Merry Christmas
Tumblr media
(Don’t own the art, he is sooooo adorable)
Moon/MALE!READER!
Warning: moon being sweet for once.
Orange-sun
Light blue- moon
Red-y/n
Purple-narrative
Pink-me(A/n)
Summary: moon decides to pay y/n a visit, and wish him a merry Christmas.
Sitting at the desk bored ass hell, you decide to pull out your phone and watch some videos.
Daycare closed and lights off, you don’t fear much about moon.
Since he hates your guts, he tends to leave you alone when the lights go out.
And it being Christmas, and you not having much family around.
You enjoy the quiet night. Watching a video by Bailey Sarain, you enjoy the chillin stories about how the murders that taken place.
Not only the stories but her makeup as well, your too shy to dip into the makeup category but that doesn’t stop you from enjoying watching some one do it.
Maybe one day when your more comfortable you’ll open that part of your life, but not now.
The most you do is paint your nails.
Signing softly, you lean back in your seat, taking your eyes from the screen.
Looking up, you jerk. Almost falling out the chair. “God! Moon! Damnit don’t do that shit!”
Moon snickers “naughty, naughty words y/n. You should really watch your mouth” you get up from the seat and glare.
“Don’t sneak up on people, and those words won’t come out my mouth.” Moon hums and leans against the desk.
“Why didn’t you take the day off like the rest?” You look confused.
Moon rolls his eyes “Christmas is today yes? Why didn’t you take off?” Your eyes widen and you shrug.
“not really Christmas when you have no family or friends to celebrate it with” Moon hums.
*we should spend the night with him moon, oh our very first Christmas!” Moon grimaces.
*oh don’t be like that! Come on pleassseeee!* Moon sighs giving in.
“What do….you do on Christmas?” You look at Moon. “Since when did you care?” Moon growls.
“don’t be a smart ass”
*Gasp* *naughty word Moon!*
Moon ignores sun.
You sigh “um bake cookies, decorate them, wrap presents, drink hot cocoa….I think that’s all. Well that’s what I did as a kid.” Moon looks confused.
“Hey, my parents told me Santa wasn’t real, so I wrapped presents for friends and other family when I was younger, more help the merrier” Moon blinks and nods slowly.
“Well than, we should start the cookies first” Moon pushes himself off the desk and starts to walk toward the door.
“None of the guards should be here tonight so we should have the Plex to ourselves”
You nod, y’all walk to the cupcake cafe, being the creepy thing it is. You let Moon walk in first. “The staff should have left some cocoa out, I think sun overheard them speaking about it”
You hum as Moon gets to work, taking out the ingredients for the cookies.
You start to look for frosting and edible cookie decorations. Finding them you take them out and set them on the counter.
Moon gets finished making the batter and starts to role out the mix.
You grab the cookie cutters and start to make trees, stockings, ornaments, etc. Moon grabs the cut cookies and placed them on a sheet.
Getting done and helping moon put them on the sheet, Moon grabs the scraps and discards them while you place the cookies in the oven.
“We should start on the cocoa, sadly we don’t have presents to wrap.” You shrug not really caring.
*OH OH we can make pictures! Drawings!* exclaims Sun.
Moon nods.
“How about we make something in the daycare, while waiting for the cookies.”
Walking back to the daycare you and moon start to make drawings and paintings.
Getting done with that y’all walk back to the cupcake Cafe and make cocoa.
Moon pulls out the now done cookies and put them down to cool.
While the cookies cool, your dropping marshmallows into the hot chocolate.
Moon starts to decorate the cookies than transfer them on a plate.
Y’all walk back to the day care and sits down.
You take a cookie and takes a bite humming softly. Sipping your cocoa, moon leans back watching you.
“Merry Christmas” you turn back and look at him smiling softly.
“Merry Christmas”
*AWNNNNNN*squeals sun.
A/n: Merry Christmas!

