Heart print knit by Paul Smith, pants by Emporio Armani
Dynamic knitwear has been seen in and out of fashion. Now, the coolest way to wear the trend whether layered or unaccompanied is with sophisticated nonchalance.
Graphic elements add an essential point of interest to even the simplest pieces whilst newer, classic styles add an instant update and comfort, elevating any look.

Coast Guard: Missing Submersible Experienced a ‘Catastrophic Implosion’
OceanGate Expeditions, the operator of the submersible, said it believed all five people on board “have sadly been lost.” The Coast Guard says pieces of the missing Titan submersible were found on the ocean floor, about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic.  The announcement came after debris was found near the Titanic site.  (X)
Debris from the Titan submersible, including its tail cone, was found on the ocean floor on Thursday morning, about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic, said Rear Admiral John Mauger of the U.S. Coast Guard. (X)
The debris found today was “consistent with catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” in the submersible,  Mauger said. (X)
The authorities found “five major pieces of debris” that indicated they were from the Titan, including a nose cone, the front end of the pressure hull and the back end of the pressure hull, said Paul Hankins, a salvage expert for the U.S. Navy. He said that finding these pieces of debris indicated there was a “catastrophic event.” (X)
Where the Titan submersible was found — 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic — and the size of the debris field indicates that the vessel imploded, according to Carl Hartsfield, an expert with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. There does not appear to be any indication that it collided with the wreckage. (X)
(The New York Times reporting from today’s 3pm ET press conference with the U.S. Coast Guard.)

Hankins notes that it was 'for magic, in fact, that Ficino came under the notice of the Inquisition in the 1480s, although he was able to garner enough influence in Rome to have the charge dropped' (although in fact no formal charges against Ficino were ever brought, he had certainly been scrutinized by the Inquisition as a person of interest). The Church had been deeply concerned about magical beliefs and practises ever since St Paul instructed the Ephesians to burn their magic books. In c.1456 Johannes Hartlieb lists 7 magical arts prohibited by canon law.

Escape from Alcatraz (1979)
Tumblr media
From The Shawshank Redemption to The Great Escape, stories of innocent or righteous people scratching together the means to regain their freedom is both captivating and emotional. Unlike most films, Escape from Alcatraz doesn’t “cheat” by giving us a softie of a protagonist. Without a doubt, the people in this film deserve to be jailed. Ultimately, you don't care because of the ingenuity in their plan and the fact that it’s based on a real-life story. Tense all the way through and with a terrific ending, it’s one of the best prison escape films.
In early 1960, Frank Morris (Clint Eastwood) is sentenced to the maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island. Having escaped capture many times, Frank is undeterred by the exceedingly high security measures and strict warden (Patrick McGoohan) who assures him no one’s ever made it out.
Alcatraz isn’t merely a prison; it’s a hell hole. While there are some who certainly deserve everything the guards and warden throw at the inmates, such as a rapist called Wolf (Bruce M. Fischer), many of the prisoners are sympathetic; victims of an unfair system (Paul Benjamin is serving dual life sentences for killing two white men in self-defence) or clearly reformed by the time we meet them. Alcatraz doesn’t see it that way. The objective is not to rehabilitate. It’s to make lives miserable. In fact, the warden makes a point to punish those he oversees based on how he feels about them rather than the way the justice system sees them. He’s not a cartoon but his smugness means he deserves to be knocked down a peg. That’s where Morris comes in. The odds are stacked against our protagonist. It’ll take inhuman levels of ingenuity to escape from the prison. Some of his tactics are so wild, it’ll make you feel like a moron. You think the operation will be as simple as Morris, his accomplices John and Clarence Anglin (Fred Ward and Jack Thibeau) and the fourth conspirator, Charley Butts (Larry Hankin) stealing a power tool to break through the bars at night but no. They’re going to have to MAKE the tools they need - out of nothing.
The space the escapees have to maneuver in is so tight, you’re constantly wondering what will go wrong. Clever as it might be, their plan is literally put together with bits of loose paper, paint, and mud. It just barely crosses the line into doable and the tiniest detail out of place will make the whole thing fall apart. While there might not be anything that prevents them from trying again should they fail, so much effort is being put into this attempt you can’t bear the idea of it failing. You want to see the phases work just so you can see what to see what comes next.
It’s probably better that you don’t know beforehand what actually happened on the night of June 11, 1962. The FBI’s position on the events are clear and unfortunately, they don’t make for a cinematic ending. This is where the film proves to be as ingenious as its protagonist. It’s a terrific final note.
Escape from Alcatraz deftly maneuvers over the obstacles it might’ve faced to deliver wall-to-wall thrills. Against all odds, you like the characters. You like them even more when you see what kind of plan they’ve got cooked up and you can’t wait to see it executed. It's one of these stories that's so wild it HAS to be true, which makes it a real nail-biter. (March 27, 2020)

