Using ‘literary futures’ to open up the imagination
I’ve been aware of the concept of “literary futures” since I attended a workshop at Lancaster University’s then Institute for Social Futures in early 2020.[1] Emily Spiers ran a narrative futures component in an all-day workshop that was, presciently, about biohazards. I’ve seen solo Louis fans state that Larry broke up years ago and that Harry chose his solo career over Louis because if they were still involved as Harry is so much more mainstream and successful when compared to the other 1D boys (apart from maybe Zayn) why wouldn’t he help Louis’s success? Or get the people around him too?
I know people believe that. There are tons of people who have spent time debunking that theory, and the real, rational analysis is out there if you truly want to find it.
Personally, I’ve stopped trying to convince anyone they’re wrong, because you can only yell at a brick wall so much before you realize it’s your lungs that are giving out.
All I’ll say is: people like to conflate popularity and money with influence and power. It’s not the same thing, especially not in the entertainment industry. In fact, the entertainment industry is notorious for reducing artists to products (watch the documentary on Lou Pearlman, or research Rebecca Ferguson, if you need examples). As popular and lucrative as they are, artists are disposable to the people with real power.
Don’t believe me? Then why was Taylor Swift, already named one of the most powerful people in the music industry, still unable to protect herself from Scooter Braun? That’s not even an artist protecting a partner, that’s literally an artist unable to protect herself and her art.
So yes, I know people believe that, and they’re welcome to. It’s an old conversation and everything that needed to be said about it has already been said, so if they’re not convinced, there’s really no convincing them. I certainly won’t be bothering.

Hey there GP! Could you please give me your top 3 Disney princess Christine's? For me: Caitlin Finnie, Anna O'Byrne, Gina Beck. Thank you!
I guess this is where I betray that I'm not much of a Disney fan (or is too much?), when I ask... how are we defining a Disney princess?
Are we going vocally and if so, what kind of vocals?
Operatic with a sweet undertone? Then Amy Manford, Joke de Kruijf, and Rebecca Caine.
Maybe we want to go a little more modern, a little less vibrato, but still classical. Then Valerie Link, Lily Kerhoas, and Caitlin Finnie.
Or how about just kind of squeaky: Robyn North, Maria Coyne, and... Meredith Braun, there's so many of them.
What if some belting is involved? Leila Benn Harris, Chumisa Dornford-May, and Katie Hall.
Or maybe they're just secretly a mezzo... looking at you, Nicky Adams, Katie Knight Adams, and... I'll just go for it, Emmy Rossum.
Or are we going with their demeanor?
The classically feminine, demure, gentle ladies: Patti Cohenour, Lucy St Louis, and Gina Beck.
The intuitive, observant, brainier girls of the Renaissance era: Alison Kelly, Jennifer Hope Wills, and Rachel Barrell.
The fearless, strong-willed, modern, "I am not defined by a man" princesses of today: Meghan Picerno, Kaley Ann Voorhees, and Celinde Schoenmaker.
The sweet, innocent, joyful women that fit into any period: Kim So Hyun, Yang Chenxiuyi, and Holly-Anne Hull.
So what's your pick?

Ohhhh it's canon?
Ohhhh traveling on moonbeams very magic girl vibes.
Lol insuferably handsome. 😂
Why are all Garrett's character a little less than 6 feet?
Why does a werewolf need a two handed sword?
They all have a lot of titles, I cannot remember them all. I do wanna know what they all mean though.
Noooooo 😂😂😂 not a werewolf named Jacob and then Jacob braun instead of black. Stop right now 😂😂😂that is too funny.
Shadowlord? And a gauntlet? Edgy and badass I love it!
Werewolves have a king?
Orangy spongy flesh??? Oh no!!!! This is bad. 😬
I love sibling relationships.
This is kind of different from Dan and Jesse. It just proves I really know nothing about all of this. I'm sure there's all kinds of hints to lore that are going completely over my head. 😂
Wait what??? She is 12????? And has only spoken for 5 years? That is wild. Did we know that she was so young? Was this said at the introduction and I just totally missed it? She's a little kid!
What the heck are all these rights??
Noooooooooo not Zantosa??? Not again. Will he always torment us??? 😭
Rebecca, the most polite power gamer there has ever been.
Okay what's the deal with this worm stuff??
That's gotta be Ramirez and one of the other hunters
Omg garbage pizza!!!
Is this Sheila? I hate that I don't know the name.
Omg what Ramirez's daughter??? Wtf???? Now I'm even sadder Ramirez is dead.
These people are so serious. Which kind of make sense since they're facing the end of the world and all that. But I've been listening to Ashville and those guys are a bunch of silly billies.
So wait if these werewolves kill the hell house shit that would be really helpful.
Eeeeewswww Lex stop!!! Why is hell house so grossssssss????? 🤮🤮🤮
Okay but a vampire with silver claws that hurt himself, that's badass.
They've hardly even started and it's already going bad and So So gross!!
Wait what she will die???? Thank fuck for 3 successes!!
Nico is such a cute nickname.
No matter the system, hearing they can roll 18 dice damage is always such a rush.
Strength 16?? Wtf? 25 dice? That's insane, it might be illegal.
Tim going all put describing how badass his attack is and what happens and then ending with "I assume" is very endearing.
Don't describe Jacob as a bulge in an intestine so casually!
Even though I am enjoying this oneshot greatly I don't know if I can relisten to it. There's just so much gross description. Though it probably doesn't help that I'm now listening to this early in the morning before having eaten breakfast.
Ohhh interesting, I know we already knew about the eldest, but it's still interesting to get confirmation from the source.
Home wrecker lmao.

