It's October 15th, ♀️ International Day of Rural Women. Since 2008, the United Nations has been sponsoring this annual event as part of its overall commitment to eradicating poverty, hunger, and inequality all over this world. The UN believes that improving the lives of Rural Women is the key to making this happen.
Rural women ensure food security for their communities, build climate resilience, and strengthen economies. Yet, gender inequalities, such as discriminatory laws and social norms, combined with a fast-changing economic, technological and environmental landscape restrict their full potential, leaving them far behind men and their urban counterparts.
Women make up more than 40% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries, ranging from 20% in Latin America to 50% and more in parts of Africa and Asia. Yet these women face significant discrimination when it comes to pay, land and livestock ownership, and access to the credit, resources, markets, and decision-making processes that could help their farms succeed and flourish. Giving women the same opportunities as men could raise agricultural production by 2.5 to 4% in the poorest regions and reduce malnourishment by 12 to 17%.
Let's recognize the work these heroines perform within our world's food systems and support the efforts of those who are fighting to establish equal opportunities for all rural women. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

Getting One’s Due: An Episode in the 19th-Century Book Industry
In honor of #WomensEqualityDay today, we take a look at Reading Room Intern Lydia Shaw’s research into 19th-century author Mary Abigail Dodge. Check out Lydia’s blog post to learn how Dodge called out her publisher, Ticknor & Fields, for pay inequality in the 1860s.

💸✊🏿🎨🗣#ArtIsAWeapon #BlackWomensEqualPayDay 8.13.2020 #graphics and #information reposted from @voltedvoices @nytgender and #artist @gobeeharris Swipe ⬅️ _______________________ Reposted from @voltedvoices Today, August 13th is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, the approximate day a Black woman must work into the new year to make what a white non-Hispanic man made at the end of the previous year. Black women make only $0.62 per $1.00 a white man makes. This means that it takes Black women in the U.S. 20 months to earn what white men make in a year. And the impact is that over the course of her career, a Black woman will lose nearly $1M dollars.        To really make an impact, we need systemic changes. You should be advocating for government policies to bridge the gap. In your workplace, push for more transparency as it relates to pay. And, when you find yourself at the negotiation table with Black women, pay them what they are worth AND owed. What are you doing to change the narrative? Help us spread the word by sharing this post on your story, to raise awareness of this inequity.    _______________________ Reposted from @nytgender In the midst of a pandemic that has highlighted racial and gender disparities, a new report from the National Women’s Law Center reveals sobering statistics about Black women and equal pay. Nationally, Black women working full-time, year-round earn 62 cents for every dollar paid to their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts, according to the report — a number that may exacerbate the already disproportionate effects of Covid-19 on Black women. Black women in the U.S. make up 11 percent of essential jobs such as home health aides, nursing assistants and cashiers, according to the @nationalwomenslawcenter, despite being 6.3 percent of the workforce overall. They are overrepresented in many of the industries facing coronavirus-related job losses. #BlackAugust #EconomicJustice #VoltedVoices #ShareBlackStories #EqualPay #EqualPayToday #WageGap #injustice #BlackWomen #PayInequity #EqualRights #awareness #negotiate #transparency #TraScapades https://www.instagram.com/p/CD16jDDAkwS/?igshid=ozizbtxqeshs

Megan Rapinoe Celebrates Diversity of U.S. Women's National Team -  Loved Megan Rapinoe's speech which reflects so much of what I see and believe in my business - "This group is so resilient, has a great sense of humor....and badass. It's about women have white girls, black girls, and everything in between, gay girls and straight girls,  with tatooes and dreadlocks. It is an honor to lead this team out in the world!" This might be a reason I think Women TIES with its Women's Athletic Network makes so much sense. Female athletes are just like women entrepreneurs including each other, working for pay equality and being badass at their work.

“…the difference between the occupations and industries in which men and women work has recently become the single largest cause of the gender pay gap, accounting for more than half of it. In fact, another study shows, when women enter fields in greater numbers, pay declines — for the very same jobs that more men were doing before.”

Malcolm X told us a racist system will try to satisfy us with symbolic victories rather than economic equity and real justice! Pancake boxes, statutes, mascots etc is NOT enough!!!!! This to means little to nothing. SYSTEMATIC RACISM MUST BE ELIMINATED AND THE PERPETRATORS MUST BE PUNISHED! #unequalpay #paygap #racialeconomicinequality #racialeconomicinequalities #racialeconomicandsocialdiscrimination #racialeconomic #racism #workplaceracism #blm #blacklivesmatter #fairhousing #racialeconomicinequality #redlining #fairlending #civilrights #gentrification #payinequality #genocide #whiteprivilege #privilege https://www.instagram.com/p/CCKuY4Xnq1z/?igshid=ff3xezq3bozb

Its amazing how relevant Malcolm X teachings are still today. Stay focused! Pancake boxes and statue removals aren’t enough. Systematic racism and oppression such as unequal pay, racial economic inequality, fair housing, fair lending, redlining, educational inequality etc. and accountability for those who violate those civil/basic rights is what NEEDS to happen! #malcolmx #blm #blacklivesmatter #racism #paygap #unequalpay #payinequality #racialpaygap #equalpay #fairhousing #racialeconomicinequality #redlining #fairlending #civilrights #gentrification https://www.instagram.com/p/CCJvHwBn7v_/?igshid=1k3iucyoldfdn

Monique actually has a claim under Section 1981. I applaud her efforts. I wish more Black women spoke out about their pay inequities. I hope she forges through the backlash. Its a battle and a lonely road, I know personally. Was called a racist just this week for protesting unequal pay. Follow my page Black Women and the Pay Gap on Facebook! ____________________________ Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866 (Section 1981) A federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, and ethnicity when making and enforcing contracts. Section 1981 specifically grants all individuals within the US jurisdiction the same rights and benefits as "enjoyed by white citizens" regarding contractual relationships (42 U.S.C. § 1981(a)). Courts have interpreted Section 1981 to apply to the employment context, including at-will employment and the independent contractor relationship. Section 1981 also prohibits retaliation. It does not prohibit discrimination on the basis of any other protected class. Section 1981 applies to all private employers and labor organizations, but does not apply to discrimination by the US federal government as an employer. It also does not apply to state or local government employers. Section 1981 does not require an individual to exhaust administrative remedies by filing a charge before any government agency and waiting for that charge to be adjudicated or released before proceeding to court. There is no damages cap under Section 1981. #equalpay #payinequality #payinequity #paygap #genderpaygap #genderpayequality #section1981 #blackwomenequalpayday https://www.instagram.com/p/B45cv1cnebn/?igshid=g3sbn07vgt5l
