Ladies in Oregon Be careful
EDT / Updated June 5, 2023, 2:37 PM EDT
By Deon J. Hampton
Six women have been found dead in less than three months in secluded, wooded areas in the Portland, Oregon, region, but law enforcement authorities said they have not found any evidence that the cases are linked.
The women's bodies were found within 100 miles of one another, the Portland Police Bureau said in a news release over the weekend. Police have not determined whether they were all homicide victims, but they were all under age 40.
Although news of the deaths was widely circulated on social media, the Portland Police Bureau said there was no reason to believe the deaths were connected.
“These discussions have led to some anxiety and fear in our community, and we want to provide reassurance that the speculation is not supported by the facts available at this point,” the department said in the statement.
The body of Kristin Smith, 22, was discovered on Feb. 19 in southeast Portland. Police said her cause of death has not been determined.
Tumblr media
JoAnna Speaks, 32, was found dead on April 8 inside a barn at an abandoned property in Ridgefield, Washington, about 22 miles north of Portland, authorities said. She died of blunt-force trauma to her neck and head, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner.
Charity Lynn Perry, 24, was found in a culvert by the East Historic Columbia River Highway in Multnomah County on April 24, said Deputy John Plock, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
The same day, an unidentified woman was found dead inside a tent in Portland, police said, adding she may have been Indigenous, and there were no signs of foul play.
Bridget Webster, 31, was discovered on a rural road in Polk County on April 30, and Ashley Real, 22, was found in a wooded area on May 7.
“It’s just so heartbreaking, and it’s really hard to put into words,” Robyn Speaks, JoAnna Speaks' sister, told NBC affiliate KGW of Portland. “It’s kind of hitting us more that it’s real, and we keep seeing on the news all these new girls.”
JoAnna Speak's stepsister Ariel Hamby said in an interview with “NBC Nightly News” that she was horrified and heartbroken.
“She was an amazing sister and wonderful daughter and a fantastic mother,” Hamby said. “This isn’t just about my sister anymore even if it’s not one person doing this."
Webster's stepgrandfather, who would provide only his first name, Tom, because he said he has been inundated with phone calls about the women, said he raised Webster "until she left when she was a freshman in high school."
“She was a good girl until I lost contact with her years ago,” Tom said, adding that he changed her diapers and taught her how to play basketball.
Multiple police and sheriff's departments are investigating the cases, and the Portland Police Bureau said it was also working with the county and state medical examiner's offices.
“One of the main things that they are going to be looking at is the manner of death and the weapon," Bryanna Fox, a former FBI special agent, told “NBC Nightly News.” "If that’s consistent across all of these victims, then that will be a huge point.”

i genuinely still can’t believe that matthew perry has died. it’s been 10 days and it still doesn’t seem real. of all the celebrity deaths that happen, i don’t think there’s been one that’s hit me as hard as this one. this man deserved the WORLD. he deserved to have a long life with a wife he loved and children of his own, he deserved to not be controlled by addiction. he fought his entire life, he made people laugh when he himself was struggling the most. not only was he the reason that chandler bing was the best character in one of the most popular shows of all time, he helped SO MANY people. he created the perry house, he helped others who were affected by addiction. he raised money for addiction awareness charities. this man did so much in his life that was devastatingly cut short. i hope that wherever he is, he’s at peace. rest easy matty, you deserved so much more than life gave you. you were so beautiful and you did not seem to see it. you were the funniest person in every room you walked into. you’ve been in my living room pretty much every day that i can remember, that familiar laughter blaring through the television speakers, from a crowd that adored your every word. watching friends will never be the same, seeing your name and your face will forever be bittersweet. it’s so unfair that you suffered so much and for so long. god bless you matty, you made me smile at times where i never thought i could.🫶🕊️

Jay-Z Calls Gov. Walz To Demand Justice For George Floyd, Attorney General Keith Ellison Takes Over Case + Don Lemon Calls Out Oprah, Drake & More To Take Action!
Tumblr media
Jay-Z called up Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to demand justice for George Floyd. Following their conversation, Gov. Walz announced attorney general Keith Ellison (a black man) will now take over the case. Also, CNN’s Don Lemon called out Oprah, Drake, Tyler Perry & more to take action amid the nationwide protests. Everything inside…
Jay-Z is using his resources and platform to make change.
