Still waiting on someone to explain why Wanda is “The Harbinger of Chaos”, the “Chaos Queen”, and her magic is called “Chaos Magic” when she literally has nothing to do with chaos. Like.. nothing. Submitting specifically because Cinderella III: A Twist in Time has lived rent-free in my head ever since I was a small child.

This Cinderella is most young (western) peoples introduction to this very story. Cinderella is so hopeful and by getting one small magical adventure, her whole life changes for the better. She is skilled and inspires such loyalty with her kindness that it’s hard to dislike her for any reason she gives. I’ve always been jealous of her ball hairdo too.

Walt Disney put all he had into this movie. And his favorite animation was the dress transformation scene. There’s a reason she is often front and center on the Princess group promotions.

she is the original. to me. probably the first exposure to cinderella for a solid chunk of people alive & on tumblr today. she is just a perfect encapsulation of everything that cinderella is, even if she's become warped in the public consciousness. also i'm pretty sure she's the reason why the glass slippers are so predominant in more recent retellings bc she is simply so iconic. 100/10 no notes 💜

She's maybe not the OG OG but she was one of the first animated Disney princesses and strangely enough it doesn't stop her from having an amazing personality. She's literally a slave but keeps being a nice person, forgiving and always doing her best. And the sequels absolutely didn't ruin her character. She's a sweet girl who tries to fit in but who's loyal to the person she is and who tries to change things always in a cute and sweet way to show people it's not that hard. She literally forgave Anastasia and tried to help her after all she did to her (the scene where the step-sisters destroy her dress still is terrifying to me)... she's awesome and deserves more recognition honestly...

This girl’s biggest chance was unfairly snatched away from her. When the Prince was brainwashed she was enough to get him to double take. She was so Right that their connection over powered magic. And she had to be rescued from a ship. And was almost crushed within a pumpkin! And finally had to expose another imposter, who turned out to be just another victim of Lady Trameine. This Cinderella fought harder for her love because she knew what True Love was like and she still was able to forgive those who asked for it.

Live-Action Remake:

Of all the live action remakes of the past decade this one is my favorite. Somehow it keeps the essence of the 1950 story but makes it today relevant. Ella really does live her life by having courage and being kind. The mice and birds might not speak but she (and we) still understand. She didn’t want to go to the ball for any grand reason besides being able to see a friend. That blue dress was so beautiful! And the butterflies! Ella and Kit matched so well together the Princess, King, and Captain of the Guard all Knew. And that wedding dress!

Plus Ella forgave her stepfamily. That is something that take such great strength of character and kindness of heart.

Tbh I've never seen the movie but I was a young impressionable child (7 years old) when it came out and. There was an ad in a paper or something and I thought she was really pretty so I cut out and hung it on the wall. It stayed up for. Many years. This was likely the first sign that I was gay.

Paul Yellowjack (Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, Old Dusk the New Dawn Arc)

Paul just got called out. While his... diet in Old Dusk is more literal, this result does reveal a bit about himself. Paul's (familial) love for Silva is strong and without a doubt true, however, its this co-dependence which leads his love to become obsessive, as if he is the only one that understands her. While he knows her more than most, he hasn't known how much she's changed from the young woman he watched grow up on the Archipelagos. He longs for their connection, even when he himself admits that he does not deserve it, its the only thing that keeps him relatively sane. The "believed in magic" part comes to cruelly bite him in the ass when he is (reincarnated? resurrected? restored with horrifying abilities? IDK) and now as a swarm of wasps must seek out bodies/corpses in order to feed/puppeteer around and interact with people.

Frederick Rosemary (Life, Despair & Monsters)

I'd feel bad for him if I didn't know just how disgusting of a character he is. Frederick is all for going for the "fine" and forbidden/taboo things in life. His emptiness leads him to going the deep end of making people (especially children's) lives as miserable as possible. This man is wanted by the feds and would be on a watch list if it was common knowledge he was alive and some kind of cyborg. The fact Malvolio of all people sees him as a friend and close companion should tip off how screwed up this man is.

