. During the summer months, the terrace is hopping!
3 Ducks Hostel – This hostel has one of the cheapest bars in the city, and it’s just a 10-minute walk to the Eiffel Tower.
Les Piaules – Fantastic chimney lounge, a cool bar, and a rooftop space. It’s a great place to meet people!
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. I’ve been using World Nomads for ten years. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:
World Nomads (for everyone below 70)
Insure My Trip (for those over 70)

One of the coolest under-the-radar NYC shows all year, and maybe of all time, 'Taryn Simon: The Color of a Flea’s Eye (The Picture Collection)' is on view through May 15, 2022. The exhibition catalog from @cahiersdart is suitably amazing. It presents a history of the @nyplpicturecollection — a legendary trove of more than 1 million prints, photographs, postcards, posters & images from disused books and periodicals. Since its inception in 1915, the Picture Collection has been a vital resource for writers, historians, artists, filmmakers, fashion designers and advertising agencies. Simon highlights the impulse to organize visual information, and points to the invisible hands behind seemingly neutral systems of image gathering. Each of her photos is made up of an array of images selected from a given subject folder, such as Chiaroscuro, Handshaking, Haircombing, Express Highways, Financial Panics, Israel & Beards and Mustaches. In artfully overlapped compositions, only slices of the individual images are visible, each fragment suggesting its whole. Simon sees this extensive archive of images as the precursor to internet search engines. Such an unlikely futurity in the past is at the core of the Picture Collection. The digital is foreshadowed in the analogue, at the same time that history—its classifications, its contents—seems the stuff of projection. Simon spent years sifting through letters, memos and records that reveal an untold story between the library and artists, media, government and a broader public. These documents also divulge the removal and transfer of photographs from the democratically circulating picture-collection folders to the photography collection in the late 1980s when their marketplace value became apparent. Simon’s selection of photographs from these transfers highlights gender, immigration, race and economy in America alongside the technical development of photography. Produced in direct collaboration with the artist, the book contains 57 individually hand tipped-in plates, numerous gatefolds and a variety of unique papers, as well as essays by @joshuachuang @nypl & @timgriffinnyc More via linkinbio. #tarynsimon #colorofafleaseye https://www.instagram.com/p/CYheo7mp3FR/?utm_medium=tumblr

Always Pack a Party Dress by Amanda Brooks
“I sure wish it would happen to me.” That’s what I thought when reading Amanda Brooks’ Always Pack a Party Dress. Brooks was at dinner with her family one evening in college at a restaurant owned by a relative of Patrick Demarchelier, the famous fashion photographer whom Brooks admired, when she learned that he was at the restaurant. She introduced herself, and he invited her to watch one of his shoots at his studio the next day. When she got there the following day, the shoot had been canceled, but Demarchelier showed her around and offered her an internship, leading to a three year working relationship. After college, Brooks landed her first job at a prestigious art gallery she’d sent her application to after she was trying on a pair of shoes at a store and the gallery owner walked in. Recognizing him, she introduced herself and he invited her for an interview. She got the job. (As a recent college graduate in search of a job, I could only dream that something like this would happen to me - HIRE ME PLEASE? Someone?) Moving to a different area of the creative field, Brooks became the creative director of accessories at Fekkai, launching her “half life” in fashion that saw her consulting and working as a creative director for designer brands like Tuleh and department stores like Barney’s. Along the way, Brooks has successes (scoring her dream job as creative director of Barney’s), failures (messing up a photo shoot after getting on location for the shoot and realizing they can’t use the location), mishaps (arriving at the Met Gala in a minivan) and humbling experiences (getting a benign cancer removed from her nose, leading to stress, stitches and a visit to a plastic surgeon to get the hole in her nose covered). She has requisite I-can’t-believe-that-happened moments like getting invited to Madonna’s birthday party after Demarchelier shot her album cover; a story that leads to the book’s title because Brooks realized that she had nothing to wear for a night out at the birthday party. She has real moments, like realizing that her dream job is too much and more than she’s originally bargained for, even taking a physical toll on her health during Paris Fashion Week. That’s not all. In between these incredible moments, Brooks meets the Englishman Christopher Brooks, gets married and has two children. After she quits her job at Barney’s, they move out to Christopher’s family farm in Oxfordshire. There she finds the peace and quiet and room for introspection that she never had in the hustle and bustle of NYC. Always Pack a Party Dress is Brooks’ memoir of her time in the fashion industry, but it’s more than that. It’s full of fashion advice, such as her 10 tips sprinkled throughout the book, and career advice as well that even young professionals not in the fashion industry can learn from. The book is sort of styled like a magazine, with stories and chapters surrounded by colorful photos and sidebar sections with her style tips and fashion inspirations. It’s a quaint, lovely book containing beautiful stories and photos, and even stays relatable when talking about people and clothing items that don’t seem very relatable to the majority of people, an impressive feat I applaud.

