hello people of tumblr.

So at the beginning of this week I got ill and it was fine! I had a bit of a sore throat and a fever — that’s nothing. I go through that with strep all the time. However, I went to the doctor and they did alll the tests on me. It was nothing. They basically just told me to “thug it out.” And so I did.

Yesterday, my birthday by the freaking way, it got so unbearable I couldn’t stop crying & that makes it 10x worse. I *finally* went downstairs for more tissues and said something to my parents and my dad took me to the urgent care (he was gonna take me to the ER if it wasn’t open). My entire left side of my throat is like completely and utterly swollen. White with infection and everything. It is like I’m trying to swallow around a golf ball. Today is a smaller golf ball, but a golf ball nonetheless.

My hair is disgusting (greasy :() I wake up in a pool of sweat. I cant eat, but I’m hungry. Even eating fucking bread hurts.

I had to move my birthday plans, I might have to move my grad party plans, etc. I know there’s nothing that can be done I just wish that I felt better already :(

Major Armored Core 6 spoilers (Liberator. If you don't know what that means don't click read more)

God damn the ending that I got for Armored Core 6 kinda hurts my heart. I dunno how "customizable" the endings are (like if you can reach the same end through different means, i.e. killing less people, changing your mind at the last second, etc.) but 621 ended up getting nearly everyone who ever showed them any love or care killed or ruined their dreams.

Walter? Last second, 621 decided to ignore any kind of lineage Walter wanted to create in them to ensure the destruction of the Coral. In fact, they killed him with their own hands. Or rather their own AC.

Carla? Knowingly betrayed her in her last stand against Arquebus and brought down her half-century-old supercity colony ship.

The once-welcoming teams of AC pilots (the Vespers and Redguns) are both disbanded and most of their members meet their ends. Even if 621 *didn't* decide to kill Michigan on their own, he was fated to die. Rusty would have beat him.

Speaking of Rusty, the battle on the Xylem airship was so intense that he had to run off on his own to hold up an ENTIRE Arquebus fleet of warships, solo. Naturally, despite how impressively long he held out for, he gets shot down.

You could even argue that Ayre was left in the dust a bit. Sure, 621 spared the Vascular Plant and, by extension, the Coral, from being destroyed, but the battle on the Xylem didn't *destroy* Arquebus or anything (or, it shouldn't have. Xylem isn't THAT big). The corporation was STILL the major political and military superpower on Rubicon III, and were still in control of the Vascular Plant. And even if they lost control of the VP, it's not like 621 even HAS a solution to helping Ayre's dream of human-Coral cohabitation. Her dream is still on the shelf. Like we've reached this point, and for what?

Nothing came out of 621's presence on Rubicon III except for destroying the PCA, bringing Arquebus to power, and 'discovering' a Coral containment plant. And, yes, those are important and significant things, but it didn't REALISE anything. Not for anybody they cared for. This ending is betrayal basically all the way down and it hurts so bad. Of course, I'm oversimplifying some things a lot here. I love it though.

I need to get all the endings ASAP.

Magical Kitties And Other Cat RPGs

Magical Kitties Save The Day is a deluxe, all-ages ttrpg about cat adventures.

It comes in a big box, which is half empty space and half dice, character sheets, core rules, and multiple supplements. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and that quality you see on the cover is consistent throughout the core book and supplements.

Design-wise, Magical Kitties is pretty simple. You have a few skills, a talent, and a magical power, and together they give you a d6 pool. Outcomes on checks tend towards success-with-a-complication, and I'd broadly describe the game as being oriented towards mischief and hijinks.

Of note to me, the system is *really* similar to Joel Sparks' Cats Of Cthulhu, but absent some of the interesting lore about dreaming, without the more defined character classes, and a lot softer in tone.

Kitties in Magical Kitties can, at worst, get knocked out for a scene. And that's if you let your Owies build up enough that you start getting into actual dice pool penalties. Damage goes away fast, so if you get absolutely scrapped it's more of a signal from the game to cool it for a bit than a serious consequence for your character.

