Is it bad that I feel a bit conflicted about the whole Israel Palestine thing? Like on the one hand I understand that what Israel has done to the Palestinian people is possibly the most abhorrent form of genocide and colonialism of the modern age and that Palestinians have every right to fight against them (part of the issue being that Israel has constructed itself in such a way that any Palestinian resistance will harm civilians) but on the other hand I'm not sure I like the messaging of western leftists saying "killing civilians is good actually" which I understand is a small minority but I'm uncomfortable with people being so ready to use the "My enemy is ontologically evil and no act against them is unjustified" I feel like the messaging should be support for Palestine but not for the killing of civilians. I don't know I'm woefully uninformed on this situation and I'm sorry if this comes off as stupid.

Settler colonialists are not civilians, because they settled illegally on someone else's land. Palestinians have the right to drive them away and take back what is rightfully theirs. If a settler colonialist decides to live on stolen land, then they're gonna have to live with the fact that they're never gonna live a single day in peace.

Scragglmop the Destroyer

Once feared throughout the land, a great and terrible dragon grew tired of being endlessly hunted for his hoard and faked his death with the aid of a glory-hungry gnomish bard. Living on for centuries in the guise of a street cat, the dragon is now a hair's breadth from resuming his rampaging ways after the bard's descendants have lost the fortune he gave over to them for safe keeping.

Adventure Hooks:

A series of unexplained fires has wracked the city in recent weeks, which has both the guard and the populace on edge. Rumours swirl blaming arsonists, saboteurs from a rival kingdom, even an illegal duelling society of mages, but none have yet put it together that all of the workshops and businesses were all patronized in one way or another by the famed Candlebright noble family.

Coincidentally, Hignatta Candlebright, young head of that same noble house has sent an invitation to the party to join her at a famed teahouse to discuss a delicate matter involving the retrieval of stolen property. Hignatta has all but taken over the teahouse and its guestrooms since her own family home burned down near the start of the panic, and the party might begin to draw a connection when half way through their meeting the teahouse begins to fill with smoke, panicking patrons, and a booming, sourceless voice that demands "WHERE IS MY GOLD, CANDLEBRIGHT?!"

If you really want to mess with the party, consider introducing them to the fluffy street cat completely independently of the arson plot, making a nuisance of himself in the market while they're trying to shop, or catching mice in their store-room should they have acquired a residence in town. Have them befriend the cat as they might any bad-tempered stray, only to realize after the adventure is half way through that the mice he catches are always somewhat charred. Also imagine the looks on their faces the moment the party's home is broken into by an enemy and their housecat incinnerates a wave of intruders for disturbing his nap.

Background: Everyone knows the story about how the legendary hero Gailen Candlebright saved the realm from the tyrannical dragon Slaggrath, a beast known to devour whole armies and raze kingdoms in search of treasure. It's the ubiquitous tale against which all adventurers are measured against, made all the more ubiquitous thanks to the fact that the deed is memorialized in drinking ballads, children rhymes, and even a few folk operas. Gailen was a troubadour of not insignificant skill before he became a legend, and he had little trouble using that skill and hardwon fame to ensure his deeds would never be forgotten.

As with many tales told by the bards, Gailen left out quite a bit of the truth when concocting his tale: It was a late night in a roadside tavern and the young Candlebright was approached by a sourfaced man with a tangled beard and clothes that might have once been quite fine. Gailen had sung for his supper and then some, his hat was overflowing with tips from a long night's work and a greatful crowd, and the old man wanted to know how it was exactly that the Gnome hadn't yet been robbed; The roads were full of all sorts of rough types who thought that their strength entitled them to others' wealth, bandits yes but worse yet kingsmen, who took what they wanted sure that that they were above any kind punishment.

Seeing that the old man had fallen on rough times, likely having been robbed himself, Gailen spoke from the heart: He'd been robbed a few times yes, but he got by looking like someone that no one would bother to steal from, dressing in his fine clothes only on days he'd perform, and keeping most of his riches in the safe keeping of others, such as the caravan masters he frequently traveled along with.

The old man considered Gailen's words and the two sat up drinking through the night debating the merits of the Troubador's duplicity. Was it not better, asked the old man, to defend what was yours with strength and reputation, That everyone might learn from the failure of those that had trifled with you before?