the right reasons
yang hongseok x gender neutral! reader
recent college grads nonsense idk || 5.9k
** there is some drinking in this (they are of age, after all), but no swearing uwu**
finally, a fic not inspired by a taylor swift song, shocking, I know (I listened to cruel summer on a loop while I was writing this though, I think y’all will see why)
summary: when your best friend, hongseok, decides to audition for bachelor in paradise after graduation, you don’t want to believe it ….. mainly because you’re in love with him, even if you haven’t realized it yet
“Do you think I should apply?”
You look up. The two of you are watching The Bachelor in his apartment. Hongseok’s the only other person you know who’s into it. Once you found out, you immediately agreed to watch it together. Ordering takeout and making fun of the contestants has been your tradition ever since you met 4 years ago.
“I’m confused,” you say. You were checking your phone during the commercials.
“Bachelor in Paradise,” Hongseok replies, gesturing to the TV. “They’re casting for next season, there was an ad.”
“That came out of nowhere.” He doesn’t look phased.
“We’ve graduated now,” he says. “I don’t know what else to do with my life.”
“You have a point,” you reply. It’s been one month since all of you finished university. Lots of your other friends had jobs lined up beforehand, but you and Hongseok still have no idea what you’re doing.
“Right?” He grins. “I could go on, I’d have something to do, then I’d come back and I’d have a bunch of new Instagram followers and I could do sponsorships or something.”
“You realize that sounds crazy, right?” You grab a french fry from the box on the coffee table.
“It’s not!” You roll your eyes. “Think about it y/n, I’m smart, funny, attractive, nice-”
“Wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong, but okay.” He laughs.
“I’m exactly what they’re looking for on these shows.”
“But you want to go on for the wrong reasons.”
“Shhhh,” he tells you. “Nobody needs to know that.”
“What’s your story then?” You ask.
“I grew up seeing my parents being so in love,” you make a gagging noise, but he keeps going. “And now, I want that kind of love for myself. The apps are just no good, and I need to find a special someone to spend the rest of my life with.”
“Jesus christ,” you mutter. “You didn’t mention anything about your personal journey to find love.”
“Oh right,” he says. “Now that I’m finished university, my main focus is to settle down, get married, have kids, and I’m on my personal journey to find all of that.”
“Amazing,” you fake clap for him. “You’re a shoo-in.”
“There’s no harm in applying, right?” He shrugs. “I doubt it’ll lead anywhere, but it could be fun.”
“I guess so,” you admit. “Your chances are slim, but you never know.”
“What do you mean?” He says, offended. “Have you seen me in a swimsuit?”
“Shut up.” You throw your napkin at him, but you’re laughing.
Hongseok offers to grab you another drink, so you tell him yes. He doesn’t mention anything else about the show for the rest of the night. By the time you’ve gone home, it’s completely slipped your mind.
===
When Hongseok invites you over 2 weeks later, you assume he just wants to hang out and have dinner. You’re shocked when he sits you down on the couch and says he has news to share.
“You’re dating someone.” He shakes his head. “Someone died.”
“No,” he tells you, laughing. “I love how those are your first two guesses though.”
“What is it?”
“I got a call yesterday from the Bachelor in Paradise producers...”
“You’re joking.” You didn’t expect that to go anywhere. You just assumed Hongseok would send in his audition tape and never hear back. The possibility of him actually being on the show makes you feel uneasy. “Really?”
“Yes, y/n, really.” He sits down on the armchair, facing you. “They want to meet me in person next week.”
“Oh my god,” you say. “Congratulations.”
“You don’t sound that happy,” he smirks. “Are you jealous?” You shake your head right away.
“I’m just surprised.”
“You didn’t think they’d want me?” He asks quietly.
“No, of course not,” you reassure him. “You’re kind, and funny, and attractive, why wouldn’t they want you?”
“Exactly,” he grins at you.
“So are you gonna go?” He nods.
“Why not? The worst they could do is say no.”
“That’s so exciting,” you tell him. He seems very happy about it, and the last thing you want to do is bring him down. As his best friend, you should definitely be supportive.
“Will you come with me?”
“What?” You glance at him.
“Downtown, for my interview,” he clarifies. “I have to take the train down and meet them there, I don’t really want to go alone.”
“Are you nervous?”
“A little bit,” he admits. “I’d just feel better if I had someone with me.”
“What about Changgu?” Hongseok shakes his head. “Shinwon?”
“You’re my first choice.” That catches you off guard. “We can make a day of it,” he suggests. “We can go to that bakery you wanted to try on Queen, and we can go shopping, get dinner, it’ll be fun.”
“Sure,” you say. Going on adventures with Hongseok is always a good time. “How long will your interview be?”
“They didn’t say,” he replies. “I just know it’s at 10 on Wednesday.”
“Cool,” you pull out your phone so you can put it in your calendar. “So if it goes horribly, I can cheer you up, and if it goes well, we can celebrate.”
“Sounds good.” He smiles at you. “Thanks y/n.”
You nod but there’s a small part of you that’s anxious. You decide to ignore your feelings for the time being. Your day with Hongseok is going to be great, you should focus on that and enjoy your time together.
===
Hongseok meets you outside the train station the morning of his interview. The first thing you notice is how nicely he’s dressed. As he gets closer to you, you notice he smells really great too.
“I should’ve dressed up some more,” you mutter, glancing down at your own outfit. You’re dressed like you’re going to class, while Hongseok’s dressed for a first date.
“You look fine, don’t worry.” He heads towards the entrance, so you follow close behind.
You were right to have Hongseok come early, as the train is at the platform the second you get there. He follows you to the back of the car, and sits down facing you.
He hasn’t seen you in person since he asked you to join him on this trip. Apparently he went on a shopping trip with Changgu yesterday. That’s when he got his current outfit.
“No wonder this cardigan is so nice, you couldn’t have picked out anything like that yourself.” Hongseok rolls his eyes at you, but he’s smiling.
The train leaves soon after. Hongseok watches out the window like a little kid. He keeps his eyes on the station until it’s all the way out of sight. And you keep your eyes on him until he catches you looking.
“Are you nervous?” You ask him. He shakes his head, but you notice his leg bouncing up and down.
“It’s just like a first date, right?”
“Exactly,” you reassure him. “And you’re great at those.”
“Are you sure?” He asks. “You’ve never been on one with me.” You don’t know how to respond to that. You almost want to tell him to take you on one. But you’re just friends, you remind yourself, you can’t do that.
“You’ve dated more people than I have,” you point out. “You’ll be fine.”
“I hope you’re right.”
The two of you sit in silence for a little while. Hongseok goes on his phone, so you focus on yours. You brought your AirPods so you can listen to music or watch a show while Hongseok’s busy with the producers.
“y/n-” You look up. Hongseok looks like he’s about to ask you something, but he hesitates.
“What’s up?” He shakes his head.
“What’s the plan for the rest of the day?” He asks you. You know that’s not what he was planning on saying, but you go with it.
“While you’re busy, I’ll get us breakfast,” you tell him. “There’s a café across the street, let me show you.” You sit down next to him so you can show him your phone. When he leans over to get a look at the screen, you’re suddenly aware of how close he is. You push it out of your mind.
By the time you’ve planned out your day, you’ve arrived at the train station. The two of you grab all your things and leave the train. Once you’re out of the station, the interview location isn’t too far away. There’s still 20 minutes before Hongseok’s meant to be there. He’s adamant about getting there early though. Although he won’t outright say it, you can tell he’s nervous. No wonder he brought you instead of one of his other friends; they wouldn’t let him live this down.
Once you get there, there’s a line of all the other candidates running through the main hallway. You and Hongseok join the end of the line.
“You don’t have to stay,” he tells you. You shake your head.
“It’s fine,” you say. There’s a check-in desk a few metres ahead of you. “I’ll stay until you get past there.”
“Okay,” he replies. “Thanks.” You bump your shoulder against his.
He’s brought his application package with him, so you ask to look it over while the two of you wait. There’s tons of pictures of him, some of them shirtless, which you quickly flip through. Then there’s copies of all of Hongseok’s identification. At the very back, there’s the printed copy of his application. You move that to the front, flipping through to make sure he didn’t leave anything blank.
He never asked you to look over his online application before he handed it in, so you’re interested to see what he had to say. There are the stereotypical questions about his career, education, background, and all of that. But there are also some more personal questions further down.
Why do you want to be on this show? Are you prepared to get engaged at the end of the season?
Hongseok’s answer is cookie cutter perfect. He knows he’s the prime candidate for this kind of show. Kind, good-looking, easy to fall for. He’s played to all his strengths in his application. You know he’s lying about being prepared to propose at the end of the show, but everyone does that. His answer comes off as genuine though.
The line moves up a little bit while you flip to the next page. It’s all about his dating history. You’re shocked at how invasive these questions are. Then again, if it’s for reality TV, it has to be.
The first section asks for a detailed dating history from the past 5 years. You’re familiar with all of that. He’s never told you about any ex-girlfriends, or anyone he’s currently interested in. He’s a casual dater, and you’ve never seen him tied down for too long. The maximum amount of dates he’s been on with one person is 3. You haven’t seen anyone get past that point. He seems to get bored easily. You’re honestly surprised he’s been friends with you for this long.
Despite all of his casual dating history, he’s made it clear he’s ready to settle down now. You thought he was just making this up to get on the show, but the more you read, the less you’re sure. Maybe he’s just persuasive.
The line moves a little bit more. Now there are just 3 other people ahead of you. Hongseok’s on his phone again. You figure you have enough time to skim the rest of his answers.
Have you ever been in love? is the next question. You know the answer is no, so you’re surprised when there’s a couple paragraphs written underneath it.
I have, but I was never brave enough to act on it. You try to read the entire section as quickly as you possibly can, but your brain doesn’t work that well. You grab some words here and there, years, class, close friends but not enough to fully comprehend.
“C’mon y/n,” Hongseok says to you. “We’re next.” He holds his hand out for the folder.
You glance down at the page you’re on. Although you want to read the rest, you also realize you’ve stumbled upon something incredibly personal. Granted, Hongseok may wind up sharing this on national television, but for now, it’s none of your business.
“Here,” you close it and hand it to him.
“Thanks.”
Hongseok gets checked in soon after that. It takes about 5 minutes for them to verify his identity and double check his application. Finally, they direct him to a room down the hall where he’ll meet some of the producers. They tell you you can’t go beyond this point.
“Good luck,” you say to Hongseok, not sure what else to say. He smiles.
“Thanks y/n.”
Some of his hair is falling in his face, so you reach out to quickly brush it out of the way. When you pull away, he’s looking at you with an expression you’ve never seen before. It feels surprisingly intimate.
“Text me when you’re done,” you tell him, pulling yourself out of your thoughts. “You’ll be great.”
He nods, and the two of you go your separate ways. You know you’ll see him again in an hour, but it still feels weird to say bye to him like this. You hope nothing changes if he does wind up on this stupid show.
You walk out the doors onto the sidewalk again, thankful for the fresh air. You pull your AirPods out of your bag, so you can listen to some music. As you walk along the street, you can’t help but think of Hongseok and what he might be saying to the producers in there.
You tell yourself you’re curious just because you’re best friends. But you can’t get that look on his face out of your mind. You have no idea what it means. You’re just really close friends, right?
You turn the music up, hoping to distract yourself. It works until you pass a small playground. You can’t help but think of Hongseok yet again.
The two of you met during your university’s orientation week, but it wasn’t until halfway during the semester that you actually spoke to him. You knew you were taking some classes together, but you never really thought about it until then.
Speaking in class was something that always terrified you, but one of your professors was adamant that everyone do it in order to get full marks. It took a while for you to work up the courage to raise your hand that day in October. When you were called on, you hesitated for a second, before sharing your answer. You don’t even remember the question anymore, you just remember your professor outright laughing at you. You’d been so sure you were right, but your professor made it very clear that you were not. Right away, you threw all your things into your backpack and ran out of the lecture hall. Your heart was beating so fast and you had no idea where to go. You wound up outside, walking as far as your legs could possibly take you, until you found a park off campus. As soon as you sat down on the swings, you couldn’t help but cry.
It was one thing to get an answer wrong, but to have your professor react like that was humiliating. You were never going back to that class ever again. You’d drop the course, or only show up on test days, whatever it took to never see that godforsaken man ever again. You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t even notice when someone sat down on the swing next to you.
After that day, you and Hongseok quickly became friends. You still can’t believe he was kind enough to follow you out of class like that, but he always tells you it was nothing. As you think back to it now, you can’t help but feel a rush of affection for him. Maybe he is more than a friend to you.
You head to the playground and sit on the swings alone, thinking back to some of your other memories with Hongseok. He’s always been there for you to lean on, and you’ve always done the same for him, like today. You remember feeling this way when he’d specifically asked you to come with him. At this point, you’re about 90% sure you have feelings for him. You don’t know how you didn’t clue in earlier.
You stay there until your phone buzzes. Hongseok’s done sooner than you expected. He says he’ll meet you at the café where you wanted to get breakfast. You respond, saying you’ll see him there soon.
You didn’t walk that far, so it only takes about 5 minutes of speed walking to get back there. When you spot him waiting outside on his phone, you can’t help but smile.
The two of you head inside, while you tell him what you got up to. You say you found a park bench and wound up doing some work there. He rolls his eyes and tells you you should’ve found something more entertaining to do.
After you’ve got your food and sat down, you ask him about the interview.
“It was okay,” he says, taking a sip of his coffee. “I think they liked me.”
“What do you mean think?”
“It seems like they believed me when I told them how passionate I am about my journey for love.” You smirk at that.
“Are you sure you weren’t speaking from the heart?”
“Of course I was y/n,” he says, jokingly. “How dare you insinuate I’m applying for the wrong reasons.”
You’re still unsure if he’s joking or not. After your earlier revelation, you’re praying he is.
He tells you some more about the interview and the producers. Apparently they asked even more invasive questions about his dating history, like his body count. That makes you cringe.
“If they offer you a spot,” you ask, “which I’m not saying they will, but if they do, would you take it?” You expect him to say yes right away, but he ponders it for a second.
“I don’t know,” he replies. “What do you think I should do?”
You want to tell him to say no, and to stay at home. Preferably so you can spend more time with him, and then maybe he’ll realize he’s into you as well. But you can’t say that, of course.
“I think it could benefit you,” you tell him, honestly. “But it’ll also change your life in multiple different ways, and that’s something you’d really have to think about.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” you hesitate, taking a sip of your drink. “Assuming you wound up in a relationship by the end of the season, the odds of it working out aren’t that high,” he laughs at that, but doesn’t disagree. “Anyone you date after that will always see you as that guy who was on Bachelor in Paradise. You’ll probably have a wider range of people to choose from, but a lot of them will be fake too, so, it’s up to you.” You shrug.
“All valid points,” he replies.
“I don’t know if you’re ever planning on settling down,” you admit. “But if you do, it’ll affect that and whoever you wind up with.”
“I would like to settle down someday,” he says quietly. You glance across the booth at him. “What?”
“I’ve never really thought about you in a long term relationship. It doesn’t seem like your type of thing.”
“It could be,” he tells you, “with the right person.”
You just nod, afraid you might say something stupid if you open your mouth.
Once you’re finished eating, the two of you head out to the closest subway station. You have a list of stores you want to visit, and Hongseok happily follows along. He helps you pick out some gifts for your friend’s upcoming birthday and some clothes. He winds up buying some things for himself as well. You joke that he’ll have to buy an entirely new wardrobe if he winds up on national television. He promises to take you swimsuit shopping with him if that happens. That makes you roll your eyes, but you’re blushing the whole time.
You stop for lunch at a random fast food chain, then head to that bakery you told him about the week before. The two of you get some extra goodies for your roommates as well.
Finally, it’s almost 7 o’clock and you decide to go to a decent sit down restaurant for dinner. Earlier you told Hongseok you were in the mood to drink tonight, so he promised to take care of you. He lets you pick where to go, so you choose a restaurant with a rooftop bar. You know he likes to take nice photos for his Instagram feed.
The food is good, and the drinks are even better. You only have a few, but you can feel them getting to you. Hongseok’s extremely entertained by you. Normally you’re not this talkative, but you’re asking more questions and telling him more random things than usual.
You wind up telling him the truth about how you wound up at the park this morning. He’s surprised you lied, but you refuse to tell him why. Instead he just smiles and tells you it’s cute you thought of him. You wind up blushing profusely, hoping he doesn’t notice. The two of you reminisce over some other memories from early on in your friendship. You’re surprised he remembers them as well as you do. Maybe that means something.
When you’re finished eating, you stay a little longer. Hongseok has 2 drinks as well, but he can handle his liquor much better than you. It seems to have no effect on him at all. By the time you leave, it’s almost 9:30.
The second you step out of the restaurant, you’re met with a crowd of people. As you awkwardly navigate yourself around them, you’re separated from Hongseok. Once you’re free, you glance around, afraid you might have to call him. Thankfully, he’s waving at you from a couple metres ahead. You run over to him and immediately interlock your arms.
“C’mon,” he says, pulling you in the direction of the train station. You could have taken the subway back, but Hongseok suggested you walk instead, as it’s not too far. It’s dark out now, but it looks nice with all the street lamps lit up.
“I forgot to ask something about Bachelor in Paradise,” you say as the two of you head down the sidewalk. “Did they mention when they’ll get back to you?”
“In two weeks or so.”
“Will they let you know if you get rejected?” Hongseok smirks at that.
“Do you want me to get rejected?” You know he’s joking, but you can’t bring yourself to smile.
“Yes.” You mumble, mostly to yourself. Hongseok must not hear you.
“I was scared earlier,” he says. “But it might be fun. It’s a free vacation, technically.”
“Yeah, for the cost of your sanity.” That makes him laugh too. You rest your head against his arm.
“Do you think I could actually find someone worthwhile on there?” He asks quietly. “I know the premise is to date multiple people, but maybe I could find something real.”
“Hongseok-” You almost want to punch him. You wish you could yell at him, here on the sidewalk, and tell him off for not realizing there’s been something real right in front of him for the past 4 years, but you can’t bring yourself to do it. “Please.”
“I know, it sounds ridiculous, but you never know.” You two turn the corner and wind up right in front of the train station’s main entrance. “Crazier things have happened.”
You don’t know if it’s because you’re tired, or slightly drunk, or what, but you pull your arm out of his and turn to face him.
“Hongseok-” He glances into your eyes. This time, he notices something serious is happening.
“y/n, what is it?”
“Please don’t go,” you say quietly. He takes a step closer so he can hear you better. “Just… don’t do it.”
“I mean, I haven’t made up my mind yet,” he says, awkwardly. “But I thought you wanted me to do what’s best for me.” You shake your head.
“I was wrong,” you tell him. “I can’t do it.”
“You can’t do what?” You freeze. You wish you hadn’t used that choice of words, but at this point, there’s no turning back now.
“I can’t stay here and watch you on TV, dating other people, kissing other people, being with other people.” You’re not dumb, you know what the fantasy suites on that show are for, and imagining Hongseok in one of them with somebody else makes you simultaneously want to cry and throw up.
“I don’t understand.” You groan. You were hoping that would’ve been enough to get your point across, but of course, your best friend isn’t that smart.
“I’m going to be so jealous.” You hate yourself for even saying it, but it’s true. Hongseok reaches out, taking your hands in his. “My heart can’t handle it.”
“y/n,” he says. “You’ll always be my best friend, regardless of what happens-”
You pull your hands away from his. You don’t understand how he’s not getting it at this point. Granted, you’re not thinking clearly because of the alcohol, but he should be able to read between the lines.
“That’s not what I meant,” you tell him. “I don’t just want to be your best friend.”
“What?” It seems like it’s starting to click now. But just to be sure, you decide to outright say it.
“I’m in love with you.” It comes out louder than you intended, but the second you say it, you know it’s true. Even though the realization only, truly, hit you today, you’ve never been more sure of anything in your life. Your heart is beating a million miles a minute, but it doesn’t matter. “Hongseok, I love you.”
“You do?” He asks quietly. You nod, too scared to say anything else. “I don’t know what to say.”
You wait, not sure what to say either. Both of you just stand there, awkwardly staring at each other for a few seconds. Panic starts to set in at that point, maybe you shouldn’t have said anything.
“y/n-” You can tell from the tone of his voice that he’s going to turn you down. You really shouldn’t have said anything at all.
“It’s okay.” You cut him off right away. You don’t want to hear him outright rejecting you, not now. “It’s okay.”
“y/n, I-” You reach over and press a finger to his lips. Maybe he’ll just brush it off as you being drunk, that’s what you’re hoping for anyway. You wish you could take it back, but that would be the next best thing.
“Really,” you force a smile. “It’s okay. I’m sorry.” You glance at the time on your phone, realizing your train will be there any second. You don’t want to think about the awkward train ride home.
“Here,” you tell him, gesturing towards the entrance to the train station. “You can take this one and I’ll wait for the next one, it’s okay.” Maybe if you say it enough times, it’ll be true.
“y/n, I can’t leave you waiting here for an hour on your own.”
“Fine, I’ll take a cab,” you tell him. “Just go, before I make a fool of myself again.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he walks through the doors, so you awkwardly follow him. “Nothing’s changed.”
That hurts more than an actual rejection. You could tell he doesn’t have feelings for you too, but for him to dismiss your feelings like this stings. You can’t stand sitting next to him in dead silence on a 30 minute train ride. You can feel the tears starting to form in your eyes, but you try to ignore them.
Once you’re both on the platform, the train is already there, waiting.
“I’m going to go down there,” you say to him, pointing to the far end of the train. “Don’t follow me.” You hope he can’t tell your voice is about to break.
“Okay,” he replies, right away. That hurts too. You expect him to say something else, but he jumps into the first car.
You wait until he disappears from your sight before you turn and walk all the way to the other end of the train. Once you’re inside, and you’ve found a seat by the window, you take out your phone. You were hoping there would be some kind of text from Hongseok, but there’s one from your roommate instead.
Hongseok called me and said the two of you are out right now and he was going to take you home but something happened ???
You roll your eyes. You really don’t want to get into this right now. But you text your roommate back and say yes, that’s all true.
he asked me to pick you up from the train station, he said you’re arriving at 11 or so, I’ll meet you there
You immediately respond saying that isn’t necessary.
y/n, he said you’ve been drinking…. he’s worried about you getting home by yourself
The second you read that, the tears start to fall. You hate him so much. How could he have no reaction to your confession, but still worry about you like this? It doesn’t make any sense.
You respond and tell your roommate you’ll be there soon.
As the train pulls out of the station, you rest your head on the window and close your eyes. This train ride is so much different than the one this morning. You honestly wish you hadn’t said anything at all. Now you’ve probably lost your best friend forever.
===
Three days go by without hearing anything from Hongseok. At this point, you don’t know what there is to say. You spent a long time wondering if you should be the first to reach out, but you’ve said all you need to. If you’ve ruined your friendship by telling him your feelings, then that’s on you.
You really don’t want to make things any harder for him. You knew he was trying to get on the show, so you really shouldn’t have said anything to begin with. You hope he still makes the right choice for him, regardless of you confessing.
On Saturday afternoon, the doorbell rings. You expect it to be one of your roommates, as they tend to forget their keys often. When you open the door and see Hongseok, you’re stunned.
“Hi y/n,” he says, smiling. Seeing his face makes you want to smile too, but you can’t, considering all you’ve been thinking about these past few days.
“Hi,” you reply. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t say sorry,” he laughs. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“Why are you here?”
“I came to say sorry.” You frown. “I was thrown off guard so my reaction may have come off the wrong way, and I’m sorry for that.”
“What do you mean the wrong way?” Now Hongseok looks nervous.
“How did you feel?” He asks you. “When you told me you’d take a different train, why did you say that?”
“You were rejecting me,” you say. “I didn’t want to sit in a train with you for 30 minutes trying not to cry.”
“You cried?” Hongseok looks like he’s about to cry himself, just hearing that. “I’m so sorry y/n.”
“It’s fine,” you tell him, shaking your head.
“I withdrew my application.”
“You did what?” You’re shocked.
“I called the producers and told them I wasn’t interested anymore.”
“I hope this isn’t because of me,” you say.
“Of course it’s because of you.”
Hongseok’s looking at you that way again, the same way he did downtown, right before his interview. Maybe he wasn’t rejecting you after all. You suddenly feel really nervous.
“I did some thinking,” he explains. “I did want to be on the show, but it was obviously for all the wrong reasons.” You smile at that.
“So you changed your mind?” He nods.
“I want to stay here, and be with you.” That makes your heart rate jump.
“For the right reasons?” You ask, jokingly.
“Yeah, I’m sorry I didn’t realize it sooner,” he replies. “y/n, I love you too.”
You practically throw yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. His arms are tight around your waist as he hugs you back.
“What if I had changed my mind?” You ask, pulling away a little bit. His arms are still around you.
“I knew you wouldn’t,” he rolls his eyes. “And I have a surprise for you, so that would’ve won you back.”
“A surprise?” Hongseok smiles, letting go of you. There’s a small paper bag sitting outside your front door, to the side, that you hadn’t noticed before. He grabs it, and pulls out your favourite cold drink.
“Here you are.” You say thanks and take a sip. “I have food as well, I was thinking we could go to the park.”
“The swings?”
“The way your eyes just lit up is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.” You roll your eyes at that. “But yes, the swings would be great.”
“Let me grab my things,” you tell him, stepping back into your apartment to get your phone and keys.
“This is going to be such a fun first date,” Hongseok says, as you lock the door.
“Date?” Technically, you knew that’s what this is, but it’s still shocking to hear him say it out loud.
“Yes… If that’s okay.”
“You didn’t bring me a date card though.” Hongseok laughs at that.
“This isn’t Bachelor in Paradise!”
“Well, no, but a card still would have been nice,” you say jokingly. The two of you walk down the hall to the elevator.
“Next time.” You nod in agreement. “Can I offer you a kiss instead?”
“I’m sorry what-” Before you can say anything else, Hongseok takes your hand and plants a kiss on the back of it. “Oh.”
“What did you think I meant, y/n?” He asks, a smirk on his face.
“Don’t worry about it.” The two of you step into the elevator and he pushes the button for the bottom floor.
“As your boyfriend, it’s my duty to worry about you.”
“Boyfriend?” You mean to tease him, but you’re more soft than anything. The word sounds so nice to say.
“Well yeah,” Hongseok says. “You love me, I love you, it only makes sense.”
“You should say that more often,” you tell him, as the elevator stops. He follows you as you step out.
“What?” He asks. “That I love you?” You can’t help but blush.
“Yeah,” you reply, absolutely smitten.
As Hongseok opens the door, and you step out into the warm air, he wraps an arm around your shoulders.
“I won’t let you forget it.”

