Sukuna didn't sign up for this.
Watching you choose through a rack of dresses wasn't on his list of fun things. It was a chore, at most. He'd much rather be sitting before his PC with his headphones on and play COD than be standing in a fashion boutique.
"Aww c'mon, don't make that face now," You stifle the urge to chuckle at his obviously irritated expression.
He rolls his eyes, pushing his hand in his pocket. He should have never agreed to accompany you in your little find the right dress expedition.
And he would have said no, if only you didn't conjure your eyes into one of the cutest baby faces while jutting out your lower lip. On top of that, you had to go with the little – Please, at the end.
How could he not give in?
God, he was weak in front of that expression. Not that he'll ever admit it out loud. But he thinks, you already know that.
"Would you like to try that on, Ma'am?" An attendant approaches the both of you, gesturing to the dress you have in hand.
You pursue your lips and nod, "Yes but I would like to see some more."
"May I know the type of dress you require?"
"An evening gown," You knit your eyebrows but keep the smile. "Its a formal party so if you could..." You trail off and the attendant gets the message as she points the trial room for you and leaves to get some more dress which you can try.
"When will this end?" Sukuna sighs and mutters under his breath.
"When I find my dress, come." You turn on your heels and start walking.
"Why should I?" He asks exasparately.
"Don't you want to see me try them on?"
"I don't care."
"Well, too bad." You give him a sheepish smile. "You have to. Now, follow." You command, skipping over to the trial rooms to which he grumbles something under his breath but follows regardless.
There are four trial rooms, each one has a stool with multiple hooks on the left wall and two full length mirrors. Outside, a small yet broad lane passes before them with a common full length mirror situated on one wall. Opposite to which there is a white couch.
Good for both of you, its a weekday so there isn't much rush and the trial rooms are free. The attendant returns with a few other dresses, hangs them up in a room and leaves.
You look at Sukuna, "Just cause you agreed to come, I will let you have the first pick." You point to the flurry of dresses hanging on the hooks.
Pick a dress? Like he knows anything about them in the first place. His crimson eyes flicker with annoyance as they narrow, "Just wear whatever you want, woman."
"I will wear whatever you pick." You say confidently and his lip twitches but he doesn't let the smirk show yet.
"I don't know shit about your shitty dresses."
"Then you'll learn something, today." You tease which earns you a scowl from him. "Pick one."
He groans, momentarily glancing up at the ceiling then turning to the dresses. He doesn't even take two seconds before pointing the one at center.
"Orange?"
"Yes."
"Fine," With a smile on your face, you enter the trial room and start to get changed.
He sighs and sits down on the couch. It'd be a long day but at least he gets to sit.
Sukuna wants to laugh. Previously, he wouldn't have taken a second look at these stores and now he is waiting for you to get changed in any of them and put on a show for him.
Just what have you reduced him into? He swears, you are a witch behind that pretty facade.
Three minutes later, he hears the door being unlocked. You come out and you are... glaring at him.
"Your choice sucks." You declare as soon as you step out of the trial room.
Sukuna has to stifle the snort on the brink of his lips. He obviously didn't care while making the pick and its showing. You are wearing the orange dress he chose and it's a clear indication that it's a - No. With a large bow on the black waistband and the number of layers of skirt, it looks like you are inflated.
But your fury is amusing so he retorts back, "You're my choice."
"Yeah, the only place it did not suck."  You shoot back and march inside the trial room without waiting for his response. Finally, he can let out the snicker.
You come out a few minutes later wearing a green dress. You take a spin, "So?"
"Add feathers and wings, you can cosplay a parrot." He mocks.
"Still better than your pick."
"Really? You are picking this?" He raises an eyebrow, you stay silent and walk back into the trial room. The answer is clear. No.
You come out wearing another one, its got a white bodice, a pink belt and a dark (he doesn't know what exactly it is except it looks like the middle color between grey and blue) skirt. The conclusion is apparent: it's hideous.
"And you got the nerve to say my choice sucks?" He lips curl up into a smirk and you glare at him.
"We all have our moments." You shrug, taking a twirl in it. Looking at your reflection, you grunt, "God, I look ugly."
"The dress is ugly," He corrects, leaning back on the couch, just then the attendant returns. His eyes move to her, lips curving down in a disapproving grin. "What are you, blind?
"Sor–"
"Does your choice range from a grandma to clowns?" He remarks with a roll of his eyes.
"Sukuna!" You exclaim in panic. Forcing a smile on your lips, you glance at the attendant. "Ah- sorry, he didn't mean that..."
"Of course I di–"
"We'd see something in different style," You say before your boyfriend can run his mouth. You shoot him a glare and he shoots back another.
Keep your mouth shut.
No.
Yes.
Try me.
It's like you are communicating with eyes alone and a grin stretches on his lips and boy... that isn't good news. He is again about to say something but you speak first.
"Can you bring us something more modern and maybe... formal?"
"As you say, ma'am." The attendant answers politely, walking out of the room.
You shoot Sukuna a scowl, "Are you crazy?"
"I call it honesty." He says with conviction. "Don't tell me you really liked any one of these shits."
He may not be a dress expert but he knows a good outfit when he sees one and among the ones you tried on, they are level below of what is considered good.
He knows he's right, your frown shows as you shake your head.
You again vanish into the changing room, the attendant arrives with a few more dresses for you before leaving you two alone again.
"I'll be quick."
He hears you from inside and he wants to say - make it quicker, but he can't. The last thing he wants is you sulking all day cause you couldn't find your perfect dress. And even though, you wouldn't bother him but he will be bothered just by looking at that expression.
"Take your time, I am here."
You don't answer but he thinks you have heard him. For the next fifteen minutes, you try on a few dresses. They are better than the first three, still not up to the mark. Either mobility is a problem or the fabric being tight around certain areas or the color being unflattering.
Sukuna has his phone out and he is scrolling through his messages when he hears you curse from the trial room (his ears are sharp).
"What happened?" He asks, standing up from the couch.
"This is... bad."
"How much?"
"Borderline stripper."
That catches his interest, his eyebrow twitches. Would something really that revealing be in a fashion boutique? Considering, its one of the posh stores in city, the chances are slim.
"Can't be."
"It is," You quickly reply.
"Prove me wrong then," He adds, crossing his hands over his chest. "Come out."
You don't speak for a minute and he opens his mouth but you croak out a, "come here." Sukuna obliges quickly, standing before your door when the lock turns and he sees you.
It's like all his blood ran down to his manhood.
You are wearing a black full sleeved dress. The color is flattering. And it would have been fine if it was just that but it isn't.
The V neckline runs too deep to the end of your chest, revealing your skin and your side breasts. A shimmering belt adorns your waist, a slit emerges from your right thigh giving him the full view of your exposed leg.
Sukuna could feel his throat going dry and stomach tightening. His finger twitches and he wants to feel your skin on his. He swallows a lump, trying to keep himself from staring at your tits which would have spilled out if not for the tight fabric (as if that does any good either as it only sticks to you as a second skin). He tears his eyes off the cleavage window, returning to your face.
"And?"
And what? This is a no. He wants to say that.
The dress itself isn't bad and you look good in it. But its too revealing and he's too much of a selfish man to let the lust filled eyes of those shitheads from campus wander on your body.
No, that's not permeable. No way in hell is he going to let others see you in that way.
He clears his throat and answers, "If you want everyone looking at your chest then go on."
"Told you, its bad." You place your hand on your waist and lean a bit forward. He has to resist his eyes from wandering below to your breasts and cleavage which is accentuated by your new pose.
A fire alights in his body and his thoughts are flickering to a direction he doesn't want them to. Still, the temptation of running his fingertips on your– NO.
He shakes his head. "Remove this dress."
You need to remove this dress. He needs you out of this dress.
He pauses before quickly adding, "change into another."
Yeah, that's what he meant, obviously. You need to change into another dress.
You nod and pivot around, he is trying not to stare at your the curve of your ass. You push your hair to one side, glancing at him from the periphery. "Can you uh... can you unzip it? The sleeves are tight."
The dress was already enough of a problem, now your insane request.
He complies wordlessly. Each second feels like eternity to him, your zipper comes down in a agonizing slow pace. And he has to refrain himself from pressing his lips on your nape.
He steps away from the room as the door closes. He clenches his fist and curses under his breath, "Fuck..."
"I'll take a trip to the washroom." He shouts to let you know and is stomping out before you can answer.
He doesn't realize that his face is red and he is sweating until he reaches the stalls.
.
Now you are staring at yourself on the common mirror of the lane.
A pink gown reaching till your ankles, its got poofy sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. Sequins adorns the bodice, small glitter stars on the white net over the skirt.
Sukuna watches from behind you, his arms folded over his chest. A ghost of a smile on his lips, "Like it, princess?"
You raise an eyebrow, glancing at him from the mirror. The corner of your lip curls involuntarily, "Princess?"
"Do look like one while wearing that." He answers.
You know it's not his attempt at flirting, he's being honest but the your cheeks tinge just a bit of red.
You playfully roll your eyes, pushing the strands of hair from your eyes, "I am more eligible for a queen."
He already believes you are his queen. But he'd never say it out loud to you but anyone who knows him, they know that you are his queen. You are his.
"Like it or not?" He questions again, watching as your fingertips glide over the garment.
Pressing on the larger sequins and the broach placed over your heart. He notes the uncertainty clear in your expression, the hesitance clear. You are bothered, somehow.