Yesterday, the Hip Hop mogul had a phone conversation with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to demand justice for the killing of George Floyd, the Minneapolis man the world watch die in a viral video where a white police officer – Derek Chauvin – kneeled down on his neck. New video showed at least three officers had their body weight pressed on George’s back as he laid face down on the ground while in handcuffs.
Posting memes and bringing awareness to the issue are great, however, actually using your resources to make change is even better.
Hov called up Gov. Walz after getting his number from CNN reporter/ REFORM Alliance CEO Van Jones. He wanted to talk to the Governor to share how he felt about the George Floyd killing and how justice could be served.
“It was so incredibly human,” Walz said about their coversation during a press conference yesterday. “It wasn’t Jay-Z, international celebrity. It was a dad and, I think quite honestly, a black man whose visceral pain of this that he knew.”
“His words to me, I want them to be confidential, but to summarize what it was: ‘Justice needs to be served, here. Justice needs to be served,” he continued. “He said he feels the compassion and the humanity of these folks who are speaking. He knows that the world is watching. How Minnesota handles this is going to have an impact across the country, and I think that’s what his impressions were.”
You can check it out below at the 43:40-minute mark:
youtube
Following their conversation, Gov. Walz appointed Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case. As of now, only one (former) Minneapolis police officer has been brought up on charges. Former officer Derek Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, both felonies. The other three former police officers - Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng - were fired like Derek, but have NOT been brought up on charges.
  Thank you, Governor. https://t.co/saIgpXxXKt
— Attorney General Keith Ellison (@AGEllison) June 1, 2020
Sunday evening, Hov released a statement via Roc Nation about his conversation with Gov. Walz, thanking him for appointing Keith Ellison to the case.

— Roc Nation (@RocNation) June 1, 2020
“After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Governor Walz for doing what’s right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case,” he wrote.
The dad-of-three then opened up about his feelings on the killing of George Floyd.
“Earlier today, Governor Walz mentioned having a human conversation with me — a dad and a black man in pain. YES, I am human, a father and a black man in pain and I am not the only one. Now I, along with an entire country in pain, call upon AG Ellison to do the right thing and prosecute all those responsible for the murder of George Floyd to the fullest extent of the law. This is just a first step. I am more determined to fight for justice than any fight my would-be oppressors may have."
Jay-Z then made a call to action for everyone to DO THE RIGHT THING.
“I prevail on every politician, prosecutor and officer in the country to have the courage to do what is right,” he concluded. “Have the courage to look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters and mothers in pain and look at yourselves.”
Last Friday, Jay-Z's wife, Beyoncé, posted a video on Instagram demanding justice in the wake of George's death. Check it out https://theybf.com/2020/05/30/beyonc%C3%A9-speaks-up-after-derek-chauvin... ">HERE.

Several celebs have hit the streets in Minneapolis - like Nick Cannon & Porsha Williams - to protest with the people demanding justice for George Floyd. However, some celebrities aren't doing enough...at least not for CNN's Don Lemon.
During his segment yesterday, Don called out A-list celebs like Oprah, Tyler Perry, Drake, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson, Diddy, Jane Fonda and Ellen DeGeneres to take MORE action. With footage of protests playing on a split screen, Don called out "movie stars" who declined to speak on his show. He blamed their absence on them being too concerned about tarnishing their brand.
"A lot of people I ask to come on this show, to talk about this, [such as] wealthy celebrities, wealthy political people, [say], ‘I can’t do it. I’m mad. I don’t want people to see me mad. It might hurt my business. Or, I’m so upset that I had to go to my country house and I just can't do it,'” Don said. “Where are you? Why aren’t you fighting for these young people? If you don’t do it now, when are you going to do it? If you are a millionaire or a gazillionare or a movie star or a politician and you don't step up now, when the hell are you going to do it? STOP making excuses! Step up people. Step up Black Hollywood."
The CNN anchor then began to name drop:
https://theybf.com/2020/05/30/beyonc%C3%A9-speaks-up-after-derek-chauvin... ">"Beyoncé released a message, you can’t?," he asked.