The overall design in Magical Kitties is trying to split the difference between being a game for kids and a game for adults, and I think mostly it works. There's enough meaningful choice during character creation that a typical DnD group could have a great time playing a mini-campaign of Magical Kitties. And the tone is soft enough and the consequences low enough that a younger kid isn't going to get too dispirited if the dice don't go their way.

My guess would be this system works best for ages 7+. For much younger audiences, you might want to check out something like Starport.

Overall, I'd describe this is a really, *really* big budget indie game that'll appeal the most to folks who:

-love cats -are at least a little interested in rpgs

It's impossible to overstate how lovely, fun, and creative the art is, and I kind of think the game is worth it for that alone.

That said, it's far from the only cat-based ttrpg! There's lots of good ones.

I've had the most fun with Cats Of Cthulhu, and strongly recommend it to anyone with an interest in rpg design, and I've also really enjoyed GMing Secrets Of Cats.

AAAAH so I’ve been inactive/lurking for years but I need to come out from the shadows for a second to THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR OFMD METAS. Especially your takes on Stede in 6/7!! I know a lot of people have said it, (bc it’s true and right) but you describe and explain things SO WELL IT BREAKES MY HEART. AGH. THANK YOU. I feel like this last episode especially was just the culmination of Stede putting all his core insecurities into a pressure cooker and leaving them there while he focuses on everything else. We all love to point out that this man just does NOT talk about any of his core issues while they are VERY MUCH still issuing! He still believes everything bad that has happened is all his fault!! He’s still thinking about that blood spattered little boy at his core!! (side note: a famous, deadly pirate getting killed via Stede throwing a violin at his head was NUTS. that concept is NUTS. I love this show.) Honestly I think at this point it’s just finally Stede’s turn to have a breakdown, and that’s where at least some of his behavior at the end of ep 7 is coming from. Most of our major characters this season have had one where they break hard, find support, and come out on the other side of it at least a little better. He has NOT. He hasn’t had a Stede centered heart to heart with anyone yet!! He’s grown so much in so many other ways, but like you’ve said!!! He just will not OPEN UPP. Because it’s scary!! What if you finally say the thing you know is fundamentally wrong with you, and the people you love finally see you for what you are?? Why would you do that when you can just try to fix it by shoving it down and making yourself into something else instead? And then what do you do when that all goes to hell anyways?? You act a fool and get your ass beat by a pirate queen is what 😭😭. It feels like we’ve all been side eying Stede not talking about his issues and the show just went, “Yep! For sure! Now look at what it’s done for him.” That compared to everyone else working through things and starting to move on?? Owie. Absolutely delicious- but also I think I’m different now. Like, as a person. And I trust this show to work it out!! I think Stede will get there eventually!! But like. Fuckin OWIE.

Because Lord, you're right, how do we expect this man to function when he hasn't had his bathtub moment yet? And to think--he ALMOST could have. Ed was opening the door and giving him a place to talk and share vulnerabilities. Ed came in and started talking about his DAD, which as we know is a MAJOR piece of vulnerability for him. He really came in and set the stage for them to go in that direction...

Onllllyyy for adrenaline and desperation and perhaps a bit of fear to still prevail.

Like, it kills me. HE kills me. People give him the opportunity. People try and extend an olive branch. And yet still, he hides behind numerous walls. He helps other people before he helps himself. His bathtub was used for the benefit of others in episode 6 as opposed to his own. And I think that's a perfect representation of his character as a whole, really.

And man I knew, I KNEWWWW he was going to have so much to work on when the season opened up with that dream sequence. I think that dream sequence spoke on SO MUCH of what's going on in his head. It really cracked his psyche right on open. The beard, the ruthlessness, the deeper voice, the posturing, the way he doesn't "gain access" to Ed until after he's made a kill...

It was all just SCREAMING self-image issues and toxic masculinity issues and trauma to me. Not to mention how DRAMATIC of a contrast it was to Ed's. Ed loves his darling, sweet, fantastic goldfish for who he is. And it kills me that Stede can't see that yet.

But yes, I do believe we'll get there. I believe that's WHY all of this is being shown/set up. The show is very clearly telling us that Ed and Stede have issues to work through, and that their relationship is going to take mutual effort to become mature and grounded.

...But man, is the climb up to that A BIG OWCHIE INDEED LMAO.