What is Motion Graphics? – The Complete Guide
What exactly do 2D motion graphics mean ? And what do they actually serve to accomplish?
2D Motion Graphics is a kind of digital animation that offers motion (and the feeling of living) to pictures. The images can be directly derived by digital resources. They could be original art or photographs or vectors etc.basically any digital image can be used as a basis for. The real power is in the manipulation of the image(s) which transforms an image of a person to a dynamic persona, or even a stock photo into the form of a video clip that is pulsating or even a photograph to a moving video clip and so on. Utilizing 2D Motion Graphics, a designer can design complete video commercials, short films and more.
Tumblr media
What is motion graphics?
What's the most important advantage of two-dimensional motion graphics?
This is a significant benefit that was not available until recently. It's possible to do this using an ordinary computer. With a PC with adequate specs and a high-quality processor, you can create quality animations. There's also advantages 2D Motion Graphics has over other forms in animation. Traditional animation can be slow and be difficult to convert to digital. Although you can make 3D animation using personal computers it will require more time, which means processing power.
What industries benefit from 2-D motion graphic technology?
Each and every individual. Absolutely. It's the cheapest alternative for anyone looking to stand out with video. 2-D motion Graphics are used in advertisements or film as well as explainer videos and technology video, television commercials and many other. Every media business requires 2D motion Graphics content.
Where to Begin
The most crucial thing you should make is to select the correct software you require learn. The majority of influencers and animators recommend learning about their Adobe program. I totally agree with the advice. It is my opinion that Adobe Creative Suite is the industry standard, and is an all-in-one solution that covers every aspect of 2D Motion Graphics Animation.
how do I become a motion graphic designer
The software you'll need to be paying attention to is:
Adobe After Effects. This is the program that you employ for animating stages.
Adobe Illustrator. It is where you can create vector images (images which can be scaled to any size, with no loss of quality) to be used for animation.
Adobe Photoshop. Everyone has been familiar with Photoshop. It is true that it permits you to modify and edit images, but it also lets users to create raster images that can become animated.
Adobe Premiere Pro. It will allow you to record everything you've done in video format by using this.
Alongside Adobe Suite Another helpful tool to master could include Cinema 4D. It's not an Adobe product, but it's a popular one and is worth keeping track of. However, it doesn't require an expert user to use it.
Selecting the right hardware for your personal computer
Is it the best motion graphics computer?
When you choose a computer to use, you'll have four main parameters to consider. When selecting the right machine there are four primary aspects to consider.
1. CPU
2. RAM
3. VGA
4. HARD DRIVE
Find out more particulars of the equipment you'll need here.
What NOT To Do
Before you dive involved, you should go through these tips. I can guarantee you that it will be the most efficient method to reduce your time, money, and frustration in the long run.
Do not just search "Top 2D Motion Graphics Animation" for advice.
It's an arduous concept to comprehend, and it's crucial to understand. Google is amazing however it's not able remain in all places at all times. This means that it isn't able to evaluate how well motion graphics are and doesn't consider written articles as the most effective outcomes. In reality, it will see results from people who are skilled at writing SEO. This means you'll receive a lot of clickbait as well as people who are SEO experts, but not examples of a great 2-D motion graphics. This is the reason why you'll start with the wrong idea that you're looking at what you must master, not what you need to learn to achieve. Instead of looking through a maze of sources, I'll present you with some excellent sources at the end of the article.
After Effects isn't "Motion Graphics" and vice versa
Some novices (and beyond) believe that they're employing motion graphics. After Effects are the same thing , and can be substituted with the other. I'm certain you'll be able to be confident that I'm here to provide you with what's real. You'll look like a novice if you switch between them. After Effects is a software. Motion graphics is a method of animation. You should learn each, but remember that it's a technique , and the other involves art.
Motion graphic inspiration 7 websites to inspire the imagination of your. Platforms, designers and companies platforms, as well as many other sites listed here that are all focused on motion-related designs, graphics and motion. Get your creativity flowing and stimulate through motion in the most efficient method using the most reliable sources.
Here's what you need to be aware of about motion graphics