“I’m not the bad one here”: Muu Analysis and Interpretation
Tumblr media
here is my personal muu analysis and interpretation. i'm really wondering: does muu really believe herself to be justified? is this a front she's presenting because her apologies remained unheard to the bitter end? is she really vindictive and somewhat indifferent deep down, or is she really pretending to protect herself? somewhat a bit of both? this is what i'll be trying to answer. i'm going to be using : - her official character intro in the character intros MV - her intro voice lines (from the official website) - her interview questions - her drama CD content basically every piece of muu extra content we've got, aside from minimal interactions from the app. AS WELL AS - her MV, After Pain, which i'm going to be deciphering based on the color coding! i don't think anyone has done this in full yet (if anyone did, i apologize)
(general TW for discussions & depiction of severe bullying)
as a general disclaimer,
i'm not going to reiterate points that have already been made. if you've looked at youtube comments of previously made analysis, it should be enough to determine what's going on. i'm interested in exploring why muu may feel justified in her actions and what the "darker" side of her is, is all.
there have been no hints as to the fact that she was a bully in the past or something. it could still come out that she was, or that her behavior was awful in whatever way (which i really wouldn't like bcse it reinforces the notion that bullied people "have to had deserved it" which is gross) and it still WOULD NOT change my opinion of her bcse she's still been through all that and pushed to the limit. at the end of the day, there's no way she lied about or downplayed this. she WAS horribly bullied and she almost died from it.
muu has her flaws, clearly. i'm just pointing out what they are here, her mentality and how it might allude to her being shown in a less sympathetic light next round, but that's it.
first, where does the "muu feeling justified" even come from?
to begin with, it's been stated in her intro "she can have a attitude at some times." it's also confirmed by the insults on the blackboard, transcribed in eng and edited onto the MV's visuals here (TW suicide baiting, self-harm baiting).
"So arrogant" as well as "are you looking down on us?" are written on the first blackboard, "eww poor people" on the second.
in her drama CD, muu also appears to be :
overly blunt at times
spoiled. used to being treated well, since she's rich
quite manipulative, even if she's straightforward about it
i suggest u read the whole thing to get a sense of what she's like, if you haven't yet!
once again and at the risk of repeating myself... she still doesn't deserve any of what happened even if she was condescending or flaunted her wealth. which i don't even think might be the case (it's not like the bullies are objective, they're just using it as a way to justify their treatment of her. and in the MV she says herself "There's no special meaning / I just got the short end of the stick"). she's kind of naive about her wealth (see the crepe incident dfdghjd) she doesn't appear to do it to annoy others or look down on them. she's just used to a life of comfort.
moreover, it's been implied she may have been taken advantage of initially because of her wealth (see the chat on her phone and the picture of her with the three other girls, which i'll call Girl A, Girl B and Girl C for convenience's sake and also bcse the ref to dr is funny). probably her bluntness and occasional attitude caused her more problems, but i'll come back to what triggered the bullying later.
regarding her manipulative behavior, it's because she's used to getting her way (crepe incident, her telling Es she'll just make him like her : "All I have to do is gain your favour, right?"). "my sorry spells must be wearing off" in After Pain alludes to this. since she was previously quite privileged, she had never been treated like this before. even when she made mistakes she was forgiven, so she may have been a bit of an entitled brat, once again. when she starts being bullied, her world REALLY turns upside down. she's so used to getting her way that she even THREATENS Es at the end of the drama CD. we're past manipulative here. no way to know if she has done this in the past though. this might just be due to her desperation, really, but the fact that she does it right after another attempt at sweet talk does make me raise a brow
Tumblr media
also the way she turns the tables on Es. "i won't forgive you" when she's supposed to be the one who's forgiven or not? she's rejecting the fault onto Es, just like, ALL the way through her drama CD, she's been saying she wasn't in the wrong. that's her way of justifying herself when/if she causes harm. literally she will not stop saying it :
"I’m not the bad one here!" "I did kill them. But, they’re to blame! They made it to the point where I had to kill them… I… I had such a tough time." "Sure, I might’ve killed them, but… If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have been able to escape. The cruel things they did to me were far worse!" "If you’re gonna say that I shouldn’t have killed them, then… Are you saying that I should’ve continued suffering forever?" "Even though I’m not the one in the wrong, they want to sentence me to penal servitude… That’s so messed-up." "It wasn’t a bad thing to do, right?" "What should I do then? What should I do in order for you to forgive me, prison guard? I’ll do anything! Um… Anything painful or embarrassing is out of the question though… And, I don’t wanna do anything scary either…"
muu is DESPERATE to be proven innocent. she'll do almost anything, though she's reluctant to put herself in any situation that might be triggering for her (understandable after what she's been through so i wouldn't say she's whining here.) in one of her intro voice lines on the website she says pretty much the same thing:
That’s right. I killed someone. But I couldn’t help it! If I didn’t, there’d be no way to escape. I’m… not the bad one.
in addition, here is what we get from her intro in the character intros MV:
"Fufu... it's your fault for doing horrible things to me." → Lack of remorse ?
from her interview questions:
"The person who did something wrong should apologize first." → Waiting for others to acknowledge their faults first, bcse she doesn't want her apologies to be ignored again... and to just be mistreated again, as a result?
maybe she wants to be declared innocent so that she can finally feel like she's heard, acknowledged. so that she can feel that her pain has reached people, and she might start apologizing outwardly then too, bcse part of her's sorry. but a part of her genuinely believes she had no other choice and as such should be treated as innocent. it's kind of a complex mentality.
what i'm focusing on is that she has this belief she is justified still.
something caught my eyes in relation to that : the "thinks she's the hero" on the second blackboard. muu has a self-righteous side like futa, even if it were (partially?) a front.
also, the quote behind every inmate : "every saint has a past and every sinner has a future." muu "saved" herself by killing someone else and now has a future, so she's her own hero? perhaps. perhaps that's what is helping her cope with the crushing guilt, and that's why she's outwardly so insistent on it.
but then again, something doesn't click: why would muu be saved from killing someone? the bullying has just gotten worse. why does she seem so relieved in that situation? is it because people at least don't touch her now, because they're scared of her? she is literally getting suicide baited though... well, i have an idea. but first let's decode After Pain properly.
more substance to her feeling justified: the color coding and hidden messages in After Pain
so, here goes. on the official site, people who got the innocent verdict are shown to have green eyes, while people who got the guilty verdict have red eyes. so from this, we can deduce that innocent = green and guilty = red.
Tumblr media
well... muu's MV is coded like that all the way through. we have a theme of greens (cold colors) VS oranges (warm colors). to represent her thoughts in relation to her actions, and others'. they’re complementary colors, so it’s rather clear cut (black and white?) the color that's inbetween is the yellow from the screen with the handwriting writing that keeps coming back as well as... yup... the yellow from the box cutter she used to kill Girl A, her crush (presumably). and the yellow that is muu's character color! so very significant. i'll analyse After Pain sequence by sequence so u can see what i mean in detail. beginning of the MV : she's sitting in the classroom alone. the first thing we see is the green hourglass = i'm innocent! and we see the orange glow of the sunset. the light isn't hitting her directly, as u can see: she's left in the shadows = blameless, the victim here. it's hitting the blackboard with all the insults, however.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
together with the lyrics this scene is basically everything about muu screaming "SEE? IT'S THEIR FAULT, LOOK WHAT THEY DID. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING." and then of course we have the first instance of the screen with writing in yellow! this one says "ねえなんで" ("say, why?") nothing surprising there so far.
Tumblr media
then BOOM the hourglass. very very clearly depicting her pain, her suffocating and being cut from the world. and thus proving her "innocence" bcse she's trapped, in danger of choking, and helpless.
Tumblr media
it of course covers her (more of her basically telling you she's innocent). and then it cuts to a pinker, more orange-y scene with the bullies (they're guilty!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and WAIT A MINUTE? WHAT IS THAT? yep... the box cutter. and what color is it in this scene? orange. it was orange here.
Tumblr media
clearly she's saying that the others are much more at fault here. when she wields it, the box cutter is of a lighter color--still a warm color, since it's yellow. but a yellow that's very close to the lime green of her hourglass, isn't it? for now let's say it represents something in between, ambivalent feelings. the writing in yellow comes back and so does the chorus (look at how much i tried to apologize and make them stop). it feels to me like that's muu taking back the mic like HEY, listen up, you saw this right. in conclusion. here it is again: look at how innocent i am! look at how much i've suffered! and thus naturally it cuts to a hourglass scene immediately after.
nonetheless, the writing in yellow says... "でもたぶん" ("but maybe...") which is intriguing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
haven't mentioned this before but obviously muu herself is a mix of warm and cold colors, aka pink (her uniforms highlights, the sleeves and tie + her hair) and green (her eyes, with a highlight of lime/yellow...) then we're back in the classroom and once again the orange light = guilt isn't hitting her directly.
Tumblr media
and the colors picked in the LINE chat with the others areee.... naturally, green for her, pink for the others... yellow for the whole background, just as yellow encompasses the entire MV as her true feelings on the matter.
Tumblr media
title screen in yellow then flashes yet again, followed AGAIN by the hourglass scene (muu repeating, just like in her drama CD: "yeah, here's my whole story, and i'm innocent!")
the writing in yellow says "ねえもしも" ("hey, tell me...")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the writing in yellow flashes for the FOURTH TIME and this is the most interesting instance: "それなのに" ("even so...")
Tumblr media
this shot is doused in orange/warmer yellow on the bullies' side and in the background too. super self-explanatory really
Tumblr media
the orange light of guilty is still not hitting muu. meanwhile on her lap...
Tumblr media
on the left, the bullies' stockings are blue, but they have a orange hue to them. the rest of the objects here in cold tones are all related to muu or touching her. the picture on her phone is split between yellow and blue. like the blame and innocence was, back then, even/balanced in the sense of peace and quiet, or perhaps just hidden in the background before it jumped out?
Tumblr media
she's hit by the orange light here and please look at how the bucket is not blue at all and the floor below her is more yellow. Girl A is the one to open the door, so i think this might show Girl A's POV in relation to muu. not perceiving her innocence.
Tumblr media
Girl A's eyes here are green and yellow, so to some extent innocent but guilty in a way that is justified in muu's mind? which is why muu reaches out to her. thus here's my theory on what happened with her : muu confessed, yes. however, the girl didn't out her. especially bcse the blackboard doesn't have any mention of muu liking girls (going by the TL previously shared at least). she just started avoiding muu. given the lyrics here: Girl A used muu's attitude concerning other matters as justification for avoiding her, which kickstarted the bullying. hence "the stabbing of the little devil's voice" which references something Girl A said about her attitude, prompting the rest of their friend group to see muu in a negative light so as to side with her. (since muu's planned counterattack to what Girl A said is a suicide note, it can only be Girl A that's the "devil". the cause.)
also please note how the light is only HALF hitting the background. she's to blame, but not entirely. not yet. besides her eyes are a different shade of green than muu's: darker, far from lime. clearly just green + yellow highlight, without the blatant "innocent" of the lighter lime. entirely ambivalent!
Tumblr media
in this shot, the light is deserting muu's eyes. no lime green or yellow here. she just has dead eyes, resembling Girl A's eyes at the end of the video. this is muu telling us that this was her last chance not to become a corpse.
Tumblr media
then muu reaches out to the one person she could ask for help. the one person who could have cleared any misunderstanding and possibly stopped this. she's running and everything is soooo yellow and orange. EXCEPT for the bushes which are green, a firm line (literal lines!) that allude to the possibility that Girl A might change her behavior. "perhaps she'll realized she crossed the line/know where the line is and walk off this path."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
however, muu steps into the light here. she's been hit by the window's light even if we can't see it, as seen by her shadow. hence, she's already guilty, it's just out of frame (she doesn't realize/know it yet.) still, note that the light hitting her is not orange but ONLY YELLOW. less guilty than the others! but the school? orange. guilty place. guilty people
Tumblr media
Girl A is still framed by green stuff. she has a possibility of being innocent, of being forgiven by muu, but the path she's walking is orange, clearly.
Tumblr media
we see a tiny hourglass fall off, a timid reminder from muu "i know what you're about to see, just remember i'm not to blame." and then muu reaches Girl A and the background is just SO yellow and orange for the both of them. but notice something? on muu's side the background is more yellow. on Girl A's side it gets darker, more orange.
Tumblr media
Girl A doesn't respond for a moment and her eyes are still green and yellow! muu has hope that she might still change for the better and forgive her! see that muu's innocent!
Tumblr media
but nope! she rejects muu! and we get this deep orange!!! NOTHING like the yellow in the background earlier! this is the last straw for muu!
Tumblr media
contrasting with the green of muu's hourglass breaking as she hits her limit:
Tumblr media
yellow, vengeful fire burning next to muu. it's practically shimmering as she stabs Girl A. it's so light it's almost white.
Tumblr media
Girl A's eyes have turned orange bcse in that moment in muu's mind SHE is the guilty one. she deserves this.
Tumblr media
while in contrast, even if the background behind muu's very orange... her eyes are glowing lime/yellow.
Tumblr media
i hit picture limit so this is part 1! (reblogging this to add more. here is the full post with part 2 as well)

