JULIA GARNER at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 26th 2023 wearing custom GUCCI
I’m not entirely loving this look. It’s certainly an interesting dress, and the color is amazing. However, I’m not loving how busy and just overwhelming it feels. I also don’t really like Julia’s hairstyle. It’s just not my favorite look from her.

Ozark s4 spoilers
So I read the Vantiy Fair interview with the Ozark showrunners, and now I’m just even more frustrated with the writing choices they’ve made. Particularly with Jonah. Again.
They said that Jonah having the final shot was meant to be him ‘coming into the fold’ so to speak. That he was the last family member to get on board with being a criminal. Which just proves that they had absolutely no idea what they were doing in season 4a, and most of 4b. In my write up of the issues with 4a, I mentioned that the problem with Jonah is that none of his actions fit any sort of motivation. One thing I specifically pointed out was that if Jonah’s motivation was intended to be that he was having a crisis of conscience (which the VF interview confirms), then it makes absolute no sense for him to be working with Ruth and Darlene. If the entire point is that Jonah hadn’t been fully indoctrinated into the life of crime, then that makes that plot line even worse.
Especially when the way they brought Jonah back to the family was by having Wendy admit that yeah, she’s been a monster, but she’s willing to put her own desires aside for the sake of her family. That basically confirms that he’s hurt not by the killing but by the betrayal, which makes the money laundering kinda make sense (she betrayed him, he betrays her) but goes against the intended symbolism of him ‘finally’ becoming a criminal at the end.
I saw a great tweet that said if they were going to focus the ending on Jonah, then they needed to focus more of the season on Jonah, and that is painfully true. Season 4 treats Jonah like a prop to be passed around, rather than an actual character, so the ending doesn’t have as much impact as it should. Freaking Sam gets more of a storyline than Jonah in season 4. The only indication we get that Jonah wants out of the criminal life entirely is one line in the finale, which also is just him being whatever they need to be at the moment.

My Best TV of 2022: A (Unexpectedly) Long List
This is not a problem I expected to have, early in 2022.
Back then, the quality of TV shows was so disappointing, I considered writing one of those cranky, old-school critic’s columns complaining about how the glut of shows in our modern, streaming-fueled media environment was ruining everything.
I should have just waited around a bit. Because, even though I was mightily disappointed by some of the biggest TV projects on the docket – everything from CNN+ to Lords of the Rings: Rings of Power (the repetition in the title should have been warning enough) – lots more TV shows surprised and delighted me this year. Too many to fit on a top ten or top 12 list.
In fact, there were too many to fit on this excellent roundup prepared by me and five other critics at NPR.org (we each got about eight choices). And I will fess up now – I didn’t vibe with FX’s Reservations Dogs in its first season, so I didn’t keep up with the second and it’s not on my list. Many apologies to devoted fans of a show I’m very glad exists and so many love. But I’m not among you devotees (at least not yet).
Here's my list of fave shows from 2022, in no particular order. It’s by design very subjective, so I welcome debate, but it’s about what touched ME on TV this year:
Andor (Disney+) – Started slow, but turned into a masterful reinvention of the Star Wars universe, focused on the gritty, merciless beginnings of the Rebel Alliance. Who knew a Star Wars show with no lightsabers, no Jedi Knights and no Force could be just what the franchise needed? REVIEW
Atlanta (FX/Hulu) – The last two seasons, both released this year, weren’t nearly as impactful as its first two. But this show remains an excellent showcase for creativity and ambitious storytelling in portraying the lives of a quartet of Black millennials.
Here’s a Q&A I moderated w/Atlanta cast and producers at SXSW
youtube
Better Call Saul (AMC) – This Breaking Bad spinoff stuck the landing in series finale that capped both the origin AND ending stories of criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. REVIEW
Abbott Elementary (ABC) – Sidesplitting mockumentary-style comedy about teaching in a Philadelphia school that is so good, because it’s absurd humor is so close to the actual truth. PROFILE of star Quinta Brunson.
The Patient (Hulu) – Steve Carrell delivers his most impressive dramatic role as a therapist interrogating his own messy personal history while kidnapped and forced to help a serial killer. REVIEW.
The U.S. and the Holocaust (PBS) -- Star documentarian Ken Burns reveals how antisemitism in America busted the myth that the U.S. was always on the side of the angels as Adolf Hitler took power in Germany and began implementing his Final Solution.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+) – Focused on the Starship Enterprise 10 years before James T. Kirk would take command, it’s a welcome return to a rollicking, adventure-a-week series that recalls the spirit of the original Trek series better than any other modern reboot/revival. REVIEW