Gailen looked at the many scars the old man bore and countered that fools never learned their lesson, they just thought themselves better than the last fool who risked it and they'd keep risking it till luck won out or they went to join all the fools that had come before.

It was dawn when the two parted ways, Gailen tottering off to bed thinking he'd given council to a reformed bandit chief, the old man slipping out of the inn and taking to wing thinking he'd concocted a brilliant scheme with the help of his newest, and perhaps first, friend.

i was a week (and one pants-shitting revelation over the old man's true draconic nature) later that the legend of Slaggrath came to an end: Gailen walking into that very same tavern bloodied, burnt, and with the broken off horn of the great wyrm held above his head as a trophy. The news spread like wildfire, the name Candlebright ascended to the shortlist of the realm's great champions, and not a soul questioned when the newly knighted Gailen comissioned the construction of an elaborate series of vaults beneith the castle he'd just been awarded. The bard had everything he wanted, and in return he and his family would hold the dragon's horde in trust, not touching a single copper and adding a little to it each year out of respect for the wyrm's generosity.

Future Adventures:

Even before he charmed his way into unexpected riches, Gailen was an ardent follower of Garl Glittergold, god of ambition, wit, and wariness. Genresavvy bard that he was, he understood that this fabulous windfall wasn't just some gift from his god, it was a test, and that to keep his good fortune going he'd best abide by the exact deal he'd struck in that tavern. Gailen kept Slaggrath's treasure under lock and key all his life and made sure his children did the same despite never telling them where he got it, in accordance with his pact with the dragon . Feeling that the Candlebright family has sat on its laurels for far too long (especially since practical and buisness minded Hignatta has been increasingly questioning why her late grandfather insisted on keeping a giant pile of money in their basement and never spending it), the god has seen fit to shake things up, ensuring that some long lost blueprints for the vault have fallen into the hands of a group of thieves, who broke in and cleared the vault though the very same secret passages Slaggrath used to pop in every decade or so and make sure the count was up to date. The dragon is pissed, convinced Hignatta has reneged on her family's deal.. and all the while the thieves get closer and closer to escaping.

Depending on how the party handles it this situation could break bad in any number of ways: The dragon could give up on being Scragglmop and go on a rampage forcing the party to put him down, they could intercede on Hignatta's behalf and ensure the treasure is returned possibly earning themselves a cushy position as retainers of house Candlebright, perhaps most dangerously they could earn the attention of Garl Glittergold himself and end up being singled out for their own unstable blessing.

In addition to being motivated by the prerequisite desire to get rich, the thieves were hired by an ambitious mage who has long desired to get his hands on Gailen's Horn, the draconic trophy the bard thereafter used as the sigil for his house and hollowed out into a heavy instrument through which he channelled his most showy magic. The mage has designs on the horn as the centrepiece of a ritual drawing on the object's history of power and triumph. Given that the horn is in fact the centrepiece of a giant con it's going to bring some very unaccounted for variables into the mage's ritual which is liable to set off its own chain of problems down the line.

When people say “no one is illegal on stolen land” in regards to the status of undocumented Mexican immigrants in the United States having a right to be there… like I completely agree with the spirit of the phrase of course and I think no one should be classified as “illegal”. But Mexico is just as much “stolen land” as the United States is, are we forgetting about what the Spaniards did to the millions of indigenous people there in order to create what we now know as Mexico?? Yesterday, the first day of the ceasefire, IOF killed THIRTY Palestinian civilians.

Israel is supposed to exit North Gaza.

Israel is supposed to stop encroaching on Palestinian homes and land with illegal settlements in West Bank.

Whats the reality?

The reason Israel destroyed every single hospital and university in Gaza as well as most of the buildings — residential, schools, mosques, commercial — is because they WANTED to ethnically cleanse Gaza — especially North Gaza — of Palestinians.

Why?

Gaza has $500 billion of UNTAPPED natural gas & oil.

Chevron is already building oil wells.

There's only so many people a country can support without sacrificing the poeple who actually fucking live there legally. No, I won't think of the children if their parents came to a country illegally.