“By me calling out your name, it doesn’t mean I’m calling you out. It means I love you, Ellen [DeGeneres]. It means I love you, Oprah,” he said, adding “I know they give millions of dollars to charity every year.”
“I want to see you Tracee Ellis Ross. I want to see you Tyler Perry. I want to see you Drake," he continued. "I want to see you my friend, Anthony Anderson. I love you … I want to see Diddy out there. I want to see you Jane Fonda, who I love and respect."
Whew! Peep the segment above.

But this week, the nation is in a state of rightful unrest after we witnessed the murder of George Floyd right in front of our eyes. Holly, Ivy, Mistletoe, and Other Christmas Greens
By Susan Anthony
Tumblr media
Holly, ivy, and mistletoe are common additions to our Christmas decor.  Read on to learn more about the very interesting meanings some of these traditional greens have.
The Romans first, and later the Christians, began to deck their halls with boughs of holly as it was believed to have protective powers.  Dr. Leonard Perry explains the traditional use of greens at Christmas time in his article “Holiday Greens and Their Traditions.” He said, “Holly was often hung on doors to chase away evil spirits, or else to catch them with their prickly leaves.  The Romans also considered holly sacred, a good omen, representing immortality, and sheltering elves and faeries. This latter belief may have come even earlier from the Teutonic tribes to the north.  Romans gave holly as gifts during the festival of Saturnalia– a week-long party based partly on earlier Greek and Egyptian solstice festivals.
The early Christians in Rome decorated their homes with holly as well, and it gradually became a Christmas symbol as Christianity became the main religion.  To the Christians, the holly with its prickly leaves represented the crown of thorns on Jesus, and their red berries the blood he shed.” (Perry, 2019)
Commenting on ivy, Perry said, “The song “The Holly and the Ivy” has its roots in an English tradition from the Middle Ages.  The soft ivy was twined around the more prickly holly in arrangements.  Not only was this for aesthetic purposes, but also the holly symbolized males and the ivy females, and their combination represented a good-natured rivalry between the two.
The use of ivy as a decoration once again dates back to Roman times, when it became associated with Bacchus–the god of good times and revelry.  It symbolized prosperity and charity, and so for early Christians, it was used during Christmas– a time to celebrate good times and to provide for the less fortunate.  If ivy was growing on the outside of houses, it was thought to prevent misfortune.  If it died, though, this was a sign of approaching financial problems.”
Perry goes on to explain that “Mistletoe occupies a fascinating place in the folklore of many early cultures, especially those of northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. A botanical curiosity, mistletoe is the only complete plant that is a true parasite, often killing the hardwood tree it infests.  For this reason, it was credited with magical properties by ancient societies and held sacred.”
The Druids associated mistletoe with luck and good fortune and used it in their winter solstice celebrations and ceremonies. One ceremony involved Druid priests climbing into trees, cutting the mistletoe and letting it fall to the people below. If the mistletoe hit the ground, it would bring bad luck. It was believed that catching it would ensure fertility for the animals. One can only imagine the scene below as robe-clad people scurried around to catch the falling mistletoe.
“In ancient Scandinavia, mistletoe was believed to symbolize peace.  If enemies happened to meet under trees with mistletoe, they would disarm and call a truce for the day.  With our images of rough Norse soldiers, this paints an interesting and seemingly unlikely picture!” (Perry, 2019)
Perry states that “Mistletoe also grows in the warmer climates, and was used as medicine by the Native Americans.  Also known as “allheal,” it was used to treat dog bites, toothache and measles.” He goes on to explain where the custom of kissing under mistletoe comes from. “Many believe it is an English custom, which dictates that after each kiss, one of its white berries must be plucked from the bunch and discarded.  When the berries are all gone, the kissing must stop.”  Mistletoe bunches with the most berries must have been eagerly sought after by young men and women.
The custom of kissing under mistletoe dates back much further though, once again to Scandinavian mythology, Dr. Perry claims. “An arrow made of mistletoe killed Balder, the son of Frigga who was the Norse goddess of love.  Her tears, falling on the mistletoe, turned into white berries.  In her sorrow she decreed that mistletoe would never again be used for death, but rather for love. Whomever should stand beneath it should receive a kiss.”