"I mean... it's good and the color's nice and there- there's no problem but its uh..." You pause, trying to find the right words. "What should I say? It's Uhm..."
"Too much?" He offers.
"Too much."
His crimson irises meet yours in the mirror. The tender stare isn't missed, stark contrast to his attitude half an hour ago. No words are spoken in between but its almost like a conversation is held in gaze alone.
After a second, both of your lips stretches into a smile (his looks like a smirk more).
"Am I indecisive?"
"You have tried almost ten dresses, woman." He states with a roll of eyes. "Of course, you are."
You frown and Sukuna wants to hit himself for making that comment.
"I can take thi–"
"Now don't settle for something which you obviously don't like," He interrupts you. "The last thing I want is my girl wearing something she hates."
You have to pinch your lips together to not let the smile show but it's damn difficult when he has that smirk on his face and blood rushes to your cheek.
There's just something that happens when he calls you his.
You march up to the changing room, "Want to make another awful choice for me?"
His answer would have been no but he can't say that cause he wants to pick a dress for you.
No, he wouldn't admit that it's fun. He is just... amused. Yes, amused.
He looks at the dresses again. And by look, he is actually looking. Analyzing the styles, colors and fabric before he points the one at right.
"Red?"
"Red."
"Red it is," You affirm and step into the room again.
He leans against the wall of the common area, scrolling through his phone to kill time. But the wait is killing him and the device doesn't distract his impatience to see you in his pick.
After a minute, he hears your voice, "This is it."
Curiosity plagues him again, he straightens himself up and you step outside.
You are glowing.
Sukuna's breath hitches in his throat, eyes widening just slightly. He takes every inch of your form, engraving it in his mind.
The dress isn't one with complex designs or embellishments. A simple off-shoulder red dress reaching till your ankles accentuating the waist and the skirt then flows all the way out.
Less is more; whoever said that, they were damn right.
However, it isn't the dress that has him transfixed. It's the fact that you are smiling. You are twirling. You are posing. You are beaming.
"It's perfect," You tell him, taking a spin as the skirt twirls in the air and you giggle like a kid.
It is. The dress is perfect. You are perfect.
"Like it, princess?" He asks even though he knows the answer, he wants to hear it from you.
You look at him with disbelief still with the smile. "Like it? Oh no, I don't like it. I love it."
You skip over to him, still beaming. Standing on your tip toes, you press your lips on his cheek. "Thank you." You express while grinning.
You don't get a second to react when Sukuna grabs your chin, tilting your face aside and smashes his lips on yours. Heat rushes to your face when you feel him smirk against your lips.
The curve of his mouth still remains even when he lets you go. "Thank me properly, princess."
"Will this nickname go on?"
He pushes a strand of your hair back your ear, "Now and forever." He pulls you in for a kiss again and you happily oblige.
.
When he is driving you back home, the dress packed in a bag and rests in the backseat. You are still smiling while looking out the window.
He keeps on taking secret glimpses of you once in a while. A thought stick his mind.
Sure, he never signed up for this but he is 100% sure that he made the perfect choice.
Either in dress or you.
He has made the perfect choice.
His hand involuntarily reaches for yours which rests on your thigh. Interlocking your fingers, he brings it up and brushes his lips on the back of your hand.
You take a peek at him which he returns it with a grin, his canines glinting in the dim light.
"Next time you go shopping, you are calling me."

Because you're the queen of outsider POV fic, I wonder, would you ever write a fic where the world finds out the Kent's are actually Kryptonians? Like maybe there's timetravel bs or magic or whatever, but it's everywhere- Superman is Clark Kent, daily planet reporter.
Maybe it starts with Jon in his classroom, just sitting there when suddenly his teacher, who had just gotten a call from the front office, pales and just stares at Jon. Her mind is blank, frozen for a minute while she thinks about the fact she's given one of the most powerful people recess detention. Laughter bubbles up, strange and slightly hysterical. But then she takes a breath, remembers that Jon is a sweet kid, and more than that, he's one of her students and that means she needs to protect him.
She quietly sends him to the office, where the principle will hide him until his father or mother can take him safely. She knows every second brings them closer to mobs at the gates demanding everything and more.
Or maybe it's Perry, sitting in silence, having received a tip off 20 minutes before the story ran, studying Clark, Superman, as he sits in the shitty armchair, waiting patiently for him to speak. Looking small and unassuming despite his size and power. A god made flesh, and he sits meekly before a normal, human man who pays him like shit and yells at him over deadlines. Perry swallows and gives Clark his warning, wondering if he'll ever see Lois and Clark again. He's sure he'll see Superman again. Superman, despite this betrayal by the very people he protects, will likely never abandon his charges. But he doubts he'll ever meet Clark Kent, if he was ever even real.
Or maybe it's Cat Grant, staring at Kara, as she flees and stumbles out, like a normal human girl, until something Shifts and suddenly she's gone like she was never there, the only sign the gust of wind she left in her wake.
Just... people seeing both sides of the coin and coming to terms with it. Making the choice to protect the strongest people alive. Marveling at them, their humanity juxtaposed against their inhuman perfection.
Idk I just have feels ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-♡♡♡
Oh I LOVE this idea!! Maybe a fic with a couple different POVs shifting rapidly all around the same 5-10 minutes of realization. Seeing the dominoes fall and things slide into place. Getting the barest glimpse of realization before Bruce (presumably) sweeps in and enacts the most bold witness protection/media blackout campaign ever seen before, and since.

Stained Glass
Tumblr media
(Pt2 of Broken Glass)
Cairo Sweet x Broken!Fem!Reader
Summary: After two years of a break up, an unexpected accident happens…but it brings you home
Warnings: Car Accident, severe wounds, lung cancer mentioned, angst turns to fluff, death mentions, surgery mentioned
Y/l/n: Your last name
Y/e/c: Your eye color
~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been two years since your break up with Cairo. You’re off to college now. And you haven’t seen Cairo since the ball party, well rather have you not seen much of anything.
You were in an accident. An accident a year after your break up, which magically happened to be on the day you’d have your anniversary with Cairo. If you never broke up.
You’ve been healing quite well, just major surgery had to happen. Your left eye was completely damaged when the car wreck happened, glass struck in your eye so now you are blind in your left.
Cairo never was told about your incident. Even though you went to the same college, you were doing it from home. Since you didn’t really have the money to afford a dorm. So you’ve just stayed in your parents basement suffering while doing homework, leaving for work or classes and going upstairs only for food. (Since you also have a bathroom)
Life was shitty now, at least you managed to get into college. Soccer wasn’t going well, even though you’re pretty much recovered minus your eye which was the minor problem.
Today you were heading for your first class of the day, which was nursing. You we’re gonna be a nurse, since it was the only career you knew would be useful and your parents think is best. And you never want to argue with them.
This forced choice in your life makes your life even more shitty. With having strict parents doesn’t help with your mental health. You just wanted a good life with Cairo in it, but she pushed you away and now you live in a cold basement and only come out for important things.
Your soccer career hasn’t been going well either. Minus your injuries you just don’t have motivation.
Besides your shitty life, heading off to nursing class. As far as you know you don’t have anymore friends, you lost them all after going into this depression and car accident. For whatever reason they didn’t want to hangout with you, bunch of assholes.
Walking on campus was your favorite though. Tennessee’s college campus was gorgeous. The orange buildings made the autumn trees lighten up, it was perfect for the fall year.
Your favorite band was playing in your ears, headphones over the bandage that hid your deceased eye. Ever since you started college, meeting your classmates and professors. They look at you different from what people had looked at you from before, you feel like a monster.
Some ask to see your eye, others make comments behind your back. It’s painful. You almost just want to slit your own throat every time someone looks at you weird. Humans are evil people now a days.
Just now as you walk inside the nursing building. Some people gave you that stink eye as they walked past you. Fuck society.
Even as class started everyone kept looking at you, whispering things to one another. Wouldn’t you think at this age everyone would stop being so judgmental?
Apparently not. Some boys are still maturing since the seventh grade. Some girls just like to be mean because they can.
But for whatever reason todays class just seemed worse. Other students were looking at you even weirder, like you just murdered someone. The professor wasn’t even looking at you, she was just giving the lesson and writing stuff in the board.
Was it your clothes? You smell? Acne? Your eye still even though it was covered? Maybe your eye bags that look bigger than your eye itself?
No, no it couldn’t be
You looked down at your paper notes, blood was dripping on them. Maybe just a bloody nose right? From stress?
Your hand reached up to make sure it was your nose, but it wasn’t. Now your heart was beating faster, you reached up to touch your left eye, where it’s covered. The bandage was wet as you touched it, looking at your hand it was bloody.
“Fuck!” You cried out, and some students looked at you in shock. Now the professor noticed, she immediately went over to you and that made you move.
“N-no! Stay back!” You yelled, and the professor listened. You wanted to cry, scream, tear out your lungs, maybe even jump out the window. Then no one could see your ugly eye.
You took off to the bathrooms. Ignoring some of the gasps or even laughs that echoed in your ears, you could hear the professor shush the class but you didn’t pay any mind to them.
Why is this happening? Why are you bleeding? Didn’t the doctors say it shouldn’t anymore?
Crashing into the bathrooms. You looked in the mirror even though you didn’t even want to. Your eye was definitely bleeding again, oddly that it barely hurt. The bandage was drenched in the red ink.