I have yet to see any American frothing at the mouth for those jobs. Yeah let’s totally separate families like Germany did in the 1930s, or like America did when slavery was legal, or like Israel does. Children shouldn’t be deported especially if they’re born here and parents have the right to seek asylum. So you want Trumps children deported right? Since they’re all children of immigrants. Hell if Trump gets rid of the 14th amendment then he should also be deported, his grandfather was a German immigrant and his grandmother was a Scottish immigrant. The 14th amendment was also so that slaves could gain citizenship after the American civil war. It was later interpreted by the Supreme Court to include children born of immigrants to also have automatic citizenship after a Chinese American man in the late 1800s, left to visit his family in China and was denied reentry into his own country.

No one is allergic to legal immigration. Asylum seekers have the right to seek asylum in any country they can. Why are you so afraid of immigrants? What would be wrong with having a German Christmas market? Do you not want to share cultures with others? For me it sounds assume that people come here and share their cultures with us. As a third generation Mexican American woman and whose other side literally helped found this country no. But undocumented immigrants aren’t out here raping women in broad daylight as a whole. They want to stay under the radar, the only way to do that is to oh I don’t know not commit crime. Most women are raped by Americans. It’s also unfortunate that an unhoused woman was killed by an undocumented immigrant who was probably suffering from mental illness.

So here’s the last thing I’m going to say to you anon and this is nicer than what I really want to say. If you’re so anti immigration do not eat anything but bland food, or maybe if you can stomach it find indigenous people and ask them for their ancestral knowledge on how to properly cook “American” food. Learn how to sew your own clothes after you learn how to create cloth and thread. Immigrants are not and have never been the problem. At some point your family were also immigrants and they came over when it was easier to immigrate to this country, unless they were Asian or Italian or Irish. "What can I do?"

Something.

Join/take part in activism groups/charities.

If you can't directly partake, then donate to groups you think are doing the right thing.

If you don't have a lot of money for donations, you can still join protests.

If you can't join protests, you can practice civil disobedience, like sitting/kneeling during a pledge of allegiance or national anthem.

Look up your government representatives and email them about your concerns or laws you think should be changed. Doesn't need to be elegant, just get the point across.

At the end of the day, you only need a sharpie to do graffiti.

There's a character in Attack the Gas Station, who will only ever fight one person when in a fight, no matter how many others there are. In that movie there are increasingly large fight scenes that break out, and each time he chooses one person and ONLY attacks that one person regardless of how many other people are fighting him. I'm not a US citizen but US politics have a huge impact on Canada. Literally the threat of the states imposing tariffs on Canada made our dollar drop in value. That's not a joke. I felt horribly helpless because I'm not even there. I legally could not vote on something that has such a tremendous impact on my life and my job.

Why would their memories?

A childhood never quite forgiving the ones who locked them away. Being treated as "insane". Being alone. Not sure if you WANT to "make friends" but trying anyway. Because humans are social animals. Because you know what an alarmingly intelligent and self disciplined child, who ALSO happens to be notably asocial, looks like to people.

A life of fear and lies.

Can the Transfer other things, now? Or still just themselves? Still nothing but Souls? Is it even a transfer at all?

And what happens if it stops? Or gets copied? Influenced in anyway? Do they have a moral obligation to avoid those they know could be potentially killed by them? Who could potentially kill them by accident?

And, oh! Oh the QUANDARY of children! Quirks are GENETIC. Any mutation or variation of their Quirk? Will bring about ANOTHER. Do they have that RIGHT? Too kidnap another soul? Even if it's just to no longer be alone? Too condemn them to live when they may not wish too?

Their whole bloodline would be Self Inserts. No guarantee they'd be from the same universe! But they would be Reincarnations just like you. Born into a Story. One you KNOW, by nature, can never be peaceful.

Because a peaceful world is not an interesting Shonen Story.

Just as Batman can never truely win, just as the day never truely stayed saved, so too will this world forever decend back into chaos. So a new Protagonist can rise to meet it. What RIGHT would you have, to knowingly bring an innocent person into such danger, trapped in the body of a child?

