Hit the Road to Kalipur Eco Village
Ecotourism is giving a new face to Indian tourism. Ecologically sustainable and nature-based tourism focuses on the economic benefit of the local people. Kalipur Eco Village is one such instance of ecotourism, also known as Gorumara Eco Village. Located in Lataguri, inside the Gorumara National Park, Kalipur Eco Village is maintained by the Forest Department officials of Jalpaiguri Division II. You can reach the resort either from Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Station, and the rest of the route has to be covered by road.

Tumblr media
The subtropical forest filled with wilderness encloses the Kalipur Eco Village. There are four hut-shaped cottages constructed on concrete stilts and all of them are well furnished with attached bathrooms and all the necessary amenities. Mouth-watering meals are also served in these bungalows, thereby smoothening the stay in the property. The peak season of tourism in Gorumara starts from mid-October to mid-March. Therefore experiencing a stay in the cottages of Kalipur Eco Village requires compulsory prior booking.
Coming to what are the engagements to indulge in -
Going for an elephant safari gives an opportunity to experience the exotic wilderness of Gorumara National Park in its natural habitat. You can also go for a jeep safari in the mornings. And in the evenings enjoy the enthralling tribal performances by the local residents.
If you are choosing to stay at Kalipur Eco Village, you should also get acquainted with Gorumara National Park.
To start with, there are about 50 species of mammals, 22 species of reptiles, 7 species of turtles, 193 species of avifauna, 27 species of fish, and many more in the greenwoods of Gorumara. The national park is closed during the monsoons, from mid of June and is reopened in the middle of September. Gorumara was declared a wildlife sanctuary and then a national park in 1949 and 1992 respectively. The national park has gained fame for being the abode of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. There are 5 watch towers placed on 5 corners of the park for the visitors to enjoy the sight of wilderness from a safe distance. Whispers in the Wind: A Terrifying Tale from Kalimpong..
It was not a planned trip. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision to take a long solo drive. I had no idea what to expect, but the thought of getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life was too tempting to resist. I hopped in my car and started the long drive to Siliguri. The roads were bumpy, but the scenic views after I took the Sevok Road made it all worth it. From there, I took the road to Kalimpong, not entirely sure where it would lead me. The road was winding and steep, but the breathtaking views of the rolling hills and lush greenery kept me going. As I drove deeper into the mountains, I couldn't help but feel a sense of adventure and excitement.
Finally, I arrived at the resort, which I booked on the way; exhausted but elated at the prospect of staying in such a serene place. The resort was nestled in the lap of the mountain, surrounded by big mountain trees, bushes, and orchids.
As I checked in to my single cottage and mesmerized by the mystical aura of the place. The room was adorned with antique furniture and had a cozy bed that looked inviting. Glass windows that offered a breathtaking view of the mountains. The cottage also had a balcony where I could sit and admire the beauty of nature. It was the perfect place to unwind and take in the serene atmosphere. But what caught my attention was, there were some old black and white photographs on the wall. They were hard to ignore, and my eyes were drawn to them. I opened the glass windows and cool mountain air filled the room.
As the night descended upon the resort, I decided to have my dinner and retire to my room. The moon was shining brightly, casting a silver glow across the mountains. When I entered the room, as soon as my foot touches the wooden floor, it was like, I could feel the air change. And to make things worse, it was completely dark because of the power cutoff. So now I am navigating through this room with just a candlelight. And I am not sure if this was all just happening in my head. But I just didn't feel right being in that room. I tried to ignore and settled in for the night. But as I lay in my bed, my eyes were again drawn to those photographs on the wall. Those seemed to come alive. The photographs depicted people who looked like they had been dead for centuries. They were all posed in different positions, but their expressions were the same- terror and agony. I could see the pain in their eyes, and it felt like they were staring straight into my soul. Goose bumps broke out all over my body. My stomach just felt like it was sinking. And I was filled with this inexplicable feeling of dread. The longer I looked at the photographs, the more the feeling of dread intensified. I quickly looked away, but the feeling of being watched stayed with me, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I am not alone in this room. I don't know when I fell asleep, suddenly, I woke up from a loud banging sound on the glass window. Flame of the candle was flickering. I tried to get off from the bed to figure out and not a second later, I heard a loud voice screaming, "Get out!" "Get out!" "Get out!" over and over again. I could clearly see, the faces in the photographs were twisted in agony, as if they were in great pain and screaming at me.
I tried to run, but my legs couldn't move, and felt like I am completely paralyzed!
Suddenly, everything went black.
The next morning, I woke up with severe body pain. I tried to remember things happened with me last night. I was perplexed by the incident. And it defies all logical explanation except a nightmare!! I was into a realm of both, reality and imagination.
But I know many of you will reject the truth when you cannot accept it. I alone left to discern what to believe!
