My comic is so pretty...
The hiatus is letting me take a little extra time on these episodes, and I'm definitely putting it to good use!!!
#almost done with my 8th episode... which will give me. two weeks. of buffer...#id really like at LEAST a month... but to be more comfortable id like two#which means 2-6 more episodes before I come back!#I've got about 7 weeks so its possible. but i do still have to finish book 4#so much to do ..........#I decided for my next comic im doing 3 updates a month.#having 10 days instead of 7 to make an episode is such a huge huge huge difference...#difference in quality and in my health!#anyways the comic is really pretty im really happy with the work im doing rn#the environments especially. im getting to spend a nice amount of time on them and theyre turning out so nicely#its nice to be able to write with a lot of different environments and not have to redo panels when I get to them cause of time#cause every time theres a wild angle? you need a new background...#so sometimes. often actually. there just isnt the time to make the backgrounds for those and i have to make them more flat...#which is fine. it doesnt really affect anything narratively. but. idk. it's kinda sad right?#anyways yeah! 10 days will be much better.#36 episodes a year is about what ive been uploading with my hiatuses on the weekly schedule anyways!#so might as well cut out that super stressful middleman and just commit to that#52 a year is just such a huge difference and i have to accept its not possible to me#i will hurt myself trying to do that. and i want to make comics my whole life!#so i cant push myself that hard now and sacrifice my future. we're gonna go slower after this...#anyways yeah cant wait to come back but also time. if I could get an extra week like a secret one just for me#where theres no chores no nothin just me and my work#thatd be great! so go ahead and do what you gotta do to give me a little pocket dimension#me: ugh i want to return right now...#the more logical me: NO we need the time to finish everything!!!!!! I know that like when you get better at art there's like more choices being made and so you can't really pump out art like you used to anymore because you know better and blah blah blah but after years of being able to finish a whole piece in a day, having to work on the same drawing for 3 days is a crime what do you MEAN I only made 5 finished drawings this month?? What happened to the good ol' 57???
#simon says#like I know why this happens and I saw that tumblr post#but its still a crime to me#i got too many ideas all the dang time#but also hoo boy that art be lookin better and better every day#but seriously this year has been so slow for art#like i sort my digital art by year and month#and another folder in the month folder that holds that month's clip studio files#it used to be unfinished files but I don't really leave too much unfinished though so it's just easier to save it as the clip files#so the month file is just the fully finished and saved drawing#last year I was averaging about... probably 15 or so a month?? just about?? a lot of that was personal doodles#but still#in February I did 3#and it was just to draw 1 house#so like#i get the whole 'you get better and it means you work slower bc more care and effort and blah blah blah' thing#but it is still so jarring to me to open up a folder and not even see a scroll wheel#no scrolling for me?? no scrolling for simon?? can't even see one file forced into the next row that I gotta scroll to see??#tragic honestly

this is fucking pathetic i see ONE instagram post and i spiral and when i ask my mother for validation and idk, COMFORT?! she's just telling me that i can practice over the summer and improve and thats WAY more than what ill need to do and just reinforcing the idea that im not good enough AS IT IS and its not realistic to be a fucking tryhard over the summer for something i will NEVER succeed at and im crying and snapping at everyone and my sister heard one snappy word and started yelling at me too and like cut me some fucking slack im never gonna be able to complain about this outside my home bc if i did complain it would be fucking selfish (and ACTUALLY selfish im not lying) and if i dont get in again i KNOW that its gonna fucking break me and i feel like a worthless idiot and im not good enough for this thing and im never gonna get in so whats even the point of trying again when itll just destroy me

looking back at this year is funny because i was on a whole different plane of emotional vulnerability and disassociation from reality for most of it from the #grief and now i look back and im like why was i so upset over six litmag rejections
#like the rabbit knows how to bury itself got ten rejections alone LOL#to be fair to me these were stretched over a year and i was scared I wouldn’t get a pub this year#also combining that with doing litmag stuff and exposing myself to the wider community gave me a lot of impostor syndrome#which like why was I comparing myself to people 10+ years older than me who have been writing way longer too ???#but like no story of mine got more than 2 rejections and two of them got acceptance on the first sub LOL i think I’ve just been so out of i#and there was no strategy really!!! just luck#I was rly focused on where I submitted too rather than doing big wide scopes to just get published anywhere#which is slower but feels more intentional and better for me#but also I do want to submit a lot more next year which means I will get rejected way more#I never did rejection goals bc those are out of my control but maybe a sub goal?#like i made 9 subs this year lol. 6 rejected 2 accepted 1 withdrawn

writing update: i have officially given up on trying to predict the total chapter count for the hedgehog's dilemma. i don't know how long this thing is going to be and neither do you
#fic: the hedgehog's dilemma#ted lasso fanfic#for anyone who's curious the reason this keeps happening is that my outlines start out as very broad strokes#and then as i write i go through the next few sections and break them down into specific scenes#which is usually when i start to get the sense that what i originally planned to be one chapter is actually going to be two or more#ch. 4 is currently just over 3.1K#updates might be a bit slower now that the school year has started but hopefully not by much#i'm done my coursework so it's just TA stuff and working on the thesis and my other job#all of which i was also doing over the summer