Regarding the use of evergreen branches, Perry says that “It was perhaps during the Victorian era in America that the fir and pine we commonly use today became popular.  These, together with hemlock, yew, bay, and the more historic greens, were made into lavish arrangements.  Another tradition of the 19th century was to use these to form wreaths, stars, and crosses to decorate graves at Christmas.  These greens were later brought home to enjoy through the rest of the winter, just as we do now during the holidays.”
“Rosemary is another plant with extensive holiday traditions, symbolism, and legends. Associated with remembrance, friendship, and fidelity, rosemary was used extensively during the Medieval Period. An altar decorated with rosemary ensured special blessings and protection to the worshipers. Floors of churches and homes were strewn with the herb. The traditional boar’s head for the Christmas feast was decorated with rosemary.” (“Holiday Legends,” 2003)  And there is also the legend that when Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were fleeing Egypt, Mary placed her blue cloak on a rosemary bush and the flowers turned from white to blue.
I hope these stories will add to your enjoyment of the Christmas holidays.

NEPTUNE STATIONS DIRECT~OUT OF CHAOS EMERGES CLARITY
NEPTUNE STATIONS DIRECT~OUT OF CHAOS EMERGES CLARITY
By Sheri-Horn Hasan
Neptune, the second slowest moving planet in our solar system, takes nearly 165 years to complete a full orbit through the zodiac. Invisible to the naked eye until observed by telescope September 23, 1846, Neptune is the only planet in our solar system discovered through mathematical prediction rather than via empirical observation.
This belief that Neptune existed—based on French astronomer Alexis Bouvard’s deducing that an unknown planet was causing unexpected changes and gravitational disturbances in Uranus’s orbit—set the stage for our modern astrological “take” on Neptune and its meaning in our individual charts.
King of the oceans, the Roman Neptune (Greek Poseidon) rules primarily the seas and all other waterways, earthquakes, and horses.
Water shape shifts; it flows; such fluidity helps us all adjust, fill, buoy or, more negatively, drown. Ergo, Neptune’s not exactly a black and white kinda energy…
Often, water correlates to mood, intuition, sensitivity, and empathy. Represented by the ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves as the tide rises and recedes, Neptune’s indicative of a collectively eternal situation that calls for a certain amount of surrender in order to go with the natural flow…
Because of the shape-shifting nature associated with Neptune, often we may have difficulty with boundaries between ourselves and others, as well as with seeing emotional situations clearly.
Hence, Neptune correlates to the state of chaos–of not intuiting clearly if we’re up or down, emotional or rational, realistic or fantastical—you know, the kind of dilemma that often befuddles so many of us mere mortals here on planet Earth.
Neptune intuits, it doesn’t think, it has no opinion, as Jungian astrologer & artist Erin Sullivan points out in her book “Planetary Retrogrades.”
“It has moods, feelings, sensations, images, fantasies, nuances, hints and visions,” Sullivan explains. “It is redolent with insinuation.”
NEPTUNE’S LAST RETROGRADE
When Neptune last stationed retrograde back in , or appeared stop in the sky and move backward in June 19, at 18°43′ Pisces, this represented part of its annual planetary motion for approximately five months.
All planetary retrograde motion is actually an optical illusion. However, both ancient & modern astrologers recognize retrograde periods as times of internal withdrawal. When Neptune began its backstroke through the heavens, it was time to allow ourselves to go inward, into that liminal space, as Jungian astrologer Liz Greene would say, and allow ourselves to dream.
Neptune retrogrades affect us all on a subtle level because Neptune is defined in modern astrology as an “unconscious” planet. Its retrograde periods allow us to withdraw by obscuring the boundaries between the “real” and “imagined.”
It’s here, in this liminal space, that our dreams arise out of unconscious desires rather than rational ones.
However, because Neptune’s energies are not initially discernible (read: not conscious), its effects are both more subtle and longer term. Thoughts, beliefs, or behaviors may come without a fully rational explanation or concrete understanding of the “why” behind them during Neptune’s retrograde period.