You sobbed, now the tears ran as your eye stung. You unwrapped the bandage, after grabbing several paper towels to hold up to your eye.
It hurt, it hurt really bad now. You couldn’t stop crying from the pain, which increased it.
“Holy shit.” You whipped your head to the female voice. It was a student from one of your class, her eyes were wide. She’s obviously never seen someone with a bleeding eye. I mean, who has? It’s not normal.
“Are you okay?” She asked after a minute of silence. She approached you, examining you. You couldn’t tell if it was a judgmental look or a genuine worries look.
“N-no..I’m not.” You sigh, the bleeding was slowly stopping…but boy did you not feel good.
The girl got close enough to fully see the bleeding eye that was covered in bloody paper towels. “Let me see it…” She didn’t even ask. “Uh..You don’t want to-” “But I do.” She cut you off.
You sighed, knowing you couldn’t fight her. And if she wanted to see it? Fine! It’s not like you haven’t scared a billion other people with it. You removed the paper towel, your eye looking fresh again. Fresh skin and blood, it hurt so bad.
“Oh god,” the girl said. You knew it wasn’t pretty, it was awful to look at. “You need a doctor or something..that’s pretty bad.” You nodded, looking back into the mirror. The injured eye was still there, you’re just blind in that eye. “Let’s get you to the hospital,” she took your hand without even letting you reply, but you new it was for the best anyways.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You hated hospitals. Even more now that you were in a car crash and had but put in surgery, knowing apart of you was open when you were sleeping. It makes your skin crawl.
Sadly the doctors had said your eye must be removed. Due to constant bleeding and dead tissue. Fuck, could this get any worse? Hey, why don’t you take both of my eyes while your at it! You thought.
“How long will the surgery be for?” You asked, staring at the several surgical professionals. “One to maybe two hours. It depends on how bad the damage is.” A female doctor answered authentically.
Get ready to sleep for almost two hours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Timeskip bc lack of motivation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cairo was walking the side walk of campus, making her way to the greenhouse the college owned. Cairo had always loved plants, any green one specifically. Green was just her favorite, specifically forest green.
Her favorite thing ever was to write her stories while sitting in the greenhouse. So that was what she planned to do at the moment, it was quiet and on campus so whenever she had her next class she was already there. It was perfect!
Cairo had an earbud in, listening to a song by Gin Blossoms. She happened to walk by a group of students talking about something, she wouldn’t pay any mind only if she didn’t hear your name.
“Yeah, Y/n Y/l/n ran into the bathroom with a bloody face. No one knows why, but someone said she got in a car wreck a few months back.” A male student said, looking in the direction of his friends. “Oh my god.” “Jesus.” A few said. “Some girl helped her to the hospital yesterday. I think she’s still there.”
Cairo was shocked. You went to the same college she does? How in the hell did she not know that? Or ever see you? She assumed you moved states because of her. And you got in a car wreck?! So much was flooding her brain she stopped walking and forgot to move.
But wait, you were still at the hospital. She could see you. But would you want that?
Would it be rude to just walk in and say hi as if you’re still together or friends?
All these thoughts made her feel upset and nauseous. But she had to see you, she needed to. Even if you were to push her away this time, she at least needed to know if you were okay.
“Which hospital?” Cairo asked the group, making them turn and look at her suspicious. “Uh..(street name),” one answered. “Okay, thank you.” She the started to run off to that hospital, totally forgetting about her upcoming class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a bit of a run, but she managed to get there under ten minutes. She wasn’t sure how she was going to explain to you when she sees you. Nor how she’ll even greet you.
Approaching the hospital doors, she walked past them as they slid open. Cairo jogged up to the Receptionist’s desk. “Name?” The woman said, noticing Cairo’s hurry. “Uhm..Y/n..Y/n Y/l/n. I need to see her.” Cairo spoke out of breath. “Relation, dear?” “Uhh..”
Ex girlfriend? Traitor? Long lost friend?
“Cousin.” Cairo wanted to slap herself.
Really? Cousin? Even you would glare at her for that one.
“Alright, well. She’s in room 204.” Once she got the room number she didn’t hesitate to start running to the elevator. She was so lost in her mind she didn’t even care that the woman had yelled at her for running and to slow down.
Cairo raced to the elevator, pressing the button and her legs bounced impatiently. Once it opened she slipped inside and press the two button. The elevator music didn’t add anything less to her stress, it just increased it.
The doors slid open and she dashed through them, this time speed walking to the room so she knows which way to go.
201, 202, 203
204
She slowed down, opening the door slowly.
There you were.
Alive. Awake. Healthy? Maybe but Alive!
You turned your head from the doctor that was in there talking to you. Shocked, your one eye opened widely. Seeing the person you once cared for before your glass heart shattered. Maybe you still care about
“Cairo?” Hearing you say her name made her start to cry. Tears falling down her freckled cheeks. The doctor got up and left, not really wanting to be involved. It was your eye. Your eye was injured. Fuck.
“I-I..” Cairo sobbed, she didn’t know what to say. You stared at her in disbelief..but also you had a feeling in your chest. Your heart thumping.
She’s still as beautiful as before. Just in tears.
“Cairo…” you said again, even sadder.
“Y/n.” She replied with, her voice as sad as yours. She approached your bedside, and surprisingly you let her.
Cairo could see how your left eye was bandages up, some blood but nonetheless clean. “I’m so sorry..” she cried, “I didn’t know..I didn’t know until today. I-I didn’t even know you were still here.” She cried, wanting to be nowhere else than your arms.
“My parents fell broke. I stay in their basement, that’s probably why you didn’t know.” You said softly, seeing how she examined your face in horror.
“How bad is it? I only overheard what happened but..no details.” You scoff, of course rumors got spread. Probably thanks to that girl that had to use the bathroom at the time you were bleeding.
You sighed, looking up at her again to reply; “they had to get a removal.” You assumed she already knew about the eye, wether she was told or not. Just by sight.
Cairo gasped, her hands covering her mouth. She didn’t want to cry more than she already was. “I have no left eye.” You confirmed. She didn’t know what to say, still shocked and sorry for it all.
Even though you had another eye. How was she supposed to look into those angelic y/e/c eyes. Yeah she could look into your right, but it wouldn’t be the same.
She pulled you into an unexpected hug, mindful of the healing..well…socket. “I don’t know what to say. I’m..I’m sorry for everything, I’m sorry I pushed you away. I didn’t mean to, I was just so upset and stressed.”
Her mom sadly had passed a few months because of lung cancer, after your breakup. She lost herself then, going into a tight depression. Even worse now she left you.
“I understand Cairo.” Those words hit her like a bus back. She didn’t think you’d forgive so easily. Let alone understand. “I’m sorry too.”
She huffed you tighter, feeling your heart beat against hers. “I heard about your mom, I’m so so sorry. I wish things were better. But..I think we can fix that.” Cairo pulled away to look at you.
“How? I already broke both of our hearts.” She sniffed, “how can I put back the pieces if I’m the one who shattered them?”
She had a point, she hurt you badly. But for a good reason.
“I know. But sometimes you’ve got to put those pieces back together..when you know that person who broke them is hurting their own.”
Tears swelled up again. Fuck she still loved you.
She still needs you, she wants you. She craves you back and your touch. She misses watching you kick a ball around on a sweaty field for hours, hearing you laugh as your Y/e/c eyes shimmer in the sun or moonlight. She misses you. Without even knowing it.
She looked into your eye, smiling wide as you tugged her into a kiss. Those soft lips against yours felt right again.
Sometimes broken hearts are put back together with the person who broke them. If they are hurting, themselves.
Christ. I took longer than I should have, it also felt rushed at the end. But hopefully it’s good since I’m lazy to spell check at the moment
So let me know if I messed up 😭
A lot of people like to characterize Manfred as an abusive parent who puts perfection above all else, to the point of micromanaging his kids lives' and while there's nothing wrong with that interpretation (It isn't at all out of character) I personally prefer to think of him as leaning more on the neglect side of the shitty-parenting-scale.
Manfred is know for being both ruthless and dedicated during his career as a prosecutor. He pours so much effort and passion and time into his work. Into being perfect. Canonically, he only ever took one vacation and that was out of absolutely necessity.
Work was his number one priority. I imagine that parenting would come second to all that.
I think Manfred probably spent long hours at the office, leaving Miles and Franziska home alone often. Burdening the two kids with the responsibility of caring for themselves and each other.
This would explain Franziska's whole...thing...really well, in my opinion.
Franziska grew up so quickly because she had no other choice. She was forced to look after herself. She had to be creative and resourceful to get her needs met. She had to become bold and violent in order to be noticed, because when she wasn't constantly announcing her presence, she was being ignored.
As for Miles, he probably got more attention than his sister but I imagine the kind of attention he got was mostly negative (Manfred telling him what he's doing wrong and needs to improve on) and very clinical. He taught Edgeworth how to prosecute and in doing so treated him more like an unruly pupil than a son.
Manfred never cared about Miles on a personal level. He didn't take an interest in the kid as a human being. To him, Miles Edgeworth was a means to an end.
