Transformers: Mosaic - Fragments

Longtime followers of the archive may remember that I’ve occasionally thrown in extra strips clearly intended for Mosaic in some form, but never published as such for whatever reason. Well, I’ve scoured the deviantART galleries of every single one of the literally-hundreds of creatives for any evidence of unfinished or unpublished Mosaic strips. I have scrolled past so many fetish posts to dig up teases in old comments, scripts that were never illustrated, preview panels from strips that were never finished or shared, and even one or two full strips which were literally completed, just never posted for some arcane reason. And I've even gone out of my way to track down certain contributors to ask them to raid their old hard drives and dredge up never-before-seen material. I do all this… because I love you.

Here's how this is going to work. Over the next week, I'm going to be sharing collections of unrealised scripts by various prolific Mosaic contributors. These never had finished artwork made for them. After that, I've got one last batch of strips which are in a readable state!

Firstly, though, in this post, I'm going to walk us through all the strips I know existed, but which never saw the light of day as anything beyond unfinished artwork. Much of the information I have on these comes from this forum post made by Josh van Reyk on Seibertron, on September 11, 2007. In it, he lists the names, stars, and creative teams of a whopping 100 strips which were in various stages of production at the time. Of these, over a quarter were never released! Most of the other evidence I have comes from previews shared on the main Mosaic gallery, for which the final comics never materialised. Finally, in some cases, I've grabbed stuff from individual galleries.

We'll probably never know what most of these stories would have been like. Most of them would have been pretty bad, if we're being honest with ourselves. In at least some cases, I imagine the very reason we never saw them was just that the creators decided they were bad.

Still, the main lesson I've hoped to impart with this archive is that no comic springs into existence fully-formed. Each stage of the creative process has its own unique challenges. Everyone has to start somewhere.

At one point, she expressed that she'd started to re-draw the whole thing from scratch, but nothing ever came of it. Without the full original script, we'll never know what it is Optimus Prime says to Grapple to cheer him up...

bit of a shit head-canon but in my head seb is a dad, a really good dad despite his own shit upbringing. mostly modern Seb bc he can be more open when it comes to affection & supporting his kids etc. & I mostly picture Seb being an amazing girl dad in modern hence my oc Astrid comes in & is the reason I started having this whole head-canon in the first place right? But even though I first imagined them having a really shitty relationship bc the first time I wrote her I pictured her showing up at Seb’s door step at age 14/15 angry, a troubled kid who mirrored teen seb a lot bc essentially that is when I pictured he accidentally conceived her & bc he was a kid himself he ran & didn’t look back bc he was terrified he would be an awful father. & honestly given what he went through who could blame him? (Or ether he just never knew she even existed until then lmao, couldn’t decide which I preferred bc the latter was hilarious to me at the time)

anyway in that AU he’s confronted with a lot of the shit he had to face a lone through this kid he has to form a relationship with & he heals through that a bit. But that was really the first time Astrid Moran ever came to exist.

In most of the dad Seb AUs I’ve done he’s raised her as an adult since birth but in any AU, he’s just the complete opposite of his own father bc I like to think that even though he probably does have a lot of issues still, he can be impulsive & have a bit of a temper, he can do his best to not scar his kids the way he was scared & just tries to blow off steam when he’s out murdering for his boss instead of blowing at a toddler for pouring syrup on his shoe or something (which he would never do regardless bc Seb’s always been soft in my head, like really, truly soft. Deep down. Like he’s never lost that little five year old persona who kept a piece of the mischievousness, curiosity, play & love that kid naturally had before losing Alex at age 6.) but that view is mostly for modern Seb.

