I’ve now realized why my brain has latched on to Drowned God: conspiracy of the ages
it’s because it has the same aesthetic as the Rusty Lake series but instead of creepy flash animations it’s got janky 90s cgi (which I love)
proof:
-tarot card motif
-reincarnation
-occultism as a central theme
-fucked up guy with antlers
-fantasy with sci fi elements
-secret organizations
-nefarious conspiracies
-puzzles everywhere
-time travel
-various seemingly unrelated locations
-mystery horror game

Hello, Frost! Hope you’re enjoying your Saturday morning :)
Today’s questions aren’t about the Scorpion grass (surprising, I know):
1) Do you enjoy reading the classics? If so, what is your favourite book/books?
2) Have you ever played any indie games by Rusty Lake? If no, you should definitely try! They may have something similar to the universe of Scorpion Grass — I mean, they’re dark, weird (in a good way), illogical and even have some tarot symbolism (In the part called Rusty Lake: The Roots)
P. S.: Thank you for the last few chapters!!
Hello friend, i hope you're doing well!
1) I've never been very clear on what 'the classics' even are, honestly. I didn't read as many for school as I was supposed to because I was in the remedial english classes for most of it. that said. I did read and enjoy to kill a mockingbird. also the yellow wallpaper, which i didn't find until college and remains my favorite short story to date.
I'm not opposed to reading more classics, but i won't seek them out, either.
2) rusty lake!!!!!! ah it's such a compliment to be compared to them positively, thank you <3
i loved their games when i was younger! i played the samsara room first, then the cube escape games. i do not remember much about them because my brain is full of holes, but i know i enjoyed them. there's a good chance i pulled some unconscious inspiration from them.
if i had the capability to make a point and click game, scorpion grass would 100% be one. i love point and clicks.
thank you for the questions, and thank you for reading scorpion grass!

Okay so I know I’m probably the last to realize this, but here’s a typical Devil tarot card
Tumblr media
Notice the horned represetation of a “devil” or demon of some kind alongside the male and female slaves/captives/sinners.
And HERE is Albert

As a witch this makes me SO excited. Not only did they put tarot cards into Rusty Lake: Roots, but they put in the research to accurately represent the cards 😍

If I’m ever to attempt to draw a tarot deck or something among those line, it’s not gonna be in a month where I have to make 30 drawings on top of said deck #laketober
D’you remember when at the end of Cube Escape Paradox they revealed how the depths of Rusty Lake? I didn’t but wiki did. Obviously, it’s a bit more dark and abstract when it comes to the original scene, this feels a wee bit golden and restricted to pixelart, but it still feels like an awesome landscape to assume the Tarot card “The World” for :D

How can I buy some of your artwork?
Not entirely sure what you mean?
If you just mean physical copies I have these SCP Tarot: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/scp-tarot-cards
Or if you are a Rusty Lake fan, one of my art is in their merch (Fan art Black / White T-shirt).
If you mean commissions I no longer do those, sorry.

Pspspsps come get y’all’s tarot motifs!
• Magnolia - Six of Swords
Magnolia’s whole story is about change: from mortal to immortal, from human to enlightened, from a bored town girl without a clue of what to do with her life to the spying eyes of the ruler of the Lake. This change is difficult at first, but she slowly grows into it and starts a new stage in her life.
• Drika - Ten of Wands
After the woman they love takes her life following her son’s disappearance, a part of Drika’s heart dies with her. They devote their life to searching for the elixir of enlightenment, with the idea of becoming enlightened to ensure her beloved’s soul moves peacefully to the next life.
• The day - Death
The 20th of September, 1920, a young lady travels to the infamous Rusty Lake. While exploring a decrepit house, she stumbles upon a hidden basement, where a strange alchemist has just found what they’d spent their whole life looking for. But something goes awry, and the elixir causes its creator to crumble to the ground, only a ghostly silhouette remaining. The young lady tries to escape, but the ghost is faster: it knocks her to the ground and forces the remaining concoction down her throat.
She didn’t expect to even wake up, but she does. She seems to be still alive, and the ghost has fled. But something has changed forever.