YOUR NEPTUNE STORY
As the planet of illusion, confusion, & delusion, Neptune’s retrograde—through whatever house in your chart–tells us where you may be, shall we say, a little less reality-based, and a little more prone to ignore or transgress emotional boundaries.
Neptune’s location in your birth chart by sign, house, and aspect, also tells us where you may be, to put it more bluntly, a little more delusional. The degree to which this influences your life will vary, depending on how your soul chooses to both perceive and manifest your natal Neptune energy into the world around you…
I like to use the word “devotion” when describing the energy of Neptune, because I find it to be the planet that connects us to our own individual sense of what’s worth surrendering for (or to) based on the rest of our natal energies.
In the 7th House of partnership, for example, it might be devotion to relationships; in the 2nd House to a sense of one’s values. Devotion would be defined in either realm through both a more romantic, spiritual, and/or charitable mindset.
This is not by far the only way to interpret Neptune natally in these houses, I’m simply using them as examples…in addition, having Neptune in configuration with other planets in one’s chart can cause one to manifest certain patterns of “Neptunian” behavior in the outside, objective, empirical, ego-oriented world.
The question, as always with Neptune, is are our perceptions based on reality?
TIME TO TAKE OFF THOSE ROSE-COLORED GLASSES!
Just as organic life emerged long ago out of the chaotic “soup” mixture of non-living inorganic molecules through some form of physical and chemical reactions between water and matter, so does Neptune’s movement from retrograde to direct motion allow us to flow from chaos to clarity.
In a sense, Neptune’s retrograde period is often a chaotic one because we’re asked to right brain it, visualize, believe in the psychic and spiritual world without requiring (or demanding!) empirical proof that either one exists.
Neptune direct is a time to draw back the curtain, pierce the veil, and generally let in the light of day so we may see clearly once again. But that’s only if we’re willing to wake up, take off our rose-colored glasses, and look at both ourselves and the world around us from a new and different perspective…
This is the only way to bridge the gap between what formerly seemed “real,” but isn’t. This is the only way to integrate the energies of the subconscious into the conscious brain and to move forward in holy matrimony of these two, with peace everlasting, until death you do part…
GROUNDING OUR DREAMS
Now that he’s stationing direct again—meaning he’s moving forward in the sky rather than appearing to swim backward—Neptune calls us all to move forward and ground what we’ve been dreaming about into concrete manifest reality.
What helps us to ground our dream?
Understanding that we are capable of achieving anything we want in this lifetime, and evaluating how much of the things we want to accomplish out in the world are driven by unrealistic attitudes or unfounded suppositions.
Saturn in Capricorn allows us to see that what we’ve dreamt about from a more realistic lens then while Neptune was retrograde. This is an extremely grounding energy.
And, while Saturn in Capricorn may be quick to dismiss our ideas as pure fantastical thinking, we all know that the seeds of reality (read: clarity, discernment) lie in chaos.
Those who don’t distinguish between the retrograde and direct motion may move forward attempting to ground dreams, but lacking the ability to do so. But if we use his energies wisely, Saturn in Capricorn will test our hypothesis and tell us what is concretely possible.
However, Saturn in Capricorn can also bring us down, down, down, which is not a place we want to go. The shock of our incapability to manifest our more Neptunian dreams in the real world will be proportionately equal to how unrealistic these dreams were in the first place. That’s how the universe rolls, as always it seeks balance…
I’m mindful of Katy Perry’s lyrics from her song “Wide Awake”:
“Falling from cloud nine Crashing from the high I’m letting go tonight Yeah, I’m letting go tonight…
Gravity hurts You made it to sweet Till I woke up On the concrete…”
Neptune’s retrograde periods are about assisting us to bridge the gap between romance, illusion, fantasy, and our psychic and more spiritual orientations (read: less egoic, less belief system oriented.)
So, the question becomes: do we allow ourselves to entertain the practical, useful, physical, tangible, concrete methods of grounding a dream that might have seemed grandiose or impossible or wildly unrealistic when in the Neptune retrograde period?
We may now discover ultimately that what we thought a person or situation was about is far removed from the actual factuality of their situation.
I CAN DREAM, CAN’T I?