Branding
If it boils to selecting the best design, layout and color for your company's brand, motion graphics play a role for making these aspects seem more authentic. The majority of motion graphics revolves around the business's values and goals and then understanding how they can be conveyed digitally and then creating the artwork that is produced.
If it comes to branding, an effective animated video that communicates the company's vision can go a long way. For instance, Google Chrome uses its attractive style of design and its four colors that create a lively tone that makes it apart from its competition. They push branding to the next level by demonstrating the way Google Chrome is a fast and reliable internet browser . It does this by using animations of a shorter time, e.g., through motion graphics.
If you incorporate motion graphics in branding strategies, businesses can rapidly improve their audio or visual appeal. This is a matter of the creation of a more persuasive place to proclaim, "We're better than the rest!" Without putting too much effort into it and using the very best creative thinking.
Telling A Story
If we were to identify the winning method of marketing, it's a guaranteed method to highlight the art of telling stories. It's because selling a product or service isn't just about the worth of the product you're selling but more about how valuable it is for consumers.
If the marketing strategy to the limits, you need to be aware that you're selling to people. People tend to be emotional and have stories to share. The more authentic your story is the more attractive it is to potential customers which will increase the chances that they will convert.
Motion graphics can assist in telling stories through the use of appropriate methods and formats that produce an immersive visual experience that is attractive and exciting. Take a look at the vast distinction between static images and the visual representation of something. Which is more efficient?
While images are sure to create emotions, motion graphics are the norm.
Explaining Concepts
At times, the topic is so complex that it's easier to present information visually rather than orally. This is because complex concepts are much easier to comprehended by looking at pictures. Many times businesses that attempt to explain how an item functions are more effective in explaining the process with animations in contrast to writing using static images.
Motion graphics can be among the most efficient ways to create engaging video tutorials and explanations. They are ideal for illustrating important concepts. For instance how bitcoin and blockchain work, and how a particular company can assist you in making better choices when it comes to investing in these options.
In addition to the development of motion-based graphics audio within motion graphics may allow businesses to give "their side of the story" and allow users to see the facts from a different viewpoint.
Raising Awareness
In the early stages of a brand's life, it is crucial to establish the brand's name. In particular what are the company or brand looking to resolve an problem? Is it an organization that is not for profit and has an issue that is of significance? Whatever it is, motion graphics should be a part of those organizations working to make a statement.
Tools like Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects can add energy and power in any communication. It doesn't matter if the issue is sustainability on a global scale or a local issue in the community on an individual level. Leave motion graphics to stimulate actions.
Try Motion Graphics Yourself
For people who are just getting started with learning about Motion Graphics, it's crucial to begin with the basics. Learn about motion editing as well as video editing and special effects by following the right courses. We offer Interactive video editing classes along with After effects courses in NYC and can help in the process of establishing yourself using practical projects, techniques taught by industry experts , and personalized focus. Start now!
The guide here is crucial and helpful for animators who are just beginning their careers with motion graphics software
The ability to create motion-based images using personal computers is still a nascent idea. Motion graphics in 2D have been around for a short period of time, and there aren't any options for those who are only beginning. It's easy to lose track and then take a wrong path and lose a substantial amount of time in just beginning. My aim is to help you in avoiding the mistakes as best it is possible.
This is why I've put together this guide to assist you.
I've been involved with animation for more than 10 years -- basically since the moment it started becoming possible with personal computers that could make motion. I've learned many tricks and techniques, but have also made more mistakes than I can be able to count on my journey. I'm aware of how challenging it is to start up and how challenging it can be for someone who isn't experienced. Sure, you'll face some stressful situations initially, but I'm hoping that this guide will help you save considerable time as well as stress and money!