Just like for Franziska, I think this kind of neglect would go a long way in explaining Edgeworth's behavior. He has so much trouble expressing his emotions (and feels embarrassed when he does manage to express them) because in a neglectful household having emotions and needs is treated as shameful. He has been taught that his feelings and hobbies and personal life are inconveniences at best which is why he goes out of his way to hide those things, even when he's an adult. This would also explain his approach to interacting with other people. If most of the time Edgeworth was alone (or with Manfred or Franziska) than it only makes sense that he'd start to feel detached from the others around him. That kind of thing can really deteriorate both a person's social skills and their compassion.
oy yoo joonghyuk, your looking kinda rough there. you good blud?
Tumblr media
ok i really like this because i feel like previously the comic had an issue with making me care about yjh regressions. like theyd say they happened but didnt show it in a way that made me actually care but like with this now i understand and i can care about the pain his character went through more rather than just 'oh yeah the regressions happened hes sad about that but your not gonna get to see why and any of the pain he went through'
Tumblr media
WHAT FHE FUCK WHY DOES IT HAVE A MOUTH. WHAT FHE HELL NKOOOOOO I DONT LIKE THIS
Tumblr media
oh gohd. i. i dont like this.
Tumblr media
YEAH. YA SHOULDVE. ok so i didnt take screenshots for a while but i think its really funny she got eaten. i dont like her. i know she tried her best and was going through a tough time but when your a parent trying your best isnt enough. you are raising a human being obviously your not going to be perfect but being a bad parent and trying to excuse it with 'i tried my best' is crazy. any other situation trying your best will always be enough because thats all you can do but a parent should do more than their best. i just. ugh. i think shes a very interesting and compelling character and a very realistic and human one at that but if she was real id want to fist fight her.
Tumblr media
YAH KILL HIS ASS. her only saving grace in my eyes. the only thing ill ever say she did right. but then she went and put dokjas traumatic childhood on blast to the whole world while he was still a kid without his permission so i still dont like her 😋
Tumblr media
honestly outside of writing the book and not getting dokja away from the abuse eairlier she was actually an amazing mom, she taught him many important things and even here always taught him the right lesson. BUT WHY THE FUCK YOU WRITE THAT DAMN BOOK-
also she basically abandoned him in a sense so hate her for that too ✌️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS. ok most big twists i was already spoiled for but- ARE YOU TELLING ME DOKJA WAS THE ONE TO ACTUALLY KILL HIM?!??!!? OHHHHHH OH MY GOD. ok thats gonna fuck up his psyche to remember that but good for him yes kill that dude. also more points for her your slightly less of a shitty mom in my eyes you took the fall for him thats wonderful thats good parenting there (not the murder the being willing to take the fall in this situation)
Tumblr media
thats actually insane because that means there was a reason behind the book. the book was to make sure no one ever thought it was dokja. i mean i dont think anyone wouldve suspected that so still she prob didnt need to write it but. THAT MEANS THERE WAS A REASON FOR THE BOOK. MY WHOLE ARGUMENT HAS BEEN THROWN OUT THE WINDOW I LOVE BEING PROVEN WRONG OHHH THIS IS AMAZING AND CRAZY. i still have my annoyances with her parenting but like. +50 parent points for this you go girl AND YOU GO DOKJA MURDER HIS ASS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh. LMAO. DUMB ASS WAY TO DIE FUCKER. HAHAHAH DOKJA DIDNT EVEN MURDER HIM THIS DUMBASS SLIPPED AND FELL ONTO THE KNIFE AS DOKJA WAS HOLDING IT LMAOOOOOOOOOO THATS SO HILARIOUS. FUCKING IDIOT. so neither of them actually killed him thats hilarious thats so fucking funny pathetic death for a pathetic man.
Tumblr media
ok but objectively letting him die was the good choice. like. mf deserved it.
Okay, so, an RGU Good Omens AU with Utenanthy = Ineffable Husbands is already a very solid idea that works very well. Like, it is pretty funny to think how totally contrasting these characters’ core aesthetics are (especially Aziraphale and Utena) but when you get deep down to these characters’ core issues and narrative roles there’s a lot of parallels you can use. Crowley and Anthy both suffer from self-loathing due to being labeled as Ontologically Evil while trying their best to relish in it, self-sacrificing to a fault while also harboring some deep-rooted resentments. Utena and Aziraphale are both incredibly well-meaning in a very endearing way but are also so blinded by their deeply-ingrained black-and-white conceptions of how the world should work that it makes them stupidly oblivious and harmful to the one they love. I can go into it even more deeply, but it works pretty damn well…
And now I am thinking, if there’s any interesting ways to slot in the rest of the cast (Shadow Play GIrls = Agnes Nutter???). More specifically right now I am considering if there’s anything interesting I can do with the whole Gabriel/Beezlebub thing.
Because, like, my initial plan was maybe everyone in the Student Council as Angels, everyone who was a Black Rose Duelist a Demon and anyone who’s in neither category is Human. And… the whole point of the Black Rose Duelist is that most of them are deeply emotionally connected to a member of the Student Council. But also…… Most of these relationships are not ones that I can see getting any sort of happily ever after up in the stars. Even by RGU standards.
I mean… I think the closest option with this idea is Gabriel!Juri and Beelzebub!Shiroi which… I mean, it can work. That’s, arguably, RGU’s second-or-third biggest ‘ship’, and there’s plenty of thematic parallels you can make between Juri/Shiori and Utena/Anthy. My main reservation about this idea is just that… I just find it hard to imagine Juri/Shiori as the ‘B-Couple’ who sort-their-shit-out while the main couple is still deep in the Drama. Even when this main couple is Utena/Anthy, this is kind of a tough sell.
The other thing I was thinking about is that, like……. The best choice for a Gabriel in this AU should obviously be Touga, right?? Like, we’ve got this smarmy macho incredibly hateable guy who seems to just be a contrast to our Good Duelist/Angel to make them look better but… whoops! Turns out they’re actually Narrative Counterparts with a lot of things in common! And it’s kinda about giving this shitty guy redeeming qualities but also it’s mostly about deconstructing the flaws of our ‘good one’. In terms of both characterization and narrative roles, Touga is the best choice for the Archangel Fucking Gabriel.
And Touga’s Black Rose ‘counterpart’ is Keiko. Which like… okay, she can work as a Beezelbub. I mean, the closest thing for an animal motif/Demon Fursona we’ve got for her is the title of her focus episode (“Vermin” or more literally “Troublesome Insects”), so from this angle, this could work.
But like… it’s Keiko. The whole point of her character is that she is a Forgettable Side Act that Touga doesn’t really care about and no other main character really pays attention to either. Making her Lord Beezlelbub feels like missing the point.
On the other hand, we could just throw away this whole Student Council/Black Rose Heaven/Hell dichotomy idea and go with the character Touga is actually frequently paired with, Saionji. These two actually kinda work as ‘B-Couple who sort their shit out before the main couple does’. I mean… It's clear they’ve got a few issues to work on, but they do reach a reconciliation before the climax of the actual show. I think that does kinda work?
Or maybe we should swap Demon/Angel roles on Touga/Saionji. I mean, I know I went over why Touga is the perfect Gabriel choice but… Saionji works decently well too. And mostly I just think it’ll be funny to play with the whole ‘Crowley fucking hates Gabriel’ thing with Anthy and Saionji lol
Or… if Saionji is Gabriel, then maybe ‘his’ Black Rose Duelist could be Beezelbub? Namely Wakaba? But that also clashes into a lot of the same thematic problems as Keiko above. I mean, not to the same level…. But still….
Or maybe, we can bring the whole Juri-Gabriel idea back, and go with the Juri/Wakaba angle that the Movie teased. You know, with the whole Juri is driving Wakaba thing?
Tumblr media
I mean, both Gabriel/Beezlebub and Juri/Wakaba are relationships that developed almost entirely off-screen so that’s also maybe an angle of comparison worth considering?
Hmmm… I think I still need to think about this for a while. See if there’s other options I haven’t considered. Maybe slot other characters into other roles and see what comes out of that… But you know what might help me decide?
That’s right! A Poll!
Seven Ways to Summon the Ghost King
Chapter Two: The Friend of a Friend
[1] [here] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
Ao3
Summary: Dean wants his brother's soul back. Danny is ready to help.
Warnings: Some blood and the aftermat of a fight.
- - -
Dean left the shitty store and Doc. Roberts’ shitty ‘office’, standing in the middle of the convenience store that served as a front for the doctor’s more arcane business. “This better work.” He said to himself. “Messorum evoco qui me titigit.”
“Dean? What the Hell?”
Dean turned around, meeting his reaper once again after all these years. “What do you know? It worked.” She seemed to remember him well, if her choice to go with her human-looking shape rather than her ‘spooky bed sheet ghost’ attire was any indication.
“I was in Sudan!” Tessa exclaimed. “What’s with yanking me ov-” She stopped, actually seeing his current state, “wait, why are you dead?”
Finally! To the point. “Tessa, I need a favor.”
“Oh, you’re kidding. You died to ask me-”
“Tell your boss I need to talk to him.” The hunter hastily interrupted. Only three minutes.
“No.” Tessa said immediately.
“Please?”
“Where do you get the nerve?”
“Desperate times.” That was as simple as he could say it, since he didn’t consider the bread aisle next to the rotisserie chicken to be the perfect place to talk about it.
“He calls for us.” The reaper finally explained. “We don’t call him.”
“You make an exception!” Dean snapped, his patience was wearing thin.
“I can’t!” But even a reaper had limitations. There were rules they were bound to.
“Can’t or won’t?!”
“Both!”
