Okay but the part of the bts scenes from yesterday that's actually sticking with me the hardest is Stede saying "I'm sure we're not the only ones who want to live forever."

Like...fuck if that's not a gut punch. Stede started out the show with such a low sense of satisfaction and expectation with his own life that when he's asked if he wants to live he goes "I dunno probably?" Ed went from being passively suicidal in s1 to the entire first three episodes of s2 revolving around how he is so convinced he's unlovable that he sees no option for him other than death. These are not two people who started the show valuing their own lives.

And now they want to live forever. That's the power of queer love, queer joy, queer community, finding people who truly care for them, finding new meaning in their lives, getting to learn that life is really worth living. And that's fucking beautiful.

Saw a tweet that said “why an inn? why did they ditch the cute little restaurant idea from s1?” and the replies were filled with sentiments such as “well no, of course they built an entire ending around one line of dialogue 🙄” and “that would require any amount of effort from the writers to build upon the existing narrative from s1”.

And that was fucking baffling to me, because oh my god, how do you miss the point that completely?

The inn isn’t the point. Personally, I read the inn as one of their whims. Next month they might decide to turn it into a bar and grill after all, and serve snake soup. Three months after that they might decide to sell it all and start their own traveling circus. What they actually do doesn’t matter, what matters is that amidst all their whims and boredom and chaos, they’ve chosen each other. They’re always going to choose each other and love each other on purpose.

Changing their temporary dream from a restaurant to an inn couldn’t matter less. They’re each other’s happy ending, not the inn.

Hilarious implication of the zaddy scene is how it implies everyone is going to get exactly the wrong idea about their relationship dynamic.

Like I do think there is no way Stede fucks normal. He's had a long time of being repressed and gay and he's going to be excited to try anything and everything with his boyfriend, and Ed is used to very casual, low-emotion relationships where he didn't feel valued, so he's going to be happy to be along for the ride.

Stede has spent long enough not doing what he wants. He's absolutely going to be in the middle of a normal conversation with Ed and swerve hard into "do you want to try wearing that collar again today? I have a theory that it'll jingle louder when I fuck your mouth than it does when I fuck your hole." They both contribute to the weird roleplay scenarios they no doubt get up to but I do think Stede's usually the one to suggest the sex parts.

But, unfortunately, Ed is the one who will know what words like "zaddy" mean, and Stede absolutely will not. And Ed will be so blinded by love and how awesome their sex life is that he will say these things in public, and every time Stede will be like "I don't know what that means 😀"

And tragically the ultimate impression on everyone around them will be that Ed is the really kinky one, when actually his biggest kink is being adored and Stede is the one who's barging in to whatever room he's in snapping on a pair of ye olde latex gloves like "you ever tried fisting before? Me neither. We're gonna find out together"