Character ask: The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber musical)
Tagged by anonymous
These answers are for the musical character only, because I haven't read Gaston Leroux's book yet.
Favorite thing about them: His poetic, musical spirit, his array of skills and the fascinating use to which he puts them, the tragedy of his life story which earns our pity without excusing his worst actions, and his ultimate redemption by letting Christine go.
Least favorite thing about them: Nothing much. Just that he murders two men, terrorizes the opera house, is controlling and possessive toward the woman he loves, kidnaps her, and threatens to kill the man she loves if she refuses to be his. That's all.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I love music.
*I feel insecure about my looks.
*I can be passionate – although I don't kidnap my crushes or strangle people when I'm angry.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I have a loving family.
*I'm not a genius in multiple artistic fields.
*I'm not deformed.
Favorite line: The lyrics to "The Music of the Night."
brOTP: Madame Giry, especially in the film version where she saved his life and brought him to the opera house years earlier. In crossover-land, I'd like to see him meet Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, because they have a fair amount in common (although I admit I like Heathcliff better).
OTP: Emotional healing.
nOTP: Christine – sorry, phans.
Random headcanon: While like most opera lovers, he was introduced to the legend of Don Juan through Mozart's Don Giovanni, he's also well-versed in earlier versions of the story, since his array of talents includes "scholar" as well as musician, architect, and inventor. That's why in his opera Don Juan Triumphant, he called the Zerlina-like character "Aminta," since that was her name in the original play by Tirso de Molina. No word on why he named the Catalinón/Leporello character "Passarino," though.
Unpopular opinion: He's not a romantic hero. He's an antagonist. A tragic, sympathetic one, not to mention charismatic and compelling, but an antagonist just the same. Christine doesn't belong with him, and he redeems himself in the end by letting her go with the man she does belong with. Love Never Dies will never be canon to me.
Song I associate with them:

"The Music of the Night"

Favorite pictures of them:
Michael Crawford:
Tumblr media
Colm Wilkinson, with Rebecca Caine as Christine (hard to believe they did this after playing father and daughter in Les Misérables!):
Tumblr media
Howard McGillin (a.k.a. the voice of Prince Derek in that childhood favorite of mine, The Swan Princess):
Tumblr media
Davis Gaines (the first Phantom I ever saw onstage at age ten, as well as the singing voice of the Chamberlain in the above-mentioned Swan Princess):
Tumblr media
Hugh Panaro:

Thomas James O'Leary:

Mike Sterling, with Meredith Braun (a.k.a. Belle in The Muppet Christmas Carol) as Christine:

John Owen Jones, with Celinde Schoenmaker as Christine:

Ramin Karimloo:

Gerard Butler in the film version:

Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/3LC2zpf
Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/4bZdiVk
Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/3Sl86Eh
ROUGE
Link affiliato:https://amzn.to/3WAdztw
L'ULTIMO VIAGGIO DI LENIN, Francesco Pala
Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/3zP2Cva
Trama: Autunno 1942, Siberia.
I SANTI MOSTRI, Ade Zeno
Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/4ddLcqB
Link affiliato: https://amzn.to/3LCDw5m

An hour later, Hannelore called a friend from home and told her about the man she met in the café in the morning. Furthermore, she wants to meet him in the evening to listen to a lecture. To this end, she wanted to visit her usual round of bowling later that evening.
