King Sean O'Carrick of Hibernia got off his horse at the courtyard of Castle Araluen. He was clean-shaven, his formerly black hair almost fully grey now. His son and daughter, along with his grandchildren, got off theirs right after him.
The old King came up to Cassandra, her hair the same silver shade.
"Your Majesty," he nodded. "King Consort." Another nod to Horace, as per the protocol.
"Your Highness," he nodded to Maddie.
"Ranger Will."
Will, standing a little to the side with Gilan, returned the nod.
"Ranger Gilan," Sean said. On a few occasions throughout the years, he had the chance to meet both of Halt's apprentices, one of them the current Corps Commandant.
Horace, all introductions done, came up to them.
"This has quite a sense of a déjà-vu, doesn't it?" he remarked with a sad smile. Sean narrowed his eyes.
"It does, and I wasn't even there the first time," he replied, and Cassandra motioned for all of them to follow her into the castle.
Sean and his family were seated in the first row, unfamiliar faces all around them. Next to him, Rangers Will and Gilan sat next to each other, their faces hidden by the deep shadows of their hoods. Next to them, Madelyn and Horace were seated.
When everyone had taken their place, Cassandra stood up and walked to the front.
"Ladies and gentlemen, today, I would like to welcome you on a particularly sad event. Please, let us say final goodbyes to our loved uncle, mentor and friend, Ranger Halt."
"i guess i should be thrilled / jacked off by such a jill / undone with charm and skill / but i'm such a vulgar piece of dreck / that all i wanna do / is wring your neck"