Former Prison Transport Officer - Rogeric Hankins - Sentenced
Tumblr media
Former Private Prison Transport Officer, Rogeric Hankins, Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison (STL.News) A former private prisoner transport officer, Rogeric Hankins, was sentenced in federal court in the Western District of Missouri to nine years in federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release for violating a female pretrial detainee's civil rights by sexually assaulting her. According to the plea agreement, at the time of the offense, Rogeric Hankins, 37, worked as a private prisoner transport officer for Inmate Services Corporation.  As a private prisoner transport officer, Hankins performed the government function of picking up individuals who were arrested on out-of-state warrants and transporting those individuals back to the jurisdictions that issued the warrants.  On March 31, 2020, Hankins picked up the victim, a female pretrial detainee, from jail in Olympia, Washington, to transport her to a jail in St. Paul, Minnesota. On April 3, 2020, before arriving in Minnesota, Hankins stopped the transport van at a rest stop in Joplin, Missouri.  Hankins brought the victim into the rest stop to use the bathroom.  After the victim used the women's bathroom, Hankins led her into the men's bathroom and told her to go into the stall furthest from the door.  Once inside the stall, Hankins began to try to pull the victim's shirt up.  The victim resisted and told Hankins to stop.  In response, Hankins told the victim to be quiet and made her perform a sexual act on him.  Hankins then bent the victim over a toilet seat and raped her. "The defendant sexually abused and violently assaulted a woman in his custody, exploiting his authority and depriving this survivor of her constitutional right to bodily integrity," said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.  "This sentence sends a clear message that the Justice Department is committed to protecting victims of sexual violence carried out at the hands of any and all law enforcement officials.  The privatization of positions in law enforcement does not change the fact that these individuals can and must be held accountable when they violate our federal civil rights laws." "This former prisoner transport officer sexually assaulted a detainee who was in his custody while transporting her through Missouri," said U.S. Attorney Teresa Moore for the Western District of Missouri.  "Today, he is being held accountable for abusing his position of trust and authority.  The Department of Justice is committed to protecting the civil rights of all citizens, including those in custody." "Hankins abused his power and sexually assaulted the victim while she was extremely vulnerable," said Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of the FBI Minneapolis Field Office.  "Today's sentencing sends a clear message that those who abuse their position of power to sexually assault the very people they are sworn to protect will be held accountable.  The FBI is committed to protecting the Constitutional rights of all citizens and pursuing justice on behalf of the victims in cases like this." The FBI Minneapolis Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office. Trial Attorney Laura Gilson and former Special Litigation Counsel Fara Gold of the Civil Rights Division's Criminal Section prosecuted this case with assistance from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri. So I came up with another “never gonna write it, but” crossover idea for PP/Grey’s while doing my combined rewatch- if Izzie were to go with Bailey out to LA after she messes up her patient’s medication in S6, and then her working at Pacific Wellcare under Addison to continue her surgical residency (this is where I’d have to do research if I actually wrote it)... and then I remembered Cristina’s stepdad Saul Rubenstein the plastic oral surgeon. And if I were to do this I would incorporate him, which meant fancasting the role- I was looking for young 80′s (now) Jewish actors to match Tsai Chin (now 86) who plays Helen.
Tumblr media
So some of my picks...
Tumblr media
Ron Rifkin who was working with ABC a lot at this time
Tumblr media
Judd Hirsch
Tumblr media
Elliott Gould who worked with KH on Doubt not too long after would also be feasible but I don’t get the same joy imagining him interacting with Sandra as Cristina
Tumblr media
I’m really partial to Dan Hedaya because of Clueless
and then two more out-there picks are: Larry Hankin (but there’s not a lot of gifs of content from him around the time to help me imagine it) or Paul Michael Glaser
