Despite all of the promotional material, I still have no idea what this anime is about. The poster is literally just naked people.

Opus Colors Episode 1 Review: Perception Art Seems Cool
Here’s the review to one of the three animes I am watching this season. My first impressions? I feel like I have to see more to truly understand the story, but it’s not bad so far.
Tumblr media
From what I’m seeing, the anime is about Perception art, which is basically AR/VR type art. There is a school dedicated to it, which is where our three main protagonists attend.
I think Perception art is a cool concept in general. The way you can make stuff via AR/VR makes me wonder if it’ll be a thing in the future. However, my gripe is that the animation for the Perception art stuff can be a bit…weird? Like there are floating eggs at times but there are other instances of flowers and a wolf. Though, the little story with the masked boy was super cool and the best usage of perception art so far. If the anime keeps giving that sort of animation, I think this would be okay.
The first protagonist Kazuya Yamanashi is a Perception artist due to his parents’ influence. He stays in touch with his childhood friend Jun, but is distanced from the other one, Takise, who is two years older than him.
The school they attend is divided into two sections, Artists and Graders. Both sides are heavily hostile towards each other and it makes no sense to me. If you’re going to work together in the art industry, wouldn’t it be best to work together? I think that the school is going to be united by the end. Kazuya and Jun are Artists while Takise is a Grader, by the way.
There are a lot of characters that I can’t really keep track of. Hopefully, pairing them together will help me understand who they all are because a large cast from the get go is going to get messy if not done properly. The most jarring thing about the character designs is that all the characters HAVE THE EXACT SAME FACE! Just tweaking the eyes and changing the hair style won’t conceal these eyes of mine. I can see that they all suffer from same face syndrome. Gosh, am I going to be able to remember all these characters?
The voice cast is superb; it’s pretty much the reason why I wanted to watch and review this anime. Even if this anime turns out bad, I will enjoy it for the cast. For now, I can hear Yuma Uchida, Natsuki Hanae (though, he was a bit hard to decipher since his range for cute teen boys varies depending on the appearance), Ryota Ohsaka, Nobuhiko Okamoto and Daisuke Ono so far. I have to hear the others later on to see who they are voiced by.
The music so far seems generic. Though, the song used in the perception art portion was good. Other than that, the regular BGM are just there—not memorable at all.
For now, I’m probably going to write shorter reviews for this anime because there’s not much I can talk about since I don’t know anything right now. All I know is that the reason Kazuya and Takise had a falling out was due to an accident that caused Kazuya’s parents’ death. Yikes. There’s going to be angst in this anime? I’m never prepared for sudden angst.

AnS Vol 19 Drama CD: "Colorful Stories" Translation
I've always wanted to know what Hisame's voice sounded like, so I'm super thrilled he appears in some AnS Drama CD tracks. There's a track in the Volume 19 Drama CD which features Hisame having dinner with Shirayuki and Obi and sharing stories about Mitsuhide, Zen, and Kiki. This doesn't have an English translation, so I made one myself. The scene is set somewhere between Ch 88 and 89.
Follow along and read the translation under the cut!
Tumblr media
Vol 19 Drama CD: Colorful Stories
Hisame: Sakurai Takahiro Obi: Okamoto Nobuhiko Shirayuki: Hayami Saori Kiki: Nazuka Kaori Mitsuhide: Umehara Yuuichirou Zen: Oosaka Ryouta
Listen to audio here
Hisame’s VA says the title of the Drama CD track: Colorful stories.
Obi: Sorry to keep you waiting, young miss. Shirayuki: Good work today, Obi! Obi: Are you alone? Where’s Higata-san? Shirayuki: Looks like he left early today because he wasn’t around when I left. Obi: I see, well, let's go to the dining hall, it's not crowded now, is it? Shirayuki: Yeah, it’s still early. ??: Young miss. Shirayuki: Did you call me,  Obi? Obi: No that wasn’t me just now. From behind us? Obi and Shirayuki: Oh! Hisame: Hey. Remember me? It’s been a while, but we met at a soirée. Shirayuki: Vice Captain of the Sereg Knights! Hisame: Yes, I’m the Vice-Captain. Shirayuki: Hisame-san, right? Thank you for your help last time. Hisame: Not at all. I’m happy to see you again. *Shirayuki makes flustered noise* Hisame: Obi-dono, you were with the young miss too, were you? Obi: It’s almost time for us to return to Lilias soon though. Hisame: We’re also going to head back to Sereg soon. Have his Highness and Kiki-dono started their time off yet? Obi: Not until tomorrow, I think. Hisame: Well then, Obi-dono and the young miss. May I join you? Shirayuki and Obi: Eh? Hisame: For dinner, that is.