April Activities 2021
Tumblr media
The major news of the month? I can’t believe I get to be fully vaccinated. It’s hard to describe how incredible it feels but I’m so ready to really start this next phase and I can’t wait for everyone I love to feel this feeling soon. Here’s what went down last month.
Here are my favourite tweets from last month. Also, I’ve decided to compile the best tweets list every two weeks rather than only once a month mostly because I love re-reading them and want that sort of joy in my life twice a month, not just once.
I did Nathan’s podcast and we talked about Rogers, sex robots & god only knows what else.
Two new nail polishes that I bought and love: English Lavender by butter and Cold Brew Crew by essie. Beautiful colours.
I’ve made this lamb ragu from Alison Roman twice so far, it’s so luxurious but somehow easy to make. I’ve put it on tagliatelle as well as zucchini noodles and both have been wonderful. Small tip: it does get better after it sits in the fridge for a bit, for some reason. (Also, the recipe doesn’t call for it, but I added basil at the end. I tend to add basil anytime something calls for parsley because it’s just so much more flavourful and fun.)
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Alison Roman’s lamb ragu
I want to buy new underwear and I’m looking for any suggestions that aren’t Victoria’s Secret, Aerie or The Gap. I might just bite the bullet and try the ones from Blush (love love love the models they use).
I tried the strawberry short cake soft serve from Milk Bar and it was heavenly. The soft serve is even better than the strawberry cake (although the cookie crumbles within the cake always make my knees weak). In fact, I’ve yet to try a Milk Bar soft serve that I didn’t love (their vegan apple pie soft serve was out of this world), should I have been buying their pints this whole time? Yes.
I gave a chance to Ouai’s Air Dry Foam and it didn’t impress me or anyone else for that matter, so I guess I’ll just stick with the Wave Spray instead.
The rain boots that I bought a few years ago from Winners have disintegrated and I’m in search of new ones, but please don’t recommend Hunter ones. I hate Hunter. Open to any other suggestions!
Influenced by a TikTok video, I bought Falscara and holy shit. I know I promise this a lot, but I’m going to do a video on it so you can see how good a product it is. So many videos are coming, I vow.
There milk chocolate coconut almonds from CVS are UNHOLY.
I tried a sample of Glamglow’s Glowstarter moisturizer and was pleasantly surprised at how it really does give you a pleasant glow. What’s that about.
It’s uncivil how expensive body suit/swimwear hangers are. Who is this benefiting? I just want to hang my delicate bodysuits and carry on with my day.
Trader Joe’s has started selling their own vodka and I’m hoping they’ll start to sell it in New York soon. Seems weird that they don’t already.
I tried a small sample of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Elixir and discovered that the true magic behind the elixir is how she got anyone to believe that it does anything at all. Makeup products truly enrage me at times.
Nathan and I went to a movie theatre and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. We saw Godzilla vs. Kong and I found myself beaming through every inane scene. Perfect movie to see after a year of no theatres. Would I ever watch it again? Good lord no.
I bought a lotion bar from Gift Box on Broadway in Astoria and I love it. I think I’d use it more if it were slightly smaller and more manageable, but I love it nonetheless.
I tried Rao’s spaghetti and it was incredible, so now I’m forced to seek out their other types of pasta. Such a quality pasta.
I ate at The Pineapple Club and the basil fried rice and frozen pina coladas were both outrageously good.
I bought this bag from Zara and I’m honestly nervous to even wear it out for some weird reason. Like, am I the person who would have a bag like this? Do I want to be that person? Am I feeling this way because of having nowhere to go for so long? Have I always been this fearful? Some of these questions I shouldn’t answer, I realize.
Just bought these shoes in tan and I think I have my life all figured out now. Now if I can just leave the house wearing said shoes and holding said bag.
Speaking of shoes, I truly can’t decide if I love or loathe these slippers.
Last shoe thing: head over HEELS (not sorry) in love with these feet hugging sandals. Should’ve bought four more pairs.
I made these chocolate banana muffins and they were great but the real standout is the recipe at the bottom for the salted honey butter. Christ, you should make that butter.
I perused Molly Baz’s new cookbook and it’s a big one. Some standout recipes: The Big Italian salad, a dilly horseradish cream sauce for shrimp, and of course her caesar salad recipe.
I never thought I’d be the type of person to buy fake plants, but this one is so lifelike and pretty that I had to get it. Plus it’s perfect for the top of a bookshelf.
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Fake plant from Target
It’s ramp season and I couldn’t be happier about it, you’ll hear more about my ramp creations next month.
I watched This is a Robbery on Netflix and don’t waste your time. Yes, it’s an interesting story, but save yourself a few hours and go read this instead.
I’m watching The Nanny and loving it. I’ve only ever watched a few episodes growing up, and I thought I would hate it because of how much everyone makes fun of Fran’s voice but her voice is fine! It’s wild that anyone ever said it was annoying. Also, the theme song is catchy as hell.
I rewatched Speed and it’s, of course, still great. What can’t Keanu do.
I watched the 90s movie The Crush and it’s really weird that movies like that would never have a chance being made today.
I’m all caught up on Riverdale now and… it’s hard to remember when it was really good. Maybe it was all Skeet Ulrich? Was that the main draw in my mind? I can see that making sense. In any case, it’s taken a turn.
There’s something so inviting about having good washroom rugs, I just got these soft-as-hell Threshold ones and I’ll never buy another brand again.
I visited the midtown Ideal Cheese Shop (been meaning to forever) and it’s such a great spot for NYC delicacies as well as, obviously, cheese. They had pre-packed bacon from Peter Luger and salmon from Daniel Boulud.
Things are already changing fast with new restrictions loosing in NYC, but did you know you can rent out a bar for an hour?
I tried the breakfast Beyond Meat sausage patties and surprise, surprise, they’re great. There’s nothing this company can do wrong. I’m becoming suspicious.
I got drinks and some small bites at Bar Dalia in Astoria and what a sweet little place! Would go again.
I finally got my hands on the kitchen-scented mini candles from Trader Joe’s (the scents are lemongrass, tomato leaf, fresh mint). They fill me with joy, unfortunately. I also got their grapefruit scented body butter, which goes on very smoothly but I’ve noticed it has a scent that’s slightly off-putting over time. I will not dwell on that fact further.
Had no idea that Banza made a pizza crust but I tried it and it’s wonderful.
I love seeing what promotional giveaways are planned for the upcoming baseball season but since we’re technically still in a pandemic, the Mets are only releasing what the promotions are each month (makes sense). So I’ve bookmarked the page to go look at on the first of each month.
I don’t eat a ton of fast food, but I’m sorry, some of these are genius ideas.
I’ll regret it if I don’t buy a box of these, right?
I know that it’s common to read an article about something and feel “that’s me!” but this one really resonates with me: “There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing.”
The best brand at Target: A New Day.
Love and fully agree with all of this woman’s questions about things that don’t make sense.
I was walking past a Home Depot in Queens and the smell of the sandwiches at Rocco’s was heavenly. I had just eaten, otherwise I would have leaped into line. Must remember to get a Philly cheese steak here next time. The Yelp reviews are calling me.
I bought this earring organizer from The Container Store and it’s perfect. Fully recommend. I also finally got a purse organizer and some shoe boxes that make me feel like I might be a successful woman in her prime.
Tumblr media