The key held by Neptune is that it allows us to lessen the gap between complete fantastical thinking and overly pessimistic or naysaying hardcore reality…
Nobody says not to dream. In fact, evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest would say that if you have Neptunian or Piscean energy anywhere in your chart—and we all do somewhere—that it’s necessary and beneficial to be allowed to dream…
However, as Neptune proceeds to move forward in the sky from now until June 21st 2019, we are all called to integrate whatever we’ve dreamt about—whether relationship, career, money, or anything else—during its last retrograde period.
That means we can all ask ourselves where we may have set out to save, conquer, or martyr ourselves for the sake of another or others, and/or otherwise sacrifice ourselves for a devotional purpose we felt was bigger than simply our more shallow, mundane, earth-bound world.
Now is the time to find a way to make our dreams come true by using sound judgment and rational–rather than fantastical–thinking in order to discern where adjustments now may be necessary to bring some of these wilder, more fantastical thoughts, plans, and dreams to fruition.
Namaste…

via Politics – FiveThirtyEight
There’s no question that Marianne Williamson is an atypical political candidate. As a motivational speaker and self-help author who hasn’t held political office before, she certainly has a nontraditional background. That’s one reason that she didn’t qualify as a “major” candidate by FiveThirtyEight’s standards1 until last week, even though she first announced she was forming an exploratory committee last November and formally kicked off her campaign on January 28. But communications director Patricia Ewing told FiveThirtyEight that the campaign sees the unusual nature of Williamson’s candidacy as a strength. “We’re different. We know that and we embrace that.”
Indeed, Williamson’s unconventional career has already given her a substantial following once, in the 1980s and ’90s. After dropping out of college in California, living in a commune in New Mexico, and singing at a cabaret in New York, Williamson found purpose when she began reading the New Age spiritual guidebook “A Course in Miracles.” She began to lecture on the book’s teachings in Los Angeles in 1983 and soon attracted a list of wealthy and influential friends and admirers, including Oprah Winfrey, Cher, Laura Dern and Elizabeth Taylor, whose final marriage she officiated. Williamson also founded the charities Project Angel Food and the Centers for Living to care for people with HIV, earning her a devoted following in the LGBT community. Her teachings reached a national audience through multiple appearances on Winfrey’s TV show, and seven of her 13 books made the New York Times best-seller list.
But although Williamson has never held elected office, she’s no stranger to left-wing activism. In 2004, she founded an organization that advocates for the U.S. government to establish a Department of Peace (that goal is also one of the policy planks in her 2020 platform); in the 2010s, she conducted a series of seminars meant to inspire more women to become politically engaged. And in 2014, she ran for California’s 33rd Congressional District as an independent, a campaign that hinted at her ability to leverage her celebrity connections: Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian attended fundraisers for her, and Alanis Morissette even wrote her campaign song. Although she finished fourth in the all-party primary, she raised an impressive $2.4 million, hired high-powered campaign staff and snagged the endorsements of politicos like former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and former Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich. In the 2016 Democratic primary, she was an early supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders.
As for Williamson’s 2020 operation, she has a campaign staff of 20 — “and growing,” her communications director said — including field directors in all four early primary states. She has already held 12 events in Iowa, and Ewing told FiveThirtyEight that Williamson has gone so far as to move there. The candidate has also held 22 events in New Hampshire, making her one of the state’s most frequent political tourists. An enthusiastic crowd of 2,000 supporters was on hand for her campaign announcement speech in California in January; watching the video of the speech leaves one with the impression that Williamson was giving self-help advice to the entire country — but also that, a rhetorician by trade, she is undeniably charismatic. She is a dyed-in-the-wool progressive, including advocating for reparations for slavery, a new hot topic in Democratic primaries but one that Williamson first advocated for 20 years ago in her book “Healing the Soul of America,” according to Ewing. Williamson’s policy planks also include ideas that have yet to catch on with the rest of the field, like creating a Cabinet-level Department of Children and Youth, which the campaign believes will appeal to parents.
