Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The castle construction began in the 12th century with St. Margaret’s Chapel. Built on an extinct volcanic mountain, it is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. The structure served as a military stronghold and a Royal residence, while parts remain in military use. Throughout its history, the castle suffered many sieges and changed hands numerous times. The castle is the most besieged place in Britain. The castle’s defenses evolved over time, with a Half Moon Battery built after a siege in 1573, armed with bronze guns known as the Seven Sisters, while more guns defended the Argyle Battery. Edinburgh Castle was home to many kings and queens. Queen Margaret, who was later made a saint, died there in 1093. The Great Hall was completed in 1511 for King James IV to host banquets and events. Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to her son James VI in 1566, and he became king of Scotland at 13 months old and united the crowns of England and Scotland in 1603. No one lives at the castle. Since the 17thcentury, it’s been used as a military base. Over 600 soldiers were housed in the New Barracks during the Napoleonic Wars with France, while hundreds of prisoners were locked in the vaults. The oldest Crown jewels in Britain are on display in the Crown Room. The castle is open to the public and has a tea room and a café.

Dunnottar Castle, "fort on the shelving slope" is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-eastern coast of Scotland, about 2 miles (3 kilometers) south of Stonehaven. The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages. Dunnottar has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland through to the 18th-century Jacobite risings because of its strategic location and defensive strength.
Dunnottar is best known as the place where the Honours of Scotland, the Scottish crown jewels, were hidden from Oliver Cromwell's invading army in the 17th century. The property of the Keiths from the 14th century, and the seat of the Earl Marischal, Dunnottar declined after the last Earl forfeited his titles by taking part in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The castle was restored in the 20th century and is now open to the public.
The ruins of the castle are spread over 1.4 hectares (3+1⁄2 acres), surrounded by steep cliffs that drop to the North Sea, 160 feet (50 meters) below. A narrow strip of land joins the headland to the mainland, along which a steep path leads up to the gatehouse. The various buildings within the castle include the 14th-century tower house as well as the 16th-century palace.

Sarre Royal Castle
Sarre Royal Castle is located in Sarre, Italy. Built in 1710 upon the ruins of a 13th century fortress, the three-story castle sits on a promontory overlooking the Aosta plain. In 1869, the property was purchased by the King of Italy, Victor Emanuel II. The property was renovated and modernized, the tower was raised, and new stables were constructed. The king used the private residence as a hunting lodge and headquarters for expeditions of the valleys. His successor King Umberto I, also used it as a hunting lodge and added many trophies. The interior boasts royal apartments, ornate salons, a trophy room, a second floor dedicated to the 20th century, statues, paintings, and portraits. In 1972, the castle passed into private hands, and by 1989 it was purchased by the Aosta Valley Region, who restored it, set up exhibitions, and turned it into a museum.