for Victorian Seb is a bit trickier for me personally anyway bc I love soft seb so much but I base off Vic seb mostly off The Hound of the D’urbersvilles the most in terms of personality & that mother fucker was FUNNY. But the bitch had major Anger, addiction & a whole slue of issues I can’t possibly try to replicate, specially towards a child bc I would only turn him into Augustus in a way & I don’t want that for Seb. So I do make him a little soft, but to make thighs more tense for him & easier for me to write that rougher Sebastian I decided his child, my OC Dorian Moran is a biracial child seb gets stuck with after he does what he does abroad, but before he can run away like he always does Dorian’s mom dies during child birth & Seb, well he has to take DAMN RESPONSIBILITY for once. Victorian Seb is harder for me in this regard bc his personality is definitely vile & abusive but even then he stands for his child a bit more than his own dad ever did for him, at least he learns to with time, even though at the beginning he is absolutely awful to him. Bc let’s face it, seb is not a patient or kid man. So dealing with a toddler is very hard for him. But despite how much he dislikes his kid & how mean he can be towards him. I like to think that seb does care for him & despite everything, he invests in Dorian’s care having a nanny for him & eventually possibly having Moriarty help him tutor the boy ( since ya know he essentially lives with the man, & yeah a brothel is not the best place to raise a kid, but he’s trying, right?) & I like to also think that at least once in his life Sebastian stands up to someone discriminating against Dorian, perhaps bc of his race or his ilegitimen status, & maybe when Dorian is older & Seb has become more fond of him bc he learns to see him as his son & recognizes quirks maybe he had in his youth & generally learns to love Dorian as the son & human being he is. At some point Seb has to come around & at least show Dorian once that he got his back. Like damn.

anyway this think pice went wildly longer than I planned bc I originally just wanted to state abt how Astrid was mostly a Modern OC while Dorian was Victorina but I went too into thought about Dorian bc I love him & I feel bad I haven’t spent more time developing his character & relationship with Seb (ooooh!! Specially bc I think it would be nice & a total slap on the face to Seb if Moriarty offered to educate the boy. Not only in maths & science & all of the academia, but as an heir of sorts, teaching him the other side of the business eventually, bc think about it, who the fuck is going to suspect a biracial lad in Victorian England runs a world wide criminal empire after the very napoleon of Crime himself , master of disguise & perception Professor James bleeding Moriarty) not only inherit him but taught him since childhood. Plus since Seb would teach him to shoot & handle guns (as a matter of manly honor obvs & not an excuse to bond with his son) Dorian would be the whole package in terms of running Moriarty's criminal enterprise, becoming an incredibly powerful assassin.

for a time after Alex’s death. sebastian still attended the primary school he had started Kindergarten with Alex the previous year and the teachers and some of his classmates from their kindergarten class knew about what had happened and where nothing but loving and understanding to Sebastian. Specially when he began to come into school unkempt, the teachers & nurse would help him wash up in the clinic before class and the lunch lady saved him a tray of lunch noticing he began to come in without & snuck around at the end of lunch nibbling on left overs left behind by some of his peers. sometimes friends of his & Alex shared lunch with him & he was mostly left alone when he would sit in the playground and talk to “Alex” he would mostly do it as he stood by the swings pushing an empty swing & smiling as if he was having the most pleasant conversation ever. The first year without Alex was heartbreaking not only to him & his family, but to those who had met the twins the year before & could see how much Sebastian was suffering. the reason he was taken out of school half way through the year was because he started to miss more and more days & the days he did show, he would look worst and worst. Once showing up with a noticiable black eye which prompted child services to be called and given Augustus connections. The boy was moved to a new school where he had no support & the bullying only started and increased as his situation at home only grew worst as time passed, leaving Sebastian to defend himself in the only way a small boy knew how to when no one seemed to care. And that was to start acting out worst and worst.

that alone should be obvious considering just how many oc’s i have and actively write, both on and off this website. i’ve been doing this ( with primarily oc muses ) for about nine years. i’ve been on dozens of platforms, and the same things tended to happen: the oc hate ran me off in the end. even here, i’ve been run off several blogs by it. it’s not fair, it’s not right, and i want to take a moment to share with you guys some of my favorite oc’s that i write with currently:

♡ daayaan has more than earned my admiration. rohini is not only a beautifully constructed, very real character, she is a strong woman of color, she is a way for the writer to connect with and celebrate an absolutely beautiful heritage, and the time & effort put into the worldbuilding and the construction of original lore for this blog has never ceased to amaze me. as a practicing witch, i’m a little hesitant about dipping my toes into witchy roleplay blogs, a lot of them do some very problematic things / overlook very important things, but this blog is so respectful, so informed, so wonderful, and it sheds light on the practice of witchcraft in another cultural context, which i love learning more about every time they post!