Above Photo: Left: purse storage holder, Right: shoe storage boxes, Not Shown: me, opening & closing my closet door ten times to bask in my new found organizational skills
I had no idea Zara had a home section. I wish I didn’t have this knowledge, but now that I do, you must too. Literally ALL of these glasses are gorgeous. Tempted to go smash each glass in my kitchen cupboard right this instant.
This Artist Faked Being a Billionaire to Photograph New York City's Best Views - such a great idea, such great photos. How was it not me who came up with this?
Some more spring recipes I’m dying to make:
Ramp & Ricotta Tart
Grilled Asparagus Caesar Salad
Lemon Poppy Seed Cake
Scallop Risotto with Lemon & Sweet Peas
Grilled Caprese Skewers with Halloumi and Sourdough
Some things that I’m looking forward to this month: the new/final season of Shrill comes out this week (!), I might be going to a Mets game (!!), dying to eat at Under The Volcano, really want to visit the new Dippin' Dots store, I’ve been craving a good club sandwich for months so I might try to get brunch at Mark’s Off Madison, I know it might be early but I can’t wait to go tan on Governors Island soon, and at some point I’d really love to take one of these pasta cooking classes.

New York’s Hudson: The River That Flows Two Ways Photographer and Summary Author: Ray Boren
A key to the region’s settlement and prosperity, New York State’s Hudson River also has been a dynamic shaper of its landscape for millions of years. The river’s contemporary source has been traced to Lake Tear of the Clouds, high in the Adirondack Mountains. It flows 315 miles (507 km) to the southern tip of New York City’s Manhattan Island and New York Harbor, one of the largest and busiest ports in the world.
In the photograph here, taken on Oct. 10, 2017, a barge is being pushed north and up the Hudson River by a tugboat. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, linking Poughkeepsie on the river’s east side and Highland, N.Y., on the west, is in the distance. The view south is from the elevated Walkway Over the Hudson, the old Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge, an 1889 span damaged by fire in 1974 but restored as a 1.28-mile (2-km) linear pedestrian path and park in 2009. A second image shows the winding Hudson from a perspective near the summit of Bear Mountain State Park, looking east toward New York’s Peekskill area — and a rising full Moon — just after sunset on Oct. 4, 2017.
For half of its length (153 miles/246 km.) the Hudson is also an estuary, in which brackish water from the Atlantic Ocean is propelled upstream during high tides. Because of this, some local Native American tribes, like the Mahicans, Lenape and Mohicans, called it Muh-he-kun-ne-tuk, Mahicantuck, or other variations, often translated to mean “river that flows two ways.” Henry Hudson, an English mariner and explorer in the employ of the Dutch East India Company, entered the river in 1609 while searching for the fabled Northwest Passage through or around North America to Asia. Today the river is named for him.
The stream’s course, depth and width, through the Hudson River Valley, was much influenced by the Pleistocene Ice Ages, extending back about 2 million years and continuing most recently to roughly 12,000 years ago. A vast ice sheetrepeatedly advanced and retreated across much of northern North America, including New York, during that span. The ancient Hudson River sliced through a complex, rocky landscape, including lowlands underlain by Lower and Middle Paleozoic shales and carbonate rocks. The river was heading for the sea, the Atlantic Ocean — which was 50 to 100 miles (80-160 km) farther away from Manhattan Island than it is today because so much of Earth’s water was locked up in the epoch’s glacial ice.