“Hey, um, sorry to interrupt, but you’re Tessa and Dean, right?” A lanky guy that almost looked like Tessa’s little brother interrupted and- wait, was he actually her Reaper lil’ bro or something? To be here with them in Limbo…
“Danny?” Was what she said instead, gobsmacked. “I mean, sir-”
“Danny is okay, really.” The guy said, putting up both hands in front of himself, as a placating gesture and to fend off the formality. “Anyway, Death sent me.” That caught Dean’s attention. “I’ll take it from here.” Danny told her kindly. “You can go back to work, don’t worry.”
Tessa looked back at Dean, lips pursed and finally nodded. “Behave.” She warned the hunter one last time before disappearing.
“So, who the fuck are you?” Dean demanded from the new guy. “Can you actually do something or do I have to ask for the big boss again?”
“Woah, calm down, man. I just got here. My names Danny, by the way. Death’s busy so she delegated to me. What do you need?”
Ignoring the odd pronoun, Dean went right back to the chase. “My brother’s soul is in Hell, in the Cage! While his body is up here being a fucking psychopath!” He was breathing hard, closing his hands into fists and then opening them again. “He’s down there being tortured by Lucifer and Michael and I… I can’t leave him there.” He looked up to meet Danny’s eyes.
Had they been green a minute ago?
“Where is his body?” He said with a chilling intensity.
“Why-”
“You said his body is up and about, I need you to keep it in one place. I don’t know how long it’ll take me, but I need you to keep his body in one place: where?”
“… Singer Savage, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.”
Danny nodded. “Go there, lock up your brother’s body and wait for me.” He commanded firmly. “Understood?”
At Dean’s nod, Danny put a hand on the hunter’s chest and-
-Dean came back with a deep gasp, as his lungs tried to compensate for the time his body had been starved of breath.
“I have to go.” He sat up shakily, just in time to avoid a shot of adrenaline. “I need to-”
“Aw, this was the best part.” The goth chick next to him grumbled, syringe still in hand.
“Oh, boy, you’re alright! How did it go?” Doctor Roberts asked him, and Dean felt his heartbeat accelerate.
“It was- great. Awesome. And I have- I need to go back to Bobby.” He made for the door, but Roberts put both hands on his shoulders and sat him back down.
“Dean, you are in no state to drive. You just came back from the dead, you need to recover.” He said, handing him a glass of water of dubious origin.
“No! What I need to do is go back with Bobby and keep Sam in one piece- place, and quickly. Danny said-”
“Alright, big boy.” The assistant drawled, smirking. “No need to throw a tantrum. I can drive you there.”
Dean seriously considered saying Cristo right then, because the smile Eva gave him was nothing short of devilish.
- - -
Dean stumbled into Singer Savage, thankful he had left his baby back here, otherwise he feared Eva would demand to drive herself back. That girl really was hell in four wheels.
“Bobby!” He called, entering the old house and looking for the old man. “Where is Sam?!
“Over here, boy.”
As he walked towards the voice, he noticed the disarray the place was in, with broken furniture and stuff thrown around all over the place.
He found Bobby sitting in front of a big metal door nursing his flask close to his chest.
“What happened here?” He asked in concern.
“Your baby brother is what happened.” Bobby said, pointing at the door with his thumb and taking a swing from his flask in his other hand. “Fuckin’ tried to kill me and failed!” He told him, with the last bit thrown over his shoulder towards Sam’s cell.
“So he’s there? He’s trapped?” Dean looked through the small window, finding a dirty and bloodied Sam sitting on the floor glaring daggers at him with heartless –soulless– eyes.
“As well as ‘can be since we don’t have a human-trapping circle yet. You know, other than walls.” Bobby extended his hand and Dean took it, helping the older hunter stand up. “Did you make it? You got the deal?”
“Yeah, I- I got the deal.” He put a hand in his pocket where the ring-
The ring wasn’t there.
Had the kid taken it while Dean didn’t notice? How could Dean not notice? Had he tricked him into believing he would save his little brother so Dean would back off?
A lump formed in his throat and his knees trembled. Had he damned Sammy?
“Move over!”
It happened in a flash. One second he was questioning all his actions that led up to this moment and the next his life of obeying his father was kicking in and he instinctually followed the order.
The next moment, both he and Bobby had a lot to process.
Not just because a glowing, white haired kid with a bruised face caked with a green substance had just passed through the steel door dragging an equally bruised, equally glowing Sammy, but also because he had left another person behind, laid on the floor just as bloody and bruised but not glowing like them.
“What the hell was that?!” Bobby voiced their thoughts.
“Adam?” Dean knelt next to the still form of his half-brother. The surprise and confusion were clear in his voice, not only for the fact that Adam was there but for his current condition. Was he actually alive? Was this his dead body and had his soul already left?
A blood-curdling scream tore Dean away and back towards the door, where he only caught a flash of bright light through the small window before he could finally find both Sammy and Danny thrown on the floor, unconscious.
Bobby turned to Dean, confused, “Son, you better start doin’ some explaining.”
- - -
“So, this half dead thing, how does it work?” Bobby asked Danny, handing him another ice-pack, this one going to his split lip.
“Usually better than this.” The young man replied with a grimace. Young man. An adult again, while his other half had been just a boy. “Usually I heal kinda fast, but I don’t think that’ll be the case this time.”
“Because you took on two archangels.”
Danny almost doubled over laughing, but his cracked ribs and Bobby’s firm hand on his good shoulder stopped him from causing himself more damage.
“Easy, boy.”
“Sorry, it’s just- I didn’t ‘take on’ two archangels. I didn’t even face them! I just, got in while they were at each other’s throats, distracted, snatched up the guys, and turned tail as fast as I could when they noticed.
“If I had actually tried to fight them, none of us would have gotten out.” His face had sobered, looking at his bandaged hand.
Who had he been holding with that hand? Would it had been Adam or Sam who got dragged back to Hell? Bobby shuddered to think that. These boys deserved to be finally free.
Speaking of which…
“But you still went to the end of Hell and back to get ‘em back. And I owe you for that. Thank you.”
The boy blushed and ducked his head, shrugging. “It had to be done.”
“No, don’t.” The weathered hunter gripped Danny’s shoulder more firmly, but still mindful of his injury. “Don’t undermine what you did, kid. You saved these boys. So, again, thank you.”
Ha had saved Sam’s soul, and if his soulless body’s previous attempt at patricide showed something, it was that Sam saw Bobby as a father as much as Bobby saw him as a son.
And maybe he hadn’t raised Adam like he had his boys, but he still was so young, with a whole life ahead of himself. He would have to come to terms with his mother’s loss and the years he’d missed but if he had that Winchester stubbornness in him he would be okay. Eventually.
“If there is anything I can do…” Bobby offered again.
“Uh, actually…” Danny’s sheepishness turned into outright embarrassment. “I could really do with a ride home. My friends and sister are at college and I really don’t trust my parents’ driving.”
Bobby huffed out a laugh. Of all things he could have asked…
“Sure thing, kid. Do ya mind if I call someone to pick you up? I gotta fix this place, and I really wanna keep an eye on these boys.”
“No prob’, sir, just, generally speaking, if we could keep the ‘half ghost’ thing between the people here, y’know, don’t let word get out, that would be great.”
“Understood.”
- - -
Sam and Adam were still out cold, but alive. Dean had wanted to stay by their bedside, but Bobby left no room for arguing in that he had to thank Danny before he left for home. Home, which was his parents’ house in Illinois, when he wasn’t at college.
Was he seriously just some guy? Part-timing as a reaper… ghost… friend of Death of all beings.
Said guy was currently resting against Garth’s truck, eyes closed and face tilted upwards just basking in the sunlight after having gone to the depths of Hell and back. Because Dean had asked.
Yeah, he should thank him face to face.
“Hey.” He called out as he approached.
Danny looked back down and Dean finally got to see his busted lip and split eyebrow, which had been easier to ignore than the arm in a cast, but harder than the bad posture hiding his broken and bandaged ribs.
“Hey, man.” He said with a weak grin. “Ready to move on, huh?”
“Yeah, I already called my parents, told them I’ll be visiting… I didn’t tell them it’s gonna be a recovery visit, though, or they would have insisted in driving here.” Danny said with a grimace. “I’m just waiting for your friend Garth to finish talking with Mister Singer, and then we’ll go.”
Dean nodded along but on the inside he steeled himself, cowboyed up, and began, “Hey, listen, about Death’s ring, I know you already took it but-”
“I didn’t take anything.” Danny said calmly making the hunter pause. His expression was knowing and serene. “If you had something of Death’s that she wanted back, there was nothing you could’ve done to keep her from getting it back. Death is everywhere and you can’t escape her forever.” He said it so matter-of-fact and with such acceptance that it rankled Dean, who had already died and come back as well.
“Ok, well, then you still went to Hell and saved my brothers, and I know you told Bobby we owed you nothing and only want a ride home but-”
“Mister Singer owes me nothing, but you do.” The halfa interrupted him again, leaving Dean flabbergasted.
Was he really saying…? Well, it’s not like Dean wasn’t in the middle of offering anyway, but still…
The hunter nodded. “Okay.” He didn’t know what he was signing up to, but he had already sold his soul once to save Sam, and he would do it again if it came down to it.
