#Nathaniel C. Pierson
Nathaniel: What about y’all? Is anybody special waiting at home for you?
Stef speaks up immediately.
Stefan: I am married. My wife and Kai’s wife are sisters.
Kai: I also have three boys at home. My oldest is not much younger than you.
Nathaniel: Cool. Do any of them climb?
Kai: Not yet, but we’ll see.
Nathaniel: *To Mo* What about you?
Maurice: I have a wife and two girls. Kai’s wife and my wife were roommates in college.
Nathaniel: Huh, I feel like I crashed a family reunion.
Kai: Nothing like that. You’re a welcomed addition.
Nathaniel: Thanks, man!

stan4mel OMW You and your family are so hilarious! I love it when celebrities show us how regular they are. That's one of the many reasons I love you! I can't wait to see you on stage!!!
That one time the Pierson fam (and a few friends) took over Mel's comments lol. And that other time Mel knew they need a family group text. Nate doesn't always comment, but when he does, he does not hold back lol.

Full of energy, Nate races out to the front.
Kai: You should be leading us. You’re a man on a mission.
Nathaniel: You just don’t know, bro - I was born for this.
His contagious enthusiasm helps us put a little more pep in our step. He has us all feeling like we can conquer the world.

After a short flight, I arrive in Mt. Komorebi, and my S-Uber drops me off near the Onsen Bathhouse, where Mo and Stef are already waiting with our fourth guy.
As soon as I get a good look at Nate, I regret not asking him his age when we talked on the phone. He’s young, as I suspected, but I’m shocked to see he doesn’t look much older than Dub. Suddenly I’m feeling responsible for somebody’s kid. But it’s too late; he’s here. I know how much Dub hates being treated like a child. I’m sure Nate would react the same way, so I decide not to address it.
Kai: You must be, Nate. I’m Kai, Kai Banks.
Nathaniel: What up? I’m Nathaniel Pierson, but everyone calls me Nate.
Pierson? That sounds familiar.
Kai: It’s nice to meet you. I’m glad you were able to join us on such short notice.
Nathaniel: It’s all good. I’ve been waiting on a chance to do this forever.
Kai: Same here. Have you already met Mo and Stef?
Nathaniel: Yep, we’re all acquainted and everything.
Nate’s attention is pulled to his phone after he receives an alert.
Nathaniel: One sec, it’s my lady.
I turn to Stef, giving Nate a moment to respond to the text.
Kai: So, are you ready for this?
Stefan: I am hoping so. Lia says we could die here, so now I have some doubts.
Kai: We’ll be fine. We’ve trained for this, remember?

Nate and Mo have made it, with Stef right behind them. I’d love to stop and reflect on how proud I am of my guys, but stopping and interrupting my momentum could mean falling, getting hurt, or death. So I focus on myself and the big rock daring me to make a mistake. Time slows...this is the final showdown. Only one of us can win this battle, but will it be me or this big hunk of granite, limestone, and marble? My heart races and fills with adrenaline as I get higher and higher.
Before I know it, I’ve reached the top!

As before, I’m the last up, but I make it without issues. I join the other guys and pull out our chairs and a cooler in case they want to sit or grab a snack. I’m the only one who sits down, but then again - I’m the only one weighed down with a heavy pack.
Nate is still fired up. He stretches out on the ground and begins doing sit-ups. I envy his youth and energy. There was a time when I would have been doing the same thing.
Kai: That climb wasn’t enough for you, kid? You have enough stamina for sit-ups.
Nathaniel: Nah, that was just a warm-up. It’s time for the real deal.
Warm-up? His words ring through my head as my mind briefly focuses on the slight ache in my knees. Aging is a b**ch.
Since no one else needs to rest, I put everything away and lead them to the trail map marker.
Kai: Okay, the next one is the big one. Are we ready?
Maurice: Let’s do it.
Stefan: I’m ready.
Nathaniel: Ready? *sucks teeth* Next question