--
*door opens* Kiki: Zen, I just received a message from Obi. Zen: From Obi? Didn’t he go to dinner? Kiki: Well, he went all right. Zen: What’s going on? What’s with your troubled tone? Don’t tell me he’s joking about tonight’s menu being my favorite dish or something. Kiki: Well, if that’s the case, I won’t tell you. Do you want to know, Mitsuhide? Mitsuhide: Eh? Why me? Zen: I would just forget it if I were you. Mitsuhide: I think you’re right. Kiki: I’m having dinner with the young miss and the Vice-Captain, is what he said. Zen and Mitsuhide: What?! Mitsuhide: Which Vice-Captain? From the Sereg Knights? Kiki: That’s right, it’s who you’re thinking of. Zen: Hisame-dono, Shirayuki, and Obi are having dinner together? Kiki: Yeah. Zen: Why? Kiki: I don’t know. Zen: Is there more to the message? Kiki: That’s it. Zen: That Obi…! Mitsuhide: Wait. This is bad. Shirayuki isn’t a problem. But putting Obi, who likes to ask unnecessary questions just for fun, together with Hisame-dono who likes to talk about unnecessary things just for fun… Zen: Maybe we should rescue Shirayuki. Kiki: I’m sure Shirayuki can handle Obi if she needs to. We can ask her later what stories were shared. Mitsuhide: It’ll be a crisis by then. Kiki: I’ve established a good relationship with Hisame-dono so it’s not a problem for me. Mitsuhide: Huh? Zen: Ah, is that how it is? I’m okay too then. Kiki: I’m not particularly bothered with them talking about me in the first place. Mitsuhide: Then, do you mean…? Zen: I don’t know why but Mitsuhide has had the most dealings with Hisame. So, there’s a lot more tales to recount. Mitsuhide: I’m being abandoned, huh?
---
*sounds of chatter and dining* Hisame: Well then, let’s eat. Obi: Is it okay that we’re eating in the dining hall? Hisame: Yeah. Since I arrived at the royal castle, there hasn’t been a single meal in which I haven’t had to watch myself. Obi: Watch yourself, huh? Hisame: Seems like you know what I’m talking about. Obi: Haha, not at all. Come to think of it, I think you and His Highness talk pretty casually. You’ve known each other for a long time. Hisame: We were halfway through our teens when we were properly introduced. Obi: Is that a concrete time, or an estimate? Shirayuki: When you say “we”, you mean… Hisame: Myself, his Highness Zen, Kiki-dono, and his other close aide. Shirayuki: Close aide…? You mean Mitsuhide-san? Hisame: Yes, his close aide Mitsuhide-san. Obi (to himself): Oooh, I’m getting more and more curious by the minute. About this guy and Mister Mitsuhide’s relationship. Shirayuki (to herself): I wonder if he and Mitsuhide-san are fighting? Hisame: It was a time when Mitsuhide-dono was still not very good at soirees and banquets, hiding in the shadows to avoid becoming a target of curiosity for the ladies. *Obi spits out laughing* Shirayuki: Obi?! Obi: *cracking up* That’s not hard to imagine. I mean, *sobers up* what an interesting story. Hisame: His Highness Zen was still growing at the time. If I show you using this table… from here *moves glass* to here, about that tall, I think. Obi: Ehhhh. Now that would have been nice to see, wouldn’t it, young miss? Shirayuki: Definitely! I was about that tall around that time too, I think. Obi: Oh, then I would like to see that too! Hisame: You have also known each other a while, right? Shirayuki: Yes. But when we met, I was still the same height as I am now. Hisame: I see. Shirayuki: Mitsuhide-san was also part of the Sereg Knights’ Circle, wasn’t he? Obi: Yes, yes, that’s what I heard. Shirayuki: Did it coincide with your time there, Hisame-san? Hisame: No, I joined after Mitsuhide-dono had already left for the castle. Obi: Why the Sereg Knights in particular? Hisame: Interested? Obi: Yes, please! Hisame: Because I didn’t want to lose my ties with them. Shirayuki: Ties? Hisame: I didn’t used to get along with those three. Shirayuki and Obi: Hm? Hisame: After our first meeting, it seemed clear that we wouldn’t get along. I was determined to remember them with bitterness. But then I thought that it wouldn’t be worth holding a grudge if they forgot about me. I was in need for a chance of pace anyway, so I deliberately put myself in a place where they were likely to see me on a regular basis. Obi: Damn~~ Obi (to himself): How serious is this guy being right now? Shirayuki (to herself): Is it even okay for me to listen to this story? Shirayuki: Are you all friends now? Hisame: We are. We still fight a lot. Shirayuki: They say the more you fight, the better you get along. Hisame: That’s right. Do you have someone to fight with too, young miss? Shirayuki: Eh?! I don’t have a fighting partner. If it’s a partner that you fight with, that is. Hisame: That’s fine. Obi: It's true that Mister Mitsuhide came back home in a bad mood when he went to Sereg. I wonder if it’s because he had a fight with Hisame-dono. Hisame: Heh, when was that, I wonder. Was it that time? Some time ago, the room key for Kiki-dono’s usual room at the base had broken and I put Kiki-dono in Mitsuhide-dono’s room- Obi: AHHH! Shirayuki: Ahh! What’s wrong Obi?! Obi: I just thought I definitely don’t need to hear that. Hisame: Is that so? Obi: I wouldn’t know what to say if they learned that I had heard about it. Hisame: I wish it were that interesting of a story. What do you think Mitsuhide-dono did when the two of them were about to sleep in the same room? Obi: *exclaims* Young miss! Your ears, cover your ears! Shirayuki: Huh?! Hisame: *calmly* Your soup is about to flip over, you know. Obi: *takes a deep breath* Anyway, let’s talk about something else for now.