outtakes [1]
Xiao sits there in stunned silence before he speaks.
“I can’t believe someone wants to make a movie out of your webnovels."
“Excuse you! I'll have you know that my novels are extremely popular. They’ve got a very devoted fanbase that’s still growing.”
“They’re just not popular here,” Chongyun says, ducking when Xingqiu swats at the back of his head. “I’m just telling the truth. It’s a very saturated market, A-Qiu. Everyone writes martial arts novels. I could stop anyone on the street and ask them what xianxia or wuxia novel they’ve got open on their phone right now and they could describe the plot to me and I’d mistake it for ten other titles and still not be exactly wrong.”
“Mine are a cut above the rest and you know it. Anyway. We aren’t here to discuss the merits of my novel. Those are already clear by the fact that it’s so popular that Inazuma wants to make a movie out of one of them. At that stage even if I was willing to consider that my novels were, at best, average before I would be forced to reconsider that outlook. It’s just about a done deal. And thankfully they’ve given me oversight on the script adaptation and they wanted to confirm details of certain scenes. That’s where you come in Xiao-ge.”
“Wrong.”
Xingqiu raps his knuckles on the table between them. “Come on. Your dear to your heart shidi is asking you for help.”
“Who’s shidi?” Xiao raises an eyebrow, arms crossing over his chest as he leans back in his chair.
“You had to be at least a little curious why Xingqiu called you out,” Chongyun says. “I mean. He asked for your help and you showed up, didn’t you?”
“I had free time and I was curious.” Xiao pauses. “Also one of you texted Ganyu and she commented about it in the group chat with Shifu and shushu. If I didn’t show up I’d never hear the end of it.”
“Ganyu-jie to the rescue. I told you that you should have just asked Ganyu about it first,” Chongyun says to Xingqiu.
“Forgive me for thinking that I should attempt being straightforward.” Xingqiu rolls his eyes, brushing part of his fringe out of his face. “But listen. I really do need your help.”
“I’m not a stuntman.”
“I know! But if you could help me choreograph some of the fights, and maybe oversee some of the practices to make sure they’re done right it would be a real big help.”
Xiao points at Xingqiu and then at Chongyun. “You are both martial artists. As I recall the Guhua school’s main styles are ‘light piercer’ and ‘rain cutter’.”
“How boring of a movie would it be if everyone used Guhua arts? It's fine when it’s on paper because it’s up to the reader to imagine what things look like. They can be picturing all sorts of things happening — crane or mantis, maybe even horse style fighting. But on screen it’ll be obvious! And it doesn’t make sense.” Xingqiu leans forward. “And if it’s just Guhua school arts it will be so dull.”
“There are two of you."
“A movie with two fighting styles? They might as well just film me and Chongyun sparring and send that to the box office to tank. Come on, Xiao-ge. You know more types of fighting styles than both of us — even ignoring work with pole arms.”
Xiao sighs, pressing his knuckles to his forehead as though he could bully away the headache.
“You should ask Shifu. I learned most of it from him. I’m sure he could help. Besides, I also have a job. I can’t just take off for Inazuma for a week or two. The Goldets are understanding people. I do not want to take advantage.”
“Please, they love you.” Xingqiu waves his hand. “They’ll bend over backwards to keep you. Did you know that their reviews have steadily been going up since you became the night guard? And almost all the comments on about them are about how safe and reliable it is there.”
“That’s — “ Xiao sighs. “No. The answer is still no.”
“I’ll pay you.”
Xiao jolts, eyes narrowing at Xingqiu. “No!”
“Just name a figure!”
“I can’t.” Xiao turns a little pink. “I’m not allowed to take money for my martial arts. Shifu made Ganyu and me swear never to trade our martial arts skills for mora when he began teaching us.”
“Huh,” Chongyun blinks, turning to Xingqiu. “You should work that into one of your next novels.” He looks back to Xiao. “Wait. What about all the competitions and the prize money you won?”
Xiao doesn’t exactly squirm in his seat, but he gives the impression of wanting to. Xiao props his elbow up on the table, turning his face into his hand and looking off to the side.
“Shifu had us pick a charity to donate it to,” Xiao mumbles. “I think Ganyu still gets letters from one of the wildlife preservation ones she used to pick out a lot.”
“I have so many questions,” Chongyun says, sounding awestruck. “But I know that if I ask them we’ll never get back to Xingqiu.”
“Be strong and hold them in for me to ask at a later date.” Xingqiu shakes Chongyun’s arm. “Alright. No money. Could you just — alright. How about this. Can you and Chongyun go through some scenes for me and let me film it? There’s going to be a stunt director and a choreographer. I can show the video to them and see if they can work with it.”
“It’s Inazuma,” Xiao replies. “What would they know?”
“Don’t look down on them just because they’re from Inazuma,” Xingqiu chides, “Master martial artists are everywhere.”
“No. I mean — why bother using multiple Liyue style martial arts when you’re filming in Inazuma where most people wouldn’t be able to notice some of the more subtle differences?”
“You’re thinking very small, Xiao-ge. Sure it’s being filmed in Inazuma. But it’s a movie. You think people from Liyue aren’t going to be streaming illegal uploads of this? I’m telling you. I’m a very popular novelist.”
“You know, the more you say it to try and convince people that you’re popular the more it sounds like you aren’t.” Chongyun suffers through the sharp jab Xingqiu aims at his ribs, holding still so he doesn’t accidentally spill his drink.
“Who’s side are you on?” Xingqiu hisses.
“Yours, probably.” Then he grins at Xiao. “Dage want to join the ‘Victims of Xingqiu Alliance’? So far it’s me, his brother, Keqing, and Xinyan.”
Xingqiu raises his hands, rolling his eyes towards the ceiling. “I am being conspired against.”

[Chapter1]
-
It had been early morning the next day that Jerry had send Nines more information. Apparently, their theory of their suspects meeting in the medieval part of the park had been correct. Jerry had reported several people arriving at the park, all of them masked but otherwise disregarding the cameras completely. Due to the park being abandoned, no one cared about them and Jerry kept them stationary. That was enough for Nines and Gavin to head out. If they wanted to prepare anything they had to do so now, not when everything was in place. They had informed Hank of their plan, who told them that backup would be ready and in place on their signal if they needed it.
Now they were walking through the trees on the edge of the areal until they got to the fence. Nines had taken a wire-cutter with him, although he didn’t need it in the end. The fence had been trampled to the ground and didn’t really pose as a barrier anymore. Nines left the tool behind a tree and followed Gavin onto the park grounds. They soon found one of the paths connecting different rides and shops. All buildings were designed to look like castles or village huts, and everything was heavily overgrown. Gavin kept him back as he was about to walk onto the path to look around for any sign of humans. ‘Hey, Nines, look over there.’ Nines followed his finger to discover a huge castle that for once actually looked to not be covered in mock-up stone. ‘If I knew one thing about Jayden, it is that he likes to be overly dramatic. Every chance to pretend to be a Rockstar he would take. I bet he would choose the biggest phcking building there is.’ ‘Well, it’s worth a shot. We have four more hours until the data is lost.’
They kept behind the buildings walking towards the castle that was at least four stories high. The next time they had to stop it was Nines who kept Gavin back. >Three persons at the crossroad, he displayed on his hand, pointing into the direction of them as soon as Gavin had read it and deactivated the screen. He listened intently to them talking, hoping to get some more intel. At the same time, he displayed what he heard for Gavin.
‘Why did he have to come so soon, I don’t understand. I mean… this place is creepy man.’ ‘Idiot, he is checking for traps. Ever since he fucked that Detective, he is paranoid as hell.’ ‘Doesn’t mean we have to be here, too.’ ‘You are getting paid for it, stop complaining.’ ‘Exactly. Easy money for patrolling an abandoned park. Besides who the hell knows of it anyway? Just a day spent outside going for a walk.’ ‘Still can’t wait until they are done in there.’
Gavin plucked at his sleeve grinning triumphantly. Okay, so maybe he had been right with the castle, it wasn’t as if Nines had been doubting him. He just shrugged and gestured him to follow. They snuck up to the entrance of the castle, a sign with flaking colour telling them this had been a haunted castle once stuffed with the newest robotic technologies. Nines looked up at it frowning, but in the end, they weren’t here for the attraction itself, but for the data Browns would sell here. Gavin pulled him to an employee’s entrance that led into the foyer. Apparently, the visitors had only been allowed inside in small groups at a time. Inside, Nines took over, leading Gavin through the hidden tunnels for the staff. There were enough hidden windows and maintenance doors that they could spy into the adjacent rooms in relative safety. They traversed nearly the complete first floor, until they got to the “throne room”. In sudden excitement, Gavin slapped his side, pulling him over to the one-way-mirror. ‘That’s the asshole’, Gavin hissed quietly, and Nines proceeded to scan him. Gavin was right. There was Jayden Browns, walking around the table, looking underneath it and inspecting the whole room.  Nines took the throne room in, comparing it to his blueprints. ‘Gavin, I need you to hide over there’, he whispered pointing to a little hidden hatch in the wall that would without a doubt be connected to some character appearing during the performance to scare the visitors. ‘Are you kidding me?’, Gavin hissed. ‘No way I will fit in there!’ Nines just smiled at him. ‘Oh, you will fit just fine, trust me.’ ‘Urgh, fine.’ ‘And here I thought it would be a disadvantage that you were so short, detective!’ ‘Phck you. Why there?’ ‘This room has two escape routes. One towards the entrance and one that leads to the rest of the tour. We need people at both sides to intercept him when surprising him.’ Gavin nodded. ‘Anything else?’ ‘Wait for my signal.’
He sighed, before turning and following the maintenance tunnel to the hatch. He pulled up the cover and was greeted with a small compartment housing what looked like it had once been a ghost puppet and a ton of spiderwebs. Gavin whined, hesitating to climb in there, but looking at his watch to see whether he had enough time to find a better spot he realised, it was nearly seven pm. He grimaced, before lowering himself inside and crawling over the puppet to the front. Thankfully, not one of the spiderwebs were still in use. At least Gavin told himself that. He crawled to the forefront of the compartment, laying his head on the floor to spy through the slit into the room behind it. He looked for Nines but couldn’t see the android anywhere. But he trusted that he saw him when the time was right. Now it was time to wait.
He had always hated waiting, but at least this time it wasn’t too long. Apparently whoever Jayden wanted to sell the data to surprised him. ‘You are early’, his voice suddenly broke the silence and Gavin flinched. God, he had forgotten how much he hated that guy. ‘Do you have the stick?’ ‘Right here. Do you have the money?’ ‘How do I know it works?’
Gavin tried to get a good look at the other man that spoke but found himself distracted by a movement at the corner of his eye. A spider, steadily crawling towards him. He blew the little creature further away from him, but as soon as it had regained its footing it crawled towards him again. Gavin focussed the two men talking again, side-eyeing the spider and pushing it back again and again. Shocked he found that he had gained some attention by sending a small dust cloud out under the hatch. He froze, watching how the shoes of the second man had turned towards him. But a moment later the man changed his stance as he disregarded it. Gavin sighed in relief, only to feel something crawling over his hand. He couldn’t explain his reaction properly except with the utterly idiotic instinct to get away from the tiny creature, screaming and wriggling himself out of that compartment without thinking about it.
That was how he found himself standing in the throne room being stared at by the two people, Jayden with his hand outstretched, a phone in hand for the other one to see. Reacting immediately, he pulled out his gun and shouted ‘DPD, freeze, the park is surrounded. Hands up where I can see them!’
But despite his quick call, they didn’t freeze at all, instead doing the exact opposite: They drew their guns, Jayden shouting for his men before shooting at him. He was ready to regret his fear of spiders dearly, but the bullet never reached him, Nines jumping in the path out of nowhere. The android saw the oncoming goons, the two guns ready for another shot and decided they wouldn’t be able to stop them alone. He took Gavin by the jacket and pulled him with him, only for the stubborn Detective to dive to the ground, where Jayden had let his phone fall. Nines allowed it, helping him back to his feet and sprinting towards the exit Gavin had been supposed to guard.
‘What was that supposed to be?’, Nines shouted as they left through it, running for their lives. ‘I’m sorry!’, Gavin gasped. ‘Phcking spiders!’ ‘Doesn’t matter now, run! I’ll call in Hank and his backup waiting outside.’ They ran up the stairs to the second floor and Nines was almost carrying Gavin the way he hauled him up to help catch up with his bigger steps. They ran past animatronic knights and witches, ghosts and undead kings, all hanging in their more or less intact machinery, until they reached a larger room that looked like some sort of medieval bedroom. Nines milled over their options, deciding quickly to pull open a large wardrobe and pushing first Gavin then himself inside, closing it just in time not to be seen by the goons storming inside. ‘God damn, just move your- OW! Quit stomping on my feet already!’, Gavin complained, before Nines could push his hand over his mouth. Because unfortunately, the men had decided to search the room instead of running past them.
‘What do we do know?’, Gavin asked and Nines just grinned. ‘This is a haunted castle. Let’s scare them a bit and cause a distraction. The android pulled off a panel on the back wall of the wardrobe and interfacing with the touchscreen behind it. Only a few seconds later music started playing tinny and distorted. Then a voice from a woman coming from the bed. It sounded like she was reading a bedtime story. ‘Today, like every other day, the unicorns are running free. But it wasn’t always like that-‘ ‘Oh, come on, skip to the good part’, Nines mumbled, followed by metallic screeching and what sounded like plastic being crushed. ‘Oops.’ ‘What did you do, Nines?’, Gavin asked slightly panicked. ‘I set the program to ten times the normal speed, but apparently it wasn’t made for that. We might get a bit more chaos than I wanted…’ ‘What do you mean by tha-‘ ‘Out, now!’
Nines pulled him outside just at the right moment. A second later and a large plastic gargoyle from the opposite window would have crushed them, being flung inside by a robotic arm that had never been supposed to withstand such momentum. The whole room was in chaos. The robot mother that had read the bedtime story was up in flames and screeching, the princess was shaking inside the bed, sitting up and falling back down repeatedly. The walls crumbled and rebuild themselves while a cacophony of at least three songs playing at once rung in their ears. As doors on the opposite side banged open for a dragon’s head to emerge and roar, Nines knew that they wouldn’t be able to continue this route. ‘Nines, you are right! This is too much chaos!’ At least the goons were distracted. Distracted by running down as fast as they could, as the fire from the robot mother began to spread. ‘Phck, Nines, where do we go?’ The android seemed lost himself, but caught himself, running to a window and leaning outside. Gavin, realising what Nines was thinking about, took a step back. ‘Oh no, Nines, not happening. You are insane! I’m not phcking jumping out of-’ But the android had taken him by the arm already, running full speed at the window and taking Gavin with him. They fell from the second floor and down towards a decorative moat. There was no bracing the impact, only the cold water suddenly encasing them. Gavin briefly panicked, as he tried to swim to the surface but having Nines still clinging to him and pulling him down. Thankfully it wasn’t that deep, and he quickly realised what Nines was planning, as they reached the bottom and the android near catapulted them out with one powerful kick. They emerged near the shore and climbed up the muddy hill to the trees again. They looked back up to the burning fake castle and Gavin pulled algae from his shoulder before swiping at his eyes.
‘Well, not how I expected the day to end, but not many can say they burned down an amusement park?’ He chuckled and Nines couldn’t help but smile at the sentiment. ‘Let’s just hope Hank caught our suspects.’