Game of Thrones finale sucked, The Umbrella Academy finale sucked; Ozark and Westworld are infamous too. Why is it so hard to have a decent finale? I worry for House of the Dragon already. As of late, it’s either awful ending or cancellation with no conclusion. I don’t think I’ve seen a truly good one since The Good Place.
I did not see Ozark or Westworld, so I have no opinion. Game of Thrones was pretty atrocious and then sucked me in with House of the Dragon... and that writing, season 2, has been pretty beat.
But respectfully, anon, I disagree about The Umbrella Academy.
Tumblr media
Was the season rushed? Yes, but that is what we get out of shows nowadays-no more filler episodes or character development or general tomfoolery, just plot plot plot.
Was there an unnecessary focus on the Five x Lila Stockholm romance? Yes, but I explained in this post how I was able to cope with whatever that was.
There was a lot of good with this season. I always love whatever special guests who show up and this season was top tier, finishing with Jean and Gene, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman who were fucking perfect.
Tumblr media
I also enjoyed watching Klaus' extreme behavior with his sobriety arc, and how the new variant of Reginald allowed Victor the much needed closer that he deserved.
I guess after watching all 4 seasons of TUA, I realize that the only option could be bittersweet and the ending we got gave it in a way that was satisfyingly fucked up.
Tumblr media
Now, keep in mind, I am fresh from finishing the bullshit that was season 2 of House of the Dragon, so my bar is set low. 😆

Sorry for the long post Destiny.
I do remember what anon. was talking about in terms of Zendaya getting the Emmy nom. Cause I remember her getting the Critics Choice Nom, her wearing the iconic boob armour and braids 🤩, but the Golden Globes and SAG's ignoring the show/her. So I just assumed that the Emmy's weren't gonna look at Euphoria season 1, even with it's popularity, but when I tell you I screamed when she got that nomination in July 2020. I said, "Oh SHIT" LMAO. Then whenn it came to winning I knew she had a shot cause in my mind she was in the top 3 of the ladies nominated in that category. I thought the Emmy's #1 choice was Jennifer Aniston, just cause I heard a lot of talk for "The Morning Show" and she won the GG, #2 was Laura Linney, cause it was Ozark's last season and #3 was between Z and Sandra Oh. The other two Jodie Comer and Olivia Coleman I knew weren't gonna win, not because they weren't great, I mean it's Olivia and Jodie they are beasts, but because I heard the other 4 have more chatter that award season. But I still knew Z had a chance of winning it and she was MY 1st choice. And guess what she won. So long rant aside, sorry lol. Tom still does have a chance of being nominated. The Emmy's are funny like that. But if he doesn't that man is still young and has PLENTY of opportunities to keep making more films/T.V. shows.
Hey girl! 👋🏾
No worries for the long dissertation. Who am I to talk?? 🤣
Anyway, you spit nothing but FACTS with this post. 😁👍🏾 I remember it like it was yesterday too!! 😅
I was still rooting for Zendaya to get an Emmy even despite what other awards looked like, because I know that the Emmys are STRICTLY TV, so that's why I can't figure out why some fans have automatically just thrown in the towel when it comes to Tom and TCR?? 🥴
The awards season is NOT over yet! He still has some chances at some future nods this year.
Anyway.....
Boy I was over the moon when she got that nomination, you hear me?? 😁 And then, for us as a fandom to also start noticing that she started to like Tom's posts again on IG, to me, that was a sign that he must have reached out to her regarding her Emmy nod. 🥰
Ohhh what an exciting time that was!!! 👏🏾 😁
I honestly didn't think she was going to win. I thought Jennifer or Sandra were going to win it tbh lol 😆 I was just happy she was nominated chiiiiilllle lol! Rofl 😅
But imagine my surprise and excitement when they announced her name!!! Omg I think I jumped up to the ceiling that day! Rofl 😅 🙌🏾 👏🏾
So yea, like you said.... ANYTHING can happen.... That's why awards season is so EXCITING to me! 😁😅