Aggravor the Accursed (A Radioactive Calamity of Love, Bombs & Gore, a Fallout fanfic series)

Aggravor is a nearly 3,000 year old human-turned-Lich that worked alongside a powerful inhuman warlock (from another dimension) named Arcane Urias, becoming one of the first official disciples of the Occult, a cult Urias founded to worship the Mad God of Carnage, Discord. Aggravor is being tutored under Urias' wing to learn more about older magic, beyond the basics and newest spells. Aggravor wants to become something more than what he originally was. He wants to be remembered as the most powerful spellcaster and curse-user who either succeeded or was second best to the likes of Urias and the Court King. Aggravor even manages to defeat or even fatally take out powerful casters like the Pumpkin King (an old-world supernatural being from medieval times) and Ore Brantley (one of Urias rebellious children). He was however outclassed and lost an eye in a fight with Ress Bishop (Urias remaining rebellious child). A thousand years later, he does achieve his life-long goal, for however short it is.

When a young orphan girl runs away, the last thing she expects is to be adopted by the Pumpkin King and move to a whole new magical place. All Eve has ever wanted was to have a family of her own but after so many rejections because of er night terrors, she's given up and just wants to escape the orphanage. Yet on Halloween during her latest escape attempt she runs into a talking Pumpkin man, the fabled Pumpkin King himself. When he offers to adopt Eve as his own daughter and make her the pumpkin princess, Eve has nothing to lose and accepts. Soon she find herself whisked away to Hallowell Valley, home to witches, vampires ghosts, and ghouls and all sorts of paranormal creatures. Yet not all of them are happy to have her there and if she wants to stay she'll have to convince them that she is meant to be part of the community. With sinister plots against her and her new father, Eve also finds friendship and family for the first time in her life. Can she protect them or will she lose them all? This was such a sweet and adorable read and I absolutely loved the quirky world that was built. The father daughter relationship in this book was so charming and I found myself smiling over how heartwarming this book was. It's the perfect mixture of found family, spooky season, and friendship. It's a wonderful read for fans of the Addams Family and Nevermoor!!

My Only Qualm With The Nightmare Before Christmas

We are all thinking it, so I'll say it out loud: Sally and Jack should have had better chemistry in the movie, other than Sally being down bad.

I know that this goofy spooky tale of a burnout artist rediscovering passion by committing a plethora of crimes yet turned out to be a beloved weirdo favourite character of all time is a beautiful movie, I just wish the side love story was BETTER.

I'll say it: Tim Burton should've had more say in that part of the story because Henry made it a little too...meh.

From what I have observed from Burton's work on love stories, he does know how to incorporate chemistry within his characters, even if they aren't in love stories. I only knew 3 movies of Selick and his work on how couples work isn't too bad but not so great either. This is purely opinionated, by the way, to take these words with a grain or maybe a teaspoon of salt. In James in the Giant Peach, the centipede and Miss Spider were given "already married" vibes. Their chemistry was good, but their journey was not fleshed out at all because it wasn't needed. The same goes for Coraline's parents. I don't think he clicks well with those kinds of stories. Otherwise, he is very good with epics or the classic "hero's journey." For Tim, he is actually quite the romantic. He did well with his previous works that I saw, like Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, and even Dark Shadows. Before you say Wednesday, it was okay. I just didn't like Tyler, I was suspicious of him from the get- go, my sensors were going off the roof. Anyway, the point is it would have been a little different if Burton had directed it, but he loved Batman Returns a little more.

Now, to the important topic, Jack and Sally's love story.

The movie didn't really give them the chance to progress and build ACTUAL chemistry. We were literally introduced to Sally sneaking around to see or stalk Jack, which can be normal given the context that the townsfolk of Halloween Town is well Halloween-y, but we don't get much about them together. If the love story wasn't added but those scenes of them interact remain, I would've thought they were good friends with potential, and fanfictions would have written better plots for them to get together. Honestly, we know they did. They are good friends, and I can really see that, but they really missed the mark in the show and tell with their relationship.

Case 1: Sally is basically living her own tale already, yet had little interaction with Jack.

I understand that she is supposed to have a crush on her friend, the Pumpkin King, but she was doing quite well with her own arc! The movie showed her estranged relationship with her "creator," often sneaking out and would even go to lengths of poisoning just to have some agency for her life. That was already pretty good, yet the point of her character was supposed to be...Jack's rock?