♡ freckledbats is an oc multimuse, which just means that there’s even more oc’s to love! z has this way of creating super real, super interesting characters. every single time they add another one, i can’t wait to pile on more threads. i can’t even pick a favorite off this blog. it’s impossible. z is so creative and so talented, and their blog offers so many different muses --- you can see the diversity in kinds of muses created. there really is something for everyone. and z is one of the kindest people i have ever met, and deserves far more recognition for their talent than they get.

♡ gunmetclgrey is one of those blogs that just blows me away by the amount of thought and love poured into one muse. alex is the daughter ( or sister, depending on verse! ) of sebastian moran, but does not in any sense take away from sebastian as a character --- i feel like she adds so much more dimension to his story, but it’s also important to note the dimension of her story! there is such a well thought out backstory, such well thought out verses, such detailed headcanon posts, and sometimes it’s hard for me to remember that alex is not a canon character. 

♡ letagin has followed nessa from the beginning --- don’t think i don’t remember your old blog, i recognized aaron’s last name immediately! watching the development of kino as a writer has been an awesome treat but i also got to see aaron develop as a character and i am just so blown away. the lore surrounding this blog is so carefully constructed, so complex and unique, that i honestly sometimes feel like there just has to be an entire book series about aaron and his world somewhere out there published by kino and gods damn it, i wanna read it. and if you think aaron’s awesome, check out kino’s multi ( pasthaunted ) for even more awesome muses.

♡ lcsingstars --- it’s no surprise that my girlfriend’s on the list. but here’s the real reason why. we first met when i wrote a canon character; and virgil’s muse absolutely loved alexina brody. when i kinda lost virgil’s muse, i made nessa again, i missed her, and kiki actually followed me over to this oc. not many people follow a writer from a canon male character to their female oc. obviously i’m glad she did. not only did it end very well for us out of character, it gave me the chance to keep writing with lexi, and to meet some of kiki’s other original characters! every single one is unique and fun to write with. i love them all so much that over 80% of the memes sitting in kiki’s inbox are from me. whoops. seriously, check this blog out. you won’t regret it!

♡ worldvisitor ; i say this all the time but seriously, i’m one of your biggest fans and when i finally get to buy a copy of your book, i want it signed. as somebody who does write ocs from in progress novels, i understand the struggles; as somebody currently trying to finish a book, i understand those struggles too. but you’ve got a best seller on the way, i just know it. reese is such a fantastic character! relatable, hilarious, strong --- and the story you’ve constructed, the world you’ve built up around her, is one of the coolest i have ever heard of. when i was first scrolling through your pages, i just told myself: holy shit this so cool what the fuck. i am so proud of everything you’ve accomplished on this blog and as far as your books go. you fucking rock!

♡ whydragons is my favorite dungeons & dragons based character of all time. i like patrck better than i like a good chunk of my own ocs. he’s always true to who he is, he’s such a good person that it makes us root for him to overcome the bad things, even though he’s an asshole the whole time. it is absolutely no surprise that you’re on this list. grump has managed to bring this character to life in a way that only a theater kid could, i think. he’s currently in multiple d&d sessions i’m running and i couldn’t be happier to get to have him around.

Intros

Hello. We don’t really have a pithy name or anything, we’re just here trying to live our best life. Below is a list of who’s currently around at the time of writing; I’ll try to remember to add in if someone else shows up. There’s always one or two people flickering around but these are the people who seem to be at least trying to stick around.

Host - Phoenix Poly, queer, 25, in multiple relationships (C, T, and A), have a young toddler (Beanlet), work in a payroll department.

Sebastian Moran  Fictive loosely from the Sherlock universe; very interactive and ‘savvy’. Fluctuates between in his 30s and in his 50s. In a relationship with a fictive in C’s headspace. Gay, loosely poly. Better at dealing with things like work and other life problems than the host, less prone to inappropriate behaviour than Diyac (see later). Keeps Alex in line most of the time. Tends to be the other one ‘parenting’ when the host can’t function enough for Beanlet.

Alex Moran Son of Sebastian. 13. Very interactive, not necessarily wise to interact with in general though he can be very charming. What he decides to do largely depends on who, if anyone, he thinks is watching. Has some pretty serious psychological issues. Adopted by Sebastian’s husband as well. (Has caused host blackouts.)