aj has a new interview but it's on a site called outtv
Ahh I saw a clip from the interview back in March and was trying to find it everywhere but I guess it must’ve been released later. This was also filmed pre-strike, so she talked a bit of CM.
It’s from “Face to Face with David” and I tried to watch it on a 7-day free trial, so here’s what I can gather from it (I’ll see if I can pull up some moments soon):
AJ’s first job was at a Taco Bell
Her first acting job was a McDonald’s commercial ca. 1997.
AJ was (and still is) a super shy and reserved person growing up, so her parents put her in dance at 4 yrs old, first in ballet, and danced for a while until she wanted to do acting.
She talked about how she looked like a baby in the first few seasons of CM, so she couldn’t believe it’s her as an FBI agent.
And she says she herself could never become an actual FBI agent because she worries too much about everyone irl hahaha
She admits to not registering right away that she’s famous bc of CM and her other projects, so she’s still surprised every time it happens.
Following the previous, there was one time a guy followed her and Mekhai around a grocery store parking lot, and she freaked out bc she thought he was going to attack them and said “what the fuck is your problem?!”, only to find out he was trying to see if AJ looked familiar to him bc of CM and she immediately felt bad. (This was early on, so probably s5-7 maybe)
What made AJ want to start acting in the first place was actually bc of the show “My So-Called Life” and she was obsessed with Claire Danes
Outside of CM, AJ wants a role in Ozark or The White Lotus
She also wanted match the vibe of the interview by matching silk robes with David (the interviewer), pretty similar to Larry King and the suspenders thing lol

Jakob Ranström's Acting Career
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jakob has had a myriad of smaller parts over the years, with his biggest breaks being Lady Bird where people began making edits of him and Saoirse Ronan instead of Timothee, The Umbrella Academy where fans wanted to see more of him, Holdovers, and in Inside Out 2, where he was one of the main voices. One of the main driving forces behind his career is Agneta, who pushes him to take roles, even if he's not keen on them. This has resulted in his resume spanning genres and both film and tv.
2014 – AGE 18
"The Fault in Our Stars" – Jakob played a supporting character – a friend or fellow cancer support group member.
2015 – AGE 19
"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" – Jakob played a member of the Gladers, showcasing his versatility and ability to handle action-packed roles.
2017 – AGE 21
"Lady Bird" – Jakob played a schoolmate, highlighting his versatility and charm.
2018 – AGE 22
"Ozark" (season 2) – Jakob played the son of a law enforcement officer involved in the high-stakes drama of the Ozarks.
2019 – AGE 23
"Little Women" – Jakob played Laurie’s friend, showcasing his charm and versatility.
2021 – AGE 25
"Dune" – Jakob played a member of House Atreides alongside his brother, Felix, highlighting his versatility and ability to handle complex roles.
"Maid" (episode 2-4) – Jakob had a supporting role because of his previous work with one of the directors.
2022 – AGE 26
"The Umbrella Academy" (season 3) – Jakob played a new recruit with a unique ability, which provided platform for Jakob to explore both dramatic and humorous moments.
2023 – AGE 27
"The Holdovers" – Jakob played one of the students who was a holdover before they went off skiing lol.
2024 – AGE 28
"INSIDE OUT 2" – Jakob played a new emotion, Curiosity, who joins Riley’s emotional team as she navigates new experiences and challenges in her teenage years. This role would allow Jakob to bring a sense of wonder, charm, and playfulness to the film, adding depth to Riley’s evolving emotional landscape.

Organized Crime has finally found its showrunner
The third season, IMO, was a hot mess with storytelling. It just seemed like they didn't stay in a story for long, so we were getting new characters every 4 episodes or so. Those storylines felt rushed to me, but I still liked the season.
I preferred the first two seasons, in terms of storytelling. Obviously season 1 was Kathy's murderer and Wheatley, and then season 2 was broken down into 3 different stories.
And hopefully, he works together with SVU writers/producers so we can have more crossover events than last year. And Bensler, I need more Bensler.... And a possible crossover season premiere.