“You don’t owe me because I saved your brothers.” Danny explained. “I’d have done that for free, any time. You owe me one for not telling your youngest brother that you didn’t even think of him when you asked me to go on a rescue mission to Hell.” Danny’s glare wasn’t hateful or even angry, just disappointed and disdainful.
Dean was still stunned, he closed his mouth then opened it again but no sound came out. He really hadn’t thought… hadn’t considered… fuck. Shit! Damn it!
He shook himself out of his thoughts and nodded again. He deserved whatever he got.
- -
Garth and Bobby wrapped up their conversation, and soon enough Danny was out of Singer Savage and headed back to Illinois.
They still had to deal with the angels’ war, and see what would happen with Adam, what he would choose.
His brothers were fine, they were safe for now, and they would get better soon.
Still, as he watched the back of the speeding truck get smaller and smaller, Dean was left feeling hollow.
- - -
The first bit of this chapter was directly taken from a transcription of "Appointment in Samarra", the episode where Death has Dean do his job for a day to teach him the lesson that murder is okay if done by someone better dressed than you! asdfghjklñ. I just added some descriptions.
There, Death asks him "which brother" to save from the Cage, since Dean tty forgot about lil Adam smh.
Let's just say that the setting (me, being the one to write this) demanded Danny to be Not Cool with that, so this is a little fix it. I did this for Adam and have no regrets. Youngest half siblings for the win!
I swear, in all these Only Friends discourse that has been raging since the finale dropped on Saturday, I wonder if anyone actually took a second to be like: this story is being told through the eyes of 20-21 year old college students. They are the mouthpiece through which this story is being narrated. Is it possible therefore that their age, their lack of experience, their slightly sheltered lives, might play a role in how they navigate their friendships, the world at large and how they react?
Like @jojotichakorn has started several times, and I agree a 100%; this story isn’t a morality lesson. Nobody is saying casual sex bad. You are evil if you’re non-monogamous. Blah blah blah. As a graysexual polyam person who just uses the term queer cuz it’s easier than me having a 30 mins convo with a stranger about my orientation and how everything intersects for me, this show was everything. Cuz PEOPLE ARE MESSY! People are messy and judgemental and annoying. Just because they’re queer doesn’t mean they WON’T be messy. I was especially a fucking shithead at 21. Hell, I was a virgin until I turned 22 (not quite as sanctimonious as Mew, thank SPIRIT!!). Who I am now at 33 is vastly different from who I was over a decade ago. I moved out at 22. Been living on my own for that time. The person I am today is a product of all I have seen and experienced. I lost the black and white lens through which I viewed the world, in that period of time.
And you know what? I do feel that these kids (cuz they are kids to me. I haven’t sat in a university class in almost 13 years 🤷🏾‍♀️), will grow, and learn and evolve. Boston I think will do fantastically well in New York. He will continue to come into his own. Will figure out what kind of relationships work best for him (both in regards to his friendships and his sexual and romantic—if he wants any—relationships), and he will thrive.
Mew will eventually get that stick out of his arse and get off his high horse. He will realize that people are messy, imperfect, and make mistakes, and that he too is flawed. And that is okay. That he doesn’t need to be burdened to replicate the perfect home life he had with his mothers. That hell, just because he fancies himself better than others, doesn’t mean that he isn’t as capable of the depraved things the human mind can conjure up 🤷🏾‍♀️.
Ray will probably battle with his addiction all his life. Will realize that battling addiction is a life-long process. Will lean on the support he has. Will probably learn to forgive his mum, and come to terms with her frailty as a human being, and what that meant with regards her suicide. He will also probably let himself admit that as much as he loved her, and wanted her to hold him and love him, he is justifiably angry at her that she did neither of those things, and then left him. He will probably confront his dad about the role he played, and didn’t play in all of this. He might decide to break up with Sand later. And they will still be good friends. Or Sand might be that ex he hasn’t spoken to in years, yet he still thinks of and smiles when he hears I Wanna Be Yours.
Same goes for Sand, and Top and Nick as well.
And who knows, at some point Cheum might realize that she can be quite the shitty friend. That she’s been a shitty friend. She might reach out to her now former friends, and honestly sincerely apologize. Or not. That’s another thing. Some people take forever to grow. And some don’t learn a lick from their experiences. And when time has passed and they looked back at all their burned bridges and try to reconnect, they are left with hands fluttering in the wind, and everyone they love out of reach 🤷🏾‍♀️.
But yeah. I don’t know about y’all. Maybe you were well adjusted uni students who were always right and knew the right words to say, and didn’t fuck up every other Saturday, and whose lives were peachy. But I was a dumbass, making dumbass choices, being a sanctimonious dumbass, and being an absolute menace. And that was how I watched the show. Knowing that this is a story of these kids, told to us by THESE kids. P’Jojo was just the conduit for their story. But it is ultimately THEIRS. I just watched it for them. Not for any moral lessons (this isn’t a parable or a fable. And I say this as someone who has been fascinated by mythology since I was 7), but to be entertained by the lives of these messy kids, crash-figuring their way to adulthood, and thanking the universe that my early 20s are way behind me, cuz fucking hell. That era of my life was some shit-show!
you’re so right though about your friend and how you treated her during that time. bc while dating isn’t a healthy context to do it in the way that people change is that they meet people with differing views to them and learn that they’re human too and they can respect (insert minority) as people rather than whatever they’ve been told.
not associating with people is a really good way to indicate to a third party that they’re safe around you but if they’ve already earned your trust (like your friend had earned yours) then it’s easy to see from their perspective to be like ‘I can see why they want to try change this person there’s no point trying to stop them’. and for those of us who’ve trusted taylor already it’s kinda the same, we don’t feel like she’s let us down but more she’s gonna do some questionable/arguably shitty things sometimes like any person but she’s still who she is and that isn’t perfect but imperfect is what we signed up for. like I get why people do feel hurt and betrayed and it’s not worth the investment to them, they deserve to be surrounded by people who will be safe for them to trust—but in the meantime sometimes our friends will go and have rebounds with bigots and they need some of their friends to still stick with them and prove that we’re not just there for an image thing but because we care about them as a person. both reactions are valid and can be helpful in different ways
this response is so late so forgive me, i lost this ask for a hot minute and was trying really hard to find it again 😭 (putting the rest under a cut because long)
but yes. i knew who my friend was, and i knew she wasn't dating this guy because she agreed with his shitty views/endorsed his actions, she was dating him because she was in a weird place where she needed to believe she could change him. and our other friends and i understood that once she inevitably woke up to the realization that she couldn't, she would ditch. would i have preferred that she never hung around him in the first place? yes. i hated that guy. but people are imperfect and sometimes will make flawed choices that don't align perfectly with their morals. that doesn't mean they deserve to be abandoned, especially when they've proven time and time again who they are at their core. obviously she did ditch him after only a few weeks, and it's water under the bridge now.
i'm not saying this exact logic applies to a celebrity, i'm just bringing up the fact that i think the majority of people wouldn't ditch their friend if they were in the same position i was in. and the only reason taylor's behavior was criticized to that level was because she was famous and had the entire world watching, when it probably would've just been a weird two weeks if she were a normie. so i don't really feel the need to constantly talk about how horrible it was because to me it's so "tale as old as time" and not at all indicative of her morals as a person
You guys sound very victim blame-y talking about that woman… It’s okay to not really care about her life and her struggles but it’s really not easy to just “leave”. Especially with the way she was raised, the way her husband treats her, the fact that the company is apparently under his name so who knows how much money she actually gets herself, the fact that they have children together. She’s clearly in a shitty situation that would be hard to leave and blaming it on her instead of the misogynistic husband who pushed her to marry him faster than she was ready to and who forced the lifestyle he wanted on her… No one is saying she has it worse than everyone else but c’mon… I also think it’s good that they wrote this article now with the whole “tradwife” trend, it shows that it’s not as perfect as they all paint it
Oh come on lol. No, it’s not victim blaming because I simply don’t think she’s a victim of anything other than her own shitty life choices. She’s a person with a lot of choices and options before her who made and continues to make certain choices and pick certain options. Yes, her upbringing led her to think this is the best set of choices and it probably wasn’t and isn’t but it’s also patronizing af to decide someone’s culture is “wrong” especially when the person who is participating in it had and has many ways to opt out of that culture and information regarding other cultures. For one, she lived independently in NYC away from that community. So she chose to marry this guy - yes he pressured her but she… still agreed? She wasn’t kidnapped or placed into an arranged marriage or anything like that. The company is in his name but she’s got her personal influencering brand right and he clearly is happy for her to do shit she decides to do like the Mrs World competition (which involved travel without him so?? She’s not being held against her will???) like idk man. I agree that it’s important to write this story and show that this is… not a great life… even for the people actively choosing it…. but I also don’t think we should be all “oh no this mean misogynistic man” when she’s clearly agreed to all of this stuff.
She also could go and get BC without him ever knowing tbh so popping out all the babies is also a choice she’s agreeing to? She knows about BC and she can access it and she could go and get something without ever talking to him or telling him about it because doctor/patient confidentiality tbh. There are ways to access BC and pay cash or even free BC if he’s exerting financial control or she’s worried he’ll see it on the insurance docs in some way.