The tenor and momentum behind the popularity of the “pro-Palestinian” cause is clear, especially amongst young Americans. Tens of thousands of college students across the country have been brainwashed by radical, Marxist doctrines that view America and Israel as the world’s greatest evils. These radical ideas were systematically spread in the U.S. by the Islamo-leftist alliance, especially in academia. For example, an assistant professor at Humboldt State University in California was arrested for refusing to end an illegal occupation at the university. He declared, “Our arrest on a stolen land and in a place that we consider home is an act of violence.” His response perfectly encapsulates the fact that the enemies of Israel are also the enemies of America and the West. They don’t believe that Israel or the United States should exist. The natural remedy? Violence, revolution, and global intifada.

One of the most insidious tactics employed by these individuals is the use of "anti-Zionism" as a masked disguise for antisemitism.  In New York City, pro-Hamas, antisemitic protestors tried to shut down an art exhibit memorializing the victims of the Nova Music Festival massacre. The protestors waved Hezbollah and Hamas flags and called for a global “intifada” outside the Nova exhibit. The phrase “intifada” is not merely an “anti-Zionist” phrase. It refers to the terrorist uprisings in Israel in the past 40 years that injured and killed thousands of innocent civilians. It’s widely accepted as a call for violence against all Jews worldwide. Media outlets referred to these protestors as “Pro-Palestinian”. Supporting Hezbollah and Hamas, officially recognized terrorist groups who have no interest in peace, is not “pro-Palestinian”. The media’s whitewashing of the protestors’ calls for violence does not advance the cause of peace.

Anti-Israel activists regularly and shamefully use Jewish historical trauma to their advantage. A trending social media video perfectly captures this phenomenon with unintentional irony that would be comical if it weren’t so offensive. Currently with over 2 million views, the video argues that “pro-Palestinian” advocates are silenced by claims that they’re “antisemitic”. They appropriate the post-Holocaust motto for Jewish safety, “Never Again” to vilify Israel. Antisemitic activists use the memory of the Holocaust for the purpose of painting its victim, the Jewish people, as the "new" oppressor in the form of Israel. The video also chooses to call the only Jewish state in the world, “genocidal”, a common choice of many antisemitic activists who claim to be “Pro-Palestinian”. Obfuscating and appropriating Jewish history is a tactic that comes directly from the playbook of terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah.

BOYCOTT FOR PALESTINE

FOA (Friends of Al-Aqsa) have organized a boycott in support of palestine.

Here are the key companies to boycott:

HP (Hewlett Packard) provides hardware and services for the Israeli Prison Service and the Israeli police who enforce apartheid on Palestinians within Israel.

Coca-Cola operates on stolen Palestinian land by having a factory in Atarot, an illegal israeli settlement. These Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. Coca-Cola is defying international law.

Israeli produce should be left on all shop shelves. When shopping always #CheckTheLabel to make sure you don't accidently buy any produce labelled from 'Israel'.

PUMA sponsors the Israel Football Association (IFA) and the Israeli national team. The IFA manages several football teams in illegal Israeli settlements, built on stolen Palestinian land.

We encourage all our supporters to focus on boycotting these 3 companies and to #CheckTheLabel on produce, to be more effective in ending Israeli apartheid. We aren't saying other companies aren't complicit, but we need to be targeted and strategic to make a boycott successful, just how we have been in the past with South Africa.

it is incredibly difficult to get even people in my own circle who I’ve known for years to get it thru their heads and not give me empty stares that settler-colonialism is the ‘primary contradiction’, the root of basically any oppression anyone faces today. I learned this from indigenous and Black decolonial liberationists. Everything we suffer, it seems, goes back to the Western settler-colonialism. This is ringing true.

And I’ve tried putting it into perspective for my fellow settler “Americans”: we aren’t different than the “Israeli” settler in our status here on occupied indigenous lands. Decolonization is the way and it’s just and good to serve and work toward it for and with indigenous peoples.

And yes we do have to do this work and learn this education now! “I’m not my ancestors” is bullshit considering we are actively still destroying the land and it’s rightful stewards to this very day. “Our ancestors” genocidal crimes never stopped and were carried generations into now - so I don’t understand why we can’t accept this fact, follow indigenous peoples lead toward decolonizing “America”.

