Jacob Ferdinand Voet - different portaits of the Mazarinettes, the collective name which indicated the seven nieces of Cardinal Jules Mazarin (Giulio Mazzarino), chief minister to the Kings Louis XIII and Louis XIV of France.  

Their names were: Laura and Anna Maria, daughter of Laura Margherita Mazzarino; Laura, Olimpia, Maria, Ortensia and Maria Anna, daughter of Girolama Mazzarino.

Mazarin wished to establish a dynasty in France and secure his legacy through advantageous marriages, but could have no children of his own as a member of the Catholic clergy. He also wanted to surround himself with his family, in whom he could confide, as he had many enemies at court.

The French royal family supervised the education of the girls. The Queen Regent, Anne of Austria, allowed for the younger children to be educated with the future king Louis XIV and his younger brother, Monsieur Philippe, Duke of Anjou.

Cardinal Mazarin arranged advantageous marriages for his nieces with powerful French and Italian aristocrats, and gave large dowries to their husbands in order to overcome their reluctance to marry women of lower origins. Many of them, in any case, will live more adventurous lives, becoming estimated women of letters or abandoning violent husbands and becoming lovers of kings and other rulers.

Olympia Mancini, Countess of Soissons (1638–1708), was one of the Mancini sisters and Cardinal Mazarin's niece. Not long after her sister Marie's marriage, she herself became Superintendent of the Queen's Household and was involved in many court intrigues. Rumors say she had become the Sun King's mistress for a brief time, but she eventually married Prince Eugène-Maurice of Savoy, Count of Soissons, and was a friend to Henrietta.

So Madame De Montespan was actually thicc?

Indeed! Contemporary sources mention the circumference of her thighs, a lot. Also, she made certain kinds of loose-fitting but still body-flattering dresses that were more accommodating to curves and also her numerous pregnancies. In the same vein, she also popularised the ‘deshabille’ look. Historians often refer to her as 'pleasantly plump.’

Antonia Fraser, in particular, writes about the late 17th century ideal of beauty: voluptuous, dimpled, with little double chins. This is absolutely referenced in contemporary poetry and portraiture. It’s what men at the time liked, and Louis was no exception. Fraser compares the lanky Marie Mancini, who felt comfortable in men’s clothing when she went out riding, to the more curvaceous beauties (like Montespan and Marie’s sister, Olympia) who were less comfortable. This was also the age of an idea called 'beauté tyrannique,’ which describes a woman possessing a voluptuous, sloe-eyed, buxom, round faced beauty that men found all-consuming and 'tyrannical.’

Lastly, you can see from portraits of Montespan that she was a chubby woman. One of the only portraits where she doesn’t look thicc is a picture of her as a child.

Renée de Noailles - As you know, I love her a lot. In every route, she's an amazingly entertaining character and I think about her a ton.

Dowager Queen Anne - So, as you'll see, the charts are a bit restricting regarding character opinions that aren't "i love them" or "i hate them", so Anne is kind of in between that. I do like her, though, and I do think VfV did a good job with portraying her, and she's entertaining and enjoyable. Plus, her interactions with Bonne are priceless.

Catherine de Gramont - She's my silly goofy girl ! I've pursued her and her interactions with Renée are AMAZING. I love her playfulness and the fact she calls us her "little mouse" all the time. Her screentime is always hilarious ! A shame she's not a full LI.

Françoise-Athénaïs de Montespan - As you can probably guess from the posts I make, I'm gay for her. Like really. No, but in all seriousness I think she was a very enjoyable villain for Season 2, and I like that if she sticks around for Season 3, you can really FEEL her presence, and her setting the social scene at Versailles. And I will always maintain my take that she should've been romanceable, and their story could've ended with a massive betrayal from her. That said, she did piss me off like crazy in my first playthrough.

Olympia Mancini - Again, the bingo is pretty restrictive towards more complex opinions. Olympia's a very interesting and complex character, to me, and I do wish she had appeared more, or we could have seen more facets of her personality than besides her ( possible ) exile scene at the end of season 3. Also, she's beautiful.

Hello L, I'm a huge Kurt fan and a friend of mine has recently read his journals. She said she was kind of disappointed when she had read a part when he says that he wanted " hot babes " to worship his band or something like that because he was kinda jealous of other bands having groupies. Sounded very macho coming from him and since I've never read it out of respect for him, I'd like you to clarify it so I can explain it to her? Bc it's really surprising from Kurt

lol! i think some of that may have been sarcasm and his own sense of humor. what you need to know about Kurt: he had a sense of humor where a looot of things were subversive and ironic. as in…if he was a comedian he’d probably do an entire bit/sketch where he was some gun totting red neck…do you get what i mean? that was his brand of humor, apeing and making fun of the men that he thought were stupid.

what i am saying is: ya’ll should not take everything Kurt says seriously. he was a very sarcastic and subversive dude. and his sense of humor leaned toward that and towards the absurd and the irreverent.

however–you’re going to have to give me the page number to this (please everyone, if you want me to read something in Kurt’s journals to elaborate on, please please provide me w the page number or else i cannot read the context) bc i need the context for it. it could have been a joke or it could have been Kurt lamenting over something like that bc you have to understand…lol people whose parents didn’t love them and love them unconditionally in childhood need a looot of love and affection when older and i imagine a lot of the time Kurt was feeling lonely, rejected, and dejected by society so it could have been him wanting company and someone to love him, nothing to do w any kind of macho or shallow ideas of that. but, idk, bc i dunno what page thats on, i’d need the page number so i can look at the context of this.

N has a copy of the journals she can search through for words so i may ask her when she gets up and edit this