--some time passes--
Shirayuki: Ahh~ I’m so full. Obi: Right? *under his breath* I could barely taste it in the beginning though… Hisame: Well then, I’m off to make plans for the day after tomorrow. Thank you for letting me take up your precious time, Obi-dono, young miss. Shirayuki: Um, Hisame-san. About my- Hisame: Oh, were you perhaps about to tell me your name? Shirayuki: Yes. Hisame: Don’t worry, I know it. I remember from the soiree. I heard Obi-dono call you young miss earlier and I was just imitating him. Shirayuki: Ohh, so that’s how it is. Hisame: I won’t use that nickname again, so you can rest assured, Obi-dono. *Obi laughs a bit forcefully* Hisame: Incidentally, using a person’s name at the end of your time with them appears to be an effective tactic to make them want to see you again. So, feel free to use that tactic whenever you like… Shirayuki-dono. Shirayuki: ?! *makes flustered noise* Hisame: Well then, may we meet again somewhere.
*Hisame walks away*
Obi: *heaves a long sigh* I think I can sort of understand what Mister Mitsuhide has to go through now. Shirayuki: *small sigh* Obi: Hm? Young miss? Shirayuki: *startled noise* Shirayuki: I couldn’t help but watch Hisame-san as he walked away. Obi: Do you want to meet him again? Shirayuki: I think so. But the way he said my name at the end, it was kind of… scary. Obi: I understand.
----
*approaching footsteps* Kiki: Good evening, Hisame-dono. Hisame: Hello, Kiki-dono, Mitsuhide-dono. Kiki: Did you enjoy dinner? Hisame: News reaches you fast. I had fun. We talked about the time I joined the Sereg Knights’ Circle. Mitsuhide: *deep sigh* Hisame: We talked about you too, Mitsuhide-dono. Mitsuhide: Like what? Hisame: Oh, various things. Are there stories that you would rather not share? Mitsuhide: There are always ways to tell them… Hisame: What about that time the room key broke? Mitsuhide: You told them?! Hisame: No? Mitsuhide: Oh, what? Don’t scare me like that then, Hisame-dono. Hisame: Obi-dono and Shirayuki-dono voluntarily covered their ears. Mitsuhide: You tried to tell them, didn’t you? Hisame: I’m happy to hang out with you two if you wish to reminisce about the past. Kiki: Yeah. Mitsuhide and I will also be heading to Sereg the day after tomorrow. Hisame: Us too. Well then, should we depart at nine in the morning that day? Kiki-dono. Mitsuhide-dono. Kiki and Mitsuhide: Understood, Hisame-dono.

Audio Drama Stage 0.916 "The Black King" (Takes place just before the anime series starts and before Lelouch and Rivalz are friends.) You can listen to this drama in english dub right here
The audio drama begins as Rivalz Cardemonde is losing a Chess match against a noble. Rivalz explains that he felt confident he could beat the nobleman as he works part-time in a gambling den and has often filled in as a chess player for his manager. However, the nobleman has proven to be a much more skilled opponent than he expected and Rivalz gets more and more concerned that he might lose the game because he doesn't have the money to pay off the bet that he made. The nobleman seeks to taunt Rivalz further and tells him that if the game is turned around he will crawl around the table three times and bark like a dog. Lelouch overhears this and decides that it would be interesting to see and he takes over for Rivalz. Rivalz doesn't know Lelouch but notices he is from Ashford Academy as well; he tells him it's not a game for students but Lelouch notices he is a student as well; Lelouch also mentions he knows who Rivalz is, where Rivalz comes from (California) and how he even knows he took his mother maiden name, Cardemonde, because he is in bad term with his father; We then discover Lelouch has collected information from all the Ashford students. Lelouch sits down and surprises everyone by moving the black king first. Lelouch's trademark move causes Rivalz to lose all confidence in Lelouch. However, Lelouch gets a pen and paper and proceeds to write something down before handing the paper back to Rivalz.
