Since it came up in @canmom's post a bit ago I actually had a scrapped (I think at least, sorry if this is a repeat) mini-note on Kimi Rito's History of Hentai Manga. It was published in English by Fakku, an eromanga distributor, under that title:
It says "expressionist examination" in the subtitle but that is inherently lessor to anyone scanning it. As a book, you think it's gonna be, you know, a history of hentai manga. But it's not! It's an examination of the "semiotics" of hentai manga, from things like ahegao to tentacles to "the nipple afterimage" not making that one up its a chapter. And when it was published in Japanese this reality was a lot more clear:
Expression is the focus, not hentai as a wider category. Because, after all, its not like a history of hentai manga doesn't exist - Kimi Rito himself helped write it! And its also available in English!
(He supervised the 2014 update, Nagayama is the main writer). The issue is that the above was an academic publication, and from the Amsterdam University Press at that. It also uses the phrase "Erotic comics" for said academic market. Meanwhile, Fakku's publication was sold in mainstream bookstores and is called exactly what someone is going to search if they are interested in this topic. The Anglophone world does not say erotic comics, or even eromanga (despite my futile attempts to shift the needle), or distinguish between drawn and animated and all that crap. We say hentai. So when a curious person googles the obvious thing:
They get a book that is gonna be kind of bad for them, actually, as it is very niche and probably too high-context. While meanwhile a real resource completely exists that is what they want, but isn't gonna show up.
I can't fault Fakku for their marketing savvy, but I do think I can fault them for their white lie on the title here - its not quiiite as white as they may have hoped. May this be a PSA for everyone out there - Kimi Rito's book is the 201 textbook, don't start there based on the title alone.
first exam of the session (plant biology) done! I know I did at least 1 question wrong but it could be much worse. let's hope for the best!

Analysis from volume 1 (Narumi’s perspective) and volume 11 (Hirotaka’s perspective)
Narumi has always been worried about saving face due to her past traumas with relationships (and maybe something during high school or college in her time away from Hirotaka).
Hirotaka is shown as aloof in Narumi’s eyes.
Hirotaka saw her first. He recognizes her immediately but considers himself unimportant in her life supposing she barely remembers him. Which shows that he may have low self-esteem. He has a whole monologue when he first sees her, which shows he thinks a lot, and probably is prone to overthinking and ruminating or grooming. He gets clearly affected by her and also gets terribly nervous. Meaning he does harbor all these feelings, he merely knows how to conceal them well. He presumably has always been like this, even during their childhood? He doesn’t seem to be bothered by being alone during this period of his life. He does not interact much with the other kids, and it may hurt a little, but it does not seem to be a big problem. Narumi is the first kid whom he interacts with, in the sense of bonding and developing a friendship. I assume he had a hard time getting to know others, and she probably was, in fact, his only friend for a long while. This assumption is corroborated by her worry in volume 6 when she insists he must spend time bonding with their co-workers, and by Naoya's reaction when he discovers they are dating. Therefore, we may also conclude Hirotaka is a bit socially awkward. I don’t want to say very socially awkward because he does not repulse people, he just does not make an effort to be around them. The author herself never mentions the reason why. At a first glance, he looks like a flat and static character. But, maybe, that is simply the impression everyone has because they have their own set of problems. Considering this series is placed in the period of life that is adulthood, nobody really cares that much about others, therefore, placing Hirotaka as someone who never changes is easy for the ones around him. Their assumption of his personality, though, should not imply he is unable to feel the same emotion as them.
Made a #punchneedle #embroidery piece of #murr from the #manga and #anime series #thecasestudyofvanitas . I do apologize for not making anything in over a week. I was just grieving about my good friend that lost to cancer, but he made the choice to take the MAiD program to end his life. He will be missed, he was a good and supportive friend of mine when I was still struggling, plus he was one of my first friends that I made in #terracebc when I first moved there. So I made some artwork to make me feel better about the loss. #handmade #weebtiktok #animecat #vanitas #otaku #animeart #recycledart #漫画 #アニメ #ヴァニタスの手記カルテ #ムル #ねこ #猫 #かわいい #かわいいひと