Shitty decisions -> shitty outcomes. That’s not victim blaming. That’s saying human beings have choices and women are full blown human beings and if we make shitty choices (like become tradwives) there’s a good to great possibility that our lives will suck.
idk man I made/make a lot of really shitty choices and they often lead to questionable outcomes and that’s because I was making bad choices, not because I’m a victim. A victim mentality is not the right approach here imo. There are SO MANY WOMEN (and other marginalized people) in the world who ACTUALLY don’t have choices or only have so called choiceless choices available to them who actually deserve our support and sympathy and mental bandwidth and who are actually victims of their circumstances that I just… don’t find this that sad? Like fafo is what happened here.
still a bit sad ofc poor Ballerina Farm lady - sounds like her life is shitty. Because of the shitty choices she fucking made tho.
also fwiw if the reporter believed her to actually be in danger this would be dangerous af to publish in its current form so either that’s an irresponsible decision or the reporter feels the husband is shitty but not straight up abusive.
I am sure people are gonna attack me for this but it needs to be said.
NOTE: I am in no way, shape, or form trying to cancel Tommy Kinnard or Lou.
I like Tommy. He's a good character.
He HOWEVER is a very flawed character. A character who has yet to have any real reckoning for what he did. Helping the crew to save the ship doesn't mean we get to just forget he was racist and misogynistic.
You don't get to just be racist, misogynistic, and honestly even homophobic, come out later in life, and use that as free pass to get away with with you did. That's not on Tommy or Lou (though he really downplayed that to a point of ICK in that cameo imo), it's on the writers. I do acknowledge this is a fictional character.
Even more of a reason as to why IT'S OKAY TO ADMIT HE'S NOT PERFECT. I want characters to be truly human. To make mistakes. To learn from their mistakes. And to say, hey, that was really shitty and I'm sorry.
I am not okay with the show just writing off the discrimination he caused because some years have passed and he's now Buck's boyfriend.
Hurt people hurt people. Yes. That does NOT excuse the behavior. Only explains it.
Past Tommy was the epitome of male white privilege and never being held accountable. Like everyone else in that station. They quite literally fostered an environment of white supremacy and I don't feel like we talk about this enough.
Present Tommy is....? Who the fuck knows because the writers haven't really let us know? They haven't let us see any real growth besides being out and being okay with woman of color now..?
This feels all to similar to growing up in a predominantly white area where people try to act progressive and like they were never once racist in their lives so no one 'cancels' them.
To never acknowledge it and to write it off like it was nothing frankly pisses me off.
Tommy has the potential to be great representation for people who have truly educated themselves and become genuine good people by learning from their mistakes and the discrimination they caused.
There is nothing wrong with saying, hey, I messed up, I made choices that directly hurt you. I will educate myself moving forward and I will be better. All I want is acknowledgement that he knows what he did was wrong.
I say all of this a woman of color myself who very much has faced similar microaggressions (and major) like Hen has.
You don't ever forget what those people said or did. Whether they've grown or changed and become a better person. That shit sticks with you for life. Every. Single. One.
I wanna like Tommy so bad but I just...can't get past this and I refuse to.
You don't get a free pass because you were in the closet or because that was what the times were like or because everyone else was doing it. There's no excuse.
Sorry not sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️
It's 2024. We can own up to our mistakes and be okay.
I think Tommy is great for Buck. I just wish people would stop acting like he's a saint who has never done anything wrong because they're in a relationship. The relationship is a historical moment for television. I don't want them to ruin it by doing what most casually racist people do, and act like it never happened.
It's okay for someone to not be perfect. It's a fictional show, you'll be okay.
There are some people genuinely attacking other people online for holding any criticism against Tommy and it's giving very-no offense-Swiftie energy. You can like Taylor as an artist and acknowledge she made a whole ass documentary about wanting to be on the right side of history and then fails to speak up for any issues that didn't directly affect her or her image or her profits. It's white feminism.
I don't know if there's a word for white feminism like behavior for white queer characters...? But that is frankly what's happening and needs to stop because it's already gone too far.
***Please be kind in any replies or you will be blocked. I have no energy to deal with people who have the emotional capacity of an almond. <3
For the bingo
Well-written characters: Sonic, Eggman, Trevor, Hector, Rosaly, Dracula
Shit characters: Lenore and essentially the entire main cast of That Very Particular Game
bro.
Sonic here :P
Eggman:
Tumblr media
Proof that evil bastards without a single redeeming quality in their bones can still be compelling, fleshed out characters.
my good man is a jolly fellow with a passion for amusement parks and for defacing ancient ruins because his face deserves to be plastered through history. an icon <3 he's perfect <3 well, except for how in many games he was pushed to the side with disappointing results. but it's okay. it's not his fault <3 he did nothing wrong <3
Trevor:
Tumblr media
Trevor my good friend Trevor he's the Sonic of Castlevania and that makes him an instant 10/10 🥰
Love how he's both shaped like a friend, happy to accept all sorts of people as his companions, and also a terrifying menace that will kill you first and ask questions second. I think this post encapsulates why he's so good <3
I am a bit salty that he was wasted in CoD, though. Granted, he gave us some intense sessions of raw gay sex with Hector and Isaac, but you know, he could have done more.
Hector:
Tumblr media
i like him a normal amount and i am very normal about him and i totally don't project onto his status as unwilling golden child pushed to become something he isn't until he has the strength to free himself to face a world that hates him because freedom is more dignified than being sheltered.
Rosaly:
Tumblr media
the girl of all time 🥺 she's so 🥺 and so 🥰 and also so 💖 and even ✨
god the way CoD treated her is criminal. I'm so glad Kojima and Sasakura gave her more love and turned her into such a cute and interesting character, even if she is fairly simple and straightfoward - she is not simply the kind caretaker to Hector's brooding boy, she is too kind to the point that it's treated like a flaw. but she don't care. she's stubborn and idealistic and exactly what makes her so good for hector "if you take a snake in you'll get bitten" castlevania.
She will love you to death. You have no choice in the matter. Haha get absolutely cherished idiot <3
Dracula:
Tumblr media
he's so stupid and petty and a selfish asshole bastard and maybe a bit of a perv and he should suffer more for my entertainment
i love him <3
I like that, compared to Eggman, he does have potentially redeeming qualities: he loves. He loves too much, even. And that is precisely what makes him such a piece of shit :)
anyway he did everything wrong. that is the point.
Lenore:
Tumblr media
"Deserved a happier ending"? Sure. Hector should have set her on fire. That would have made me happy <3
I hate her so much. I hate that I can see the glimpses of a good villain buried underneath the revolting rape apology. I wish I could steal Hector's hammer, beat her until she's nothing but mush, and then recompose her to turn her into a well written character, and not four bad characters stitched together.
But also, Lenore has no reason to exist. The story could have progressed just fine if it was Carmilla trying to break Hector's spirit - and maybe show that he's stronger than she had thought. Lenore was only introduced for the sake of pushing S3's shitty r/im14andthisisdeep "trust is for dumbasses, and dumbasses deserve to be punished" message. She singlehandedly ruined Hector's character beyond redemption, and she herself was written by Ellis with a hand down his pants, which means that in S3 she's basically a walking kink and by S4 it's too late to woobiefy her. I need to rescue her concept (a vampire torn between her desire to pretend to be human and the thirst for power over people that comes with her nature) so badly because it's worth exploring, but the show only makes me want to turn myself into the sun and burn for eternity.
curious about your doto thoughts. i only played it once and reasonably enjoyed it (if anything, i had more issues w dh2) so im interested to read about your experience
sure thing!
first off i want to be absolutely clear that this rant is 100% petty. doto didn't, like, burn down my crops or (to my knowledge) influence any kind of shitty trend or real world harm. i don't have issues with gameplay, art etc which are ultimately bigger draws in the series. and the story was straightforward and mostly internally consistent, so ignoring the prior games, even that could be worse. but despite arkane claiming it worked as a standalone, much of the narrative's weight DOES rely on previous games. so i think it is fair to measure it up against previously established aspects of the series, and find it wanting.
when i saw promo material i thought the concept was... flawed. to be exact, i mean the idea of a) daud and billie going to b) kill the outsider because c) he's responsible for the awful shit in the world. any one or two of those points wouldn't have given me pause, but all three together seemed pretty contradictory to what we knew about the setting and the characters.
the outsider isn't responsible for the awful shit in the world. he just isn't. i do not think the previous games could possibly have emphasised this more. his direct actions are giving a handful of people magic powers and some hints, but what those are and how they are used (IF they are used) are shown to be completely reflective of the individuals both in story and gameplay. the average person in the empire is not affected by the existence of the marked at all. there is no evil magocracy. the closest thing, delilah's reign, is a takeover of the entrenched power structure and it can be defeated with the protagonist's own outsider-given abilities.
gangs, corruption, police states, religious control, wealth inequality, spreading of disease - these are the real issues that the citizens of dunwall and karnaca face daily, and they are completely independent of the outsider. time and time again we see that casting him as the source of society's ills is a hollow excuse for the perpetrators; it's exactly what the abbey does as it kidnaps children and murders "heretics". as a player, why would i think about killing the outsider when there are so many rotten institutions right there? it's even worse when dh2 portrays him as a historical murder victim himself, who seems to prefer it when people don't abuse their powers, even if he cynically expects they will.
and no one should know more about human choice than daud, post his dlcs. like, his entire character arc was realising that whatever the outsider gave him, he alone was responsible for his actions, so he must bear the consequences. it all comes down to his canonical low-chaos speech in dh1, after seeing corvo deliberately NOT slaughter his way through life: "you took a path i could have followed, but did not... you choose mercy. extraordinary." we are given every reason to believe his desire to retire peacefully is earnest and something he follows through on. the story's premise would be cheapened if he didn't.