It’s free Palestine it’s land back to First Nations people it’s colonized countries globally forcing the white supremacist European and “US” powers out. It’s just to be dedicated to helping to do what is right. Go to hell otherwise. Expect hell. I don’t even know what to say anymore to other settlers except this.

Hello and welcome to the fourth day of me posting about palestine in support of the strike. today’s conversation is about the boycott list and how they work; and also the importance of targeting the worst offenders and moving down

first off what is boycotting? well google defines it as:

“Withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organisation, or person) as a punishment or protest.”

in other words:

“To stop giving money or spreading the world of a country, organisation or person in a way of protest or punishment.”

what does this have to do with Palestine? Well the BSD has made a list of brands to boycott until a ceasefire is declared, this is the list below

what this post serves to to is to break down these sections, explain what it means and why the brands are there.

before i do that, i will state why it is important to do targeted boycotting rather than generalised boycotting. In my words, the purpose of a boycott is to tell these companies our opinions by smacking them where it hurts, their profits. boycotts have been shown to work.

(starbucks stocks over 6 months. this company is being boycotted due to their unfair treatment of employees.)

but if you dont believe me, believe BDS, this is what they said.

���We must strategically focus on a relatively smaller number of carefully selected companies and products for maximum impact. We need to target companies that play a clear and direct role in Israel’s crimes and where there is real potential for winning, as was the case with, among others, G4S, Veolia, Orange, Ben & Jerry’s and Pillsbury. Compelling large, complicit companies, through strategic and context-sensitive boycott and divestment campaigns, to end their complicity in Israeli apartheid and war crimes against Palestinians sends a very powerful message to hundreds of other complicit companies that “your time will come, so get out before it’s too late!”

“Many of the prohibitively long lists going viral on social media do the exact opposite of this strategic and impactful approach. They include hundreds of companies, many without credible evidence of their connection to Israel’s regime of oppression against Palestinians. Many do not have clear demands to the companies as to what we expect them to do to end the boycott, making them ineffective.”

Now we move on to the sections within the boycott:

Consumer Boycott Targets

This section, the BDS calls for a complete boycott of these companies. This means that you should completely avoid buying from them. This is because of what they have done:

AXA - Refuses to take action against the current conflict and yet was active in supporting Ukraine. It also invests in the war crimes and the stolen Palestinian land

Puma - This is due to its partnership with the Israeli football team, however this one is actually be debated of taking off, and will be removed once the partnership is actually confirmed to be over (go boycotts!)

Carrefour - genocide enabler. It supports the IDF in partaking in the current genocide.

HP - They provide technology for Israeli people and services to the offices of the Israeli Government.

Chevron (+ Caltex and Texaco) - The main company extracting Gas from Israel in the Middle East. They gain billions of dollars from this and puts it towards the conflict, as well as contributing to the climate crisis through fossil fuels.

Re/max - Sells properties on stolen Palestinian land

Ahava - It’s produced in Israel, and its main store is there aswell.

Siemens - the main contractor for connecting Israel’s illegal settlements to EU

Sodastream - it’s an Israeli company that is helping to fund the genocide.

Also make sure to boycott Israeli made products as it will also fund the genocide!

Divestment and exclusion targets

The BDS aims to pressure these groups of people out of contracts with Israel. Please note that these people come from different sources which are in the link.

Elbit systems - It “field-tests” its weapons on palestian people. They also violate refugee and indigenous peoples rights just by doing their job

CAF - build the light rail in Jerusalem. They benefit off of the stolen land.

Barclays - hold 1B pounds in, and 3B pounds of loans that relate back to Israeli machinery

Intel - has stated that they wish to invest $25 Billion dollars into the genocide on Israelis side.

Chevron - (did above)

TKH Security - Provided surveillance equipment to Israel.

HD Hyundai (+ Volvo, CAT, JCB) - Provide machinery for Israel to use in their ethnic cleansing.

HIK Vision - Provide CCTV to be used to survey Palestinian People

Pressure targets

BDS wishes to place pressure onto these people to stop their support of Israel. They aren’t wishing for a full boycott but they do want to have a strong uproar in social media with these groups. This is because

Google ( + Amazon ) - signed a $1.22 billion dollar contract to provide cloud services to Israeli government and military

AirBNB ( + Booking.com and Expedia) - all offer bookings on stolen land

Disney - The New Captain America film personifies Apartheid Israel, and are complicit in speaking up about the conflict.