We did not have a specific theme while planning @!%*))~black and gold wedding dress
Brenda: I wanted all of my guests to enjoy our wedding favours regardless of age, so I decided to create series of rustic favours to cater to the different age groups. For the young ones, I imported daffy apple caramel kits from the United States of America and got my wedding party to assemble them. The young adults received organic chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that were beautifully packed in glass jars. I work at the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and thought it was an excellent idea to have my adult beneficiaries bake the cookies for favours. That way, the proceeds go to a good cause! Lastly, for the older adults, I had a local hydroponic farm deliver over 80 pots of various herbs like rosemary, basil, oregano and mint to my wedding venue and got my friends to help me assemble them. Using lightweight ultra-luxurious fabrics, Sareh Nouri crafts gowns with impeccable structure and fit. This season, the designer works with unique laces, glistening florals, and three-dimensional details to create her signature graceful, feminine look. Rich, intricate lace nods to vintage lace gowns, and ethereal tulle skirts gives gowns a touch of modern whimsy, especially in a soft, dove grey ball gown embroidered with roses wedding dresses advice. Long lace sleeves give the dresses a demure femininity, but using unique laces and pairing the sleeves with ball gown skirts or a whimsical skirt overlay keep the looks far from being staid. To capture spring's bright air of romance, a ball gown is embellished with intricate gold floral embroidery along its voluminous skirt hem, and slim sheaths bare their backs for a youthful and lighthearted feel.

I'm Nicole and I'm your typical young twenty-something millennial girl who lives in New York City formal flower girl dresses. I'm one of the many people who live there and don't own a vehicle. This is not uncommon for people in this city. In fact, only about 25% of the population in NYC actually own their own vehicles emerald green formal dress. I've always been a walker. I just happen to live in an area of the city where most everything I need is close by. I walk to work, walk to the grocery store, I even walk to the bar and occasionally grab a drink or two with my girlfriends. For the long commutes, I usually just Uber. Popular burger chain Shake Shack said Tuesday it lost an estimated $3.2 million in June sales because of store closures and reduced operating hours caused by the nationwide protests sparked by George Floyd’s killing and the curfews put in place because of them.

“As always, and especially during this recovery period, our priority remains the safety of our team and our communities,” Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti said in a statement. “Amidst our gradual sales recovery, we’ve started to open new Shacks again and are looking to the significant growth opportunity that we believe lies ahead for Shake Shack.”

Shack Shack’s second-quarter total revenue exceeded $90 million. Shake Shack paid hourly employees for normally scheduled hours that were shortened or canceled because of protests and curfews, the company said.
The company also instituted a 10 percent pay raise for hourly employees in April, during the height of the new coronavirus lockdown, scheduled to end July 22.

The company has relied on digital sales because of the pandemic and said digital orders were 60 percent of Shake Shack sales during the week ending July 1 compared to 84 percent during the week ending April 29.
Shake Shack faced criticism after receiving a $10 million small business loan that the company later returned. Union Square Hospitality Group, the parent of Shake Shack, said in April it had to lay off roughly 2,000 employees because of the pandemic.