as i see it, the key theme of dh1, its dlcs and dh2 is that, while privilege may blind and power may corrupt, there is always the choice to do better, and it is often the harder choice. and look, i think the doto writers may have been trying to expand on that. what about the root causes of privilege and power? who draws the lines? who can best try to take the system down, and what happens when they do? fair questions! but doto looks for the answers in all the wrong places, and so is at odds with the other games instead of in conversation with them.
it's kind of perfect that doto is so resolute in downplaying agency, really. if you're going to ignore the details of the stories you're building on, why not go the whole hog and make your message completely antithetical to theirs.
billie is the player character, but she is not in charge. she pretty much just goes along with whatever daud says, though she's not his young protegee anymore, and she had plenty of autonomy back when she was. there's so much focus on what daud's done and his mission and his angst about how he turned her into a killer and she's the one who has to carry out this job because he's dying etc. when they first reunite he asserts that he knew she'd come find him. because her life is supposed to revolve around him, i guess? ugh. a sprinkle of sentimentality is fine and even heartwarming, like the writers intended it to be, but to have it as The Story in this way just gives the impression that she's little more than an extension of him.
sure, you CAN technically question daud's idea of the outsider's culpability at the end, but 1) daud's dead and 2) the conversation goes straight back to whether the outsider should die for what it's asserted he's done. anyway, one argument in favour of saving him is "this wasn't his choice, he never asked for this power" lmao. it's just like how billie's void powers are forced on her (in an awfully uncharacteristic fashion by the outsider, i might add) and we're not supposed to worry too much about any carnage she causes with them.
the chaos system was one of the most interesting ways to deal with the violence = bad problem in violent video games. in doing away with it, doto pays lip service to the idea by having daud and billie wallow in guilt about their pasts, but there are no external consequences that might prompt actual introspection and a change in behaviour for them and the player. this means if you slaughter entire buildings of people, it's no biggie, nothing changes, never mind the fact that the story is trying to pose some ethical questions about murder. it also means daud is extremely annoying the whole way through. but hey - it's totally compatible with the theme that choices don't matter that much.
yet for something that's trying to be so different from its predecessors, i do think that doto relies a little heavily on nostalgia. if you aren't attached to the characters at the start, i doubt the game comes close to the emotional peaks it does otherwise. the narrated splashes aren't gonna do it alone - imagine if dh1's prologue didn't let you play with emily and simply told us that corvo looked after the empress' daughter - and there's not much character development throughout. i was definitely moved at times, i'm not going to pretend i wasn't! but often i felt it was despite the execution, not because of it.
also, "black-eyed bastard" was said way too much.
another issue was that i felt a lot of the script was written and delivered in a manner that wants to make you go "hmm, how thought-provoking", but the questions raised are never explored or answered meaningfully. even the ending is a stubbornly vague "i don't know..." i got a little sad when i noticed just how often potentially meaty bits of dialogue were redirected. it made those moments come across as insincere and non-committal even if they sounded good on their own. as an example, mid-game billie asks "is the outsider to blame for what we did? does corruption come from the void or from our own hearts?" then keeps talking about her plans to kill him. if she'd instead reflected on who was responsible for her current actions, even if there was no firm conclusion, i could believe that the story was trying to have a genuine discussion about the blame game that we could learn something from. but it's not that deep :(
overall i just feel like doto tried to take Cool parts of dishonored without always considering all the details that made them Good. a gruff assassin who has beef with god is a cool character, but he's a good character because of the specific arc he went through, and the version that shows up in doto is even less self aware than the one at the start of dh1; billie is cool because of her badass checkered past, but she is complex because her desire to be part of something bigger often conflicts with her independence and businesslike practicality, characteristics that doto doesn't really touch on; the outsider is cool as the powerful inhabitant of a supernatural dimension, but it's the distance from his devilish portrayal in the empire that makes him unique and interesting.
on a meta level, i've never seen anyone indicate a dislike of the outsider as a character, and to me the implications of his existence in the void is the most iconic part of the worldbuilding. killing OR removing him means arkane gives up the easiest, most sensible way to make a future dh game feel like Dishonored. it might never happen, but why close that particular door?* there was lots of speculation that the game was tying up the series for the forseeable future, which was probably true, but simply closing off the kaldwin era would have been enough for that. plus a smaller scope would also have been better for a small game. cosmic upheaval really deserves more gravity than doto was able to give.
what alternatives do i think might have worked? well, going back to the three points i mentioned earlier:
not centred on daud and billie, aim is still to kill the outsider who is believed to be responsible for everything - maybe a particularly zealous young overseer tries to actually do something about the outsider
centred on daud and billie, aim is not to kill the outsider, who is believed to be responsible for everything - maybe they can bring about the downfall of the abbey for good
centred on daud and billie, aim is to kill the outsider, who is not believed to be responsible for everything - maybe they have to reluctantly mercy kill the outsider for some void-related reason, or save him from someone else trying to assassinate him.
could work with any concept (i.e. i totally thought this would happen) - either billie or daud replaces the outsider in the void.
i did have issues with dh2 as well, and honestly they laid the groundwork for much of what i didn't like about doto. while i think the series always has fantastic incidental writing (whatever the collective word is for audiographs, journals etc.) the main stories have never been masterpieces, and dh2's attempt to lean more into character study wasn't super successful imo. to make some characters more sympathetic they sanded off some awesome unpleasant edges - why sokolov of all people got sad-dadified i'm still puzzled by. there's a lot more exposition. i preferred the more detached outsider from dh1. some references to dh1 and the dlcs were too fanservicey for my taste. but i think the biggest hint of things to come was the time travel mechanic - the focus was clearly "this will be really cool to play" and not "this is going to open a huge can of worms on the narrative level which we should try to address thoughtfully", the same way priorities probably were when it came to doto's "kill a god" setup. i get it, they're video games, not books. but this is how you get the insanity that IS the dishonored books. lol.
* i'm not counting deathloop as a dh game, and i haven't played it, but i read that the connections to the dh universe are more than just a couple of easter eggs. imo that does neither any favours - the dh timeline gets boxed in, and it makes deathloop look like its developers don't have faith in it as a standalone ip.
finished yangtze river dolphin episode from extraordinary attorney woo and i think im near tears. i love this episode so much. a huge chunk of my media experience keeps telling me to be on edge, telling me that things are going to get dirty and dramatic and people are going to get antagonised for the sake of a good show, but it never goes there. the witness (? is that what you call them for civil cases?) temporarily snapping in court because everyone from the company is tired about the lawsuit, but after the court hearing ends, the plaintiffs end up hugging her and reassuring her that "it's okay, people have their own opinions, you're not a bad person, this is just how circumstances are and i wouldn't fault you for not picking the ‘moral high road’ for the sake of your own stability and comfort. i would've made the same decision in your shoes. these things shouldn't be blamed on you, but the way our patriarchal society has been set up even before we were born that forces us to choose between these two things. we will never fault you for not making the impossible perfect choice. no matter what happens in the end, we will never fault you for it."
and i'm just like. crying man. it's easy in shows involving law to easily spin a tale to villainise characters the main characters are disagreeing with, but like... this show goes beyond that and reveals something very simple and true, which is that humans are flawed, which means they can make flawed decisions, but that is not always a failure of morality or conscience.
and my god the critique of the mir life company was so good too. even when i thought i'd hate the hr guy, it turns out he's also just another cog in the machine they'd throw out. he's also been fed the same lies and sweet promises the others were, and i couldn't feel that familiar sense of "vindication!!!" i felt when villains got what they deserved. because it reminded me, once again, that he's not a villain; he's just another guy crushed under the weight of his imperfect decisions, becoming the scapegoat for all the targeted animosity when in reality he was discarded just as easily. it felt like his appearance was deliberately put so we'd have someone's face to hate, to throw the eggs on, but in reality the shitty choices are always made from people higher up than him, invisible and faceless but very much present in influencing the quality of thousands of people's livelihoods.
god. what a good show. between young-woo and su-yeon's friendship, i'm also loving the women solidarity in this episode. i love it so much. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON RYU JAE-SOOK AND HER PHILOSOPHY ABOUT BEING AN ATTORNEY AND HER POEM SHE READ ON THE ROOFTOP. I'LL BURST INTO TEARS IF I REMEMBER IT
to be honest seeing lewis with jared leto gave me the ick and i feel sad for feeling like that now :( everyone seems to not care but i don't know if i can do the same, also i saw that she was pretty young so i don't know what to say...i feel guilty for feeling bad about the situation...
i don’t think you need to feel guilty at all ❤️ it’s absolutely valid to feel sad or disappointed because maybe it made you realize that lewis is not who you thought he was or not living up to everything we’ve projected onto him as fans. i’m sending you a big hug! :)
it’s never a good idea to idolize someone blindly or make excuses for them when they fck up. at the same time, idk that it’s always just black and white either. lewis is a human being, he will do good and bad and contradictory things and never be perfect. so (despite my unhinged parasocial behavior about him on here) i try to be reasonable in how i view the lewis hamilton that exists out in the real world. is he a Bad person that needs to be cancelled immediately? imo no. should i as a fan sometimes acknowledge shitty choices and behaviors of his? yes. most importantly to myself. because it means that “revelations” like today don’t come as total shock.