the Fallout 4 pokemon au no one asked for.
I asked one (1) person if this was wanted and they said yes. So, here is a 17 page list of the Fo4 companions as gymleaders and Elite 4.
for followup on type choices, here ya go
edit// as i view this more ill probably make changes/adjustments
Warning- This post is 17 pages long in Google Docs. This is not a simple snack, it’s a Golden Coral buffet. For the love of Arceus dont open if you’re on mobile. Your phone will melt.
GYM LEADERS
SANCTUARY
Codsworth: Beats doing housework!
A Mister Handy that’s kept Sanctuary from collapsing for 200 years, Codsy is a gentleman through and through. His old owner supposedly dead, he’s still keeping the house spick and span. While tending to the Carrot Flowers, two little creatures wandered up to him, and the metal butler was smitten. Scavengers who come to pick through the ruins are met with a robot who is very insistent on not letting people steal from his neighbors, dead or not. After word got out to avoid Sanctuary if you didn’t want your Pokemon to faint, people started coming in droves to meet the challenge. “It’s just a robot, how bad could it be?” Answer: Quite bad. He doesn’t really have a Gym, but the Elite 4 noticed him enough to make him a Leader. His Badge is the Rust Badge, and he gives out TM61, Will-o-wisp.

DIAMOND CITY
Piper Wright: Can’t stop the Press!
Piper is a part-time gym-leader, part-time reporter, and full time sister. With her hectic schedule, her composed Grass types help her errands and keeping her sane. Piper’s paper, Publick Occurrences, used to be about news and advice for Trainers, but lately it’s been mostly accusing the city’s mayor of consorting with the shadowy Institute, known for stealing Pokemon and kidnapping people. Because of this, Mayor McDonough is constantly threatening to take Piper’s Gym (and Pokemon) away. She’s been arrested multiple times for disturbing the peace and causing fights among the citizens of Diamond City, no matter how hard her team tries to stop her. If you can withstand her onslaught of status moves, she gives you the Paper Badge and TM86, Grass Knot.

TRINITY TOWER
Strong: Strong is Strong.
Trinity Tower was a ruin after the war; but recently, Fighting-Type Trainers have made the place a Dojo, training themselves and their Pokemon with discipline and restraint. The Gym Leader doesn’t do any of this. Strong uses absolute brute force to decimate his foes and underlings. Strong came to Trinity Tower because he heard that Fighting-Types were strong against Normal-Types. After wiping the floor with the trainers, he demolished the previous Leader to the point the man went off the grid in embarrassment. Even though his underlings’ favoured Pokemon counter his own, his ferocity and mercilessness lets his Normal-Type Pokemon stand victorious. If you can fight his brawn with brain, he gives you the Berzerk Badge, along with TM64, Explosion, which he is so very sad his Pokemon can’t use.

THE COMBAT ZONE
Cait: The Irish Cage Fighter!
The Combat Zone was once a theater, before the war. After the bombs dropped, it was turned into a fighting ring. It had actually decent customers and audiences, until raiders took over. But, throughout it all (excluding before the war), Cait was the star of the show. She beats her opponents down and down and down, whether with her fists or her Pokemons’. She used to be the 5th leader, but after the raiders took over, her mental health went on a rapid decline and consequently, so did her battle ability. Now, she’s far better at beating someone’s face in with a bat than she is with Pokemon. Her Pokemon are very strong, but she just can’t use their power to her advantage anymore. Her badge is the Trigger Rush badge, and she gives you TM08, Bulk Up. Also - your biggest threat isn’t her Machamp. That Stufful will destroy you, your team, and your will to live.

GOODNEIGHBOR
Hancock: Of the People, For the People!
As the Mayor of GoodNeighbor, John Hancock doesn’t want to waste time and resources for an actual Gym. To challenge him, simply walk up and ask for a battle. Since Hancock is the Mayor, he doesn’t have a lot of time to spend battling, so he fights only a select few of his challengers. First, they have to get in good with his town. If the challenger doesn’t follow the rules of GoodNeighbor and disrespects anyone in his town, they’re not getting a battle. Second, they have to get a reputation as a strong trainer. Hancock doesn’t like wasting his time with overconfident people who more bark than bite, and he doesn’t like crushing dreams of younger trainers who just want to prove themselves. If you can somehow defeat his beloved Scizor, he gives you the Isotope Badge, along with TM28, Leech Life.

LOCATION UNKNOWN
No one knows.
The Sixth Leader is almost impossible to find. It changes daily. No one has ever fought the same Gym leader. Also, there’s no set gym. The Gym Leader will either be always on the move, or in a undisclosed, forgotten ruin that no one can find. They always have the same Pokemon and sunglasses, however, so some suspect it’s the same person being a jerk. The League claims that the leader hasn’t changed in years, and that the badge is authorized, but since no one can find the Leader, the badge isn’t necessary to fight the league. Apparently, the badge is the Cloak & Dagger badge, and the assigned Technical Machine is TM99, Dazzling Gleam.

CAMBRIDGE
X6-88: Pokemon Redefined.
Who is the strange man that appeared out of nowhere to take over when the last Gym Leader moved? No one seems to know. The most heartless of both the Gym leaders and the Elite 4, he has no mercy for his challengers, and little respect for his underlings. As much as he appears to hate pretty much everyone, he strangely seems to like the 8th Gym Leader, who hates him. Despite how ruthless he is with training and work, and how hard he pushes people to push their Pokemon, he has been seen using baby-talk with his own. His Pokemon are wickedly strong, but if you can melt them down, you win the Harmonic badge, with TM79, Frost Breath. Also, he’ll be your  #1 fan.

Danse: Shock and awe!
Danse’s old Gym was at the Cambridge Police Station, and then the Brotherhood Prydwen when it showed up. His battle tactics got the attention of the League, and they basically harassed him to accept. He only did because being a Gym Leader gives him and his Pokemon plenty of exercise and training. The supplies given as a ‘welcome’ gift from the E4 and the good rep he was getting for the Brotherhood didn’t hurt either. However, something happened within the Brotherhood, and Danse was kicked out. He’s still a Gym Leader, despite the protest of one of the Elite 4, and he now shares Sanctuary with Codsy. He has a shiny Skitty named Cupcake. His badge is the Authority Badge, and he gives you TM91, Flash Cannon. After being exiled, his mental health, much like Cait, has gone with the wind. Not only is he too mentally out of it to perform the best he can, his Pokemon are also thrown out of the loop, and are worried to death over him. He’s not nearly as powerful as he was a month ago.

ELITE 4
Curie: Though dangerous, battle is quite vigorous exercise!
Everyone in the League agrees: Curie is an absolute angel, too good for the Commonwealth. As an Elite 4 member, though, she’s the most hellish devil from the darkest pit of...hell. An avid lover of poison types, and prodigal with potions and status healers, Curie doesn’t fight offensively, but defensively, planning out her strategy to outlast her opponents until the poisons and confusion does the damage for her. Honestly, she only uses poison types because studying them helps her find cures and medicines, which she gladly shares with anyone. After battling her, she’ll heal your Pokemon and give you more supplies, whether you win or lose. Curie won’t let you give up. She has an Audino that she uses as a nurse to heal both people and Pokemon. It has little pom-poms to cheer you on as you battle Curie.

Elder Maxson: Ad Victoriam.
Intelligence, strength, power. These are some of many words used to describe Arthur Maxson, the Elder of his army, the Brotherhood of Steel. As the the Elder, Maxson personally makes sure his soldiers know what it means to be a Pokemon trainer. It isn’t about strength, defense, or speed, but raw determination, discipline, and respect for your team. Elder Maxson radiates power and generates respect. He stands tall, so his soldiers and Pokemon may look up to him. He walks with confidence, so his soldiers and Pokemon may march besides him with hope and vigor. Also, he’s kind of...racist. And pretty much anyone that isn’t a BoS soldier hates him. Has tried to personally kill the 7th and 8th gym leader - stopped because if he succeeded, he’d be booted from the E4, which he wants the BoS to have a firm foothold in.

MacCready: ‘Nother notch on my rifle!
Robert Joseph MacCready - a name that will bring a myriad of reactions depending on who you mention it to. Either despised or adored, people can agree on one thing only - the young man is way too good for his age. Picking up both a sniper rifle and a Fletchling at a young age to protect his people, MacCready is rude, greedy, materialistic - and a total family guy. His Togekiss and Drifblim were his wife’s before she died. He uses multiple tactics to win, and fights dirty. Defensive strategies and accuracy are key to reaching the Champion. If you lose, expect raspberries and ‘L’s and ‘neener neener neener’.

Valentine: Peering deep into the darkness, wondering, fearing.
As the Commonwealth’s best (only) detective, Nick Valentine is always working. His room in the Elite 4 is his office, with papers stacked to the ceiling. His main office/workplace is in Diamond City, with his secretary, Ellie Perkins, running it while he’s away. It’s odd that he uses Dark-types, but people think he only uses them to fit his “Noir-Detective” aesthetic. They’re right and wrong. They do fit his aesthetic, especially with the black/pink color scheme with his Psychic types, but Dark types have a knack for solving mysteries. That knack, paired again with his Psychic Pokemon, help him immensely with cases. That, and their mischievousness is cute to him. Dogmeat, a shiny wild Mightyena, is often consulted for his nose-work.

THE CHAMPION
Preston Garvey: Protect the people at a minute’s notice.
Before the Minutemen army collapsed, they prided themselves on their Pokemon. Every Soldier was given a team that could best help with building settlements and protecting them. Water, Electric, and Grass types were mandatory, for growing food, electricity, and clean water. Preston joined the ranks with a Mudbray he had since he was a kid, born from his dad’s Mudsdale. It was the only Pokemon of his to survive Quincy. After the massacre, he made it his goal to be strong enough to never let history repeat itself. After Sanctuary was able to defend itself, he set out to find weak Pokemon, as he was raised to believe the strongest creatures start out as the smallest. Now, that determination can be seen by trainers all across the Commonwealth. Preston has the ability to carry out the protection he swore to the people of the wasteland, and he will mow down anyone or thing who threatens them.

adventurecore drabble
genre: modern phrophets
word count: 584
song I was listening to: don’t stop me - queen
warnings: not scary monsters, hitting people with a flashlight, boxcutter at someone’s throat, brief mentions of guns, tasers, and police, threatening to fillet someone from the knees down, missing someone a lot
intensity rating: 4/10
other: big Number Five energy lmao, kind of a reader insert ig ??, asks are open so send in requests if you want more
Tumblr media
I enter the department store, with one specific purpose. I swing the heavy flashlight in my hand by the hastily attached strap, a wild, cocky expression on my face. An employee welcomes me to their store, her icy blue eyes getting more intense, unnatural, the longer I look at them.
"What can I-"
"Where is it." I demand.
Malicious indifference passes over her face.
"I don't know what you mean. We just got in a new-"
"You know exactly what I'm looking for," I spit, "this is your one warning. Give it back to me or I will take it."
She reaches for a walkie talkie clipped to her waistband. Before she can say anything, I nail her in the head with the flashlight. I run for the front desk and smack the phone out of the manager's hand. She wails, clutching her shattered hand. She turns on me and snarls, light glowing from behind her brown eyes. Contacts. I realize too late. She lunges over the counter and I dodge at the last second. I swing the flashlight again, hitting her square between the shoulder blades. I jump and slide over the counter and enter the back rooms. I pass an equipment room, and quickly stop to grab a box cutter and some tape.
I navigate a short maze of halls and doors, shining the light on each one before the flashlight flickers. That must be the door I’m looking for. A security guard spots me, reaching for a gun or a taser. I knock it out of his fumbling grip before he can do anything. Grabbing his collar, I place the blade of the box cutter, now taped to the top of the flashlight, at his throat. I take his walkie and phone and throw them across the room.
“Enter the code or I will fillet you from the knees down,” I hiss. He starts to sputter some excuse, and I press the metal edge of the flashlight further onto his neck.
“One more chance,” I breathe, “Enter. The. Code.” He presses a few numbers on the key pad under the door handle and it clicks open. I retract the blade and use the flashlight to knock him out. I run into the room, looking around. I rip open boxes and desk drawers until I finally find it. I gently pick up the VHS tape, reading the words in familiar handwriting. I leave the room, passing more doors until I find the break room. I look under the TV and there’s a DVD/VHS player. I breathe a sigh of relief.
I hear distant sirens, and set the VHS down on a table. I start pushing all the tables and chairs, a fridge, some microwaves, and even a vending machine against the doorway and fire exit. Exhausted, I stagger to the TV and insert the VHS tape. I sit on the floor, transfixed as the screen comes to life. An emotion I can’t quite place hits me full force as I see the face on the screen.
‘Forgetting your memories again?’ you ask, your familiar voice engulfing me like a hug.
‘It’s okay, I’ll help you remember.’ I blink away tears so I don’t miss anything. The noises outside get louder, but I don’t even notice. I turn up the volume and keep watching.
Four and a half minutes later the police break through my barricades. As they look around, the empty VHS player logo bounces around the screen. I’m already gone.