A few moments later, Lelouch calls checkmate and the nobleman can't believe it. He asks Rivalz to read the paper he gave him and it is discovered that Lelouch had already predicted every single move that he and his opponent would make. Lelouch takes half of the winnings and when Rivalz asks why Lelouch saved him he says that he really just wanted to see the nobleman bark because he doesn't like people who confuse their ranks with their abilities.. Rivalz offers Lelouch a ride on his bike but Lelouch refuses on the grounds that he doesn't want to hang onto some guys back. At this point, Rivalz decides to buy a sidecar he saw a few days before since he now has the money and so that he'll be able to ride around with Lelouch.
Audio Drama Stage 0.884 " The imperial siblings" (Takes place after the Second Pacific War and a few years before the Black Rebellion.) You can listen to this Drama in english dub right here
Schneizel el Britannia and Cornelia li Britannia are sitting together and talking about Euphemia li Britannia. Euphie is getting close to turning 13 and Schneizel flatters both her and Cornelia. He comments on how he expected Cornelia to stay in Area 14 as Viceroy but she doesn't see the point since it's been pacified. She doesn't seem to care about politics and only wants to crush her enemies. Schneizel cautions her and says that you should always leave your opponents with a little will to live so that they remain productive.
Euphemia rushes over and interrupts them by saying that she would make a country a place for everyone to live happily if she were to be a viceroy. At that Schneizel tells Cornelia that he wants to recommend her to become the next Viceroy of Area 11. Cornelia doesn't want to do it so they think about sending Clovis la Britannia who just happens to walk in at that moment to welcome Cornelia who just returned from Area 14.
Clovis tries to be cordial but Cornelia wont take much part in it. Clovis brings Marianne vi Britannia on the table and they start talking about Lelouch and Nunnally and how they regret they wouldn't save them. Clovis then states that he officially requested to go be Viceroy of Area 11; When Schneizel asks him why since he dislikes this kind of work, Clovis mentions his record when it comes to his chess matches with Lelouch and how he couldn't beat him in the end; He was seemingly going to a tie with him once but the game was interrupted so he never really won. Euphemia then pipes in and says that Lelouch once sent her a letter that vaguely detailed the friendship he had formed with Suzaku Kururugi. Because he knows that lelouch had a japanese friend, Clovis think about showing less harshness to the elevens but Cornelia reminds him their job is to subdue them, idea supported by Schneizel; Clovis then walks out telling them to watch how he'll do and about how since it's Lelouch's final resting place he wants it to be as quiet as can be.
Audio Drama Stage 21.534 "The Final invitation" (Takes place shortly before the Special Administrative Zone Massacre.)
Suzaku starts reminiscing to Lelouch about the summer days of their childhood. Nunnally asks if the nostalgia has come from Suzaku talking to Euphemia about the past. The three of them then start talking about Marianne vi Britannia and the sibling's time as royalty. Marianne apparently got into a fight with thirty other empresses. Before they can talk more, Sayoko Shinozaki comes in to get Nunnally for a medical appointment. She is at first hesitant to go but with a prompt from Suzaku she decides to leave with Sayoko.
The two guys continue talking and Suzaku asks Lelouch if he thinks they could ever team up again like they did in the past. Specifically he wants Lelouch's help with the Special Administrative Zone of Japan. Lelouch denies his request claiming that now he can distinguish between fantasy and reality. Suzaku remarks that even though they have both changed so much their friendship hasn't changed. On that line Lelouch warns Suzaku to not get involved with the SAZ. They start a heated conversation about what should and should not be done with their lives. Lelouch continues to refuse Suzaku's request for help but promises that he wont forget. Lelouch then invites Suzaku to leave.
It closes with Lelouch commenting on how that was the last time they would ever talk as just friends. With resolution Lelouch confirms that no matter what, they can never return to those summer days.
And that's about it for CD Drama for season 1 ; Hope that if you didn't knew those, you learnt some interesting stuff, personally I really like most of them (if not all) and I pity the fact that CD drama for R2 (which will be posted after this final CD Drama for S1 is online) are mostly crack, although some are funny, it's just a waste of time while it could have been used for meaningful devellopment or information. Well Maybe you'll enjoy those anyway, but the realm of Canon Sound Drama officially ends with the Final invitation (even though 2 tracks of the R2 sound drama could be canon but don't bring much meaningful information.) My Own thoughts :I wanted to add that I loved them, all of them, but especially the ones expanding on Lelouch, Suzaku and Nunnally's childhood. I think an extra episode about their past within the anime wouldn't have been a luxury. I also have a soft spot for the one where Lelouch met Rivalz and Milly. Hope you enjoyed.