But so far, her efforts haven’t yet translated into much success. Despite her Hollywood connections, she managed to raise just $1.5 million as of the end of the first quarter — not chump change, but it does put her toward the bottom of the list of serious contenders. Nor has she yet managed to clear the 65,000-donor threshold that would qualify her to participate in the first two Democratic primary debates, although according to her campaign website, she’s about 90 percent of the way there.2
And although her books have sold 3 million copies, her name recognition is among the lowest in the field. In a national poll conducted by Change Research in mid-April, 66 percent of likely Democratic voters had never heard of her; the same was true of 53 percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers in an early-April Monmouth poll of Iowa. Candidates with low name recognition can still have a shot at the nomination if they’re backed by a decent percentage of the people who have heard of them, but Williamson gets almost no support in horse-race surveys: She has gotten 0 percent support in 27 of the 35 polls in our database that have asked about her. And she is unlikely to become better known as long as cable news networks and newspapers continue to cover her far less often than the candidates with more traditional credentials.
Lack of experience in elected office is probably the biggest obstacle to Williamson’s campaign. In our analysis of 2018 primaries for Senate, House and governor, we found that candidates who had previously held elected office got significantly more votes in Democratic primaries — in fact, having held office gave candidates the biggest boost in vote share of any factor we looked at. And in all of U.S. history, only two major-party presidential nominees have had no political or military experience before winning their party’s primaries (although one of them was both very recent and very successful: President Trump3). But Trump’s secret to winning the GOP nomination in 2016 despite an apolitical background was the volume of free media coverage he received; it’s likely that Williamson will have a hard time pulling off a Trump-esque upset unless the chattering classes start chattering more about her campaign.

 PAGE RIB
***** Childish Gambino has the song of the summer with the brilliant ‘This is America’.  I am so reminded of Jean Luc Goddard and also the Talking Heads when I watch the video and yet it is so on point today. . Donald Glover is the star of the year with the fab season of Atlanta. The coat of many colors with the FUBU shirt episode was a beautiful reminder of thy child, thy self. The turn as host and musical guest on SNL was a triumph, best show of the season. His role in Ron Howard’s movie, Solo will only make him burn brighter!!
***** Arrested Development came back for season 5. We have wonderful things in there from seasons past to make us smile and new catchphrases to carry on in the future. This is just the first half of the season and the binge went by fast. We will have to be content with great new Arrested memories like APB (ah, poor Buster), hour mouth, peanut pockets, trophy cobbler, break up cactus, will he won’t he  and Strum! I laugh just thinking about them. I was particularly fond of the Howard family get together, Rance Howard was a national treasure. I was thrilled to see Kyle Mooney in the mix.
***** Days alert: I saw it coming.. Mexico?? Of course, Teresa had to be back.. Hooray!! ..It is time for Sonny’s new lover to go…. It is also time for John and Paul to get Shane and go get Chloe.. well, they did not get Shane but they got her. That was fast!!… Is Abby pregnant by Stefan??**We’ll miss ya Joseph Campanella.
***** Goodbye to The Americans!! Oh how I will miss ya.
***** Benedict Cumberbatch and Jennifer Jason Leigh have given us Patrick Melrose.
***** Well, Roseanne tweeted her racist rhetoric and got her show booted off ABC. If it can bring down Roseanne, we still may see it take down the President. It will cost the network plenty ( like 60 mil not counting the rerun revenue). Reruns were yanked by CMT, Paramount and TV Land. She was also dropped by her talent agency ICM partners. She blamed Ambien but the company issued a statement explaining that racism is not a side effect of Ambien.  I feel bad for the rest of the cast and crew but bye bye Roseanne!
***** I am hearing good things about Robin, the Robin Williams doc from Dave Itzkoff.
***** Ric Ocasek has separated from Paulina Porizkova.
***** What is this NFL no kneeling bullshit? I get that it is a business and we all have to adhere to our employer’s rules but it is very sad. How is that silent peaceful protest hurting anyone? Who needs football anyway? C’mon, America, no more football!! Some believe free speech is only for them.
***** The latest accused of sexual misconduct: Morgan Freeman** Weinstein has been indicted!!!!!
***** New money got its chance to buy a piece of old money at the Rockefeller auction at Christie’s. The private collection broke records with a take of $832 million which will go to charity.