“Hi, the names Asshole BitchBoi and you sent me some shit!” Grave throws a box onto her couch as she flops onto the floor. “Oh dear, this video is probably going to get demonetised.” Grave laughs as she sits up again.
“God she’s so ridiculous, I love this kid.” Jake laughs as he watches the video, his curled hair currently being tamed by a hairstylist as the group prepares for their show.
“I gotta fuckin… hold on.” Grave moves out of frame of the camera, grabbing a box cutter and a shoe. She tapes her microphone to the shoe as she opens the first box, sighing. “Why do your guys keep sending me d i a p e r s.” Grave giggles as she looks inside the box.
“What the fuck?” Hannah leans over from her seat, her makeup artist groaning quietly as she laughs at the video before leaning back, silently apologising as her makeup gets put on again.
“Oh boy, can’t wait to shit my pants at the next board meeting! It’ll be the most eventful part of my day!” Grave lays the diapers over her lap before throwing them away again, grabbing another package to open.
“I will never understand how she comes up with these lines so quickly…” Leena giggles as she listens to the video, sitting still as her hair is styled for her.
“Snack guy!!!” The mask Grave wears flashes happily as she dumps the contents of the box onto the table, looking at it. “I… I read ‘Cookie Sticks’ as ‘Coochie Sticks’ and I was about to be really concerned.” Grave giggles. “But thank you for the cookie sticks and like… 16 pounds of chocolate. Ya really spoiling me, Snack guy.”
“That is a lot of snacks.” Iden notes as he moves to stand behind Jake, his hair styled already, watching as Grave opens the next box, her mask flashing again, looking slightly angry.
“Aaa it’s filled with g l i t t e r. like, I love glitter but I hate that it gets everywhere.” Grave removes a tiny note from the box, reading it aloud. “Eat a bag of dicks… how nice of you.” Grave jokes, pulling out a censored packet of sweets. “Ah yes, and you’ve provided the dicks for me to eat! Thank you, may you have light dysentery this Christmas.” Grave jokes.
“What a generous gift, only a light disease.” Hannah snorts as her makeup gets finished, laughing quietly.
“Also, I forgot to mention that I got a new mic and camera! Now you can shittier things at higher quality.” Grave’s mask winks as she opens another package, laying the items out in front of her.
“How kind of her.” Jake snickers as he gets up, his hair finally behaving and styled properly.
“We got a mirror, toy phone, five Canadian dollars, a… gun??? And-” Grave picks up the items on the table, recounting each of them. She pulls out a large teddy bear, holding it gently. “Somft boi. I’ll call you um… Donut. Donut!”
“Donut is adorable.” Leena comments happily as her hair gets finished, the stylist moving away. “We’re on soon!” She exclaims excitedly.
“I think I might just sleep like this once I’m done with the video.” Grave lays on top of Donut happily, the video cutting to nighttime. “So I actually fell asleep during the video… and I’ll open the rest of the packages tomorrow!” Grave laughs as she speaks.
“Jeez.” Iden laughs as he watches, dragging Jake out of his chair gently. “On in 2! So be ready everyone.” He calls out to the rest of the group, who all nod as they make final preparations for going on stage.
“Snack guy, you sent me more stuff!” Grave opens another package in the video, sounding excited, dumping a lot of gummy bears on the table. “I’ll live off candy for ten whole years!” She exclaims, Iden laughing as he hears them being announced.
“On in thirty! Come on, gotta go out there!” Jake turns his phone off, stopping the video as they leave the room to stand backstage before going on.
Grave stands outside the large stadium riddled with security, holding a small blue orb in her hand as she waits for the right moment. It was a well-known fact that the group didn’t do meet and greets often and this stadium didn’t allow them, meaning backstage wouldn’t be as guarded.
“Here goes nothing.” Grave smiles as she tosses the orb, no sound being made as her mask flashes, blinding her for a moment before she’s able to see that she’s inside the dressing room.
The inside of the dressing room is tidy and clean, Hannah’s jacket hanging on her chair in front of her mirror. It’s the closest to the TV inside the room, which is broadcasting the show live. Grave smiles, sitting on the floor beside the chair happily as she watches the TV.
The group is on stage already, Hannah in the middle of performing a song Grave has remixed from them before, Leena providing the backing vocals while Iden plays guitar and Jake the drums.
Grave glows happily as she watches them, Hannah spinning with Leena as she sings the song perfectly, smiling joyfully as the song finishes, switching to get her violin quickly as Iden takes the mic.
Grave glows more as Iden begins singing, Leena and Jake backing now as Hannah pays her violin behind them, the song more soft and slow as they perform. Grave tries to control her glow as she watches, not wanting to glow too much.
Leena’s song comes next, the rest of the group on backing instruments as she sings, her voice warm and soft as she dances on the stage slowly while singing.
Grave tries and fails to control her glow, buzzing gently as she focuses on the TV, Leena belting out a large note, smiling as she holds it perfectly. Grave closes her eyes, playing with her fingers to calm her down and prevent her from glowing too much, almost lighting up the entire room.
Leena’s song finishes happily as Jake takes centre stage, jumping on the stage as he sings a more upbeat song, Grave recognising the altered backing track, sounding similar to the remix she herself had made of the song. That makes her glow more, the entire stadium lighting up for half a second, making Jake falter slightly on one of his notes in confusion.
But they manage to finish the show, thanking the crowd once Jake’s song finishes before they are brought off stage by the crew. Grave panics slightly as they leave the stage, her body glowing negatively.
“The fuck? You aren’t supposed to be in here!” A security guard opens the door to the changing room, his expression angry as he stares at Grave incredulously.
“I-I know, and that’s why…” Grave slowly gets up off of the floor. “I am going… to leave.” She tries to sound calm as she speaks.
“I don’t think so. You cant just sneak back here and expect to get out again. I don’t know what you were doing back here.” The security guard blocks the door, grabbing Grave’s arm roughly.
“That’s… that’s reasonable.” Grave sounds calm despite the fear running through her, trying to figure out what she should do in this situation.
“Come with me now and maybe the police will go a little easier on you.” The guard pulls her out of the room, frightening Grave.
She operates on instinct, landing a solid hit into the guards face with her prosthetic arm, running away as fast as she can. She rounds a corner, running straight into Hannah as she walks with a stage crew member, knocking her flat onto the ground, a loud thud ringing out.
“What is going on? Why are you back here?!” The stage person questions, looking angry as Hannah sits on the floor for a moment, processing the situation as Grave backs away, her brain screaming at her as the inside of her mask flashes a painful red.
“I-I-” Grave’s voice is quiet as she tries to speak, her mask flashing red in panic as her eyes begin to sting. Hannah frowns from the floor, signalling the stage person to back off as she gets up. She gets off of the floor, stepping closer to Grave.
“D-Didn’t m-mean to-” Grave stammers as she backs away from Hannah, her brain unable to think of anything as she worries about getting hurt. Hannah frowns more, gently grabbing Grave’s hand as she pulls her away from everyone else, leading her into a smaller lounge room, closing the door behind them.
“S-Sorry.” Grave shakes now as she speaks, glowing in fear as she looks at Hannah in front of her.
“Hey, hey its alright. Calm down…” Hannah’s voice is soft and calm, quiet as she soothes Grave gently, her expression softening.
“B-B-But you got… h-hurt?” Grave feels confused as she calms slightly, continuing to shake as she looks at Hannah.
“I’m fine. Not hurt. Everything’s okay.” Hannah reassures Grave, holding her shoulders gently to ground her.
“O-Okay…” Grave’s glowing goes down as she feels calmer, still slightly worried as she tries to feel calmer.
“See? Everything’s okay… nothings gonna happen to you.” Hannah smiles gently as she reassures Grave more. Grave nods, her mask flashing happily as she taps her feet gently against the floor, calming down.
“What were you doing back here kiddo?” Hannah questions, holding Grave gently by the shoulders as she speaks.
“I-I was watching the show on the TV… I was gonna leave once the show was over.” Grave explains quietly, feeling slightly nervous.
“The TV in our dressing room?” Hannah frowns slightly as she thinks about it. “How’d you get in there?” She questions.
“I uh…” Grave feels slightly more nervous as she explains more. “I-I… teleported there…” She mumbles quietly.
“You teleported into our dressing room to watch the show?” Hannah clarifies, looking slightly confused.
“Y-Yeah…” Grave feels scared again, her screen slowly turning red as she speaks quietly, getting more worried.
“You okay? Grave?” Hannah questions, squinting as she senses the bad aura coming off of Grave as her screen flashes.
“I’m fine…” Grave lies, nodding in an attempt to convince Hannah, though it doesn’t seem to work.
“Clearly you aren’t hun.” Hannah moves her hands, holding Grave’s face gently. “Look at me, okay?” She questions, her expression concerned.
“M-Mhm…” Grave tries her best to look, though the bright flashing inside her mask hurts her eyes too much, blinding her slightly.
“You can’t see me can you?” Hannah questions, all too aware of what is happening as she watches the girl in front of her.
“N-No…” Grave shakes her head, close to crying as she admits it to Hannah, her voice hushed.
“You wanna take the mask off for a second? You can put it back on…” Hannah offers, pulling Grave gently, sitting her down on one of the couches beside her. Grave obliges, removing the mask from her face to reveal a worried expression to Hannah, her hands shaking.
“There we are… can you see me now?” Hannah questions as she looks at Grave’s face, her expression gentle.
“Y-Yeah.” Grave nods, feeling worried and afraid of what was going to happen to her as she speaks.
“Okay just look at me kiddo. Everything’s okay. Just breathe.” Hannah instructs Grave calmly, her voice soft and soothing. Grave obeys her, breathing shakily as she starts to feel better again.
“Everything’s fine. What got you so stressed?” Hannah questions, watching Grave as she calms down.
“I-I… I thought my answers to your questions were stupid a-and I thought you were gonna get mad at me for them.” Grave explains quietly.
“I’m not mad. No ones mad… except maybe my bodyguard. What did he say to you?” Hannah holds Grave’s face gently as she asks the question.
“H-He said to come with him now and the police might go easier on me…” Grave explains, looking worried.
“Okay well that’s not happening so don’t worry…” Hannah reassures her softly, her smile warm.
“I punched him in the nose…” Grave admits, looking down as she thinks, speaking quietly.
“Well then we will deal with that.” Hannah’s smile is gentle as she speaks. “Its alright.” She reassures Grave softly. Grave closes her eyes, her eyes hurting as she smiles, glowing happily as Hannah holds her face softly.
“Do you wanna hug?” Hannah offers, wanting to calm her down more as he holds her face gently. Grave freezes slightly, surprised by the offer.
“Y-Yeah.” Grave admits. Hannah quickly obliges, pulling Grave into a warm hug, enveloping her softly.
“You feelin a bit better kiddo?” Her voice is soft and soothing as she questions Grave quietly. Grave only nods, close to crying as she hugs Hannah back. “We’re gonna get this all sorted out, you aren’t in trouble.” Hannah reassures her gently from the hug.
“O-Okay…” Grave has some tears in her eyes as she answers, Hannah squeezing her gently in the hug.
“You’re alright.” Hannah raises a hand, gently stroking Grave’s head in a comforting manner as she holds her. Grave cries quietly as she is held, feeling happy as she receives a comforting touch she hasn’t been able to have in years.
“Hey, you’re okay.” Hannah leans back slightly, wiping some of the tears off of Grave’s face as she speaks, pressing their foreheads together gently.
“H-Haven’t done this in a while…” Grave explains, smiling as she cries gently at the comforting touch.
“Well that’s okay…” Hannah squeezes Grave lightly into another hug. “You can do it now. We don’t have to go anywhere yet.” She reassures softly.
“T-Thank you…” Grave smiles as tears slip down her cheeks gently, so happy she doesn’t know what to do with herself.
“Its okay…” Hannah resumes her soft stroking motion on Grave’s hair, her voice soothing and calm. Grave shakes as she calms down, starting to get used to the soft touch. Hannah hums gently as Grave’s glow gets duller, starting to feel sleepy.
“I have a question…” Grave’s voice is soft as she speaks, quiet as it gets harder to stay awake.
“What’s your question kiddo?” Hannah questions gently, holding Grave in her arms softly.
“How’d you know my name?” Grave asks quietly, feeling confused as to how Hannah knew who she was.
“I know a lot of things about a lot of people.” Hannah answers, humming her answer quietly.
“Oh… that’s cool.” Grave feels happy as she responds quietly, embracing the hug from Hannah.
“Its very cool.” Hannah agrees, smiling as she gently holds Grave in her comforting hug.
“You’re very cool…” Grave buzzes lightly as she speaks, feeling happy and calm now.
“Well thank you.” Hannah squeezes Grave gently in the hug. “We think you’re very cool too.” She returns the compliment.
“You do?” Grave squeaks out softly, feeling surprised as she grows more sleepy, Hannah’s warmth seeping into her.
“Course we do hun. You’re a very cool kid.” Hannah explains softly as she hugs Grave.
“T-Thanks.” Grave smiles happily as she struggles to stay awake, her entire body wanting to fall asleep.
“You okay kiddo?” Hannah catches on, questioning her softly as she holds her carefully.
“Mhm, just sleepy…” Grave explains, nodding as she tries to keep her eyes open, though it isn’t working.
“Well that’s okay. You wanna take a nap here? I’ll stay with you.” Hannah offers gently.
“Yeah, I-I’d like that…” Grave nods, smiling as Hannah gently pulls her into her lap to hold her better.
“There we go…” Hannah’s voice is hushed and soft as she strokes Grave’s hair in a comforting manner. Grave glows slightly before she falls asleep, feeling comfortable and calm.
Grave comes to a while later, able to tell she is alone a she lies on a bed, tucked in gently. Too sleepy to feel confusion, Grave only feels comfortable as she reaches up, checking to see if her mask was still there. Her mask covers her face, placed back in the correct position, making Grave smile as she opens her eyes, able to hear noise coming from outside the room.
“Mmm…” Grave stares at the closed door to the room, wanting to know what the noise is without getting out of the comfortable bed. The noises continues, sounding soft at first.
“Hello?” Grave feels confused as she wakes up more, aware of what is going on around her as she see’s the other beds in a bunk bed formation around her.
Some more noise sounds off now, muffled yelling and screaming noises coming from outside the presumed tour bus Grave was inside.
This concerns Grave, making her get out of the bed as she shakes lightly, feeling scared as the noise gets louder, the sound of a door opening and closing going off near Grave.
Grave gets more scared, readying herself in case she needs to fight as some voices come from outside the room, the door being pushed open by someone.
Grave glows in fear as she watches the door, backing up as she shakes intensely, surprising Hannah as she comes into the room, making her flinch as she closes the door behind her, coming inside quickly.
“Hey, its alright. Just me…” Hannah reassure gently as she enters the room, looking at Grave.
“A-Are you okay? I-I heard screaming…” Grave explains, worrying only about Hannah as she speaks, wanting to know what happened.
“I’m fine. Everything’s fine. Its just a crowd, its all okay.” Hannah’s voice is hushed as she comforts Grave, getting closer to her.
“O-Oh. Okay…” Grave latches onto Hannah, hugging her gently in her worry, glowing as she starts to feel a bit better.
“Shhhh, its okay. I’m fine. Everyone’s okay.” Hannah returns the hug, squeezing Grave gently.
“That’s good…” Grave squeaks lightly as she is squeezed, feeling better as she smiles.
“You really needed that sleep huh hun?” Hannah smiles as she leans back, holding Grave’s face gently in her hands, making Grave blush at the contact.
“I think so, haven’t slept since Friday.” Grave glows, not entirely sure of the last time she had actually slept.
“It’s definitely been longer than Friday kiddo.” Hannah holds her face as she leans out of the hug. “It’s been a very long time.” She corrects her softly.
“How long?” Grave questions, feeling confused as she looks at Hannah, still not quite used to being touched.
“Mmm about two days actually.” Hannah explains, laughing quietly. “We actually just finished another show, hence all the screaming fans…” She continues.
“Oh! …I don’t like screaming. It scares me.” Grave explains, smiling as she wiggles gently.
“I don’t much love it either.” Hannah smiles as she reassures Grave. “But they’ll stop soon once security escorts them away from the bus.” She explains calmly.
“That’s good.” Grave smiles, feeling happy as she glows. “What time is it?” She questions, already aware of the answer.
“Its… around 11? So yeah, its kinda late but none of us sleep properly on the road, so…” Hannah shrugs as she explains.
“You guys sleep?” Grave questions, sounding and looking confused as she asks, making Hannah smile.
“Of course we sleep.” Hannah laughs. “Not much, but we do.” She explains, smiling happily.
“Oh! That’s not good.” Grave wiggles happily. “Where’s everyone else anyways?” She questions.
“They’re at the front of the bus if you want to come and meet them.” Hannah explains, smiling gently.
“I-I’d like that.” Grave smiles as she wiggles happily. Hannah smiles, gently grabbing Grave’s hand as she leads her through the door to the front of the bus, where the rest of the group is chatting quietly amongst themselves.
“Hello…” Grave’s mask flashes happily as she greets them quietly. Leena stops her conversation, smiling as she jumps up from her seat.
“Hello sweetheart! How you feelin?” Leena’s voice is sweet as she wraps Grave in a big warm hug.
“I-I’m good! What about you?” Grave returns the hug out of surprise as she blushes slightly, still getting used to touch.
“I’m doin great! Leena smiles happily. “We just finished a show, so I’m feelin very happy, plus our makeup artist should be here soon to help us take it all off.” She giggles as she explains. Grave glows happily, squeaking quietly as she is hugged, Iden smiling as Leena gently lets her go.
“Welcome back to the land of the living kiddo.” His voice is warm as he greets her, smiling genuinely.
“Mmmnot kid.” Grave giggles as she argues quietly, making Iden grin as she speaks.
“You’re younger than us, therefore you’re a kid.” Jake reasons, smiling as he talks to Grave.
“Not how it w o r k s. I am an adult boi!” Grave fakes anger as she looks at Jake, failing to be convincing.
“How it works here.” Jake explains, laughing. “And you’re here right now.” He reasons, smiling mischievously.
“Or am I?” Grave questions, glowing happily as she talks to the group, her skin lighting up.
“Well Hannah said you might be staying. Of course if you wanna.” Jake smiles as he reveals the offer to Grave.
“A-Are you sure I wont like… bother you or anything?” Grave feels surprised and confused by the offer.
“You know we all know who you are, right? We’ve seen the remixes, and they are awesome! You couldn’t bother us if you tried.” Jake laughs.
“T-Thank you…” Grave glows, feeling so happy that her mask flashes red as she blushes.
“But of course its only if you wanna stay here… if you’ve got things you need to do we totally get it.” Hannah explains, smiling as she gently holds Grave’s shoulder.
“Let me check my schedule…” Grave messes with her mask, pretending to look. “Yep, it’s all filled with nothing. I-I can stay.” Grave smiles.
“Well welcome aboard kiddo.” Hannah laughs, patting Grave’s shoulder gently. “I’m sure you’ll get along with everyone great, especially our makeup artist, she’s a real sweetheart.” She explains. Grave glows happily, lighting up the entire bus for a second as she giggles.
“Ah, sorry.” She apologises, Hannah laughing as someone knocks on the door to the bus.
“Speaking of makeup artist, you ready to meet her?” Hannah questions, smiling happily.
“Mhm!” Grave smiles excitedly as she taps her feet against the floor, her fingers wiggling as Hannah nods, opening the door. A tall girl steps inside, her warm skin adorned with freckles and a scar running across her nose, no makeup currently present on her face. Her curly hair is messily pulled off of her face as she walks into the bus quietly.
“Hi!” Grave’s mask flashes red in happiness as she watches the girl step onto the bus. She see’s Grave, her face lighting up with a bright smile.
“Hi good to see you up and about!” She smiles happily. “I’m Rose!” She explains as she closes the door behind her.
“I-I’m Grave!” Grave smiles as she glows softly, feeling happy as Rose comes into the bus, sitting down in front of Leena with her makeup remover.
“Its nice to meet you Grave!” Rose smiles as she gently begins wiping the makeup off of Leena’s face. “By the way, the manager said she wanted to talk to you guys once I’m done.” Rose explains, referencing the venue’s manager as she speaks.
“Grave, you alright if Rose hangs with you for a bit when we’re gone?” Hannah questions as she nods to Rose’s explanation.
“Yeah, I’m cool with it!” Grave plays with her fingers as she speaks, on autopilot as she stands.
Rose removes their makeup in a speedy fashion, clearly used to doing it as she backs off once Hannah is done, moving to sit closer to Grave.
“Okay, we’ll be back as soon as we can be, alright? Just stay inside the bus.” Hannah waves as the group walk outside, being escorted by security to make their meeting, the door shutting behind them. Grave smiles, wiggling as she glows, unsure of what to do or say as she looks at Rose.
“Hey, would you mind if I had a small nap in here? I haven’t slept in a while, and I’m about to pass out.” Rose jokes, laughing gently.
“I don’t mind!” Grave wiggles as she smiles, feeling happy. Rose returns the smile, lying down on the couch as she grabs a large blanket, cocooning herself inside of it.
Grave glows softly as Rose falls asleep, her face peaceful and relaxed from within her blanket cocoon. Grave lies down on the floor, messing with her mask for fun as she lets Rose sleep. As she works, she can hear some faint noises coming from outside the bus.
Grave continues to work on her mask, though she feels confused. The noise seems to get closer to the bus, sounding like quite a few people as Grave listens to it.
Grave gets closer to the door, feeling slightly scared as the noise gets closer, sounding like screaming as it approaches the bus more, loud and excited.
This scares Grave more, making her cover her ears as she frowns, her skin glowing negatively. The screaming gets closer; the crowd close to the bus as they yell loudly.
Grave shakes as bad thoughts enter her mind, making her slowly bang her head against the door as she tries to distract herself from the screaming outside, which gets louder and louder. The sound of Grave banging her head stirs Rose slightly, making her frown in her sleep.
Grave bites her fingers, her brain screaming too much to think straight as she glows brightly, buzzing as she panics, removing her mask to hide her face with her hair instead. Rose opens her eyes half way as she wakes up slightly.
“…What?” Rose looks confused, frowning as she hears the screaming coming from outside, waking her up more.
“S-Screaming.” Grave explains, trying not too look panicked as she looks at Rose, continuing to bit her fingers. Rose frowns as she wakes up fully, pulling the blanket off of her as she gets off of the couch.
“Stay in here, okay? I’ll be back in a minute.” Rose explains as she goes to the door of the bus.
“O-Okay.” Grave bites her fingers a little bit harder as Rose quickly slips out of the bus, the door closing behind her. The sound of screaming outside gets louder as she gets out there, more excited.
Grave bites her fingers harder, not noticing as blood comes out, her teeth breaking through the skin as her mask blinks red beside her on the floor. Some different yelling sounds out, seemingly coming from security as Grave can hear Rose as well outside.
Grave bleeds more as the door to the bus opens, the sounds of yelling getting louder for a moment before it closes, someone coming inside. Some hands cover grave’s ears as she panics, blocking out the noise.
Grave tenses at the sensation, her fingers bleeding heavily, though she can’t taste it as she panics, feeling scared.
“Just me. Its just me.” Rose coos softly as she carefully pulls her blanket back over, wrapping Grave in it as she carefully scoops her up. Grave is carried to the back of the bus, Rose sitting on a bed with her to get her away from the noise.
Grave shakes as Rose sits with her, shutting her eyes tightly as she tries to stop her brain from screaming. Rose shushes her gently, grabbing some bandages from a drawer.
“Its okay… its all over now.” Rose reassures Grave gently, wrapping the wounds on her fingers carefully to stop them from bleeding.
“S-Sorry…” Grave feels slightly calmer, though she continues to shake, speaking quietly.
“Hey, its okay. I know you don’t like screaming, Hannah told me…” Rose smiles gently as she finishes bandaging Grave’s fingers. “Security is making them leave.” She reassures, the screaming outside getting slightly quieter.
“G-Good…” Grave shakes less as she calms down more, her voice hushed as Rose flashes her a gentle smile.
“They’ll be gone soon…” She reassures as the screaming gets quieter. Her voice is soft as she holds Grave gently, her seated on Rose’s lap comfortably.
“Thank you…” Grave hides in Rose as she speaks, feeling calmer as she almost whispers her words.
“Its okay… just breathe and everything will be fine.” Rose hugs Grave gently as she reassures her, her voice soft and calm. Grave breathes to calm herself down, feeling slightly happier now that Rose is hugging her.
“There we go…” Rose coos gently, squeezing Grave gently as she holds her in her arms. Grave squeaks softly, sounding small and cute. “You feeling better?” Rose smiles as she hugs Grave gently.
“Mhm… thank you.” Grave nods, focusing on the touch, feeling nice as she hugs Rose.
“That’s okay…” Rose rubs Grave’s back gently as she speaks, the movement rhythmic and soft.
“Sorry that they woke you up… that was very rude of them.” Grave closes her eyes as she speaks.
“Its fine, better than you being scared alone…” Rose pulls Grave closer, her hand moving from Grave’s back to her head, stroking the hair in a soothing manner.
Grave melts, purring happily as Rose strokes her hair softly, enjoying the touch as Rose smiles gently, pulling the blanket around Grave more, and providing more warmth to her.
“Mmm… trynna make me blush, aren’t you?” Grave blushes as she speaks, feeling warm and comfortable as Rose laughs, moving onto the bed more.
“Not trying to, but I’m not disappointed if that’s the result.” She explains as she holds Grave.
“Good thing you cant see my face, its probably disgustingly red.” Grave giggles as she blushes more.
“I think your face is cute.” Rose argues quietly, pulling Grave back in the hug so she can place gentle kisses on her cheeks to prove her point. Grave squeaks, glowing more as Rose giggles.
“Sorry, but I couldn’t help it!” She justifies, laughing quietly. Grave retaliates, pressing a soft kiss onto Rose’s lips. Rose freezes, looking surprised as she flushes red, closing her eyes and covering her face as she lets go of Grave.
Grave giggles mischievously as Rose flops onto the bed, shaking slightly as she hides her face from Grave.
“Are you okay? I-I’m sorry…” Grave gets concerned at Rose’s shaking, but Rose shakes her head.
“I-I’m fine… just d-didn’t expect that…” She laughs. “Ow…” She groans slightly as she stops laughing.
“What’s hurting?” Grave questions, feeling confused and concerned as she looks down at Rose.
“Its nothing bad… I just managed to get hit in the jaw by one of those shits.” Rose explains, huffing as she puts her arms over her face.
“I will make them eat their own shoes.” Grave promises, feeling angry with the person who did this as Rose laughs.
“Its fine… coulda been much worse.” Rose reasons, smiling as she uncovers her face. “Doesn’t help my tiredness though.” She snorts.
“Go back to sleep then!” Grave exclaims, covering Rose in blankets as she speaks. “Sleep for three days, you deserve it.” Grave reasons as Rose laughs.
“You wanna join me?” She questions, shifting to lie down properly in the bed as she talks.
“Y-Yeah!” Grave blushes at the offer, laying down next to Rose as she too gets covered in blankets. Rose closes her eyes as she lays with Grave, falling asleep quickly, her face peaceful and calm. Grave smiles warmly, leaning forward to press her forehead against Rose’s as she falls asleep in her own time, listening to Rose’s rhythmic breathing beside her.