Tera - benefits off of the conflict as they can exploit the captive Palestinian Market

Organic Boycott Targets

The BDS did not start these boycotts but supports them, this is because:

McDonald’s ( + Dominos Pizza, Papa John’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, WiX) - Mostly because they have branches in Israel, or have showed support in words or donations. If they are not already active in your area, you dont have to focus on them since it wont be as effective

to summaries:

- Focus on hitting the worst companies the hardest

- your money speaks volumes

- use the BDS guide as a base and add on companies you wish to not support, make sure boycott to you, cause while it may not immediately be affective, once the big companies are listening the smaller will follow

- also support palestinian run businesses

Forbidden love theme week

Gem…oh poor precious little gem single handedly the most beautiful thing in the grimmlands with antlers of obsidian and beautiful natural either bone markings on her body not to mention the luscious bush of wither roses that grows around her neck but such beauty makes it a nightmare to have a dating life since the folks of the grimmlands are very superstitious of anyone marrying wither hybrids to the point it’s damn near illegal it also doesn’t help she’s the future queen in one of its more important territories. You’d have to be either from a different land entirely or missing a few marbles to not notice that

Then cue the largest wandering group of thieves known to the world the hermits! It should have been simple sneak into the castle steal all their diamonds and goodies and scamper off back to their hideaway but nope False and Grian just had to sneak further in to see if they could pull a prank or two where they wander into the garden to see gem sleeping gracefully against a tree after not returning the other hermits found them and all collectively agreed she is the most beautiful person they’d ever seen. So what was meant to be a quick heist turned into secretly living in the castle for weeks until gem finally noticed the various baubles they’d left her a pair of lapis earrings here a few obsidian rings there and the biggest surprise one day was watching grian and impulse trying to replace her bed with a even nicer one.

And from there it only got more and more fun as gem after nearly fainting from thinking she was about to be kidnapped soon began to meet and learn about the hermits and how they were all runaways of some kind and even learning they were all dating each other and it broke her little hybrid heart that she couldn’t join them…well legally that is. So the very next day she faked her death and ran away with her lovers and if you were to ask her if she’d ever go back she’d firmly say “And give up these gorgeous goofballs in your dreams.”

It turns out living with a band of thieves offers far more freedom than stuffy royal life. She feels sorry for lumping her brother in it unexpectedly, but she's sure he'll manage the kingdom better than she ever would. She was always too soft, not interested enough in their drive for technological advancements. This works out better for everyone!

But, especially her. The hermits will wear gloves and help her trim back the wither rose bush so she can hide it under a cloak, they help her look after her antlers... They like to joke Gem's heart is the most precious thing they've ever stolen, but Gem thinks the opposite. She managed to steal theirs!

Character Writing Exercises

I'm quickly hopping in on the fun writing exercise created by @davycoquette before work lmao

Rules: Paint a picture of a character by describing their bedroom while they’re not in it.

I'll do my beloved Mordrek Willets, former Sinan Intelligence Services officer and all-around ne'er-do-well!

Winding along the Kulniryi cliffs, the very edge of the continent, lies Thieves' Quarter. Home to the city's meanest and most desperate inhabitants, who have made their homes by burrowing into the rock faces and stealing flotsam from shipwrecks, one would never expect opulence or comfort in these rude-carved quarters.

As usual, Mordrek Willets defies expectations.

A faint whiff of must and salt hums underneath a foreign perfume rich with black pepper. Careful fumigation cannot wholly irradicate this souvenir of the sea.

Flickering electric lights - illegally spliced from Kulniryi's newly-installed power system - play over bedclothes in a heap. The top blanket is made of plain blue wool, likely the remnants of old sailors' trunks, but delving deeper reveals a luxurious bedcover, embroidered in multicolored leaf patterns interspersed with aggressive, riotously bright animals. This one, at least, was not stolen from anywhere; it was a hush present from a Koffa tribeswoman who did not wish for her infidelity to be made public.