Clint Barton 1/2: largely canon, Deaf, was in a relationship with Coulson before the Battle of NY, currently single. (He’s pining, shh.) Asexual as hell. 2/2: teenage version, in a poly relationship with headmates in C’s and T’s headspaces. Kinky af but also ace af. Deaf. About 16. More interactive than the adult version.

James Barnes Fictive from the MCU. Doesn’t like to be called Bucky except by Steve. Usually quite awake but not terribly interactive, still has a lot of stuff to work through. 

Derek Hale Fictive from Teen Wolf. In a relationship with a member of T’s headspace.  Doesn’t tend to recognize people outside his canon, though there are a few exceptions.

Tony Stark You know who he is. In a relationship with a member of C’s headspace. Doesn’t tend to recognize people outside his canon, though there are a few exceptions.

Isaac Lahey From Teen Wolf. 16, in a relationship with a member of C’s headspace. Largely very isolated, doesn’t tend to notice anyone outside his canon. Moody, easily startled. 

Dean Winchester From Supernatural, though hasn’t much progressed past around season 5/6. In a relationship with someone in T’s headspace. Not very interactive outside of his canon.

Snake From Black Butler. A shy bean, only tends to front for the people who call him up (in C’s headspace). About 19, only speaks through his snakes. He has 9 of them, all with different ‘personalities’ and ‘uses’ to him.

Diyac An ‘OC’ fictive, I guess? The original headmate, along with his twin, who deals the most with things the host can’t. Doesn’t often front for no reason but will ‘shade over’ to deal with issues. Can be quite interactive if he’s in the mood, almost always awake even if not fronting. Highly sexual, highly energetic, often volatile but also curbs other’s behaviours. Most able to regulate the headspace. Also most likely to cause the host to blackout, but can cut panic attacks short.  Helps manage emotions, nasty memories, interactions with undesirables.

Kiyo Diyac’s twin. Very rarely fronts, very rarely does anything unless it’s related to trying to keep Diyac from doing something. Agender (will use he/him or ey/em), asexual. Can get em around and talking if you engage Diyac first, generally. Can ‘shade over’ to help with strong emotions when Diyac is a bad choice or is not cooperating. Helps manage emotions, nasty memories, interactions with undesirables. 

Will Graham From the TV show Hannibal. New member, still kinda feeling out the connection. Loosely in a relationship with people in C’s and T’s headspaces.

Dagger my beloved <3

Dagger is another next gen OC that I made who is literally so loveable it kills me /pos.

Dagger had a shitty household and most of the time just...vibed in the streets. Sebastian often either helps street kids by giving them food or adopts them. And by adopt I just mean he lets 'em live at his old flat and he checks in time to time. Sometimes they consider him a dad, other times he's just some Guy™. Anyway. So Sebastian offered the same to Dagger but they explained that they already had a home and that they weren't home to avoid their parents arguing.

Sebastian...let's just say he "takes care" of the parents and adopts Dagger. I think he adopted them when they were...11? Alex is the older sister though, she was 13.

Dagger wasn't always their name, they changed it with help from Sebastian. They kinda knew they were non binary since they were a kid. Obviously Sebastian is hella fucking accepting and will beat the shit out of someone if his kid gets misgendered.

Anyway!

Dagger is a conspiracy theorist and ghost nerd. Probably watched Buzzfeed Unsolved/The Watchers a lot. They also are big into pottery and other arts, thanks to their big sister. They also love anything horror related; books, movies, shows, podcasts, games...they are just a big nerd.

They're also really close with Sebastian. The both of them suffer from nightmares so whenever one notices that, they go to comfort the other. Dagger talks to their dad about stuff too, and Sebastian tries his best to help.

Have a little update because I need to say things. I’m about 1/4 of a way through a double shift today, and I’m working another double tomorrow which is hella stressful and tiring but what can you do? BUT THEN @sniper-with-a-smoke / @hclliday / Alex my bae is gonna be coming to London and I’ll be chilling with my Moran Fam so activity on all blogs will be slower for the next week. I’ve been doing things on my new oc @dieleeuin and I’m going to try and do my replies tonight/tomorrow so people aren’t waiting a ridiculously long time for things. I’ll be on mobile and on dis/cord if you want to talk abut ooc things or plots (cos I’m always up for that tbh) and expect some updates to come.