I'm a sucker for Rhys, so maybe he's working on commissions at work and injured himself (knife slips and he cuts himself pretty bad, pressure pot explodes and catches him off guard--there's a cosplayer that happened to and he has a false eye now and plates in his head--ect) and he's alone and has to figure out how to get help because the pain is making him dizzy and sick and his aphasia is worse than ever from the stress of it.
For a moment, Rhys was too shocked to move.
He’d been cutting a large sheet of foam when the box cutter he was using slipped forward, overshooting the foam board and slicing through his hand instead.
It didn’t even really hurt. Not at first. There was only a sickly cold feeling, and the sinking dread of knowing that he’d injured himself, and badly. The flesh gaped open, blood slowly welling to fill the incision before overflowing down the sides of his hand. He cupped his uninjured hand beneath the flow, trying to contain the blood as it fell in thick drops onto his desk.
Rhys sucked in a sharp breath, trying to force his brain into action. A bandaid wasn’t going to fix this, that much he knew. He almost certainly needed stitches.
There was so much blood. The sight of it made his head swim, an unwelcome reminder of his accident. He tried to breathe, tried to remind himself that it was just a cut. It was fixable.
He pushed away from the desk, leaving a trail of blood droplets marking his path as he stumbled into the bathroom. He found a clean washcloth and pressed it to the wound, hissing as the cloth made contact with his lacerated hand. Within moments he’d begun to bleed through it. He needed help.
Ignoring the blood staining his jeans, Rhys used his uninjured hand to fish his phone from his pocket. Between the blood on the screen and his shaking hand, it took him two tries to dial Flo’s number correctly.
After just a few rings, she answered, already sounding worried. He hardly ever called unless there was a problem.
“Rhys? Everything okay, babe?” she asked.
Rhys took a steadying breath, but when he opened his mouth to answer, no words came.
“Rhys?” Flo pressed.
He looked at his hand, which had now completely bled through the towel. More drops of blood fell to the floor with a soft patter.
“Water,” he said, his brain scrambling to put words to what he was seeing.
“Water?” Flo echoed. “I don’t understand, is something leaking?”
Just me, Rhys thought darkly. He tried again.
“Ow, hurts.”
“You’re hurt?”
He made a sound of affirmation.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, even more panicked. “Where are you hurt, Rhys?”
Some of the shock must have worn off, because his hand wasn’t numb anymore. It hurt, badly enough to make his head spin. He swallowed down the urge to be sick and sat down on the lid of the toilet to keep from passing out. The coppery smell of blood was everywhere, and for one horrible moment he was back in that car, broken and trapped.
He closed his eyes, heaving dryly.
“Rhys, baby, I need you to talk to me,” Flo begged.
He opened his eyes, focusing on the red dripping from his hand.
“Blood,” he gasped, his brain finally locking onto the correct word. “Blood, Flo. Hurts.”
He could hear her scrambling on the other end, heard the jingle of keys.
“I’m on my way,” she promised. “Ten minutes. Just stay on the phone with me, alright? You don’t have to talk, but stay with me.”
Rhys closed his eyes again and let his head fall back against the wall. Despite all the pain and fear, he was relieved. Flo was on her way. Flo would fix this.