Look, Sally as a stand alone character is so good but the lackluster of actual substance between her and Jack is just so empty and it's like there was no build up for their ending. The movies just gave us their similarities and differences, separate journeys as individuals, and how well they can actually work together. Yet we get a nom conversation scene of Sally sneaking out to help Jack with her potions and ideas, sewing Jack's Santa suit and Sally blushing when she gets saved by Jack. Hello? Where is the chemistry??? At least give me small cute interactions of "Hey Sally" "Hey Jack" every time they interact.

Case 2: Jack and Sally seemed to be friends and then out of no where, they become a couple?

I was young and stuff but I feel like I missed the build up of them falling in love?? Its like The movie convincing me that there was a ham on the table the whole time when I smelled no meat cooking? Gaslighting me much???

Sally has a crush on him. WE GET IT. How about Jack??? What he saves her then suddenly he realizes he liked her the whole time? HOW? It's frustrating to find no clues at all other than polite words of "I am trusting you with this important task, my dear friend!" With that showmanship gusto. What I'm just seeing is that Jack sees her as a good friend, like how he sees most of the citizens in Halloween Town. We didn't see an actual intimate status of how deep their friendship is. I mean, if a small conversation of them just happened when Sally gave her trinkets to help him on his midlife crisis (actually, I want to just call it a hyperfixation), they really could've done something more with that storyline. A HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY.

Case 3: The movie literally was gaslighting us with this "love story"

The whole time, we were LED to believe Sally's feelings were unrequited and that she was at least APPRECIATED by Jack. And then, Jack saves her and Santa, suddenly he realizes he likes her? HOW DID WE EVEN GET THERE??

I was losing my mind like, did I miss something? When did all of that happen? What kind of message is this movie sending?

"Hey kids! Remember, if you try hard enough, they just might like you back".

Look, Sally is quirky and as much as I adore her, I do not condone her stalking tendencies. I get that she was trying to help in her own way and in the context of Halloween Town, this kind of behaviour is probably either fine or normal. The citizens' job is to literally sneak and scare. But, it still could send a misguided message.

I was reminded of Dylan's (Dylan Matthews, Dylan is in Trouble) commentary on "The Devil Wears Prada" where he said that movies really have to be careful with sending messages, he was referring to how Andy was seeing success in her job but dropped a dress size. While a lot of people could interpret this as bad sacrifices for a career, some could misinterpreting it as success equals those types of sacrifices, which is a no-no. The point of that scene is that Andy was engaging in toxic behaviours to succeed in a career she didn't even like in the first place.

Now, with the Nightmare Before Christmas, they were a little careless with the messages of how the two characters' love story worked. It came across lacklustre and had terrible to NO progression at all. They really messed up with this. Lucky for them, people still loved those characters as their individualities were fleshed out well. Also, because the games and books fixed this problem a little bit.

To my point, there was no love story during the whole movie, just a lovestruck girlie pop and a burnt out artist. Then, a Houdini magic show somehow came into the picture and decided to have Jack and Sally kiss by the end.

But here is the thing, the video games gave us the chemistry that lacked in the movie.

Kingdom Hearts delivered what I was deprived of.

Also, I got this image from a subreddit post that didn't like Sally because she "never believed in him". And the replies were good: "because Jack has bad ideas" and a reply to that comment: "that's the exactly the point, the town always gets swept up by his ideas and Sally is level headed enough to see that it's not a great idea".

She really is though, Jack is a showman with either hit or miss ideas and Sally is essentially the woman behind the man, so I guess it kinda makes sense that she would be the town's Pumpkin Queen.

New type of scarecrow of the fields

Could name them Dusk, but they are more like elder/veteran types. I'm not gonna colour it in but the hat and the "hay" are red, the shirt and eyes orange and the glove green in one hand, and the other has a pumpkin that spits explosive fire. And there's vegitation growing out of it's sacked body showing it's older, wiser and tougher but also slower.

Slavaria Cossack is a friend/weird harem group and is utterly shameless about it, with the same sort of chemistry that Clarkson/Hammond/May have. The 9-13 became members at various points after Sahaidachny's 'you're allowed to be you' arc. All of them are 15 in present day. 9-13 are based on existing characters in the same sense in which JJBA Stands are based on existing songs.

