Production is the trade of unsung heroes. Aside from the more commonly known talents of photographers, stylists, models, actors, hair and make-up are the dedicated team of producers who work behind-the-scenes to hold everything in place. Those who ensure that flowers are dewy fresh for a shot, arrive hours in advance to ensure a smooth shoot day, pour their heart in a project to make a vision come true. One such producer, that Vogue India worked with was Narii whose untimely death on December 29, 2017 came as a shock to all of us.
Narii ran Temple Road Productions alongside Bindiya Chhabria—his second in command. The duo were on holiday in Turkey when Narii collapsed and breathed his last. Therein began their last journey together where even complete strangers rushed to help Chhabria with the herculean task of bringing him back.
A true man of his word, Narii’s passing away comes as a huge blow to those who have had the opportunity to work with him. The Vogue India team remembers the man he was.
“I had heard about Narii long before I even met him. One half of the Temple Road Productions team, he, along with Bindiya quietly created magic for us shoot after shoot. When I finally put a face to the name, I found him to be a soft-spoken and warm person who smiled easily and often. His lovely energy and his touch of brilliance will both be missed greatly.” -Priya Tanna, Editor-in-chief
“Narii was one of the most dependable people. Anything you asked was always possible. He was always in the shadows, waiting to lend a hand. He created some of the most beautiful sets for our shoots, making a lot of the stories and ideas that were in my mind come alive on the pages of Vogue. His warm smile would make any form of stress go away. Bindiya and Narii were a formidable team and had the perfect balance with each other.” -Anaita Shroff Adajania, Fashion Director
“Over the last four years, I worked with Narii on several shoots. He left us too soon. He was one of those producers who was always calm—you never felt stressed around him. He was kind and fair to his crew and us. A Bindya and Narii production was always all pure heart. Narii will be missed.” -Divya Jagwani, Bookings Editor
“Narii’s effervescent personality and calm attitude made even the most stressful shoots go smoothly. He always had a warm big smile and even warmer heart. He will be sorely missed.” -Priyanka Kapadia, Senior Fashion Editor
“Only a few weeks ago, I was in the middle of my shoot and felt like everything was crumbling. And then, Narii arrived on the sets and all the chaos was pushed aside with his calm yet in control personality. That’s the kind of person he was—every bit the professional but always with a warm smile and a sense of familiarity. Our shoot sets will never be the same without him.” -Ria Kamat, Fashion Stylist
We look back at some of Vogue India’s most iconic shoot which would not have been possible without Narii’s support.