***** TV cancelled shows all over the place. The list includes Designated Survivor, Kevin Can Wait, Scorpion, 9JKL, Alex Inc., Deception, Taken, Rise, Great News, Me Myself and I, Quantico, The Mayor and The Exorcist. Last Man Standing will move to Fox, Project Runway will move to Bravo and Brooklyn 99 will move to NBC. There should be more of this moving.. C’mon somebody take Last man on Earth and Me , Myself and I. LA to Vegas is on the bubble, please keep that one going.
***** The podcast Cocaine and Rhinestones with Tyler Mahan Coe sounds interesting.
***** Sears has not made a profit since 2010. They are closing hundreds more stores this year.
***** Who do you think you are? Is back with Molly Shannon, Jean Smart, Jon Cryer, Hillary Duff, Megan Mullally and Laverne Cox.
***** Can’t wait to see the new doc  The gospel according to Andre’ about Andre’ Leon Talley.
***** Black Rhinos have returned to Chad. Fifty years ago poaching had wiped them out.
***** Lung cancer is a trend with more women than men being diagnosed. It has become more common than breast or ovarian cancer.
***** The interior department wants to end the ban on hunting black bears, wolves and coyotes and their young.
***** Before the 2016 election the FBI had a codename for their Russian interference investigation: Crossfire Hurricane. The Stones have a little touch on everything.
***** Oliver North is the new face of the NRA.
***** Word is that over a 30 year period, there have been 27 complaints against Charlie Rose.. Ugh!** The Kennedy Center Honors has rescinded the Honors award and the Mark Twain prize from Bill Cosby.
***** Iowa has made the strictest abortion laws. They want no abortions once the heartbeat can be detected. The American civil liberties union and Planned Parenthood have filed complaints.
***** Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The press was telling us that 2 people fell in love and we all showed up. This actually did seem to bring people together. Harry and Meghan are 17th cousins.
***** Great to see Joel Mchale back to his green screen zaniness. It seems like old times on Netflix and with a little help from Jim Rash and Alison Brie.
***** There seems to have been some shading from the government on the actual death toll in Puerto Rico. Hurricane Maria has an official tally of 64 dead but estimates are saying that it could be 70 times higher. Most deaths happened after the actual threat and could have been prevented. How many people have to suffer or die before we get these clowns out of office?
***** Scary clown is in the habit of pardoning whoever he pleases. Why the hell would anybdy want to pardon Rod Blagojevich?
***** The 71st Cannes film fest has honored Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, Nadine Labaki’s Capernaum and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters.
***** The Boys in the Band has been restaged starring Tuc Watkins, Zachary Quinto and Jim Parsons.
***** It seems the Black Cube operatives who worked for Weinstein have been trying to get dirt on former Obama administration officials and their spouses. Guess who set that in motion?
***** Cigna and Blue Cross Blue Shield say that policies advocated by the Trump administration and the repeal of Obama care would raise their rates up to 64%.
***** The Met gala had some fab fashion with a theme of Heavenly bodies/Catholic imagination. The best dressed according to me were Lily Collins, Zoe Kravitz, Frances McDormand, Mindy Kaling, Rosie Huntington Whitely, Arianna Grande, Amal Clooney, Gigi Hadid, Rita Ora, Donatella, JLo, Tiffany Haddish, Scarlett Johansen, Janelle Monae, Blake Lively, Gabrielle Union, Liu Wen, Sienna Miller, Emilia Clark, Miley Cyrus, Virgil Abloh, Emily Ratajkowski, Stephen Colbert, Cynthia Erivo, Mary J. ***** The new slogan from our first lady: Be Best

***** The Tony nominations are out with Mean Girls, Sponge Bob square pants, Angels in America, The Band’s visit, Carousel, My Fair Lady and Harry Potter and the cursed child leading the pack.
***** John McCain has a memoir and will retire soon. He and his family are also riding out the heartless comments that came from the White House who seem pleased that he may die sooner rather than later.
***** It’s stripe season. I have never seen people wear so many stripes.
***** R.I.P. Allan D. Smith,  Anne V. Coates, Scott Hutchison, Big T, Kristin Harmon Nelson, Peter Mayer, Margot Kidder, Clint Walker, Patricia Morison, Philip Roth, Tom Wolfe, John Bain, Joseph Campanella and Paul Bloch.