Note: 5 of my OCs in chronological order of meeting C.J.S. after his 'being able to be himself' revelation over the course of a few months - the stoic bodyguard-in-training Esmeralda Petersburg, the disciplinarian Tess Dileva, the poetic Kirumi Silkenstar, the spunky wannabe witch Karaina Caulton & the highly introverted loner Suki Ryushima - are derived from and inspired by existing OCs found on (y/n) x yandere quizzes on Quotev that I took a liking to thanks to the story/characters/detail/etc., like how much of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is inspired by Western songs. This includes their personalities. I took 5 such quizzes honestly answering the questions posed based on my personality and that of Clarkov J. Sahaidachny, my first and main OC, which are very similar in most ways but very different in some areas. These 5 were the results. As for the dere sides, they start out full on and become more mentally sound as time goes on. That part is inspired by the development of Mizore Shirayuki in Rosario + Vampire. It's how I have to do almost everything in life. Start out with a base, then slowly build it into my own thing. It's a bit annoying, but I make do with what I have. October-themed writeblr asks: pumpkin, apple, pie

🎃 pumpkin: do you have any favorite brainstorming techniques? how do you like to gather ideas for your wip?

I don’t know if it’s as much a question of gathering ideas as limiting ideas. Or maybe controlling them. I have all these possibilities, so how do I choose the right ones? I’ve started with an initial spark--how do I turn that into a coherent story?

Big guiding factors are tone and story structure. I generally know how I want the story to feel, and that’ll guide a lot of decision-making. (Like, that might be an interesting plot twist, but it makes this story too dark. Or, that’s a funny thought, but it would ruin the serious tone of the story.) Knowing the feel I want helps me to zero in on ideas that will contribute to that feeling. And then story structure provides a skeleton. A lot of rabbit trails can be eliminated by knowing that this has to be a short story rather than a sprawling novel--I have to zero in on what’s most important to me. And an idea doesn’t really become a story unless I have some notion of what the ending will be. Once I have that initial spark, and some idea of the type of ending I want (even if its’ just “a happy ending”), I can fill in the stuff in the middle much more easily. A lot of the middle stuff comes from genre, tone, and aesthetic, and by looking at what I already have and digging deeper into what it means, or how to make two contradictory ideas both be true.

As far as just plain gathering-the-material goes, it’s a collage. When I’ve got a story on the brain, anything I run across during my day could be picked up and examined for its potential as a story spark. I like using images a lot, because they can go a lot of different directions (and it has the added benefit of providing concrete images for later descriptions). Music can be helpful for deepening characters or emotional arcs. As the story idea develops, I might notice connections to other stories and themes that’ll spark further ideas.

🍎 apple: let’s talk about friendship in your wip. do you have any favorite friend/platonic dynamics? any friendships gone sour?

My main Inklings Challenge idea originally had a prominent thread of female friendship between two young teens. That thread would have been the focus of a Team Chesterton take on the story, but now that I’m officially Team Lewis, I’m putting more of an emphasis on the romance subplot between two other characters, while this friendship remains seasoning at the side. Since the personality of one of the two keeps shifting, it remains to be seen what form this friendship takes during the story, but it’ll involve one of them having to get over some skepticism and wariness and just reach out in kindness when she realizes that the other girl is just a person who needs support.

My backup idea centers around the friendship between two university students. He’s by-the-book, detail-oriented, rules-following, and cautious, and she is Enthusiasm personified and drags him into adventure. It’s a well-worn dynamic, but it’s a classic for a reason, and I’m having a lot of fun with it.

🥧 pie: let’s talk about food in your wip. are there any special recipes or traditional meals? do any of your OCs cook or bake?

Last year’s version of this Inklings Challenge idea prominently featured an autumnal feast, and I very much want to retain that this year, even if I have to slightly skew the story to fit it in. Bread will feature prominently, of course, as one of the Inklings images, but there will also be soup and as many other autumnal goodies as fit my fancy.

Even if I don’t get much focus on the feast, food is going to be a huge part of this story, because this fantasy world focuses on rulers as stewards of the land--in their world, an important old title for the king translates to “the one who feeds people”.