Underneath these is a set of sheets made from shot silk; when the light hits it right, the fabric turns a brilliant gold-blue, changing its proportions when shifted ever so slightly.

Though the pillows are covered in gorgeous cotton pillowcases, printed by hand in faraway Rixia, they smell faintly of sweat and liquor. Two sharp knives, their handles carved from cow femurs, lay sheathed beneath.

The bed itself is carved with fantastical animals: two-headed cows, lions with horse faces, a cat curled into a pretzel. One might imagine this the grave good of a great ruler, and perhaps it is. Mordrek asks no questions of what he drags out of the depths.

At its foot sits a heavy sea chest with several locks, all in different styles. Picking them all would take ages - not to mention advanced knowledge of the many fastening styles in vogue across the world - but should one succeed, they would be greeted with an unusual sight.

Nestled amongst the fir bones of this sea chest are unsealed letters, government documents, taboo books from faraway lands, and mementos from former lovers. Most of whom are now married, mothers, or dead.

Pretty hair bows, bulky jewelry made from precious metals, even the fingerbones of one woman's dead relatives wired as a bracelet. Each is tucked into a white muslin bag, titled with the gifter's name and place of origin. On some, Mordrek has deigned to write something he loved about this lady he could not keep for long.

Reading them seems like a whirlwind trip through geography, history, and a man's lonely life: Rixia, Koffa, the Cow Republic, the Fuarese Union, Janailan before the civil war. Even one from the tiny island of Down Derby, known for its carnivorous sheep.

One cannot help feeling a bit melancholy, especially when they notice the half-empty liquor bottles from each corresponding nation tucked amongst the mementos. Many of the items are slightly stained from alcohol or sebum, suggesting Mordrek picks them up and investigates them on a regular basis. Remembering all the lovers he was cursed to leave behind everywhere he goes.

But quick! The front door, stolen from a luxurious Triechelle barque, may open any minute. Turn off the pilfered solar power, creep into the grand living room, and sneak past his mule, who grouses in a stable in front of the entryway.

Those of Thieves' Quarter, quite predictably, don't take well to intruders. Best that Mordrek not know you entered his most sacred, profane space. He wouldn't appreciate being caught out.

Ha, Germany is nothing. People in France are literally outraged when they don't have their government overreach.

Case in point, Pierre Palmade : Famous french actor is rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being in a car crash, drugged out of his mind, with 2 more people (his dealers I think ?) inside the car, who fled the scene and were arrested shortly after. iirc, a few days later, someone anonymously comes forward and claims Palmade showed him CP at a party. I'm not sure those claims were ever proven, it stopped getting media attention before reaching a conclusion and I never followed up.

What was the debate centered about ? In one sentence, "Why didn't the government do more to prevent this ?"

So a man took drugs (already illegal), drove under the influence of said drugs (very illegal !), and then crashed his car into another (even more illegal !), and the public's response was... that it wasn't illegal enough. Let that sink in. So of course the government didn't miss this opportunity and is talking about reinforcing sanctions for DUIs, and increased police budget.

I have so many examples of behavior like this. One time I mentioned the story of magnet fishing in France (guy fishes old ww2 landmines, alerts no one (already illegal), and then takes them home to proudly expose them (even more illegal), and thus contaminates his whole home & car, and his whole family has to be treated for phosphorus poisoning. Government sees very illegal thing and decides to shadow-ban magnet fishing, which now requires permission from the département, something that they have absolutely no reason to give and therefore never do), in a room full of seemingly not completely stupid people, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy and wanted to blow everyone up with land mines. The most sympathetic opinion from the ensuing debate was "That should definitely require a license of some sort, maybe like a driver's license where you need to do it with a certified professional for 20 or 30 hours". Great, so this popular hobby where you throw a magnet tied to a rope into a river, where the biggest thing you'll probably pull out is a stolen bike, should now be illegal unless you spend thousands of euros on a piece of paper that changes absolutely nothing ? Yeah that's a normal position to hold.

Jesus. That's next level brainrot. How do they cope with people being allowed access to the air outside without needing a license and 20 hours of breathing training under a government certified expert? Seems like something that would cause them great anxiety.