Babysitting Butcher Chapter 47
“What’re you watching?” Billy came up behind me in our home office, his voice breaking through my earbuds and making me jump an inch out of my chair.  “Sorry, didn’t mean to spook ya.”  His lips against my forehead made the tension ease from my body.
“I must have been more riveted than I thought.”  I hit pause on the video, and sat back.  “Just thought I’d prep for meeting  Ryan.”  I’d been watching one of the stop motion videos Ryan had made of one of Becca’s favorite movies.  “He’s talented,” I offered, smiling up at Billy, “I can’t think of many kids under ten who can use Legos to make a complete remake of ‘Dances with Wolves.’”
“Becca always loved that stupid flick.”  He shook his head, a sad smile lurking on his lips.  “You were watching a movie he made?”
I nodded, and pointed at the computer screen.  “Yeah, he made a bunch, all non-violent movies.  Clearly an outlet his mom wanted him to have.  A good one, a way for him to be creative without being-”
“Without him tapping into his powers?”  Another nod from me.  “What’re you worried about, Ronnie?  Really?”
I considered how to explain without freaking out Billy Fucking Butcher to the point he’d go commando mode.  “Vought went completely opposite from where it went with Homelander with Ryan.”  I pointed out that they created an entirely false, safe community for him and Becca.  A cookie cutter, normal place with bland people, with a bland school, and with bland hobbies.  “Becca wanted so badly for her son to have a normal life, a safe and happy life, Billy.”  I rarely used her name and it felt strange on my tongue, but I wanted him to understand why I needed to see that Ryan was in a good place.  “I’d love to say that whomever Mallory was told would keep him safe is a good fit, but let’s be realistic, he’s being held by our government.  If Vought has some shady shit going on, do you honestly think that the US government is always on the up and up?”
“You’re worried that he might be being what, Ronnie, what are you worried about?”  He wanted me to name it. To put it in exact words, but I wouldn’t, not only because I didn’t know for sure, but also because I didn’t want Billy to make a hasty decision that couldn’t be undone.
“I just want to check on him, Billy, that’s all.”  I stood up and moved into his space, where he’d perched on the side of the desk, stepping between his legs and looking up into his face.  “I want to make sure that your promise to Becca is being kept, that’s all.”  And for the most part, that really was it.  I just worried, in the pit of my stomach, that it wasn’t.
I managed to watch three of Ryan’s Lego stop-motion film adaptations, getting Billy to watch “Terms of Endearment” with the promise that I’d reward him heavily.  I also was sworn to secrecy about the glassiness of his eyes at the end of it, because the pollen count was clearly high, it had nothing to do with the show, nothing at all.  I also went over some of the other videos from Becca and Ryan’s time before Homelander and Billy found them.
I wanted to know what Ryan’s schedule with his mom had been like.  The day to day, their special rituals, how they interacted, how they communicated.  This was important because, even after Homelander unveiled the reality of the world at large to Ryan, Becca and Ryan were still a duo.  Even when he took Ryan away, even when Stormfront tried to weasel her way into his affection, Becca was still his foundation.  Knowing how Ryan was reared by Becca would help me when I met him because it would help me gauge how he was dealing with the changes in his situation and circumstances.  How was he handling it, how were his powers manifesting because of it?
I also had Frenchie get me a tiny gadget that I didn’t want traced through the office or the usual channels.  It had come to me while we were having our party and Annie sat across from me at dinner.  If Vought chipped The Seven, then why wouldn’t they do the same to Ryan- the FIRST known child born of a supe.  And if that chip had been removed by his new guardians, why wouldn’t our people put one in.  My own experience showed me that it was more than likely that he was wired to the gills, even if he had no clue, so I had a gizmo that was more or less like an app on my phone that would tell me if he was and would act as a jammer should that become necessary.
I felt like a conspiracy theorist, but something about Ryan’s situation, the more I thought about it, the more it felt worrisome.  Billy, after careful consideration, was coming with me, but wanted to stay out of sight.  He promised me that he didn’t feel homicidal toward Ryan, but he wasn’t up to a face to face just yet.  Having him close by would be enough, for now.  And knowing that the rest of the supes were diverted with their own distractions kept my blood pressure down, for the most part.
Nondescript.  That’s how I would describe the neighborhood and housing development that Ryan’s new guardians chose to take up residence in.  Every house seemed to be identical to the one next to it, and honestly, from what I’d seen of the fake Vought community that he’d been raised in, it had more character.
“This is,” I sighed, as Billy grimaced while he drove down the boring street.  “Bland.”  Maybe they thought bland kept a supe calm?  Or maybe government guardians made shit wages and adopting Homelander’s offspring isn’t exactly lucrative, who knew?
We pulled up to a house that was forgettable, and Billy sighed.  “So much for staying out of sight.” No trees, no bushes, this was the worst place I’d ever seen for recon.  Which made some sense, if you considered supes trying to sneak up to abduct a kid.   “I’ll wait here, Ronnie.”
“Alright,” I turned to see that he was staring at me like he was willing me to stay in the car.  “I’ll be fine, Billy.”  Leaning closer, like a magnet he met me halfway, our lips brushing.  “I love you, don’t go crazy.  Play a game on your phone or something.”  He snorted and I got out of the car.
The sun beat down on the grass, which was surprisingly green, but there wasn’t any added color of flowers, nothing lined the walkway, there weren't any decorative touches added- no chairs on the porch, no flags, or wreaths.  Nothing that would mark this house from any of the others.  They didn’t even have a welcome mat.  Shrugging, I pressed the doorbell and waited.  And waited.  Finally I heard the muffled sounds of footfalls on the other side of the door, then the clicks and snaps of locks being turned, before the door opened a sliver and a bright blue eye blinked out at me.
“Hello?” The voice was quiet, hoarse, as though it was rarely used, and I smiled benignly.
“Hello, I’m Dr. Veronica Taylor,” let me in, I thought.  “I have an appointment to meet with Ryan.”  Open the damn door.
“Right,” the door shut, but instead of reopening all the way, I heard muttering on the other side and then again the blue eye in a sliver reappeared.  “Do you have ID?”  Couldn’t fault that caution, but I did have to question why it took a second person reminding this one to issue it.
Smile starting to twitch, I pulled my badge free, along with my office ID.  “Here,” I held it up for Blue Eye to see, along with whoever might be behind her, but out of reach so she couldn’t grab it.  “Now, may I come in for my appointment with Ryan?”
Again the door started to shut, but again there was a whispered conversation and I was starting to lose my patience.  “Whose in the car?”  Damn it.  I sighed.
“My driver, William Butcher.”  Blue Eye, who’d reopened her slat to ask blinked before her eye went wide.  “That’s right, same last name as Ryan.  Now may I enter?”
The door opened only wide enough for me to slip inside, and on the other side was a slender woman, the owner of the blue eye- I was happy to see that she had two of them.  And a man who demanded I submit to a pat down.  Rolling my eyes, I sat my briefcase down, and stood with my arms out and my feet shoulder width apart.  Once he was convinced I wasn’t packing heat, I was led into a surprisingly bright and airy living area.
In fact, aside from the blandness of the exterior, the entrance was beautifully laid out and decorated.  Large screen television, the art on the walls was both bright and yet also simple, the house was comfortable and lived in, but well appointed as well.  Told to make myself comfortable in the family room, Blue Eyes went to fetch Ryan, while her male companion stood watch over me.
“I do hope you know that as a psychologist, I have to ask you to leave the room when Ryan and I sit down together,” I offered, as I took a seat where I could keep my eye on the guard.  “It’s a violation of doctor/patient privilege, you see.”
“He’s a minor,” the man grunted, and I grinned.
“Do you want me to throw my full weight around?”  My head was tilted in challenge as Ryan was led into the room.  The man huffed at me, but he led Blue out and I waited until I felt they were at least a reasonable distance out of eye sight.  “Hello, Ryan.”  He was staring at me like he wasn’t fully committed to trusting me, which was good.  Ryan needed to learn a healthy level of distrust in the real world.  “My name is Dr. Veronica Taylor.”  He stepped closer, but well out of reach and I wondered if he’d learned a new reason to distrust.
“I thought I heard you say Billy’s name.” I smiled and nodded.  “Is he here?”  He looked slightly hopeful and it broke my heart.
“He’s outside, in the car.”  His eyes dropped to the carpet and I took a deep breath.  “Would you sit down with me, Ryan?”  He shrugged and I tried again.  “Billy and I want to make sure you’re doing well, that you’re-”
“If I’m not, would he-” he stopped, but I’d heard it, the slight break in his voice and I felt a clench in my heart.  “He wouldn’t want me to come live with him, would he?”
Shit, I thought, that wasn’t a question I’d prepared for.  “Come sit with me, Ryan, let’s talk about why you’d want to live with Billy instead of with Mr. and Mrs.-” Fuck, what was Blue Eyes and whatshisname?
Leaving Ryan in the brightly decorated on the inside, but bland as vanilla pudding on the outside house was the hardest thing I’d done since I left the clinic after Homelander’s failed attempt to murder me.  Hearing that he wasn’t mistreated, necessarily, but that he also wasn’t being cared for so much as he was being lived with was bad enough.  Remembering the gadget I’d asked Frenchie for, I’d run a quick scan and felt bile rise up when I realized that not only did our government chip the kid, but they hadn’t removed Vought’s.  Why would they leave those trackers in?
Saying goodbye to this little guy, a kid who idolized the man I love and who shared his last name, was harder than anything I’d ever thought possible.  Harder than walking into a clinic and having Homelander’s parasite removed.  Harder than slipping in and out of consciousness when the rejected Compound he’d had me injected with tried to self-destruct me.  Harder than when I thought Billy might one day see me as someone he would have to snuff out.
Ryan wanted to know if I’d be back, and when, and if I’d know if he could leave with me?  And I wished like hell I could tell him something worthwhile.  I knew I had more research to do, more files to delve into, including who Blue Eyes and Mr. Personality was, not to mention just what this neighborhood really was and how Ryan’s life was outside of that house.
As I slid into the car, before Billy could ask a single question, his thumb was brushing a tear away that I didn’t even realize was falling.  “Do I wanna know how fucked up it is?”  I shook my head, feeling like I couldn’t even start to put it into words and suddenly the sobbing that I hadn’t done for any of the shit that I’d had handed to me from supes came out in a rage and Billy pulled away from the curb, murmuring his love to me, as his hand held mine and he drove us home.
